Comfortable Durable Ergonomically user-friendly, particularly the shifters & small gear gauge indicators Well-constructed & stable Great upright riding position with fully-adjustable handlebars Quality rear luggage rack included An overall great performer for its type

Squeaky seat, which can't seem to be alleviated

Best bike I've ever owned - makes riding a real pleasure! I've put more miles on this bike in 6 months than my previous road bike in 6 years. The upright riding style and large gel saddle is great for older riders (I'm 51)interested in comfort, but without sacrificing performance/ a good workout. If Trek ever produces this style in a carbon fiber frame with state-of-the-art components, I'll be the first in line...

None really - previous bike a Trek 300 Road Bike

Great riding posture, adjustable seat and handlebars, front suspension, push button shifting, lots of gears, light aluminum frame

Pedals are a little chinsy for a 600 dollar bike, sometimes the gear skips over a gear when I shift up on the rear wheel,

I purchased this bike in order to use it to lose weight. I found the riding posture on my MTB was too far forward and my hands were always numb. I find this bike extremely comfortable, I have logged about 100 miles on it so far, about 10 a day. I am not a big fan of the spring seat stem, but that is easy enough to remedy with a new solid stem. I will probably replace stock tires with Invert 2's as they can be inflated to 80 psi and I only use for street driving. Something you should know, This bike has performed well and I weigh 200 Kilograms, Do the math!!!! IF I have to spend 600 to get it off so be it.

Replaced a 10 year old Mongoose all steel Hilltopper

Excellent product that my wife & I (purchased his & hers 400's)use for bike paths and trails in the Front Range. Overall quality for price is excellent. Finish is excellent. Nothing by other bike manufacturers is similar.

We both love the Navigator 400 for our intended purposes. She loves the availability of a woman's frame with good components. Most woman-frame bikes suffer from the lack of quality. Another winner by Trek.

Trek Navigator 300 - there is nothing similar in cost/overall quality in a comfort bike to the Navigator 400. Replaced my old Trek 950.

Upright riding posture is great, shifting is excellent. Good looking bike.

Seat maybe a little too springy.

Excellent bike for intended purpose. This bike is marketed as a comfort bike. Both my wife and I have a Navigator 400. My daugther has a Navigator 300. The Shimano Nexave shifters are excellent especially for someone not used to shifing gears on a bicycle. Our average ride is 25 miles, typically on asphalt or concrete bike paths. The bigs tires with the smooth tread in the middle are great for riding on the road. Not as noisy as MTB tires, but help cushion the ride. IMO, Definitely better than a hybrid bike for commuting.

Trek Navigator 300. The Nexave shifters make the upgrade to the Navigator 400.

Comfortable ride, decent components

cheap pedals

nice bike for roads and hard trails. comfortable riding position. reasonably priced. Seat is like a lounge chair! Cheapo pedals. Would buy bike again. Excellent bike for light trail riding and park bike paths

Comfortable, good looking bike. The shifter is a plus in traffic, so is the visibility.A hand brake that works when wet! A nice on or off road tourer.

Not geared for high speed riding.7th is slightly low, and gear splits are about 15% in all gears. Hard to go fast sitting upright anyway. Also not really a Mountain bike.No really low climbing gears and the handle bars are a little wide for tight trails. Don't know about durability of 7 speed hub yet.

I've found this bike to be very enjoyable to ride. The suspension seat post and front suspension allow me to go over curbs without the bike pounding me, or me pounding the bike (6'2" 220#) the upright riding position gives excellent visibility in traffic or touring. The Nexus 7 speed hub allows shifting several gears at once, even when stopped. The gear spread is about equal to a 10 speed. The rear brake will still work when wet. Good for mild off road exploring, or bridging gaps in bike paths. also a very clean looking bike, simple to use.

Comfortable

I bought this bike with the 7speed Nexus hub, because my prior bikes all had rear derailers which would freeze up in the winter. I ride year round and it gets wet, cold and icy in these parts. To my GREAT dissapointment, the Nexus hub freezes up worse than the derailer did! The grease they put in the hub thickens up to near cement at 32 degrees and the bike becomes a one-speed, stuck in the gear it froze up in. I would never buy it again. Also, with the internal rear brake and the shifting gears in te hub, it makes it very difficult to chane a flat.

A decent bike, but not living up to my expectations.

Trek Navigator 400

  • Add to quote

I've searched the forums and read countless posts, yet I have not seen a single post from anyone who owns a Trek Navigator 400. I bought my 400 in 2003. It has a 7-speed internal hub and has never caused me any issues. Yeah, I know. It was not an expensive bike. But 13 years after I bought it the only thing I've replaced are the grips! Am I the only one here with a Trek Navigator 400 or does someone else own one as well?

Average price for Comfort bikes

If you want to purchase a solid Comfort bike, it is important to know that the average cost is 360 $ . However, even if your budget is less than the average, you might still be able to get a top-quality Comfort bike. To sum up, when you purchase your bike, make sure to check if it has reviews, and also do some components research.

