WARNING AVOID NOT JUST TRAVEL!

WARNING AVOID NOT JUST TRAVEL! Njt offer extremely poor customer service. I have experience of this. I would not recommend this company to anyone. Further, my research of the Franchise offers are that they are very over priced. It’s a prime example of Pyramid selling! They are selling the services of someone else and doubling the cost. That is the foundation of their business. Njt franchises sell Hays travel. Hays Travel sell their own franchises directly and the cost is half that of Njt. The monthly package fee is also less than half. Hays direct offer a better more professional level of training and support. They also provide you with a computer and phone in the franchise package they offer. I would not recommend anyone goes through Njt either as a travel customer or in buying a franchise. Do your research on the above and you will see for your self. Avoid the Pyramid Sellers! We all know they are a con. AB

Very poor after care and customer…

Very poor after care and customer service from Njt. They sell Hays Travel although they are a separate company to them. With a number of other holiday people who have also used them and felt the same. We have as a group with the same experiences reported the poor after care / customer service to Hays directly. As its a Hays holiday sold through Not Just Travel we felt they needed to be aware of the bad name they are building up for Hays. The service from Njt on there behalf is 0 rated. Not possible to give 0 on here the minimum is 1 but that is just too high for them. Lots of people feel the same. I think most of the 5 star reviews are from their own staff and homeworkers and are not real customers who have received a poor service. When we spoke to Hays Travel directly they stated that they had also received a number of complaints directly about the poor customer services from Njt. So on that basis please avoid this company, Not Just Travel. Save your self the stress of a bad service.

Stress free holidays - there is no better way

We have used Pete & Laurelle Colvin - Not Just Travel for numerous trips recently . The most recent being an Amsterdam break which we absolutely loved! Pete and Laurelle help take away all the stressful parts of booking a holiday so you are left to enjoy all of the best parts ! Accommodation was superb and we even got a free surprise upgrade for our room . They book our airport parking, help advise and book excursions , give the best tips and advice and genuinely just want you to have the best experience possible. Cannot recommend them highly enough . We have 2 further trips booked so far plus lots of friends and colleagues using their services too . Also the quirky little emails you receive throughout and the aftercare service is exceptional !

Wouldn’t use anyone else…

I have used various different travel agents previously however for the last couple of holidays I have used Illesh and have been thoroughly impressed with his care and attention. He listens and understands what my needs are and makes suggestions accordingly. We recently booked a 10 day trip in the Maldives as a surprise for my wife’s 40th. The whole holiday booking from initial contact to coming home was excellently organised. Ilesh made recommendations on flight timings, contacted the hotel for us and even had the hotel provide a superb floating breakfast for my wife on her birthday. He is a superb agent and I would highly recommended him, I certainly will not be booking with anyone else in the future.

Well done to Becky Moss and big thanks

Used Becky Moss to organise a weekend away in Paris and she pulled it out of the bag, despite the many changes that we requested. She understood our requirements and budget and managed all aspects of the trip - taking all the worry away. Highly recommend Becky and will definitely use her again. Thanks.

Rome for 40th birthday experience

Booked an amazing weekend break to Rome through Zoe Harmer for my wife’s 40th. The hotel she picked for us was in perfect location, lovely and clean with beautiful views from the roof top bar. The flights were all sorted through Zoe and all for the budget I had set. Would recommend this little break to anyone looking and through Zoe

A great service and a great holiday to New Zealand.

We've recently returned from a great holiday which included Dubai, Sydney and New Zealand and I can honestly say that without Sarah Gardner we wouldn't have had the confidence to deal with the whole process. Sarah Gardner was amazing! What a brilliant service she gave. Sarah was so easy to contact, no matter what time or day it was. I've never experienced anything like it regarding a travel company before. Her knowledge and support was second to none. She sorted everything from start to finish. She sent us links for all the relevant documents so we didn't have to search for anything. When I came across a problem, Sarah took away the worry and sorted it. She was always one step ahead, even checking us into our various flights as our holiday progressed from one country to another and forwarding our tickets. Her attention to detail was amazing. We'll certainly be contacting Sarah very soon as we know she'll look after us on our next adventure.

