Islam is a comprehensive religion that covers all spheres of life. In addition to the five obligatory prayers, Allah has commanded us to seek His blessings and guidance before undertaking any action. For instance, we must seek Allah’s protection from any harm during travelling by reciting Dua for Travelling .

Whether we travel by car, train, or airplane, we must recite certain Duas before starting our journey . Of course, we plan ahead of time, but no one is certain how our plan progresses or ends. Therefore, Muslims must seek Allah’s direction and assistance to reach their destinations safely and return home to their family. While you do so, opt for Dua Travels to maximize your experience.

Islam allows all Muslims to travel when the intentions are for the right purpose. While reciting  Dua for travelling , Muslims must firmly believe in Allah (SWT) and His blessings. He is the only one who has the power to protect us from unfortunate events like accidents and the harm of travelling. Let us explore some of the most beneficial as we must recite before and during the journey.

What Does the Holy Quran Say about Travelling?

Holy Quran, the sacred scripture, is the book of wisdom that teaches man the purpose of life and guides Muslims on the right way to lead their lives. The Islamic Holy Book covers all aspects of life and directs Muslims to success in this world and hereafter. According to the Quran, this world is temporary, and human beings are in a constant state of Travel. However, Allah (SWT) also mentions physical travelling several times.

In the Quran, ‘sayyir’ refers to the one who travels. The word sayir literally means to move or travel. Allah (SWT) used this word 27 times in the Quran in several expressions, including “Do Travel,” “Do they not Travel,” and “Tell them to Travel.”

Do they then not travel through the Earth, so that their minds gain wisdom and their ears thus learn to hear? 22:46

The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also emphasized travelling. He told the believers that travelling is a great way to expand their horizons and seek knowledge. In one instance, he said

“Keep  to  travelling by night  because the earth is folded (traversed more easily) during the  night .” [Abu Dawud].

Dua Before Travelling

Shariah recommends to off 2 rakaat nawafil before starting travel. It is because the Holy Prophet (PBUH) performed this task before going on any journey. You can get the confirmation of this practice from the following hadith.

Dua Before Travelling

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evil. When you enter your home, perform another two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evil.”

(Musnad Al-Bazzar)

O Allah I seek refuge in You from the hardships of travel, a sight of grief, and from an unfortunate occurrence in wealth and family.

O Allah! Behold I ask You the good through Your Knowledge, and ability through Your Power, and beg (Your favor) out of Your infinite Bounty. For surely You have Power; I have none. You know all; I know not. You are the Great Knower of all things.  O Allah! If in Your Knowledge this matter be good for my faith (Deen), for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then ordain it for me, and make it easy for me, and bless me therein. But if in Your Knowledge, this matter be bad for my faith (Deen), for my livelihood, and for the consequences of my affairs, then turn it away from me, and turn me away there from, and ordain for me the good wherever it be, and cause me to be pleased therewith.

رَّبِّ أَنزِلْنِى مُنزَلًا مُّبَارَكًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ

Transliteration: Rabbi anzilnī munzalān mubārakān wa anta khayru-l-munzilīn.

Meaning: O Allah, let me disembark with a blessed disembarking, and You are the best of those who cause to disembark.

[Al-Quran, Sura Al-Mu’minun, 23: 29]

Supplication Before Entering Your Place

Suhaib (RA) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ would say upon looking at the place (town/village) he wishes to enter:

Transliteration: Allahumma rabbas samawatis sab’i wa ma azlalna, wa rabbal ardinas sab’i wa ma aqlalna, wa rabbash-shayatini wa ma adlalna, wa rabbar riyahi wa ma zaraina, as’aluka khaira hadzihil qaryah wa khaira ahliha, wa khaira ma fiha, wa a’udzubika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.

Meaning: O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they envelope, Lord of the seven earths and all that they carry, Lord of the devils and all whom they misguide, Lord of the winds and all whom they whisk away. I ask You for the goodness of this village, the goodness of its inhabitants, and for all the goodness found within it, and I take refuge with You from the evil of this village, the evil of its inhabitants, and from all the evil found within it.

Supplication Upon Returning Home

آيبونَ تائبونَ عابدونَ لربِّنا حامِدون

Transliteration: Ayibun, ta’ibun, ‘abidun, liRabbina hamidun

Meaning: We return, in repentant, worshipping, and praising our Lord

Dhikr of Return from Travel

When the Prophet ﷺ returned from a battle or Hajj, he used to say three times:

Then he ﷺ said,

Transliteration: La ila-ha illallah-hu wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu, wahua ‘ala kulli shai’in qadir, a-ibuna, ta-ibuna, ‘a-biduna, li rabbina ha-midoon. Sadaqballa-hu wa’dahu, wa nasara ‘abdahu wa hazamal ahzaba wahdahu

Meaning: There is no God except Allah alone, He has no partner; His is the kingdom, all the praise; And He has power over all things. We are returners, penitents, worshipers and praisers of our Lord. Allah has fulfilled His promise, He has helped His servants, and He alone has defeated all the opposing factions.

[Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim]

Prayer Upon Returning Home

After returning home, it’s Sunnah to pray two raka’h Salah.

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’h and this will safeguard you against evil. When you enter your home, perform another two raka’h and this will safeguard you against evil.” [Musnad Al-Bazzar]

Travelling is a necessary part of life. As Muslims, we should follow the Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ during Safar. You may be confused to see lots of dua in the list. Actually, Allah’s Messenger ﷺ used to say different dua during travelling. But you can start with some basic ones. And try to memorize and practice more duas as much as you can. May Allah makes our journeys safer, Ameen.

Five Powerful Duas and Prayers for Traveling

Prayers for Traveling

Last updated on November 17th, 2021 at 08:40 am

Have you ever found yourself on the plane ready to take off, but unable to find your booklet of prayers for traveling? Often we find ourselves without access to these special duas or prayers when we need them the most. In our opinion, memorizing duas is the best solution.

One of the beautiful things about Islam is that there is a prayer for our normal daily activities and even prayers for traveling abroad .  When we embark on a journey, we should recite a prayer to Allah and remember Him. It brings us closer to Allah and also saves us from any untoward incident that may take place on our journey.

As per Islamic teachings, reciting a dua not only brings Allah’s protection; it also mobilizes angels to protect us during our journey and bring us safely back home to our loved ones.

Below are the five common duas that Muslims recite before journeys, complete with Arabic verse, dua transliteration, source, and explanation.

1. Prayer for Safety When Embarking on Travel

  • Arabic Verse: وَقُل رَّبِّ أَنزِلْنِى مُنزَلًا مُّبَارَكًا وَأَنتَ خَيْرُ ٱلْمُنزِلِينَ
  • Dua Transliteration: Rabbi anzilni munzalan mubarokan wa anta khairul munzilin
  • English Translation: My Lord, let me land at a blessed landing-place, and You are the best to accommodate [us].
  • Source: Surah Al Muminun ayat 29

When embarking on travel, this dua is recited to protect oneself from any mishap and to ensure a safe landing. When you recite this dua, you will feel calmer and less anxious about your upcoming trip.

It is always helpful to start a journey by remembering Allah. This prayer is useful to keep with you whenever you are packing for your trip so that you can easily recite it once you leave your home or on the plane.

This prayer asks Allah to protect us when traveling abroad . It also helps us proclaim our faith and affirm the fact that there is no one that can protect us except Allah.

2. Prayer for Safety During the Trip

  • Arabic Verse:
  • English Translation: Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord, we shall return.
  • Source: Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14

This excerpt from Surah Az-Zukhruf is a masnoon prayer that thanks Allah for providing us with the means of transportation to make our journey. This dua is short and can be easily memorized so that it becomes a habit to recite it when on a journey.

The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) recited this Surah as dua when he would mount an animal for traveling . He would say Bismillah and then recite this prayer for travel safety . We may be traveling by car, plane, train, or boat; whatever the means of transportation is, it is always important to remember Allah during our journey.

3. Prayer for Traveling to a New Place

  • Arabic Verse:
  • Dua Transliteration: Wa-qul Rabbi Adkhilnee Mudkhala S’idqiw Wa Akhrijnee Mukhraja S’diqiw Waj-a’l Lee Mil Ladunkaa Sult’aanan Nas’eeraa
  • English Translation: O Lord, cause me to enter a goodly entrance and cause me to go out a goodly exit, and grant me from you an authority to assist (me).
  • Source: Sura Al-‘Isra 17:80

The prophet (ﷺ) was in Makkah and had to emigrate to Madinah when Allah revealed this verse. The Holy Prophet (ﷺ) was being attacked by individuals in Makkah and was preparing to enter a new place.

This verse asks for Allah’s protection when taking a big decision and traveling to a new place. This decision could be anything from moving to a new city to even moving to a new home. In this prayer, we are asking Allah to bless our entrance and exit. We are looking for His assistance and blessing while we take this decision.

