500 sprint car tour schedule

Anderson, Indiana: 500 Sprint Car Tour officials are excited to announce the schedule for the 2024 500 Sprint Car Tour racing season.

The ten race schedule will include nine points earning events and one special event, the 76th Annual Little 500. Special events do not count toward the season-long points championship.

“We are excited to kick off our third season of competition,” said Jared Owen – 500 Sprint Car Tour, Series Director. “The 2024 season will look both familiar and different to our fans and competitors. It was important to us to maintain a level of familiarity, but also bring in new challenges as well. We feel as though this schedule gives us that perfect mixture and we are very excited for the 2024 season.”

Tour Staples Return

Anderson Speedway will remain a staple on the 500 Sprint Car Tour schedule with four events in 2024 including the Little 500. The 24th Running of the Glen Niebel Classic will take place on April 6th as a tune up event for the 76th Annual Little 500. The series will then return to Anderson on July 13th and October 5th for the 3rd Annual Gene Nolen Classic and the 9th Annual Tony Elliott Classic. Each of the four races contested at Anderson Speedway in 2024 saw a different winner as Kyle O’Gara went to victory in the Glen Niebel Classic, Kody Swanson won the Gene Nolen Classic, Dakoda Armstrong claimed his first victory in the Tony Elliott Classic, and rookie competitor Jake Trainor outlasted the rest to become the first rookie winner since 1981 to win the Little 500 Sprint Car Classic.

Fans of the series will see three tracks from 2023, outside of Anderson, return to the 2024 schedule. The series will travel to Berlin Raceway on June 8th and once again on August 24th. The series had traditionally competed at Berlin on two separate occasions in each of the last two seasons and will continue that tradition in the 2024 season. Toledo Speedway and Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park will both see the 500 Sprint Car Tour return to their facilities on June 28th and October 19th respectively. IRP will once again play host to the final chapter of the 2024 season as the series will crown the Season Champion at the historic Indiana oval.

New Venues Added for 2024

Two new facilities have been added to the 2024 schedule that the 500 Sprint Car Tour has not yet visited. The first will be a trip to Kalamazoo Speedway in Kalamazoo, Michigan as part of a double header weekend with Berlin Raceway. The second will be the highly anticipated return of non wing pavement sprint cars to the high banked Salem Speedway in Salem, Indiana.

A Michigan Double Header weekend will see the competitors of the 500 Sprint Car Tour compete on Back-to-Back nights at Kalamazoo Speedway and Berlin Raceway in late August. The trip to Kalamazoo will be the first for the 500 Sprint Car Tour, which has a large fan base in Michigan. The track, known as the “Fastest ⅜ Mile Oval in the World”, was founded in 1950 and has played host to numerous premier racing events in their lifetime.

A much anticipated return on non wing pavement sprint cars to the high banks of Salem Speedway has come into fruition as the 500 Sprint Car Tour will bring the Joe James/Pat O’Connor Memorial back to the historic southern Indiana track. Salem Speedway has undergone major improvements since the last time the Joe James/Pat O’Connor Memorial was completed there. Some of the improvements include new safety lights around the track, a new scoreboard, as well as major improvements to the racing surface and the track lighting. Salem’s continued commitment to not only non-wing pavement sprint car racing, but to preserving the history of their facility, has driven the desire of fans and drivers alike to return to the daunting oval. The JJ/PO Memorial is set to be held at Salem Speedway for the first time since 2020.

Continued Focus on Growing the Sport

The United States Speed Association – Mel Kenyon Midget Series will accompany the 500 Sprint Car Tour at seven races in 2024. They will join the tour at Anderson Speedway, Berlin Raceway, Salem Speedway, and Kalamazoo Speedway. The 500 Sprint Car Tour will continue to partner with the series as a training ground for future sprint car teams and drivers.

500 Sprint Car Tour Heads to Nashville in 2023

The 500 Sprint Car Tour presented by Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Part Stores has announced that the non-wing pavement Sprint Car series will travel to Nashville, Tennessee and the Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in 2023. The event, which will be a 40-lap race held on Saturday, July 29th, will be the first non-wing sprint car race competed at the 0.596 mile track since 2004.

“We are excited to host the 500 Sprint Car Tour at The Fairgrounds,” said Scott Menlen, General Manager – Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway. “The skill and car control required to race a non-wing sprint car in competition is something we think open-wheel and stock car fans alike will appreciate. Rick Dawson and Jared Owen have done a terrific job developing this series and we embrace the opportunity to be a part of their tour’s continued growth.”

Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway will be one of three new tracks the 500 Sprint Car Tour intends to visit during the 2023 season. Along with Toledo Speedway and Lorain Raceway Park, Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway will play a crucial role in aiding the expansion of the 500 Sprint Car Tour’s reach into new markets. Known for being in the heart of “Stock Car Country”, Nashville provides the 500 Sprint Car Tour with the opportunity to expose a niche market to a wide range of fan bases.

The 500 Sprint Car Tour was formed out of the desire to continue the growth of pavement non-wing sprint cars. These unique open-wheel race cars with extreme horsepower produce high-speed, side-by-side racing. These are the same cars that participate in the historic Little 500 sprint car race at Anderson Speedway every May on Memorial Day Weekend.

