We're Vets,

Dr Hendrik Swanepoel was born in South Africa and graduated with honours from Murdoch University in 2012. Dr Swanepoel started his veterinary career in Esperance, working in a mixed animal practice and has extensive experience working in small animal and emergency practice in Perth. He is highly regarded within the veterinary community. 

We provide professional veterinary advice for animals great and small at your door step. Not only will we provide veterinary care but we want to help educate our clients to care for their furry friends. Our motto is 'prevention is better than treatment'. Always feel free to ask a question about your pet.

We provide home euthanasia services to farewell your pet in the comfort of their home. We can make arrangements for your pet after they pass. Prices may vary depending on size of pet and afterlife care.

I graduated from Murdoch University Veterinary School in 2013 and have always worked in clinical settings. This has inspired me to want to create a car-ride free, waiting-room free, low stress environment, where my furry patients get to be seen in the comfort of their homes, at an affordable price.  

Aside from conventional vet medicine, I have always been interested in alternative vet medicine. I believe that combining the best of both Eastern and Western worlds will allow me to provide optimal health care for my patients. I also trust that this will be the direction vet medicine should and will head towards in the future.  

I am a certified  Veterinary Acupuncturist (Chi Institute), having treated and managed different conditions combining conventional medicine with Acupuncture, Electro-acupuncture and Chinese Herbs. This includes arthritis, neurological disease, spinal conditions, and a range of other long standing medical conditions. I am also in the midst of completing my Masters in TCVM (Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine) with Chi Institute, where i will be certified in Veterinary Chinese Herbs, Veterinary Chinese Food Therapy and Veterinary Chinese Tui-Na. VET:    DR ALEX ONG (Not available 2022*) Dr Alex Ong graduated from Murdoch University Veterinary School in 2013 and is a certified Veterinary Acupuncturist (Chi Institute) as well.  Having 5 years of experience working overseas with both the Singapore army and in private practice as a general practitioner, he will now be joining us in 2019. When not driving around, he can be found at home chasing after his three little dogs and two furry kitty cats.

                             ACUPUNCTURE                         

What is Acupuncture? Acupuncture is part of TCM ( Traditional Chinese Medicine ), and has been around for more than 2000 years. It involves insertion of a very fine sterile needle into specific points ( acupuncture points ) along the body’s meridians to clear energy blockages, encourage flow of normal Qi ” life energy” and bring our pets’ body back to a balanced state.  

How does Acupuncture work? Each stimulated point provides several different effects. Research has shown that it works through local and systemic effects, releasing hormones and neuropeptides to provide pain relief , stimulate the nervous system, boost immunity, as well as relaxing the body.  

How many treatments will my pet need? This depends on your pet and their specific condition. Some will require several weekly treatments, while others require a session every few weeks to months. A combination of both is fairly common as well.  

How long is each session? Each session differs and is tailored specifically for your pets’ individual needs. Sessions range from 30 – 60 minutes or more, where the first initial consultation may be slightly longer than subsequent revisits.  

Are there other forms of Acupuncture? Yes. Other than dry-needling, we also offer aqua-puncture ( injection into specific acupuncture points for longer lasting effects ), electro-acupuncture ( low current stimulator attached to dry needles for stronger effect ) and Moxibustion ( needle-free, heated herbal sticks placed over acupuncture points ).  

Is it painful? Some points can be more sensitive than others if it is an “active point” requiring treatment. These points may be slightly uncomfortable during treatment but they make our pets feel much better after.

                                   HOME   EUTHANASIA                                

We understand how difficult it is when it is time to say goodbye. We can make this transition easier by giving your loved ones a peaceful farewell at home where they will feel most comfortable. We can assist you if you want farewells out of the house as well, such as at your pet’s favourite park or beach. On arrival, your pet will receive a sedative to help relax. This sedation is given under the skin like an ordinary vaccination, and takes roughly 10 minutes to relax most patients into a deep sleep. We will then give the final euthanasia injection through a port inserted into a vein (commonly a vein on the front or back legs). This second injection is usually very quick and peaceful. There are a few options for the aftercare of your pet. You can opt for home burials, private cremation (with ashes back) or companion cremation (with no ashes returned).

FLAPPING EARS, WATERY EYES AND ITCHY SKIN BOTHERING YOUR PET?   Let us help your fur babies with all those infections and allergies. We combine a mix of oral medications, topical drops and shampoos to ease the itch. There may be lots of underlying causes for these conditions, ranging from fleas or mites, food allergies, environmental allergy and many more. We can discuss how to help eliminate or manage these problems with you.  

