The Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island is a world in itself with such an array of attractions - beaches, shops, water park, golf course and casino - that all cruise lines offer at least one tour to fully enjoy this iconic site of The Bahamas.

Aquaventure Water Park Day Pass

Until a few years ago, all cruise lines used to offer a basic shore excursion to the resort entitled Discover Atlantis Tour. This tour doesn't exist anymore. Instead, most cruise lines now offer the 'Atlantis Aquaventure Day Pass'. This consists of a 5-hour pass which includes access to Aquaventure Water Park, the beautiful beaches and pool of Atlantis, lunch, and transportation to and from the resort.

The Aquaventure Water Park is Atlantis resort massive 141-acre waterscape with pools, water coasters, body slides, rivers and more than 50,000 sea creatures where you will have a one-of-a-kind exciting day. For more information check the Atlantis Official Website .

The Aquaventure Tour is also offered in combination with two one-of-a-kind dolphin experiences - the shallow water interaction and the swimming with dolphins in a deep cay. You can choose to just enjoy any of the Dolphin Interactions or have this combined with the rest of the day at the beach. Celebrity, Norwegian and Royal Caribbean also offer a Sea Lion Interaction.

Shorex Combos

Disney Cruises is the only cruise line that offers the Aquaventure shore excursion combined with other experiences such as kayaking, snorkeling, or paddleboarding with Dolphins. Disney Cruises also offers a 6.5 to 7 Hour experience at the Ocean Club Golf Course for $599.00 including Green fees, clubs, golf cart and shoe rentals but not including beverages and meals.

Other excursions to Atlantis resort

Disney is the only cruise line that keeps the Discover Atlantis Tour and Beach Day cruise excursion - a 6-hour tour priced at $98.00 (ages 10, and up), and $83.00 (ages 4 to 9). The Shore Excursions Group offers a smiliar but shorter tour entitled Discover Nassau Town and Atlantis. This tour by Shore Excursions Group is just 2 Hours and 30 Minutes long, costing $57.00.

You will not have to look for transportation to Atlantis, negotiate prices with taxi drivers, and when you will be taken back to the ship on time. But you may want to look into other ways of exploring Atlantis.

Online Services

There is the possibility to book online with the many services that offer shore excursions to Atlantis. Prices vary and it is advisable to check what is offered on each tour.

The following online services are well-established companies that guarantee the returning of cruise passengers in good time prior to the departure of the ship. Direct Booking

Before deciding which is the best excursion for you and your cruising companions, whether it is better to book onboard or with an online service, you may also want to check directly with Atlantis.

Cruise travelers that wish to book a day tour directly with Atlantis will find that the resort will request proof that your sailing on a specific cruise line. Prices may, in some cases, be slightly lower but do not include transportation to Atlantis, located in Paradise Island. Therefore, the savings (if any) may be minimal. But you will be in charge of your own time. Atlantis Day Booking Web Page

How to get to Atlantis

Paradise Island (where Atlantis is located) is connected to Nassau by two bridges but is a bit too far to walk from the cruise terminal. There are two ways of getting to Atlantis on your own. Either by taxi - sharing a large van will cost around $10,00 per person (each way) - or with a ferry boat.

Next to the cruise terminal, on the right side, on Woodes Roger Walk, you will find a Ferry Boat (costs around $8.00 USD return). The ferry will take you on a short cruise through the harbor ending at a dock under the main bridge on Paradise Island. From here you are within walking distance to Atlantis.

What's nearby

If you decide to explore Atlantis on your own, and in particular if you go on the Ferry Boat you may like to walk around and check a few other places on Paradise Island.

The Bahamcraft Center is great for local gifts and souvenirs. A couple of popular restaurants - the Green Parrot Bar and the super famous Margaritaville Bahamas - are ideal for a quick bite or lunch before returning to the cruise ship.

Best shore excursions for Bahamas cruises

Melinda Crow

From lazy lounging on the beach to action-packed water adventures, cruise ship shore excursions in the Bahamas are packed with fun in the sun and sea.

Whether you're looking to get wet, get chill or get stuff, you'll find a way to do it on a shore excursion here. You can swim with pigs and dive with sharks. You can cruise the islands on ATVs or skim across the water on a wide array of vessels. Tours often include time to shop the straw markets, and many also include traditional Bahamian lunches, snacks and/or beverages.

The list of Bahamas tours and activities includes options to suit almost everyone. We sorted through the choices to find you the best Bahamas shore excursions. Ready? Let's dive in.

