  • Sandra E 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Authentic and personalized tour If you want an authentic experience of Kingston this is a great way to see history and embrace the culture in a very personalized way. Many thanks to our driver Hewitt and tourguide Courtney- wonderful communication and this pair was tons of fun and positive energy - we were picked up from our apartment and they had us laughing and singing the entire tour. Our first stop was the Bob Marley museum which was excellent and detailed, well curated and we learned so much. Second stop was historic Devon House where we got to walk around and also had the BEST ice cream I’ve ever had (they were not lying lol it’s really that good!) Hewitt also recommended we try the Goat Curry patty at the bakery- another winner! Next stop was Trench town cultural center, truly eye opening, we left with a deeper understanding of the rich history and influence of a place we hear so much about in music and poetry, it was like putting a face to a name. We also saw some beautiful street art and Courtney took great photos for us. Last stop was the record store on Orange Street- another place where it was so cool to step into a space where so much happened, it was great energy, seeing all the records and just embracing where we were. We want to Truly thank Courtney and Hewitt for a wonderful experience! Read more Written April 7, 2024
  • W6387CHcathyk 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Memorable Tour This day trip was one of the highlights of our time in Jamaica. Hewitt and Courtney are excellent drivers and tour guides. They are informative and friendly and open to all questions. We gained a better understanding of Jamaican culture and history through this tour. The guides went at our pace and ensured that we made the most of our time at all four locations: Bob Marley Museum (an absolute treasure), Devon House for the best ice cream ever, Trench Town culture yard, and Orange Street downtown. Thank you for an unforgettable day!! Read more Written March 31, 2024
  • vickyw798 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Easy sightseeing with a small group tour. We gained so much music knowledge! 100% recommend! We were super happy with our tour. Our guide was brilliant he gave us lots of information and worked really hard. Having the opportunity to go to Trench Town, Bob Marley museum and a record shop all in one with no hassle made our sightseeing really easy. There was only 5 of us on the tour which was perfect. We would 100% recommend this tour! Read more Written March 9, 2024

  • markwH2928MO 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Can't recommend this tour highly enough Courtney and Hewitt made the tour. Really personable and engaging but also very knowledgeable and informative. We sang and talked our way through the mountains which made our trip the highlight of our visit to Jamaica. Courtney's quick sense of humour was sublime and his knowledge of all things Jamaica was excellent. Just what you want in a tour guide. The tour guide at Craighton coffee estate was extremely knowledgeable too and the plantation tour was well-organised. We know so much more about coffee now. Hewitt drove well and safely, played great music, told hilariously bad jokes and also kindly dropped us at the Bob Marley museum which was not our pick-up point. Can't recommend this tour highly enough. Next time we visit we'll do the music tour of Kingston. Can't wait! Read more Written February 13, 2024

  • L7719HXcraigs 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great experience even for the casual fan. You would have to live under a rock to not have heard of Bob Marley. The wife and I are not huge, reggae fans, Bob Marley fans, or even music aficionados. Having said all that we recommend the tour highly. Hearing and experiencing for ourselves the source of the lyrics of some of the most well-known and popular songs of the last century was extremely interesting. Hewitt was a great driver and should be an honorary Canadian as he kept apologizing for the rain. The tour started late and ended latter due to the rain but due to Hewitt carful driving we always felt safe even in the heavy down pour. We are really glad we took a day away from relaxing to learn a little more about Jamacia and its most famous son Bob Marley. Read more Written November 16, 2023
  • 595jarreld 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A must-do tour I really enjoyed this. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about coffee. The hike was also gorgeous because you get to see coffee plants against the backdrop of a scenic view of Kingston. What topped off the tour was the driver, Hewitt Paulwell. He was a bucket key of laughs and not a bad singer either! His driving was better than his singing though but he really brought something unique to the tour. We listened to reggae and Hewitt even let me DJ for a while to play a bit of Soca. I 100% recommend this tour… and don’t forget to ask for Hewitt! Read more Written October 14, 2023