FOR THE OLD CREAKY JOINTS, CHRONIC PAIN AND PALLIATIVE CARE : Allow us to help your pet with old creaky sore joints and chronic pain live a much better quality of life using a combination of anti-inflammatories, pain relief, arthritis injections, acupuncture, chinese herbs and lots of love.

      BLOOD TESTS, LUMP CHECKS, DIAGNOSTICS            MINOR PROCEDURES UNDER SEDATION            

BLOOD TESTS, LUMP CHECK AND OTHER DIAGNOSTICS. In house tests are available on the spot for blood glucose level, urinalysis and skin scraping. All other blood and pathology tests will otherwise be sent to Vetpath laboratories, with an average turnover time of 24 hours. As for x-rays and ultrasound , we can refer them back to your regular vet or bring them to our own preferred clinics south of the river. A mobile veterinary ultrasonographer is also available for scans carried out at home.

MINOR PROCEDURE UNDER SEDATION: We can provide sedation and reversal for your pet for minor procedures such as nail clips, cat grooming, or perhaps you have a fur child that is a little more sensitive and anxious when seeing a vet and may require that little snooze during the visit..…

EMERGENCIES AND REFERRAL SUPPORT : We will get to you when you cant get your pet to the vet, assist in transporting them to your regular vet (small pets only), as well as offering specialist referrals where necessary.

         VACCINES WORMING AND MICROCHIPPING     

​FOR WOOFS: We use triennial core vaccines, as we understand how antibodies from a single shot may last a few years. We do still recommend yearly vaccinations for Canine Cough.Core vaccines and canine cough vaccines together form a C5 vaccination. Titre testing can be carried out for core vaccines where a small amount of blood is drawn and sent to the lab. If your pet has plenty of antibodies, he or she won’t require the core vaccine for that year. We strongly encourage an annual heartworm injection, as your pooch can get infected if bitten by a heartworm- infested mosquito. This injection provides 12 months of protection and can be given at the same time of vaccinations. You can also opt for monthly heartworm prevention in the form of tablets or spot-ons. Puppies usually receive their first vaccination at 6-8 weeks, followed by a booster at 10-12 weeks old. We use an early finishing vaccination, where your fur babies will be ready to socialize in public 10 days after their 10-12 week old booster.  

FOR MEOWS: For outdoor cats, we recommend yearly F5 vaccinations. However, if your cat is purely an indoor only cat, he or she may require a different option. There is an optional vaccine to protect your cat from FIV (Feline AIDS), highly recommended for outdoor cats that may get bite wounds from an infected cat. This vaccine can be given from 2 months of age, or to adults that are tested FIV negative. Kittens usually receive their first vaccination at 6-8 weeks, followed by a booster at 10-12 weeks. Some may need a final booster at 16 weeks of age. They can then safely go outdoors 10 days after their final vaccination.

WORMING For both pups and kittens, wormers are required 2 weekly from 2 weeks of age till 3 months old, then once a month till 6 month old, then 3 monthly after.

MICROCHIPPING Having a microchip is a legal requirement in all pets. This procedure involves inserting the chip (size of a small rice grain) using a needle directed under the skin, between the shoulder blades of your pet. The microchip includes a lifetime registration with the chip company. You can then register your pet with the council using this microchip registration.

Since adopting our 15 month old Misty 6 weeks ago, we were a tad concerned about her ravenous appetite and her constant scratching. She also had a small lump on her lower belly. Dr Tamara is a lovely, caring … Vet with 25years experience, full of great tips and advice, reassuring us that Misty’s lump was from her de-sexing op and at a site where her stitches were – this can take a few months for complete healing with the stitches dissolving under the skin. Her scratching is possibly to an allergic reaction to a particular dry food ingredient, we will switch her over to Hills to alleviate her troublesome itching. And we are purchasing a slow feeder to ensure she is chewing properly. Reducing her food intake, as she’s becoming a little pudding ☺️. Doctor/dogtor Stuart has seen my dogs twice now and both times has been fantastic with them. He’s very gentle and patient with them which I really appreciate. We were so grateful to meet Stephen for our visit with Simba who has cancer and not long to go. We were not sure if we required euthanasia that night as were very upset. Due to be a Sunday and living in rural area the peace of mind was so appreciated

