'strong and sustained demand' for jet2's new bournemouth flights.
Jet2.com and Jet2holidays is experiencing "strong and sustained demand" for its new Bournemouth flights, launching next summer.
The airline and operator last month revealed Bournemouth as its 12th UK base whereby it put up to 27 weekly flights on sale to 16 destinations.
These include options across Europe and the Mediterranean, as well as mainland Spain, the Canary Islands and Portugal’s Madeira.
Jet2 hailed the response to the launch "truly phenomenal" unlocking "years of demand" from customers and independent agents in Bournemouth, Southampton and Portsmouth, and the south of England more widely.

The top five performing destinations from Bournemouth so far are Antalya, Tenerife, Dalaman, Majorca and Rhodes. The inaugural flight from the two-aircraft base will depart for Tenerife on 1 April.
Jet2 said it had seen "strong and sustained demand" since going on sale at Bournemouth, with "thousands of holidaymakers" booking since flights and holidays went on sale.
Steve Heapy, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays chief executive, said: “We know customers and independent travel agents had been waiting keenly for us to make this move, and the reaction to the launch has reflected this.
"From day one, and over the past four weeks, the response to our flights and holidays going on sale from Bournemouth airport has been truly phenomenal, and we are delighted at how well the launch has been received. Customers and independent travel agents are clearly relishing the chance to book."
Heapy added: "Since launching one month ago today [26 April], we saw an immediate surge in bookings from Bournemouth airport, and that demand shows no sign of slowing down."

Frustrated holidaymakers continue to face major disruption after an air traffic control issue grounded flights on Monday.
Passengers have been warned delays could last for days, while some were left stranded in airports after flights were cancelled yesterday. By Monday afternoon, 232 flights departing UK airports had been cancelled and 271 arriving flights, according to aviation analytics firm Cirium.
This equates to about 8% of all expected departures and 9% of expected arrivals, Cirium added. The cancellations have spilled into today (Tuesday August 29), with popular airline Jet2 cancelling dozens of flights and rescheduling others.

Jet2 upgrades profits forecast as holidaymakers look to escape 'our rainy island'
The package holiday firm said winter bookings were up 17% on the previous year - with earnings also likely to be boosted by Easter coming earlier in 2024 and the extra leap year day in February.
By Daniel Binns, business reporter
Thursday 15 February 2024 17:46, UK
Jet2 has upgraded its profit forecast for the financial year amid a recent surge in demand for foreign trips.
The package holiday firm said winter bookings were up 17% on the previous year - with earnings also likely to be boosted by the extra leap year day in February and Easter coming earlier in 2024.
Jet2 said demand for breaks in the sun came despite ongoing cost of living pressures on households - and said it showed customers "cherish their time away from our rainy island".
It said profits before tax in the year ending 31 March were likely to be between £510m and £525m - up from previous forecasts of £480m to £520m.
The company said bookings for the next financial year were encouraging, with summer 2024 package holiday customers also up by 17% so far.
Chief executive officer Steve Heapy said: "We are pleased with how the 2024 financial year is ending and are encouraged by early bookings for summer 2024.
"While recognising that there are many demands on consumer discretionary incomes, we believe that our customers cherish their time away from our rainy island and want to be properly looked after throughout their holiday experience."

A trading update from Jet2 on Thursday said the upturn was also a reflection of an increase in the company's seat capacity, including via the delivery of five new Airbus planes.
The firm said it was "confident" customers would continue travelling with it to destinations in the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and European cities in the year ahead.
However, it added: "While pricing for summer 2024 across both our leisure travel products is currently showing an increase compared to the same period last year, we remain mindful of the current macro-economic and geo-political environments and how these could impact future consumer spending."
Jet2's preliminary results for the financial year will be released in July.

Jet2 issues alert for customers about 2024 holiday prices
The airline said prices have recently become 'more competitive'
- 14:00, 24 APR 2024
Jet2 has hinted at a cooling in holiday prices as we approach the summer.
The airline and holiday company suggested that the surge in post-pandemic cost hikes might be calming down due to increased competition in the travel industry. It reported that, while there's been a "modest increase" in the price of trips for the upcoming summer compared to last year, recent pricing has become "more competitive, particularly for April and May departures".
In their latest trading update, Jet2 reported that bookings for package holidays and flight-only options have risen by 13% and 18% respectively for the summer season when compared to the same period last year. This news could signal to holidaymakers that the spike in vacation costs may not be as steep this year as it was previously.

