Footprint's Home Visits

Rebecca Williams graduated from the University of Southampton in 2006 with an Honours degree in Podiatry.

She started her own Private Practice in 2007 and has built up an extensive knowledge of Podiatric care in the last 12 years. She has dealt with a variety of conditions ranging from over-grown toenails to ulcer management, as well as gaining an insight into Vascular, Neurological, Dermatological and Biomechanical issues.  She is qualified to deal with patients who have illnesses that can have a significant impact on problems concerning the feet. These include Diabetes, Arthritis, Peripheral Vascular Disease and localised Skin Conditions.

In addition to her clinic, Rebecca spent two years working at the Peartree Rehabilitation Centre for those suffering  different levels of brain injury.

Southampton Podiatrist Rebecca Williams

Personal Testimony:  "Many people ask me 'why' and 'how' I can do this job. As a student I saw many people; both in this country and abroad, in great pain and suffering because of injuries/ailments to their feet. In my second year of University I was further inspired by the care given and the methods used in helping patients to recover and watched as they were restored back to full health. I have carried forward those methods learnt and have gained much experience over the years. Foot pain of any kind can be debilitating and can have a massive impact on every day life. The continual realisation of just how important it is to care for feet and the privilege of being able to help relieve the burden of pain that many people endure answers both the 'how' and 'why' questions on a daily basis"

I have been attending the Stepwise clinic for several years for routine foot care. I mainly see Sarah but also a couple of the other podiatrists in her absence. They are all absolutely brilliant and would highly recommend the clinic to anyone. They offer a totally professional and friendly service. My husband recently attended to have a wart removed. He is delighted with the results.
Amazing... I was very anxious leading up to my appointment as I haven't done anything like this before. Very professional and relaxed. Can have a laugh during you appointment too! I encourage more men to take the leap if needed.
Hey I have been using the services of Stepwise for many years. Always very good and customer focused. Excellent team of practitioners.

SOLES AND TOES FOOT CLINIC REVIEWS

This was my first ever appointment to have my feet given an 'MOT.' I had avoided going for many years because I was ashamed of my feet. What a load of nonsense that turned out to be! Nadine instantly put me at ease and reassured me that my feet were nowhere near as awful as I thought they were! She was really friendly and reassuring. I thought the first appointment would just be a consultation but Nadine treated my feet and sorted out many of the problems immediately! I left the appointment with an agreed plan of action for my feet as well as some treatment creams. However, at no point did Nadine pressure me to buy them from her clinic. I respected that. Likewise, neither did she attempt to pressure me to book another appointment. However, I have booked my next appointment - it would be stupid not to! My feet already feel lighter, much more comfortable and I know what I need to do to keep my feet healthy.
I cannot recommend soles and toes foot clinic enough. I had a verruca cluster for over 5 years because I didn't know what it was and I had a traumatic experience at the doctor's when I originally went to get it diagnosed; and it took 6 months but it's finally gone! Nadine is so lovely and so personable it's definitely the most fun I've ever had at a medical appointment and I'm actually going to miss seeing her every couple of weeks. It's definitely an investment as you may have to go back every week or every few weeks for a long period, like I did, but it's very much worth it to finally get your feet healthy again.
I have had an appointment every 3-4 months for the past year and the improvement I have seen is fantastic. Nadine has an excellent personality and shows genuine interest in me as a customer and my feet. Would definitely recommend. Prices very reasonable.

Home visiting Chiropodist/Podiatrist Service in East Dorset area.

Sam moore - bsc (hons) podiatry, mrcpod..

Hello, my name is Sam Moore, and I am a HCPC registered Podiatrist, also called a Chriopodist.

I qualified from Southampton University in 2011, with a BSc (Hons) degree in Podiatry, and have worked for both the NHS and in private practice as a Podiatrist.

I live in Corfe Mullen, Dorset, and when I'm not working, I can be found spending time with my dog Abi, and my horse Rocky

What do I do?

The most important thing to me is to do everything I can to keep people's feet as comfortable and pain free as I can, and to help people to keep their feet healthy, especially people that cannot get to a clinic and need a home visit.

