On the subject of Ukraine, Golda Meir, who was born in Kyiv, spent a large portion of her childhood in Wisconsin. Her family fled the anti-Semitic violence and pogroms of eastern Europe in 1906, settling in Milwaukee with the help of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. She attended school and taught at a Yiddish-speaking school in Milwaukee. She moved to a kibbutz in what is now Israel in 1921, became influential in the Zionist movement and signed the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948. She was 71 years old in when she became prime minister of Isreal in 1969.

Green Bay City Council approves another Kwik Trip on the west side

GREEN BAY - Kwik Trip on Tuesday got the go-ahead to convert a now-vacant strip mall into its 23rd convenience store in the Green Bay area.

The Green Bay City Council approved a modified version of the La Crosse-based retailer's conditional use permit request to build a 9,000-square-foot convenience store in the 1000 block of West Mason Street.

Kwik Trip plans to build the store on a 2.8-acre parcel along West Mason Street between Ashland Avenue and South Oneida Street. The site currently is occupied by two retail strip centers, a former Subway and an office building, all already vacant.

Green Bay approved modification in response to neighbors' input

Kwik Trip originally submitted a site plan for 1007-1009 W. Mason St. that included three entrances, one each on West Mason Street, Gross Avenue and Gross Court.

Residents of the neighborhood south of the site raised concerns about the Gross Court entrance during an informational meeting in February, and city staff recommended it be removed.

The staff report provided to council recommended Kwik Trip install a 4-foot buffer along Gross Court instead. The buffer could be a wall, a fence, a berm, plantings or some combination of those, provided it is at least 4 feet tall and blocks the site from the view of neighbors to the south.

A Kwik Trip spokesperson said the recommended changed was acceptable from its standpoint.

Stormwater relief and more green space included in Kwik Trip's plan

There isn't much of the site right now that isn't building or paved parking lot.

Kwik Trip's plans would add extensive landscaping and a stormwater detention pond on the eastern portion of the site. The city staff report indicates the detention pond should help alleviate some stormwater issues the surrounding neighborhood experiences.

When will the West Mason Street Kwik Trip open?

The company previously said it intends to add the store to its 2025 construction schedule.

Kwik Trip will sell Blueberry Dunker potato chips for a limited time

Blueberry-doughnut-flavored potato chips? Leave it to Kwik Trip to create them.

The La Crosse-based convenience-store chain announced Monday that it will debut Blueberry Dunker-flavored Urge potato chips this weekend in its stores.

Kwik Trip debuted the Blueberry Dunker donut in 2013 and produced more than 9 million of them in the last year, according to a company news release.

“We wanted this based off a popular item and, after taste testing a few options, the sweet and salty combination of the Blueberry Dunker was a real winner,” said Will Churchill, Kwik Trip's director of category management.

It's the second doughnut-inspired chip Kwik Trip has introduced, after Glazers-flavored chips came out in 2019.

The chips will ship to stores Saturday and will be available for a limited time, the company said.

Kwik Trip announced a new "Urge" brand potato chip coming to stores this weekend. The gas station posted a picture of the new "Blueberry Dunker Donut" ripple potato chip on X.

The chips are already drawing mixed reactions. Some comments on X accused Kwik Trip of going too far, while others commented that they would get multiple bags.

Kwik Trip said the chips will be in almost 900 stores beginning on Saturday. The chips will be available for a limited time only, but Kwik Trip did not say when they will leave stores.

Kwik Trip also sold a limited-time "Glazer" potato chip in 2019.

Green bay packers 2024 schedule: full list of home and away opponents, share this article.

The NFL will release the full 2024 regular season schedule on Wednesday, May 15.

The Green Bay Packers know their first opponent and location: vs. the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil on Friday night in Week 1.

The NFL’s opener will be between the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night in Week 1.

An offer for Packers fans

Overall, Matt LaFleur’s team will play nine games at home (NFC’s year to have nine home games) and eight on the road, although the Week 1 trip to Brazil counts as a “home” game for the Eagles — negating a road trip to play in Philadelphia.

The Packers get their annual six games against the NFC North, plus four games against the NFC West and four games against the AFC South. The other three games were determined by finish during the 2023 season.

Packers Schedule Leaks: Colts, 49ers, Texans Game Dates

GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay Packers’ 2024 NFL schedule will be revealed on Wednesday, and a few of the games have been leaked.

After the Week 1 showdown against the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil, the Packers will host the Indianapolis Colts, according to Packer Report . Marques Eversoll of Green Bay radio station WDUZ reported a few other games, including November home games against the Houston Texans and San Francisco 49ers.

Here’s what has been reported.

Week 1: Packers vs. Eagles (Brazil), 7:15 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6.

