Top sights and attractions on a jamaica cruise, doctor's cave beach.

Located in Montego Bay, Doctor’s Cave Beach earned its name after a British osteopath stopped by the beach in the 1920s and boasted about its curative powers and many health benefits. Take a dip or go on a snorkeling excursion in the warm, crystal-clear waters, or enjoy a relaxing day on the white, pristine sand under the shadow of a palm tree.

Bob Marley’s Home

Step inside the former home of Bob Marley, the musical legend who turned reggae into a global phenomenon. Located in Kingston, this wooden house has been turned into a museum that provides a beautiful look into Marley’s early life and musical legacy. Peek inside Marley’s bedroom, which has been kept exactly as when the music star lived in it. Watch a life-sized 3D hologram of Bob Marley performing at his One Love Peace Concert in 1978. See one of the largest collections of Bob Marley memorabilia, which include his favorite clothes, his collection of gold and platinum records, and his original star guitar.

Rose Hall Great House

Visit the majestic 6,600-acre Rose Hall Great House, one of the most famous homes in Jamaica and the setting for a number of Gothic novels and tales. Built in the 18th century, this plantation is said to be haunted by the spirit Annie Palmer, a murderous widow and plantation owner also known as the White Witch. Whether you believe in the macabre legend or not, a trip to this colonial manse turned museum is well worth the visit for architecture lovers or those who just like a good spooky story.

Learn More About Caribbean Shore Excursions

Top things to do in jamaica, explore the green grotto caves.

On a Jamaica cruise, descend into the fascinating Green Grotto Caves, a network of underground passageways that are reportedly over five million years old. Located near the area where Christopher Columbus first stepped foot on the Caribbean island, the Green Grotto Caves are a stunning natural attraction full of breathtaking stalactites and stalagmites, light holes, and a crystal-clear grotto lake. Learn about the caves’ rich history and how the Arawaks used it as a refuge from the Spanish colonizers. Before you leave, make sure to stop by the mythical wishing well, where you’re encouraged to toss in a coin for good luck.

Hike Up Dunns River Falls

Hike up Dunns River Falls, one of Jamaica’s most popular natural attractions and one of the only travertine waterfalls in the world to fall directly into the sea. As you make your way up this 180-foot-high trail of spectacular waterfalls and springs, you’ll pass by captivating natural pools that make for the perfect spot for a refreshing dip in the water. At the end of the falls, you’ll arrive at Little Dunn’s River Beach, another Jamaican oasis where you can rest and relax under the sun.

Swim with Dolphins at Dolphin Cove

Embark on an experience of a lifetime by swimming with dolphins at Dolphin Cove. You can also snorkel with stingrays, learn more about the exotic birds, snakes, and iguanas that live in the neighboring jungle, or simply enjoy a leisurely afternoon at Dolphin Cove’s white sandy beach.

Top Food and Drink in Jamaica

Jamaican cuisine ranges from mild to wild, a result of its British, Spanish, and African influences. One of the staples for breakfast or lunch is saltfish with ackee, a fruit with the taste and texture of scrambled eggs. During your cruise to Jamaica, you must try the legendary flavor of jerk, a signature seasoning invented by runaway slaves which adds a distinctly Jamaican kick to chicken, lamb, pork, fish, and even veggies.

Culture and History of Jamaica

The original name of the island was Xaymaca, which means “land of wood and water.” After Christopher Columbus discovered Jamaica in 1494, the native Arawak people were displaced and the island was colonized and used by the Spanish mainly as a supply base for food and weapons. In 1655, the British attacked Jamaica, and Spain eventually surrendered the island to England.

Under English settlement, pirating was rampant. Buccaneers eventually took control of Port Royal, a town that was known at the time as the “wealthiest and wickedest city in the world.” Sugar exports grew exponentially, and in order to keep up with the demand, enslaved Africans were taken to the island against their will to work in the plantations. There were many slave rebellions and confrontations until 1808, when the Abolition Bill was passed and slavery was finally outlawed.