People often say they are embarassed by the condition of their feet, but they shouldn't be, we can always help, and with some TLC they will improve with time.

When I come to see you, I will first discuss with you any medical conditions and medications you may be taking, and carry out an assessment of your feet, to see how best I can help with them.

I will then carry out any treatment needed, such as cutting, thinning and filing nails, removing any corns, callus (hard skin), and creaming with good quality foot cream.

I will then discuss with you any other foot conditions that may be present, such as fungal nails, verruca, althetes foot, dry skin etc. and see how best to treat them.

What area's do I cover?

The main areas I cover are - Corfe Mullen, Upton, Hamworthy, Lytchett Matravers, Broadstone, Sturminster Marshall, Wimborne (including rural areas), Verwood, West Moors, St Leonards.

If you are not sure if you are in the areas I cover, please feel free to either call or email me, and I will see if I can help.

Please call 07415736767 or email me to arrange a visit.

Woman having her feet treated

  • Please enter a valid postcode

It’s essential that we all take good care of our feet in later life. It lowers our risk of having a fall and reduces our risk of infection, as well as relieving pain. Age UK’s foot care services help older people who are unable to look after their feet.

Basic foot care services

Over 80 local Age UKs have trained workers who will provide a basic level of foot care, such as toenail cutting, and can offer general guidance on how to take the best care of your feet.

Podiatry services

In areas with a qualified podiatrist, Age UK can offer a more enhanced service such as treating verrucas, athlete’s foot and bunions. If this service is unavailable, they may be able to signpost you to an NHS podiatrist.

This service can be accessed in a number of places:

  • At an Age UK foot care clinic
  • At home, if you are housebound
  • At one of our day centres

Contact your local Age UK to book an appointment and to find out more about what care it provides. There may be a charge for the service depending on where you live.

Exceptions from using our foot care service

Please note that you may not be eligible to access these services or may require a more specialised service if you have diabetes or are taking certain medications such as warfarin.

Check with your local Age UK if you are unsure if you are eligible.

Education and training to become a podiatrist.

The practice of the podiatrist profession requires a scientific bachelor's degree. The student will acquire their preliminary knowledge in anatomy and biology. Afterward, they must obtain a state diploma in podiatry, which takes three to four years and corresponds to a level of a bachelor's degree. There are several different courses that can be followed in preparation for the entrance exam in schools that grant the diploma. It is possible, for instance, to obtain the PACES by completing the first year of medicine at the university. Additionally, there are also paid preparatory programs available so that one can better understand the admission tests at the training institutes. Moreover, podiatry can be a skill that overlaps with other medical activities. Physiotherapists can choose to be trained in this field. To do so, they may resume their studies or participate in a specific qualifying program.

The field of intervention of a podiatrist.

The profession of podiatrist is considered a paramedical activity. It is a profession that is absolutely inseparable from pedicure, since the training offers simultaneous learning of both professions (pedicure-podiatry). The goal of a pedicure is foot hygiene care, but also foot beauty, involving either skin care or nail care. The podiatrist, on the other hand, must create devices, prostheses, orthoses, insoles, or medical devices to treat foot disorders. He or she is also required to perform screening, then a podiatric assessment. Some practitioners may choose to practice both of these intimately linked competencies. In fact, podiatry is often closely associated with foot care. Pedicures are particularly useful for prosthetic adaptations. The placement of orthopedic insoles can also reduce certain conditions that cause ingrown toenails. The vast majority of pedicurists-podiatrists work independently and open their own private practice alone or with a partner. Some positions are available in hospitals and clinics, such as rehabilitation, geriatrics, reflexology, physical therapy, osteopathy, or rheumatology.

Why should one consult a podiatrist?