4. Prayer upon Reaching Destination Safely

  • Arabic Verse: وَقَالَ ارْكَبُواْ فِيهَا بِسْمِ اللّهِ مَجْرَاهَا وَمُرْسَاهَا إِنَّ رَبِّي لَغَفُورٌ رَّحِيمٌ
  • Dua Transliteration: Va kealarkaboo feehea bismilleahi macreahea va murseahea, inna raabbee la gaafoorun raaheem
  • English Translation: Embark there in! In the name of Allah be its course or its mooring. Lo! My Lord is Forgiving and Merciful!
  • Source: Surah Al-Hud – 11:41

This verse is from Sura Hud, which relays the trials and tribulations of Prophet Noah allehisalam. Prophet Noah was commanded by Allah to create a ship and load it with two creatures (male and female) of every living thing that had a soul.

When the command came to leave on the ship, a strong storm came that brought heavy rainfall. This verse was then revealed at that time and means that the moving course and resting (anchorage) of the ship will be all in Allah’s hands.

This is a specific verse in the Surah and is often used when someone reaches their destination safely. It is a small and short prayer that can be memorized easily when traveling abroad and after you have reached your destination.

5. Prayer Upon Returning Home

  • Arabic Verse: آيِبُونَ تَائِبُونَ عابِدُونَ ساجِدُونَ لِرَبِّنَا حَامِدُونَ
  • Dua Transliteration: Ayibun, ta’ibun, ‘abidun, sajidun, lirabbina hamidun
  • English Translation: We return, repentant, worshipping, prostrating, and praising our Lord.
  • Source: Sahih al-Bukhari 3084

This short prayer for travel safety is part of a longer verse that the Holy Prophet would recite upon returning from his journeys. After he came back from a journey, he would say Allah u Akbar three times and then recite this dua.

It is important not to forget Allah once we have returned safely to our homes. Often we only remember Allah when we are starting our journey or when we are in the process of traveling. But we should be grateful to Allah once we return safe and sound.

This dua only has a few words and can be easily learned by heart so that you can recite it quickly once you return home safely after traveling abroad.

Now You Know the 5 Powerful Duas and Prayers for Traveling

We can see that all of the prayers for traveling safety are not very long and can be remembered very easily. One should understand that when you are traveling, you are putting yourself in the trust of Allah and his powers.

Only Allah can decide what our fate is, but by saying prayers before we start our journey, during the journey, and when we reach home, we are affirming the fact that we believe in Allah’s power to protect us from harm.

O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor over the family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the difficulties of travel, from having an unpleasant sight, and from harmful consequences in my wealth and family.”

Understanding the Essence of Dua When Traveling

In Islam, dua is an integral part of our relationship with Allah. It is a way to communicate our hopes, fears, and desires, seeking His guidance and blessings in all aspects of life. Dua is a reflection of our faith, humility, and trust in the Divine. When we make dua, we acknowledge our dependence on Allah and His control over every aspect of our lives. Through dua, we establish a profound connection with our Creator, finding solace and strength in His infinite mercy.

Dua Before the Journey

Embarking on a journey is an exciting yet uncertain time. Before setting foot outside our homes, it is crucial to seek Allah’s protection and blessings. As the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever leaves his home, and says: ‘In the name of Allah, I trust in Allah, there is no might nor power except with Allah,’ it will be said to him: ‘You have been guided, defended, and protected,’ and the devil will go far away from him” (Sunan Abu Dawood).

In preparation for your journey, take a moment to make dua. Seek Allah’s protection from all potential hardships and calamities that may come your way. Offer supplications for a smooth and safe journey, accompanied by His divine mercy. By starting your travels with the remembrance of Allah, you invoke His blessings and pave the way for a secure expedition.

Dua During the Journey

As you embark on your journey, the significance of dua remains steadfast. Each step, whether on land, air, or sea, presents unique challenges and unforeseen circumstances. In these moments, turning to Allah through dua provides us with tranquility and assurance. We implore His protection, guidance, and assistance, understanding that our safety lies solely in His hands.

During the journey, offer prayers specific to each stage, seeking Allah’s safeguarding grace. Whether you’re boarding a plane, driving on a busy highway, or navigating through unfamiliar terrain, take a moment to recite supplications tailored to your circumstances. These prayers become a shield against accidents, discomfort, and any potential harm. By placing your trust in Allah and making dua, you invite His divine intervention, transforming your journey into a blessed and secure experience.

Dua Upon Arrival

Upon reaching your destination, express your gratitude to Allah for His protection and guidance. Offer prayers of thanksgiving, recognizing that your safe arrival is a testament to His mercy and benevolence. At this juncture, take a moment to make dua for a blessed stay and positive experiences throughout your journey. Seek His blessings in exploring new places, meeting new people, and gaining valuable insights from your travels.

Remember, dua is not limited to seeking protection from harm; it is also about seeking blessings, prosperity, and spiritual growth. Embrace the opportunity to connect with Allah, for He is ever-ready to respond to your heartfelt supplications.

Can dua change the course of my journey?

