Riding to fight kids' cancer

Join the ride to fight kids’ cancer.

Challenge yourself to ride throughout September and raise funds to end childhood cancer and save little lives.

One month. One Goal. Fight kids' cancer.

This September, we're riding to end childhood cancer and save little lives.

Every hill we climb and every mile we pedal will be to honour those lives we've lost and stand with those brave kids still fighting to survive. These kids won't give up, and neither will we.

Our goal is to fund life-saving research to develop safer and more effective treatments, and find cures for all childhood cancers.

Because kids should be living life, NOT fighting for it.

Schengen-style GCC tourist visa: ‘GCC Grand Tours’ visa soon to allow visitors to travel in UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar for over 30 days

Unified visa will make travel more affordable for tourists, UAE Minister of Economy says

GCC 30 day travel visa

Dubai: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) unified Gulf tourist visa – to be named the ‘GCC Grand Tours’ – will allow travellers to visit all six GCC states and spend more than 30 days in the region, UAE Minister of Economy Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri announced Monday on the opening day of the Arabian Travel Market.

He said, “In a significant move aimed at simplifying travel logistics and fostering tourism, the Gulf Cooperation Council has given the green light to a unified tourist visa that will allow travellers to visit all six countries. Through the GCC Grand Tours, that we are working on and aiming to finish, will allow tourists to spend more than 30 days in the region.”

According to the Minister, this will make travel to the region more convenient and affordable for tourists. It will also increase activity and employment numbers in the region, explained the Minister.

  • ATM 2024: Emirates confirms Bahrain, Mumbai as launch destinations for its new Airbus A350 flights

Rollout planned by end-2024

While the Minister did not state an official rollout date for the GCC unified visa, Khalid Jasim Al Midfa of Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Authority (SCTDA), who was also speaking at the conference, said the “system should be in place by the end of the year.”

“By the end of this year, the whole system should be in place. Many people and teams, led by the Ministry of Economy in the UAE and other ministries in other countries, are working on it tirelessly to make it happen in the best possible way, emphasizing digital transformation,” said Al Midfa.

“E-services are also vital to this effort because we want to make it easy, avoiding unnecessary complications. Simultaneously, we aim to maintain all the security measures. We share many common security measures (with Saudi Arabia) that will facilitate obtaining a UAE or GCC visa for all GCC countries,” he added. Al Midfa said the region has huge tourism potential and each countries’ tourism boards are working hard to convert it into ‘materialistic economic value’.

"I believe it will be a positive initiative, leading to significant contributions to our regional GDP within the next eight to 10 years," said AlMidfa.

The senior Sharjah government leader said that MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) sector would also contribute tremendously towards visitor growth.

‘Unlike the Schengen visa’

According to AlMidfa, the objectives of GCC-wide tourism are unlike those of the Schengen visa, which were ‘socio-political or socio-economic’. “Here, tourism is driving the initiative. So, we have to structure it differently for people to access GCC countries,” he said.

As business travel entails a higher spend per person than leisure travellers, typically three times more, the packages offered to travellers seeking a GCC-wide travel experience must promote a diverse portfolio. AlMidfa suggested offering multiple leisure and business packages.

Tourism’s contribution to GDP

Al-Marri also said that in 2021, international spending in the GCC will capture 35 per cent of the market. “The travellers' footprint across our lands contributed $109 billion to the total GDP of the GCC economies, highlighting a robust rebound and potential that tourism holds as a cornerstone for economic development,” he said.

He also said that in 2023, the UAE’s tourism sector has surpassed expectations. The Minister cited the World Travel and Tourism Council’s (WTTC) research and stated that travel and tourism contributed 11.7 per cent to the UAE’s GDP last year, amounting to Dh220 billion. “The forecast is set even higher, with an anticipated contribution of 12 per cent to our GDP, equating to Dh236 billion,” he added.

“I believe that our regional ambitions should not be to recover to pre-pandemic benchmarks but exceed them merely,” said Al Marri.

