About Baiyoke Tower II

Rising from the Pratunam area of Bangkok, Baiyoke Tower II is Thailand’s first supertall building and Bangkok’s tallest building for 19 years until the completion of MahaNakhon in 2016. It was developed through the Baiyoke Group of Hotels following upon their success with Baiyoke Tower I , located one block to south and completed in 1987. The first Baiyoke Tower was the tallest building to rise in what was at the time, primarily a garment district full of low-rise buildings aligned to narrow streets doubling as open-air markets. The second Baiyoke Tower from the onset was to be even larger and was designed to not only be the tallest building in Thailand, but also the tallest hotel and tallest reinforced concrete building in the world. Initial planning begins soon after the completion of the first tower and construction then began in 1990. The design was inspired by the traditional architecture of Thai temples with triangular rooflines accented with gold color. These features were to be included on what was initially proposed as a red colored exterior, envisioned as a block of red sandstone ascending from the earth skyward while sculpted and hallowed out for human occupancy. While the red color was not included in the finalized design, the tower’s form does adhere to the idea of monolithic block of stone rising from the ground. The exterior is largely made up of a grid of small windows on a tower form which begins as a large podium base and then becomes more slender through a series of terraces and upper level setbacks marked by golden triangles. Economic downturns stalled completion of the tower until 1997, after which it became a redefining feature of the Bangkok skyline. The tower’s first four floors and the basement are dedicated to retail use while parking assumes the role of the next 10 floors of the large podium base. The hotel spaces are then allocated to the tower as it rises above the large base with the podium roof featuring an outdoor deck and swimming pool. The uppermost floors include restaurants, lounges and public observatories on the 77th floor and the 84th floor.

Nous étions allés avec un ami visiter la plus haute tour de Bangkok, la Baiyoke Tower II (sa petite soeur la regarde d’en bas à côté…) histoire de profiter de la vue et du bar en son sommet car une boisson est offerte avec le billet pour la visite.

ce que dit Wikipédia :

Baiyoke Tower II est le plus grand gratte-ciel de Thaïlande surplombant la ville de Bangkok de ses 88 étages ( 343,35 mètres antenne comprise sinon c’est 309m). Sa construction s’acheva en 1997, une antenne a été ajoutée à son sommet en 1999. Le gratte-ciel est situé au cœur de Bangkok, au beau milieu des rues commerçantes et des lieux d’attractions. Il se trouve à quelques minutes de marche de plusieurs centres commerciaux tels que : Central World, Siam Paragorn ou MBK Center entre autres.

A titre de comparaison simple la tour Eiffel fait 321 m donc une hauteur similaire. La montée en son sommet via l’ascenseur est assez spectaculaire, le billet comprend normalement une boisson (cocktail inclus jusqu’à un certain tarif) à déguster dans le bar au dernier étage, belle vue garantie.

2024 PGA Championship Leaderboard: Live day 2 updates for golf leaders at Valhalla

The action at the first round of the 2024 PGA Championship did not disappoint. All eyes were on Xander Schauffele after a steller performance that also cemented his name in the history books by equaling the record for the lowest round in a major championship with a remarkable 62 in the opening round.

Schauffele didn't just settle early in the top spot, he dominated it, finishing Thursday with a 9-under-62.

Now, golfers head into Round 2 hoping to compete well enough to make the cut, and one of those players is Tiger Woods . Woods has been candid about his physical challenges and will look to make up ground on Friday to stay in contention and continue for a potential fifth PGA Championship title throughout the weekend.

The second round start times are now underway after having been delayed from 7:15 a.m. ET to 8:35 a.m. ET after a man was struck and killed by a shuttle bus that brings fans to the golf course.

Scottie Scheffler detained by police before start of Round 2 at Valhalla Golf Club

Friday witnessed a significant event as Scottie Scheffler's journey to the Valhalla Golf Club was abruptly interrupted by the Louisville Metro Police.