While we ultimately rely on Allah’s divine decree, dua has the power to invoke His intervention and influence the outcome of our journey. It instills within us a sense of tranquility, strengthens our faith, and aligns our actions with His guidance.

Are there specific duas for different modes of travel?

Yes, there are supplications and prayers tailored to various forms of travel. These include prayers for boarding a plane, driving, sailing, or any other mode of transportation. These specific duas ensure that we seek Allah’s protection and blessings throughout the journey.

In the realm of travel, dua serves as a faithful companion, offering solace, protection, and blessings. By understanding the essence of dua, making supplications before, during, and after the journey, and expressing gratitude upon arrival, we infuse our travels with spirituality and divine guidance. Embrace the power of dua, for it is an integral part of our faith and an ever-present source of strength. Let your journey be safe, blessed, and filled with the mercy of Allah, knowing that you are under His watchful care.

As we embark on our travels, may we always remember the profound impact dua can have on our journeys, both in this world and the next.

Dua for Travelling

Prophet Muhammad (saw) used to say Bismillah when he would mount on an animal for travelling. He then recited the following verse of the Quran:

Transliteration: Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun.

Meaning: Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord we shall return. Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14

Thereafter, he recited Alhamdulillah (all praises be to Allah) 3 times and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest) 3 times. He then recited the following dua:

After reciting the above dua, he used to look at the sky and smile. When his companion asked him why he smiles after reciting this dua, he informed them that Allah becomes happy with the person who recites this dua so the prophet smiled to express his happiness as well. (Mishkaat)

It is advisable to say takbeer (Allahu Akbar) when going upward during a journey and saying SubhanAllah when descending. Al-Bukhari narrated in his Saheeh that Jabir ibn ‘Abd-Allah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When we went up we would say takbeer (Allahu Akbar) and when we went down we would say tasbeeh (Subhan Allah).

Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.)’s blessed habit was to return from a journey during chasth time (before noon) within the city. He would first go to the Masjid, perform two rakaats Salaats. Thereafter he would stay in the Masjid for a little while and then go home. (Bukhari, Muslim)

Prophet Mohammad (S.A.W.) loved to journey on Thursdays. (Bukhari)

When the prophet would return back from a journey, he recited the following dua:

Transliteration: Ayiboona taiboona ‘abidoona li rabbina hamidoon.

Meaning: “Returning, repenting, worshipping and praising our Lord).” (Sahih Muslim)

“Subhanal-ladhi sakh-khara lana hadha, wa ma kunna lahu muqrinin, wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqalibun. Allahumma inna nas’aluka fi safarina hadh al-birra wat-taqwa, wa minal-‘amali ma tarda. What Does Allah Say About Travelling?

dua for travel arabic

The Holy Quran is the religious book of Islam and is considered the ultimate guide for Muslims. In the Holy Quran, Allah (SWT) describes our life as a journey, with ignorance and knowledge being analogous to the dark and light on the way, respectively.  The Quran has numerous references for Muslims to follow in order to go through a better worldly yet spiritual journey. However, in several places, Allah (SWT) has placed special emphasis on the significance of physical travel.

In the Quran, the word “saiyr” is used to refer to a traveller. The literal meaning of saiyr is to travel or move; for example; the planets are called sayyarah. The term saiyr appears in the Holy Quran 27 times. In most places, it’s used in the formulation of “Tell them to travel,” “Do they not travel,” or “Do travel.”

On the significance of travelling in Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the One who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler. (al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih)

Duas for Travelling in a Car

To protect yourself and your travel companions it is recommended by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to recite the following Surah, with a wish to have a safe and blessed journey:

“With the Name of Allah. Praise is to Allah. Glory is to Him Who has provided this for us though we could never have had it by our efforts. Surely, unto our Lord, we are returning. Praise is to Allah . Praise is to Allah. Praise is to Allah. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Allah is the Most Great. Glory is to You. O Allah, I have wronged my own soul. Forgive me, for surely none forgives sins but You.” (Abu Dawud 3/34, At-Tirmidhi 5/501)

In general, having been often mentioned in the Quran, travelling  is a way to achieve insight and wisdom by broadening an individual’s horizons and potential

Duas for Travelling on Plane

Travelling is viewed as a good deed in Islam. this is mainly because in Islam, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his Ummah succeeded in spreading Islam through exploration and travelling. The act of travelling also strengthens our belief, aboutwhich Allah (SWT) says in the Quran: “Say (O Muhammad): ‘ Travel through the earth and see how Allah did originate creation.'” (Surah Al-Ankabut, Verse 20)

Therefore, following the Sunnah – acts of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) – it is advised that every Muslim should follow the exemplary Adab (etiquette) mentioned below, while travelling out of the city or country:

  • Dua When You Leave the House | Praying 2 Raka’at of Sunnah

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), on the adab of leaving your house for travelling , stated: “When you leave your house, perform two raka’at, and this will safeguard you against evils. When you return home, perform another two raka’at, and this will safeguard you against evils.” (Hadith reported by Al-Bazzar and al-Bayhaqi)

Furthermore, in “Al-Majmu,” Imam An-Nawawi mentions that while performing the two raka’at , in the first raka’at, one should recite Surah Al-Kafirun after Surah Al-Fatiahah. However, in the second raka’at, one should recite Surah Ikhlas after Surah Al-Fatihah.