Overview of components

The Navigator 400 comes factory-installed with the RST fork. This has a travel range of 50mm . Bike forks are great for shock absorption and provide you with a smooth ride. In short, you should always ensure you have a good fork when purchasing a bike.

When it comes to wheels, the Navigator 400 bike is equipped with the 26″ aluminum model. These wheels give you great handling over your bike. However, you will need increased suspension than in the case of 29″ wheels.

Stopping the bike when needed, it’s essential for your safety. This bike has Rim brakes. Rim brakes are cheaper than hydraulic brakes, and also easier to maintain. However, you could spend a little extra and get a bike that has hydraulic brakes.

Screen Rant

Stamets has tardigrade dna star trek: discovery’s spore drive navigator explained.

Commander Paul Stamets' tardigrade DNA is an essential part of USS Discovery's spore drive navigation system, and comes with interesting side effects.

  • Commander Paul Stamets has tardigrade DNA thanks to combining his own genetics with a tardigrade named Ripper.
  • Stamets' tardigrade DNA lets him navigate the USS Discovery through the mycelial network.
  • Stamets invented the USS Discovery's spore drive, and he is unaffected by temporal disruptions thanks to his tardigrade DNA.

It's true: Commander Paul Stamets (Anthony Rapp), the inventor of the spore drive on Star Trek: Discovery , has tardigrade DNA. Discovery's displacement-activated spore hub drive is a classified propulsion system unique to Star Trek: Discovery , and an alternative to the warp drive that's usually seen on Star Trek 's starships. Rather than warping space-time to travel faster than light, the spore drive actively displaces the USS Discovery from normal space into another plane of existence, the mycelial plane. During a jump, or "black alert" , Discovery travels along the mycelial network, an interconnected structure that branches through space-time organically.

Spore drives were installed on two Crossfield-class starships in the 23rd century, with Stamets assigned to the USS Discovery and Stamets' research partner, Straal (Saad Siddiqui), assigned to the USS Glenn. Discovery operated its spore drive with cultivated spores, but was only capable of short jumps, whereas the USS Glenn could make much longer jumps. A disaster aboard the Glenn in Star Trek: Discovery season 1 , episode 3, "Context is for Kings", proved that a failure to navigate with complete precision through the mycelial network could result in space-time twisting through organic matter, causing fatal "helical trauma." The only survivor was a huge tardigrade, which attacked Discovery's away team, and was brought aboard the USS Discovery.

Star Trek: Discovery’s Anthony Rapp & Paul Stamets Explained

Why commander paul stamets has tardigrade dna in star trek: discovery, it's better than making the tardigrade be discovery's navigator..

Commander Paul Stamets' tardigrade DNA is essential to navigating the mycelial network that the USS Discovery's spore drive uses to jump through space. Star Trek: Discovery season 1's Captain Gabriel Lorca (Jason Isaacs) appreciated the savage nature of the angry tardigrade, nicknamed "Ripper", and demanded that Specialist Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) make Ripper into a weapon. Burnham's workaround to Lorca's request was working with Stamets to find that Ripper the tardigrade had a symbiotic relationship with the spores, and could independently navigate the mycelial network to make longer jumps, like the USS Glenn had done. However, the jumps were painful for Ripper, who couldn't consent to being used as a tool.

Tardigrade DNA gave Stamets the ability to co-exist with the mycelial network itself.

Paul Stamets' solution was to combine Ripper's tardigrade DNA into his own, so Stamets could navigate the mycelial network directly, instead of subjecting Ripper to a lifetime of pain as the spore drive's unwilling navigator. Tardigrade DNA gave Stamets the ability to co-exist with the mycelial network itself, a dream come true for Star Trek: Discovery 's astromycologist, but it came at a high cost. The pain that Ripper felt was neurological damage that Paul also sustained when navigating the mycelial network. Although Stamets took the pain on willingly, repeated exposure to long jumps along the network pushed Stamets' mind to the limits, and warped Stamets' perception of reality.

Genetic engineering was outlawed by the United Federation of Planets following Star Trek 's Eugenics Wars, but the USS Discovery's spore drive was one of Starfleet's only advantages in the Klingon War, so the Federation gave Stamets a wartime pass for tampering with his own DNA.

Why Commander Stamets’ Tardigrade DNA Lets Him Live Outside Of Time

Reality is all gooey in the mycelial network..

Star Trek: Discovery 's Commander Paul Stamets is no longer bound by the constraints of time, thanks to the tardigrade DNA that lets Stamets navigate the USS Discovery through the mycelial network, which exists outside normal space-time. Because Stamets' tardigrade DNA biologically connects Stamets to the mycelial network, Stamets' own perception of time and space is more aligned with the quantum nature of the mycelial plane. Paul Stamets is aware when something isn't right with time; when Discovery is caught in a time loop in Star Trek: Discovery season 1, episode 7, "Magic to Make the Sanest Man Go Mad", Stamets is the only person who can break it.

Stamets' ability to exist outside of time made him crucial to solving Star Trek: Discovery season 5, episode 4, "Face the Strange's" time loops.

