Disney Cruise Line: Sailing from New York City

Sharing is caring!

disney cruise to new york

As a resident of the northeast, a Disney cruise adventure typically involves air travel.  My family was excited when DCL released itineraries that were leaving from New York City, eliminating that long day of airports and airplanes.   This is an overview of my experience, along with some helpful hints for anyone sailing from NYC.

Coupon image not uploaded

We boarded a train near home (Pennsylvania) that took us directly to Penn Station in New York City.  We arrived around 6pm on a Friday evening.  If you have ever been to Penn Station during rush hour on a Friday, you would understand how overwhelmed this country girl toting children and luggage was.  If you haven’t been there during rush hour, I would recommend that you select any other possible time for your arrival.  We had hoped to spend the evening exploring the city and possibly seeing a Broadway show, but after our initial welcome to the concrete jungle, we were happy to have a quiet evening in our hotel instead.

*Hint #1: If possible, do not arrive at Penn Station during rush hour.   * Hint #2: Make flexible plans. We were really glad we didn’t buy show tickets ahead of time. If you are set on seeing a show or seeing some of the sights, make sure you plan a couple of days before or after your cruise to do so.   On Saturday we woke up and requested that our hotel staff call a driver to take us to the port.

disney cruise to new york

*Hint #3: Don’t stress about getting around.   Throughout our stay in the city we used taxis, Uber, and private drivers.  All worked out to be about the same cost, so go with whatever is available.  With a group of 6 and all of our luggage, a private driver allowed us to all travel together in a larger vehicle.  With a taxi we had to split up between 2 cars, but the price for both taxis was the same as the price for the private car.

My children knew we were going to New York City, but I managed to keep the cruise a secret for over a year.  They thought DCL only sailed from Florida, so they had no clue. My 3 year old was the first to spy the “Mickey Boat” at the port, and the gig was up.  But we had more surprises in store – they still had no idea their 5 cousins would be joining us aboard!

disney cruise to new york

*Hint #4:  Address –  Disney departs from Pier 88 or Pier 90 at the Port of New York Manhattan Terminal:   12th Avenue at West 55th Street, New York, New York 10019

If you are driving to New York City, parking is available at the Manhattan Terminal between the Piers 88 and 90.

disney cruise to new york

*Hint #5: Allow extra travel time.   Although New York City moves at a faster pace, the traffic and crowds slow everything down.  Allow lots of travel time so that you don’t miss the boat.   Our driver dropped us off right at the bow of the ship.  Cast members were there to greet us and collect our luggage.

disney cruise to new york

*Hint #6: Make sure you have your luggage tags on your suitcases prior to arrival at the port .  There are porters taking luggage to many different ships from the drop-off area, and you don’t want your luggage to get on the wrong ship!

We kept our carry-ons with us and entered the port.  The first stop was security.  Lines were long, but they moved quickly.  Guests boarding several different cruise ships all went through the same port security lines.

Hint #7: If you are traveling with a large group, it might save time to split up between several different security lines and then meet up again once inside the port.

Hint #8: Make sure you keep all valuables and necessary paperwork for boarding in your carry-on.

After passing through security, Cast Members were available to direct guests to the proper check-in area. When we sailed, Disney was at the far end of the port, farthest from the security checkpoint.  There were several sets of bathrooms available, as well as a snack/drink kiosk. It was interesting to see the other cruise passengers waiting to board.  The energy level and fun factor was definitely much higher in the Disney boarding area.  I was glad that was my tribe!

Hint #9:  DCL is more fun!

In Disney’s designated area there were separate lines for new cruisers, silver castaway club members (if this is your 2nd to 5th cruise), gold castaway club members (if this is your 6th – 10th cruise), platinum castaway club members (for those passengers who are cruising for the 11th+ time) and concierge passengers.

Hint #10:  The Disney Cast Members are easily identifiable with their uniforms and name tags (and sometimes large Mickey hands!)  Don’t hesitate to ask questions, as they are both knowledgeable and helpful.

disney cruise to new york

After checking in, there was an opportunity to meet Goofy (the welcome character generally changes throughout the day, so you might find Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy… don’t worry if it isn’t your favorite character, you will have a chance to meet all of them on board).  The seating area was pretty full when we arrived, but there were plenty of seats outside of Disney’s designated area where we could still hear the boarding numbers being called.

