Kansalakan Enchanted River is one of the many beautiful places in Visayas and it sits deep within the forests of Negros Oriental. People describe Kansalakan as enchanted because of its consistent deep greenish color, something that is rare to find.

Hinagdanan Cave is one of the top tourist spots in Bohol . The Cebuano word Hinagdanan means “laddered.” This name pertains to the stairs that you need to use to go down this wonderful cave.

Hinagdanan is a limestone karst cave that was accidentally discovered by a local. It was used as a hideout by Filipinos trying to escape from the Japanese army during World War II. 

The entrance to Hinagdanan only fits one person at a time. The space within the cave is less than 100 meters long. Thus, the number of people in the cave is restricted to only 50 at a given time. Some parts of the ground are smooth and moist due to the natural droplets from the cave.

While inside, you will see several stalactite and stalagmite rock formations and a freshwater lagoon. Visitors usually love to swim in this lagoon, which is approximately 10 meters deep. Just outside the cave entrance lies many restaurants and souvenir shops, which cater to the growing number of tourists visiting Hinagdanan.

Biri Island is one of the natural wonders of the Samar region. It is situated off the northwestern tip of Samar Island. Biri’s surroundings remain unspoiled and it is widely known for its stunning and unique rock formations.

The Manjuyod White Sandbar often described a magnificent strip of powdery white sand surrounded by crystal clear water. This is why Majuyod is fondly called the Maldives of the Philippines. This sandbar stretches to 600 hectares and is located off the coast of Bais City, Negros Oriental. 

The sandbar is submerged in the water during high tide but emerges during low tide. Native wooden houses on stilts are scattered across the sandbar. Biri Island offers a variety of resorts, restaurants and diving facilities, so you can stay for a few days. The habal-habal is the main mode of transportation here. It’s a reconstructed motorcycle that can seat up to three people.

You will need to hire a boat (banca) from Catarman port in order to reach the Eastern Visayas tourist spots. Depending on the weather, the boat ride can last up to an hour. To join the tours to the amazing rock formations, you must register with the Tourism Office once you arrive on the island.

Central Visayas (Region VII Profile)

Central Visayas is strategically located in the heart of the Philippines. It is the gateway for foreign and domestic tourism, lying in the midst of both air and sea traffic. Composed of four provinces namely: Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental and Siquijor. The region is blessed with beautiful beaches, a plethora of sea life, a number of caves and potential areas for mountain trekking. Moreover, the region is steeped in historical significance. Events ranging from the death of Portugese explorer Ferdinand Magellan at the hands of chieftain Lapulapu of the island of Opon (known as Mactan Island) to the blood compact between Miguel Lopez de Legaspi and Datus Sikatuna and Sigala as well as other significance events will make a visit to the region very interesting.

A Blessed Region

Its physical attractions are both natural and man-made. Its beautiful pristine white beaches with clear blue waters, rich marine life and white corals offer some of the world's best scuba, snorkeling, and diving sites. Some of the region's provinces enable visitors a glimpse of a rich history and tradition as well as culture and quite a number of festivals. The region has numerous waterfalls, mountain trails and caves which provide opportunities for mountain trekking, spelunking and other outdoor activities for the more adventurous.

Cebu City is the main media hub for both the region and the island of Visayas. It is the home to many media outlets for both the million-nighttime and the 4-million daytime population of the city. Large media networks such as ABS-CBN Broadcasting Network, GMA Network, Inc., TV5, National Broadcasting Network, and RPN9 maintain their respective local stations and branches for viewership, commercial and news coverage purposes. Most of these stations broadcast local news and public affairs as well as entertainment and dramas to cater the local viewers.

Cable television operators are putting up cable TV stations in an effort to spread the TV signals all over the region. They also offer free worldwide array of television stations for various channels for news, sports, drama, cartoons, and advertisements.

Aside from the 24 national daily newspapers available, Cebu City also has 20 local newspapers. Among the widely-read are the Sun Star Cebu. The country's main Islamic news journal, The Voice of Islam, was founded in 1961 and published in this city.