Prices for the same tours can vary across cruise lines and third-party sellers, so tours are listed below by price ranges, using the following shorthand (per adult):

$= $0-50. $$= $51-99. $$$= $100-199. $$$$=$200-499.

Best Nassau, Bahamas shore excursions

atlantis bahamas cruise excursions royal caribbean

Island food and culinary tour

3-3.5 hours, easy, $$.

Bahamas food and beverage excursions are an ideal way to immerse yourself in the culture of the islands. You'll feast on island specialties and favorites such as conch fritters or salad, rock lobster, traditional cornbread-like Johnny cakes and tropical punches laced with rum. Most cruise lines offer food tours that stop at multiple local eateries. There may be walking involved, so be sure to read your cruise line's description.

Blue Lagoon beach break

Varies, easy to moderate, $$-$$$.

Some of the best excursions in Nassau are to Blue Lagoon Island, a privately owned island with a beach, food, water sports and other activities. You can choose the standard beach break option with lunch, beach games and use of water noodles and tubes. Or you can upgrade to a tour that includes snorkeling or swimming with stingrays, dolphins, sharks and even sea lions. Additional activities can be purchased upon arrival on the island.

Scuba diving with sharks

4.5 hours, moderate, $$$-$$$$.

If you are a certified scuba diver and have ever considered diving with sharks, this is your excursion. The shark dives involve one reef dive, followed by a second dive with everyone kneeling in the sand on the bottom as the shark feeder doles out his goodies. You've heard the term "sharknado?" It's a real thing and being in one is an adrenaline rush you'll never forget.

I should warn the shark-timid among you that because Caribbean reef sharks are plentiful in the waters surrounding Nassau and because dive shops have been doing baited shark dives here for years, you may encounter sharks on any dive in Nassau, though at a bit more distance than during the shark feeds. In fact, I've never not seen a shark while diving here.

Paradise Island and Aquaventure Oasis Waterpark

All day, moderate, $$$$.

Excursions that include access to Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas seem to no longer mention the name of the mega-resort that made Paradise Island famous. If you've always wanted to go, excursions labeled Aquaventure are your ticket.

The day pass includes access to miles of beaches, the on-site casino, and the Aquaventure water park featuring 141 acres of slides, swimming areas, river rides, and wave areas. The pass also allows you to dine in the resort's eateries, explore a myriad of shops or even add an aquatic animal experience like a dolphin swim.

You can purchase Atlantis day passes independently, but the advantage of booking your visit as an excursion is that transportation will be included.

Best shore excursions in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island

atlantis bahamas cruise excursions royal caribbean

Freeport island tour, beach and shopping

4 hours, easy, $.

Shore excursions that bundle a tour with a beach break and shopping are always a good choice in the Bahamas. You get to see a bit of the island, learn its history, shop for souvenirs and get in some coveted beach time, all with easy transportation. This kind of tour is especially useful if you've never been to Grand Bahama Island. For a small amount of money, you get to scope the place out for your adventures on your next Bahamas cruise.

Pirate's Cove beach, zipline and waterpark

4 hours, moderate, $$$.

If zip lining is your thing, this is a good place to get your fix. The beachside zip line has options for starting at 50 feet up or 30 feet, making it ideal for newbies wanting to try the experience. Since this excursion also includes time at the beach and floating water park, consider it a deal.

Glass bottom boat shark experience

3 hours, easy, $$$.

Want to see Caribbean reef sharks without putting your toes in the water? This excursion takes you on a glass-bottom boat ride to waters where Caribbean reef sharks have been fed. The boat has ample deck space for sunning when you aren't watching the action below the boat. It's a fun way to spend a day out on the water with an opportunity to see these predators and other colorful tropical fish without fear. Typical Bahamian refreshments round out the fun.

Blue hole snorkeling

5 hours, moderate, $$$.

My rule of thumb is to snorkel at every opportunity while in the Bahamas. It's a fun and easy way to take a peek beneath the waves at the colorful sea life found in these waters. When you book a snorkeling excursion in the Bahamas, gear is provided, including snorkeling vests to keep you afloat.

For the best Bahamas snorkeling, choose a blue hole snorkeling excursion. Blue holes are found throughout the Bahamas and are essentially open-topped caverns, so it's like swimming in a fishbowl. Some are landlocked, where they may be filled with either fresh or salt water, and inhabited by a wide range of aquatic life, including crabs, lobsters, octopus and fish. Others are offshore, below the surface of the ocean, creating a mini reef environment to explore.

