Red Hot Summer Tour 2024 – Series Three

RED HOT SUMMER TOUR  is thrilled to announce the next series of dates for the 2024 season from one of Australia’s most sought-after summer festivals. These iconic outdoor shows will take place in various locations across the country, and for series three, this star studded-line-up will feature  SUZI QUATRO  taking centre stage, playing with international juggernauts  CHEAP TRICK,  alongside Aussie favourites  Jon Stevens, The Angels, Baby Animals, The Screaming Jets , and  Chocolate Starfish .

The undisputed Queen of Rock,  SUZI QUATRO,  will be returning for her 38th tour of Australia to headline this next series. Audiences have always loved it when she is part of RED HOT SUMMER TOUR. There are few female performers who have a career as successful and versatile as SUZI QUATRO . After decades of accomplishments, it’s no surprise to find out that she has never stopped working in one guise or another, whether it is playing her solo rock show to packed houses, hosting her own show on the BBC Radio 2, performing on the West End or penning hit songs. To date, this enigmatic performer has sold over 55 million records, in fact, for a seven-year period in the 1970s she was featured in the British charts for an incredible 101 weeks. Her hits include ‘The Wild One’, ‘48 Crash’, ‘Devil Gate Drive’, ‘She’s in Love with You’ and ‘If You Can’t Give Me Love’ to name a few.

In 2019, the world saw the release of her documentary,  SUZI Q , and it topped the Amazon charts around the globe. In August this year, she released ‘Face To Face’, her duet album with KT Tunstall which has had huge success. It picked up ‘album of the year’ presented by Jools Holland, album of the week on BBC Radio 2 and over half a million plays in the USA. It’s been critically acclaimed and charted in many countries around the world. This year marks the 50th Anniversary of ‘Can the Can’ being No. 1 and  SUZI will mark the occasion with 5 special shows in the UK.

With over 5,000 performances spanning four decades, 20 million records sold worldwide, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame,  CHEAP TRICK  are undoubtedly one of the most influential classic rock groups of the past 50 years.

The band was formed in 1974 and while it has evolved throughout the years,  CHEAP TRICK  has continued to reach mainstream and critical success. Hits such as ‘The Flame’, ‘Dream Police’, ‘I Want You To Want Me ’ and ‘ Surrender’ have cemented the group as one of America’s top rock ‘n’ roll bands of all time. They released their 20th studio album, In Another World, in April 2021.

Jon Stevens  is recognised as one of the most talented rock musicians to emerge from Australia in recent memory. He has had phenomenal success as a solo artist, and was also the lead singer of major rock acts Noiseworks, INXS, and Dead Daisies. His career has gone from strength-to-strength: a record-

smashing debut at age 16 with two consecutive No. 1 singles in his New Zealand homeland. He also enjoyed huge hits in Australia as lead singer with Noiseworks. Stevens 21st-century liftoff to worldwide acclaim was at centre stage with INXS, and a song released by Dead Daisies which he co-wrote and produced with the legendary Slash on guitar. Ringo Starr plays the drums on the lonely ballad ‘One Way Street’ and ‘Something Bout You’ features the vocals of Vanessa Amorosi.

Australian rock band Noiseworks released ‘Heart & Soul’ on August 15th, 2022, as the lead single from their new studio album ‘Evolution’. The single album came as a long-awaited gift to Noiseworks fans who had been thirsting for new music from the iconic rockers for 30 years.

Crowd favourites,  The Angels , will see former drummer  Nick Norton  taking centre stage as their new front man replacing Dave Gleeson after his 12 years in the role. With a set-list of catalogue classics that are ingrained in the hearts of every Australian rock fan, it is no wonder that the famous American critic David Fricke called The Angels  “a guaranteed great time anywhere”.

As Ian McFarlane, the author of  The Encyclopedia of Australian Rock and Pop , noted: “ The Angels helped re-define the Australian rock tradition.”  And now  John Brewster, Rick Brewster, Sam Brewster, Tom Brewster  and  Nick Norton  are giving it another twist. Let the night roll on!

red hot summer tour bella vista

It’s bringing huge names including Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning, Missy Higgins, Mark Seymour, Vika & Linda and Ian Moss & Troy Cassar-Daley to Ballarat, Bendigo, Mildura, Wodonga and Mornington.