On August 6, 1962, Jamaica gained independence from England. Even though it is a small island in the Caribbean, Jamaican culture has a strong global influence, specifically in music. Local genres such as reggae, ska, dub, and dancehall are famous around the world.

Jamaica Port Facilities & Location

Cruises to Jamaica dock in the Falmouth cruise port, nestled in between the towns of Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. You’ll hear reggae music as soon as you step foot in port, a traditional welcome gesture by local musicians. Nearby, there are several historic attractions in the town of Falmouth, including the Armory at Fort Balcarres, the Glistening Waters Lagoon, and the Albert George Market.

Transportation in Jamaica

At the Falmouth cruise port, there are buses, minibuses, and route taxis ready to take visitors to the many natural attractions and beaches nearby. Keep an eye out for taxis with a JTB decal, which have been authorized by the Jamaica Tourist Board. When you book a shore excursion, transportation is included.

Shopping Near the Jamaica Cruise Port

As soon as you disembark from a cruise to Jamaica, you’ll be able to shop at the Falmouth cruise port and its selection of duty-free shops. There’s also a craft market in the center of the port where you’ll find handmade souvenirs, artifacts, and jewelry.

Local Currency & Tipping Customs

The official currency in Jamaica is the Jamaican Dollar, but United States Dollars are accepted in many tourist destinations. Credit cards and debit cards are also accepted in most tourist areas, but it’s always a good idea to have some local currency on hand. As for tipping, consider tipping anywhere from 15% to 20% for good service. Some places accept tips in both Jamaican and US dollars.

7 Cruises to Jamaica and the Surrounding Caribbean

Enjoy the island spirit on a cruise to the land of reggae and rum.

cruise in jamaica

Jamaica is one of the most popular Caribbean destinations, and if you've ever lounged on one of the island's gorgeous beaches with a fruit-filled rum punch in hand, it's easy to understand why. It helps that Jamaica is extremely accessible. You can fly there (direct from New York City in four hours, at that), but many prefer the experience of island hopping via a Caribbean cruise.

The major cruise ports of Jamaica are Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Falmouth, and Kingston. On the northeastern coast, there's also Port Antonio, which isn't suitable for most large ships but attracts boutique cruise lines and private yachts.

Whether you're interested in discovering pirate history, hiking through the rain forest to see waterfalls, or searching for the best jerk chicken on the island, you're bound to find a cruise itinerary that suits you. Here are some of the best Jamaica-inclusive Caribbean cruises .

Viking Ocean Cruises, Panama Canal and Central America; 15 Days

A round trip from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, this cruise stops in seven countries. The ship sails the Caribbean for two days before making its first stop in Montego Bay, Jamaica, where cruise-goers can plan to hike the rain forest, visit Dunn's River Falls, or ride a bamboo raft down the Great River, among other excursions. The cruise offers activities for foodies, thrill seekers, history buffs, and beach bums.

After departing Montego Bay, the ship sails the Caribbean and Panama Canal for two days before making its next stop at Colón, Panama, for an optional visit to Indigenous villages or a walk around the colorful city. The following stops — Puerto Limón, Costa Rica ; Roatán, off the coast of Honduras; Belize City, Belize; and Cozumel , Mexico — showcase the Caribbean's lushest landscapes, ancient Mayan ruins, pristine beaches, and lively towns.

Between ports, a historian teaches about pirates and treasure hunters, pre-Columbian civilizations, and the Age of Discovery aboard the 930-guest Viking Mars . When you aren't attending a lecture, you can indulge in a treatment at the Nordic spa, catch a live performance in the theater, order a martini at the 1940s-inspired bar, or partake in Waffle Hour in the Explorers' Lounge.

Carnival Cruise Line, Western Caribbean; 5 Days

This cruise aboard the Carnival Sunrise departs from Miami for a day at sea before arriving in Grand Cayman. On the island, you can visit a rum cake factory or go snorkeling. After leaving the Cayman Islands , the ship moves on to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, where excursions include swimming with dolphins, river tubing, zip lining, and horseback riding along the shore. The ship then spends another day at sea before arriving back in Miami.