GCC promotes the region as a leading tourism destination

UAE: Abu Dhabi | Tourism

In 2022 the Middle East witnessed the sharpest relative increase in international arrivals of any region in the world, solidifying its rebound from the disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic and further raising its profile as an increasingly attractive destination for inbound tourism. According to the UN World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), in 2022 international arrivals in the Middle East recovered to 83% of the levels prior to the onset of the pandemic, outperforming all other regions.

Road to Recovery

Dubai in particular saw a significant increase in international visitors in 2022, with 14.4m tourists visiting the emirate. That figure represented a 97% jump from the previous year’s 7.3m visitors, surpassing global and regional recovery levels. At 86% of pre-pandemic arrival levels that year, Dubai has become emblematic of the tourism growth trajectory in the Gulf. The surge was due in part to sustained investment in tourism infrastructure, its hosting of Expo 2020 – held in 2021/22 – the emirate’s handling of the pandemic and effective overseas marketing efforts.

Tourism in GCC countries has gained significant momentum on the international stage as the region transforms itself into a competitive leisure and entertainment destination. This trend is catalysed by international events like the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which drew 2.5m visitors to the region, particularly benefitting Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.

Gulf countries are working together to boost cross-border cooperation in the travel, tourism and hospitality segments, to create unique but complementary offerings that suit emerging consumer preferences and market trends. All six GCC member countries coordinate their investment and marketing strategies according to a mutually agreed tourism development agenda. These plans include existing and upcoming luxury hotels and resorts, heritage sites, and retail and entertainment offerings.

Regional Agreements

As the result of collaboration between federal and local authorities, national airlines and private institutions, a tourism strategy has been devised to market regional offerings, develop new platforms and raise the quality of service. The Gulf Tourism Strategy was adopted at the end of the sixth meeting of GCC ministers of tourism in November 2022 in Al Ula governorate in Saudi Arabia. It is a joint initiative among members of the bloc that outlines a roadmap for developing the tourism sector in the region. The strategy, which was endorsed at the 43rd session of the Supreme Council of the GCC in December 2022 in Riyadh, highlights key objectives, including the diversification of existing offerings, the promotion of sustainable tourism practices and improvements in the quality of services. By working together, GCC countries hope to leverage collective strengths and package a more compelling value proposition to tourists, while exchanging best practices, sharing resources and developing joint initiatives.

Several factors position Gulf countries as competitive providers of integrated tourism services. According to the 2023 Numbeo Safety Index, which measures the level of crime in a country, Qatar was the safest country in the world, followed by the UAE, while Oman and Bahrain ranked fifth and 10th, respectively. This high level of security has helped the GCC develop a reputation as a haven for tourists concerned about their personal safety in the post-pandemic environment, as well as a secure place for tourism investment. Similarly, geographic proximity not only makes the region easily accessible for key source markets in Europe, Asia and Africa, but also reduces the travel time and expense associated with long-haul flights.

Robust air connectivity, led by two of the world’s busiest airports in Dubai and Doha, is further strengthened by growing national flag carrier networks. According to a January 2023 report published by the Gulf Centre for Studies and Research, known by its English acronym CSRG ulf, the UAE and Qatar have the most extensive national air fleets in the region, with 257 and 200 aircraft, respectively, while Saudi Arabia has 144.

The Gulf Tourism Strategy recognises the importance of collaboration among GCC countries to capitalise on their competitive advantages, create a cohesive regional tourism vision and ensure the benefits are spread evenly across member countries. In tandem with national tourism strategies, the GCC seeks to secure collective commitment among its members to develop and support a common vision that defines and delivers clear outcomes, including job creation and higher levels of contribution to GDP, to facilitate diversification.

Going Digital

As GCC governments implement a methodical approach to tourism, they have become increasingly aware of the crucial role that digital experiences play in every stage of a traveller’s journey. The pandemic further highlighted the importance of digital technologies in enabling seamless and safer travel. In line with the Gulf Tourism Strategy, the Gulf Tourism Platform was proposed in November 2022 as a digital gateway that provides tourists with a one-stop shop for planning and booking their regional trips. This platform will use digital technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data analytics to offer a range of services, including booking accommodations, flights and tours, as well as providing practical tips and information on tourist attractions and activities, all of which aim to facilitate and enhance visitors’ travel experiences.

