Valderrama ready to host the LIV GOLF tournament from 30th June to 2nd July
12 Teams: Golfers in individual and team competitions. 48 Players: Small Fields. Shotgun starts: Action everywhere from the very first moment. No Cuts. LIV Golf is a professionsal tour series started in 2022 as an invitational series and in 2023 is a fully fledged tour series. It is financed by the sovereign wealth fund of Saudi Arabia. Valderrama was one of the first tournaments to be announced back on the 30th November 2022 three venues were simultaneously announced. These were Real Club Valderrama (30 June-2 July), El Camaleón Golf Course at Mayakoba, Mexico (24-26 February), Sentosa Golf Club in Singapore (28-30 April). The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide (21-23 April) was previously announced. The 2023 tour comprises 14, three day 54 hole tournaments.
Valderrama added to the LIV Golf with a tournament from 30th June to 2nd July 2023.
On 30th November 2022 the Saudi backed LIV Golf tour simultaneously announced three venues that will host tournaments on the LIV Golf League 2023. It is expected the 2023 tour will be made of 14 tournaments.
The prize purse for the 2023 season will be $405 million. LIV Golf, with the injection of Saudi capital, continues to make inroads against the traditional PGA (Professional golfers Association) and PGA European Tour (Professional Golfers Association) traditional tournaments. The battle between the LIV and the two PGA bodies is still raging and a number of golfers have already switched sides. The LIV Golf League claims its aim is to "do things differently" which is certainly true. With smaller fields, fewer rounds, a defined season, shorter playing windows, rousing American football style team names, and shotgun starts, the format is claimed to be designed with fans as the #1 priority.
The LIV tour features 12 teams or franchises named Aces, Crushers, Fireballs, Stingers, Smash, Majestics, Torque, Hyfliers, Iron Heads, Cleeks, Punch, Niblicks . Each team will have four players making 48 players in total. By comparison the PGA European Tour - Andalucia Masters event last October at Valderrama had 262 players and the traditional four rounds played over four days, the cut after two days meant spectators attending at the weekend were disappointed not to see many of the top golfers. The 2022 LIV tour had 12 events, the 2023 is expected to be increased to 14.
Each LIV Golf regular season event will essentially be two simultaneous competitions - an individual and team event. For the individual event, every stroke counts just like it always has (although with 54 holes, a fast start is even more important). The individual winner will be the player with the lowest 54-hole stroke play total. The player with the most ranking points after 7 events will be named the Individual Champion.
The Team Championship in is the final event of the season. This will be a seeded four-day, four-round, match play knock-out. The team event is where the scoring gets complicated. Over the first two rounds, the best two stroke play scores will count for each team. For the third and final round, the best three scores will count, with the lowest overall team score after 54 holes being named the team winner.
LIV Golf Valderrama date of 30 June to 2 July is scheduled one week before the prestigious British Open. Valderrama mentioned that it had signed a contract for five events over five years.
Players announced for the Valderrama event are Sergio García (Winning tournaments at Valderrama in 2011, 2017, 2018), Dustin Johnson, Cameron Smith, Eugenio López Chacarra and Phil Mickelson . Another Valderrama veteran expected to take part is Northern Ireland's McDowell (2010).
Tickets for Valderrama are available online on LIVGolf.com. Early Bird prices for one-day are form 42€ to 48€ and three-day passes (which include target practice and competitions) are 115€. Hospitality packages are also available.
The choice of Valderrama certainly raised eyebrows. The most traditional of clubs hosting the newest and polemic tour. The Andalucia Masters was the traditional October European Tour (rebranded DP world Tour ) event at Valderrama. However, the low and decreasing spectator attendance in October 2022 at Valderrama, in spite of the beautiful weather was most noticeable. The organisers have never released figures for the last few editions. Perhaps this never bothered the sponsors, since TV rights were their primary goal. Those that did attend were treated to a front row view of the top professional golfers on the tees and greens without even having to push to the front. There were rumours at Valderrama last October that the event would be switched to the summer. We did not pay attention as this would have flown in the face of a significant sponsors; Andalucia Tourist Board’s long-standing policy to combat seasonality (the large, uneconomic and inefficient difference between summer and winter tourist arrivals). Perhaps Valderrama's defection solves their attendance problem. We presume the Andalucia Masters tournament will now switch to a different course in the usual mid-October slot; the week after the Spanish Open in Madrid, and a course closer to the heart of the Costa del Sol.
Real Club Valderrama CEO Javier Reviriego said: "Real Club Valderrama has a rich history of hosting outstanding golf tournaments, and we are excited to begin this new partnership with LIV Golf. The quality of the players competing at Valderrama will no doubt attract many European fans eager to see some of the best golfers in the world. We will ensure that the golf course is presented in the best conditions and that it represents a real challenge, where accuracy and strategy will play a key role. There is no doubt that the five LIV Golf events we will be hosting over the next few years will further position Andalucía as one of the best golf destinations in the world."