Guaranteed to cool you down more than a Zooper Dooper, the  Red Hot Summer Tour has announced its return for 2023 with a phenomenal line-up bringing together some of the most iconic names in Australian music.

And we mean ICONIC!

The tour, which will take to Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Tasmania and Queensland, features Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning, Missy Higgins, Mark Seymour, Vika & Linda and Ian Moss & Troy Cassar-Daley.

Keep up with the latest festival news via our website.

“We are so excited about this line-up and the regions we will be visiting,” says tour promoter Duane McDonald can’t wait to hit the road in 2023.

“The amount of hits produced by these artists is incredible. The tour has always been about taking great music to the regions, and supporting phenomenal Australian artists. We are so grateful to be able to continue to do this, and to share these experiences with all the music fans who continue to turn out year after year. We look forward to seeing everyone this summer.”

Paul Kelly  has been writing songs, making records and touring for over forty years. Along the way he has released over 40 albums, including live concerts, compilations and soundtracks. He has collaborated with many other artists, notably writing  Treaty  with Yothu Yindi and co-producing Archie Roach’s landmark debut album  Charcoal Lane . His awards, too numerous to mention, include 17 ARIAs and an Order of Australia. He has published several books, including collections of his lyrics, a memoir  How To Make Gravy  and an anthology of his favourite poems  Love Is Strong As Death . Paul’s songs have a way of digging into the country in a way that few artists do – how it looks, feels, tastes, sounds. The joys and sorrows, achievements and follies. If you want to know something about Australia, how it feels to be Australian, you can find it in his songs. His live shows in recent years reveal a performer and band at the peak of their powers. They bring all the shades and colours. Passionate, dramatic, tender and emotional. For the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR run he will be playing a generous selection from his ever-green, ever-selling greatest hits record  Songs From The South,  as well as delving into a range of songs from his vast catalogue.

We’re really looking forward to these shows,” Paul Kelly says. The last two years have brought home how precious live music is. To us and to those who come. We need each other. We’re going to bring it, give our all and play each show as if it’s our last. Because you never know what’s around the corner.

Bernard Fanning  has accumulated one of the most celebrated songbooks on the Australian rock spectrum. The former Powderfinger frontman has collectively released 11 studio albums producing songs that have become ingrained in the Australian psyche. Tracks like  My Happiness ,  These Days ,  Sunsets ,  Burn Your Name ,  Wish You Well,   Songbird ,  Blue Toowong Skies  and  Belly Of The Beast  have become the moving soundtrack for a generation, with Bernard’s emotive and distinctive voice completely capturing our hearts. He has a trophy cabinet that holds seven number #1 albums, 23 ARIA Awards, and five APRA Awards to name a few… his songs have appeared in triple j’s Hottest 100 an incredible 23 times including three #1 spots for  These Days  (1999),  My Happiness  (2000) and  Wish You Well  (2005). It’s fair to say Bernard Fanning has firmly cemented his position as one of Australia’s finest singer-songwriters and lyricists. With over 20 years of touring, expect a rock show with swagger, entertaining banter, crowd interaction and a display of pure musical talent by a member of Australian rock royalty and his band who are the perfect accompaniment to his wide-ranging set list of heartfelt country – folk tinged charm and classic rock grooves.

“I can’t wait to get back on the road to do some ‘proper’ touring after almost three years of dribs and drabs and disruption. A lot of the towns on this run I have NEVER played before in 30 years of touring, so I can’t wait to get out there and play stuff from right across my career,” Bernard Fanning says.

Missy Higgins  is one of our most beloved singer/songwriters and her acclaimed studio albums,  The Sound of White ,  On  a Clear Night ,  The Ol’ Razzle Dazzle,   Oz  and  Solastalgia   have sold more than two million copies. Classic songs like  Scar ,  The Special Two ,  Steer ,  Everyone’s Waiting  and  Futon Couch , plus her unforgettable live shows, have made Missy an authentic household name. She has won nine ARIA awards and multiple APRA Awards. Missy also received a Screen Music Award for Best Original Song composed for the Screen for Australian Film  Don’t Tell .  Earlier in 2022, Missy released mini-album  Total Control  featuring songs inspired initially by the musical fragments she wrote for the powerful ABC TV Series of the same name. The songs pick up themes of exploitation and female empowerment that run through  Total Control  and which also dominated real world headlines last year as a string of abuse allegations emerged from Parliament House. The stories Missy shares through songwriting come to life on stage as enjoyed by the thousands of fans who attend her concerts.

