Hello! Welcome to the Marathon Mermaid! Having a Marathon Florida Boat Tour company has been a dream of John and Angela's for years, and now is finally a reality! But everything we learned and the entire process just made the end result that much sweeter, the whole "WE DID IT" feeling was exhilarating.  We are excited to watch our business grow and see what adventure it is going to take us on. Starting a charter boat to take people out to enjoy the beauty that we get to live every day is definitely the best part of this whole experience. General faq.

Each of our locations has a parking lot but during peak season, lots do tend to fill up.  This is specially true for our Sombrero Beach location. Sombrero Beach is home to one of the most popular beaches in the Florida keys.  Because of this, the parking lots tend to fill up quite early.  We HIGHLY recommend carpooling with your group.  You have a much better chance of finding parking for 1 car than multiples.

There is really only one concern and that is weather! For kayaking and paddle boarding knowing the weather is extremely important. Unfortunately we don’t control the weather but we will monitored it closed and will always keep you informed. Cancellation do due to weather are 100% refundable.

As with most any outdoor activity, be prepared for a workout!  There will be a bit of necessary exertion of energy to get these kayaks/SUPs moving, but there is no need to hurry or travel far.  Please don’t overdo it!  Take breaks when you feel the need and don’t feel pressured to paddle a long distance.  You will be floating in an entirely clear kayak in one of the most picturesque landscapes in the world; what’s the rush?  Check out that view and just cruise or stop and float for a while; do whatever suits you, just as long as you have fun!

Absolutely not!  Our kayaks are incredibly easy to use and it doesn’t take much practice or skill to maneuver. A short instruction will be provided by one of our Ambassadors prior to launching to get you comfortable with the equipment.

No, it is not. The width and depth of the kayaks as well as the additional tracks added lessen your chances of capsizing. They are very stable and extremely easy to get in and out of.

You are free to wander in any direction you desire, but our guides are very knowledgeable with the area and are always willing to share with you what there is to explore and how to get there.

*Side Note: Every inch of marathon is magnificent and has a view worth exploring.

The middle of the day during the summer time tends to get extremely hot, so we suggest going in the morning or in the afternoon if the weather is to hot for you as it is!

Clear skies and climbing temperatures in the spring around the mid-80s by May. Too isolated for most spring breakers, this is the prime time to take advantage of the beach and water-based activities like kayaking excursion. Not to mention, you’ll get cheaper hotel rates come spring.

December-February

Can you put a price on ocean views and mid-70s in the dead of winter? Hotels here can get pretty expensive but with good reason. Everyone want to be here!

One of our Travel Ambassadors will meet you at our location with the equipment. You will be check in and get your life jackets and other accessories. Then you will be shown the equipment and instructed on how to properly use it, receiving safety instruction. Instructed on what to expected during your rental, as well as, you will be given some expert guidance as to where you should explore during your adventure. After that your rental begins.

One of our Travel Ambassadors will meet you at our location with the equipment. You will be check in and get your life jackets and other accessories. Then you will be shown the equipment and instructed on how to properly use it, receiving safety instruction. Instructed on what to expected during your tour. After that your rental begins.

Kids 5 and up are more then welcome to partake in this fun experience! But they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Minors over 14 may ride solo.

Yes.  Although you will be sitting in a kayak-canoe hybrid, do expect to get a little wet.  Whether it be from the splashing of the paddles or the naturally occurring movement of water; you are bound to feel a little bit of that cool, Keys water during your journey.  Come prepared and dress accordingly

Each kayak has a dry bag to store your items.  They are of decent size, but try to pack light and bring only the necessities to make your adventure comfortable and enjoyable.

You should bring sunscreen, hats, sunglasses, waterproof camera and any other drinks or snacks you would like have (Alcohol Prohibited) . Please bring plenty of water it gets hot out there! Children under 5 must bring there own life jacket. Also is a good idea to bring and leave in your vehicle towels & change of clothes.

We operated out multiple locations in Marathon. Marathon Sombrero Beach and Cocoplum Beach. Check back often to see what we’re up to with our 15ft all transparent boat and where are glowing near you! And if you have an interesting kayaking trail or location we should check out, please let us know!

Mangroves serve as nurseries for fish, oysters, crab, and shrimp. Snook, mangrove snapper, tarpon, jack, mullet, sheepshead, and a large variety of other Florida fish feed on this tropical plant. Its branches and boughs become nesting rookeries for many species of birds and its root system helps prevent erosion and stabilize the shoreline.

Three mangrove species are in Florida: the red, black and white mangrove. The red mangrove is the best known, found closest to the water, and distinguished by its prop root system. The black mangrove has finger-like projections that are found in shallower water while the white mangrove usually grows upland of the other species and has yellowish-green leaves with no visible aerial root systems. Mangroves grow in tidal salty environments and are able to obtain freshwater from saltwater.

The mangroves at Boot Key act as a sanctuary for heron, egrets, crabs, mangrove snapper, jellyfish, seahorse, iguanas, manatees and many more.

To get there turn South on Coco Plum Drive and the beach entrance is 1.4 miles on the right hand side of the road. The hours are from 7:30 a.m. until dusk.