Hint #11:  If you are traveling with a large group, it may be easier to find seating outside of the Disney check in area.  We were traveling with a group of 13, so just outside the Disney area in the port was a good meeting place for our families to gather.

disney cruise to new york

Once on board there were several characters available for meet and greets.  We were able to meet Pluto and Donald without any lines, as most people head straight to lunch after boarding.   This is also a great time to head up to Decks 9 and 10 to check out the city skyline.

disney cruise to new york

We enjoyed the lunch buffet at Cabana’s with an amazing view of New York City.

disney cruise to new york

Hint #12:  Check your navigator for details about which restaurants are serving and scheduled hours.  There will be several different dining options open when you board. Cabana’s is typically quite busy on embarkation day, but also offers the best city views.

disney cruise to new york

The sail away party started right after the mandatory muster drill. It was a nice welcome aboard, complete with music, dancing, and, of course, favorite Disney characters.

disney cruise to new york

On the port side of the ship there was a fantastic view of the New York City skyline as we departed.  Ship photographers were wandering around taking photos, so keep an eye out for them to capture some fun family pics.

disney cruise to new york

One thing we had most been looking forward to was sailing past the Statue of Liberty.  We were not disappointed and were greeted with a gorgeous sunset as we passed.

disney cruise to new york

Lady Liberty bid us a safe journey from the starboard side of the ship.  Deck 10 forward was a great place to capture some pictures.

disney cruise to new york

Hint #13:  Make sure you check out both sides of the ship during sail away, as views of both the New York skyline (port) and the Statue of Liberty (starboard) are spectacular.

disney cruise to new york

Our itinerary included several ports throughout Canada.  Select NYC sailings also include a celebration of the Marvel Heroes of New York (Black Panther, Iron Man, Spiderman), with special opportunities to meet these characters.

Hint #14: Check the “On Board Fun” opportunities on the DCL website when completing your online check-in for special ticketed meet and greet opportunities on your cruise.  These tickets do not have a fee, but they are limited.

disney cruise to new york

On disembarkation day, Lady Liberty welcomed us back along the port side of the ship.  There were quite a few guests up on Deck 10 to catch glimpses of the Statue of Liberty and skyline as we arrived back on land.  We sailed by Lady Liberty shortly after 5am (although that time could be drastically different based on itinerary and weather).

disney cruise to new york

Hint #15: Take your camera up to Deck 10 forward on disembarkation day to catch a few pictures of the Statue of Liberty in the night sky.

Sailing out of NYC provided new sites and experiences for even the seasoned DCL traveler.  Although I prefer a warmer, beachy experience, this was a bucket list item that I am fortunate to have been able to experience.

2 thoughts on “ Disney Cruise Line: Sailing from New York City ”

a question… do we check in for cruise at the manhattan cruise terminal (near pier 92/94) or at the actual pier that dcl docks at (pier 88/90)? trying to book a hotel that is walking distance and wondering if we should book near piers 88/90 or piers 92/94 thanks!!

I’ve cruised out of NYC as well. We also cruised out of the pier and we took an Uber that dropped us off at 88/90. So, I would say that’s the one you should aim to be near.

Disney Treasure to Visit New York In November

Disney Treasure

The Disney Treasure will set sail on its maiden voyage from Port Canaveral on December 21, 2024, but Port Canaveral will not be the first North American port that Disney’s newest ship will visit. The Disney Treasure is on the cruise schedule to visit New York City in November.

Disney Magic in New York City

It will be in port in New York City on November 17, 18, 19 and 20 , 2024 . It will likely be available for the Media and travel agencies to visit. We will also likely see Good Morning America broadcasting from the ship during this time.

New York Port Schedule

After The Treasure leaves New York, it will head to Port Canaveral for preview cruises for the media and travel agents. Before the Disney Wish sailed in 2022, Disney ran a contest for the public to win a cruise on one of the preview cruises. I will post the contest here when it is available to enter.

Disney Treasure Walt Disney Theatre

It is also a good sign that the maiden voyage will not be delayed , as it was with the Disney Wish. The Disney Wish is moving from Terminal 10 to Terminal 8 on November 15 to accommodate the Treasure.

If you are in New York, will you visit the port to see the Treasure? Keep up with the latest Disney Cruise news, and sign up for our newsletter.

Disney Cruises From New York: Where Do They Go?

There were four-, five-, and six-night Disney cruises departing from New York and visiting the ports of King’s Wharf, Bermuda, Tortola, British Virgin Islands, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Saint John, Canada.

Here are some details about the ports Disney cruises visited on their most recent New York departures.

About the King’s Wharf, Bermuda Disney Cruise Port

Bermuda’s largest cruise port, King’s Wharf, lies 650 miles off the North Carolina coast. It offers a diverse range of activities, from golfing and sailing to exploring historic sites, scenic beaches, and nature reserves. With a range of exciting Port Adventures, including scuba diving, fishing, and visiting iconic landmarks like Gibbs Hill Lighthouse, Royal Naval Dockyard, and St. Peter’s Church, King’s Wharf is a must-visit destination for any Disney cruise from New York.