Mark Seymour  formed Hunters and Collectors in 1980 with a bunch of Uni friends. The band become famous for its rhythmic power and very quickly became touted as the ‘next big thing’. The album  Human Frailty  has proven to be one of the most important and enduring record of the 80s. With  Human Frailty,  Mark discovered love, loss, and pop melody – his solo records are directly connected to this era and bear the same stamp of raw honesty and emotional power. He continues to search for the emotional truth in a song. As well as 13 Hunters and Collectors albums, Mark has released eight further albums. Mark Seymour is one of our finest songwriters, capturing our stories of love, loss, human courage and achievement.

Vika & Linda’s  effortless harmonies and journey through rock, country, gospel, reggae, R&B, soul and blues, while always paying tribute to their rich Tongan heritage, has earned the respect and admiration of their greatest fans – the renowned Australian artists they’ve performed and recorded with, and whose work their voices have enhanced.  Paul Kelly says  “Their voices combined sound salty-sweet and have that elusive twinned quality you only get when siblings sing together …  They  make the air beat in sync.”   In September 2021, Vika & Linda released  The Wait , their first original studio album since 2002. It debuted at #2 on the ARIA chart.  The Wait  has continued a triumphant period for Vika & Linda which saw them score their first number one album with their career anthology,  ‘Akilotoa , and three months later a #2 debut for their gospel collection,  Sunday (The Gospel According To Iso) .

Ian Moss  and  Troy Cassar-Daley , two powerhouse artists, joined forces in 2022 for one of the year’s most successful tours. A truly remarkable partnership, with simplicity proving to be a powerful vessel to tell a story and share a song, will continue into 2023 via the RED HOT SUMMER.  Ian Moss , a founding member of one of Australia’s greatest bands, Cold Chisel, is respected globally as one of our most iconic musicians. A multi-award winner, Mossy, who delivers a unique sound – not only as a telling soloist on guitar but also with his silken voice ringing with clarity and resonating with pure soul – was described by Cold Chisel bandmate Don Walker as  “the most gifted musician I’ve ever seen.”  Enough said.  Troy Cassar-Daley , a proud Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung man, comes from a long line of storytellers and is regarded as one of Australia’s finest songwriters. On his way to collect every accolade possible including ARIA’s, APRA’s, Golden Guitars (the most in the awards history), Deadlys, National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) and more, he has written with Paul Kelly, penned the anthemic  Shutting Down Our Town  for Jimmy Barnes, and recently Briggs sampled Troy’s harrowing and impactful story of  Shadows On the Hill . No matter what story Troy is telling via song you just need to listen.

The RED HOT SUMMER TOUR always sells out around the country and the 2023 line-up is highly anticipated. Don’t miss this massive 2023 celebration of Australian music.

I can’t wait to get back on the road to do some ‘proper’ touring after almost three years of dribs and drabs and disruption. A lot of the towns on this run I have NEVER played before in 30 years of touring, so I can’t wait to get out there and play stuff from right across my career. – Bernard Fanning.

It will be so good to get back on the road and play in so many incredible parts of the country. The past few years have shown us that we can’t take anything for granted and being able to tour again will be very special, it’s what I love to do most. I’m also really looking forward to sharing the stage with such incredible Aussie artists. – Missy Higgins.

The Red Hot Summer has grown into one of the biggest tours on our national music calendar. It does what few other festivals can. It goes to where people live which is pretty much everywhere. Reaching people matters deeply to me so I really appreciate the opportunity to be part of this fabulous bill in 2023. – Mark Seymour .

I live close to this venue and film/photograph here often over the past several years, so when I saw the Red Hot Summer Tour was going to be on the 26th, I asked Duane (The Promoter) If could photograph it again who told me to contact Eva-who ended up getting me the Pass to photograph which I really appreciated. Thanks so much, Duane McDonald (Regional Touring) and Eva Roberts.