Week 2: Packers vs. Colts on Sunday, Sept. 15

Week 8: Packers at Jaguars on Sunday, Oct. 27

Week 9: Packers vs. Texans on Sunday, Nov. 3

Week 12: Packers vs. 49ers on Sunday, Nov. 24

The Week 2 game against the Colts will mark a monster weekend of football in the state. On Saturday, Sept. 14, the Wisconsin Badgers will host the Alabama Crimson tide. A day later (or two days later, former Wisconsin star Jonathan Taylor and the Colts will play at Lambeau Field.

Both teams finished 9-8 last season. The Packers got to the playoffs and routed Dallas in the wild-card round. The Colts, even with rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson missing most of the season with a shoulder injury, probably would have made the playoffs had former Packers running back Tyler Goodson not dropped a fourth-and-goal pass in the final moments against Houston.

Richardson is back, leading to hope the Colts will return to the playoffs for the first time since 2020.

“To hear him talk through some of the footwork things, all the fundamentals and details of the quarterback position, to hear what he had been working on with the guys that he works out with, and how he was doing that in conjunction with getting back healthy, it didn’t sound like a rookie quarterback who just showed up from the draft,” offensive coordinator Jim Bob Cooter told Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer . “Anthony was extremely professional with how he was discussing those things with Cam Turner and some of the other guys around the building.

“It was evident we didn’t have a rookie on our hands anymore. That was for sure.”

The Colts hope there’s a benefit in Richardson watching veteran Gardner Minshew, just as there was for Packers quarterback Jordan Love sitting behind Aaron Rodgers.

“You never want to see it,” Colts coach Shane Steichen told Breer. “You never want to see your guy get hurt. But you try to look at the positive in it. You have some time to sit back and look at things from a different perspective. Obviously, the best way you learn is by playing, so missing that time is tough. But you gotta look at the flip side of it, of, ‘What can I get out of it now that I am hurt? What am I putting into it? How am I going to get better by not being on the field?’”

Even without Richardson, the Colts finished 10th in scoring last season. That side of the ball should be strong with Taylor joined by the receiver trio of third-year player Michael Pittman, second-year player Josh Downs and rookie Adonai Mitchell penciled in as starters.

Defensively, the Colts finished 28th in points allowed, 10th in yards allowed per rushing attempt, 22nd in yards allowed per passing attempt and eighth in sack percentage. That strong pass rush should be bolstered by first-round pick Laiatu Latu.

The season will kick off on Friday, Sept. 6, in São Paulo, Brazil, against the Eagles, who have reached the playoffs three consecutive years and six times in the last seven years. In 2022, Philadelphia won the Super Bowl; in 2023, it finished 11-6 and lost a wild-card round game to the Buccaneers.

Coach Matt LaFleur was not thrilled about the Packers having to play the Giants in London in 2022. He was singing a different tune after the draft, though. No doubt getting to play the Eagles at a neutral site rather than in Philadelphia was a reason.

“We will embrace this, absolutely,” he said. “I know it is a long flight, it is a long trip, but it’s the same for both teams. The advantage of playing a neutral-site game, I think, there’s a lot of advantages of that.”

The Packers in 2024 will play seven games against teams that reached the playoffs last year. That includes a home-and-home against the NFC North-champion Detroit Lions and the opener against the Eagles. Also on the docket: home games against the San Francisco 49ers, who knocked the Packers out of the playoffs last year en route to reaching the Super Bowl, the AFC South-champion Houston Texans and the AFC wild-card Miami Dolphins. The only other road game against a playoff team will be against the NFC wild-card Los Angeles Rams.

The Packers were scheduled to have nine home games and eight road games. One of those road games is against the Eagles, so the breakdown is nine at Lambeau, seven on the road and one neutral site.

* San Francisco 49ers: 12-5 (NFC West and NFC champion).

Indianapolis Colts: 9-8 (third place, AFC South).

New Orleans Saints: 9-8 (second place, NFC South). Packers went 1-0 in 2023.

* Miami Dolphins: 11-6 (second place, AFC East; wild card).

Packers Road Games in 2024

* Philadelphia Eagles: 11-6 (second place, NFC East; wild card). Game will be played in Brazil.

Jacksonville Jaguars: 9-8 (second place, AFC South).

Tennessee Titans: 6-11 (last place, AFC South).

The new potato chips, inspired by the popular blueberry dunker donuts, will hit shelves starting may 18 at kwik trip..

Kwik Trip shoppers can now find Blueberry Dunker-flavored potato chips for a limited time.

The convenience store announced on social media Monday the reveal of its new Blueberry Dunker-flavored URGE potato chips. The new product will hit shelves this weekend, starting May 18. The new flavored snack is a nod at Kwik Trip’s popular Blueberry Dunker Donuts, which debuted in 2013. Last year, the company made more than 9 million Blueberry Dunkers.