Onboard dining options include a steakhouse, an Italian restaurant, Guy's (as in Guy Fieri's) Burger Joint, a barbecue spot, a cantina, and a sushi joint. Adults can find a quiet spot in the 21-and-up Serenity Retreat, or they can get together in a pub, lounge, or piano bar.

For kids, Seuss at Sea provides a character parade, interactive story time, themed breakfasts, and crafting sessions. Meanwhile, Camp Ocean offers supervised activities like games, songs, dancing, movies, video games, and kids-only meals.

Oceania Cruises, Classic Panama Canal; 11 Days

Travel from Panama City to Miami on Oceania Cruises' Sirena , stopping along the South American coast along the way. The first stop after a day of sailing through the Panama Canal is Cartagena, Colombia , where cruise-goers can hop off the ship to see mansions and a historic fort. The following day is dedicated to Santa Marta, Colombia's oldest city.

The ship then visits Oranjestad, Aruba; Willemstad, Curacao; and Kralendijk, Bonaire, before turning its bow to the north, toward Florida. After a day of sailing the Caribbean, Sirena drops anchor at Port Antonio, Jamaica, the gateway to Blue and John Crow Mountains National Park. Guests get a chance to hike, swim, and explore the town square for a day before embarking on another long sail — this time on the Atlantic. A day trip in Nassau, Bahamas , is the perfect penultimate stop before you reach your final destination, Miami.

During days at sea, Sirena keeps up to 648 guests entertained with a pool, theater, casino, and spa, as well as a wide variety of restaurants and an afternoon tea tradition.

Royal Caribbean International, Western Caribbean and Perfect Day; 6 Nights

This cruise leaves Orlando and, after a day at sea, stops in Labadee, Haiti, where activities range from riding a toboggan-style roller coaster to zip lining over the ocean. From there, the ship travels to Falmouth, Jamaica, located between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, for options like horseback riding, river tubing, hiking to a waterfall, and high tea at the historical Good Hope Estate.

After it departs Jamaica, the ship again spends the day at sea. Between ports, travelers can enjoy the spa, fitness center, live performances, kids' activities, and a variety of restaurants aboard the Mariner of the Seas . Following the cruising day is a stop at Royal Caribbean's private CocoCay in the Bahamas. Fill your "Perfect Day" chasing adventure at Thrill Waterpark, where you can ride down North America's tallest waterslide, or relaxing in an overwater cabana at Coco Beach Club. The cay is also home to Chill Island, a beach "neighborhood" where you'll find quiet relaxation, cabana rentals, and restaurants. The next morning, the ship arrives back in Orlando.

Disney Cruise Line, Western Caribbean Cruise; 7 Nights

Consider taking a tour of the Kennedy Space Center before boarding the Disney Fantasy in Cape Canaveral. The first full day of this cruise is spent at sea, but pools, a spa, kids' clubs, restaurants, games, and entertainment provide much to do on the way to Cozumel. Upon arrival in Mexico, guests get the chance to snorkel or dive among coral reefs, shop for handmade souvenirs, and relax on the beach.

The next port is George Town on Grand Cayman, where you can explore botanic gardens, swim at Seven Mile Beach, or visit the town's shops and restaurants. In Falmouth, Jamaica, the next day, optional activities include a zip-line adventure, waterfall hike, catamaran cruise, horseback ride, or dolphin encounter. The next day at sea is a time to enjoy the ship's amenities while cruising to Disney Castaway Cay.

On this private island reserved for Disney Cruise Line guests, there is a water play area, white-sand beach, walking trails, snorkeling lagoon, boat rentals, teen hideout, and adults-only Serenity Bay. After departing Castaway Cay, the ship cruises overnight to arrive back at Port Canaveral the following day.

Celebrity Cruises, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Mexico; 6 Nights

Departing from Fort Lauderdale, Celebrity Reflection spends the first day at sea, giving guests the opportunity to relax in the spa, pool, and solarium. Cozumel is the first stop; the island's coral reef is ideal for snorkeling and diving, while deep-sea fishing is also an option. If you prefer to stay on dry land, you can ferry to Playa del Carmen and Tulum, shop for local-made souvenirs, or dine on fresh seafood and Mexican specialties.