One of the best sandbars in Marathon is located just east of Curry Hammock State Park. It’s located offshore of Crawl Key, Grassy Key and Valhalla. The approximate GPS coordinates for the sandbar are 24°44’26.7″N 80°58’25.2″W. This is arguably the best sandbar in Marathon. It’s often called the Valhalla Sandbar, Grassy Key Sandbar, or by other names. This is also the sandbar that most people refer to when they say the “Marathon sandbar”.

The sandbar is long and narrow. It extends down towards Coco Plum Beach in broken sections. The water on the Grassy Key sandbar is beautiful, shallow and crystal clear. It’s especially beautiful over the clean, fine white sand on the sandbar’s bottom.

At low tide the sandbar is exposed, or just inches deep in some places, and about calf deep or deeper in other spots.

Boot Key is an island in the Middle Keys of Florida, located just south of U.S. Highway 1, adjacent to Vaca Key. Boot Key is within the city limits of Marathon, Florida, United States. The island is mostly undeveloped despite having a bridge spanning Boot Key Harbor to Key Vaca, which is now closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. So the only way to access is by kayaks or paddle boards.

Though we hope that every day is perfect, we are not in control of the wind, waves, clouds, rain or underwater sea life. Manual wheelchairs allowed, 2 per trip (electric wheelchairs not allowed.) Fury has one manual wheelchair that is available for guests to use. Guests must have assistance that can help move them safely to the manual chair.

Yes. It is necessary for Fury to collect your paid in full voucher and give you a boarding pass. This helps us maintain an accurate count for the Coast Guard.

Yes! To receive a military discount on any Fury trip, please book through the MWR office on Key West’s Sigsbee base by calling 305-293-4174.

Yes, life jackets are onboard for everyone in case of emergency.

We provide water and a snack bar for purchase for the duration of the tour. Sodas are $2 and a selection of chips, peanuts, crackers and cookies for $1. You are more than welcome to bring lunch and snacks just no glass containers, please.

We will not be taking any photos on this trip.

No, we do not offer any wifi on our vessels.

Fury Water Adventures does not operate in unsafe weather conditions, but a light rain shower is not a deterrent. The Captain will assess the weather and should the Captain determine that the conditions are unsafe to run the tour, the tour may be postponed or it will be canceled. If a trip is canceled by Fury Water Adventures for any reason, every effort will be made to reschedule the trip during your stay in Key West. If you are unable to reschedule, you will have the option of receiving a voucher for a future trip or receiving a full refund. Every effort will be made to run tours, as advertised. Should Fury have to amend or alter your tour due to extraneous circumstances, tickets remain non-refundable on tours taken.

All cancellations must be made at least 24 hours prior to your trip’s scheduled departure time. To place a cancellation, please call 1-888-976-0899 or email [email protected] and refer to the confirmation number at the top of your confirmation document. Failure to place a cancellation at least 24 hours in advance will result in your credit card being charged the full amount of the reserved. No refunds will be issued for reservations cancelled within 24 hours of departure, unless reservation refund protection was purchased. Please note that failure to show for the reserved trip  without cancellation will result in no refund. If a trip is cancelled by Fury Water Adventures® for any reason, every effort will be made to reschedule the trip during your stay in Key West. If you are unable to reschedule, you will have the option of receiving a voucher for a future trip or receiving a refund.

Fury has a 24 hour notice cancellation policy to receive a refund. Guests can purchase Reservation Refund Protection for a 10% fee to be eligible to cancel or transfer tickets up to 1 hour prior to their scheduled departure. All you have to do is email a request to [email protected] no later than 1 hour in advance of your reservation time.

Reservation refund protection fees are 100% non-refundable in the event of any cancellation or reservation change.

No, we do not provide parking at any of our check in locations, but you can use street parking, pay to park lots or parking garages.

Most Fury tours will require the minor guest’s  natural parent be present at check in to sign them in. Please call 888-976-0899 for specific policy details for your preferred tour.

Fury allows service animals only. A service animal is any dog that has been trained to perform tasks to benefit an individual.  The work performed must be directly related to the individuals disability.  According the ADA service animals for emotional support, therapy, comfort or companionship are not considered service animals.

The guest requiring the service animal must be in possession of the animal at all times. Due to the nature of Fury tours,  guest and service animal  may  be required to remain on the boat for the entirety of the tour . This is to ensure the guest’s safety as well as that of the service animal, Key West wildlife, other guests, captain and crew.

The best keys snorkeling in Florida is actually not where most people think (it surprised us). While Key Largo and Key West are the most popular spots, by far the best snorkeling is to be found between these two keys.

There are a bunch of snorkel locations that are simply stunning, some of the best we have ever seen anywhere. They are located in the waters off Islamorada (Matecumbe Key), Marathon (Vaca Key), and Big Pine Key.

We call all of these lesser known snorkeling grounds the Middle Keys, because, well, they are in the middle.

All of these reefs are reached by boat tours, and we normally prefer destinations that have more beach access. But we don't let that stop us, because the health of the reefs at these locations make the Florida Keys one of the best places to snorkel.