Will Churchill, Kwik Trip’s director of category management, said the company wanted to create a new product based on one of its popular products. After testing various options, the Blueberry Dunker chips were the winner, combining sweet and salty flavors.

Kwik Trip has been telling its followers it had an announcement to share for the last few weeks , teasing something big was coming via its social media pages.

“The launch of this new product has been a fun one for our team to tease on social media these past few weeks,” said Paige Geary, Kwik Trip’s social media supervisor.

The company shipped the new chips to all of its influencers early, giving them the opportunity to taste test the products and share their thoughts on their social media platforms before everyone else can find them in stores.

This is the second time Kwik Trip has been inspired by a doughnut while creating a limited-time snack. In 2019, the brand launched Glazers-flavored chips . The idea for that chip started from an April Fool’s Day joke three years prior. Employees and customers loved the idea, and Kwik Trip worked to make it a reality.

Kwik Trip started out as a neighborhood grocery store, opening its first location in Eau Claire in 1965. The second store opened in 1971 in its now home-base, La Crosse. In the last 59 years, the convenience store and gas station has continued to grow, both in physical locations and in popularity, largely because of its social media presence that interacts with its followers on a whole new level.

USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin talked with the company about its social media presence and growing popularity in 2022 . Kwik Trip team members shared how the business shifted its entire digital marketing strategy from focusing on products to focusing on people and developing a brand voice to humanize the company and its content. It's the type of social interaction that can take an April Fool's Day joke and develop new products for its guests.

Savvino-storozhevsky monastery and museum.

Zvenigorod's most famous sight is the Savvino-Storozhevsky Monastery, which was founded in 1398 by the monk Savva from the Troitse-Sergieva Lavra, at the invitation and with the support of Prince Yury Dmitrievich of Zvenigorod. Savva was later canonised as St Sabbas (Savva) of Storozhev. The monastery late flourished under the reign of Tsar Alexis, who chose the monastery as his family church and often went on pilgrimage there and made lots of donations to it. Most of the monastery’s buildings date from this time. The monastery is heavily fortified with thick walls and six towers, the most impressive of which is the Krasny Tower which also serves as the eastern entrance. The monastery was closed in 1918 and only reopened in 1995. In 1998 Patriarch Alexius II took part in a service to return the relics of St Sabbas to the monastery. Today the monastery has the status of a stauropegic monastery, which is second in status to a lavra. In addition to being a working monastery, it also holds the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum.

Belfry and Neighbouring Churches

Located near the main entrance is the monastery's belfry which is perhaps the calling card of the monastery due to its uniqueness. It was built in the 1650s and the St Sergius of Radonezh’s Church was opened on the middle tier in the mid-17th century, although it was originally dedicated to the Trinity. The belfry's 35-tonne Great Bladgovestny Bell fell in 1941 and was only restored and returned in 2003. Attached to the belfry is a large refectory and the Transfiguration Church, both of which were built on the orders of Tsar Alexis in the 1650s.  

To the left of the belfry is another, smaller, refectory which is attached to the Trinity Gate-Church, which was also constructed in the 1650s on the orders of Tsar Alexis who made it his own family church. The church is elaborately decorated with colourful trims and underneath the archway is a beautiful 19th century fresco.

Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is the oldest building in the monastery and among the oldest buildings in the Moscow Region. It was built between 1404 and 1405 during the lifetime of St Sabbas and using the funds of Prince Yury of Zvenigorod. The white-stone cathedral is a standard four-pillar design with a single golden dome. After the death of St Sabbas he was interred in the cathedral and a new altar dedicated to him was added.

Under the reign of Tsar Alexis the cathedral was decorated with frescoes by Stepan Ryazanets, some of which remain today. Tsar Alexis also presented the cathedral with a five-tier iconostasis, the top row of icons have been preserved.

Tsaritsa's Chambers

The Nativity of Virgin Mary Cathedral is located between the Tsaritsa's Chambers of the left and the Palace of Tsar Alexis on the right. The Tsaritsa's Chambers were built in the mid-17th century for the wife of Tsar Alexey - Tsaritsa Maria Ilinichna Miloskavskaya. The design of the building is influenced by the ancient Russian architectural style. Is prettier than the Tsar's chambers opposite, being red in colour with elaborately decorated window frames and entrance.

At present the Tsaritsa's Chambers houses the Zvenigorod Historical, Architectural and Art Museum. Among its displays is an accurate recreation of the interior of a noble lady's chambers including furniture, decorations and a decorated tiled oven, and an exhibition on the history of Zvenigorod and the monastery.

Palace of Tsar Alexis

The Palace of Tsar Alexis was built in the 1650s and is now one of the best surviving examples of non-religious architecture of that era. It was built especially for Tsar Alexis who often visited the monastery on religious pilgrimages. Its most striking feature is its pretty row of nine chimney spouts which resemble towers.