The next port is George Town on Grand Cayman, where guests can shop, go on a catamaran cruise, snorkel, or sample the island's cuisine, including conch. From there, the ship heads to Falmouth, Jamaica. Aside from touring the historic town, there's a wide range of activities: take a trip to the Green Grotto Caves and Dunn's River Falls, ride a horse along the beach, swim with dolphins, or go tubing or zip lining. The next day is spent at sea, with time to enjoy the ship's restaurants, casino, cocktail lounges, and entertainment, before arriving back at Fort Lauderdale the following morning.

MSC Cruises, Western Caribbean; 14 Nights

MSC Divina 's 14-night Western Caribbean itinerary varies slightly from sailing to sailing, but one sample schedule goes as follows: After departing from Miami, the first stop is Nassau, Bahamas, where guests might like to kick off their two-week vacation with a VIP cabana experience on Blue Lagoon Island. The following day, Divina sails to the Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, a private destination with beachside spa treatments, snorkeling and diving opportunities, and an outdoor food court. The ship then returns to Miami for a day before continuing to Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

In Ocho Rios, you can swim in the sparkling Iris Blue Hole or climb to the top of Konoko Falls. Another day at sea follows, during which guests can enjoy this modern, elegant ship with a casino, a spa, kids' and teens' clubs, restaurants, and bars. The next stop is Cartagena, a UNESCO World Heritage site with cobblestone streets and pastel-colored buildings, followed by Colón, Panama. At the next port of call, Puerto Limón, Costa Rica, guests get the day to explore and take a boat adventure through the jungle, looking for crocodiles, monkeys, and manatees.

From there, the ship spends another day at sea, one day in Roatán, Honduras, and then a final day at sea en route back to Ocean Cay. Following one more day of MSC guests-only fun, the ship returns to Miami the next morning for disembarkation.

What cruise lines sail to Jamaica?

Several cruise lines sail to Jamaica with most itineraries departing from the United States. Royal Caribbean sails to Jamaica from Tampa, Florida. Celebrity cruises to both Ocho Rios and another Jamaican port, Falmouth. Carnival has several itineraries that stop in Jamaica, including a few that sail the Panama Canal. Carnival Cruise Line and Princess Cruises sail to both Montego Bay, located on the northern side of the island, and Ocho Rios. MSC, Norwegian , and Holland America also include Jamaica on their cruise itineraries.

MSC alone offers more than 50 cruises that stop in Jamaica.

Jamaica cruise itineraries often depart from Texas or Florida and include other Caribbean islands. Some include more adventures, sailing to Central America or through the Panama Canal.

What cruise ships sail to Jamaica?

Cruises to Jamaica tend to be longer, with many itineraries falling into the five- to seven-night range, so you’ll need more than a long weekend for this vacation. Ships sailing here tend to be larger and stacked with onboard entertainment and activities. Most ships sailing to Jamaica, like Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur of the Seas , the Norwegian Escape , and the MSC Meraviglia , carry thousands of passengers, but Viking Cruises and Oceania Cruises sail to Jamaica on ships that carry 1,200 passengers or less.

Whatever kind of cruise experience you’re looking for, you can find it on a ship headed toward the sandy beaches and reggae beats of Jamaica. These are some of the best Jamaica cruises for every kind of traveler.

Which Jamaica cruise port is better?

Ocho Rios on Jamaica’s northern coast is the island's largest and best-located cruise port. It offers easy access to two of Jamaica’s top attractions—Dunn’s River Falls and Mystic Mountain, where you’ll find bobsledding and zip-lining—and several of Jamaica’s most popular activities. In Ocho Rios, you can ride horses on the beach, take a tour to learn about Bob Marley and the roots of reggae music, or relax on sandy beaches. The port is a quick walk from town, making it easy to explore on your own if you choose not to take an excursion.

