Frequently asked questions

How do i benefit from using manage my booking, what can i do through manage my booking, how do i access manage my booking, if my booking contains flights, which are not with british airways, can i still access manage my booking, if i made my booking with a travel agent, can i use manage my booking, are there any restrictions to which bookings i can access with manage my booking, if i make changes to my booking, how do i know that my changes have been stored in my booking, if i make seat and meal requests, are they guaranteed, why can't i request a special meal on my flight, can you tell me about the service where customers are able to print their own boarding pass.

As a British Airways customer, Manage My Booking is a self-service online initiative designed to assist you by:

  • Giving you reassurance about your booking by being able to view booking details 24 hours a day at any time up to when you travel for each flight.
  • Eliminating the need for you to check your booking details and request booking services by phone.
  • Reducing time spent in airport check-in queues.
  • Providing travel information relevant to your booking to help you plan and prepare for your travel.

Manage my booking allows you to:

  • View details of your travel itinerary.
  • View your seat and meal requests.
  • Make seat requests from an interactive seating plan.
  • Make meal requests from a list of available special dietary meals.
  • Provide Advance Passenger Information (e.g. passport and other details).
  • Apply for an ESTA if you're travelling to the USA or Puerto Rico.
  • Add an Executive Club or partner frequent flyer number to ensure receipt of Tier Points and Avios.
  • Email your itinerary to colleagues, friends and family.
  • View check-in times and information about Online Check-in and Self-Service Check-in kiosks.
  • Check in for your flight online and print your boarding pass before going to the airport.

To access Manage My Booking, you just need your booking reference and last name. Regardless of where you made your reservation, your booking reference can be found on your ticket (in an area called 'PNR code' or 'Locator') or on your e-ticket itinerary receipt. The reference is a series of six characters containing letters and numbers. If you are an Executive Club member and you are logged in to ba.com, you will be able to automatically list your booking references, which contain your Executive Club number. If you are unable to see this reference on any of your documentation, please contact the company from where you purchased your ticket who will have a record of it.

You can access Manage My Booking to view any flights on your booking, provided there is at least one flight with a British Airways flight number. Seat and meal request services, the Advance Passenger Information service, Online Check-in, if available, can only be used on flights with a British Airways flight number.

If you have booked through a travel agent and your booking contains at least one flight with a British Airways flight number, then simply use your travel agent's booking reference to access the Manage My Booking service. There are two key service limitations, which may apply to a travel agent booking:

  • You may not be able to view all of your flights in Manage My Booking. If this is the case, then this is because British Airways does not own the booking and is normally allowed to view it's own flights plus with preceding and succeeding connecting flights (regardless of airline).
  • Changes made through Manage My Booking to British Airways flights will normally not be passed back to your travel agent booking.

You will be unable to access Manage My Booking for any bookings that:

  • were made through our Group Bookings team or via a travel agent for a group, which includes any booking for 10 or more passengers
  • are for flights that have been flown or cancelled
  • include hotels, cars, experiences or transfers booked on iberia.com

Please contact us instead.

You will be notified of any change to your booking by email, where an email address has been provided.

Whilst we will do all we can to satisfy your request, the delivery of seat and meal requests cannot be guaranteed.

Special meal requests cannot be made for travel on any UK Domestic flight. Special meals requests cannot be made on some Euro Traveller flights.

Check where you can request a special meal

If you are travelling on a standby or waitlist ticket you will be unable to request special meals on any route.

Kosher meal requests are not available on all services. Please check here to see where kosher meals are available . Special meal requests are unavailable on all other routes if your flight is due to depart within 24 hours.

Please note: Special meal requests on British Airways flights operated by our partner airlines may differ from above. Flights operated to/from London City airport have complimentary catering.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

From selected locations, customers using Online Check-in can print their own boarding pass at home or in the office and go straight to the central search security area on arrival. This then saves the customer visiting a Self-Service Check-in kiosk at the airport to collect their boarding pass. The Online boarding pass needs to be printed on plain white A4 or letter paper and includes a unique 2D barcode, which will be scanned by airport security staff and checked off against information already in the system. When travelling from the UK, customers will need to provide photographic ID in the form of a passport, identity card or driving licence, along with their Online boarding pass, before they will be allowed to pass through security. At all other airport locations, the passport/identity card check will be carried out before boarding the aircraft. The technology that is being used, along with the requirement for an approved type of photographic ID, means that customers can be reassured that security is in no way being compromised. Customers with onward flights If the Online boarding pass service is not available from the location that your onward journey or return journey departs, customers will need to collect their boarding passes for their onward/return journeys from a check-in or a Self-Service Check-in kiosk where available.

