Discover Southwest Algarve with us. Our lodge is the best location for a variety of tours both inland and along the Atlantic coastline. You’ll be stunned by the large number of different terrains, ranging from cliffs to remote beaches, from dried up streambeds to the mountain peak Foia close to the Monchique. We’re offering all avid motorbikers who adore off-road trips and Enduro motocross tours, a phenomenal adventure.

We will be on the road for between 5-6 hours on our day tours, some of which come up to 120 km and only 5 km of them on asphalt. Thanks to our new 2020 KTM EXC 450 Sixdays models, we are best equipped for our surrounding area.

Back at the lodge, either a pool with a cozy outdoor area or the beautiful Arrifana beach (a 2 minute walk) to switch off or cool off bruises, awaits you.

New ‘Excape’ Enduro tour company in Portugal

A new portuguese enduro riding experience company ‘excape tours’ has opened  up for business in the heart of extreme xl lagares territory – enduro, hard enduro, adventure and bespoke tours including one-to-one tuition with the legend that is paul bolton..

There’s a reason why so many people love riding enduro in Portugal, the terrain is awesome. Famously the country hosts the Extreme XL Lagares Hard Enduro each May and it is in this same Porto area that new enduro holiday company, Excape Tours, are based.

“Our services are on an all-inclusive basis, so the logistics are with us and the fun is up to you”, they explain. That means airport transfers, fuel, tyres, food, accommodation…it’s all covered and all on the new 2022 KTM EXC range.

Prices start at €900 for the ‘drop in’, two-day tour and increase depending on the tour length. The range of tours sounds cool and with the company base in the heart of Extreme Lagares territory, check out the three-day “Hard Enduro Tour’ on the rocks raced in the infamous event (sadly no prologue through the streets of Porto in this one though…).

The tour company is partly owned and run by a local rider to Lagares, Emanuel Moreira, with the help and involvement of Paul Bolton. This November sees the first Excape three-day, two nights trip with Bolts in charge of the riding days.

If you’re a real hard enduro fan and, for example, want to go and train for the XL Lagares race then Excape can also accommodate you. Their bikes, workshop, tools, jet washers and track guides are also available.

Our History

Portugal Enduros share the passion for adventure, nature and great motorbikes. We have designed exclusive and exciting itineraries to give the customer unforgettable motorbiking experience, at the same time discovering the hidden beauties of Portugal.

Operating from Portimão in Portugal, Portugal Enduro and Shaun Muir Racing collaborated together not only in the World Superbike Championship with BMW Motorrad, but also into Enduro and GS Adventure Tours, amongst others.

Shaun Muir Racing has a rich history in Motorsport having competed in the Isle of Man TT, the Ulster Grand Prix, the North West 200, the Macau Grand Prix, and the British Superstock, Supersport & Superbike series.

​After 13 years of competition in the British Superbike Championship which yielded titles in 2011 and 2015, the team made their debut in the Superbike World Championship in 2016. As veterans of motorcycle racing, SMR is a name that is widely revered and synonymous with success and quality.

01. Unrivalled power

The TE 150 has inherited the same fuel-injected technology from the bigger TE 250 and 300. This adds the convenience of a 4-stroke engine by eliminating the need to premix fuel or adjust jetting for altitude. The engine also uses specific shaft arrangements, which are designed to harness the rotating mass of the engine for nimble handling. This, among other developments, makes it a lightweight and compact engine providing usable enduro-specific power while maintaining the low-cost maintenance of a 2-stroke.

The TE 150 features a cylinder with a 58 mm bore and an innovative power valve design. This allows the lively 150 cc engine to deliver controllable power throughout the RPM range. The piston is designed to perfectly match the contour of the combustion chamber, delivering the highest level of 2-stroke performance. Additionally, the cylinder features injectors mounted at the inlet positions, which deliver the fuel downwards into the transfer port, guaranteeing excellent fuel atomization. This ensures more efficient fuel combustion, reduced fuel consumption and improved emissions.