“Bismillah, tawakkaltu ‘alallah, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah”

“In the name of Allah and all praise is for Allah. How perfect He is, the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service, and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our Lord is our final destiny.”

  • Dua When You Arrive at Your Destination | Enter a New Country or City

According to the narration of Suhaib (RA), Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) would recite the following verse when he looked at the town that he wished to enter:

“Allahumma rabbas samawatis sab’i wa ma azlalna, wa rabbal ardinas sab’i wa ma aqlalna, wa rabbash-shayatini wa ma adlalna, wa rabbar riyahi wa ma zaraina, as’aluka khaira hadzihil qaryah wa khaira ahliha, wa khaira ma fiha, wa a’udzubika min sharriha wa sharri ahliha, wa sharri ma fiha.”

“O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and all that they envelop, Lord of the seven earths and all that they carry, Lord of the devils and all whom they misguide, Lord of the winds and all whom they whisk away. I ask You for the goodness of this village, the goodness of its inhabitants, and for all the goodness found within it, and I take refuge with You from the evil of this village, the evil of its inhabitants, and from all the evil found within it.”

(Hadith reported by An-Nasa’i and Al-Hakim)

  • Dua Upon Entering the Place to Stay (Hotel)

When entering a hotel, people are usually unknown to the history of their place of stay. Therefore, to safeguard themselves from all possible hazards and accidents, it is recommended by Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to recite the following verses:

“I seek refuge in Allah’s perfect words from every evil (that has been created).”

(Hadith reported by Muslim)

Khawalah binte Hakim As-Sulaimiyyah (RA) narrates for the aforementioned verses that she heard Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) saying, “Whoever, on arrival, says (verse mentioned above) no evil shall befall him until he departs from where he arrived.”

  • Dua When Facing Difficulties

There will be several times when travelling when one might feel lost. In such a case, it is advised to perform zikr (remembrance) of Allah (SWT) and istighfar (for forgiveness) for our sins.

In a narration by Abdullah bin Abbas (RA), it is stated that, “Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said that if a person constantly makes Istighfar (i.e., “Astaghfirullah”), then Allah removes every difficulty, frees him from every sorrow and makes a means for him to receive sustenance from places that he never thought of.” (Hadith reported by Ahmad)

  • Dua Upon Returning Home | Praying 2 Raka’at of Sunnah

As it is advised to pray two raka’at when leaving for a journey, it is also recommended to pray two raka’at when returning home.  Jabir (RA), in a narration, says that: “I was travelling with the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) When we reached Madinah, He Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said to me, “Enter the mosque and pray two raka’at.”

Also, it is recommended to perform the prayer in the same way as the two raka’at prayers before leaving the house.

There is no love more pure and selfless except for the love of your parents. Everyone’s parents love them unconditionally, and regardless of all and worldly reasons. “RabbiawziAAnee an ashkura niAAmataka allatee anAAamta AAalayya waAAalawalidayya waan aAAmala salihan tardahuwaaslih lee fee thurriyyatee innee tubtuilayka wa-innee mina almuslimeen”

“My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to work the righteousness of which You will approve and make righteous for me my offspring. Indeed, I have repented to You, and indeed, I am of the Muslims.” ( Quran 46:15)

  • Dua for the Long Life of Your Parents:

“Adhhib al-ba’s Rabb an-naas, wa’shfi anta al-Shaafi, laa shifaa’a illa shifaa’uka shifaa’an laa yughaadir saqaman”

Take away the pain, O Lord of mankind, and grant healing, for You are the Healer, and there is no healing but Your healing that leaves no trace of sickness.” (Narrated by al-Bukhaari, 5351, Muslim, 2191)

The muslim traveler's guide to packing for a trip.

Traveling can be one of the most exhilarating and liberating experiences in life. You get to explore new places, have unique experiences, and make lasting memories with friends and family. But to any Muslim traveler, there is an additional layer of spiritual appreciation around it; something that turns a regular vacation into somewhat of a pilgrimage — the power of prayer! It’s believed by many people across the world that reciting certain supplications (known as Duas) for traveling helps bring protection and peace on your journey. Here we will look at some of these traveling prayers for Muslims, what they mean in Arabic, how you can use them when traveling, and other useful tips to help you stay safe wherever you go.