• For young children, starting on the right foot is essential. Parents should not hesitate to seek advice from a podiatrist. • Many ailments that we often don't realize such as lower back pain, knee pain, muscle and joint pain, and loss of balance in the elderly are all due to neglected foot problems. It's difficult to walk, and pain itself can induce more or less secondary pain or damage. This is why many problems can be discovered and simply resolved by consulting a podiatrist. • In the case of certain chronic conditions like diabetes, regular preventive consultations with a podiatrist are necessary. It's crucial to maintain foot health integrity to prevent a certain degree of disease complications. Indeed, diabetic patients are responsible for nearly 15,000 amputations each year due to poorly managed complications.

When to consult a podiatrist?

Seek the services of a podiatrist as soon as you feel foot pain, whether it is in the sole of the foot, the heel, the ankle, or the toes. You can also see a podiatrist if you notice that your shoes are wearing out unusually, especially if they are too asymmetrical, severe, or fast. A postural podiatrist can also be consulted if you experience back, knee, or hip pain, as these pains are often caused by a postural problem. If you have painful toes, podiatrists can create orthotics, which will provide immediate and quick relief of toe pain caused by shoe friction.

How to find a podiatrist?

Your general practitioner may recommend a podiatrist for you. You can also visit the Starofservice directory to book an appointment online. This will quickly connect you with reliable practitioners in your area.

The prices of a podiatrist.

A consultation with a podiatrist under sector 1 and 2 agreements costs €27 without exceeding the standard fees. In case of exceeding the standard fees, consultation fees range between €27 and €40 on average. The cost of custom-made orthotics and insoles depends on the patient's shoe size. The fees range from €25 to €29 without exceeding the standard fees. If the practitioner exceeds the standard fees (which often happens), the cost of orthotics and insoles varies between €60 and sometimes more than €100.

How to choose a podiatrist well?

Less known in the world of healthcare, podiatrists are experts in treating skin and nail conditions of the feet. As with any healthcare professional, choosing this specialist should be taken seriously. In addition to the professional qualities recognized by the state diploma of chiropodist-podiatrist, the practitioner must demonstrate certain personal values. What criteria should be taken into account when choosing the ideal specialist? • Respect for regulations and the code of ethics; • The practitioner's experience; • Their specialization; • The services offered; • The fee charged.

Questions to ask a foot specialist (podiatrist) during the first interaction.

Since what year has the clinic been open? What do you feel during a session? What do you feel after a session? When is the best time to schedule an appointment? Is it normal for a corn to come back after foot care? What is the appropriate frequency for treatment? Do you sterilize the equipment used (nail clippers, files, razors, etc.)? Should orthopedic insoles be worn for life? What is the lifespan of an orthopedic insole? From what age can children wear orthopedic insoles? Are there risks of foot amputation in diabetic patients? What are your rates?

Foot Care for Diabetics

Having diabetes means you are at a much greater risk of developing foot problems. But understanding how diabetes affects feet can help you avoid these complications. Raised blood glucose levels, also known as blood sugar, can damage the sensation in your feet. This can also affect your circulation, which can lead to you getting less blood supply to your feet. Without a good blood supply you may have problems with cuts and sores healing. If you don’t get these foot problems treated, they could lead to foot ulcers, infections and, at worst, amputations. Most foot problems can be prevented with good, regular footcare and inspection.

Shohei Ohtani stays hot, crushing another homer as Dodgers split series with Angels

The Dodgers continued two important trends Saturday night.

Shohei Ohtani stayed hot, hitting another home run against his former team in the Dodgers’ 7-2 win over the Angels at Dodger Stadium.

The bottom of the Dodgers’ lineup remained productive, too, getting six hits and five runs from the last four spots to split a two-game weekend Freeway Series.

Ohtani’s home run continued his scorching week at the plate. In seven games since last Sunday — for the last six of which he has been the team’s leadoff hitter in place of the injured Mookie Betts — the slugger is batting .481 (13 for 27) with seven home runs, 12 RBIs, seven walks and only two strikeouts.

Shohei Ohtani’s career was once marked by his heroics paired with losses. Now he plays for the Dodgers and they are playing for bigger goals.

