The Kondaveedu Fort is located 25.7 km away from Guntur in a village called Chilakaluripet. Constructed by Prolaya Verma Reddy, it was used as the capital by the Reddy Dynasty between 1328 – 1482, which makes it pretty ancient. The beautiful and detailed architecture, rich history, lush greenery and fresh ambience are totally worth a visit.

Tip: Driving to this location on one’s own vehicle is most convenient via NH5; after reaching Chilakaluripet turn towards Boyapalem-Phirangipuram Road. 

Must do: Apart from the main fort, there are two other forts nearby which are mostly in ruins, but by asking the locals around, you’ll easily get directions to them.

• Best time to visit : Vijayawada has a moderate climate so you can visit the city at anytime. However, we suggest that you avoid going during the monsoons which last from June to September.
• Nearest railway station : The Vijayawada Junction Station is where you need to get down if you’re visiting the city by train.
• Nearest airport : Vijayawada has its own airport, the Vijayawada International Airport. Flights to other Indian cities as well as international destinations leave and arrive here daily.

Constructed in 1855, the Prakasam Barrage is the reason for the spread of agriculture across the Krishna Delta. Stretching over a kilometre across the Krishna River, it also connects the Krishna district to the Guntur district.

One of the first dams built in South India, it continues to provide the bulk of the water used in irrigation in the region. A particularly marvellous site at night, when it’s lit up.

2. Undavalli Caves

One of the most famous caves in Andhra Pradesh, the Undavalli Caves are of historic importance and are rooted deep in Andhra’s history. The caves are home to an impressive temple that is carved out of rock. There are sculptures of Vaishnava deities on the walls of the temple.

The highlight at the cave is a 5-metre-long statue of Lord Buddha that has been carved out of stone. You can get an amazing panoramic view of the hills nearby from the caves. Catch state-run buses from the Vijayawada bus stand to get to the caves.

An important place of worship for Vijayawada’s Muslims, the Hazratbal Mosque is a beautiful white structure that stands in the city centre where hundreds of visitors and devotees gather. The best time to visit the mosque is when they display a holy relic of Prophet Muhammad.

This usually happens in December. On Fridays, the mosque can get crowded, so avoid going if you aren’t comfortable being around a lot of people. Avoid taking photographs and maintain silence inside the mosque.

Perched atop a mountain, the Kanaka Durga Temple is the second largest temple in Andhra Pradesh. According to legend, the Kanaka Durga Temple is the place where Lord Arjuna obtained the Pasupatha. A grand example of Indian architectural aesthetic, thousands of visitors pay their respects at this mandir every day.

The best time to visit is during the Durga Puja celebrations. Special pujas and cultural programs are held here during the festival. There are dedicated temple buses that take tourists to the heritage site from the Vijayawada bus stand.

6. Gunadala Matha Church

A place considered sacred by Christians, this is where Mother Mary is said to have appeared before the locals. The Gunadala Matha feast is celebrated in February each year. Inside the church there are many statues and religious imagery relating to the Catholic faith: Jesus Christ, Mother Mary, and the Holy Family.

Its peaceful atmosphere makes it a pleasure to sit down among the calm and soothing environment. During festivals like Christmas, the church is beautifully decorated and lit up. Prayers are held at the church every day and special ceremonies are performed on important dates such as Good Friday.

7. Mangalagiri Hill

The Mangalagiri Hill is home to the Sri Panakala Narasimha Swamy Temple and the Lakshmi Narasimha Temple. Both the temples were built by Vishnukundina kings. A visit here is a must for those who are religious or for those who love ancient Indian architecture.

There is also a famous Jain temple on the hill called Hinkar Thirtha which attracts followers from around the world. Take a private cab from Vijayawada to reach the hill. Interstate buses are available too.

8. Subramanya Swamy Temple

Located on a small hill, the Subramanya Swamy Temple overlooks the Krishna river and the city of Vijayawada. From the balcony of the temple, you’ll get a splendid view of the river. The temple comes to life during the Devasena Kalyanotsavam.