The importance of Dua for traveling

Duas (or supplications) are a powerful form of spiritual communication, as they allow us to communicate directly with Allah and ask for His protection, guidance, and grace. When it comes to traveling in particular, there are tons of authentic narrations from the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), that teaches the importance of saying certain Duas whenever someone embarks on a journey. The most famous Dua for travel is known as “Dua al-Safar” or “The Traveler’s Prayer”.

This special prayer will not only help bring you safety during your trip but will also provide you an extra shield of mental peace while you travel and explore new places. It can be recited anytime during your journey, before setting out or even when you arrive to your destination.

Travel essentials for Muslim travelers

Apart from the spiritual tools of prayer, there are also some key material items that all Muslim travelers should bring with them on their journeys. These include:

– A Quran and/or an Islamic book ; this is particularly important if traveling abroad and encountering a new culture.

-Headscarves and long clothes such as abayas or hijab(s) can be useful for those observing traditional modesty.

– Islamic books or audio lectures that contain Islamic knowledge relevant to the situation, such as understanding cultural norms in other countries or how to deal with a difficult travel experience.

– An Islamic compass that can help with finding the direction of qibla (the direction to face when praying) no matter where you are.

– Miswak – a natural toothbrush found in some Islamic countries, it is considered Sunnah (recommended practice) to use it while traveling.

– Prayer beads or tasbihs – these are particularly useful for dhikr and reciting Duas throughout your journey.

These items will not only provide spiritual support during your travels but also provide practical guidance on how to observe Islamic etiquette both at home and abroad.

Subhana-alladhi sakh-khara la-na hadha wa ma kunna la-hu muqrinin. Wa inna ila Rabbi-na la munqalibun. Glory unto Him Who created this transportation, for us, though we were unable to create it on our own. And unto our Lord we shall return. Surah Az-Zukhruf 43:13-14 Travel Duaa

How to say a Dua for travelling

When reciting Duas for travel, there are some tips to keep in mind:

-Start by making a sincere intention of your journey and its purpose.

-Recite the Dua calmly and with humility, remembering that Allah is All-Knowing and always listening.

-Look for times when you may be feeling especially vulnerable or anxious while traveling, such as during long flights or in unfamiliar places, and recite the Dua at those moments.

-If possible, try to read Surah Al-Kafirun (The Disbelievers) before embarking on any journey. This is a powerful Dua that promises protection, safety, and success during the journey.

-Always be mindful of Allah’s presence in your travels, regardless of where you are or what challenges come your way.

The best time to recite a dua for traveling

The best time to recite a Dua for travel is just before setting out on the journey. This will ensure that you begin your travels with blessings and protection from Allah, as well as help focus your thoughts and intentions so that they remain in line with His guidance throughout the journey. Additionally, it is a good idea to recite any special Duas or prayers you may have learned while traveling, such as “l-Safar” or “The Traveler’s Prayer”. This special prayer will not only help bring you safety during your trip, but will also provide you an extra shield of mental peace while you travel and explore new places. It can be recited anytime during your journey, before setting out, or before going to sleep.

The blessings of making a dua for traveling

Making a Dua for travel is an excellent way to ensure that your travels are blessed and protected. By asking Allah for His guidance, mercy, and protection, we can rest assured that He will provide us with the strength and courage to persevere throughout our journey. Additionally, it is important to remember that Allah knows best what is best for us in all circumstances – so reciting a dua for travel reminds us of this and helps keep our intentions focused on Him. Ultimately, making a Dua for travel can help increase our faith in Allah as well as bring peace of mind knowing that He always has our back.

What to do if your journey is interrupted

If your journey is interrupted or delayed due to any unforeseen circumstances, it is important to stay patient and remember that Allah has a plan for you. During these times, it is beneficial to recite the Dua for travel again, as well as make supplications asking Him for guidance and ease in the situation. Additionally, you can also seek refuge with Him by reading Surah Al-Kafirun (The Disbelievers) and other prayers of protection. Finally, try to maintain a positive attitude during these difficult periods – knowing that Allah will provide you with what’s best in His perfect timing.

