Paul Weller Shares New Song 'Nothing' Ahead of Upcoming Album '66'

Paul Weller is releasing his 17th solo album 66 on May 24, the day before his 66th birthday.

Today, the legendary former frontman of the Jam and the Style Council has given us another taste of the record by sharing the languid, jazzy new track "Nothing."

Weller recorded 66 at his own Black Barn Studio, and the LP features contributions from friends and collaborators including Noel Gallagher , Primal Scream ’s Bobby Gillespie, Madness ’ Suggs , Richard Hawley, the Blow Monkeys’ Dr Robert, Le SuperHomard’s Christophe Vaillant, and Erland Cooper, plus string arrangements by Hannah Peel.

The album's lead single "Soul Wandering," co-written with Gillespie, was previously shared alongside the album announcement back in February.

Weller has a busy tour schedule lined up for this summer and autumn.

After he wraps up his current U.K. tour this summer, he'll head over across the pond in September for his first North American tour in seven years .

Then he'll head back for another big headlining tour of the U.K. a month later with support from singer-songwriter Liam Bailey.

New studio album.

Paul Weller will release a new studio album in May called, simply, 66 .

The 12 songs on 66 were worked up in Weller’s Black Barn studio over the course of three years with various guest musicians, including Dr Robert, Richard Hawley, Steve Brooks and Max Beesley

There are lyrical contributions from Suggs, Noel Gallagher and Bobby Gillespie (‘Ship Of Fools’, ‘Jumble Queen’ and ‘Soul Wondering’ respectively) and Weller shares production duties on a few tracks with Christophe Vaillant, White Label and Charles Rees. String arrangements are by Hannah Peel.

You can preview ‘Soul Wandering’, above, although apparently “the first proper single” will be ‘Rise Up Singing’ which will be made available on 5 April.

As well as vinyl and CD there’s a 2CD set packaged in deluxe hardcover book format, with four extra tracks on the second disc. As you’d expect there’s various coloured vinyl editions which all come with a 12-page booklet and foldout poster.

66 will be released on 24 May 2024, via Polydor.

Paul Weller announces new album ’66’ with introspective single ‘Soul Wandering’

The new LP features collaborations from Suggs, Bobby Gillespie and Noel Gallagher

Paul Weller has shared details of an upcoming album, titled ‘66’. Check out the new single ‘Soul Wandering’ below.

Announced today (February 23), the album marks the 17th solo album from the former frontman of The Jam and his 28th studio LP in total since launching his career back in 1977.

As suggested in the title, the LP comes in light of his upcoming 66th trip around the sun, and is set to be released on May 24th – the day before his 66th birthday.

With the album, Weller is set to take a more reflective approach than ever before, looking inward at his decisions and shedding light on the way that his creativity interacts with the wider world. It is also set to see him continue to push artistic boundaries in his music, as well as hold on to his roots.

The first teaser of the upcoming LP has also been shared by Weller in the form of the single ‘Soul Wandering’.

With an unmistakable Bowie -feel throughout, the track comes with a chunky, percussive groove and introspective lyrics that see Weller ponder his place in the universe. “ Soul wandering/ Still searching/ And I want to believe/ In something greater than me/ And I’m humbled by the majesty of the sea/ And the stars and your love, ” he sings.

According to a press release, ‘66’ will see the musician delve into topics including “faith, changing circumstances and the fractured realities of life in this turbulent age”, but at its core, boast a message of positivity and wisdom.

Across the 12 songs, a number of collaborations have also been lined up, including Madness frontman Suggs , Bobby Gillespie and Noel Gallagher . Gillespie features on the track above, while Suggs stars on one called ‘Ship Of Fools’ and Gallagher on ‘Jumble Queen’.

Elsewhere, there are two collaborations with French producer and recording artist Christophe Vaillant (Le Superhomard), while acclaimed Brooklyn trio Say She She add vocals to ‘In Full Flight’. Other guest stars appearing throughout the album include old friends including Dr Robert, Richard Hawley , Steve Brooks and Max Beesley.

