Doha Cruise Ship Schedule

A massive new cruise ship is set to function as a floating hotel for the Qatar World Cup, and rooms start at $220 a night. Take a look inside.

  • MSC Cruises launched a new luxury liner ahead of the Qatar World Cup.
  • The ship is expected to host more than 6,700 fans at the World Cup.
  • A single night's stay on the docked ship during the World Cup starts at $220.

MSC Cruises just launched a new cruise liner called the MSC World Europa. The luxury cruise is currently moored in Doha, Qatar, and is expected to host thousands of fans during the World Cup in November.

Chantiers de l'Atlantique, one of the world's biggest shipyards, started construction on MSC World Europa in 2019. The ship was fully constructed and delivered to MSC Cruises in October, and it's scheduled for its maiden voyage around the Middle East in December.

MSC World Europa is slated to be used as a hotel for fans at the Qatar World Cup from November 19 to December 19.

MSC Cruises did not reply to Insider's requests for comment.

MSC Europa is the largest ship in the cruise line's fleet — it has a gross tonnage of 215,863. In comparison, the Titanic had a gross tonnage of 46,328, which is about four times less.

The MSC Poesia and MSC Opera, two other cruises in the fleet, are also currently docked in Doha to accommodate fans. MSC Cruises has a  fleet of 22 ships.

The massive ship has 22 decks and 2,626 cabins, which means it can accommodate more than 6,700 guests at a time.

The ship is designed with a yacht club, which is an area exclusive to VIP guests.

The yacht club has 152 cabins and two suites, accounting for a fraction of the 2,626 cabins on board. Its amenities include a private pool and 24-hour butler service.

Booking up a yacht club cabin for the ship's nine-day maiden voyage start from $2,290.

A nine-day cruise around Qatar and the United Arab Emirates costs around $1,070 for an entry-level interior cabin. The ship is expected to begin cruising after the World Cup in December.

There are four main room categories on board: interior, balcony, suite, and yacht club, cruise booking website Clean Cruising shows. The interior cabin does not have windows, a virtual tour shows.

During the duration of the World Cup, however, the ship will stay docked in Doha, and will be used as a floating hotel.

A night's stay at the docked MSC Europa is slated to start from $220 per person. Prices fluctuate according to which stage of the tournament is being held on the day of the accommodation.

MSC Europa claims it's home to the world's longest dry slide in a ship, which spans 11 decks.

There are six pools and 14 whirlpool baths on board.

There's also a spa with thermal baths, in addition adults-only pools and water facilities made specifically for children.

Three cruise ships to arrive at Doha Port’s new Grand Cruise terminal Qatar

Three cruise ships to arrive at Doha Port’s new Grand Cruise terminal Qatar

The Grand Cruise Terminal will soon be unveiled at the newly renovated Old Doha Port, also called as the Mina District, which is a crucial tourist attraction during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™. Three new cruise ships are expected to arrive at this terminal and the first of those ships is the MSC World Europa.

The MSC World Europa is the first passenger ship to dock at the Grand Cruise Terminal on November 10. It is also a part of the three cruise ships repertoire that will also play the role of three floating hotels during the World Cup. The terminal and the Old Port is an attempt to revive the old connection between Doha and the sea, and features a classic Arab design.

The Grand Cruise Terminal at Doha Port has already been crowned as “one of the world’s most beautiful cruise terminals” by Forbes. It will also feature an aquarium and an art gallery. The new terminal located at Doha Port will keep Doha and the Gulf accessible during the tournament and post that. Qatar Tourism estimates that the terminal will welcome more than 300,000 passengers each year.

Doha represents an amazing combination of the old and the new. Skyscrapers here coexist with the century-old city sites and oriental bazaars, whereas its new cruise terminal is considered one of the best in the entire Middle East.

Where Cruise Port Is Located

Before the year 2022, cruise ships docked at Hamad cargo port located 40 kilometers from the center and it was inconvenient to get everywhere from it.

And yet, a new modern cruise terminal “Grand Cruise Terminal” was built for the FIFA World Cup in 2022. Located not far from the city center it is currently the main one. This new cruise terminal can simultaneously accommodate 2 cruise ships and 7000 passengers.

The cruise terminal building is wholly new and modern. Inside, a large aquarium “meeting” passengers can be found inside.

Qatar's cruise ships-turned-hotels are a 24/7 booze-fueled party for World Cup tourists

Mark Ogden thinks England look stronger than France, Brazil and Argentina after the 3-0 win against Senegal. (1:50)

cruise ship docked in qatar

DOHA, Qatar -- The glass door to the La Plage pool deck slides open, I walk through, and it's as if I've been transported into another world -- one that is thousands of miles away from Qatar.