What is the best month to cruise to Jamaica?

There’s no place like Jamaica to escape winter. Jamaica’s dry season stretches from mid-December through April and brings sunny days with pleasant temperatures. Cruise to Jamaica between mid-December and April for perfect beach days and good weather for exploring rainforests and local markets. Avoid cruising the Caribbean in August and September, which is peak hurricane season.

Featured Ocho Rios CRUISE ITINERARIES

Mon-Fri 9am - 7pm EST Sat-Sun 9am - 6pm EST

Ocho Rios means eight rivers in Spanish, and it is precisely its rivers, as well as its crystalline sea, that are its main characteristics; characteristics that will not disappoint visitors to Jamaica wishing to immerse themselves in the lush vegetation of these marvelous dream locations.

Just like a mirage, the white buildings of Ochos Rios seems to appear unexpectedly from lush vegetation covering the coast. On Main Street, you will be able to shop or pass your day on solid ground. However, during your cruise to Jamaica and Caribbean sea , we suggest you try the many outdoor activities offered on its rivers, such as kayaking and tubing. With an MSC excursion , you will be able to admire the Konoko Falls & Gardens : an explosion of tropical plant and animal life with different aromas emanating from sinuously shaped flowers and colorful parrots at every corner.  Another must-see attraction are the waterfalls along the Dunn River: almost 650 feet of natural steps over which the water flows to then fall about 200 feet directly into the sea. To enjoy this spectacle to the fullest, these enchanting waterfalls can be climbed via stairs set on either side. The beach below with its extremely fine, pure white sand is equally beautiful. The sea of Ochos Rios will also grant you the opportunity of a close encounter with a very popular sea mammal: the dolphin.

LOCAL CUISINE Spice and Everything Nice

A blend of old and new influences, Jamaican cuisine incorporates the flavours of the indigenous peoples that once inhabited the island and the Europeans that once landed on its shores.

Authentic Jerk Chicken from Jamaica

The Right Kind of Jerk

Jerk chicken is the fragrant, smoky and spicy dish that's arguably Jamaica's culinary claim to fame. This spicy barbecued chicken gets its red-hot flavours from a special rub, usually including Scotch bonnet peppers and sweeter spices like allspice and nutmeg.

Traditional Dish Ackee and Saltfish from Jamaica

AN UNLIKELY PEAR

You might not think of fruit and fish together, but Jamaican cooks have turned this unlikely pairing into a distinctive dish. Ackee and codfish incorporates the fleshy, yellow seeds of the tropical, pear-shaped ackee fruit with salted cod. The result is a light but filling protein-packed dish that's typically served over rice for dinner or with dumplings for breakfast.

Typical Breakfast Fried Bammy Plantains Ackee and Saltfish from Jamaica

Double Bammy

The history of bammy goes way, way back. Originally eaten by Jamaica's indigenous inhabitants, this flatbread is made from the starchy root vegetable cassava. It's then soaked in coconut milk and then fried to perfection. Enjoy them on their own in for breakfast or alongside fish or jerk chicken at lunch or dinner.

Montego Bay cruise port

Local Time 2024-05-17 07:36

Port Montego Bay cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Montego Bay, Jamaica. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Montego Bay (aka MoBay) is Jamaica's second-largest cruise port and city (after Ocho Rios ) located on the island's northwestern coast. The city has population around 110,000 and was founded as a port town serving the export of sugar, bananas and butter.

The city is ranked Jamaica's 4th largest urban area (after Kingston , Spanish Town, Portmore), all of which form Greater Kingston (metro population over 660,000).

Montego Bay is among Caribbeans most famous cruise ship travel destinations featuring duty-free shopping, large cruise terminal, top-quality resorts and beaches in close proximity. The city is served by Sangster Airport - located approx 5 km (3 mi) east of downtown. Regularly scheduled flights link to UK ( London , Birmingham, Manchester), Canada ( Toronto , Montreal , Calgary, Edmonton), USA ( Chicago , Houston , Baltimore , Fort Lauderdale , Orlando , Philadelphia , St Louis , Detroit , NYC , Miami , Charlotte, Dallas, Atlanta), Haiti (Port-au-Prince), Cuba ( Havana , Holguin), Panama City , Peru ( Lima ), Germany ( Dusseldorf , Frankfurt ), Belgium ( Brussels ).