LIV Tour Event to be Held at Valderrama in Summer 2023
There had been intense speculation since this year’s decaffeinated Andalucía Masters, and now the rumours have been confirmed officially. LIV Golf has announced that Royal Valderrama Club will host one of the renegade tour’s 14 events in 2023, from 30 June to 2 July.
The announcement follows reports in recent months that Valderrama had become increasingly irritated with the DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) at the diminishing status of the Estrella Damm N.A. Andalucía Masters, which attracted a second-tier field for the 2022 edition in October.
Now, that annoyance has culminated in Valderrama agreeing to host a LIV Tour event for the next five years.
Announcing that El Camaleón (Mexico) and Sentosa (Singapore) would also be hosting tournaments in 2023, as well as the previously confirmed The Grange in Australia, LIV Golf CEO and commissioner Greg Norman said, “LIV Golf is truly a global league dedicated to expanding the sport throughout the world, and these destinations for the league’s 2023 launch showcase our commitment to tournament play at the highest level. These venues have played host to signature moments in golf, and we’re excited to build new traditions for the sport while delivering a first-class fan experience at some of the world’s best courses.”
Valderrama chief executive Javier Reviriego said, “Royal Valderrama Club has a rich history of hosting extraordinary golf tournaments, and we are excited to initiate this new partnership with LIV Golf. The quality of players that will compete at Valderrama will no doubt attract many European fans that are eager to see some of the best golfers in the world. We will ensure that the golf course is presented in top condition and that it represents a true challenge, where precision and strategy will play a key role. There is no doubt that the five LIV Golf events that we will be hosting in the coming years will further position Andalucía as one of the top golf destinations in the world.”

Here's the prize money payout for each golfer at the 2023 LIV Golf League — Andalucia
The long-term future of the LIV Golf League might be unsettled as Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (LIV’s financial backer) works toward formalizing a partnership with the PGA Tour and the DP World Tour. In the short term, however, the eighth of 14 events on the 2023 LIV schedule went off with one of LIV's hottest players this year grabbing a third victory of the season.
With a closing four-under 67 at Real Club Valderrama in Sotogrande, Spain, including birdies on the final two holes, Talor Gooch jumped up the leaderboard to pass 36-hole leader Bryson DeChambeau and win by one shot with a 12-under 201 total to win the the first tournament since the framework deal between the three parties was announced.
There was genuine anticipation for this week’s tournament, given Valderrama’s past as a host site for the Ryder Cup, World Golf Championships event and an annual stop on the DP World Tour. And Spanish fans were rooting hard for one of their own, Sergio Garcia, who finish tied for 10 at two-under 211 total

The standard prize money payout was up for grabs in the no-cut, 54-hole event: a $20 million individual purse, with Gooch pulling in the $4 million first-place prize money payout. There was also $5 million on the line in the team competition, with Torque GC (Joaquin Niemman, Mito Pereira, David Puig and Sebastian Munoz) winning by five strokes.
Here’s the prize money payout for the field at Valderrama. Come back after the tournament and we’ll update the post with names and individual paydays.

SOTOGRANDE, Spain (AP) — Talor Gooch won his third LIV Golf League title of the year on Sunday when he made a curling 15-foot birdie putt on the 18th hole at Valderrama for a 4-under 67 and a one-shot victory over Bryson DeChambeau.
Gooch won $4 million for the victory in Spain. Along with victories in Australia and Singapore, the former Oklahoma State player now has earned $13,376,583 in eight LIV events this year.
He also becomes the first player with three victories in the Saudi-funded rival league. Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson have two wins apiece.
DeChambeau started the third and final round with a one-shot lead and twice expanded that to a two-shot margin, the last time as they made the turn. Gooch caught him with birdies on the 10th and 13th holes, setting up the big finish.
Both birdied the par-5 17th. And then on the final hole, Gooch rolled in a right-to-left breaking putt to deny DeChambeau, who closed with a 69.
Koepka closed with a 68. He started three shots behind and fell further off the pace quickly. Koepka, the PGA Championship winner, tried to keep in range until a bogey on the 13th hole all but ended his chances.
Gooch finished at 12-under 201.
He previously won by three shots in Australia, and then followed that up with a playoff victory over Sergio Garcia in Singapore. Gooch had not played in a month leading up to Valderrama because he was not exempt and did not enter the U.S. Open.
He is in the field for the British Open in three weeks. LIV Golf moves on to its next event outside London, where the series began a year ago.
On the team side, Joaquin Niemann and Sebastian Munoz each shot 68 to lead Torque to a comfortable victory.