Ewa is amazing!

Ewa James is amazing!! I highly recommend using her to book your next holiday or honeymoon. We have booked family holidays and most recently our honeymoon to Jamaica which was incredible. It truly was a once in a life time experience, everything we wanted and more. We always used to book our holidays online but then we met Ewa and we would never go back to booking our holidays without her. She listens to everything you would like and finds exactly what you’re looking for. Truly exceptional at her job!

Thank you Leyla Kent

We booked an amazing dream holiday to Singapore & The Maldives through Leyla Kent, and she was fabulous. We had an initial meeting via video where we discussed what we wanted from the holiday, the types of accommodation we were looking for and our budget. Leyla then came back to us with some perfect options for us to choose from. Once we had booked and before we travelled, no question or query was too much trouble for her and she was always just a text away. She wished us a wonderful holiday before we left, checking we didn’t need anything and while we were away, checked that everything was ok. The service was impeccable and I wouldn’t go anywhere else for help with a holiday.

Outstanding Thai holiday - thanks Fiona!

We have just returned from an amazing holiday to Thailand organised by Fiona Allen. We visited Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Khao Lak and all accommodation and transfers were included in our holiday. This is the second trip she has planned for us having gone to Bali last year. Both times she has listened to us and perfectly matched the holidays to what we wanted and enjoy. We have already booked our next holiday with Fiona (to Cape Verde) and have full confidence that it will be another amazing experience thanks to her attention to detail and expert knowledge.

Family holiday in Rhodes

We have just returned from a family holiday in Rhodes, organised for us by Nikki Peachey. We were going out for a wedding and wanted to make a holiday of it so asked Nikki to help us find a family friendly hotel near to the wedding venue. She was fantastic, and the hotel she found for us was just perfect. It was 10 minutes from the wedding venue, she helped us organise transfers and contacted the hotel about various queries and requirements we had for the kids. She also organised private transfers to and from the airport and everything was spot on. She even contacted us a couple of days in just to see how we were getting on and if we had any issues which I thought was really nice. We would absolutely recommend Nikki and will be booking our next holiday with her for sure!

We have just come back from a fantastic holiday to Costa Adeje in Tenerife to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. A huge thank you to Diane and Caroline at Wild About Holliday’s. From start to finish you organised everything. You recommended booking the Jardines de Nivaria and we weren’t disappointed. Definite luxury. We were upgraded to a sea view room and bubbly for our Anniversary. We would highly recommend using Wild About Holiday’s.

Reshma Aggarwal - Amazing Travel Consultant

We recently went on a family holiday to Abu Dhabi and Thailand, and booked this via Reshma Aggarwal of Not Just Travel. She was amazing...completely understood our requirements from the holiday, organised everything for us in terms of transfers, wheelchair use at all of the airports for my mother, and even liaised with the hotel to create a special surprise birthday celebration and cake for my son who turned 6 years old. Nothing was too much to ask from Reshma. I cannot fault her service, attention to detail, and the time she takes to get to know us to understand how we like to holiday. We have just recently booked another holiday through Reshma, a short trip, and she is in the process of organising our next 'big' holiday in 2025. I would highly recommend Reshma for all your travel needs.

Essential Vietnam and Cambodia tour

After a fantastic trip to the Golden Triangle last year, we had no hesitation in contacting Pete and Laurelle Colvin at Not Just Travel to provide options for a Vietnam and Cambodia tour. We choose G Adventures - first time for us going on a small group tour which fitted the bill and budget perfectly.