Throttle body

The TE 150 uses a 39 mm throttle body with dual injectors positioned to optimise flow for a more immediate throttle response and exceptional rideability. Idle is controlled by the throttle valve, with one low load injector and one top feed injector ensuring maximum performance. Additionally, a Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) offers reliable cold starting with the throttle valve pivoting on ball bearings for a smoother throttle action.

An electronic oil pump feeds vital 2-stroke oil into the engine. It is located just below the oil tank and feeds the oil via the reed cage, meaning the oil is only mixed with air at this stage. The pump is controlled by the EMS and delivers the optimal amount of oil according to the current RPM and engine load. The oil tank is connected to a filler hose which runs through the upper tube of the frame to a filler cap conveniently located for easy refills.

Designed for minimal weight, the crankcases on the TE 150 engine feature a thin-wall design. To centralize mass, the shaft arrangements are precisely positioned to harness rotating masses at the ideal center of gravity, while improved sealing is taken care of by the reed block which features optimized carbon fiber reed petals.

Tailored specifically for the TE 150 using an innovative 3D design process, the header pipe ensures unrestricted performance and offers improved ground clearance to reduce the risk of impact damage out on the trail. The silencer also features an aluminium mounting bracket and advanced internal construction for excellent noise damping and weight saving.

02. State-of-the-art chassis

The proven chromium molybdenum steel frame is refined for 2024. A new shock mounting, which is no longer connected to the main tube, significantly improves the anti-squat behavior of the chassis. With optimized wall thickness in high-stress areas improving reliability, the frame continues to offer advanced geometries and flex characteristics aimed at providing unparalleled rider feedback, energy absorption, and straight-line stability. The frame is complete with a premium metallic blue powder coating with redesigned standard frame protectors offering improved grip in all conditions. Additionally, the redesigned and robust skid plate offers exceptional frame and engine protection.

Hybrid subframe

Made from 60% polyamide and 40% aluminum, the subframe offers exceptional strength and durability at a low overall weight of just 3.9 lb (1.8 kg). The lower subframe spars and frame mounts are manufactured from cast aluminum for reliability with the upper section made from injection-molded polyamide to enable specific flex characteristics.

The swingarm is manufactured using a die-cast production process for optimal rigidity. To match the flex characteristics of the chassis, a 22 mm rear axle is utilised. Additionally, the swingarm is designed to enhance the durability of the chain glider while the chain guide features a rounded profile that makes it less prone to catching on external objects.

Adorned with clean, Swedish-inspired graphics, the bodywork is refined with the ergonomics allowing riders to perform at their best for extended periods of time. Adapted after countless hours of testing, the contact points and surfaces in the rider triangle have been repositioned for 2024 to further improve comfort on the motorcycle. A flatter seat profile offers unrestricted movement with a new, high grip cover ensuring riders stay firmly in place under hard acceleration. Above the side panels, recessed pockets allow for the machine to be lifted and moved, which are particularly beneficial for those competing in extreme enduro events.

A 2.24 gallon (8.5 liter) fuel tank integrates neatly with the ergonomic bodywork and features a robust rubber cushion beneath it to hold the tank in place and protect the frame from wear. The one-piece fuel pump design and integrated filter allows the tank to be emptied further, which is particularly beneficial during longer events. For durability, the external fuel line is specifically routed to make it less exposed and susceptible to damage.

Manufactured from high-strength aluminium, the radiators are designed using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to channel air through them in the most effective way. A large centre tube channels coolant through the frame to reduce pressure at this point in the system for a more consistent flow. An internal thermostat enhances reliability while the radiator cap features a bayonet style closure for a secure fitment.

03. Innovative advantage

WP XACT front forks

Each of Husqvarna Motorcycles' enduro machines is now equipped with WP XACT Closed Cartridge spring forks. Designed and developed for the rigours of enduro riding, the fork offers consistent performance thanks to the closed cartridge spring design which optimises oil flow and prevents it from foaming. The addition of a new hydrostop, effective in the last 68 mm of travel, is highly effective on heavy landings to maintain maximum forward momentum. Additionally, riders can alter the compression and rebound settings quickly and easily using the tool-free adjusters found at the top and bottom of each fork leg.