Back in November, Jet2 announced an average trip price hike of 11%, while some airlines had reported increases up to 26% over the last summer. Russ Mould, an analyst at AJ Bell, said: "This could be a sign that the pricing power enjoyed by the sector, with people prepared to pay whatever it takes to get their week in the sun, is starting to ease."
However, Jet2's shares took a 5% hit in Wednesday morning trading following investor concerns sparked by the firm's remarks on pricing. Despite this, the group has indicated robust demand for the peak season, with 55% of its summer seats and holiday packages already sold and an increase in seat availability by 12.3% from last year, totalling 17.1 million seats.
Jet2 has revealed that it has already secured 90% of its fuel for the upcoming season and over 80% for the entire financial year, reducing its vulnerability to potential oil price fluctuations due to Middle East tensions. Despite last week's surge in oil prices amid concerns of escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, prices have since fallen as tensions seem to have eased.
The airline stated that while it remains aware of the current macro-economic and geopolitical climates and their potential impact on consumer spending, it is unable to provide guidance for the full year 2024-25 as nearly half of the summer tickets are yet to be sold.
However, Jet2 anticipates a pre-tax profit for the year ending March 31, 2024, to be about one-third higher than the previous year, ranging between £515 million and £520 million.
Jet2 CEO Steve Heapy expressed confidence in the company's future, stating: "Although still very early in full-year 2025, we remain confident that customers will continue to travel with us from our rainy island to the sun spots of the Mediterranean, the Canary Islands and to European leisure cities."

Jet2 reports ‘phenomenal’ bookings from Bournemouth
Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have revealed their most popular destinations from Bournemouth, a month after flights and packages from the airport went on sale.
Jet2 said it’s seen ‘strong and sustained demand’ since its Bournemouth 2025 programme went on sale last month. Its inaugural flight from the airport will depart to Tenerife on 1 April 2025, and two aircraft will be based at Bournemouth next year.
The top five performing destinations from Bournemouth Airport are Antalya, Tenerife, Dalaman, Majorca and Rhodes, although Jet2 said sales are strong to all 16 summer destinations, including through independent travel agents.
In their first summer of operations from Bournemouth, Jet2.com and Jet2holidays will operate up to 27 weekly flights, to the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands, Turkey, Greece, mainland Spain, Portugal and Madeira. Two destinations, Fuerteventura and Madeira, are exclusive from Bournemouth Airport.
CEO Steve Heapy said the response has been ‘truly phenomenal’. He said: “We know that customers and independent travel agents had been waiting keenly for us to make this move, and the reaction to the launch has reflected this.” “We are delighted at how well the launch has been received. Customers and independent travel agents are clearly relishing the chance to book our flights and holidays.”
He added: “Since launching one month ago today, we saw an immediate surge in bookings from Bournemouth Airport, and that demand shows no sign of slowing down. Between now and 1 April 2025, when our first flight departs from Bournemouth Airport, we are focusing relentlessly on getting everything ready.”

Bournemouth airport set for 2025 fares war as Jet2 moves in
B ournemouth airport is set to become the location for intense competition between airlines. Jet2 has announced the Dorset airport will become its 12th UK base from next spring.
Jet2 will deploy two aircraft on a range of Mediterranean and Atlantic island routes.
The inaugural flight from Bournemouth to Tenerife on 1 April 2025, will be followed by 15 other new links – almost all of which are already flown by other carriers, Tui and Ryanair . It signals intensified competition against Tui – which Jet2 Holidays overtook in terms of package passengers last year .
The only two Jet2 routes with no competition are Fuerteventura in Spain ’s Canary Islands and Funchal, Madeira.
On four of the routes – Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Palma and Tenerife – the new arrival will compete with both Ryanair and Tui.
Other Jet2 links are up against Tui competition:
- Antalya and Dalaman in Turkey
- Corfu, Heraklion, Rhodes and Zante in Greece
- Ibiza and Menorca in Spain’s Balearic islands
In addition, Jet2 will take on Ryanair to Alicante and Faro.
Jet2’s chief executive, Steve Heapy, said: “We know that customers and independent travel agents have been asking us for a long time to make this move, so we are absolutely delighted to be announcing today that Bournemouth airport will become our 12th UK base airport.
“As Which? Travel Brand of the Year, we know that our award-winning flights and holidays will be enormously popular across the region, and we cannot wait to show everyone what we are all about.”
“This latest expansion is a further demonstration of our confidence, and it reflects our long-term strategy to be the UK’s leading and best leisure travel business. We know that customers want to be properly looked after throughout their holiday experience.”
Bournemouth airport handled fewer than one million passengers last year, placing it 18th in the table for UK gateways. Manchester airport, a big Jet2 base, handles 30 times as many travellers.
Andrew Bell, chief executive of Regional and City Airports, which owns Bournemouth airport, said: “It will create new employment locally, add 16 fabulous new destinations from Bournemouth, up to 27 extra flights a week and will see an estimated additional 300,000 passengers using their local airport.
“This exciting partnership with Jet2 and Jet2holidays represents a step-change in establishing Bournemouth airport as a nationally significant regional hub for passenger air operations.”
The aviation schedule analyst, Sean Moulton, said: “Following Jet2’s expansion into London Stansted in 2017 and Bristol in 2021, the south has been a growing market for Jet2.
“Whilst Bournemouth will be the smallest of Jet2’s 12 bases, it will go head to head with Tui on several routes. Just two of the 16 routes being exclusive to Jet2 at Bournemouth demonstrates Jet2’s desire to compete head to head with Tui and to a certain extent Ryanair.
“If successful, this could lead to several smaller bases being opened up across the UK.”