Commander Stamets' connection to the mycelial network can go even further, altering Stamets' relationship with space-time. When repeated jumps push the USS Discovery closer to Star Trek 's Mirror Universe , Stamets confuses the two timelines and becomes entangled with Mirror Stamets' memories. Stamets' memory of his husband, Dr. Hugh Culber (Wilson Cruz), exists physically within the mycelial network after Culber's Discovery season 1 death, allowing Paul to resurrect Hugh in Star Trek: Discovery season 2. Once just a navigational necessity on Star Trek: Discovery, Commander Paul Stamets' tardigrade DNA makes Stamets naturally aware of the flow of time and space, and able to spot abnormalities within it.

Star Trek: Discovery is streaming on Paramount+.

Color photos of Soviet people in the 1950s

In the fifties, Semyon Osipovich Friedland, Soviet photographer and journalist, made a lot of high-quality color photographs in all parts of the Soviet Union.

Thanks to his work, we can now see people’s life in the USSR after World War II. Of course these photos are staged but nevertheless quite interesting from a historical perspective.

What a lovely collection of photos!

Of course, it was staged, of course, it was rehearsed, but how much truth was in it…

Nice memories. Thank you

One must also remember that Early Color films were slow in emulsion speed, so that´s why some elements had to be staged and / or lighted wery near the object matter.

Penn Cambria star continues his spring trek in the 400

navigator 400 trek

Mirror photo by Patrick Waksmunski Penn Cambria's Josh Stolarski placed third in the 100 meter dash behind winner Tristin Ohler of Meyersdale.

By Michael Boytim

[email protected]

LOYSBURG — Penn Cambria’s Josh Stolarski won the PIAA championship in the 400-meter dash last year, and he knows he has a target on his back going into his senior high school track and field season.

Stolarski lived up to the pressure at Friday’s Northern Bedford Invitational by setting a new personal best in the event and breaking the meet record, which had been held by Tussey Mountain graduate Jordan Donaldson since 2007.

“There is a ton of pressure on my shoulders,” Stolarski said. “I want to defend my 400, but I also want to branch out into the 200 and maybe the 100. As of right now, competitions have been great. I have only lost one 400 this season and only lost (twice in the) 200. Honestly, these dual meets and these invites aren’t really what I’m focused on. I’m focused on the end of the year, and that’s where I want to peak.”

Stolarski ran the 400 in 48.58, breaking Donaldson’s mark of 49.94. But Stolarski has even bigger goals for himself.

“I’m kind of unhappy with it,” Stolarski said. “I know it’s a PR, but I ran my all-time indoor PR with a 49.01, and that converts to a 48.3, so I kind of want to get it. I know I can run it, and I know I’m there. I just need to put a race together. Despite all that, I’m happy to set a new PR.”

Penn Cambria coach Todd Niebauer said Stolarski has the right mindset to deal with the pressure he will face this year as a known commodity.

“He’s a confident kid, and he’s been in the big meets,” Niebauer said. “What else are you going to tell him? He just has to go out and take care of business, and I think he knows that. He worked this summer and went to some big meets. He will just keep working on what he needs to on the track, and his confidence is definitely there.”

Stolarski’s only loss in the 400 this year was to State College’s Jesse Myers, who runs at the 3A level and also is a PIAA champion.

“I have to lock in on everything,” Stolarski said. “I have to get my training down. I need to hit my splits. I have been trying to open my first 200 in under 22 and just haven’t yet. I think once I get there, it’s going to all come together. But for still semi-early in the season, 48.5 is pretty solid for me.”

Stolarski wasn’t the only Panther to break a meet record on Friday. Senior teammate Carter McDermott broke his own mark in the long jump by 8 inches with a leap of 22 feet, 8.25 inches. He also won the triple jump in 42 feet, 7.5 inches.

“He jumped real consistent today,” Niebauer said. “He had 22 feet three jumps in a row. Triple jump wasn’t quite where he wants it, but I think he will be OK. That can all depend on the pits, but we’re real happy that we had a consistent 22 all day. If he can stay with that, I think he’ll be good at the end of the year.”

There were two more boys champions crowned from the Mirror’s coverage area at the invite.

Bode Layo of Portage won the shot put with a throw of 42 feet, 7 inches, and Jack Dunn of Central won the high jump, clearing 6 feet.

On the girls side, Portage’s Cami Burkett, who medaled at the PIAA meet as a sophomore, is hoping to bounce back in her senior season after what she called a disappointing season last year.

“I want to be better than last year,” Burkett said. “We have the Altoona Invitational and the Heritage Conference meet coming up soon, so I guess we’ll see.”

Burkett won the 100 and 200 dashes at the NBC Invite in 12.92 and 26.4, respectively.

“Time wise, it wasn’t the best,” Burkett said. “It was freezing and windy. But to get first in both the 100 and 200 was really important. It’s our first invitational of the year, so it’s nice to see where I am.”

Burkett said warming up in the cold weather proved to be a challenge.

“The wind adds a second at least,” Burkett said. “Besides that, to get ready and everything, it’s very difficult. Especially when you have to wait in the tent for some time too.”

Two Central girls also won championships.
