The pristine Serengeti National Park nestles in the centre of northern Tanzania . Encompassing vast plains of savannah, rolling hills, and a network of rivers; the Serengeti offers sanctuary to an abundance of wildlife, affording incredible safari opportunities all year round. The Serengeti is renowned for the greatest wildlife spectacle on earth - the annual migration when over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with a number of zebra and gazelle, move in a circular pattern between Tanzania and Kenya in search of new pastures brought to life by the rain. Crossing the Grumeti River is part of their journey and is a nail-biting spectacle as herds of distressed wildebeest and zebra attempt to cross the crocodile-infested waters. The Serengeti is a great place to visit during the calving season when gorgeous newborn babies can be seen, as well as a large number of big cats.

As the home of Africa's richest resident population of wildlife, the Serengeti National Park offers exceptional game viewing opportunities throughout the year. The time you decide to go will largely depend on what you wish to see. The majority of visitors are eager to witness the incredible spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration but planning for this can be challenging as the timing of the migration can vary from one year to the next and the migration takes a full year to complete a single cycle. This means that the migration can be seen throughout the year but because the wildebeest travel across vast expanses of land, certain events in the cycle can only be seen in specific areas of the park during specific time periods. The mass wildebeest calving period, for example, occurs between January and March in the southernmost reaches of the park, while the dramatic river crossings occur between July and August in the west.

The best time for general wildlife watching is considered to be during the months of June and July . During this time the animals are easy to find as they tend to congregate around the water sources and the vegetation is typically less dense than usual. The weather is also ideal at this time as there is usually little to no rainfall. Visitors should note that, while days are usually relatively warm during this time period, morning and evenings can get chilly, so remember to pack some warm clothing for your early morning game drives.

What people love about serengeti national park tours.

I really love my Serengeti trip! The workers were awesome, Jacob, Evy, and Eric rocked it! They were always ready for anything. The food was always delicious and we never went hungry. People said they liked a certain thing and she made sure to include that. Jacob was helpful with setting up and always told us what to expect and was full of knowledge. Eric was an awesome driver.

The experience started off terribly for two reasons. The first being that tour Radar sent an email raising the price even though we clicked on their limited time special offer for the private tour. We refused to pay more and told them to add us to a group instead. We ended up on a private tour thankfully. Be very careful booking with tour Radar. The second negative was upon exiting the airport in Kilimanjaro a sign with our names was nowhere to be found. Everyone else had their names clearly posted and were happily off with their tour companies. The world adventure representative had our names hidden and refused to show it to us unless we confirmed that we were there to do the safari with them. Very suspicious behavior. For this reason I would absolutely not recommend them to anyone. The next day we met our guide (Mohammed/moody). What an amazing experience it was doing a 6 day safari with him. He went out of his way to ensure that we saw everything possible and that we were totally comfortable at every hotel and lodge. We left on time every morning and spent the entire day looking for every animal that exists in Tanzania. We saw Africa's big 5 and there were lions everywhere, elephants, zebras, giraffes, hippos and everything else were plentiful and you could literally reach out and touch them. If you book with world adventure, request Moody as your guide