About the Tortola, British Virgin Islands Disney Cruise Port

Known worldwide as a tropical paradise and a warm-weather retreat, Tortola is the largest and most populous of the British Virgin Islands. With its stunning white-sand bays, Tortola offers a range of water sports like surfing, dolphin swims, boating, and snorkeling, as well as ziplining, shopping, dining, and sightseeing. Visitors can explore notable attractions like Dolphin Discovery, Mount Healthy National Park, Sage Mountain National Park, Brewer’s Bay, and J.R. O’Neal Botanic Garden, making Tortola a must-visit port of call on any Disney cruise from New York.

About the San Juan, Puerto Rico Disney Cruise Port

San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a vibrant and historic port of call on Disney cruises, offering a rich blend of colonial charm and modern culture. Visitors can explore the old town of San Juan, including the famous El Morro fortress and the colorful streets of La Calle San Sebastian, or head to the beaches for a day of sun and fun. Among the options available from Port Adventures are scuba diving, a visit to the Bacardi distillery, and several sightseeing tours. Whether you’re interested in history, food, shopping, or simply soaking up the local atmosphere, the port of San Juan is a great place to visit on a Disney cruise.

About the Saint John, Canada Disney Cruise Port

Saint John, Canada, is an essential stop for Disney cruises departing from New York. The city’s bustling Market Square and Brunswick Square Shopping Centre offer plenty of shopping opportunities, while Barbour’s General Store provides a unique glimpse into the area’s 18th-century history. In addition to shopping, passengers can participate in Port Adventures, such as whale watching and kayaking, for a true taste of the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage.

Do Disney Cruises From New York Go to the Bahamas (Castaway Cay)?

Castaway Cay is a highly sought-after destination for Disney cruises. Unfortunately, the most recent round of Disney cruises from New York did not sail to Castaway Cay or elsewhere in the Bahamas . Instead, passengers on New York cruises could visit Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Eastern Canada.

Those interested in visiting the Bahamas or Castaway Cay – and flexible about their departure port – can take advantage of Disney cruise itineraries visiting Castaway Cay from other ports in 2024 . These include Disney cruises from the Port of Miami , Port Canaveral, Fort Lauderdale, and San Juan. The Vacationeer can help choose a departure date and offer some insider Castaway Cay tips to enhance your vacation.

Do Disney Cruises from New York go to Disney World?

Port Canaveral and Disney World have occasionally been featured destinations on Disney Cruises from New York, which meant vacationers didn’t have to chose between Disney World and a Disney Cruise for their vacations. As of the latest cruise announcement, there are currently no itineraries from New York that include a day at Disney World.

How Many Disney Cruises From New York Are There?

The most recent set of Disney cruises from New York included nine sailings from late September 2023 through early November 2023. The cruises departed from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal and ranged from 4 to 6 nights in length, visiting destinations such as Bermuda, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the British Virgin Islands. These sailings were part of five different itineraries available during Disney’s New York 2023cruise season.

How Long Are Disney’s New York Cruises?

Disney Cruise Line offered four-, five-, and six-night cruises from New York in 2023 (its most recent NYC cruise block), some visiting several ports and others just one. These cruises allowed guests to experience the magic of the sea and visit popular destinations in Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Eastern Canada, and the Eastern Caribbean.

For those new to cruising, a 4-day trip is a great way to acclimate to life onboard. However, experienced cruisers may prefer longer voyages with extended time at port and additional opportunities for magical experiences at sea.

How Much Do Disney Cruises From New York Cost?

Disney cruises departing from New York are a great option for a fun and unforgettable family vacation at sea. However, many people have concerns about affordability.

Based on pricing from the most recently-offered season (2023), the most inexpensive itinerary was a 4-Night Canada Cruise from New York, which starts at $2,498 for two people. The most expensive itinerary was a 6-Night Bermuda Cruise from New York, which starts at $3,531 for two people.

These were both Halloween on the High Seas cruises, offering festive holiday décor and activities for a memorable (and spooky) family vacation.

While some may worry about affordability, it is important to remember that the cost of a Disney cruise is all-inclusive. The stateroom, meals, and most entertainment, activities, and services are included in the price of a Disney cruise .

Furthermore, the pricing covers two people , making the per-person price much more reasonable. Overall, a Disney cruise offers exceptional value for your money.

Passengers sailing on the Disney Dream will enjoy premium entertainment such as Broadway-style performances, movie screenings, firework displays, and opportunities to interact with Disney characters.