In a similar vein, the Gulf Tourism Capital programme was introduced in November 2020, during the fifth annual meeting of the GCC ministers of tourism, to highlight, promote and attract investment in new projects and emerging tourism sites. The inaugural Gulf Tourism Capital title went to Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE in 2021, in recognition of its popularity as an adventure destination and its effective response to the pandemic. In 2020 it became the first Middle East destination to obtain a Safe Travel seal from the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). The Gulf Tourism Capital programme and nomination guide was reaffirmed at the sixth meeting of GCC ministers of tourism in November 2022.

Individual Strengths

According to the UNWTO, more than 900m tourists travelled internationally in 2022, indicating that the tourism sector is on track to reach 65% of the pre-pandemic total. In the first nine months of the year, Saudi Arabia emerged as the top tourist destination in the GCC, receiving 18m visitors. The UAE welcomed 14.8m people, while other top tourist recipients in the Gulf from January to September 2022 included Bahrain (4.3m visitors), Qatar (2.9m visitors) and Oman (2.3m visitors).

In recent years the sector has been playing an increasingly larger role in Gulf countries, due to investment in key areas. In 2021 Qatar ranked highest in the region in terms of tourism revenue, with the sector contributing 10.3% of GDP. Bahrain came in second, with an 8.2% share, followed by Saudi Arabia (6.5%) and the UAE (6.4%). The smallest tourism-related GDP contributions in 2021 were in Kuwait and Oman, at 4.3% and 3.5%, respectively.

Travel and tourism revenue in the GCC amounted to $245bn in 2021, or around 8.6% of regional GDP, According to the WTTC’s “2019 Economic Impact Report”. Out of total tourism revenue, 83% of spending was for leisure travel while business travel comprised 17%. Some 63% came from international tourism expenditure versus 37% from domestic tourism. Over the years the region’s tourism performance has improved at a steady rate, with an estimated 4.1% compound annual growth rate during the 2015-19 period.

Building Awareness

To unlock their full potential, each GCC country has rolled out a national tourism strategy aiming to attract investment and boost arrival figures. Although already a top destination for travellers in the GCC, the UAE has sought to futureproof its tourism sector with the launch of the UAE Tourism Strategy 2031. The strategy is part of Projects of the 50, a 50-year programme to secure the country’s competitiveness in the high-value industries of the future. With Dubai targeting 25m visitors annually by the year 2025 and Abu Dhabi 30m by 2030, the strategy seeks to raise the tourism sector’s contribution to GDP to $122.6bn, generating an average annual increase of $7.4bn; attracting up to $27.2bn in tourism investment; and welcoming 40m hotel guests across the country by 2031. The UAE also launched 25 projects that look to strengthen its national tourism ecosystem by developing specialised tourism projects, building tourism capabilities and increasing investment in all related sectors, activities that will create employment opportunities in the tourism sector and boost the country’s economy.

GCC announces 2023 Gulf Coast Classic

gcc tour 2023

Next year, the Gulf Coast Council of Fly Fishers International will once again hold a major event the first weekend of May. Unlike our recent Sweetwater Classics – which were mostly tournament events with a splash of casting and fly tying – the Gulf Coast Classic will be more like our “conclaves” of the past. However, we’ll still have a fishing contest as well as the Fly Fishing Film Tour and much more!

Preliminary details have been posted on the “Classic” page. More details will be forthcoming on that page over the next few months.

2024 Travelers Championship odds: 3-time Tour winner is our long shot in Connecticut

Tom Kim had a strong showing at last week's U.S. Open.

Andrew Redington/Getty Images

Yet another Signature Event is on the schedule this week at the 2024 Travelers Championship, and we’re selecting a three-time PGA Tour champion as our long shot to win. Here’s our long-shot pick, the Travelers odds, betting favorites and everything else you need to know.

Travelers odds: Long-shot bet

For the final Signature Event of the PGA Tour season, we’re picking Tom Kim (+5000) as our long shot to take home the $3.6 million winner’s check.