A holiday to remember

We met Tori (Not Just Travel) at a local summer fete last year and decided that as it was our 25th wedding anniversary this year, we really should make plans for a special holiday. We gave Tori a rough idea of where we wanted to go and dates and left it to her. We’ve just returned from a wonderful 2 week 2-centre holiday in Bequia and Barbados in the Caribbean. Tori organised flights, hotels (with a couple of options) and airport transfers, a day out horse- racing on Barbados, and gave us a contact for chauffeured airport transfers from home to Heathrow. Everything worked like clockwork, and surpassed our initial hopes and expectations. Truly the most stress free and enjoyable holiday I’ve had in a long time. Thank you Tori.

Prague Short Break

First time we'd booked a package holiday in years, normally just book holidays independently. We used Nikki Peachey @ Not Just Travel. She found us a holiday in Prague and although it wasn't in the area I'd been looking, we thought we'd give it a go. Location turned out to be perfect, very central and walkable to all the attractions. Easy commute from the airport. Hotel was lovely. Comfy beds, nice breakfast. Nikki knew exactly where we should be based. She also checked in on us whilst away, which was a lovely touch. Thank you Nikki for providing a great service

Disney holiday

This was my first time using a private travel agent and I was nervous at first. But I was reassured and all my questions were answered throughout the whole experience leading to a fantastic holiday xx

Mauritius Familymoon

We have recently returned from our familymoon to Mauritius. From our first call with Elliott, to our final flight home, everything was well organised and at every point of our journey, Elliott was on hand to help & answer any questions. Our trip was everything we imagined and more! We stayed at the luxury resort, Canonnier Beachcomber, which can only be described as a tropical paradise located on the beautiful northern coastline of Mauritius. We stayed in a family apartment, which was perfect for us and our three children and we were within close proximity of everything the resort had to offer. We were spoilt for choice with three restaurants to dine at and the food was delicious. We were particularly impressed with the entertainment that was put on every evening! We enjoyed the water sports available and also had the opportunity to make use of the facilities at other Beachcomber resorts. As our holiday soon came to end and then finding out our flight was cancelled, Elliott was in close contact with us, fortunately securing us another night at the resort. Now home in the UK, we hope to book another trip with Elliott!!

Philippa Hawketts has been amazing! I have asked Philippa to arrange a couple of holidays for me, one being a tame but interesting stag do as we are all older gentlemen with children. She did an incredible job finding exactly what we wanted, beach, beer, golf and great hotel location. Philippa is going to be very busy organising all my holidays from now on as she makes it so easy and stress free, everything is organised from flights to transfers to hotel and return! Very impressed! Thank you.

I have used Leyla Kent from NJT for the last 18 months and she has organised 2 trips to America and a winter sun trip to Lanzarote for me. Leyla takes a great deal of time to understand what is important to you as customer and tailors the trips around your requirements. The trip to America last year for thanksgiving with family was fantastic and seamless. From the flight to car hire to accommodation, everything was perfect. Leyla checks in before, during and after the trip to make sure everything is ok. We will continue to book with Leyla as it takes all of the stress out of it, thank you Leyla!

Fabulous Mauritius holiday

We had a recent holiday to Mauritius which we booked with Leyla Kent at Not Just Travel. Leyla really spent time with us to understand the sort of holiday we like and what we don’t like, and we were not disappointed. Leyla booked it all for us, kept us up to date and was very responsive to any questions so it made it all very easy which is important when busy life and work gives you little spare time. This is the third holiday Leyla has booked for us and every time it’s the thoughtful touches that really make the difference and all for a good price.

Philippa Hawketts is AMAZING!

Out of this world - I'm not sure what more I say about the personal support and genuine guidance that has been given by Philippa Hawketts. In the past using TA's, I have felt that they just want to fill the most expensive flights and accommodation available to line their pockets with commission, not Phillipa. She has booked all of my hotel, flights and transfers to a work retreat in Thailand and she is now managing bookings and support for lots of my clients in an upcoming Marbella retreat. Her care is second to none. Thanks you Phillipa! You are an asset.