Among the free activities for children and teenagers are the Oceaneer Club for ages 3-10, Edge for ages 11-14, and Vibe, a lounge for teens ages 14-17.

Adults can access nightclubs, live music lounges, fitness centers, and an adult-only pool.

The majority of these activities are offered at no extra cost!

As a bonus, Disney cruise prices include taxes, fees, and port expenses.

However, the base price of your Disney cruise may not cover some items and services, so you should expect to pay for these separately. These include airfare to and from the cruise departure city, gourmet dining at the adult-only Palo and Remy restaurants, tips and gratuities , spa treatments, shore excursions, bottled drinks, and alcohol .

Parking at Nearby Hotels

The Fairfield Inn & Suites North Bergen offers a convenient park & ride package for Disney cruisers. Book your stay at this hotel for a stress-free pre-cruise experience, including ten nights of parking and round-trip transportation to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. Enjoy a comfortable overnight stay with complimentary breakfast and Wi-Fi, and request a late check-out if needed. Located at 1707 69th Street in North Bergen, New Jersey, the hotel is approximately 7 miles from the Manhattan Cruise Terminal for Disney Cruise Line.

The Hilton Garden Inn Ridgefield Park previously offered park and cruise promotions, but these are not available right now. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many hotels suspended similar packages.

There are many hotels near the cruise terminal, but none offer cruise-specific packages. If you’re looking for alternatives, be sure to contact your Disney travel agent.

Airports for New York Cruises

Image of a jet parked at an airport terminal, with service vehicles and luggage bins nearby

The best way to reach the Port of New York is by flying into the city (unless you’re close enough to drive).

Which Airport Should I Fly Into for a New York Cruise?

For a Disney cruise in New York, you have several options for flying into the city. The three closest airports to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal are John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). Of the three, LaGuardia is the closest airport, located around 11 miles away, followed by Newark Liberty International at approximately 16 miles and JFK at about 19 miles.

The best airport for you will depend on various factors, including flight availability, cost, and personal preference. All three airports offer transportation options to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal, including taxis, ride-share services, shuttle buses, and car rentals.

What is the Best Way to Get to the Cruise Port From the Airport?

The best way to get from the airport to the Manhattan Cruise Port for a Disney cruise will depend on your personal preference and budget. Here are some options:

  • Disney Cruise Line Shuttle : Disney offers ground transportation from JFK and LaGuardia airports to the Manhattan Cruise Port. It is convenient but not always the best option if you arrive early in NYC.
  • Private Shuttle : Booking a private shuttle can offer door-to-door service and is often more readily available than Disney shuttles.
  • Car Rental : While renting a car is always an option, we strongly advise against it since it is expensive and unnecessary.
  • Taxis : Taxis are readily available at JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark airports, but the fare may be higher than ridesharing.
  • Ride-sharing Services (Uber, Lyft ): This is a budget-friendly option and provides a convenient way to get from the airport to the Manhattan Cruise Port.

The Disney Cruise Line shuttle is a great option for a seamless Disney experience, but we recommend Uber or Lyft if you want a hassle-free, inexpensive ride. You should weigh the cost, convenience, and level of comfort for each option to determine the best option for you.

How Much Does an Uber Cost From the Airport to Disney’s New York Terminal?

Uber’s price varies greatly based on the vehicle you choose and how far you travel. The following is an estimate of what an Uber ride will cost from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), LaGuardia Airport (LGA), and Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).

The estimated cost of an Uber from LGA to Disney’s Manhattan Cruise Terminal:

  • Uber X : $66.93
  • Uber XL : $75.71
  • Uber Black : $98.76

The estimated cost of an Uber from EWR to Disney’s Manhattan Cruise Terminal:

  • Uber X : $47.92
  • Uber XL : $56.91
  • Uber Black : $123.30

The estimated cost of an Uber from JFK to Disney’s Manhattan Cruise Terminal:

  • Uber X : $97.59
  • Uber XL : $112.75
  • Uber Black : $147.18

How Much Are Taxis From the Airport to Port of New York?

Taking a taxi is an easy and convenient alternative to ridesharing services like Uber. Our research indicates that they are also similarly priced to other comparable ridesharing options.

  • Taxis are estimated to cost $42.06 from LGA to Manhattan Cruise Terminal.
  • Taxis are estimated to cost $54.61 from EWR to Manhattan Cruise Terminal.
  • Taxis are estimated to cost $64.88 from JFK to Manhattan Cruise Terminal.

These estimates do not include tipping. As a result, you will have to adjust these estimates higher to account for tipping your Uber or taxi driver.