Today’s announcements come ahead of Weller and his band’s tour dates this Spring – all held in the UK.

These kick off on April 2 with a slot at Shepherds Bush Empire in London, and they see him play a further 14 shows across that month, including stops in Leicester, Bristol, Sheffield, York and Lincoln. The tour will wrap up on April 21 with a gig at the Corn Exchange in Cambridge. Visit here for a full list of dates and any remaining tickets.

Paul Weller has announced the details of his new album 66 , which will be released on 24th May 2024.

As its title suggests, the album will mark the legendary musician's 66th birthday on 25th May- dropping the day before.

With it comes his soulful and percussive Soul Wondering track, which is available to stream on all platforms now.

The first official single from the record, Rise Up Singing, follows on 5th April and is described as "a sustained sunburst of soul and spirituality."

The "reflective and inward thinking album" comes with artwork designed by Sir Peter Blake - marking the first of Weller's albums he's designed since 1995's Stanley Road.

Worked up in Weller's Black Barn studio over the course of three years with a host of guest musicians, 66 includes 12 songs with lyrical collaborations from Suggs, Noel Gallagher, Bobby Gillespie on Ship Of Fools, Jumble Queen ands Soul Wondering respectively.

Paul Weller has announced a new album, 66 , and shared its first single, “Soul Wandering.” The album is titled 66 because that’s the age Weller will turn the day before the album is released, which will be on May 24 via Polydor. Check out the lyric video for “Soul Wandering” below, followed by the album’s tracklist and cover artwork.

Weller, of course, was in both The Jam and The Style Council, but has also had a decades long solo career. He recorded 66 over the course of three years at his Black Barn studio in Surrey, England.

The album features lyrical contributions from Suggs of Madness, Noel Gallagher of Oasis, and Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream. Say She She, Dr Robert, Richard Hawley, Steve Brooks, and Max Beesley also contributed to the album. Sir Peter Blake created the album’s artwork, working with Weller again for the first time since 1995’s Stanley Road .

66 follows 2021’s Fat Pop (Volume 1) and 2020’s On Sunset .

Henry John Deutschendorf, Jr. (December 31, 1943 – October 12, 1997), known professionally as John Denver, was an American singer/songwriter, activist, and humanitarian. After traveling and living in numerous locations while growing up in his military family, Denver began his music career in folk music groups in the late 1960s. His greatest commercial success was as a solo singer. Throughout his life, Denver recorded and released approximately 300 songs, about 200 of which he composed. He performed primarily with an acoustic guitar and sang about his joy in nature, his enthusiasm for music, and relationship trials. About hirie.

Hawaiian singer/songwriter Hirie spun her global citizenship into a lush and vibrant strain of reggae pop in the middle part of the 2010s. Backed by a six-piece band, the Filipino-born, Italian-raised, Oahu-based musician enjoyed somewhat of a breakout with her positively focused 2016 release Wandering Soul, and later built on that success with 2019's Dreamer. Hirie's multicultural upbringing was a result of her father's career as a United Nations worker. When her family transferred from Europe to Hawaii, she found what she considered her spiritual home. From the Filipino heritage of her birthplace to the sunny reggae and native sounds of her adopted home, she felt a strong connection to island music, which influenced the bright, laid-back pop of her self-titled debut album in 2013. For her second album, she became involved with the cooperative Rootsfire label and enlisted producer Danny Kalb. With her San Diego-based backing band behind her, 2016's Wandering Soul offered a more expansive sound with horns, dub techniques, and occasional psychedelic textures. It also featured guest spots from Trevor Hall, Nahko Bear, and Nattali Rize. She returned in 2019 with Dreamer, an album which offered a variety of styles, from easygoing reggae to ska-influenced rock and smooth pop. ~ Timothy Monger