Before the DP World Tour and LIV Golf became the best of frenemies, LIV Golf securing an event at Valderrama was seen as something of a coup, as Valderrama was a regular host on the European Tour. But as Valderrama's general manager Javier Reviriego explains: “When we evaluated the progress of our previous event, it was not what we wanted. When discussions started with LIV, we saw a potential opportunity to host an event with top talent, top players, to host an event with quality. That's what we wanted. It's as simple as that.”
Someone who was happy with the decision is Sergio Garcia. The Spaniard explained: “It’s my favourite golf course. I love the design – tight, trees, doglegs, small greens. It’s the kind of course that you have to be very patient, to put the ball in the right spots. If you manage to do that, then you can score. I just love it.”
It has certainly rewarded him as a player – he has won here three times and come second three times. Only once in 15 starts has he finished outside the top 10.
One of those second places was a playoff loss to Ian Poulter in 2004 at the Volvo Masters. Poulter also has an impressive historic record at Valderrama: he finished in the top ten in the Volvo Masters for five consecutive years from 2003.
Graeme McDowell, who won the Andalucía Valderrama Masters in 2010, is another European golfer to have triumphed at the venue.

Report: Valderrama Set To Become LIV Golf Venue For 2023
In a report by The Telegraph, Valderrama is expected to be confirmed as a LIV venue for 2023
- Sign up to Golf Monthly Newsletter Newsletter
According to The Telegraph , Valderrama is set to be confirmed as a new LIV Golf venue for 2023, with the Saudi-backed series reportedly offering more than $2 million to the Spanish based course.
Although the schedule hasn't been announced yet, it is expected to go public at the end of November and it is believed that LIV Golf Spain will be held at the end of June, three weeks before The 151st Open Championship, with the Centurion Club staging a LIV Golf event a week later. It's been confirmed that next year LIV Golf will be expanding to a 14-event league with reportedly nine events in the USA and five around the world.
The LIV Golf Team Championship has concluded with a $50 million team event at Trump National Doral
Valderrama had originally been linked to LIV Golf all the way back in July , with one of the most recognised courses in Europe previously hosting a Ryder Cup, as well as many, many DP World Tour events.
Since the 80s, it has played host to the now-defunct Volvo Masters and WGC - American Express Championship before providing the stage for the Andalucia Masters where, this year, it actually crowned Adrian Otaegui , the first golfer to win on the DP World Tour having played in multiple LIV Golf events.
Following Otaegui's win, Ryder Cup Vice-Captain, Edoardo Molinari, expressed his desire for the DP World Tour to continue to host an event at Valderrama, with the Italian tweeting: "Well played Adrian Otaegui, incredible scoring around Valderrama. Let’s just hope we can keep playing a @DPWorldTour event there in future years…it’s definitely my favorite venue of the year! Hopefully the members at Valderrama will make the right decision.”
Otaegui shot a tournament record at Valderrama, as he secured a six shot win
It isn't just DP World Tour players who have had their say about the venue. Back in September, the Tour's CEO Keith Pelley admitted that LIV Golf could be in the running to host a tournament at the course .
He said: "LIV's first event was in our territory in the UK and there is talk and people are asking me now about Valderrama . They are talking to every one of our stakeholders, every one of our partners, every one of our broadcasters." Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the DP World Tour said: "We have put a proposal to Valderrama and would very much like to continue to have such an iconic venue as part of our schedule."