Aviation results: European carriers EasyJet and Jet2 fly to new heights, while Airbus prepares to overtake Boeing as headwinds continue
It’s been a buoyant few days in the world of aviation.
As airlines and airports put the COVID-19 pandemic in the rear-view mirror, they’ve seen a significant boost in travelers over the last several months. It’s also an exciting time for the industry’s biggest players as they gear up for the critical summer season.
Elsewhere, airplane makers like Boeing and Airbus must tussle with shifting dynamics following a 737 Max jet accident that saw a panel flying off mid-air.
With a bumper week of earnings dropping, we took a look at how the travel sector’s most prominent players are faring and the outlook for the rest of 2024.
Boeing: Beating expectations, for now
Talk of Boeing’s widely publicized failures left many analysts predicting significant headwinds for the first quarter. But it beat analysts’ expectations , with a revenue of $16.6 billion, bringing losses down from $425 million to $355 million.
Still, Boeing’s problems are far from over. Its revenue dropped for the first time in seven quarters, as did its deliveries for the first three months of the year. The Seattle-based plane maker has also had massive costs looming over it, which will likely be an issue for the foreseeable months .
The 108-year-old company has had several safety problems in recent years , which prompted CEOs like United Airlines’s Scott Kirby and Ryanair’s Michael O’Leary to be vocal about their concerns with using Boeing aircraft.
But Boeing still seems confident about getting back on its feet in the near future.
“Near term, yes, we are in a tough moment,” Boeing CEO David Calhoun, who will step down as CEO at the end of this year, wrote in a memo to his employees . “Lower deliveries can be difficult for our customers and for our financials. But safety and quality must and will come above all else.”
Airbus: Preparing to overtake
The rivalry between Airbus and Boeing has amped up since the latter’s recent crisis—and it’s given Airbus the chance to widen its lead.
The European company, which is also the world’s largest aircraft maker, said on Thursday that it plans to expand its output of its A350 jets to cope with more demand. Its earnings, however, fell for the first quarter. Operating profits were lower by 25% to €577 million ($618.37 million) compared to a year earlier.
The airline is also spending a lot more this year on ramping up its production, resulting in higher costs.
On the bright side, Airbus’s deliveries for the first three months of 2024 were up 12%, pointing to the strong demand for aircraft.
“Basically we have a lot of issues,” Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury told analysts on Thursday, according to Reuters . “They are all manageable but the environment is a challenging one.”
EasyJet, Jet2: Flying to new highs
The excitement for summer is in the air—and EasyJet has already caught wind of it. The Pan-European low-cost carrier with British roots has seen travel demand bounce back amid bookings and higher ticket fares.
EasyJet upped its profit guidance last week after it reported better-than-expected half-year profits for the six months ending in March.
“Leisure demand has been strong as investors prioritize a week in the sun over buying other big-ticket items like sofas and TVs. It means airlines have had less disruption than other industries during the recent cost-of-living crisis,” Dan Coatsworth, investment analyst at AJ Bell, told Fortune .
Jet2, another low-cost airline, is also anticipating an exciting few months ahead—but also “more competitive” pricing. It increased its profit expectation for the year ended March by roughly 33% compared to a year earlier, seeing as packaging holiday and flight bookings were both up in the lead-up to peak travel time.
“Operationally we are well set for a successful Summer 2024 season,” Jet2 said in its earnings release Wednesday.
Elsewhere, the London-listed Hungarian budget carrier Wizz Air has also seen strong pricing in the lead-up to the summer. However, its engineering issues have pushed it to shift the expected profits for its financial year ending Mar. 31 down to the lower end of its original guidance, Wizz Air said in a trading statement Thursday . The full results are scheduled to come out in May.
Heathrow: Breaking records
The return of leisure travel has propelled Heathrow to record highs in passengers. In the first quarter, it received 18.5 million travelers—higher for a “traditionally quieter period of the year,” the group said in its results published Wednesday.
That moved the needle for Heathrow as its £60 million loss for the same period last year turned into a £189 million profit this year. The London airport also lifted its full-year expectations as it’s expecting the busy summer season.
The airport also had its first annual profit since the pandemic in 2023 , pointing to an upward trajectory for Heathrow.
The path looks generally “onward-and-upward” for aviation, barring a few instances of turbulence.