Status Match to British Airways Silver or Gold Tier

British Airways  has just announced a status match exclusively for Canadian and US residents who hold elite status with select airlines.

If you’re eligible, you can match to British Airways Silver or Gold Tier for six months, with the possibility of extending it further with paid flights.

British Airways doesn’t typically run as many status match campaigns as other airlines, which makes this opportunity particularly intriguing if you’re eligible.

Matching Status with British Airways

British Airways has launched a new status match campaign that specifically targets Canadian and American frequent flyers.

To qualify for the status match, you must be a resident of Canada or the United States, have a British Airways Executive Club membership, and hold the following status tiers with the specified airlines:

If you hold any of the aforementioned status levels and are eligible for the status match, head to the British Airways status match landing page to submit your request before May 7, 2024.

You’ll need to provide the following information to British Airways for your status match request:

  • Proof of identification (passport or drivers license)
  • Proof of status, with your full name, current status, validity date of status, airline or program with which you hold status, and your frequent flyer number

If you have status with Air Canada, you can take a screenshot of your status from the Air Canada app, which has all of the requested information.

Once you submit the application, you’ll hear back within five business days from British Airways. If you’re approved, you’ll receive a confirmation email, along with an upgraded digital membership card, and your matched status will be valid for six months.

You can extend the validity of your British Airways status through to the end of your next membership year by booking and travelling on two paid transatlantic segments within six months of being upgraded.

The flights must be a British Airways-marketed flight in business class (Club World) or First Class , and must be operated by British Airways, American Airlines, or Finnair. Your flights must originate from the US, Canada, or Mexico, and they must be eligible for earning Tier Points and collecting Avios.

Keep in mind that you can get 10% off British Airways flights if you pay with the RBC® British Airways Visa Infinite† , which can make a good deal even better.

As with any status match opportunity, there’s absolutely no harm in participating if you’re eligible. You never know when having status will come in handy, so if you’re eligible, send in your status match request and then keep an eye out for transatlantic flight deals in business class and First Class to extend it further.

British Airways Silver & Gold Tier Benefits

British Airways has three elite status Tiers : Bronze, Silver, and Gold.

british airways trip status

Through this status match opportunity, you can match into the upper two status Tiers, which come with a number of perks and benefits.

Matching to British Airways Silver Tier grants you the following benefits:

  • one world Sapphire status (see below)
  • Priority check-in at business class counters
  • Free seat selection at the time of booking for yourself and companions on the same booking
  • Priority boarding
  • Status freeze for maternity/paternity/adoption
  • 8 Avios per £1 spent on flights with British Airways and American Airlines
  • 7 Avios per £1 or €1 spent on flights with Iberia
  • Two free checked bags of up to 32kg (70lbs) each for yourself and companions on the same booking, except for basic economy fares
  • Access to business lounges, plus one guest
  • Dedicated support hotline
  • Reservation Assurance: guaranteed seat when booking a full, flexible economy fare

Silver Tier status with British Airways Executive Club is equivalent to one world Sapphire status, which grants you the following benefits when flying with a one world or one world Connect airline:

  • Access to preferred or pre-reserved seating
  • Priority waitlist and standby
  • Access to business class lounges
  • Extra baggage allowance

Of the above benefits, the best perks are having access to business class lounges when travelling in any class of service, priority check-in and boarding, free seat selection at the time of booking, and an increased baggage allowance.

Keep in mind that these benefits apply when flying in any class of service with  one world and  one world Connect airlines, which can be very useful if you travel in economy.