According to reports, LIV Golf are not just close to finalising their schedule, but are aiming to have all their players for 2023 confirmed by the New Year, with LIV Golf President, Atul Khosla, stating: “We are in the middle of the discussions (about the new signings). We are going to get it done this year. We want the teams locked in by the new year. It will play itself out over the next couple of months.”
Matt joined Golf Monthly in February 2021 covering weekend news, before also transitioning to equipment and testing. After freelancing for Golf Monthly and The PGA for 18 months, he was offered a full-time position at the company in October 2022 and continues to cover weekend news and social media, as well as help look after Golf Monthly’s many buyers’ guides and equipment reviews.
Taking up the game when he was just seven years of age, Matt made it into his county squad just a year later and continues to play the game at a high standard, with a handicap of around 2-4. To date, his best round came in 2016, where he shot a six-under-par 66 having been seven-under through nine holes. He currently plays at Witney Lakes in Oxfordshire and his favourite player is Rory McIlroy, despite nearly being struck by his second shot at the 17th during the 2015 BMW PGA Championship.

European Tour: Jon Rahm ready for fresh chance for victory on Spanish soil at Andalucia Masters
Rahm headlines a strong field at Real Club Valderrama for second of three consecutive Spanish-based events on the European Tour - watch live on T hursday from 1pm on Sky Sports Golf and Sky Sports Main Event.
Wednesday 13 October 2021 14:34, UK
Jon Rahm is looking to bounce back from a disappointing finish to the Open de Espana when he tees it up on home soil again at the Estrella Damm N.A Andalucia Masters.
The world No 1 was in prime position to claim a third consecutive victory of his home Open when he went into the weekend just a shot off the halfway lead in Madrid, only to fade to a tied-17th finish after rounds of 73 and 69 left him six strokes behind tournament winner Rafa Cabrera Bello.
Rahm has another chance to enjoy Spanish success this week at Real Club Valderrama, where victory would move him top of the Race to Dubai standings, with the US Open champion looking to go one better than his tied-second finish at the event in 2019.
"It's just too bad that the weekend wasn't what I was looking for," Rahm said about his Open de Espana display. "I played great early on and gave myself a great chance. Saturday I shot myself out of the tournament, didn't have a great day, and was too far back to make up the difference.
"There's always the following week and a following year, so maybe I can get my third next year and I can still get a Spanish victory on Spanish soil this week. It [Valderrama] is just a historic venue for Spanish players.

Catlin came through a final-round tussle with Martin Kaymer in tough conditions to win the 2020 contest, with the American adding further titles at the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open and the Austrian Golf Open since that breakthrough success.
"This was a special win for me last year, being my first win out here here in Europe, especially on a golf course like this," Catlin said. "I always knew I could win, I'd won quite a few times before, but the European Tour is a whole other level.
"It definitely gave me a lot of confidence, as it was playing very challenge and you had to high-quality shots just to give yourself any chance of birdie. It's always going to be a special place to come back to and I'm looking forward to the week."

2024 LIV Golf Adelaide schedule, field of players, teams, prize money, purse, live stream, TV schedule
Liv golf makes its way down under for its annual event in australia.
LIV Golf returns to the land down under for the first of two international events following the Masters. The 54-hole circuit once again makes its way to LIV Golf Adelaide, where the league enjoyed tremendous success in its inaugural showing a year ago. It was Talor Gooch running away with the individual title on LIV Golf this time last year, but this year it is Joaquin Niemann.
The young Chilean has been tremendous in 2024 with a couple of LIV Golf titles to his name and a strong showing at the year's first major championship. Fresh off a top-25 result at the Masters, Niemann hopes to keep the momentum rolling in Australia.
Outdoing Niemann at the Masters and representing one of LIV Golf's highest finisher was the man who needs no introductions to Australian golf fans, Cameron Smith. The 2022 Champion Golfer of the Year claimed another top-10 finish at Augusta National and continued a streak of solid play for the Australian. Smith has now rattled off three straight quality outings with a playoff loss to Abraham Ancer in Hong Kong. He will hope to impress his fans again as he leads his Ripper GC squad into a home game.
Ripper GC and the rest of the teams are looking up to last year's champions, Crushers GC. Bryson DeChambeau's team has opened up a wide lead over the rest of the league in large part due to their captain's play. DeChambeau contended at the Masters before ultimately finishes T6 alongside Smith. On LIV Golf, DeChambeau has connected on four straight top 10s and will look to do a hair better this week as he eyes his third trophy.
Meanwhile, players like Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson and Jon Rahm hope to bounce back from mildly disappointing Masters, with others like Gooch, Tyrrell Hatton and Patrick Reed rounding out the action.