This excursion involves a lengthy ride, but it's definitely worth it.

Swim with the pigs

1.5 hours, easy, $$$.

Swimming pigs are kind of a big deal in the Bahamas. Animal lovers can enjoy time in shallow water watching (and even feeding) these silly pigs. Most of the cruise line private islands also offer pig swims, but the one in Freeport does not involve a boat ride, which may make it more appealing to some. You'll also get time to hang out on Crystal Beach and buy lunch.

Best Bahamas shore excursions from cruise line private islands

atlantis bahamas cruise excursions royal caribbean

Snorkeling from shore or by boat

Varies, moderate, $-$$.

Cruise ship private islands make snorkeling easy. Most of the islands will offer snorkeling gear for rent, and you can snorkel right from the beach. (If you, like me, never miss an opportunity to put your face in the water, consider buying your own snorkel gear for future sailings.) Optional boat excursions to primo snorkeling spots are also possible from some islands.

1-1.5 hours, moderate, $-$$.

Kayaking from the cruise line private islands gives you a new perspective of these fun playgrounds. Tours are led by experienced guides who can point out sea life in shallow water while leading you along the shore of the tropical paradise. Beginners are welcome and life jackets are provided.

Stingray City Bahamas

1.5 hours, easy, $$.

While the Stingray City experience has been popular in Grand Cayman for years, it's relatively new to the Bahamas. Stingray City Bahamas is located among the Berry Islands, home to Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay and Norwegian's Great Stirrup Cay. You'll be taken on a short speedboat ride to a shallow sandy spot in a location where stingrays congregate. Your guide will provide fish to feed the rays, which swoop in and suck the fish from your hand. It's a fun outing if you haven't done it before and it doesn't take away too much of your beach time on the island.

Horseback riding by land and sea

1.25 hours, moderate, $$$.

Carnival offers a horseback riding tour from Half Moon Cay that includes a brief venture into the sea with your horse. The minimum age is 10. As the mother of a horse-loving daughter, I can tell you that riding in the ocean was one of her favorite cruise memories ever. No riding experience is required, but you must be able to follow directions and pay attention to your guide for your own safety as well as that of the horses and other riders. One other thing to know: There will be poo, both on land and in the water.

Bottom line

Bahamas shore excursions typically focus on activity in the water, but if shopping, food tours or sightseeing are more your thing, you'll find those options as well. The Bahamas is made up of a culturally rich collection of islands that have a reputation for welcoming visitors with arms wide open. From simple beach break excursions to full-day tours, you can easily find something that floats your boat in the Bahamas.

Plan A Vacation

Plan A Vacation

atlantis bahamas cruise excursions royal caribbean

If you are planning or have been on a cruise, then you are probably aware that one of the major stops for many Caribbean cruises is Nassau in the Bahamas. We were fortunate enough to go on another cruise that stopped in the Bahamas on our recent trip, and one thing I overheard was that there isn’t a whole lot to do in Nassau for kids. I might have agreed with that sentiment prior to this trip, but one surefire thing to do that kids will enjoy is visiting Atlantis.

You may have heard about Atlantis in the past but you may not entirely be sure what there is to do there. For those who are visiting as part of a day trip on a cruise, the biggest attraction is the Aquaventure Water Park. According to Atlantis’ website, the water park is spread out over 141 acres, much of which is lined with beaches. The park has a number of water slides as well as a “rapids river”, which is a combination of a lazy and not-so-lazy river.

Getting there from the cruise port is pretty straightforward. There are a number of taxis waiting just outside of the gate after you leave the port. We didn’t have any issues whatsoever with either of our taxi trips, and if you use one of the services that combine passengers from multiple cruise ships the price is only $5 per person each way. We liked that there were about 8 – 10 passengers with us each way, as it made us feel just a little bit safer in a foreign country. If you do feel like you want an additional amount of security you might check out Cheryl’s Taxi Service. We saw that they were highly recommended and had excellent reviews from various sites. I felt like the taxis waiting at the gate were absolutely sufficient, and I think there was an extra element of ease with their operation. We didn’t have to meet up or stay in contact with a particular service. The distance to Atlantis is approximately 2 miles from the port if you feel up to a hike. I would definitely NOT recommend this as the day trip is already short and there would be the least amount of safety with this route. Doing research on how to get there before you leave for your cruise is recommended. There is of course the option of going as a port adventure with your cruise, which will make the travel portion a whole lot easier, but it will also cost an additional amount per person and may restrict your time at the destination.