1 – The Prophet’s Traveling Dua:

Abdullah bin ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has reported that when the Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon him) set out for a journey and mounted on his camel, he would recite the following dua:

Travel Duas - 6 Islamic Duas To Recite When Traveling

Translation :

Glory be to the One Who has placed this (transport) at our service and we ourselves would not have been capable of that, and to our, Lord is our final destiny. O Allah, we ask You for righteousness and piety in this journey of ours, and we ask You for deeds which please You. O Allah, facilitate our journey and let us cover its distance quickly. O Allah, You are the Companion on the journey and the Successor (the One Who guards them in a person’s absence) over the family. O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the difficulties of travel, from having a change of heart and from being in a bad predicament, and I seek refuge with You from an ill-fated outcome with regard to wealth and family. – (Narrated by Muslim, 1342)

Can you see, how beautifully Allah has guided His men in every aspect of life? Can you see why Islam is seen as a code of life? It is because of these minute precisions Allah has given to us! The one who has created us has formulated basic codes so that we are not left alone anywhere, and we remind ourselves that Allah is present nearest to us and takes care of our journey. We just need to work on the ethics of travel. We need to recite the days telling Allah that we only put our trust in Him.

Q. Should You Pray Before Traveling?

A. Yes, it is highly recommended to say 2 raka’at nafal prayers before you start your journey. As the Prophet PBUH said:

“When you leave your house, perform two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evils. When you return home, perform another two raka’at and this will safeguard you against evils.”

Similarly, when you come back home after the journey, you should again say 2 raka’at prayer to thank Allah.

Q. Are Duas Accepted When Traveling?

A. The Prophet PBUH has told us about certain times of the day or certain instances in life when the chances of acceptance of prayer are very high. One of these times is when a Muslim is traveling. So if your trip and your dua are both for a good reason, remember Allah during the journey and He will surely remember you.

As the Prophet PBUH said:

Three supplications will not be rejected (by Allah (SWT)), the supplication of the parent for his child, the supplication of the one who is fasting, and the supplication of the traveler. [al-Bayhaqi, at-Tirmidhi – Sahih]

Dua For Travel Islam

Dua for Travel in Islam: The Importance and Practice

In Islam, dua, or supplication, holds a significant importance in the lives of believers. It is a means of communicating with Allah, seeking His guidance, mercy, and blessings in all aspects of life. When it comes to travel, dua plays a crucial role in safeguarding and seeking Allah’s protection during the journey. It is a way for the traveler to seek Allah’s help in ensuring a safe and successful trip.

The act of traveling is a common occurrence in the lives of many individuals. Whether for leisure, business, or religious purposes, embarking on a journey necessitates the need for dua. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) encouraged the practice of dua before setting off on a journey, as it serves as a form of seeking protection and guidance from Allah.

When a Muslim is about to embark on a journey, it is recommended to recite specific dua for travel. This supplication is derived from the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and holds immense significance in seeking Allah’s protection and blessings during the travel. The act of reciting this dua exemplifies the reliance and trust in Allah’s power and mercy throughout the journey.

The dua for travel in Islam is as follows:

Arabic: رَّبِّ اَدْخِلْنِيْ مُدْخَلَ صِدْقٍ وَّاَخْرِجْنِيْ مُخْــرَجَ صِدْقٍ وَّاجْعَلْ لِّيْ مِنْ لَّدُنْكَ سُلْطٰنًا نَّصِيْرًا Transliteration: Rabbi Adkhilnee Mudkhala S’idqiw Wa Akhrijnee Mukhraja S’diqiw Waj-a’l Lee Mil Ladunkaa Sult’aanan Nas’eeraa Translation: “My Lord! Let my entry (to the city of Al-Madinah) be good, and likewise my exit (from the city of Makkah) be good. And grant me from You an authority to help me (or a firm sign or a proof).”

Reciting this dua before commencing the journey is a means of seeking Allah’s protection from the potential difficulties and challenges that may arise during travel. It acknowledges the uncertainties of the road and seeks Allah’s assistance in ensuring a safe and smooth journey.

Furthermore, the practice of reciting this dua for travel is a manifestation of a believer’s submission to the will of Allah. It demonstrates a humble acknowledgment of human vulnerability and a sincere appeal for divine assistance. By invoking Allah’s protection, the traveler entrusts their safety and well-being to the Creator, recognizing His ultimate control over all affairs.

In addition to reciting the dua for travel, it is also recommended for the traveler to engage in acts of charity and goodwill. Giving charity with a sincere intention is a virtuous deed that can potentially lead to the fulfillment of one’s dua. The act of charity serves as a means of seeking Allah’s favor and blessings, and it demonstrates gratitude and generosity towards others.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the importance of charity and its potential to avert calamities and hardships. By giving charity with a pure and selfless intention, a believer invites Allah’s mercy and kindness into their lives. In the context of travel, engaging in acts of charity before embarking on the journey can serve as a means of seeking Allah’s protection and blessings.