Sam Sharpe Square is the heart of downtown and named after the slave who in 1831 led the "Christmas Rebellion". The square is a popular gathering spot, where vendors sell snacks, refreshments, T-shirts. The old town features excellent examples of Georgian architecture. Outside the city, tourists can visit Doctor's Cave Beach and enjoy river-rafting on Martha Brae. Dunn's River Falls are another must-see. Located west of downtown Ocho Rios, these mountain waters plunge 183 m (600 ft) to the limestone beds and then stream under the roadway before flowing into the Caribbean Sea. Other landmarks include 18th-century plantation houses and the Appleton Sugar Estate.

By annual passenger traffic (statistical data 2019), the Caribbean's top-10 largest airports are:

  • Luis Munoz Marin Airport/aka Isla Verde ( San Juan Puerto Rico ) with ~9,5 million pax
  • Punta Cana Airport ( Punta Cana Dominicana ) with ~7,2 million pax
  • Jose Marti Airport ( Havana Cuba ) with 5,7+ million pax
  • Sangster Airport (Montego Bay Jamaica) with ~4,8 million pax
  • Lynden Pindling Airport ( Nassau Bahamas ) with ~4,1 million pax
  • Las Americas Airport ( Santo Domingo Dominicana ) with ~4 million pax
  • Piarco Airport ( Port-of-Spain Trinidad ) with 2,8+ million pax
  • Queen Beatrix Airport ( Oranjestad Aruba ) with 2,5+ million pax
  • Pointe-a-Pitre Airport ( Pointe-a-Pitre Guadeloupe ) with ~2,5 million pax
  • Grantley Adams Airport ( Bridgetown Barbados ) with ~2,3 million pax

This explains why these port cities are used as seasonal turnaround ports for homeporting (roundtrip itineraries) by many major cruise companies with ship deployments in the Caribbean.

You, therefore, often end up shuffled onto crowded excursion tour buses and large boats packed to capacity. Do not make that mistake. You will be glad to have chosen one of our Boutique Excursions regardless of the Western Caribbean Port you will visit on your cruise.

At Excursions International, we specialize in unique and boutique tours in addition to our “best for less” excursions, offering excellent value for some of the most popular tours. Excursions International provides tours and excursions for almost every budget and individual need.

Is The Cruise Port Of Falmouth, Jamaica, Actually As Terrible As People Say?

M ajor cruise lines, including Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, and Carnival, all make stops in the Jamaican port of Falmouth. Royal Caribbean writes of horseback riding on the beach and jamming to reggae with the locals in town. It sounds like a great place to experience Jamaican culture. So, why does Falmouth have such a terrible reputation with tourists?

If this is your first time hearing about Falmouth, let us enlighten you. The port is gated and has shops and restaurants housed in Georgian-style buildings. This area of Falmouth is perfectly safe for tourists. However, in Reddit's r/Cruise forum, posters like u/floodcasso2  write that outside the port area in Falmouth is "one of the roughest tourist spots" they've ever been to and advise people not to leave the port area unless they're going on an excursion. But is Falmouth really that terrible or that unsafe? We think that depends on what kind of traveler you are.

Reasons Not To Explore Falmouth

The issue that most travelers have with Falmouth is being overwhelmed by local vendors. Visitors recall their experience of being surrounded by aggressive vendors who refuse to leave them alone. One Reddit poster writes of having their clothes pulled at by people attempting to sell them things.

Other cruisers write about the never-ending hassle and feeling threatened when refusing to buy anything. Several more Redditors claimed to have been offered drugs in the town. While many savvy travelers have experienced high-pressure sales techniques before, Falmouth seems to take it to the next level. If all of this sounds like a nightmare, then yes, Falmouth really is terrible.