How Much Are Shuttles From the New York Airports to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal Hotels?

The cost of shuttles from the airport to the New York area hotels varies and can depend on several factors, such as the distance, the type of shuttle service, and the number of passengers. On average, shared shuttle prices can range from $35 to $50 per person. Shuttle service prices may change anytime, so it’s always a good idea to check with the shuttle provider for the most accurate information.

In most cases, shuttle prices are on a per-person basis, so it may be more cost-effective for larger groups to consider alternative options like Uber, Lyft, or a taxi. In addition, private sedans, SUVs, and minivans are available for airport transfers, but they will cost between $150 and $250.

Official Disney Ground Transfers (Shuttles From the Airport)

Guests of Disney Cruise Line can travel from JFK and LaGuardia airports to the Manhattan Cruise Port on private Disney ground transportation (shuttle). Your driver will assist you with your luggage.

Disney Cruise Line does not have a set price for their New York shuttle transfers. The cost will be determined during the booking process and will be based on your specific needs. Guests can arrange the transfer directly with Disney Cruise Line or work with a travel agent.

Unofficial Airport Shuttles

If you’re seeking an alternative to Disney’s ground transportation, several independent shuttle and limo services are available at JFK, LGA, and EWR airports. These third-party shuttle services can take you to your desired location at any time of the day or night. The Disney shuttle only runs during cruise days, so this is a great option if you plan to arrive or depart early or late from New York.

Listed below are some local third party transportation companies you might consider for transportation from the airport to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal.

  • Go Airlink Shuttle : Offers shared ride and private car services from JFK, LGA, and EWR to Manhattan.
  • SuperShuttle NYC : Provides shared ride and private van services from JFK and LGA to Manhattan.
  • Carmel Limo : Provides private car and limousine services from JFK, LGA, and EWR to Manhattan.
  • Dial 7 Car and Limousine Service : Offers private car and limousine services from JFK, LGA, and EWR to Manhattan.
  • Winston Transportation : Provides a range of sedans, SUVs, and private van transportation.

These companies provide reliable and affordable transportation options from the airport to the cruise terminal in Manhattan. Before booking, be sure to check their rates, availability, and customer reviews.

We recommend taking Disney’s official shuttle or an Uber to the Manhattan Cruise Terminal. However, you are free to choose whichever is most convenient for you. Contact a Disney travel agent to discuss your options and arrange ground transportation.

Disney New York Port Adventures

Why not take advantage of some great Disney Cruise Port Adventures during your pre or post cruise stay in New York?

You can see Disney’s Aladdin or The Lion King on Broadway as part of your experience. That would be a really magical way to start or finish your Disney Cruise experience.

Or if backstage passes are more your thing you might be interested in The New Amsterdam Behind the Magic Tour. Guests will experience a visit to the New Amsterdam Theatre in Times Square for an exclusive tour of Disney on Broadway’s flagship theatre.

You will get a look behind the scenes at some original costumes and props from past and current Disney Productions. I think that for $34 for adults and $29 for children this 1.5-hour tour is a not to be missed opportunity if you love musical theater.

King’s Wharf Bermuda on Disney Cruise

disney cruise to new york

The beautiful port of King’s Wharf Bermuda is offered on most of the Disney Magic New York Cruises. On select cruises there will be 2 port stops in King’s Wharf.

This beautiful island covers just 21 square miles and is a mix of British, American and West Indian influences.

There are over 40 different Port Adventures offered here, so there is something for everyone. Or if you want to explore by yourself, Bermuda is easy to explore by taxi or public transport.

The Bermuda Island Drive excursion at $109 for adults and $99 for children will take you on a tour of the highlights of the island. It is a great tour if this is your first visit. On this 5 hour tour you will visit Somerset Village, St. George and Hamilton

If you are curious about where the rich and famous live the Famous Homes and Hideaways Cruise is the one for you. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have a home here. The 2 hour cruise will take you to see Millionaire’s Row and the Gibbs Hill Lighthouse. It’s a relaxing way to spend a couple of hours.

If you want to snorkel there are a number of options including the Bermuda Triangle Shipwreck Snorkel. You will board a glass bottomed boat which will take you out to the site of several ship wrecks in the famous Bermuda Triangle! There are also several tours with Scuba diving so you can explore the beautiful reefs more closely.

A Private Pontoon Rental with Captain is also available. You may want to take up to 9 friends with you to spread the cost as this is $949, but for 4 hours we think this is pretty good value if you can get a group together.

If you are feeling creative you may want to try the Studio 8 Glass Class. Try your hand at the ancient art of glassblowing and make your own jewelry for a unique souvenir to take home with you.