Madonna is wrapping up her current concert tour over the next few days with a trilogy of shows in Mexico City. Prices have been climbing over recent days, so you'll have to be sharp if you want to buy Madonna tickets for these dates while you can for the The Celebration Tour.
Before she takes her final bow of the Celebration Tour concert series in April 2024, Madonna will have performed 52 shows across 27 cities in the US, Canada, and Mexico. While many dates earlier in the tour were available for under $100, these final dates will cost you at least $245 at the time of writing. Still, it's a few grand cheaper than the Swifties have been paying this year.
- More events: Olivia Rodrigo tickets | Taylor Swift tickets | Adele tickets | Rolling Stones tickets
With the concert series being a retrospective celebration of her iconic career, The Celebration Tour's setlist unsurprisingly includes plenty of Madonna's timeless hits. Songs like "Like a Prayer," "Vogue," "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," and "Like a Virgin" have been performed across various dates on her tour.
We've got you covered if you're still looking for tickets to Madonna's Celebration Tour. Here's our breakdown of Madonna's remaining 2024 tour schedule, purchasing details, and original and resale ticket prices. You can also browse the available tickets for sale on StubHub and Vivid Seats at your leisure.

How to buy tickets for Madonna's 2024 concert tour
Madonna tickets have been on sale for a while now, so all original ones via Ticketmaster are long gone.
However, Madonna tickets are still available through verified resale vendors like StubHub and Vivid Seats .
How much do Madonna tickets cost?
The price for standard original tickets to Madonna's 2024 tour varies depending on date, location, and demand. For example, concert dates in major cities like New York City tend to be more expensive.
Standard original tickets still available on Ticketmaster a few weeks ago were comparable to prices on verified resale platforms. However, the remaining original tickets have all been snapped up though, so resale vendors are your only hope now.
The Celebration Tour originally had VIP tickets available for premium prices. Madonna's 2024 concert series had The Immaculate VIP Package, Iconic VIP Package), You Can Dance Premium Ticket Package, and Where's The Party Premium Ticket Package. The prices for original tickets for each package on Ticketmaster started at $1,750, $895, $545, and $475, respectively.
Who is opening for Madonna's tour?
Madonna has not announced any additional opening acts for her 2024 concert dates. However, the artist is joined by Bob the Drag Queen, a special guest in each of her shows, who helps introduce the concert and interacts with Madonna as the emcee.
Madonna's 2024 tour began with the international leg in Europe, so the only remaining concerts in The Celebration Tour outside the United States are in Mexico.
In April, she'll have five performances in Mexico City, where she'll take her final bow of The Celebration Tour on April 26.

Bad Bunny brought a live horse, an orchestra and Puerto Rican pride to Austin concert
There was a live horse.
Friday night at the Moody Center, reggaetón idol and fashion trendsetter Bad Bunny switched sides and costumes. Earlier he donned a suit and wig under an L.A. Dodgers cap, then he rocked a tan jacket with frills. In between, a soliloquy about taking the road less traveled via pre-recorded video.
In it, Bunny crossed the dessert on a horse with the self-serious swagger of a cologne ad.
“No one else dares to take this path,” he narrated on-screen in Spanish.
Then, for about 15 seconds, he walked into the arena on a brown horse, gave it a pat, and we never saw it again. For one of the world’s mightiest rock stars, it was the most over-the-top flourish in a night filled with them.
A full orchestra; 20 back-up dancers; a rotating cat walk; 10 to 15 minutes of just posing on said cat walk to breathe in the idol worship while giving back brooding stares; barroom singalongs of sweeping breakup ballads like “un x100to” performed while lounging on top of a grand piano; the audacity to not book an opener; the bravado to leave out song of the summer 2022, “Callaita,” which was in a beer commercial, from the set list. And like Leo Messi, the rock star born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio never bothered to address his adoring English-speaking public in anything other than his native Spanish.