If you fall into this camp, you have a few choices when your cruise docks in Falmouth. You can stay on the ship, remain in the port area, or book a shore excursion . The gated port area is removed from the chaos. It's a fine place to walk around for a couple of hours, enjoy some live music, and get a taste of the local food. Several cruisers recommend the beef patties sold at a kiosk in the port. Falmouth is conveniently located between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay where there are many exciting tourist activities. If you book an excursion, you can hike to epic waterfalls at Dunn's River Falls , visit a 200-year-old plantation house, or zipline over a lush canopy of tropical foliage.

Why You Might Want To Venture Out And Give Falmouth A Chance

There is a flip side to all of this, though. Many travelers say Falmouth is not that bad. Rhonda of the blog Travel? Yes Please! left the port area and went into the town. She wrote that while she was approached by many vendors on the street, it was an annoying but not dangerous experience and that the hassle died down as she moved away from the port and into the town center.

Redditor u/whataryder in the r/Cruise forum writes that she was "polite but firm" with vendors in the town of Falmouth and didn't feel physically threatened. We think it comes down to your comfort level and willingness to run the gauntlet of vendors to get to the town. Once there, you'll get to experience more authentic local culture and be able to buy souvenirs from local artisans.

As everyone's comfort level is different, we can't tell you whether to go to Falmouth on your next cruise. However, if you decide to leave the port area, make sure to read our article about how to protect your valuables on shore and be prepared to say a loud and firm "No, thank you" when approached by vendors.

Here, you’ll not only be able to embrace your wild side, but you can also enjoy the quintessential Caribbean getaway by taking advantage of the turquoise waters that surround the property. The indulgent experience also includes costume parties, theme nights, interactive tantra workshops, and tantric massages. Now, if this isn’t romance-reigniting, then we don’t know what is.

  • Tranquil location
  • Options for fully nude, topless, or fully clothed

Jamaica’s tourist arrivals continue to grow despite headwinds – Seiveright

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Senior Advisor and Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism, Delano Seiveright says official tourist arrival numbers as at the first week of May are ahead of the same period in 2023, which was a major growth year for the sector.

Seiveright noted that Jamaica recorded just over 1.7 million tourist arrivals up to the first week of May with just more than one million stopover arrivals and more than 700,000 cruise passengers.

“This represents a remarkable 4.6 per cent increase for stopover arrivals and a whopping 23 per cent increase for cruise passengers,” said Seiveright.

“The still strong numbers also reinforce the continued success of efforts and strategies piloted by Minister of Tourism Edmund Bartlett and his team since the devastating impact of the COVID -19 pandemic,” added Seiveright.

He pointed out that despite the decelerating effect of headwinds created by growing global economic uncertainties, relatively high inflation and interest rates in primary markets, and the negative effects of recent travel advisories, the Ministry of Tourism and its agencies continue to effect multipronged initiatives and actions to bolster growth.

Seiveright also noted that the world’s largest online travel agency, Expedia, recently cut 1,500 employees or nine per cent of its global staff due in part to slowing travel demand.

As it relates to most recent Level 3 US Travel advisory, Seiveright noted that Government at the very highest levels, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kamina Johnson-Smith, Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States, Audrey Marks and several other Government officials, private sector leaders and influential US citizens  have and continue to treat this very seriously.

“There have been multiple engagements with high ranking US officials across the State Department, Congress and so on. Several other countries impacted by similar negative travel advisories have raised concerns too.

“The Jamaica Tourist Board also continues to work around the clock with its global team including its public relations and advertising teams and international partners like airlines, tour operators, travel agents, hotels and other critical stakeholders to drive Jamaica’s tourism growth efforts despite the odds,” said Seiveright.

Wyndham Just Added New All-Inclusive Resorts in Jamaica

Marriott. Hyatt. Hilton. The biggest names in travel have all been making major moves in the all-inclusive space in the Caribbean, as travelers continue to demand the concept in their vacations.

You can add Wyndham to that list.