Disney Cruise Tortola Port

disney cruise to new york

Tortola is the largest of the Virgin Islands. It is also one of the most beautiful, with incredible blue ocean and white sandy beaches.

The Disney Magic will arrive in Road Town and it is possible to explore here on your own. It is a good place to shop and walk around the streets soaking in the atmosphere and admiring the old colonial houses. Really though you should venture a little further and perhaps take a Port Adventure to explore.

Tortola by Land and Sea is a great way to see this spectacular island. This tour by boat and bus gives you a 4 hour overview of the island. You can take some amazing pictures from the top of the island looking down on the bay. This tour is $777 for adults and $60 for ages 0 to 9.

Tortola is known as the sailing capital of the Caribbean so you should take the chance to find out exactly why on a water based excursion.

Treasure Island Swim & Snorkel is a 4-hour excursion that takes you on the 57-foot catamaran Rebel Yell. sail across the Sir Francis Drake Channel to a wonderful snorkel site.

DCL March 2019 Tortola Underwater-236.jpg

You will enjoy about an hour to snorkel in these incredibly clear waters. The cost is $79 for all ages with a minimum age of 8 to enjoy this Port Adventure.

If fishing is your thing you may want to join this Private Virgin Islands Fishing Adventure. You may want to get together with a larger group though as this one is $3699 for up to 7 guests. This gets you 2 hours and 15 minutes to fish on a fully customized 46-foot Jarrett Bay fishing boat.

Always wanted to try ziplining? Now is your chance with the Canopy Tour Zipline and Scenic Drive. You will be taken by bus right to the top of the ilsnad so you will be able to enjoy spectacular views. Then experience 7 amazing traverses and 1 tower climb on your zip line adventure. Cruise ship docks at New York City port with 44-foot dead endangered whale caught on its bow

Travelers on a cruise ship bound for New England and Canadian ports had to stop at a port in New York City after a 44-foot endangered whale was discovered lying dead across its bow.

A spokesperson for MSC Cruises said the whale was on the MSC Meraviglia, which docked at the Port of Brooklyn before sailing to its next destination.

"We can confirm with deep regret that on Saturday a whale was discovered on the bow of our ship as the vessel approached the port of New York, Sidney Sterling, director of media relations for MSC Cruises told Fox News Digital. "We immediately notified the relevant authorities, who are now conducting an examination of the whale."

The whale, identified as an endangered sei whale, was caught on the ship's bow when it arrived in Brooklyn on Saturday, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration fisheries spokesperson Andrea Gomez said.

CARNIVAL CRUISE PASSENGERS AIRLIFTED BY AIR FORCE IN DRAMATIC RESCUE

"Sei whales are endangered, and are typically observed in deeper waters far from the coastline. NOAA’s Office of Law Enforcement is investigating this incident," Gomez said.

Gomez continued, saying that the whale was relocated and towed to shore at Sandy Hook, New Jersey, to allow for better access to heavy equipment and resources to conduct a necropsy examination, which is an autopsy for animals.

DISNEY CRUISE LINE PASSENGER RESCUED BY US COAST GUARD AFTER EMERGENCY OFF PUERTO RICO

"The right flipper had broken bones, and there was evidence of tissue trauma along the right shoulder blade region," Gomez said.

Gomez said the tissue and bone samples collected during the examination will help biologists determine if the cruise ship hit the whale when it was still alive or if it was already dead.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of any marine life. We have comprehensive measures in place to help avoid collisions, such as training all our deck officers with the Ocean Research & Conservation Association (ORCA) and we follow regulations designed to protect whales and other marine life," Sterling said. "This includes altering itineraries in certain regions to avoid whales and we will continue to evaluate and update our procedures with our partners and the authorities."

Is a Disney cruise for adults? Here are 5 reasons why I say yes

Ashley Kosciolek

Gourmet French dinners, $5,000 cocktail experiences , serene infinity pools and penthouse suites that cost thousands of dollars a night might not be the first thing you think of when someone mentions a Disney cruise. But you'll find it all on Disney ships.

I sailed with the line for the first time more than a decade ago, and I didn't want to take the assignment. I'm a child-free adult, I'm not a particularly over-the-top Disney fan, and all I could imagine was a theme park at sea — characters everywhere, souvenir shops galore and, of course, tons of kids.

Simply, I was wrong.

disney cruise to new york

What I found was an absolutely wonderful experience on an elegant ship with superb service, phenomenal entertainment, delicious food and just enough subtle magic to instill a bit of childlike wonder without making me feel immature.