I’ve been trying the past few years to film/photograph bands I grew up listening to and Paul Kelly, Bernard Fanning & Missy Higgins I had been trying to do for a few years now, and Ian Moss, (I have done this numerous times in the past 11 years) but not with Troy Cassar-Daley. So I was looking forward to those artists as well as Mark Seymour I did at the last Red Hot Summer Tour back in 2020, also at Bella Vista Farm and Vika & Linda (I’ve done before Girrakool festival) and Bo’Ness (brothers) who I had not seen before.

The day started with Bo’Ness. Twin brothers Callum and Jackson. Very Talented Musicians as well. They started off playing acoustic Guitars. I don’t know their music so I can’t really say what the names of each song were. But they do great harmonies and individually have really good voices and play exceptional Guitar. Callum stayed on Acoustic and Jackson Eventually played Electic guitar, using a Tele. They both are at ease in front of a good crowd who were right behind them. Their MUms birthday too. She was at the Merch tent apparently. Eventually one day they will headline a festival on their hard work over the years. Hope to one day have a chance to film them as they don’t seem to have a lot of Live video online. Possibly on Twitter. Thoroughly enjoyed their entire set though. Always good to hear new music and talented musicians. I can only wish them all the best for The Present Future and will be interesting to see them evolve their music over the coming years.

From their website: Identical twins, Callum and Jackson McPartlane are each one half of the exciting new duo storming the Australian music scene, Bo’Ness Brothers. Their Everly Brothers-esque sibling harmony tangles with acoustic guitars to create a unique Rock and Country blend. At just 19 years of age these boys from the Gold Coast have already opened the national Red Hot Summer tour and melted hearts on The Voice Australia 2020. Of course, we all know success doesnít happen overnight and Bo’Ness have certainly paid their dues. Growing up just outside of Melbourne, in rural Whittlesea, as the children of parents in the music industry, the brothers were drawn to performing from an early age. Every so often we’d be asked to go up on stage with the artists our parents were touring with, recall Callum and Jackson. We would always get good reactions and that helped us big time with being comfortable and confident on stage

Mark Seymour and The Undertow.

Mark Seymour I photographed at the last Red Hot Summer Tour back in 2020. I had grown up listening to the Collectors and saw them once back then. So when I had a chance to photograph him in 2020 I was really looking forward to that show and to have another chance to watch him play and photograph his band and play Throw Your Arms Around Me, Holy Grail, Do You See What I See and a few other’s again at Bella Vista Farm, I couldn’t wait. The crowd knows all those songs. Those songs and his newer ones are just so raw and really inspiring. Mark has such a unique style of voice and playing. His band The Undertow is made up of exceptional Musicians. Being part of Australian Music History. Just a great set. I will add the rest of the band names when I find out who they are.

The Undertow are: Mark Seymour Vocals & Guitar. Cameron McKenzie Guitar. Peter Maslen Drums. John Favaro Bass Guitar.

From Mark’s Website: The following is an excerpt from the Newcastle HERALD: When did you write Slow Dawn and where? Where did the lyrics come from?

“I started writing in South Africa. We toured there in 2017. I was deeply moved by the history of that country and found myself drawing historical comparisons with Australia. Both nations were formed on the back of the expansion of the British empire and the pursuit of wealth by European entrepreneurs. Recent research in this country has re-focussed our attention on the racial violence inflicted on indigenous Australians during the original occupation of land by white settlers and paints an entirely different picture from the benign stories I was brought up with. The song Slow Dawní touches directly on this subject. I spent the early part of my childhood in Victorian country towns where racism was a hidden but largely accepted part of our lives. To draw comparisons between the conspicuous racial violence in South Africa and the secrecy surrounding the massacres of early colonial life in Australia only leads to one conclusion. Australia dodged a bullet.”

FB: https://www.facebook.com/MarkSeymourOfficial

I first photographed them both at the Girrakool Festival in 2019. They both have had such a huge career backing some of Australia’s major artists. The Black Sorrows, Paul Kelly (who was on this bill headlining) John Farnham & Archie Roach. As sisters they have a close connection that shows in how they react to each other as they harmonise. Vika does much of the Main vocals (but they swap for each song). She has such a forceful voice, while Linda is more melodic and slightly higher in pitch. Together though, they compliment each other, and when they look each other’s way they give each other a knowing smile. They are becoming well known as their own musical identity and the large crowd knows their songs and applauds each song deservedly. Myself, I enjoy watching and listening to them as if they are a new artist as I’ve always known them as backing singers of the highest calibre, so it’s good to hear them as they make their way as artists in their own right. The band they had were also very good. Guitarist. Bass Player, Keyboard, and Drummer. I will have to search out their names. Just two very talented singers who I wish the very best to in the future.