My beautiful boy Wolf, suddenly became acutely ill on a Sunday lunchtime he began to vomit and have diarrhea, due to location of where we live and being a Sunday my local vet was closed and closest emergency vet wanted … me to wait. Having had a negative experience with the hospital, after our cat had been attacked, he became increasingly unwell. Not satisfied with the diagnosis I received I contacted Pawssum. We could not be happier with Pawssum and Tamara the lovely vet! We were very worried about our elderly great dane and needed vet attention on Christmas morning. The emergency vet clinics we called all said it would be at … least a four-hour wait. As our dane was unwell and is a very timid and anxious girl we really had no idea how we were to cope. Then I rang Pawssum who were amazing, sending a fabulous vet to our home just one hour after our call! Tamara thoroughly examined our dane and also our arthritic pug, diagnosed the issues and gave our dane a pain injection, clipped her toenails, and gave us ongoing medication and scripts for both dogs. Excellent and professional sympathetic service

I am most impressed with the service provided by pawssum relating to mobile veterinary service. The team were most helpful and managed to locate a vet, David, to come to the house to attend my very sick cat, Sheba. It … was early at night on a weekend. The vet arrived at the time arranged and examined Sheba thoroughly and then advised me to make an urgent appointment with my regular vet or an animal hospital and request that xrays of the chest, blood tests and an ultrasound be be taken to confirm the diagnosis and have relevant treatment prescribed as Sheba did have health issues. The vet stressed the importance of doing this within the next 24 hours for optimal care. He also advised me on the medication I could continue giving to the cat. I was most impressed with David’s professional assessment of Sheba’s condition, his very gentle but caring attitude and reassuring manner. I did manage to get an appointment with my regular vet who ordered the investigations as David suggested and the diagnosis of the worsening of her heart murmur, bronchitis and general lethargy was confirmed. An ultrasound is organised for Tuesday. I am happy to report that Sheba has picked up somewhat after I followed David’s suggestion to also keep Sheba very warm and to continue her on the medication she was on. Please thank David for me and let him know I am grateful for the care he showed to Sheba and the excellent advice he gave me to ensure ongoing management. In summary, the mobile vet service you provide is of very high standard, professional and sympathetic. I felt Sheba was in good hands during the consultation. My dog passed away overnight so I canceled the vets consultation and just had the dog picked up for cremation which was handled with loving care but unfortunately as a pensioner the prepayment of $998.00 I made before they arrived … on the 14th March they then tried to charge again on my card on the 20th which upset me all over again considering I even couldn’t have his ashes even in a plastic bag unless I paid more. I put a request to be called back on the pawwsum website. Within minutes I had a call and a vet was booked for the same day. Vet was at our house within 3 hrs of the phone call. The … vet was fantastic and gave our dog painkillers and antibiotics to clear up his dental abscess. Our dog was the calmest he has ever been seeing a vet, therefore, she was able to get a good look at him. Almost too easy!

I’d been adopted by a cat for about a month or so but had no idea of history or vaccinations or even gender, so eventually I thought it best to have it all checked out. As a non-driver, Pawssum became … an obvious choice. The price seemed fine and I was hugely impressed that I was able to get an appointment for noon on the same day (I arranged it very early in the AM and it was confirmed once working hours began). Dr Bahaa was even a bit early which was good, and after some trepidation on the cat’s behalf, we managed to find out she was a she, and already microchipped, so he got in touch with Tiff the cat’s actual owner. The end result – it was a nearby neighbour. We had a chat, and the neighbour is very happy for Tiff to keep visiting here, and now if Tiff doesn’t come home (to the neighbour’s house or mine) we know she’s probably at the other place instead! Which is less worry for all concerned. Also, the cat already has a vet so I now know I don’t need to be the one arranging that. So I’m getting all the cuddles and company without the need to worry about that other side of it. Win / win. But it was Dr Bahaa and Pawssum that got it to that point, and I’m grateful for the efficiency of it all. Read more “Almost too easy!”

