Paul McCartney announces South America leg of 2024 ‘Got Back’ tour

After cryptically teasing it, Paul McCartney and Co. will resume the “Got Back” tour in 2024 with a leg in South America.

In a social media post, Paul McCartney unveiled his 2024 South America tour plans. A live recording of the Beatles’ “Get Back,” which inspired McCartney’s tour name, plays in the background of a montage of the tour’s past shows.

“Paul will bring his acclaimed ‘Got Back’ tour to South America later this year, with shows in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Peru 🌎,” the post’s caption read.

Five shows were announced for the tour that will visit Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Peru. Presales will take place on Friday, June 14.

Per McCartney’s official website announcement , these shows will mark his first shows in the various countries in years. For example, he hasn’t played in Montevideo since 2014 and Bueno Aires since 2019. He also hasn’t been in Córdoba in eight years, Santiago in five years, and Lima in 10 years.

The “Got Back” tour

Beginning in April 2022, McCartney and his touring band kicked off the “Got Back” tour. He commenced the tour with a show in Spokane, Washington. He then played 15 more shows across North America before headlining the 2022 Glastonbury Festival.

In 2023, McCartney picked up the tour again with shows in Mexico and Brazil. This second leg of shows concluded on December 16, 2023.

The touring band consists of McCartney, Rusty Anderson, Brian Ray, Paul “Wix” Wickens, and Abe Laboriel Jr. They have been with McCartney since his 2002 tour, the “Driving Rain” tour. Additionally, McCartney tours with members of the Hot City Horns, Mike Davis, Kenji Fenton, and Paul Burton.

As for the setlist, McCartney takes fans on a three-hour journey through his discography. These include hits from his time with the Beatles and Wings. He also plays solo hits such as “Maybe I’m Amazed” and “Dance Tonight.”

Who is Paul McCartney?

Paul McCartney is best known for his time with the Beatles. While together, the Beatles released 13 studio albums from 1960-70.

After they broke up, McCartney instantly dove back into writing music. He released his first self-titled studio album, McCartney, in 1970. The following year, McCartney recorded Ram with his wife Linda as well as Wild Life with Wings.

As a band, Wings released seven studio albums. Coming up, McCartney will release the band’s live studio album, One Hand Clapping. Some of Wings’ biggest hits include “Band on the Run,” “Jet,” and “Silly Love Songs.”

After Wings broke up, McCartney got back into writing solo material. In 1980, he released McCartney II (which wouldn’t be followed-up with until 2020).

From then on, McCartney continued to release new music. Some of his notable albums include Tug of War, Flowers in the Dirt, New, and Egypt Station. McCartney III was released in 2020 and closed out his trilogy of self-titled albums.

Since 1989, McCartney has also been a touring machine. He embarked on his first solo tour in 1989. In 2002, he introduced a new touring band that he is still playing with to this day.

McCartney had first teased a 2024 tour with a post on his Instagram account that showed a roadie moving an equipment case marked “MPL 24.”

The legend’s setlist is typically 36 songs, drawing from his wealth of material with The Beatles, Wings and his solo career. He closed his 2023 “Got Back” tour at five major cities in Brazil, ending with a massive show at Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Paul McCartney Announces 2024 Tour Dates in South America

Paul McCartney has announced new tour dates for 2024 that will take place in South America later this year.

McCartney's Get Back tour will make stops in five South American cities beginning with Montevideo, Uruguay on Oct. 1. From there, he'll play shows in Argentina, Chile and Peru, with the last of the dates scheduled for Oct. 27.

A list of show dates with venue locations can be viewed below. Tickets will be available starting June 14.

"I've written before about the sheer admiration I have for Paul's stamina, and what a challenge it is to keep up with him, but it's unceasingly staggering to watch him consistently step up to the plate on a schedule that would render lesser mortals exhausted," McCartney's U.K. publicist, Stuart Bell, said in a statement back in February. "Something that I love to see while on tour with Paul is the new generations of fans coming to his shows. It's not just young people coming to see Paul, it's young people coming to see Paul with their parents, or even their grandparents, and having such a great time. The music connects them — it connects everybody — despite each song having a different meaning or significance to everyone."

Paul McCartney is headlining back to South America for concerts in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, and Peru this October.

Marking McCartney’s first confirmed live performances of 2024, the dates are a continuation of his “Get Back Tour,” which officially launched in 2022.

The newly announced shows take place in Montevideo, Uruguay on October 1st; Bueno Aires, Argentina on October 5th; Santiago, Chile on October 11th; Córdoba, Argentina on October 23rd; and Lima, Peru on October 23rd.

In a social media post from June 9, McCartney shared a video of a case being shut. It appears to be one that would hold music equipment and instruments for a tour.

No caption was shared with the video. However, one of McCartney's guitarists, Rusty Anderson, added fuel to the fire . He reposted the video with the caption, “Hmmm…”

His other guitarist, Brian Ray, also reposted the video on his story.

Both Ray and Anderson have been a part of McCartney's touring band since 2002. Paul “Wix” Wickens and Abe Laboriel Jr. are also a part of the band.

A 2024 Paul McCartney tour

It would be a big deal if Paul McCartney tours in 2024. He recently embarked on the “Got Back” tour from 2022-2023. Since Wings broke up, McCartney has gone on 17 concert tours. His current touring band has been with him since the 2002 “Driving Rain” tour.

The tour commenced on April 28, 2022, with a show in Spokane, Washington. Throughout the next couple of months, McCartney and his touring band traveled across North America. The first leg of the tour concluded on June 16, 2022, with a show at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The tour continued with a headlining show at the Glastonbury Festival in England. He would resume the tour in October 2023 with shows in Australia, Mexico, and Brazil.

It's unknown whether or not this impending tour announcement would mark a new tour or a continuation of the “Got Back” tour.

Who is Paul McCartney?

Paul McCartney is best known for his time with the Beatles. He was one of the primary songwriters of the Fab Four along with John Lennon. The band was together for a decade between 1960-70 and released 13 studio albums.

After the band broke up, Macca got to work with his first studio album, McCartney. He subsequently released Ram, which he recorded with his life Linda McCartney, and the first Wings album, Wild Life, in 1971.

Throughout the seventies, McCartney and Wings released six more albums including Band on the Run. McCartney will soon release a remastered live studio album, One Hand Clapping, from his time with Wings.

Since 1980, McCartney has released 17 studio albums. That doesn't include the five classical albums and three albums with The Fireman that he recorded.

His most recent studio album completed a trilogy of McCartney albums. McCartney III came out in 2020 and came out over 40 years after McCartney II. A remix edition of the album, McCartney III Imagined, was subsequently released in 2021. The likes of Idris Elba, Beck, Phoebe Bridgers, and Dominic Fike contributed to the album.

As an artist, McCartney has been nominated for 81 Grammy Awards. He has won 18 awards throughout his illustrious career. His most recent nominations came at the 2022 Grammys when he was nominated for Best Rock Album and Best Rock Song for McCartney III and “Find My Way,” respectively.