From Vika and Linda Bull’s website. Website: https://vikaandlindabull.com/

Vika & Linda’s approach is simple. We always like to work with Australian songwriters and we love to harmonise with each other. But that statement belies the beauty and depth of their work. After making their public singing debut performing Everything Is Hunky Dory Children Of The Lord in church Vika & Linda formed their own band, The Honeymooners, in 1987. The following year, after being recommended by drummer Peter Luscombe, they joined The Black Sorrows initially for a six-week tour; they stayed for six years. In 2016, Vika & Linda received a Special Recognition Award at the Pacific Music Awards, presented in New Zealand. They were inducted into the Music Victoria Hall of Fame in 2019 by their good friend Kate Ceberano. Kate said, always together forever together we celebrate their important position in the history of Australian music.

I first saw Ian Moss on Nov 18th, 1978 Opening for Peter Frampton at the Sydney Sports Ground. Then at The Manly Vale Hotel in 1980 and the Comb & Cutter Hotel (Kerb and Gutter as it was known) at Blacktown. I also saw Ian play with Cold Chisel on February 5, 1979, At Adelaide Oval. In 2012 while walking back with Ian after an interview he had just done at the Sydney Blues and Roots Festival with Rhythm magazine (Which I had filmed) I mentioned how I saw Cold Chisel play that day. He gave me his email and I filmed/photographed him at the Brass Monkey and multiple times since and eventually with Cold Chisel (The Barking Spiders) at the Enmore Theatre and at Parramatta stadium in 2020. I filmed/photographed The Brad Johns Benefit on 10/4/2022 and Ian and Troy did a recorded message (backstage at their gig at the time) for Brad which they showed on the screens next to the stage and from then on I had been trying to film/photograph them both. So to have the chance to photograph them at this show was a great experience for me. Ian has been voted numerous times as Australia’s best Guitarist.

Again, their band was brilliant. Drummer (???) & Bass Player-Zoe Hauptmann. I’d only seen Troy on TV not live and he is such a great guitarist and performer. Together with Ian, it’s such a brilliant show to watch. Two iconic Australian performers together. Troy talks about his Aboriginal heritage which at times is quite painful for him I am sure. His mother is from the Gumbaynggirr and Bundjalung people. The son of an Aboriginal mother and Maltese father, says it is time for Australia to tell the truth about its past and the treatment of Indigenous peoples and he wants to be a part of it. No wonder Troy has won so many industry awards as he is truly an Australian Icon. I will also have to try and film/photograph him one day. Always a smile on his face.

From the first song, the crowd cheers for both of them as they share Vocals and Guitar. I wasn’t there to remember every song they played, just take photographs and to watch them play as it’s hard to remember individual songs when you’re engrossed in the Moment and their playing. They both played songs they had written together and in each of their careers. Cold Chisel songs thrown in and Ian’s solo career as well as Troy’s songs from his career and co-written numbers. I usually film bands/festivals as well and then could write down what songs they played. Would have been great to see an entire concert from them. 2 hours or more. An hour is never enough when you’re talking about these great musicians. Bass Player Zoe Hauptmann talented musician who also played with Missy Higgins this day. Just a brilliant set and a privilege to photograph them both together.

From Troys website THE TCD STORY

Troy Cassar-Daley has released 11 studio albums throughout his thirty years of making music. He is a proud Gumbaynggirr/Bundjalung man who comes from a long line of storytellers and shares his musicianship with so many artists across different styles of music. His passion to pen stories about this land and what lies at the heart of it has been a driving force in his career. Troy has been awarded numerous accolades including a record-breaking 40 Golden Guitars, 5 ARIAs including one for the 2021 Country Album of the Year with The World Today, 3 APRA Song of the Year awards, 9 Deadlys (Australian Indigenous Artist Awards), 4 CMAA Entertainer of the Year awards plus 2 NIMAs (National Indigenous Music Awards). In 2017 Troy was honoured as the 50th inductee into the prestigious Australasian Roll Of Renown. He has had numerous gold and platinum albums and achieved a staggering 34 Number 1 chart singles. His songs have been the soundtrack to the everyday triumphs, struggles, and good times for Australians from our small towns to the big cities.