The practice of reciting dua for travel in Islam is an essential aspect of seeking Allah’s protection and guidance during the journey. It is a demonstration of faith and reliance on Allah’s mercy and benevolence. Additionally, the act of giving charity with a sincere intention can further enhance the likelihood of one’s dua being answered by Allah. By combining the practice of dua with acts of charity, a believer can reinforce their connection with Allah and seek His assistance in all endeavors, including travel. May Allah grant us all safe and blessed travels, Ameen.

Monday briefing: xi jinping visits europe.

Also, Israel cracks down on Al Jazeera and Myanmar’s rebels get creative with drones.

By Amelia Nierenberg

A group of mostly men walk down a red carpet from a plane. They are wearing suits. Xi Jinping is in front.

Xi Jinping traveled to Europe

Xi Jinping, China’s leader, arrived in France yesterday on his first trip to Europe in five years . He will also visit Serbia and Hungary.

The three countries, to varying degrees, are embracing China’s push for a new global order. Xi seems intent on seizing opportunities to loosen the continent’s bonds with the U.S. and forge a world freed of its dominance. The visit is likely to be seen as a none-too-subtle effort by Xi to divide Western allies.

Soon after arriving in Paris, he praised France, whose president, Emmanuel Macron, has often made the Gaullist point that Europe “must never be a vassal of the United States.”

The chemistry between Xi and Macron — who visited China just over a year ago, and echoed the Chinese lexicon of a “multipolar” world, freed of “blocs” — appears to lie in a shared view that the postwar order must be replaced. Xi wants to court leaders who are frustrated by U.S. dominance, see China as a counterweight and are eager to bolster economic ties.

Analysis: “Macron is trying to bring a third way in the current global chaos,” said one French expert on relations with China.

What’s next: Tomorrow, Xi heads to Serbia. His arrival coincides with the 25th anniversary of the deadly NATO bombing of the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade. That mistaken strike, for which the White House apologized, killed three Chinese journalists and ignited protests around the U.S. Embassy in Beijing.

Israel shut down Al Jazeera

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel said yesterday that his cabinet had voted to shut down the Israeli operations of Al Jazeera . He called the Qatar-based network an “incitement channel.”

Netanyahu accused Al Jazeera, which has long had a tense relationship with Israel, of harming its national security and inciting violence against its soldiers. Israeli officials did not immediately provide examples of content that Israel believed posed a threat.

In a statement in Arabic, Al Jazeera called the decision a “criminal act,” adding that “Israeli’s suppression of the free press to cover up its crimes has not deterred us from performing our duty,” Journalism organizations denounced the closure, which had been under discussion in Israel for weeks, as a blow to press freedom.

Context: A major source of news in the Arab world, Al Jazeera has reported extensively from Gaza and highlighted the suffering of the war.

Other updates:

Negotiations: A group representing families of hostages expressed concerns yesterday that Netanyahu, under pressure from hard-line coalition members, was trying to stall or sabotage a possible deal with Hamas.

Campus protests: They’re spreading from the U.S. to universities in other countries. Here’s how the world sees the U.S. protests .

Hunger: Israel pushed back after a U.N. official said there was a “full-blown famine” in northern Gaza.

Arrests in Canada in the killing of a Sikh leader

The Canadian police said on Friday that three Indian men had been arrested and charged in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh separatist who was fatally shot in Canada last June.

The arrests did little to demystify the killing , which set off a diplomatic clash and led to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s blunt accusation that India had orchestrated the murder. The Canadian police did not present evidence to support his claim, but said that an investigation into India’s role in Nijjar’s death is ongoing.

Stakes: The accusation, if proven, could suggest that India’s external spy agency, the Research and Analysis Wing, is now extending its playbook of working with criminals to carry out operations in Western countries, analysts said.

This year, Taiwan’s major pilgrimages for Mazu — the goddess of the sea — attracted record numbers of participants. Many are younger people who want to keep old traditions alive.

“They’re proud of their culture. ARTS AND IDEAS

Rebel fighters rely on cheap drones.

Cheaply made, haphazardly assembled drones are key to the rebel fight in Myanmar . Resistance forces are getting creative with instructions crowdsourced online, parts ordered from China and wires repurposed from drones used for agriculture.

All this while their electricity sputters off.

The drones have changed the course of the fight against the military junta, which took power in a 2021 coup. They have helped rebels capture military outposts just by hovering and spooking soldiers into fleeing, and enabled sweeping offensives into junta-controlled territory, targeting police stations and bases.

And the Myanmar fighters are not alone: Cheap consumer drones are changing conflicts from Ukraine and Yemen, to Sudan and Gaza. The world’s outgunned forces are often learning from each other, teaching each other to hack through the default software on commercial drones that could give away their location, or sharing 3-D printing blueprints.