Philippa Hawketts has been amazing

Reshma is the best

Reshma is the best, I have lost count of how many times we have used her and I wouldn't consider going elsewhere. She is quick to respond to enquiries, thoughtful in shaping holidays and has endless patience. It makes the excitement of travel start way before you even leave for the airport.

Should I Use a Travel Agent? Our Travel Expert Says It Makes All the Difference.

The new age of travel agents know how to find deals, book off-the-beaten path adventures, and get you out of any jam. Especially if you know who to use.

I’ve always thought that planning my own trips was the most cost-effective way, but I’ve been hearing more about travel agents making a comeback and saving their clients a lot of money. What kinds of outdoor trips should I turn to a travel agent for, and are there any who specialize in working with adventurers like me?

Technically, I’m a professional traveler. As a journalist, it’s my job to research and connect with locals to get beneath the surface of a destination. So I have never really used travel agents. What could they plan better than I could?

A lot, it turns out. Over the years, I’ve gotten to know many travel specialists, and I consider them magicians. My big aha moment happened two winters ago on a trip to Iceland . A massive storm shut down internal flights for a day, causing me to miss my return flight to the U.S. Normally, I would have spent frustrating hours on hold with the airline. But because I’d paid $65 to have Ana Gloria Garcia, an air-support specialist at the travel agency EmbarkBeyond, find and book the most affordable and convenient flight option for me, she handled the rebookings while I soaked in the Blue Lagoon.

A woman soaks in Iceland’s Blue Lagoon.

During the pandemic, agents became advocates helping travelers get refunds on canceled flights and trips. As travel has come roaring back, an agent’s superpower is now their access to the best hotel rooms, most in-the-know guides, free amenities, and more, says Cory Hagopian, senior vice president of sales and partnerships for Virtuoso , a global network of travel agencies.

And they’re attracting a young clientele. According to a recent industry survey , 38 percent of millennials and Gen Zers are opting to use travel agents as opposed to booking on their own trips. That number is far greater than Gen Xers and baby boomers, of whom only 12 and 2 percent respectively use agents.

What Do I Gain from Using a Travel Agent?

I recently had a friend tell me she spent close to 40 hours researching a family trip online. She probably could have gleaned the same intel from an hourlong conversation with a travel adviser. Knowledge is priceless, and advisers act as your insiders. They know what you don’t and fill in the blanks for things you might not have considered, says Erika Richter, a spokesperson for the American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA). Their firsthand knowledge, vast network, and on-the-ground connections all combine to provide a unique perspective for crafting the perfect itinerary for you.

Kayak, paddle, raft—a river trip down Costa Rica’s Pacuare is good fun. And Danielle Meyer of Coastline Travel likes to book clients in the riverfront, all-inclusive, 20-suite Pacuare Lodge. “The way to get to the property is by whitewater rafting, so you truly begin with adventure!”

Most travel advisers specialize in certain regions and countries and travel to them frequently, so they have up-to-date intel on not only the best safari camps but the perfect tent to book for the most incredible views and the best local restaurants you won’t find on Tripadvisor. They want their client’s trips to go well to keep them coming back, so it’s in their interest to have sussed out hotels and itineraries before they send you out into the world.

Nicole Forster, 29, considers herself a savvy traveler. She’s been to 20-plus countries and enjoys destination research. But when it came to planning her honeymoon in Africa, she felt overwhelmed, so she reached out to Danielle Meyer at Coastline Travel Advisors , which specializes in bespoke itineraries. “Originally, I wanted to go to South Africa, Victoria Falls, and Madagascar,” Forster recalls. “Danielle convinced me that if we wanted to relax, we should stay in South Africa and save the other countries for separate trips.”

Over five phone conversations and multiple emails, they crafted a 15-night itinerary that included Cape Town, the winelands, the Cape Peninsula, and a safari at the Thornybush Game Reserve. Forster established her budget early in the process, and Meyer sent her a variety of lodge options to choose from.