  • 983arid 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A glimpse of Jamaica beyond the resort Our family was visiting Ocho Rios on vaction, and I wanted my part-Jamaican sons to see at least a bit of the country beyond the resort. Being teenagers, I could only convince one of them to come, but he and I had a very enriching experience. Karen put a lot of thought into tailoring this tour to the ages and interests of our party. We toured the Tuff Gong studio (recording home to Bob Marley, and many other nationally and internationally famous artists), and had the best patties I've ever tasted at Devon House. I particularly like the goat curry patty. (The Devon House ice cream was very good and very generous, if not quite as mind-blowing as I'd heard--maybe if we'd had something besides plain chocolate...) We checked out some beautiful murals downtown, and visited the Trench Town tenement where Bob Marley first started writing music--that felt big. I came away wanting to learn more about Bob Marley, other Jamaican artists, and the rasta movement, since I feel like I will better appreciate the great significance of some of the things we saw. Coming all the way from Ocho Rios (about a 1.5-hour drive) was actually a bonus for us, since we got to see the beautiful interior of the country, and to chat with our charming driver Hewitt. And just driving around looking at Kingston was interesting too. That could depend on your comfort level--most of it isn't pretty, exactly (though the forested hills are always in the background), and some parts are obviously very poor, but I found it fascinating to take it all in. • Andy L 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles An excellent itinerary and superb driver and guides This tour was exactly as described The driver spoke to us , giving us history and description as we drove from the Moon Palace to Kingston. He also gave us some jokes and we would not hesitate to recommend the same driver again. When we arrived in Kingston a guide “Courtney” joined us , who was equally funny and knowledgeable as the driver. We visited some amazing artwork on Kingston , followed by a visit to Devon House for scrumptious Jamaican patties followed by amazing ice cream. Next we headed to the Bob Marley museum (where he lived ) this was a superb part of the day where we met friends of Bob Marley and a load of history and memorabilia. The guide there was also excellent . We finished the tour with a visit to Trench town. Also interesting , then return to the Moon Palace . This was a good value tour and highly recommend this to others . Read more Written August 11, 2023

We did the art tour in the morning with Courtney which was honestly 100% better than I expected!! For every mural Courtney hat a song and a story! Than Caren picked us up and we went to the blue mountains, the view was breathtaking, the nature, the flowers, everything! The feeling of peace when you’re on the balcony drinking the blue mountain coffee is worth every moment you spend sweating 😅 Karen and Courtney gave me all the information about everything, to be honest, the stopped for pictures, helped me with everything I needed. They’re funny, knowledgeable and the tour is worth every penny! 10/10 and much much better than I could ever expect! Highly recommended to everyone Read more Written June 18, 2023
  • leeyikki 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Jamaican Holiday: Reggae & Coffee I travelled with Courtney and Hewitt for 2 days around Kingston and Blue Mountains. The gentlemen's humour is really top notch! :) The tour orchestrated deep dives into some of the most famous neighborhoods in Kingston, to name some, Fleet Street, Trench Town, etc. I once had a bit worries about the security, but all these worries were immediately eliminated after encountering the friendly faces. To me, people on the enchanting island are all cheerful folks welcoming guests and accommodating our curiosity. Importantly, the guides also gave a lot of information on the street culture, the communities, the history, Bob Marley and his music, their daily life, etc. - real eye opener! I felt myself being a Jamaican in a day. We also travelled to Blue Mountains for a coffee tour. It is a cliche to describe the Blue Mountains Coffee as premium. The relaxing atmosphere on the hills and the knowledge on coffee beans are definitely a great delight in whatever sense. Such an inspiring and enjoyable tour! Thanks a lot to Courtney and Hewitt, and of course Karen for all the arrangements. Read more Written June 11, 2023

Crime and Public Safety

Subscriber only, crime and public safety | two city employees struck by a car in kingston, police say.

The car that struck two city Department of Public Works employees at the intersection of Cornell Street and Ten Broeck Avenue, police said Thursday. (Photo from City of Kingston)

Police Lt. Patrick Buono said the workers, who are 29 and 18 years old, complained of pain and suffered cuts and bruises. They were taken by ambulance to HealthAlliance Hospital. Buono did not further identify the city employees.

At about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, a 2016 Subaru driven by Meghan Lampe, 20, of Penfield, was traveling on Cornell Street towards Broadway when it was struck in the rear tire by a 2020 Kia driven by Eileen McGuire, 84, of Ulster Park, Buono said.

The force of the collision caused Lampe to veer to the right and collide with a DPW vehicle and then hit the city workers, he said. The DPW and a high-speed internet provider were working at the intersection simultaneously on Wednesday morning, Buono said.

McGuire, who was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way at an intersection, a violation, told police that a flagperson had flagged her path through the intersection. But, Buono said there was no flagperson at the intersection.

He said the crash remains under investigation as police review video evidence and conduct interviews.

Buono added that drivers are responsible for their actions even when a flagperson is present. “Even if you are waived on by a flagperson, you are still obligated to (drive) in a safe manner,” he said.

Crystal Palace, West Ham, Wolves in talks for US pre-season mini tour

West Ham United , Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers are in advanced discussions to play in a new pre-season Premier League mini tour in the United States this summer.

Elite Tournaments — an organisation best known for staging youth soccer and lacrosse competitions — are in negotiations with the clubs to host the three-city Premier League event in late July.

Matches will be staged at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Maryland, Everbank Stadium in Jacksonville and a yet-to-be confirmed stadium in Tampa Bay.