WP XACT rear shock

The lightweight WP XACT rear shock offers 300 mm of travel. With the rebound and both high and low speed compression adjustable by hand, setting changes can be achieved quickly and easily without tools. Complete with a CFD optimised shock piston, low friction seals, and a new, smaller linkage bolt to reduce weight, consistent damping, comfort, and traction is guaranteed.

Hydraulic brakes

The highest level of performance is guaranteed with the latest BRAKTEC braking systems which are specifically designed for enduro riding. New callipers, new brake pads, new levers, and new brake lines together with the GSK wave discs (260 mm disc front and 220 mm rear) result in a sensitive and progressive feel ensuring enhanced control in all conditions.

Hydraulic clutch

The new, high-performance Brembo hydraulic clutch system delivers even wear, near maintenance-free operation, and perfect feel in every condition. With this hydraulic system, free play is constantly compensated so that the pressure point, and the function of the clutch, remain identical in cold or hot conditions, as well as over time. Countless hours of testing have proven the reliability of the high-quality, Italian-made Brembo hydraulic system.

Wheels and tires

Black high-strength alloy rims by D.I.D are laced to CNC machined hubs using lightweight spokes and silver anodized aluminum nipples. Fitted to the wheels are Dunlop Enduro tires, which are used by Husqvarna Factory Racing, as they offer superior grip on a wide variety of terrain.

Triple clamps

The black-anodized, CNC-machined triple clamps offer premium quality as standard. They have a carefully calculated 22 mm offset and are expertly crafted using superior techniques and materials for the highest levels of quality and reliability. The handlebar clamp has a large contact surface with the ProTaper bars to help prevent twisting in the event of an impact and offers two mounting options for customizable ergonomics.

04. Technology advanced

LED headlight

The LED headlight provides a remarkably bright light output for excellent visibility at night and is particularly effective when riding through dense woodland. A clever mounting design sees the LED lighting unit fitted inside the headlight mask using a quick-release system that allows it to be replaced quickly and easily if damaged.

By using the Map Select Switch, the engine characteristics can be tailored to modify the power delivery according to rider preference and conditions. It has two settings that can be engaged while riding - Map 1 (white) is the standard map for linear, progressive power designed for hard pack terrain while Map 2 (green) is more aggressive and suited to sand and heavier conditions.

Using state-of-the-art computational fluid dynamics, the large footrests are designed for maximum control and to prevent mud from building up. Additionally, the mounting position brings them inwards, which makes them less susceptible to catching on the ground through deep ruts.

Electric start

All TE models come standard with an electric starter. The system uses a compact and lightweight Li-Ion battery, which is 2.2 lb (1 kg) lighter than a conventional battery. With several years of experience in developing and perfecting electric starting, the proven reliability of the Husqvarna enduro range is second to none and ensures quick and easy starting at all times. Additionally, the wiring harness and electrical components are safely located below the seat for easy accessibility.

Engine management system

The Vitesco Engine Management System (EMS) is designed to be small, light, and fast at processing data. It incorporates a Rollover Sensor (ROS) that cuts the ignition and shuts off the engine in the event of a severe crash for an additional layer of security.

This enduro tour gives you the opportunity to experience what is commonly known as the hardest race in the Extreme Enduro world calendar WESS. For four nights you will be lodged at centre of Porto and have a unique opportunity to follow closely the elite riders of Hard Enduro such as Mario Roman, Wade Young, and Jonny Walker.

But you did not come all the way here just to watch, you can also enjoy the winding trails of this race, while riding on your dirtbike. For three days, feel the adrenaline and the harshness that are at the heart of this extremely technical tour. Evening begins with a well earned rest, sitting around the table and enjoying great local food, followed by a fun night out in the vibrant Porto nightlife.

This tour is the perfect mix between a great city break and the passion for dirt bikes. A unique opportunity to watch one of the best Hard Enduro races on the world with plenty of time left to enjoy what Porto has to offer.