His two-run homer Saturday was a line-drive rocket that landed halfway up the right-field pavilion. Traveling an estimated 459 feet, it marked his fourth blast of at least 450 feet this week. And it gave him big flies in both of this weekend’s games against the Angels — his first against the club since signing with the Dodgers in the offseason.

“It definitely doesn’t get old,” manager Dave Roberts said. “Where he’s at right now, if the ball is in his hitting zone, it’s gonna be hit hard somewhere.”

While Ohtani might be at the wheel of the Dodgers’ offense, though, it’s a once-struggling bottom half of the order that is helping fuel the team’s recent resurgence at the plate.

A month ago, the club’s Nos. 6-9 hitters were among the worst in the majors, compiling a .194 batting average over the season’s first 46 games that ranked better than only the Oakland Athletics.

“It’s still a really good lineup, and we know it’s gonna flip,” second baseman Gavin Lux , one of the culprits behind the group’s early-season struggles, said in late May. “But yeah, I think we all expect more out of ourselves.”

Fast-forward a month, and the Dodgers (48-31) have seen their fortunes indeed change.

Entering Saturday, the team’s bottom-half hitters were batting .243 since May 17, ranking a solid 14th in MLB during that stretch.

Gavin Lux gets a face full of sunflower seeds.

Then, in their win over the Angels (30-46), they had one of their best collective games yet, getting two hits each from Lux, Miguel Rojas and Cavan Biggio, plus two walks from Jason Heyward.

“This is it,” Roberts said. “It just takes the pressure off the top.”

Lux, the No. 8 hitter, opened the scoring with a towering leadoff home run off a nine-pitch at-bat in the third inning, recording just his second long ball of the season and first since May 7.

Rojas, batting seventh, extended one of the season’s more intriguing statistical trends: In games he has a hit, the Dodgers are 22-0.

Biggio had his best game as a Dodger in the nine-hole, continuing to fill in for injured third baseman Max Muncy — whose return from an oblique strain remains unclear, lasting much longer than initially anticipated (Muncy said one issue is that his entire oblique was affected, not just one isolated area).

The No. 6 hitter Heyward, whose return from a back injury on May 17 has been a key factor in the recent bottom-half production, also aided the cause with his two walks, keeping his OPS this season above .800.

“A lot of this year, we’ve been very top-heavy,” Roberts said. “But when you get those guys at the bottom collectively [hitting], it just makes our offense tough to navigate.”

The lineup was so good, it allowed Roberts to begin a new trend that figures to become more common over the remainder of the season.

Staff ace Tyler Glasnow had a stellar start, giving up only two runs (one earned) on two hits in a seven-inning, 10-strikeout gem. However, with the Dodgers up 7-2 at the end of the seventh, Roberts decided to pull him after just 74 pitches.

Tyler Glasnow pitches for the Dodgers.

The reason: Glasnow is now at 100 innings this season, just 20 short of the career-high he set a season ago.

The Dodgers aren’t planning to have the right-hander skip starts or take any break before October. But they are going to be “mindful” of his workload in smaller ways, Roberts said.

Thanks to Ohtani’s blast at the top of the lineup, and the continued ample production at the bottom, Saturday provided the perfect opportunity.

“It’s just about longevity, trying to stay healthy and do this thing until playoffs,” Glasnow said. “The long game is what we’re after.”

Clayton Kershaw feeling soreness

Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw walks back to the dugout before a game against the Cincinnati Reds on May 18.

Clayton Kershaw threw a bullpen session Saturday, but reported feeling some soreness in his surgically repaired shoulder in the wake of his first minor-league rehab start last week, Roberts said.

The Dodgers will monitor how Kershaw, who is scheduled to pitch next Tuesday for triple-A Oklahoma City, feels in the coming days. Roberts said it’s possible his next rehab outing on Tuesday will get pushed back.

“It’s going to be talking to him, talking to the training staff, seeing if he feels good to make it,” Roberts said, noting that some soreness was to be expected after Kershaw’s first real game since his shoulder surgery last November. “[He’ll play] catch play tomorrow. If he feels good, great. If it doesn’t, we’ll just keep kicking it down the road until he’s ready … We have time.”