The travel giant has been quietly adding significantly to its Caribbean all-inclusive portfolio, with new hotels in places like the Dominican Republic, Curacao, Cancun and, more recently, Barbados ( with the long-awaited Sam Lord’s Castle resort ).

And Wyndham just added more resorts, thanks to a new alliance with longtime all-inclusive operator Decameron — an expansion that includes three resorts in Jamaica.

wyndham decameron

As part of the alliance, Wyndham now has three new properties in Jamaica: two under its relatively new Trademark brand and a third under its new Ramada All-Inclusive brand.

That includes the Grand Decameron Montego Beach, a Trademark All-Inclusive; Decameron Club Caribbean Runaway Bay, Ramada All-Inclusive; and Grand Decameron Cornwall Beach, a Trademark All-Inclusive.

So what do these resorts cost?

A sample itinerary for five days at the new Trademark All-Inclusive in Montego Bay priced out to about $223 per night, according to Wyndham’s Web site.

So what else do you need to know?

The alliance means Wyndham Rewards members now have the ability to use their points to stay at the aforementioned resorts — to the tune of as low as 15,000 points, according to a spokesperson for Wyndham.

cruise in jamaica

Cruises from Baltimore will resume later this month.

Royal Caribbean International’s Vision of the Seas will leave from the city on May 25. That will mark the first cruise ship to do so since the March collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge , the Port of Baltimore said in a Facebook post .

Vision of the Seas will sail a round-trip cruise to Bermuda, according to CruiseMapper . Royal Caribbean previously moved the ship’s operations to Norfolk, Virginia in the wake of the bridge collapse.

“Royal Caribbean International looks forward to returning to the Port of Baltimore once again,” a spokesperson told USA TODAY in an emailed statement. “Vision of the Seas will set sail on a 5-night itinerary as planned on Saturday, May 25 after completing its previously scheduled drydock in the Bahamas.”

Carnival Cruise Line also expects to return this month.

Carnival will embark guests on Carnival Pride’s May 19 cruise in Norfolk, but anticipates it will end the trip in Baltimore.

“We are encouraging our guests to register for our complimentary bus service between Baltimore and Norfolk for the sailing's embarkation,” spokesperson Matt Lupoli said in an emailed statement. “We remain in close contact with local, state and federal officials regarding the return of our operations at the Port of Baltimore.”

Royal Caribbean's Vision of the Seas will be first cruise to embark from Baltimore since Key Bridge collapse

By Adam Thompson

Updated on: May 16, 2024 / 11:28 PM EDT / CBS Baltimore

BALTIMORE - Royal Caribbean is getting ready to set sail out of the Port of Baltimore as the first cruise departure from the port since the March 26 Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse.

The Port of Baltimore announced that the Vision of the Seas, owned by Royal Caribbean, will embark on a five-night voyage on May 25 from Baltimore to Bermuda.

"Baltimore is back," the Port of Baltimore posted on social media.

Get ready…Port of Baltimore is ready to cruise once again! @RoyalCaribbean 's Vision of the Seas will depart on May 25 for a 5-night trip from Baltimore to Bermuda! This marks the 1st cruise leaving Baltimore since the bridge incident. Baltimore is back! https://t.co/XEguEqqTOR pic.twitter.com/v7dLcDpLmA — Port of Baltimore (@portofbalt) May 15, 2024

The cargo ship Dali crashed into Baltimore's bridge in late March, killing six construction workers, halting access to and from the Port of Baltimore and knocking down the entire bridge.

The Port of Baltimore services cruise ships from Royal Caribbean, Carnival and Norwegian.

In April, a Carnival cruise ship was expected to return to Baltimore, but after the Key Bridge collapse, it ported in Norfolk, Virginia.

Regina Ali, a spokesperson for AAA, was on that Carnival ship when the cargo ship caused the bridge collapse.

"I'm looking and I'm like, 'Wait a minute, this is in Maryland and it was so surreal,'" Ali said.

Since then, cruise ships originally slated for Baltimore took off and  returned in Norfolk.

Adam Thompson was raised in Ohio, but made stops in Virginia and North Carolina before landing in Maryland.