Newcastle United and newly-promoted Leicester City had agreed to the proposal but dropped out, with the latter being replaced by Palace.

Last season, a number of England ’s top-flight clubs participated in the inaugural Premier League Summer Series, featuring Chelsea , Brighton , Brentford , Newcastle, Fulham , and Aston Villa . The matches were held across Philadelphia, Atlanta, Orlando, New Jersey, and Maryland.

The Athletic  reported in February that the 2024 Summer Series was cancelled due to several complications around organising the event, including issues around broadcasting. They are, however, looking at holding the series again in 2025.

With Manchester United , Manchester City , Chelsea, Liverpool , Aston Villa and Bournemouth already scheduled to tour America this summer, the new series will take that number to 10 Premier League sides playing pre-season games across the Atlantic.

Top clubs in England are prioritising the U.S. due to expected market congestion in 2025 and 2026 with the FIFA Club World Cup and the men’s World Cup.

Pre-season tours are considered crucial for clubs to engage with growing fan bases in key markets. For instance, Arsenal boasts more supporters’ clubs in the U.S. than there are states, and Manchester United connected with over 4,000 supporters through various club-affiliated events last summer.

Five Boro Bike Tour is pedaling back to NYC this weekend. Here’s what to know.

' src=

The TD Five Boro Bike Tour, the nation’s biggest communal bike ride, is returning to the Big Apple this weekend for its 46th iteration through the streets of all five New York City boroughs.

Forecasters are predicting a wet and rainy day on Sunday, May 5, but that won’t stop about 30,000 cyclists from getting on two wheels and pedaling along the 40-mile course, which begins in Manhattan, grazes the Bronx, returns to Manhattan, then travels through Queens and Brooklyn before ending on Staten Island.

The tour, which is organized by Bike New York and supports bicycle education programming, has run every year since 1977 except for 1991, when it lost its original sponsor, and 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

city tour kingston

The first wave of cyclists will begin the tour at 7:30 a.m. in Lower Manhattan, while the sixth and final wave will depart at 10:25 a.m.

Numerous streets will be closed to auto traffic for the tour. Those include Sixth Avenue in Manhattan between Franklin and West 59th streets, the FDR Drive between the Third Avenue Bridge and 63rd Street, the Queensboro Bridge upper level, the Brooklyn-bound span of the Pulaski Bridge, the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway from Downtown Brooklyn to Bay Ridge, and the lower level of the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge.

Visitors can take a firsthand look at how Winnebago RVs are built in Forest City

city tour kingston

If spring has you dreaming of the open road. Winnebago is inviting you to visit a place where those dreams come true.

From now through October, the top-10 RV maker is offering free tours of its Forest City plant, where it has been making motor homes for more than 60 years, as well as its Lake Mills camper van plant. Sights include Forest City's “Big Bertha,” the building that houses two 1,000-foot-plus assembly lines where huge Class A and C motor homes are bolted together.

Plant tours have been a Winnebago staple for more than 40 years and company officials say a typical summer will bring more than 10,000 viewers through the facility, peaking around the time of the annual July Camp Winnebago gathering of Winnebago owners in Forest City.

For Winnebago, it's an opportunity to connect with its customer base and highlight its RVs to prospective buyers.

“The factory tour allows us to highlight the processes and procedures that make Winnebago RVs best in class," said Kelli Harms, marketing manager for Winnebago.

Winnebago Industries was incorporated in Forest City on Feb. 12, 1958, and adopted its current name two years later. The company in 2021 moved its headquarters to the Minneapolis suburb of Eden Prairie, Minnesota , but maintains most of its manufacturing facilities in Iowa.

Factory tours of the Forest City plant are available at noon Monday through Friday and at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Tours of the Lake Mills facility, where camper vans are built, are at 9:30 a.m. Monday and Wednesday.

More: As Kum & Go is sold, here's a look at other Iowa-born, but no longer based, companies

All tours originate at the Winnebago Industries Visitors Center at 1045 S. Fourth St. in Forest City and last about two hours.

The tour of Forest City plant includes several steps of the manufacturing process, culminating in a birds-eye view of the assembly lines from Big Bertha's mezzanine.

The Lake Mills facility features a walking tour showing the complete construction process for camper vans.

From 2022: Winnebago takes the wraps off new all-electric RV concept

Reservations are recommended for both the Forest City and Lake Mills tours. Call 641-585-6936. The Visitor’s Center is accessible to those with disabilities, but the factory tours include staircases, significant walking and standing.

Closed toe shoes are required, and visitors must be at least 16. Visitors also can view a virtual factory tour at the Visitors Center.

Winnebago employs about 2,000 workers in northern Iowa.