As reported by ESPN's Jeff Darlington, Scheffler was navigating around a crash scene when a police officer ordered him to halt. Despite the command, Scheffler persisted, driving a further 10 to 20 yards towards the entrance of the golf course.

The police officer than stopped Scheffler's car as he entered the golf course and the officer then pulled him out of the car and placed him in handcuffs.

Darlington also reported that he was standing at the entrance and witnessed the event. Scheffler asked him, "Can you help?"

"You need to get out of the way," Darlington said the officer told him. "There's nothing you can do. He's going to jail."

By 8:30 a.m. ET, Scheffler was released from police and was heading back into the golf course and began play at 10:08 a.m. ET.

"This morning, I was proceeding as directed by police officers," Scheffler said in a social media statement. "It was a very chaotic situation, understandably so considering the tragic accident that had occurred earlier, and there was a big misunderstanding of what I thought I was being asked to do. I never intended to disregard any of the instructions. I'm hopeful to put this to the side and focus on golf today.

"Of course, all of us involved in the tournament express our deepest sympathies to the family of the man who passed away in the earlier accident this morning. It truly puts everything in perspective."

Xander Schauffele was on a tear on Thursday, dropping a nine-under-par 62 on the field. Thursday’s score nets the golfer his second such card, which ties him for the lowest round in a major along with Rickie Fowler (2023 U.S. Open), Branden Grace (2017 Open Championship) and Schauffele’s previous 62 at the 2023 U.S. Open.

Scottie Scheffler's chaotic week will include PGA Tour chaplain on bag in Round 3 with caddie absent

The world's top-ranked golfer will be without a crucial member of his team on saturday in louisville.

Scottie Scheffler has answered just about every question thrown his way in 2024. Will he putt well enough to start winning tournaments? Yes. Will he claim another major championship? Yes. Will he play and contend the week following his Masters triumph? Yes. Will he be able to balance his personal and professional life with a new child on the way? Yes.

This week at the 2024 PGA Championship, he was thrown two more. How will he compete after being arrested and released following a chaotic traffic incident ahead of Friday's second round? Will he be able to play as well Saturday with his usual caddie missing from his bag for 18 holes?

Scheffler revealed Tuesday that his bag man since late 2021, Ted Scott, will not be lugging his sticks around the par 71 Valhalla Golf Club on Saturday as Scott will instead be attending his daughter's high school graduation. Scott will fly out of Louisville on Friday evening after the second round,  celebrate his daughter's achievement Saturday and return at some point that evening to resume his duties for the final round Sunday.

"That's something we talked about from the beginning of our relationship was family always comes first, and it's the same thing for me as it is for my caddie," Scheffler explained. "It was a pretty easy decision. He told me at the beginning of this year that was the date that it was, so I got a backup caddie lined up. One of my buddies is going to carry the bag on Saturday, and then Ted will be back for Sunday's round."

In Scott's place, Brad Payne will assume the role as Scheffler's right-hand man for the third round. Payne currently serves as a PGA Tour chaplain after having played collegiate golf at Pepperdine University. 

"It's one of my older friends who travels week to week out here," Scheffler said. "He's the Tour chaplain. His name is Brad, and he's caddying for me on Saturday. I trust him to rake a bunker more than my buddies."

UPDATE: At 7:40 a.m. ET, PGA Championship officials announced that the delayed second round would begin at 8:35 a.m. ET, following a “serious accident” early Friday morning near Valhalla. All tee times will be delayed 1 hour and 20 minutes. Tee times at the bottom of this post have been updated to reflect that change.

After one round at the second major of the year, Xander Schauffele stands on top of the heap at Valhalla. For the second time in his career, the World No. 3 fired a major-championship 62, moving him to nine under and giving him a three-shot lead.

Tony Finau , Sahith Theegala and Mark Hubbard are tied for second at six under, while Rory McIlroy and Collin Morikawa are among a group of seven players one shot further back.

World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and defending champion Brooks Koepka shot matching four-under 67s to make for a truly star-studded leaderboard heading into Round 2.