There was a little bit of a line waiting to purchase tickets to get into Atlantis. If you aren’t going as part of a port adventure with your cruise, buying tickets ahead of time would be recommended so you can skip this line. You can purchase tickets directly on their website so that there are no additional fees tacked onto the tickets by third parties. The website was a little confusing as to where to book the Aquaventure Day experience. It is currently located under Experience > Aquaventure and then scroll down to Aquaventure Day Pass Booking.

Once we got inside the resort there was a little bit of a walk to get to Aquaventure. There were people that helped guide us to the water park. There were also lockers available at Aquaventure for us to keep our belongings in, and we didn’t have any issue purchasing or securing these.

The water park itself is large so finding our way around was a slight learning curve. We finally locked down a beach chair that was between the Mayan Pyramid slides, the near-Pandora looking slides and the Rapids River. This made it easier for everyone to find each other at a somewhat central location.

I think the favorite activity among our family was definitely the Rapids River. It had a mix of calm, slow moving water and spots where you would go down rapids. The rapids weren’t too much for anyone in our group, and I would think that ages 8 and up would be great at a minimum. We also enjoyed the water slides but didn’t make it to the most challenging ones. There was also an awesome water slide among the Mayan slides that ended by going past a bunch of sea life through a clear tube.

A multitude of lunch options were available at the park itself, including grilled burgers, jerk chicken and adult beverages too. There were also restaurants inside the resort such as a pizzeria and mediterranean cuisine. If you are jonesing for Starbucks you can get that here as well.

Lastly, we did walk through a casino as we made our way in and out of the resort. We did not stay to play any of the games, but it was a large casino with slot machines, cards, roulette and the works. This part is definitely not for kids but if any adults are looking for a little gambling time on your cruise, this certainly fits the bill.

All in all it was a great day. We got to see parts of Nassau on the way to and from the resort and cruise port, and our family had a really enjoyable day. It is absolutely a worthwhile visit and one that can either be done as a port adventure through the cruise activities or on your own.

3 Thoughts on “Tips for Visiting Atlantis in Nassau (from a Cruise)”

This was helpful, can we walk?

I wouldn’t recommend walking from the boat to Atlantis as it would take up a good part of your day. It is possible to do however.

Also thank you for the compliment 🙂

  • Photography and Memorabilia: Capturing memories of your day at Atlantis is a wonderful way to remember your experience. However, professional photography services or purchasing commemorative items such as photos, photo books, or keychains can carry an additional cost.
  • Transportation: If you’re staying at a hotel or renting a car, you may need to factor in the cost of transportation to and from the port or the resort. Some packages include transportation, but if it’s not included, consider the cost of taxis, shuttles, or other transportation options.

It’s essential to plan and budget for these additional expenses to ensure you can fully enjoy your day at Atlantis without any financial surprises. By accounting for these costs, you can make the most of your time at the resort and indulge in all the experiences that interest you.

Remember, the specific expenses may vary depending on your preferences, the package you choose, and any current promotions. Checking with Royal Caribbean or your travel agent for the most up-to-date information will help you plan your budget effectively and enjoy a stress-free excursion at Atlantis.

Tips for Saving Money on the Atlantis Shore Excursion

While the Atlantis Shore Excursion is undoubtedly an incredible experience, it’s always great to find ways to save some money without compromising on the enjoyment of your day at the resort. Here are some tips to help you save money on the Atlantis Shore Excursion:

  • Book in Advance: By booking your Atlantis Shore Excursion well in advance, you may be able to take advantage of early booking discounts or promotional offers. Keep an eye out for specials or packages that can help you save on the overall cost of the excursion.
  • Look for Package Deals: Check if there are any package deals that include the Atlantis Shore Excursion as part of your overall cruise package. Sometimes, combining multiple excursions or activities can result in cost savings compared to booking them separately.
  • Consider Non-Peak Time: Traveling during non-peak times or shoulder seasons can often lead to lower prices. If your schedule allows, consider visiting Atlantis during less busy times to potentially take advantage of reduced rates.
  • Opt for a Partial Day Pass: If you’re primarily interested in experiencing a specific attraction or part of the resort, consider choosing a partial day pass rather than a full-day pass. This can be a more budget-friendly option if you don’t require access to all areas of Atlantis.
  • Pack Your Own Snacks and Drinks: Bringing your own snacks and drinks can help save money on dining expenses at the resort. Pack some light snacks and a reusable water bottle to keep yourself fueled throughout the day.
  • Research Local Dining Options: While dining at Atlantis can be a fantastic experience, it can also be pricey. Consider venturing outside the resort to explore local dining options that may offer more affordable meals without compromising on taste or quality.
  • Take Advantage of Free Activities: Atlantis offers various free activities and attractions that you can enjoy without spending any extra money. Take advantage of these opportunities, such as exploring the marine habitats or lounging on the public beaches.
  • Share Expenses with a Group: If you’re traveling with a group or other families, consider sharing the expenses for certain items such as transportation or meals. This can help reduce the overall cost per person and make the excursion more affordable for everyone.
  • Check for Discounts: Keep an eye out for any special discounts or promotions that may be available for the Atlantis Shore Excursion. This could include deals for loyalty program members, credit card holders, or certain demographic groups.

By implementing these money-saving tips, you can maximize your enjoyment of the Atlantis Shore Excursion without breaking the bank. With a little planning and research, you can ensure a memorable experience at Atlantis while staying within your budget.

The Royal Caribbean Shore Excursion to Atlantis is a fantastic opportunity to explore and experience the wonders of this iconic resort in the Bahamas. With its stunning beaches, thrilling water slides, mesmerizing marine habitats, and world-class amenities, Atlantis offers something for everyone.

Shore Excursion: Day Trip to Atlantis in Nassau, Bahamas

Posted By: LesliPeterson

High on our list of priorities during our Carnival Breeze Caribbean cruise in March was a day trip to Atlantis during our port of call in Nassau, Bahamas . Ever since watching a Travel Channel episode about the Paradise Island resort — with its massive Aquaventure waterpark and marine habitats and lagoons (aka an outdoor aquarium that’s so much more than “just” an aquarium) — my children have wanted to check it out. Me too; I’ve long been curious about the tropical mega resort.

Atlantis Resort Paradise Lagoon

You definitely need a paper map, or need to refer to signage often, when maneuvering around the property on a day visit.

Upon hearing that the resort had 4,000 hotel rooms, my son said, “Whoa. Does it have its own zip code?” (Answer: It likely would if the Bahamas used zip codes.)

We set up shop on a group of lounge chairs in Aquaventure water park — 141 acres of pools, kiddie splash areas, water slides, raft rides and lazy rivers.

Surprisingly, even during busy spring break when the entire resort was booked solid, we have no trouble finding a place to stake our claim and store our stuff while we played in the water park.

And play we did! By far, the most entertainment we found was in The Current, a river journey that is nothing but “lazy.” It has four-foot rolling waves and rapids that push you in your innertube along the mile-long “course.”

You can shoot off from The Current into The Power Tower, with its adrenaline-charged slides (body slides or inner tube rides) or just choose to go around and around on The Current — which is what my son and I did for at least an hour.

My daughter and husband braved the line at The Mayan Temple so they could ride a body slide steeply through the shark lagoon!

Lunch was fast food – burgers, chicken nuggets, pizza, salad, wraps – at one of the many take-out stand on the property.

Of course, you can also opt for a more civilized meal at one of the sit-down restaurants, too: there are a total of 21 restaurants and 19 bars/lounges on the property!

My son and I took some time to explore The Dig , which recreates the “Lost City of Atlantis” with mythical artifacts and a bevy of marine life.

Various lagoons are filled with sharks, stingrays, sea turtles and more; Atlantis his home to more than 50,000 marine animals.

To my despair, we actually didn’t spend any time on the gorgeous beaches of Atlantis. The white sand and turquoise water combine to make a beautiful setting for rest and relaxation — or playing in the gentle waves.

Atlantis beach

Serene beach scene at Atlantis.

I, did, however take some time to tour AKA/Atlantis Kids Adventure for ages 3 to 12, as well as CRUSH , the interactive, tech-centric spot for tweens and teens to hang out.

(This tour isn’t included in a regular cruise day trip/shore excursion to Atlantis; I’d arranged to visit these sections of the resort for reporting purposes.)

AKA Atlantis

CRUSH Atlantis

Multiple gaming screens at CRUSH tween/teen nightclub.

The bottom line: my children would love to return to Atlantis for an overnight stay not only to have a ball hanging out in the video-filled, nightclub-like CRUSH; tweens (9 to 13) have access to the area in the late afternoon, while it’s turned over to the teens (13 to 17) in the evenings.

