This adorable Brooklyn electro-pop duo scored big back in 2008 with “Bruises,” a twinkling, tear-streaked anthem that famously perked up a colorful iPod television ad. “TV commercial soundtrack stars” is a weird position to be in, particularly for an indie outfit that probably never foresaw a smash single. Unlike folk chameleon Leslie Feist — who chose to follow her Apple time capsule moment (the stunning “1234”) with the insular, un-catchy album “Metals” — Chairlift have offered another slice of infectious synth sunshine for their welcome-back party, but “Sidewalk Safari” is weirder and a tad rougher around the edges than “Bruises.” It’s also way better-check out Patrick Wimberly’s undulating vintage keys, the snaking collage of exotic beats, and Caroline Polacheck’s wicked vocal performance, which alternates between Top 40 sparkle and prog rock. Even the outro sounds like the disintegrating soundtrack to a ’70s B-movie.

After a bit of a hiatus, Brooklyn electro-pop duo Chairlift returned this summer with a limited-edition single on Terrible , "Amanaemonesia" . On January 23, 2012, Chairlift will release Something , their follow-up to 2008's Does You Inspire You , on Columbia ( Young Turks will release the record in the UK). Here's the first official single from that album, "Sidewalk Safari".

Chairlift “Sidewalk Safari”
Chairlift, an electronic pop duo currently based in Brooklyn, lifts “all of the bones in your body” to a higher ground. You can feel this elevation from the beginning of “Sidewalk Safari” with Patrick Wimberly’s production of an eerie background base. Coincidentally, Chairlift was originally a trio in Boulder, Colorado that created soundtracks for haunted houses. But beyond the bizarre, synthetic sounds, Caroline Polachek takes full command of the vocals. Her confident, jazzy voice is the perfect contrast to a trippy background – shifting fright into flamboyance.
Come January, Chairlift will have showcased its unique, hypnotic music in three stimulating albums. First it was the self-released Daylight Savings EP in 2007. Does You Inspire You (2008) featured “Evident Utensil,” which was nominated for the breakthrough video in 2009’s MTV Video Music Awards, as well as “Bruises,” which appeared an iPod Nano commercial. Chairlift has had bits of fame here and there, but the name will surely spread after people hear what’s next. “Sidewalk Safari” is on Chairlift’s third album, Something , which hits the market on January 24, 2012.