Kim got off to a hot start in his Tour career, winning three times from 2022-2023. He’s struggled so far this season but is starting to round into form.

bryson dechambeau hoists u.s. open trophy, rory mcilroy holds his hands on his head

Tour Confidential: Did Bryson win the U.S. Open? Or did Rory lose it?

He finished T4 at the RBC Canadian Open at the beginning of June and had a strong showing at last week’s U.S. Open, where he finished T26.

If you put $10 on Kim to win and he does, you’ll earn $500. For insurance, consider placing additional small bets on Kim to finish top 10 and top 20.

Looking for more long-shot bets for the Travelers Championship? This week’s honorable mentions are Akshay Bhatia (+6600) and Jason Day (+6600).

Travelers odds: The favorites

After a disappointing week at Pinehurst, World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler is back in action and the betting favorite once again with +400 odds-to-win.

Despite his devastating U.S. Open loss, Rory McIlroy is still in the Travelers field as of Monday ( UPDATE: McIlroy officially withdrew from the Travelers Monday evening ), and he comes in second in odds-to-win at +750. PGA champion Xander Schauffele (+800) rounds out the top 3.

You can see the top 15 in Travelers Championship betting odds as of Monday afternoon below or head over to BetMGM to see the full list of odds and bets for this week.

2024 Travelers Championship betting odds (Top 15 and ties)

Scottie Scheffler (+350) Xander Schauffele (+750) Collin Morikawa (+1000) Ludvig Aberg (+1400) Viktor Hovland (+2000) Hideki Matsuyama (+2200) Patrick Cantlay (+2200) Corey Conners (+3300) Justin Thomas (+3300) Sahith Theegala (+3300) Sam Burns (+3300) Tommy Fleetwood (+3300) Tony Finau (+3300) Brian Harman (+4000) Russell Henley (+4000)

GCC earns 2024-25 College of Distinction honors

Grove City College is a 2024-25 College of Distinction , recognized for its overall excellence, Christian character, standout education, business, and engineering programs, and for supporting student success through the Career Services Office.

Colleges of Distinction, an online college search resource, draws on in-depth research to highlight schools that exemplify the Four Distinctions: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant community, and successful outcomes. Colleges of Distinction schools enable students to have a fulfilling, individualized college experience.

“A college degree opens the door to many opportunities. But a truly worthwhile education prepares students to thrive once they walk through that door. Grove City College’s curriculum encourages meaningful student-faculty collaboration through experiential learning that is relevant and applicable to the real world,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer at Colleges of Distinction.

The selection process comprises a sequence of in-depth research and detailed interviews with the schools about each institution’s freshman experience and retention efforts alongside its general education programs, career development, strategic plan, student satisfaction, and more.

"We are so impressed to see how Grove City College brings life to the traditional undergraduate experience. With a welcoming community, an immersive curriculum, and strong support networks, the College is undoubtedly nurturing the growth of tomorrow’s leaders,” Schritter said.

In addition to being a College of Distinction, Grove City College is recognized as a Christian College of Distinction and a Pennsylvania College of Distinction.

The College’s academically excellent Education, Business, and Engineering programs earned 2024-25 College of Distinction honors based on their comprehensive curricula, accreditation, breadth of program, advising and mentoring, integration of career services, and successful outcomes for students.

The Career Services Office also earned special recognition for the work its staff does guiding students to their callings and helping with internships, jobs, and more.

“Grove City College is doing important work to help its students thrive after graduation. The job market can be intimidating, but this school’s resources and support services give students an advantage in whatever field they pursue,” Schritter said.

For nearly 150 years, Grove City College has offered students an academically excellent, affordable, and Christ-centered living and learning experience. The College is grounded in permanent ideas and conservative values, committed to the foundations of a free society, and develops leaders of the highest proficiency, purpose, and principles to advance the common good. The College is a pioneer in independent private education and accepts no federal funds.

Tuition Frequently Asked Questions

What information is included on the bill i receive from gcc.

Your bill includes the semester’s charges calculated according to credit hour. The bill lists anticipated payments from financial aid and any previous balance from prior semesters or payments already made for the current semester. Your bill also indicates whether we have a valid Certificate of Residence Form on file and your class schedule for the billed semester.