Florida Keys Shallow Water Sight Fishing For Sharks – CATCH & RELEASE

The Florida Keys and all of South Florida is home to some really fun Shark fishing opportunities.  Fishing for Sharks is probably one of the coolest species we have here all year long.  There are many different species of Sharks found here in the Florida Keys and South Florida.  Blacktip, Lemon, Hammerhead, Bonnet Head, and Bull Sharks are just to name a few.  These fish can be targeted by just about any skill level of fisherman on light tackle spin and even fly rods.  If you want to catch a really big fish that bites back the Shark is the one for you!

How We Catch Sharks: We like to target sharks by chumming them up to the boat in 3 feet of water.  Usually, our first couple sharks start to show up in 5 minutes of chumming and within 30 minutes we can have dozens of 4-10 foot long sharks circling around the boat.  It’s really exciting to pick out the Shark you want to catch.

These toothy critters are a lot of fun to fight because of their long screaming runs and violent head shakes.  Sometimes they will even jump out of the water.  It’s a great way to hone your fish fighting skills and have a great story to tell when you get back to the dock.  Our style of Shark fishing is great for all ages and skill levels.

Shark Fishing Trips Details: Shark fishing trips usually last 4 – 6 hours.  Most of the time we will start our trip catching Barracuda’s or Jacks with artificial lures.  They are a lot of fun on light tackle spin because they fight hard.  Once we have several in the boat we will head to another spot to use them as chum to bring in the Sharks.

During the 90-minute cruise, your boat captain will share the rich history of the springs while pointing out wildlife on land and underwater.

The benches on this new boat lift up and down, making it accessible for wheelchairs and making it easier for every passenger to see the glass viewing area.

Silver Springs State Park offers 5,000 acres of outdoor fun. Explore the river on a kayak or canoe, or go hiking and biking on 14 miles of multi-use trails . Keep an eye out for wildlife including frogs, tortoise, white-tail deer, wild turkeys, and of course many species of birds. Visit The Silver River Museum and Environmental Education Center , which offers a look into the park’s past, including pioneer settlement buildings and exhibits highlighting local wildlife, vegetation, geology, and human inhabitants dating back thousands of years! Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour

One of our favorite Orlando boat tours is in Winter Park. It was established in the 1930s, decades before Walt Disney World opened in Lake Buena Vista.

This pontoon boat tour starts near the well-known Park Avenue area. Set out on your scenic cruise from Lake Osceola to the Winter Park Chain of Lakes as your guide takes you through the manmade canals.

Sail past stunning homes in Winter Park, where you will have breathtaking views of the opulent private homes in the area (which is one of the reasons we enjoy the boat tour).

You will have a chance to see wonderful some of Florida’s beautiful birds, like Blue Herons and large cranes, as you travel on several lakes. 

Each boat holds a maximum of 18 passengers. Be sure to bring cash or a check to buy your tickets because credit cards are not accepted. We advise purchasing tickets in the morning on weekends, even if you plan on going later in the day. It’s a very popular tour, and tickets often sell out quickly. 

Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour is closed on Christmas Day. Otherwise, tours leave daily on the hour, starting at 10:00 am. The last tour is at 4:00 pm.

One of our favorite destinations from Central Florida is 45 minutes north: the quaint town of Mount Dora . There’s so much to see and do there in the afternoon or morning; a boat tour is the best way to extend your trip to a whole day. 

Take a 2-hour pontoon boat tour with a departure point at the historic hotel, the Lakeside Inn. Enjoy your leisurely cruise around Lake Dora and The Harris Chain of Lakes, including the famed Dora Canal.

The all-weather 25’ boats can cruise rain or shine thanks to their retractable clear covers for the sides of the boat. Choose from one of two daytime tours, or their third option to cruise during sunset. 

Clearwater Beach with Dolphin Encounter Cruise

This 12-hour full-day tour begins with pick-up at 7:30 am. You’ll head west of Orlando to the popular Florida destination (Clearwater Beach), where you will take a cruise to encounter bottlenose dolphins in their natural habitat. 

While this means that you aren’t guaranteed to spot dolphins, your tour guide will do his or her very best to find them. You may see these beautiful mammals up close by the boat or further in the distance if they appear in the ocean. Part of the fun is the anticipation. 

A one-hour dolphin tour boat ride is sandwiched between hours of free time on a Gulf Coast beach. For only $10 more, you can purchase a wristband for the boat ride that allows you to have unlimited beer, wine, and vodka punch. 

Pickup and drop off are included at one of three major locations of your choice (Disney areas included). This means that all you have to do is sign up for the tour and be at that location for pick-up time.

This clear canoe boat tour is approximately halfway between Orlando and Gainesville at Silver Springs. The drive is approximately an hour and 45 minutes from downtown Orlando. 

You’ll do a self-guided tour after the kayak company representative meets you and gives you a laminated map and some brief instructions. Paddle near Cypress Trees and see turtles, ducks, birds, and a chance to see manatees during the winter season, when they swim to Florida’s warm waters.