Atlantis Aquaventure

I’d hate to dissuade anyone from visiting Atlantis on a cruise shore excursion, because the Aquaventure waterpark alone is a ton of fun; combined with the excellent marine habitat and pretty beaches, Atlantis is a lovely place to spend the day during a port of call, for sure.

However, it’s not a cheap shore excursion. From the Carnival Breeze , a full day at Atlantis Aquaventure with lunch, transportation and access to the beach and marine habitat, costs per adult, and per child. (Access to just the beach and the marine habitat, no Aquaventure, is free.)

To be frank, if I hadn’t received discounted admission for our day trip to Atlantis, I’m not sure I would have coughed up that kind of money just for a 7-hour visit. I’d sooner save my pennies and plan for a multi-night vacation at Atlantis to fully enjoy everything the resort has to offer.

I received discounted admission to Atlantis for our day visit during my Carnival Caribbean cruise.

Pin for later!

One of my favorite places in the world! 🙂

This place looks so over the top! Would be nice to try it for a few days though.

Love this! We recently posted a similar review of an Atlantis shore excursion, but this is better. Great photos. Scary shark! We hope you don’t mind we linked to this at hotelswimmingpools.com

' src=

So glad you liked it and happy to be linked to!

Having just returned last evening from our Carnival Cruise on the Fantasy, I second everything you said except on our ship, the oldest in the fleet 🙁 the amenities and activities were fewer, for example, only one small pool and two modest water slides — we really needed more water fun — so Atlantis, expensive as it was – was a complete and total highlight. I so wish it was longer! We had to drag ourlselves out of there. Nice report — thanks.

On the last cruise I took, one of the ports of call was Nassau. I have always seen commercials for Atlantis on TV and thought it looked like a lot of fun. However, I really didn’t want to do what I thought would be really touristy. After reading this I think it’s safe to say that on my next cruise to Nassau, I will be spending time at Atlantis; it sounds like it is worth the money!

Thanks for the great review, Kara. Just what I was looking for. I think my kids would love it!

Atlantis Aquaventure: RCI or Day Pass?

This is offered as a shore excursion for $205 pp. Atlantis also has day passes available for $95 pp. The ship’s excursion includes transportation, so I’m leaning towards that. But the description states it’s only for 5 hours (if you stay longer, you’re responsible for your way back to the ship) and we’re in port from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. It also doesn’t make mention of beach access, which worries me. Does anyone have experience with the shore excursion at Aquaventure? Thank you for your help!

If Atlantis is only charging $95, forget the excursion. We’ve done it both ways, whatever was cheaper, super easy to get a taxi both ways, about $5 a person. Beach is included.

Thank you, that’s so helpful! Never been to Nassau before and I didn’t know how easy/expensive it was to get a taxi.

I think when we did the excursion through NCL they just put us in the taxi vans lines up, and we took a cab back, cabs are lined up at the pier and very much want your business, 15 minute ride to Atlantis.

Just know what the taxi fare is before you leave (fixed rate). Bahamas taxi drivers are notorious for overcharging.

Thanks

As @mjkacmom  says, take a cab, short ride to Atlantis and not expensive. Gives you much more time at the resort which is a great place to spend the day. We have been there for multiple vacations. Just confirm the price before you get in the cab to go.

Wish we did the Atlantis version versus RCI........We got to Atlantis early, but the waterpark didn't open until 10am.  Then at 1 pm a nasty storm came through and we had to exit the water park.  We wound up taking a taxi back to the ship rather than wait for the RCI excursion mini bus.

There is also a water taxi as soon as you walk out the terminal, I remember it also about $5. If you take the water taxi there is a ten minute walk through a shopping area that has free wifi at starbucks.

okay, taking notes on the water taxi! I did not know about that as an option, thank you

Water taxi about 20 minutes as they do a really crappy " verbal tour" along the way. Land taxi drops you off right at the Hotel/Casino entrance.

The water taxi also waits until it’s full before heading over to Atlantis.

Typically they let you take one of three buses back to the ship, leaving roughly on the hour.  If you miss it you wait an hour.

The big key is when the water park opens - 10, versus when your ship arrives.  They walk you from the bus/taxi area through the hotel to the other end of the water park to process in and spend quite a bit of time touring you through the area.

Either buy direct or through a local hotel day room (depends on how many people if this is a good option).  See the Nassau board for how this works.