Disney Cruise Line has maintained its four older ships exceptionally well, and its newest vessel, Disney Wish — its first new-build in 10 years — is also pretty great. Across the board, my opinion still stands: Disney cruises aren't just for kids. So, if you're trying to find a Disney cruise for adults, don't worry — they all fit the bill. Here are five reasons why you'll love the experience, even as a grownup.

For more cruise news, guides and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

You control how 'Disney' you want it to be

disney cruise to new york

Let me allay your fears: When you sail with Disney, you won't be overwhelmed by Mickey and friends the way you might be at the brand's land-based amusement parks. However, that experience is available should you choose to seek it.

The subtlety with which Disney manages to incorporate branded touches on its ships is commendable and classy. You'll find nods to various Disney animated movie classics as you move between decks — a pumpkin on the carpet here, a snowflake on the wall there — but you're likely to find it more tasteful than obnoxious.

If you'd like to avoid a largely Disney-fied ambience, it's easy to do. If, instead, you prefer a more immersive cruise, you're also in luck, as the ships host scheduled character meet-and-greets, themed dining experiences and more.

There are tons of adults-only spaces

disney cruise to new york

Grownups who wish to keep strictly to an older crowd will love the adults-only venues on all Disney ships.

On Disney's four older vessels — Disney Dream , Disney Fantasy (which is my pick for the best Disney cruise ship for adults ), Disney Wonder and Disney Magic — adults-only bars and nightclubs are clustered into one area, known as The District. After 9 p.m., nobody younger than 18 is permitted inside, allowing the more mature set to let its hair down sans kids.

On Disney Wish, the age-limited spaces are more spread out, a purposeful layout designed to help alleviate crowding and improve traffic flow. Personally, I prefer The District's setup, but the watering holes on the new ship are, frankly, the most impressive in the fleet to date.

What's impressive about these offerings is that most other ships don't have them. Apart from Virgin Voyages , Viking , P&O Cruises and Saga Cruises, all of which sail adults-only vessels , the most other lines offer is an adults-only sun deck or pool here and there. Even where those areas exist, age limits aren't always strictly enforced, and sometimes you have to pay for access, none of which is the case on Disney ships.

Even the least expensive accommodations are elevated

disney cruise to new york

Disney cruises are a cut above the sailings you'll find with most other mainstream lines. When it comes to accommodations, even the most basic feel elevated. All have two bathrooms; one has a shower with a tub (rare on cruise ships) and a sink, and the other has a toilet and a sink.

Disney provides its own brand of toiletries in cabin bathrooms. The products are so popular — they smell divine — that the line sells them in its onboard gift shops.

All rooms also offer a dividing curtain that creates two separate areas. Although these features were designed with families in mind, they're also convenient for friends traveling together, adding to the argument that a Disney cruise could make for a perfect girlfriends getaway.

disney cruise to new york

On the high end, the line sells a variety of suite accommodations. New on Disney Wish, the Tower Suite is the most coveted and most expensive, carrying a price tag of several thousand dollars per night.

Located in the ship's fake funnel, the suite is two decks high and includes three bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths and a large living room area. Its understated nautical decor pays subtle tribute to "Moana." Unfortunately, because of the layout, there's no balcony, but you'll still be spoiled beyond belief if you book a stay there.

You can also choose to book concierge-level staterooms , which offer perks like priority boarding and disembarkation, access to a dedicated lounge with free drinks in the evenings and dibs on booking the best spa appointments and shore excursions.

Delicious dining options range from basic to gourmet

Disney Cruise Line's dining options allow you to either join the masses (where there will be children, so take heed) in the free dining rooms, head to the buffet or open-air food court, or opt for an adults-only added-fee option.

On all of the fleet's ships, standard dining is rotational, which means you'll move to a different main dining room each night but with the same table number, tablemates and waitstaff.

In my experience, dining across the board on Disney ships has been absolutely scrumptious and well prepared, regardless of where I chose to eat and how much extra I paid.

disney cruise to new york

On Disney Wish, 1923 is a throwback to the golden age of animation. Split into two parts, it offers a more intimate setting than what you'd find at Royal Court, the more understated free dining venue on the line's other vessels.

disney cruise to new york

For more immersive and somewhat gimmicky meals that are fun but often loud, adult passengers on Disney Wish will want to check out Worlds of Marvel and Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure . The former brings Ant-Man and The Wasp tableside (via prerecorded broadcast) to show off their new discovery — a Quantum Core, with which Ant-Man unwittingly shrinks the ship down to the size of a toy boat. During the latter, you'll find much singing and dancing to celebrate the engagement of Anna and Kristoff, two of the main characters from "Frozen." In line with the theme, the menu is largely Norwegian.