“The Nashville Fairgrounds Fans are in for a treat!” said Jared Owen, 500 Sprint Car Tour – Series Director. “This side by side, open wheel style of racing is something fans won’t want to miss. Bob Sargent and Scott Menlen have done a fantastic job promoting the Fairgrounds and we look forward to the opportunity to bring non wing sprint car racing back to Nashville.”

Only three current drivers have competed in a 500 Sprint Car Tour event and also competed in the last non-wing Sprint Car event at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in 2004. Eric Gordon, Aaron Pierce, and Bobby Santos III all competed in the then USAC sanctioned event that boasted twin 77 lap features. Bobby East went to victory lane in the first feature and Dave Steele followed suit, taking the checkers in the second feature of the night.

Nashville fans are sure to see some of the biggest and best names in pavement sprint car racing when the 500 Sprint Car Tour takes the track. From Little 500 winners to USAC Silver Crown champions, the 500 Sprint Car Tour provides fans a premier lineup of racers. Tyler Roahrig, two-time and defending Lucas Oil Little 500 presented by UAW winner, has committed to the full 2023 schedule and will look to compete at Nashville for the first time since the early days of his career. Seven-time USAC Silver Crown champion and three-time Little 500 winner, Kody Swanson, will also be in attendance as he defends his position as reigning series champion. Bobby Santos III, Little 500 winner and former SRX competitor, will be the only confirmed driver to compete in the 2023 event that also competed in the 2004 non wing sprint car race at the famed oval.

Joining the 500 Sprint Car Tour, there will be a full slate of local racing action including the Nashville Pro Late Models 100 lap feature event on the 5/8-mile track. They are routinely one of the most competitive late model fields in the country. Also in action on the quarter-mile track are the Limited Late Models, Street Stocks, Pure Stocks, Front Runners, Legends Cars, and Bandoleros. A complete 2023 schedule for Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway is expected to be released in the coming days.

500 sprint car tour schedule

The 500 Sprint Car Tour will run a 10 race schedule from early April through mid October. Nine of the 10 races in 2023 are points earning events with the 75th Annual Lucas Oil Little 500 presented by UAW (Saturday, May 27th, 2023) being a non-points earning special event. 500 Sprint Car Tour to return to Berlin Raceway with Kenyon Midgets

500 sprint car tour schedule

The 500 Sprint Car Tour presented by Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Parts Stores will return to Marne, Michigan and Berlin Raceway for two races in 2023. For both events, the 500 Sprint Car Tour will be joined by the United States Speed Association Kenyon Midget Series. The two series will join a host of local Berlin divisions on June 10th and August 5th.

“Everyone here is excited about the return of the Kenyon Midgets to the Berlin Raceway,” said Jeff Striegle, General Manager at Berlin Raceway.. “Once a staple here at the track, years ago, they have just basically disappeared from the state. Fans from all over Michigan have been asking for a midget show, and now they will get back what they have been waiting for. The midgets along with the 500 Sprint Car Tour will be a tremendous show. Two 500 Sprint Car Tour shows last season had our fans asking for more, and they got it!”

The United States Speed Association (USSA) was incorporated in 2009 to organize and conduct racing events, and is the sanctioning body of the Kenyon Midget Series. Mel and Don Kenyon developed the Kenyon Midget Series with the goal of providing competitive racing at an affordable price. Mel Kenyon had 380 midget feature wins, 7 USAC National Midget championships, and 8 starts in the Indy 500 during his illustrious career. The developmental series has produced multiple Little 500 champions and continues to be a feeder system for various series and disciplines including the 500 Sprint Car Tour. The series takes place at many local short tracks across central Indiana, and will look to expand their reach north as they visit Berlin Raceway.

“The Kenyon Midget Series is looking forward to joining the 500 Sprint Car Tour at Berlin

Raceway in 2023,” said Brad Hayes, President – USSA. “It’s a unique opportunity for our racers

to showcase their talents in front of Berlin’s great fanbase and to strengthen our position as a

feeder series for the 500 Sprint Car Tour.”

Berlin Raceway is a paved, 7/16 mile oval located in Marne, Michigan. The track has 13 degrees of banking in the turns and 9 degrees of banking on the straights. The 500 Sprint Car Tour visited Berlin Raceway twice during their inaugural season. Tyler Roahrig (Plymouth, Indiana) was the fast qualifier for both events and subsequently went to victory lane in both efforts. Berlin Raceway was a significant supporter of the 500 Sprint Car Tour presented by Auto Value Bumper to Bumper Parts Stores, and will continue to be a staple on the 500 Sprint Car Tour schedule.

“We are excited to return to Berlin Raceway in 2023,” said Jared Owen, Series Director - 500 Sprint Car Tour. “The facilities and crowds at Berlin Raceway are first class. We are excited to partner with the Kenyon Midget Series and bring more open wheel racing to Western Michigan!”