“I initially wanted to start with the safari, but she pointed out that we’d be jet-lagged and would need to wake at sunrise for game drives,” says Forster. “The safari was our highlight, so it was a perfect way to end the trip.”

A man sitting in an open-air vehicle while on safari in South Africa smiles at the camera while an elephant is just over his shoulder, approaching.

Not only did Meyer book all of the flights, hotels, and transfers, but she created a detailed, day-by-day trip app for the couple that included useful information like check-in times at hotels and how much to tip guides .

Agents also act as advocates. If something goes wrong during your travels, they’re on call 24/7 to handle it. When Forster left the battery and charger for her camera at a hotel, Meyer arranged for an on-the-ground contact to go to a camera store and buy new ones that would be delivered to her hotel the next day.

The cost for the honeymoon planning: $150 per person. “I wouldn’t use a planner for a trip to Hawaii ,” Forster says, “but if I ever took a big trip like this again, I’d 100 percent work with an expert.”

When to Consider Using a Travel Agent

For savvy trip planners, the best time to use a travel agent is for complicated international travel. It can save you hours of planning and peace of mind that if anything goes wrong in your chosen far-flung destination, there’s someone a What’sApp message away to handle it.

Domestically, I’d consider using a travel agent when planning a multi-week national park trip or multi-island trip in Hawaii. They will save you time, guarantee you get the best guides, and help you land reservations at always-booked lodges and hotels.

Dream Trips Delivered

Jessica Cook and her husband both work in the travel industry. Decision fatigued, they handed their honeymoon logistics over to the team at Askari Travel , an agency that specializes in South Africa. Their original plan was also an African safari, but just as they were about to put a deposit down, the Omicron variant of the coronavirus made headlines. Worried about getting stuck abroad, they reached out to Askari’s founder, Muriel Truter, who is from Zimbabwe, and upon her advice, changed their focus to South America.

Knowledge is priceless, and advisers act as your insiders. They know what you don’t and fill in the blanks of things you might not even have considered.

Truter suggested they stick to Colombia rather than country-hop. Cook supplied a budget and a wish list: 12 days, no more than three destinations, a barefoot-luxe feel, and adventures like horseback riding and mountain biking. The rest was a surprise that Askari pretty much nailed, with the exception of one hotel.

“Everything felt so authentic, but this one hotel on Barú island felt really fabricated and was full of American tourists,” recalls Cook. She immediately messaged the Askari team, saying, “Hey, this place really isn’t our vibe,” and within an hour they were on a water taxi headed to Blue Apple, a B Corp hotel—and an Outside pick for tropical adventures —on Tierra Bomba island. “It was honestly the best trip we’ve ever taken,” she says.

Tierra Bomba, a 15-minute boat ride from the Colombian capital of Cartagena, is an affordable Caribbean destination with a relaxed pace and soft white sands.

Are Travel Agents Expensive?

It depends. Cost varies. Some travel agencies won’t charge any fee, as they receive a commission from the bookings, while some high-end agencies will charge pricey annual membership fees for their services. Still others charge nominal “professional” fees starting at $150. Fees often fluctuate based on the length and intricacy of a trip and how far out you do the planning (6 to 12 months is recommended). You may occasionally come across agents who charge a percentage of the total trip price or hourly rates.

Basic travel enquiries are generally free. In 2016, Leah Smith, founder of Tafari Travel , opened an old-school brick-and-mortar location in Denver’s Cherry Creek neighborhood so her services would feel less intimidating to first-time users. “With our retail-office location, we’ve become part of the community, and both clients and non-clients are welcome to pop in and ask whatever questions they may have, no charge,” she says.

Matt Lindsay, founder of the surf-guiding and travel company LuxSurf Travel , builds relationships with resorts and property owners to get discounted rates that he can then pass on to guests.

Matt Lindsey of LuxeSurfTravel can arrange a surf safari on a 165-foot boat, complete with dive masters. surf guides, and a spa. Guests spend a week cruising around atolls in the Maldives seeking out perfect swell and swimming with whale sharks and manta rays.