If you book through the ship definitely ditch the tour and just get a map. You will want to grab a couple of chairs and get a locker before everything is full. The pools open at 10 I believe, slides at 11.

The "Comfort Suites hack" is still the best option for a large group (3 or 4 people, and at certain times, maybe even 2).

Basically, you book a room at Comfort Suites Paradise Island for the day in advance.   The rate, when adding people, will typically be much less than the cruise line excursion prices and can be less than day passes for a group.

Take a taxi to the hotel.

Get pink cards for Aquaventure access.

Optionally, check out.  (The hotel is used to this process.)

Walk up the short hill to the Atlantis Coral Tower entrance.  Last time I was there, you'd get your wristbands over at the Beach Tower.

Enjoy the day!    Grab a taxi back at your leisure.

Guests at CSPI enjoy the same access at Atlantis that people staying at the Atlantis resort there do, excepting the Mandala Spa...but including the 4-lane lap pool.

I have NO idea why we CSPI folks get the access, but it's a great perk which I discovered right here on CruiseCritic.  (I've stayed at CSPI for several nights in a row, 6 years in a row aside from COVID.  It's become an annual tradition.)

Pools and slides at the Mayan Temple open at 10 am.  The Current (River Rapids) and the Power Tower slides open at around, or maybe a little before, 11 am.   I'd sneak over that way at around 10:45.

After the time change, now  all Aquaventure pools close at 5 pm.  The lap pool closes at 7 pm.  The "secret" hot tub above the Mayan Temple pool (near the exit from the Jungle Slide) doesn't appear to close at all.    😄

to use the Comfort Suites Hack - you book the room for the NIGHT before your port day? They won’t consider you a no-show if you don’t check in that day?

curious because I had looked this up - Atlantis Day pass would be almost $500 where as a room at the CS (literally just for the Atlantis tickets) is $400. We have a 5 and 2 yr old so are mostly interested in just the aquariums and maybe a pool/splash pad at Atlantis. Trying to find the best/most economical way to do this! Any advice/suggestions/tips and tricks are welcome and appreciated!

It’s been reported that the CS hack is no more (and when it was you booked for the day you were there, not the night before). We’ve done Atlantis twice, and left kids under 8 on the ship with grandparents, it’s really cool but not much for little ones for the price tag.

Comfort Suites still shows this " As a guest at Comfort Suites Paradise Island, not only will you enjoy a   Free Full American Buffet Breakfast  every day, but you will have full access to  Atlantis AQUAVENTURE  and its exclusive facilities, including swimming pools, private beach, magnificent waterscapes, river rides, water slides, health spa, tennis courts, golf, Kids Camp, movie theatre, casino, and more! As an added bonus, you'll also have signing privileges at  Atlantis, Paradise Island's many restaurants and lounges , making it a breeze to enjoy great food and tropical drinks at any time during your stay.  "

I agree with those who have said to forget the ships excursion.  If a day pass is offered either directly through Atlantis, or through one of the local excursion companies, take it. Usually a significant savings (but not always), and so easy to get there. Easy to get your wristband when you get over to Atlantis. For our upcoming cruise, booking a day pass directly through Atlantis was MORE expensive than booking through RCL. The local companies didn't have any day passes, they said there are times when they aren't allowed to sell them, and spring break is one of those times.

3 hours ago, Trikster27 said:  to use the Comfort Suites Hack - you book the room for the NIGHT before your port day? They won’t consider you a no-show if you don’t check in that day?

No, you book it for the night after  your arrival, and when you arrive, you are basically a very early arrival.

I said "in advance" because according to several reports, they no longer offer the Atlantis passes for bookings made the same day as arrival .

Since there are persistent rumors that the "Comfort Suites hack" (for cruisers to book) might have been dropped, I'd suggest calling the hotel directly and checking with them before committing.

On the bright side, you would still be able to cancel a hotel booking there with no penalty, per the property's normal "advance warning" policy, if you did  have to cancel.

CS website still lists it as an perk for booking with them - Atlantis tickets aren’t available for same day booking, but I would just book now at the cheapest room rate lol. Just wondering if anyone has “checked in/out” at the same time recently and been able to get the Atlantis perks. I had emailed them and they gave me a rate which was less than the Atlantis Day pass - BUT  their “quoted rate” was actually $40 more than if I just booked a room online for the dates of our “stay”.  Trying to find the best most economical way to do this (RC doesn’t offer this as an excursion either).