Troy Breaks Golden Guitar Record for Most Won! Apr 20, 2022. In an historic night, Troy was named Male Artist of the Year. His album The World Today claimed gold in the Top Selling Album of the Year category, while his track ìSouthî with Ian Moss was named Vocal Collaboration of the Year. Troy has now claimed 40 Golden Guitar Awards, surpassing fellow country legends Slim Dusty and Lee Kernaghan, to claim the greatest number of Golden Guitars Awards ever won by an individual artist. He performed ìBack On Country,î the lead single from his award-winning album The World Today.

From Ian’s Website

Respected as one of Australia’s iconic musicians, Ian Moss delivers an unforgettable sound ñ not only as a telling soloist on guitar but especially with his silken voice, ringing with clarity and resonating with pure soul. While primarily recognised as an axeman of unusual tenacity and sweet melodic sensibility, Ianís distinctive vocal is the essential signature of his soulful, bluesy muse ñ as it has been since his first tentative foray into music during the early 1970s. Born and raised in Alice Springs, Ian started playing guitar in local teenage bands but moved to Adelaide after failing one of his high school years, planning to repeat in the big city. Fate intervened when he answered an advertisement for a guitarist in a shop window in 1973, joining the band that was to become a legend in Australia Cold Chisel. After Moss joined organist and principal songwriter Don Walker and drummer Steve Prestwich, the group took shape with singer Jimmy Barnes and eventually bass player Phil Small, starting the hard grind of playing gigs on the back of flatbed trucks and in suburban hotels. Barnes remembered young Mossy as a boy from the bush who didn’t wear shoes but played fantastically. They hit the road and paid their dues, playing countless one-night stands across the country. The reputation and status of Cold Chisel steadily grew, mainly on the strength of blistering live shows, and in time their well-crafted recordings became staples of radio airplay.

By 1980, with the release of the seminal East album, Cold Chisel was the biggest band in the country. Moreover, they defined a national sound ñ hard-driving rock chased by a shot of blues, lyrics depicting the Australian experience and resonating powerfully with young working-class fans. Mossís voice began to shine through such seminal Cold Chisel songs as Never Before, Bow River (written by Moss), and a gorgeous rendition of Ray Charlesí Georgia. However, efforts to translate overwhelming Australian success to Europe and the United States failed to gain traction, serving to demoralise, frustrate and eventually dissolve the band at the height of its creative powers. While the bandís Last Stand tour in December 1983 closed an important chapter in Ian Mossís musical career, Cold Chisel remains one of Australiaís favourite bands long after its demise.

I have been wanting to film/photograph MIssy Higgins for a long time, as part of my journey to record bands/musicians I grew up listening to. Again, was a privilege to be able to photograph such an iconic musician, singer, songwriter, keyboard player, and guitarist. She is quite the talent. Enjoyed everything about her music and playing. She has had quite a life from which to choose lyrics from and every song from her life is very deep and meaningful in its content. Her music is unique to her and you Missy is such only original talent. Her set, most of the crowd knew her songs and sang them out loud. She has such a beautiful smile too and acknowledges everyone in the band as almost family. A Keyboard player(???). Her backup singer (who was about to have her baby soon Missy told the crowd) both have such good backup harmonies. Guitarist (???) and Bass Player-Zoe Hauptmann and Drummer(???) are very talented musicians. I will add their names when I find out who they are.