Dominic Allan, the founder of Real Latin America , specializes in travel to Belize and Nicaragua and caters to independent travelers who are happy to book their own flights and hotels but are seeking his local intel. Allan’s three-tier pricing structure starts at $300 for up to three hours of phone calls, during which he might weigh in on where to eat (or not to), the best room to request in a certain lodge, or whether you really need a guide to hike.

”Totoro Eco-Lodge, in Nicaragua, has always been one of our favorites,” says Dominic Allen of Real Latin America. In addition to its laid-back vibe, it’s spectacuarly placed on Ometepe Island, with views out to the active Conception volcano. Allen recommends volcano hikes, rainforest excursions, tours of a chocolate farm, and sunset paddles in search of caiman.

Value Versus Savings

If you’re just looking for deals and steals, you might not be ready to work with a travel adviser, says Richter of the ASTA. “Anything you invest in with a travel adviser comes back to you in the form of amenities, customer service, peace of mind, better access to unique experiences, and handcrafted itineraries,” she says. “You could save money by cutting your own hair, too, but most people go to someone who knows what they’re doing.”

Agents work with preferred partners who can guarantee perks for clients, such as free upgrades, early check-in or late check-out, and resort credits. Those add-ons often translate into savings, says Justin Huxter, cofounder of the UK-based Cartology Travel . “We had a client go to Maui for a week, and because of our partnership with the resort, breakfast was included,” he says. When breakfast costs $120 for two, that’s a savings of $840.”

Some of the Best Travel Agents in the Adventure World

Some of my go-to resources for finding a person to work with include travel expert Wendy Perrin’s annual Wow List of tried and trusted agents, the Adventure Travel Trade Association’s adviser network , and the ASTA’s advisor directory .

In addition to the agents mentioned throughout this story, others I highly recommend for adventurous travelers include:

  • Dan Achber of Trufflepig , for Africa and the Middle East
  • Miguel Cunant of Sri Lanka in Style
  • Javier Echecopar of Journey Costa Rica
  • Daniel Fraser of Smiling Albino , for Southeast Asia
  • Elizabeth Gordon of Extraordinary Journeys , for Africa
  • Kleon Howe of the Art of Travel , for French Polynesia
  • Jay Johnson of Coastline Travel , for Hawaii and California
  • Antonello Losito of Southern Visions Travel , for Puglia, Italy

Ask Amy: Single woman doesn’t want to be hit on

Dear Amy: I am a single woman in my mid-50s. I never married or had children and like it this way.

I enjoy people, but am a classic introvert who recuperates her energy by being alone.

I enjoy going to museums and restaurants on my own. There is a restaurant/bar right down the street from me that I enjoy going to.

Recently, I went to this restaurant by myself and sat at the bar to have a drink and maybe eat something.

I wasn’t there for long when a man came up beside me, saddled up, and took up conversation with me. I really didn’t want to talk to him, and I didn’t want him sitting next to me.

I stayed polite and after an hour or so, I said goodnight, nice to meet you, and left. I did not want to eat with him next to me.

This week I again went to this restaurant by myself. This time I decided to sit at a table, hoping not to be approached by strangers.

Now, for the first time in my life, a man came up to my small, two-person table, pulled out the opposite seat, and sat down to join me without even asking or introducing himself.

The waiter arrived with my food just as this man had taken up an uninvited place at my table.

I asked the server to instead box up the food to go, as I didn’t want to eat with this stranger sitting at my table.

I took my food to go, left, and was super annoyed.

How would you suggest handling men who approach a woman who is not interested?

I feel as though men assume a woman is looking for company simply because she is on her own, and this is not the case.

— Perplexed

Dear Perplexed: If you want to drink or dine alone and not engage in lengthy conversation, you have the right to do that.