If you’re eligible to status match to British Airways Gold Tier, you’ll enjoy the following perks and benefits:

  • one world Emerald status (see below)
  • Priority check-in at First Class or business class counters
  • Free seat selection at the time of booking for yourself and companions, even if they’re on a separate booking
  • 9 Avios per £1 spent on flights with British Airways and American Airlines
  • 8 Avios per £1 or €1 spent on flights with Iberia
  • Additional checked bag of up to 32kg (70lbs) each for member and companions on the same booking, except for basic economy fares
  • Access to First Class lounges, plus one guest
  • Access to business class lounges, plus one guest
  • Access to arrivals lounges for yourself only

In addition to the above, Gold members receive Gold Priority Rewards, which unlock otherwise unavailable award seats on any cabin for double the regular Avios. These rewards must be booked at least 30 days in advance by phone.

Gold status with British Airways Executive Club is equivalent to top-tier oneworld Emerald status, which grants you the following benefits when flying with a one world or one world Connect airline:

  • Access to First Class and business class lounges
  • Fast-track at security checkpoints

Notably, having British Airways Gold Tier status grants you access to First Class lounges, which is one of the best perks that comes with one world Emerald status.

Otherwise, the benefits largely mirror those at the Silver Tier, though you’ll get some extra baggage, better airport priority services, an increased earning rate on paid flights, and access to arrivals lounges .

british airways trip status

The current British Airways status match opportunity is a great way for you to enjoy some extra perks on British Airways and  one world flights.

If you’re eligible, head to the status match landing page and submit your request before May 7, 2024.

British Airways rarely offers status matches, which makes this a great opportunity to see what  one world Sapphire or Emerald status is all about!

Chaos at Heathrow as baggage delays described as 'disgraceful' and a 'shambles' by British Airways passengers

British Airways was forced to bring in extra teams to help reunite people with their lost luggage.

Wednesday 26 June 2024 13:22, UK

Lots of unpicked baggage are left at an arrival lobby of Heathrow Airport (LHR) in London, United Kingdom on June 25, 2022. At Heathrow Airport, the management system broke down and a large amount of luggage has been left unattended. There were a series of flight delays and cancellations. One of the reasons is that many employees were dismissed due to the new coronavirus COVID-19. ( The Yomiuri Shimbun via AP Images )

Air passengers faced major disruption when their luggage was lost after a "technical fault" brought chaos to Heathrow Airport.

Many British Airways (BA) flights were delayed by several hours - while people arriving on flights into the west London airport also faced long delays to retrieve their baggage.

BA said there had been a "temporary technical fault" which had disrupted its baggage system at the airport and had apologised for the problems it caused.

But some travellers took to social media to describe their frustration at the delays, with one person who flew into Heathrow calling the situation a "shambles".

BA said it had brought in "additional colleagues" to try to reunite people with their luggage.

The airport said people travelling with BA "may still be impacted" and should check before setting off.

No other airlines are involved in the chaos, it added.

It comes after there was disruption and long queues at Manchester Airport earlier this week following a major power cut which grounded all flights from two terminals.

Significant power cut left hundreds of passengers stuck at Manchester airport

The technical issue at Heathrow began on Tuesday afternoon but was resolved towards the end of the day, according to officials.

A spokesman for BA said: "We've apologised to those customers who were unable to travel with their luggage due to a temporary technical fault that was outside of our control.

"This issue has been resolved and we've brought in additional colleagues to support our teams in getting bags back to our customers as quickly as possible."

British Airways is unable to put a timeframe on when passengers will be reunited with bags after a ‘technical fault’ caused chaos at Heathrow.

Passengers flying out from London arrived at destinations to discover their luggage was not on the plane.

Others waited hours at the carousel in Terminal Five before realising their bags were not coming.

BA declined to say how many flights, passengers or bags weee affected.

A spokesperson said passengers were asked to fill out a form, leaving a forwarding address so bags could be delivered by courier.

Extra staff have been called in to speed up efforts to deal with the backlog.

A British Airways spokesman said: “We’ve apologised to those customers who were unable to travel with their luggage due to a temporary technical fault that was outside of our control.

“This issue has been resolved and we’ve brought in additional colleagues to support our teams in getting bags back to our customers as quickly as possible.”