Yes, have checked in & out at their front desk multiple times when cruising.  Not recently tho.

Note/you can’t charge back to the room in that case

make sure to bring a CC to Atlantis, most places didn’t accept cash our last visit.  Well, Except casino slots lol

I’d book online, making sure to price out all the various discount rates.

lastly, would email then & get written conf they are still offering the included day passes to Atlantis

I think the concern now is whether they still do the ol "cruise passenger shuffle" whereby you can show up at 9 am, check in, check out, get your pink Atlantis access cards and walk up the hill to Atlantis.  I didn't make my usual 3-day trip to Atlantis last fall, so I can't say I witnessed it that recently.  The year before, yes.

Has anyone recently done the Comfort Inn “hack” and gotten the Atlantis passes? I can book a room there with my Choice points so it would come out to be a lot cheaper than buying passes directly from RCI/Atlantis. Just want to confirm this still works before booking (and ideally don’t want to call the hotel and ask directly)

One night stays no longer qualify for the passes.

After 42 Royal Caribbean cruises, I still make 1 huge mistake

You can make a lot of financial mistakes while on a cruise, and you may regret some more than others.

On some occasions, a bad choice turns out to be a positive.

That happened to me a few months ago on Celebrity Reflection, where after imbibing a few drinks, I purchased a Macallan liquor-tasting class for the next day. My experience with classes like that on other cruise lines is that they are really just sales seminars.

Related: Royal Caribbean, Carnival, and MSC all make a key pricing change

In this case, the $60 class was a wonderful education in discovering how Scotch gets made and how you pick the ones that fit your palate.

I would have taken another class with that bartender-teacher when I sailed on Equinox again a few weeks later, but that sailing offered only the one I had already taken.

I've also made mildly dumb mistakes, like not booking a dining package and then deciding I wanted to eat in the extra-fee restaurants. Buying meals a la carte costs more than buying a package beforehand. And of course there were times when I paid more for the internet or a drink package because I did not reserve it in advance.

Those are rookie mistakes but generally low-dollar affairs. On my most recent cruise on Royal Caribbean's ( RCL ) Celebrity Cruises, however, I made a blunder that cost me nearly $200. And to make matters worse, I had done the same thing on the same ship just a few weeks before.

Airplane mode is your cruise friend

When you get on a cruise ship, it's imperative to put your phone in airplane mode. This prevents your phone, even if you're not actively using it, from roaming onto networks that charge you extra money.

When T-Mobile  ( TMUS )  sees that you are not on U.S. soil, it sends you a text message to warn you about these charges. That's usually enough for me to avoid these extra costs, but it's really easy to make a mistake that can cost you a lot of money.

Cruise ships leave the U.S., sail in international waters and make stops in foreign countries. Some of those countries, including Mexico and the Bahamas, are covered by my T-Mobile phone plan, so when I'm in those places, I leave airplane mode.

Again, when you do this, T-Mobile sends you a message about how much data you get and whether there are costs associated with calls or texts. In some countries, for example, texts are free but calls cost 50 cents a minute.

In some cases, I have made calls knowing that there are costs associated, even long ones because personal or work-related reasons required me to do so. My two big bills, however, were not intentional. In both cases, I am to blame.

Do not do this on a cruise ship

On my two most-recent cruises, both on Celebrity Reflection, I barely left the ship. I spent most of my time at Cafe al Bacio, the on-board coffee shop, with my laptop in front of me.

When I was in Bimini and Key West, I switched my phone out of airplane mode so I did not have to keep switching my internet back and forth from my laptop to my phone. Doing this is a slow process since you must pull up the login screen, type in your credentials, and choose to switch devices.

In theory, there's no harm in turning off airplane mode when you're in a port that offers service from your carrier. The problem arose when we left and I neglected to turn it on again. That left my phone running up a bill: It stayed in my pocket all night while I watched live music, gambled in the casino and talked with other passengers.

The charges continued to accrue as I plugged in my phone to charge it and then went to sleep. I didn't even think much of it the next day when I saw the text message warning me.

In fact, I realized my mistake a few days after my cruise — when T-Mobile sent me a note alerting me to nearly $200 in foreign phone charges on my bill. It was an easy mistake to make, given that I made it again a few weeks later.

My best advice: Put your phone in airplane mode unless you leave the ship. And if you do leave airplane mode, put a note in your cabin to turn it back on when you get back on the ship.