If you are at your favorite local place, there are extra seats at the bar, and someone (man or woman) sits right next to you and wants to engage in conversation, you can say, “I’m going to eat here, so let me give you some extra room … ” and move your seat. Make eye contact with the bartender to let them know you’re moving.

Unless this restaurant is one of those communal places where people pull up a chair at long tables, no one should ever sit at your two-top without being invited. Ever.

If this happens again and you don’t feel comfortable confronting the person who encroached upon you, you should immediately engage your waiter and/or restaurant host and ask them to handle it. You could wait at the host’s station while they remove the interloper and then return to your table.

Dear Amy: I believe that my brother is addicted to pot.

I know that pot is legal and I don’t care if people use it (I do, recreationally), but he is high All. The. Time. He is incredibly unreliable and just an overall stoner.

I have young children and they (and I) love him. But I am reluctant to let him take the kids places unless I am with him.

I guess I need a gut check. I’m wondering what you think.

— Unsure Sister and Mom

Dear Unsure: Your most basic job as a parent is to try your hardest to ensure your children’s safety.

The way you describe your brother, he doesn’t sound able to be responsible for these young children, so I agree with you that you should not send them out into the world with someone who is so obviously impaired.

Dear Amy: Your reply to “Taxed” fell short of your usually good responses.

Even though Taxed’s tax return was prepared by her boyfriend’s dad, a CPA, at no cost to her she is still entitled to professional service.

Making estimated tax payments is not a suggestion. It is a requirement.

And any ethical CPA should pay any penalties and interest resulting from their error.

The client should be responsible for the additional tax only.

— John Domke, IRS employee (retired)

Dear John: Thank you very much for offering your expertise.

My concern was that “Taxed” had not done even the most basic due diligence regarding her taxes and seemed to have signed returns prepared by an incompetent CPA.

What are monoclonal antibodies? Monoclonal antibodies are laboratory-made proteins that mimic the antibodies created by your immune system to fight off harmful viruses. Bamlanivimab + etesevimab and casirivimab + imdevimab are monoclonal antibodies that are specifically designed to protect against severe COVID-19 infection. The antibodies bind to the spike protein of the COVID-19 virus to stop the virus from entering your cells and continuing the infection.

That's all for this evening, but if you're just catching up, here is a recap of the key developments.

  • An Israeli fighter jet struck a refugee camp in the West Bank, killing at least one person and injuring eight;
  • The bodies of three Israeli hostages were recovered from Gaza;
  • An investigation was launched after a 450kg bomb fell from an Israeli fighter jet into an Israeli town;
  • Spain banned ships carrying weapons for Israel from docking at its ports;
  • Dozens of Israeli protesters in the West Bank attacked a truck in an apparent attempt to prevent aid from reaching Gaza, beating its driver and setting it on fire.

A group of US medical workers trapped at a hospital in Gaza have now left the territory, the White House says.

American doctors providing care in Gaza were unable to leave after Israel closed the Rafah border crossing.

Among them were 10 from the US-based Palestinian American Medical Association, who had intended to leave after a two-week mission at the European Hospital in Khan Younis.

Today, 17 American doctors and healthcare workers, out of a total of 20, left Gaza, White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said.

"I can assure you that any of them that wanted to leave are out," Mr Kirby said.

Three of the doctors chose not to depart Gaza, a source familiar with the situation said.

The Palestinian American Medical Association reported on Wednesday that its team of 19 healthcare professionals, including 10 Americans, had been denied exit from Gaza

Israel seized and closed the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt on 7 May.

The number of people injured by an Israeli airstrike in the West Bank has risen to eight, according to the Palestinian health ministry.

They are in a stable condition and receiving treatment at hospitals, it said.

As we reported in our last post, at least one person has been killed by the attack on Jenin refugee camp.

Residents of the camp said a house was targeted.

Unlike Gaza, such a strike is a rarity in the West Bank, which is run by the Palestinian Authority, not Hamas.

The Israeli military says a fighter jet has carried out a strike in Jenin in the West Bank.