On the four original ships, immersive options include Animator's Palate, where "Finding Nemo" characters talk with you as you eat; Enchanted Garden, which feels a bit like a scene from "Alice in Wonderland," where you can watch as the scenery slowly turns from day to night; and Rapunzel's Royal Table, where characters from "Tangled" make an appearance.

disney cruise to new york

Also on the original vessels, Palo is an adults-only Italian eatery . On Disney Wish, it has been transformed into an elegantly styled steakhouse that exudes "Beauty and the Beast" vibes. This is the perfect option for anyone who wants something less casual than the buffet but also wants to avoid crowds and noise in the main dining rooms without paying a fortune.

Before you go in, stop at The Rose bar, which is perfect for tasty pre-dinner cocktails.

disney cruise to new york

Enchante and Remy are two of the most expensive alternative dining options at sea for any cruise line. Both feature French cuisine and are reserved exclusively for adult diners. The latter appears on older DCL ships and was inspired by (and named after the main character in) "Ratatouille."

Enchante is new as of the debut of Disney Wish. It offers a completely revamped menu by chef Arnaud Lallement, who's also the mastermind behind the menu at Remy. Enchante allows for a la carte dining, or you can choose from one of two experiences: Passion, a seven-course meal for $125, or Collection, a selection of surprise courses curated by the chef for $195. (Wine and Champagne pairings cost extra.)

The kids clubs are fantastic

disney cruise to new york

"But, wait," you're thinking. "I thought this was an article about why Disney Cruises are great for adults." You're exactly right, and that's why this one is so important.

The Oceaneer Club offerings on Disney ships are so fun, engaging and technologically advanced that kids often don't want to leave. So, whether you're a parent looking for some downtime or a child-free adult who doesn't appreciate little ones pushing all the elevator buttons or teens clogging up stairwells, you won't have to worry about a barrage of younger passengers.

From babysitting for infants, kids and tweens to phenomenal play areas (think: themes like princesses, Marvel superheroes and "Star Wars"), the line's childcare services are a cut above those provided by all other cruise brands. In fact, they're so cool you'll wish you could spend time there yourself — and you can during designated hours on each voyage.

Bottom line

Although you won't be able to completely avoid children on Disney ships, you can still enjoy the magic of The Mouse in several adults-only spaces found on all of the line's ships. The onboard experience will make you feel like a kid again but in luxurious surroundings and with the excellent service and attention to detail that have become hallmarks of the Disney brand.

The father whose son died days after he allegedly forced the boy to run at high speeds on a treadmill callously left the room while medics were struggling to revive the youngster, according to testimony from his New Jersey murder trial.

Christopher Gregor, 31, allegedly walked out of the emergency room as nurses were scrambling to keep his son Corey Micciolo alive — leaving the then-6-year-old to die in the company of strangers rather than a family member.

“We were the only ones with him,” testified Lindsay Carnevale, a nurse at the Southern Ocean County Medical Center who helped treat little Corey when he was brought in on the afternoon of April 2, 2021.

Christopher Gregor, 31, is accused of abusing and murdering his 6-year-old son in 2021

The boy had woken that day with slurred speech, trouble breathing and nausea, and by the time his father brought him to the hospital at nearly 4 p.m., doctors determined the child needed to be intubated.

Carnevale testified that Gregor was emotionless when he brought Corey in, according to the Asbury Park Press , and that he left the boy for a period before briefly returning and then finally walking out again moments later.

Corey was pronounced dead at 5:02 p.m., and less than 20 minutes later, surveillance footage showed his father driving away from the hospital.

Corey was forced to run on an overspeed treadmill until he fell numerous times

Just over a week before Corey was brought to the hospital, his father had forced him to run on a treadmill at a local gym and turned up the speed until the boy was sent sprawling to the ground, disturbing video showed.

Gregor then picked his son back up and set him on the machine until he fell again several more times.

Days later, Corey’s mother Bre Micciolo reported injuries the child sustained in the incident to the New Jersey Division of Child Protection and Permanency, and the boy was taken to a hospital on April 1.

The treadmill incident took place just over a week before Corey wound up dead from a seizure at a hospital

During that visit, Corey allegedly told doctors his father had forced him to run on the treadmill because he “was too fat.”

The next day, he was brought to the hospital again after waking up with frightening symptoms and suffered a seizure during a CT scan and died as staff tried to save him.

An autopsy ruled Corey’s death a homicide after it was determined he suffered blunt force trauma to his chest and abdomen, lacerations and contusions to both his liver and heart, and indications of chronic abuse.

Gregor faces 30 years to life in prison if he is convicted of murder.