The 500 Sprint Car Tour was formed out of the desire to continue the growth of pavement non-wing sprint cars. The tour was formed and managed by Anderson Speedway. Anderson Speedway continues to hold the most prestigious pavement sprint car race in the world, The Little 500. The tour features non-wing pavement sprint cars. These unique open-wheel race cars with extreme horsepower produce high-speed, side-by-side racing. These are the same cars that participate in the historic Little 500 sprint car race at Anderson Speedway every May on Memorial Day Weekend. Drivers from across the country compete on the tour as it travels across the Midwest from early April thru mid-October.

Kyle Larson eyes Indy 500-Coke 600 double as busy May begins for him at Kansas Speedway

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Kyle Larson began what will become a busy month of May on a small dirt track nestled in a crook of the Missouri River, where he started outside of the top 10 in his sprint car Friday night and managed to climb to third place by the finish.

By the end of the month, Larson hopes to have made some history.

The 2021 NASCAR Cup Series champion is trying to join Tony Stewart as the only drivers ever to complete “the double,” finishing every lap of the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day. Several have tried over the years, most recently Kurt Busch in 2014, but the task has proven to be among the most grueling in all of motorsports.

“I mean, for sure I’m excited,” Larson said Saturday, shortly before hopping into his No. 5 for Hendrick Motorsports and qualifying for the Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway. “I’m not like, overly anxious at the same time. I think I’ve known it’s been coming for a couple of years now, and just, you’ve got to be ready to get out there and get going.”

Larson also said he’s not thinking about Memorial Day weekend quite yet.

There is a lot more racing to do first.

He was running his sprint car again Saturday night at nearby Lakeside Speedway, then will try to improve on his finish Sunday from a year ago at Kansas, where Denny Hamlin bumped him out of the way on the last lap to snatch victory.

Larson also has NASCAR’s throwback weekend coming up at Darlington, and another sprint car race at Kokomo Speedway in Indiana on May 13, the night before he steps into his Arrow McLaren ride to practice for the Indy 500.

“It’s starting to set in what’s coming ahead,” Larson admitted. “You’ve got to do rookie orientation for the first time and you get there, and that was the first moment of like, ‘Holy (expletive), I’m actually in an IndyCar right now.’ But I think since then, you know, I’m kind of just more ready to finally get going.”

Larson already has a Cup Series win from Las Vegas in March, and he has a series-leading five top-fives, including a second-place run at Dover last weekend . He has led at least one lap in eight races and his 570 laps led are 35 more than any other driver.

That consistency has helped Hendrick Motorsports join Joe Gibbs Racing in dominating the Cup Series this season. Hendrick has five wins and Hamlin gave Gibbs its fourth last week at Dover, and it’s hard to believe the two power teams won’t be at the front again on Sunday; they are tied for the most wins at the track with eight apiece.

Hamlin is certainly looking forward to another duel.

Especially if it goes the way the spring race did at Kansas a year ago.

“It was a fierce battle,” he recalled. “We were the best two guys. He got out to a lead there and I remember just chasing him down there toward the end, when he was getting loose. But it’s so race to race. I can’t go back. We have a different car, new tire coming into this race. There’s not much I can put together other than how can I attack this track to get speed?”

CHARTER CHATTER

Hamlin, who co-owns 23XI Racing along with Michael Jordan, lamented the state of charter negotiations Saturday. Charters provide guaranteed starting spots and other financial benefits to their owners, but are due to expire after 2024. Owners want them to become permanent, so they can more easily attract long-term sponsors and investors. They also want more revenue, a bigger voice in NASCAR decisions and a share of new business opportunities, such as gambling revenue.

“Why is this such an important thing?” Hamlin asked. “We’ve had 11 teams go out of business since 2016. That’s not good. And certainly if we continue on the trend of a couple stakeholders doing really well and others not, that will continue.”

BACK IN THE SADDLE

Jimmie Johnson will be driving the No. 84 car for Legacy Motor Club for the second straight week as part of his abbreviated Cup Series schedule. The three-time Kansas winner finished 28th at the Daytona 500, 29th at Texas and 28th last week at Dover.

“This year has been more challenging for us in a lot more ways that we anticipated,” Johnson admitted, “but I do think we’re getting closer to a consistent pace that we hope to have week-in and week-out.”

FORD’S FOCUS

The season has so far been dominated by Chevrolet and Toyota, leaving Ford still looking for its first Cup Series win. But its cars were fast at Talladega, and Noah Gragson and Ryan Blaney finished sixth and seventh last week at Dover.

“Right now our program, I feel — if we were an 18th-place team last year, I think we’re closer to a 10th-place team,” said Gragson’s crew chief, Drew Blickensderfer. “And 10th-place teams can win races.”

ODDS AND ENDS

Hamlin is the 9-2 favorite, according to BetMGM Sportsbook . Larson and William Byron are next at 5-1. … Ricky Stenhouse Jr. signed a multiyear extension this week to continue driving the No. 47 for JTG Daugherty Racing. … Corey Heim is driving the No. 43 again in place of Erik Jones , who was cleared to return by NASCAR, but is sitting out one more week as he recovers from a crash at Talladega. Jones sustained a compression fracture in his back in the wreck.