One person was killed and two injured, the Palestinian health ministry said.

While Palestinians live in both Gaza and the West Bank, the territories are controlled by distinct groups.

Hamas has ruled over Gaza since seizing control in 2007 following a brief civil war with the Palestinian Authority.

The West Bank, meanwhile, is still run by the Palestinian Authority, headed by president Mahmoud Abbas.

By Mark Stone , US correspondent

A three-year-old Palestinian girl with an ultra-rare genetic condition has been forced backwards in her quest to leave Gaza for life-saving treatment.

Julia Abu Zeiter, whose story is being followed by Sky News, was moved with her family from a tent in the southern city of Rafah and relocated to a supposedly safer zone to the north and further away from the border they had hoped to cross.

Speaking to Sky News, her mother Maha said: "We were going through the travel procedures to leave Gaza. When the time for us to travel through Rafah crossing got close, the Israelis occupied the crossing, and they told us they want to invade Rafah."

She added: "I was between two fires, not knowing where to go. Do I go try to travel to treat my daughter or do I flee to another place?"

Read on here...

Israel has assured the US they are willing to continue discussions before making any major decisions on plans to assault Rafah, a US official has said.

White House national security spokesperson John Kirby said national security adviser Jake Sullivan will raise the issue on a visit to Israel to meet Benjamin Netanyahu.

Mr Sullivan will stress the need to go after Hamas in a targeted way, not with a full-scale assault on the southern city, Mr Kirby said.

He said it was important that the Rafah crossing was opened immediately.

The Israeli military seized control of the crossing between  Gaza and Egypt earlier this month.

Hamas says the US-built aid pier off Gaza's coast is no alternative to opening all land crossings under Palestinian supervision.

It added that they reject any military presence on Palestinian land.

Trucks carrying aid rolled across the pier today for the first time in an operation the US says will scale up to 150 truckloads a day.

But Gaza is already on the brink of famine, according to international aid organisations.

Aid groups also say land crossings are much more effective, and at least 500 trucks a day are required to meet the basic needs of the population.

Israeli restrictions on border crossings and heavy fighting have hindered the delivery of food and other supplies.

An investigation has been launched after a 450kg bomb fell from an Israeli fighter jet into an Israeli town this morning, according to reports.

Images showed the munition landed close to homes in Yated.

The Israeli military said it was intended for Rafah and described the incident as "unusual", reported the Times of Israel.

"Air Force technical teams arrived at the scene and began an in-depth investigation of the incident."

The Rafah strike was carried out moments later, the military said.

Israeli strikes on Lebanon have killed at least five people including Lebanese militants, Hamas fighters and Syrian civilians, security sources told Reuters.

A series of strikes on a coastal town further north than the usual conflict area killed a Hezbollah member as well as two Syrian civilians, the security sources said.

They said a separate Israeli strike on Majdal Anjar, on Lebanon's eastern border with Syria, killed two Hamas fighters.

Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire across Lebanon's southern border for seven months in parallel with the Gaza war, but it has ramped up in recent days.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military.

The recovery of the bodies of three hostages from Gaza is a "painful reminder" of those who are still in captivity, says a member of the Hostages and Missing Families Forum.

Professor Hagai Levine said over the last day, rumours circulating about which bodies had been returned to Israel were "very painful for the families" of all the captives.

It was important to bring home the bodies of hostages to give their families closure, he said.

"We do not lose hope. We are preparing for the return of the hostages that are alive," he said.

"As long as we promote a solution to release the hostages, it will also help to prevent further bloodshed in Gaza."

Turning to the approach the Israeli government has taken, Mr Levine said the government "is not representing well the desires of the public".

"There is a majority in Israel that believe that we should now promote regional agreements and together with the moderate countries, not the extremists, we should kick out Hamas... and replace them with another kind of government.

"This could really bring peace and prosperity to the Palestinians and to Israelis and to the entire region and we feel that the government is not doing enough."