He’d ask where all the Latinas in Austin, Texas were at to get screams, sure, but also offer affirmations about identity and self-actualization.
“What we can’t control is what people will say about us,” he’d say, later shouting out how special it was to see Puerto Rican flags from fans. (I counted more than 10 large ones stretched out by patrons, including a giant flag draped over the mezzanine wall like a soccer match.) In his pep talk, Bad Bunny was alluding to being a tabloid regular—he split with Kendall Jenner in December—but also seemingly shouting out what it’s like to be a Latinx person in the U.S.
And the Spanish-first community was proudly about town. Selling $10 cowboy hats; enjoying hot dogs with a million toppings, fresh off a street griddle; even third- and fourth-generation Texans seemed excited to tap into the fashion and swagger of Mexican uncles at a child’s birthday party on Bad Bunny night.
You forget that Bad Bunny is an idea and lifestyle, too. Locally, dance clubs like Mala Vida are molded in his neon image. In South Austin, the same operating group’s Gabrielas restaurant has a permanent Bad Bunny throne that diners can snap photos on. He’s emboldened the community with a zest for gender-neutral brightness so undeniably appealing that Mark Zuckerberg is now wearing gold chains and letting his curls flex.
Between bangers at the Moody, he told us to seek out “people who love you and support you.” The dude projects a lot, defiantly adding banter like “people tell me things every day, but I’m sure of who I am.”

Were his gradient lights hypnotic? Was the cowboy boot necklace we all got at the door, that synced to the lightshow Coldplay and Taylor Swift-style, a lovely souvenir? Were his vocals muffled and mixed to overpowering degrees so that at times you heard him echo twice as loud as the accompanying beat? Absolutely and of course.
Structurally, this Most Wanted Tour is a celebration of October’s “Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va Pasar Mañana” record, a more somber and rap-centric offering relative to 2022’s relentlessly romantic party masterpiece “Un Verano Sin Ti.” The former is almost a Rick Ross album, rich with thumping beats and strings—mood music for the bosses that makes you want to put a bib on and eat crab.
And so the show began with 10 uncompromising new songs, then revved into a string of party barge standards post-horse: “Yo Perreo Sola,” “La Santa,” “Me Porto Bonito.” Illuminate your reality and proudly let the dog out—he couldn’t be any clearer.
Neil Young Stuns at 2024 Tour Launch, Unveils Lost ‘Cortez the Killer’ Verse
By Andy Greene
Andy Greene
In typical Neil Young fashion, virtually nothing was revealed about his 2024 U.S. tour before it kicked off Wednesday night at San Diego’s Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre, other than the fact he’d be backed by Crazy Horse , and that Micah Nelson would be taking over guitar duties from Nils Lofgren. Would he pull a Greendale and debut an entire rock opera nobody had ever heard? Would he focus the set around the three new studio albums he cut with Crazy Horse between 2019 and 2022? Might he repeat the concept of his 2023 solo tour by spotlighting obscure Eighties and Nineties album tracks and skipping most of his hits?
They jammed for six minutes before Young sang the opening lines, igniting the crowd into a frenzy, but the big moment came near the end, when he began singing completely unfamiliar words. As he teased earlier this month , it was the legendary lost segment of the song that failed to record during the 1975 Zuma sessions because the console briefly lost power. Young recently found the lyric manuscript, and worked out where they originally fit in the song.
“I floated on the water,” Young sang. “I ate that ocean wave/Two weeks after the slaughter/I was living in a cave/They came too late to get me/But there’s no one here to set me free/From this rocky grave/To that snowed-out ocean wave.”
It was a remarkable moment to witness. After 49 years and over 540 live performances, the world finally got to hear the song as Young originally wrote it.

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.
Young was talking about “Scattered (Let’s Think About Livin’),” from 1996’s Broken Arrow, which was the newest song they played all evening. The rest of the set was music recorded when Briggs was alive, largely between 1969 and 1979, beginning with “Don’t Cry No Tears.” He followed it up with a triple shot of Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere : “Down by the River,” “The Losing End,” and the title track. And it was a particularly mesmerizing “Down by the River” that stretched out for 16 blissful minutes.

After the Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere mini-set, the quartet (Crazy Horse 4.0?) kicked into one of the greatest renditions of “Powderfinger” I’ve ever heard, thanks to improvisational guitar work prior to each verse by Young and Nelson. What came next was a 16-minute “Love and Only Love,” the band walking offstage, and then Young strapping on an harmonica rack for solo acoustic renditions of “Comes a Time,” “Heart of Gold,” and “Human Highway” that had the entire amphitheater singing along.
The band returned to wrap up the night with “Don’t Be Denied,” an autobiographical tale that carries a lot more emotional weight when Young sings it at age 78 as opposed to 28, and a thrashed-out “Hey Hey, My My (Into the Black).”

He might duplicate this exact set when the tour continues the following night at the same venue. He might not repeat a single song. He may even perform a complete classic album, which is something he started doing late last year. The joy of seeing Neil Young is that you never have any idea what’s going to happen once the lights dim.