From Missy’s website

Australian singer/songwriter Missy Higgins has enjoyed phenomenal success with her irresistible melodies and arrow through the heart lyrics, delivered by a striking voice that clearly means it. After touring the globe with her undeniable songs and unforgettable live performances, Missy’s highly acclaimed The Sound Of White (ARIA Album Of The Year featuring the hits Scar, Ten Days, and The Special Two), On A Clear Night (featuring North American top 20 airplay hit Where I Stood plus Australian #1 single Steer) and The Ol Razzle Dazzle (featuring Everyone’s Waiting and Hello Hello) have sold over two million copies globally. Missy appeared twice on the cover of Australiaís Rolling Stone magazine. She is a five-time chart topper and nine-time ARIA Award winner (Australiaís Grammys). After seven years of touring and recording, Missy quietly took a break from music for several years from 2009 to pursue other interests including a course in Indigenous Studies, as well as making her acting debut in the Australian film Bran Nue Dae.

I remember the early days of his career and eventually Powderfinger were household names and on TV a lot. A mate of mine. Nigel and I played Powderfinger songs in the jams we had at his house. When He played These Days on Keyboard with his band all standing at the one mic singing harmonies, that was a highlight of the day (I will add the bands names when I find out who they all were), it made you think what a great song this really was and what a great band Powderfinder were. Sunsets was another song they played which I always thought was a great song. I am so glad I had a chance to see him perform and sing, play guitar, and Keyboards. Brought back memories from that era and his band. Such a talented Musician.

Powderfinger were an Australian rock band formed in Brisbane in 1989. From 1992 until their break-up in 2010, the line-up consisted of vocalist Bernard Fanning, guitarists Darren Middleton and Ian Haug, bass guitarist John Collins and drummer Jon Coghill. The group’s third studio album Internationalist peaked at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in September 1998. They followed with four more number-one studio albums in a row: Odyssey Number Five (September 2000), Vulture Street (July 2003), Dream Days at the Hotel Existence (June 2007) and Golden Rule (November 2009). Their top-ten hit singles are “My Happiness” (2000), “(Baby I’ve Got You) On My Mind” (2003) and “Lost and Running” (2007). Powderfinger earned a total of eighteen ARIA Awards,

I have been wanting to film/photograph Paul for a long time. As with most Australian artists, I grew up watching and listening to Paul on TV and the Radio. Live though, Paul and his Band were just brilliant. The crowd obviously knew every song and cheered through each song. Paul has that voice that reminds you of the old Australian bush songs and he sings and plays guitar with a passion that delves deep into everyday life. Makes me wonder why I haven’t seen him perform before. I Missed out on that great live performance over the decades. I also hope to one-day Film/Photograph him.

From Paul’s website

Paul Kelly’s songs dig deep into Australia: how it feels, looks, tastes, sounds. As a young man, he left university and traveled the country, soaking it up. In the 40 years since releasing his first album, Australia and its people have been his special subject. Paul Kellyís songs dig deep into Australia: how it feels, looks, tastes, sounds. From St Kilda to Kings Cross, Adelaide, Leaps and Bounds, Incident on South Dowling, Maralinga (Rainy Land), Randwick Bells, Sydney from a 747. There the bus ride through the cane in To Her Door. A song about our greatest cricketer, Bradman. The Ballad of Queenie and Rover, about Aboriginal artists Queenie McKenzie and Rover Thomas. And Deeper Water is not just about the waves of childhood memory but the joys and sorrows of life itself. How to Make Gravy, a message from a prisoner who can’t be home for Christmas, released in 1996, is now recognised as an Australian classic. And From Little Things Big Things Grow, about the 1966 strike by Aboriginal stockmen on Wave Hill Station in the Northern Territory, co-written with Kev Carmody, has taught more Australians about the history of the battle for land rights than newspaper headlines ever could.

By Alex Gallagher

The Red Hot Summer touring festival will return in 2023, with a slew of shows across the country between January and April. Headlining the series will be national treasure Paul Kelly , who shares the bill with former Powderfinger leader  Bernard Fanning , Missy Higgins , Hunters & Collectors ‘ Mark Seymour, Vika & Linda and a collaborative set from Ian Moss and Troy Cassar-Daley .

The run of dates will begin on Saturday, 14th January 2023 at Mornington Racecourse and will continue over the following weekends until it wraps up at Sandstone Point Hotel, QLD on 29th April. In between, there’ll be shows in Batemans Bay, Port Macquarie, Launceston, Hobart, Ballarat, Baulkham Hills, Wodonga, Toowoomba and more. Tickets will go on sale this Thursday, 1st September at 9am AEST – all through Ticketmaster .

