This classic adventure tour of the Western Lakes uses a route pioneered by the Romans! The tour focuses around the Western Lake District travelling over the Lake District’s famous mountain passes; Hardknott and Wrynose, which are some of the steepest in Great Britain. Pass the remote 2nd century Hardknott Roman Fort which includes remains of the headquarters building, commandants house and bath house. During your day you will have time to enjoy traveling over Wrynose & Hardknott Mountain Passes, you'll see England’s deepest lake and visit the untouched Western Lake District. This tour is a chance to explore the real Lake District! This tour includes attractions worth £15.50

I booked a half-day tour and am very glad that I did. Mark H was an excellent guide and extremely knowledgeable. We were a small group but we were given plenty of time to wander around each location. We were not shunted about like a herd of cattle. This was my first visit to the Lake District and the beautiful scenery supassed all expectation. I don't drive and my time was limited. This was a perfect introduction to the Lakes. I plan to visit Windermere again later this year. I will definitely book another Mountain Goat Tour. I highly recommend it. I went on an all day trip with a guide named Derrick. He knew his history and was able to share his knowledge in a conversational way. I found him to be courteous and kind. Did a great job. The "bus" was a Mercedes Sprinter van type, clean and still had that new car smell. Big windows, excellent climate control. The sites visited were fascinating. We had time to get out and hike around them. We spent time in the museums and found the cafe in both to be excellent. I would recommend Mountain Goat Tours to anyone without reservation. On the day of this tour the Kirkstone Pass was closed for road repairs. So our tour driver MARK added a number of other routes to the tour. We went up a number of single track roads to areas with unique views of the Lakes and countryside around them. Mark gave us a running commentary of the areas we drove through, he was obviously passionate about the Lake District and knew la lot of history about it, he stopped a number of times to give us time to take memorable photos. Our driver Trevor was incredibly knowledgeable and his love for the area was palatable.