Cebuano is the dominant language of the region. Boholano is a dialectal variant of Cebuano spoken in Bohol. In the Camotes Islands, which is part of Cebu, Cebuano language is spoken in the towns of Tudela, Pilar and San Francisco. Except the town of Poro, in which, Porohanon is spoken (a variation or mixture of Cebuano, Hiligaynon (Ilonggo) and Masbateño language, with 87% Cebuano vocabulary). Tagalog, English and Spanish are also spoken in this region.

Transportation

The Port of Cebu is the region's main gateway. There are also ports in Dumaguete in Negros Oriental, Tagbilaran in Bohol and Larena in Siquijor. Inter-island shipping is served by numerous shipping lines, two of them fastcraft companies which serve all the provinces in the region.

The main airport is the Mactan-Cebu International Airport, which is in Metro Cebu. There are also airports in Dumaguete (in Sibulan town), and in Tagbilaran. Tagbilaran airport is serviced by Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines which flies only to Manila. Dumaguete is served by Air Philippines and Cebu Pacific, both of them flying only to Manila.

Up next, I’d say that one of the most unique destinations on this list is the Taklong Island National Marine Reserve or TINMAR of Nueva Valencia , Guimaras . It is one of those places where you can clearly see the abundance of both flora and fauna with your naked eye.

This hidden treasure of nature is composed of 37 smaller islands featuring an all-in experience for everyone! You can opt to explore the island’s stunning caves, visit amazing rock formations, walk along its breathtaking sandbars, and more. Oh, and if you simply want to chill and relax, you can also rent a floating cottage where you can enjoy a delicious lunch and even swim in some shallow parts of the sea!

11. Kawasan Falls | Cebu

This majestic waterfall consists of three (3) breathtaking cascades of water where tourists can enjoy swimming and diving all they want. The waters here are deemed to be cold and refreshing so don’t hesitate to hop on and take a quick swim! Kawasan Falls is located at the foot of Mantalongon Mountain Range, which is about 1 kilometer away from Badian national road. Canyoneering is the best way to traverse the trails en route to Kawasan Falls, which is a popular outdoor trek that involves passing through a series of creeks, streams, and canyons. It requires a lot of walking, jumping, and even swimming so be ready! Don’t worry though, because once you reach Kawasan Falls, I’m sure that all the efforts and hardships will be worth it.

12. Manjuyod Sandbar | Negros Oriental

Certainly, this list wouldn’t be complete without including what is dubbed the “Maldives of the Philippines”, right? Yup! I’m talking about the famous attraction of Bais , Negros Oriental, the Manjuyod Sandbar. It is said that this magnificent strip of white sand stretches for seven (7) kilometers and is best seen during low tide season.

As you walk along this amazing sandbar, you’ll get the chance to admire the beautiful turquoise waters of Negros Oriental at its finest. You can also stay at one of the wooden houses built on the island which appear to be on stilts during the high tide season. All in all, there will surely be a wonderful escape waiting for you here at Manjuyod Sandbar!

13. Cuatro Islas | Leyte

Oh, another amazing attraction you shouldn’t miss in Leyte is the famous Cuatro Islas or Four Islands. This group of islands is best known for its picturesque landscapes filled with unspoiled waters, captivating rock formations, and hidden gems of culture. The four (4) islands are namely Apid, Digyo, Mahaba, and Himokilan. Each of these islands has its own stunning attraction which will surely highlight your island-hopping activities in Visayas!

15. Lakawon Island | Negros Occidental

Lastly, we will be heading to what is dubbed the “Boracay of Negros”. Known for its pristine white sand beaches and crystal clear waters, Lakawon Island is indeed an attraction you shouldn’t miss. It is a 13-hectare, banana-shaped island that features a hidden sandbar that only appears during the low tide seasons.

This sandbar allows people to walk along the magnificent waters as they enjoy the spectacular view of the island. And on top of that, Lakawon Island is less crowded compared to other island destinations in the country, making your stay very calm, serene, and relaxing. Which you truly deserve!