Lineup and Dates Revealed for Next Year’s Red Hot Summer Tour

I'm very excited to announce that I'll be heading around the country in 2023 for the Red Hot Summer Tour, with an amaaaazing bunch of artists. Tix on-sale Thurs 1 Sept @ 9am (local time) ? https://t.co/n0wSWHdwTf Can’t wait to see you all there ? ❤️??? pic.twitter.com/72dIauCEEB — Missy Higgins (@missyhiggins) August 28, 2022

In an accompanying statement, Kelly said “the last two years have brought home how precious live music is to us and to those who come.” Kelly said that he and his band intend to “bring it, give our all and play each show as if it’s our last, because you never know what’s around the corner.”

Fanning expressed his eagerness to “get back on the road to do some ‘proper’ touring” following “almost three years of dribs and drabs and disruption”. He noted that he’d be playing many of the towns on the run for the first time ever and said he “can’t wait to get out there and play stuff from right across my career.”

Higgins also emphasised her excitement to get on the road again. “The past few years have shown us that we can’t take anything for granted and being able to tour again will be very special, it’s what I love to do most,” she said. “I’m also really looking forward to sharing the stage with such incredible Aussie artists.”

Red Hot Summer For Bella Vista Farm Has Been Postponed To October

by Paul Cashmere on April 7, 2022

in News , Noise Pro

The Red Hot Summer tour, due for Sydney’s Bella Vista Farm this weekend, has been postponed until October.

This Red Hot Summer event is with Hunters & Collectors, James Reyne, The Living End, The Angels, Baby Animals, Killing Heidi and Boom Crash Opera.

Punter safety is top priority for promoter Duane McDonald. “Due to severe weather impacting the site and our inability to safely execute the event with the current and forecast rainfall, we have made the decision to reschedule the event,” he says. “It will now be on a Saturday. We thank everyone involved for being so flexible to reschedule their calendars to be part of this show. Everyone’s safety is paramount and we look forward to bringing the RED HOT SUMMER TOUR to Bella Vista Farm in October.”

Ticket holders will be contacted by Ticketmaster. Rescheduled date Saturday 15th October 2022 Bella Vista Farm, BAULKHAM HILLS NSW www.ticketmaster.com.au

There are no weather issues in South Australia. The Saturday show on 9 April for Mannun in South Australia is going ahead as planned.

Red Hot Summer also has two sold out Queensland events coming up on 23 April on the Gold Coast and 30 April for Bribie Island.

There is also the Icehouse, James Reyne, Baby Animals, Vanessa Amorosi and Christine Anu Red Hot Summer events 7 and 8 May for Toowoomba and Jacobs Well.

Red Hot Summer Tour is coming to Lake Macquarie

by Newcastle Live 15 September 2024, 7:01 pm

For the first time in its history, the Red Hot Summer Tour will bring the party to Speers Point Park in Lake Macquarie .

The much-loved festival will bring an epic lineup of legendary Australian rock bands to Lake Mac in February 2025. And when we say epic… We mean it.

Icehouse will headline the bill with Noiseworks, Wolfmother, Eskimo Joe, Baby Animals, Killing Heidi , and Bachelor Girl all expected to make waves at the lakeside venue.

Fronted by Iva Davies , Icehouse has a 45-year legacy that includes 28 platinum albums and over 30 top 40 singles. They are the soundtrack to a Red Hot Summer, so we defy anyone at the gig not to have a tear in the eye when they hit the first chorus of Great Southern Land .

Jon Stevens and Noiseworks have become synonymous with great Aussie festival lineups since reforming and are expected to deliver one hell of an evening set with absolute anthems like No Lies and Take Me Back .

Andrew Stockdale will also be planning to lift the roof off the open-air festival with a set of Wolfmother hits. He’ll have a tough act to follow with the Baby Animals hard-hitting rock still ringing out across the lake.

Eskimo Joe will round out the lineup with Killing Heidi, and Bachelor Girl, all of whom have made their mark on the Australian music scene over the years.

The 2025 Red Hot Summer Tour will take over Speers Point Park on Saturday 15 February. An ANZ Visa cardholders pre-sale for the show kicks off on Monday 16 September and Ticketmaster members can grab a spot from 9am on Thursday 19th September before the offical sale starts at 10 am.