What is a Certificate of Residence and why do I need one?

A Certificate of Residence is issued by your County and verifies your legal address for the past 12 months. It is required from all students each year because it permits the College to bill your home County. Failure of NYS residents to submit a certificate will result in double tuition charges.

You can obtain an application for a Certificate of Residence online, or from the Student Accounts Office or a Campus Center. It is important that you follow the instructions on the reverse side (page 2) of the application, and any county-specific instructions.

When is payment due?

Bryson DeChambeau wins his second U.S. Open title. Lilia Vu wins playoff on LPGA Tour

PINEHURST, N.C. — Bryson DeChambeau won the U.S. Open on Sunday for the second time with the best shot of his life for another finish on the 18th hole at Pinehurst No. 2 that won’t be forgotten — and another heavy dose of heartache for Rory McIlroy.

In a wild final hour of more blunders than brilliance, DeChambeau capped off a week of high entertainment by getting up-and-down from 55 yards out of a bunker, making a 4-foot par putt to close with a 1-over 71.

Payne Stewart famously made a 15-foot par putt on the final hole in 1999 at the first U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, beating Phil Mickelson by one shot. DeChambeau says he was inspired to go to SMU when he saw a mural of Stewart on campus.

The par putt wasn’t as long or as suspenseful as Stewart’s in 1999. The celebration was every bit of that. DeChambeau repeatedly pumped those strong arms as he screamed to the blue sky, turning in every direction to a gallery that cheered him on all week.

McIlroy was in the scoring room, devastated by another close call in a major.

This one will sting. As much as this U.S. Open will be remembered for DeChambeau’s marvelous bunker shot, McIlroy played a big part by shockingly missing two short putts, the last one from just inside 4 feet for par on the final hole. He closed with a 69.

McIlroy was watching from the scoring room as DeChambeau escaped from an awful lie left of the fairway — a tree in his back swing, a root in front of the golf ball — and punched it out into the bunker. He expertly blasted a shot from the soft sand that rolled out on the crispy green to set up the winning putt.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Lilia Vu won the Meijer LPGA Classic in a playoff Sunday in her return from a back injury, spoiling Lexi Thompson’s bid for her first victory in five years.

Playing for the first time since the Ford Championship in late March in Arizona, Vu beat Thompson and third-round leader Grace Kim with a 5-foot birdie putt on the third extra hole — the par-5 fourth at tree-lined Blythefield Country Club.

Thompson, the 2015 winner, has said this will be her last year playing a full schedule. She won the last of her 11 LPGA Tour titles at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in June 2019.

Vu birdied the par-5 18th in regulation for a 7-under 65, then twice more to match Thompson and Kim — who entered the day five strokes ahead of Thompson and eight clear of Vu — on the first two playoff holes.

On the deciding hole, Vu hit her second shot into the bunker to the right of the green and blasted out to set up the birdie. Thompson and Kim missed long birdie tries after laying up following errant drives.

Vu birdied four of the last six holes in regulation to match Thomson and Kim at 16-under 272.

A former No. 1 player and double major winner last year, the 27-year-old American won for the fifth time on the LPGA Tour. The eight-stroke comeback is the largest of the season, one more than Linnea Strom overcame last week in the ShopRite LPGA Classic.

Korn Ferry Tour

WICHITA, Kan. — Taylor Dickson won his second Korn Ferry Tour event of the season on Sunday, closing with a 5-under 65 at the Wichita Open for a one-shot victory over William Mouw and Sam Stevens.

Dickson finished at 19-under 261 at Crestview Country Club and joins Tim Widing and Harry Higgs as two-time winners this year. He trailed Stevens by four shots entering the final round but moved into contention with six birdies in his first 14 holes.

Stevens, a Wichita native and Crestview member, entered the final round with a three-shot lead in his first Korn Ferry Tour start of the year but finished with back-to-back bogeys. His approach on the 154-yard, par-3 17th came up well short, and on the par-4 18th, he missed the fairway to the right and failed to get up-and-down from a greenside bunker.

Mouw closed with a 65 for his best career finish on tour.
