Going back to the peg trick, don't know if anyone ever been in a fiat 500, but they actually had a leaver which you could lock the accelerator pedal down with... now that's what I call cruise control.... lol

Holden Vintage And Classic This is the only kit I know of that's readily available over here. It's 160 quid plus the VAT though. For the brake control you can tap the brake light circuit as Guessworks says, for the clutch control you can fit a second brake light switch assembly to the pedal box over the clutch pedal fairly simply by using an extra switch and bracket.

Random Drivetrain message...?

mini cruise control failure message

  • Add to quote

Has anybody else experienced random drivetrain errors? This is not the message with “drive moderately” (that always pops up when I search it) but just a more simple error. There are a couple of coonditions where it’s like to happen. First condition (common but irregular) is usually after car has been driven, then parked for a little while (such as going shopping) then it’ll sometimes come on after restarting, either straight away or shortly after driving off. Second (less common) is sometimes when I slow down but not quite stop and pull away quickly (such as slowing for a red light that changes to green just as you reach it). Of course I can’t get this to show whenever I want it to, just occasionally (sometimes a couple of times a week, other it can be a few weeks without the error). It says full performance not available although its sounds and feels normal. The message will clear from Check Control somewhere between 5 seconds to 5 minutes. It’s been to the dealer twice but they haven’t a clue! First time (in the autumn) was a software update....didn’t fix it. Second time (a few weeks ago) was for a new Integrated Supply Unit (apparently something had flagged up saying that needed replacement but nothing noticeable to me. Obviously not connected to generic drivetrain error. My ECU reader shows everything is clear, no stored or pending codes at all, even when the error is still “live” in Check Control! Amy help would be greatly appreciated! Surely I can’t be the only one with this silly error?! If it is just an electronic ‘glitch’ then I guess I’ll have to live with it, as I said, it appears to perform normally and normally clears within a couple of minutes... (I’ve tried to add a photo of it, if it uploads properly using my iPad)

I've also had two occurrences between services where this has randomly appeared for me. Same message. On the first occasion they said it was a common error fixed with a software update. The second time they gave me the same explanation but I noticed that they didn't do any updates and likely just cleared the code. It hasn't happened in a long while since then though (20,000 kms). The only other error I got recently was an issue where my cruise control and speed limit functions refused to work and it gave an error. Again when I asked what was at the 3rd service, they said they didn't know what caused it and to just keep an eye on it happening again (they just cleared the error). I don't think this is something you just have to live with, especially if it is happening regularly I would want BMW to diagnose it properly and fix it. In my instance it has only happened a couple of times so I'm not too bothered.

She's in for her first oil/microfilter service this week. They'll also have another look at the Drivetrain fault! Third time lucky? If only there was some clue as to what causes it, which I could use to give the dealer a nudge... seems to be the most generic error that exists.

How is your car? What error code did you see when connecting the computer to the car? failed cooling fan initiation? I have a very similar problem

Brake Failure

  • Add to quote

Just joined the forum as I had a very scary experience yesterday; I was driving my 2015 Mini Cooper S (JCW Kit) on cruise control at 50 mph as I turned onto a slip road, this road is approx. 150 meters long, as I applied the brakes, my foot hit the floor at first I thought I had hit the clutch but very soon realised I had also applied the clutch. The car would not come off cruise control and was on course to collide with the car in front so I had to stop using the handbrake. Fortunately there was no traffic behind as the car did 1.5 spin, luckily there was no injury to me or anyone else or the car. When I gained composure I started to drive the car again and the brakes were fine. I came on this site last night via a goggle search for mini brake problems as I could not understand how or why this would happen, but saw posts dating between 2014 - 2016 of at least 6 people who had a similar incident and 3 of these were exactly the same as mine - cruise control seemed to override the brake function. But when they took them back to mini to be inspected, they could not find any faults Car is currently back at Cooper Mini along with copies of similar incidents I found on this site. I'm seriously thinking I don't want to drive the car again & from reading the posts I know a couple had started legal action against Mini but the posts did not show if they are received a satisfactory outcome. Any advice would be most welcome.

Id definitely avoid using it again in future even if it does work or is fixed there will always be the doubt that it may have an issue again.

I would not think this failure is related to the use of cruise control based on your description that the brake pedal just hit the floor... There is no reason for the cruise control to disable the brakes in any way, and I think in case the cruise control is not disabled when applying the brakes it would be noticeable how the brakes would try to stop the car with the engine trying to keep a constant speed. There is no reason ever for the brake pedal to hit the floor unless I´m guessing the abs detects wheel lock up and brake pressure is released to avoid locking the wheels. I´m not sure it would be possible to lock a wheel with the brakes while the cruise control is pressing the gas. This is definitely one of the worst nightmares when thinking about what can go wrong. I was told once a kind of similar story with a brand new 2017 Toyoa Corolla, car was driving not with cruise control, then when trying to apply the brakes they did nothing and the car did not stop at all and ended crashing with the car in front. Toyota dealer did not find any fault in the brake system, the car collision damage was fixed and a few weeks later a different driver in the same car experienced the same thing crashing the again.

Those instances used to get reported to the dealer who informed the manufacturer and cars were removed as they were so complete assessment could be carried out. Things to consider...…. the clutch pedal knocks off cruise. If the engine didn't scream due to the cruise controls effect of holding the throttle housing angle vs the load of the car (to maintain speed), with load removed from the engine as the clutch was driver disengaged, the cruise control 'was' knocked off. If the cruise control was knocked off (confirmed by throttle drop) the car can not have continued at speed without pedal intervention.

Does the 3rd gen Mini have an electronic brake pedal? Or is it a traditional mechanical pedal?

I would like to ask you below 2 question. Did you clean the surface of the hub with a wire brush to make sure the surface was clean and flat? Did you measure the disc diameter to confirm the replacements are the same size? Let me know please.

  9. Cruise control

Dead easy.. it's called a peg, pull out choke cable, attach peg, job done But seriously, there's basically two types of cruise control, one which runs off a vacuum fed servo, or another which it usually an electrical type servo.. 15. Cruise Control and the Limit Button

The steering wheel is a bit different on the F60, specifically the left side buttons. My F56 had a Cruise Control button, which turned on CC or turn it off. It also had a Set button, which you could use to set the speed of CC. The F60 doesn't have a Set button. It does however have a completely useless LIM button, which is a Speed Limit function.

I've read a few posts about similar problems - but, not *exactly* this one. Cruise Control (CC) won't engage since I swapped the clutch master and slave cylinders.