Stress-free cat consult for Shelley

Old cat, sick and hiding in the garden. Vet visit = stress. Search online for vet home visits, found Pawssum. Dr Duncan arrived and fixed old cat! So much easier than a vet visit. I wrote a proper review and … it vanished. I can’t repeat it but basically, instead of dragging my sick old cat out of his hidey hole and stuffing him, struggling, into his carrier then driving him to the vet with all the street noise, and vet noise and smells, I only had to drag him out of his hidey hole and hold him quietly on my lap in his own lounge room. Dr Duncan checked him, took blood for tests (and called me later that day with results), and gave Shelley an anti-nausea shot and subcutaneous hydration. A full service, pretty much. Dr Duncan was gentle and thorough with Shelley, and communicative and reassuring with me. I can’t recommend Pawssum, and Dr Duncan, more highly. Convenient and less stress

My cat like most animals hates the carrier. So when I discovered a hotspot on him I just couldn’t deal with that drama. I called Pawssum and they had a vet out with it a hour or so. They were … absolutely wonderful, Houdini liked them and I didn’t have to deal with a car trip from hell. They checked him out supplied some tablets and cream. First time I’ve used this service. I had difficulty getting in to see my usual vet and didn’t want to drag all 3 dogs out when I had quite a sick dog (giant breed) dog to manage. I was personally … referred to this service by a friend and was not let down. Vet arrived only a couple of minutes late (politely apologised) – who can control traffic. Was gentle and calm with my large dog. Took a great history and the medications prescribed so far have really helped. Will be definitely booking her next appointment with Dr. Estafanos. Since adopting our 15 month old Misty 6 weeks ago, we were a tad concerned … about her ravenous appetite and her constant scratching. She also had a small lump on her lower belly. Dr Tamara is a lovely, caring Vet with 25years experience, full of great tips and advice, reassuring us that Misty’s lump was from her de-sexing op and at a site where her stitches were – this can take a few months for complete healing with the stitches dissolving under the skin. Her scratching is possibly to an allergic reaction to a particular dry food ingredient, we will switch her over to Hills to alleviate her troublesome itching. And we are purchasing a slow feeder to ensure she is chewing properly. Reducing her food intake, as she’s becoming a little pudding ☺️. We could not be happier with Pawssum and Tamara the lovely vet! We were very … worried about our elderly great dane and needed vet attention on Christmas morning. The emergency vet clinics we called all said it would be at least a four-hour wait. As our dane was unwell and is a very timid and anxious girl we really had no idea how we were to cope. I am most impressed with the service provided by pawssum relating to mobile veterinary service. … The team were most helpful and managed to locate a vet, David, to come to the house to attend my very sick cat, Sheba. It was early at night on a weekend. The vet arrived at the time arranged and examined Sheba thoroughly and then advised me to make an urgent appointment with my regular vet or an animal hospital and request that xrays of the chest, blood tests and an ultrasound be be taken to confirm the diagnosis and have relevant treatment prescribed as Sheba did have health issues. The vet stressed the importance of doing this within the next 24 hours for optimal care. He also advised me on the medication I could continue giving to the cat. I was most impressed with David’s professional assessment of Sheba’s condition, his very gentle but caring attitude and reassuring manner. I did manage to get an appointment with my regular vet who ordered the investigations as David suggested and the diagnosis of the worsening of her heart murmur, bronchitis and general lethargy was confirmed. An ultrasound is organised for Tuesday. I am happy to report that Sheba has picked up somewhat after I followed David’s suggestion to also keep Sheba very warm and to continue her on the medication she was on. Please thank David for me and let him know I am grateful for the care he showed to Sheba and the excellent advice he gave me to ensure ongoing management. In summary, the mobile vet service you provide is of very high standard, professional and sympathetic. I felt Sheba was in good hands during the consultation. I don’t know what her history was before she came to me except that she lived with my friend’s niece who bought her from The Lost Dogs Home. She has been with me for five and half years. I’d been adopted by a cat for about a month or so but had no … idea of history or vaccinations or even gender, so eventually I thought it best to have it all checked out. As a non-driver, Pawssum became an obvious choice. The price seemed fine and I was hugely impressed that I was able to get an appointment for noon on the same day (I arranged it very early in the AM and it was confirmed once working hours began). Dr Bahaa was even a bit early which was good, and after some trepidation on the cat’s behalf, we managed to find out she was a she, and already microchipped, so he got in touch with Tiff the cat’s actual owner. The end result – it was a nearby neighbour. We had a chat, and the neighbour is very happy for Tiff to keep visiting here, and now if Tiff doesn’t come home (to the neighbour’s house or mine) we know she’s probably at the other place instead! Which is less worry for all concerned. Also, the cat already has a vet so I now know I don’t need to be the one arranging that. So I’m getting all the cuddles and company without the need to worry about that other side of it. Win / win. Old cat, sick and hiding in the garden. Vet visit = stress. Search online for … vet home visits, found Pawssum. Dr Duncan arrived and fixed old cat! So much easier than a vet visit. I wrote a proper review and it vanished. I can’t repeat it but basically, instead of dragging my sick old cat out of his hidey hole and stuffing him, struggling, into his carrier then driving him to the vet with all the street noise, and vet noise and smells, I only had to drag him out of his hidey hole and hold him quietly on my lap in his own lounge room. Dr Duncan checked him, took blood for tests (and called me later that day with results), and gave Shelley an anti-nausea shot and subcutaneous hydration. A full service, pretty much. Dr Duncan was gentle and thorough with Shelley, and communicative and reassuring with me. I can’t recommend Pawssum, and Dr Duncan, more highly. Vietnam veterans on Midwest Honor Flight 18 visit the war’s memorial wall

SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The 83 of the 84 veterans, who made the trip, served in the Vietnam War, and many saw the memorial for the first time on this year’s Midwest Honor Flight trip.

Kenneth Becker from Le Mars, Iowa, served in the Marines, and the Navy. He went to the wall to rub the name of one of his friends, who died in the war, onto a piece of paper, and to this day, Becker carries a piece of that comrade with him.

“They always said don’t make friends when you’re on your way to a war, and you never listen to that,” said Becker. “I was able to get his bracelet, and I wear this quite often when I go to events. As a member of the Legion Riders in Le Mars I always managed to put my bracelet on, and me and Charlie go for a ride.”

Kenneth Becker and Wayne Thieman spent their day looking for some old friends. Becker, a veteran of the Marines and Navy, rubbed the name Charles F. Bigham on a piece of paper. He already had one but returned for another.

“I met him in boot camp. We went through boot camp and went through the training with First Armored. While we were going over to Vietnam, we’d spend the evenings just talking about back home, the girls we knew, and what we were going to do when we got home,” said Becker.

Bigham was killed in the line of duty in September of 1967 with less than two months left in his tour of duty.

Wayne Thieman, on his fifth trip to the wall, was finally able to rub the names of two men he knew.

“You know, you think about them, and now I’ve got them. I’ve been wanting to get him for a while, just haven’t been able to do it. That’s one thing I wanted was those two, just to remember them. When I go through my photo album they’re there and I’ll remember what they did, how they were,” said Thieman.

Many of the veterans that spoke with KTIV described their first visits to the wall as emotional, some said it was cathartic.

“At first it was very emotional. First time I came, I couldn’t go close to it. I stayed away. And it it took a lot of them a long time to get here just because of that reason. Because of the memories and he does bring up old wounds, old memories,” said Thieman.

Sonia and John were awesome. THey came to my house and helped my very elderly dog pass over to doggie heaven. Not stressful or fearful for him. I highly recommend doing this in your own home. They were very kind and very professional and they took care of EVERYTHING. I have told everyone I know with pets about them. They came back the following week and cleaned my other dogs teeth and did her nails..very unstressful for all of us. Again I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

They were superb with my dog. She needed staples. Dr Amador and John came the same day I called and did the staples and a wellness check. A couple of prescriptions. All for a FRACTION of what VCA or local vet would have cost. They came 2 more times. Had to do more staples. Since my dog licked some off. Both of those visits were no charge. They saved me well over a thousand dollars. Super with the dogs very friendly. I highly recommend them to any pet owner. We are so very lucky to have them.

We were very impressed with Dr. Amador. Our initial visit at our home was for well pet exams and vaccines. My 13 year old cat decided he was going to be an angry tiger with teeth and claws out, but both Dr. Amador and John were amazingly cool and collected. My Akita loved them both. What a wonderful resource they are for our Ridge. We highly recommend them, prices were extremely reasonable, and as a former veterinary practice manager with over 20 years experience, I know a caring, thorough veterinarian when I meet one. I am very happy to have Vilotti Veterinary practice treating my babies.

Hello, I don't recall having a negative conversation with anyone, you must have the wrong business. We are happy to help anyone and even give free advice. When did you call? Your profile says you live in San Francisco so you must be mistaken. And I'm not sure why you say the website hours don't match Google because they both say 10am-7pm Mon- Saturday. We actually work longer hours than what's posted. Not sure what your problem is. Maybe you work for a competitor and are just making stuff up to be nasty.