The temple is closed after 6 pm. However, on festival days, it is open until much later in the evening. Photography is allowed in the temple complex; however, refrain from clicking pictures inside the temple when prayers are being said.

9. kondapalli fort.

Kondapalli Fort

Locals call the fort Kondapalli Quilla. It is situated in between two hills and is a popular tourist attraction. Notable sites at the Kondapalli Quilla are the Dargha Darwaza (carved from a single granite block) and the excellent carvings on the walls of the fort.

There’s also a lovely garden here where tourists relax after trekking up to see the fort and the panoramic views of the neighbouring hills. Don’t forget to check out the beautiful Golconda Darwaza that’s located at the back of the fort.

Formerly called the Viceroy Jubilee Museum, the Bapu Museum houses tools, copper plates, stone carvings, and many more artifacts that were excavated from historic sites in the region. There is also a light house nearby which can be visited. There are several accommodation facilities near Vodarevu beach. The Sip and Dip Cottages, situated on the Vodarevu Beach Road is equipped with all basic amenities. Also, the nearby Jolley Home Resort and Ramapuram Beach Resort are also good options. Alternately, there are several accommodation options available in Chirala town. Vodarevu is connected by bus and autos from Chirala town. Chirala has very good train and bus connectivity with major towns in Andhra Pradesh.

26. Kolleru Lake & Sanctuary

At a distance of 95 Kms from Vijayawada & 349 Kms from Hyderabad, Kolleru Lake is a large freshwater lake spread over an area of 300 Sq. Miles between Krishna and Godavari delta. It is home to migratory birds between October and March every year. Now declared as Bird Sanctuary, the lake is a great picnic spot and a paradise for birdwatchers. The lake was an important habitat for an estimated 20 million resident and migratory birds. The visitors include Open Bill Storks, Painted Storks, Glossy Ibises, White Ibises, Teals, Pintails, Shovellers, Red-Crested Pochards, Blackwinged Stilts, Avocets, Common Redshanks, Wigeons, Gadwalls and Cormorants, etc. The lake is approachable from all four sides of the lake by road: Atapaka - 2.5 Kms from Kaikaluru & 25 Kms from Eluru, Murthiraju Tank - 8 kms from Nidamarru & 45 Kms from Eluru, Gudivakalanka - 15 kms from Eluru. Watchtowers are available at these places for bird watching. Eluru is connected by frequent buses from Vijayawada.

At a distance of 83 Kms from Vijayawada, 11 Kms from Machilipatnam & 351 Kms from Hyderabad, the Manginapudi Beach is scenic beach on Bay of Bengal. Nallamala Jungle Camp at Bairluty is a community-based eco-tourism initiative which was started in 2017. The main aim of the camp is to elicit local support for wildlife, to impart conservation education to the visitors and to empower the local communities improving their livelihoods. Spreads over an area of 10 acres, Nallamala Jungle Camp has four semi-permanent cottages, six semi-permanent tented accommodation cottages, reception, a library and dormitory, built at a cost of Rs. 2.17 crore. 29. Mangalagiri - Lakshmi Narasimha Temple

At a distance of 12 Kms from Vijayawada Railway Station & 287 Kms from Hyderabad, Mangalagiri in Guntur district is famous for Panakala Narasimha Swamy Temple on the hill and Laxmi Narasimha Swamy Temple at foot of the hill. Panakala Narasimha Swamy Temple - The idol is said to be Swambhu. The idol is covered by metal face and only the mouth is visible & it's widely opened. The God takes jaggery water (Panakam) as offering. The water is poured into the mouth, only half of the water is consumed and remaining is thrown out. Panakala Swamy temple is opened only till 3 PM. Laxmi Narasimha Swamy Temple ' Yudhishtira, the eldest of the pandavas is said to be the founder of the chief image of this temple and the deity here is called Sri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. The temple has a very tall 153 feet tower with beautiful sculpture which has 11 stairs. It was constructed by Raja Vasireddi Venkatadri Naidu, during the years 1807-09. At a distance of 4 km from Rampachodavaram village and 29 km from Maredumilli, Rampa Waterfalls is a stunning waterfall in East Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh. It is one of the popular places to visit in Maredumilli and among the best waterfalls in Andhra. Also known as Rampachodavaram Falls, the waterfall cascades down from a height of about 50 feet. Situated near Rampachodavaram village, this is the only coastal fall in Andhra Pradesh. One can take a dip in this falls amidst thick jungle is very refreshing. Water remains throughout the year in this waterfall and the downstream. The waterfall is located in a dense jungle and can be accessed by jeeps. The drive through the dense jungle is an exhilarating experience. The road and the area up to the waterfall are maintained by local villagers. There is a small trek to reach the waterfall from the entrance. While climbing the flowing water stream will be at your right and there are several small waterfalls making the small trek more enjoying. It will be a 20 minutes climb to reach the main waterfall. There is an ancient Shiva Temple named Sri Neelakanteswara temple near the Rampachodavaram waterfalls. A dance festival is organized every year on Shivratri day here where famous tribal dance Vela is displayed. During this dance, the costumes used by the dancers are very attractive. 31. Polluru Waterfalls / Mothugudem Falls

At a distance of 7 km from Mothugudem, 36 km from Chinturu, 65 km from Maredumilli and 102 km from Bhadrachalam, Mothugudem waterfalls is a mesmerizing waterfall situated near Polluru village in Chinturu Mandal of Khammam district in Telangana. Also known as Mothugudem Falls, it is one of the popular places to visit near Maredumilli. Locally known as Thadikevagu Falls, the waterfall is nestled in the Lakkavaram forest range of Bhadrachalam. This enchanting waterfall has several streams flowing in three stages. It is brimming with visitors from far and near particularly on weekends. The water is crystal clear and take a bath in this falls is very refreshing. The falls is in full spate and avoid getting into the water during monsoon. One can also go for a trek into the surrounding forest. There is no direct public transportation to reach the falls. Tourists have to make their own arrangements to reach this wonderful destination. One needs to reach Chinturu by bus from Bhadrachalam or Maredumilli and then Mothugudem. There is a mud road till the falls from the entrance. The area has only very basic facilities so if you are visiting better pack some food. There is no accommodation available near the falls. At a distance of 14 km from Nagarjuna Sagar, 176 km from Hyderabad & 177 km from Vijayawada, Ethipothala waterfalls are striking falls on River Chandravanka (a tributary of River Krishna), towards the down flow of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam . This is one of the best tourist attractions to visit near Hyderabad & a popular waterfall around Hyderabad city. It is one of the prime places to visit in Nagarjuna Sagar and also one of the top Tourist places in Telangana . Ethipothala is a famous waterfall formed by the mountain streams which falls from a height of approximately 70 feet into a lagoon. Three streams namely Nakka Vagu, Tummala Vagu and Chandravanka Vagu combine to form this waterfall. The name Ethipothala has been derived from the Sanskrit word 'Etitaposthal' meaning the place for penance. It is believed that saints have performed rigorous penance at this place. Undavalli Caves, Vijayawada Overview

A monolithic example of Indian rock-cut architecture, the Undavalli Caves are located in the city of Guntur, Andhra Pradesh. Carved out of a solid sandstone on a hillside, these caves date back to the 4th to 5th centuries and is a paradise for history lovers. One of the preserved monuments of national importance, this attraction was originally the Jain caves and was later converted into a Hindu temple.

Regarded as one of the earliest examples of Gupta architecture, the Undavalli Caves leave one in amazement and awe because of its marvellous design. From the outside, it looks like rows of cells arranged in different positions which arouse curiosity. There are three levels in the cave. The lower level resembles the Jain abode with many chambers and Thirthankara Sculptures. The second level has as the statue of reclining God whose identity cannot be found out. However, locale believes the statue is of Lord Vishnu. The sculptures of lions and elephants on the walls add to the beauty of the attraction. When you reach the top of the cave, you get a breath-taking view of the lush green surroundings and hills. You can also see the Krishna River flowing behind the caves. Tourists can even take the boat ride on the river enjoying the natural beauty. A perfect blend of architectural marvel and historical significance, you should add Undavalli Caves to your bucket list because it will swoon you with its charm and grandeur.