It's a little after noon, and alcohol is flowing in all manner of ways. People are sprawled out on lounge chairs, sleeping off hangovers or perhaps just the game from the previous evening. And there's more exposed skin sizzling in the sun than you'd otherwise see in months here in Doha -- enough to keep a dermatologist employed for the rest of their life.

Yes, this is in Qatar -- the small, conservative Muslim country hosting the World Cup -- but this is not in one of its hotels or public spaces. Rather, it's the cruise ship MSC World Europa, which is docked at Doha's newly revamped cruise ship terminal. You don't have to book a room to enjoy the ship's amenities, either. For a cool $50, you can get a day pass, but for those staying overnight, it's one of those places where the party never stops.

"This place is like Vegas on water, man. It's been incredible," said Marc Laszcz, 28, a real estate agent from San Diego. "We've been here about a week now and just living it up. It's like you're walking onto the Strip, you walk into one of the Bellagios. This place never sleeps. It goes 24 hours.

"The Welsh and the British people there are up at the bar, just keeping it going. And then they fall asleep, they wake up, they keep going, fall asleep around 4 or 5 in the morning. We're up by 7 because the sun's up and it's just nonstop. It's a great time. And we're here to cheer on the boys in the red, white and blue."

How a cruise ship becomes a World Cup hotel stand-in

When the Qatar Supreme Committee began wondering how it would accommodate upward of 1 million visitors for the 2022 World Cup, hotel space was a big concern in Qatar, a country that could only accommodate a small fraction of that . So, organizers hit upon a novel way to alleviate some of the strain on the city's hotel industry: turning cruise ships into floating hotels.

The MSC World Europa -- one of three MSC ocean liners brought in -- fits the bill as a hotel and then some. The ship is gargantuan at over 1,000 feet long and 223 feet high with 22 decks. It accommodates 6,700 passengers, though according to one customer service rep on board, the ship is only about half-full at present. The ship is fully staffed, however, and they're practically falling all over each other to help -- one staff member even insisted on carrying my drink for me as I moved from one table to another. And most pleasing to the Supreme Committee, the ship is fueled by liquid natural gas (LNG), Qatar's cash crop.

So how is life on the cruise ship?

"It's been awesome," says Kody, 44, who hails from Vancouver, British Columbia, and is taking in the World Cup with her husband, Dean, and their two sons. "It's Groundhog Day to some extent, buffet-wise, but in terms of the spirit, nothing compares. It's awesome to have everybody from a whole bunch of different countries gathered together."

For Cayhan Movaghari and Alex De Thier, both 25 and from the Washington, D.C., area, that opportunity to mingle with a veritable United Nations of fans at close quarters has been the best part of being on the boat. "We've gotten to have breakfast with folks from Australia," Movaghari says. "We've had drinks with folks from Mexico, from Portugal. There's some amazing Iranian people on the boat, which has been wonderful. So it's just been, overall, fantastic."

You never know who you might run into, either.

Nawaz Hussain is attending the World Cup with his brother Mohammed Ali -- pronounced "like the boxer," Ali says with a smile -- and his nephew Rian Hossein. He proudly displays a picture he took on the boat with Jorge Burruchaga, scorer of the winning goal for Argentina in the 1986 World Cup final against Germany . All three hail from Chennai, India, and are here to soak up every minute of this World Cup.

Ali, 58, marvels at the play of the Arab countries so far in the tournament, while Hussain, 30, praised Canada , despite the Reds' defeat to Croatia earlier in the evening. "They played well above expectations," he said. The idea of using a cruise ship as a hotel left an impression on him as well. "Generally they build infrastructure and then it goes to waste after the tournament," Ali says. "So the whole idea of bringing cruise ships, accommodating thousands of people, and then sending them back when it's not needed, I think that is brilliant."

One place where the party isn't going on at all is the ship's casino, which is lit up but completely empty as I walk through, save for two lonely bartenders with no one to serve. It seems straight out of "The Shining," and I half expect one to ask me, "How are things going, Mr. Torrance?" Instead, one explains that since the ship isn't in international waters, the casino is shut down. The shakedown of that part of the ship will have to wait until the first official trip to sea, which is set for later in December.

As odd as the idea of staying on a cruise ship for the World Cup sounds, it has its merits beyond just a bed to sleep in. To many visitors, Qatar was a huge unknown, including just how strictly the rules on public consumption of alcohol would be enforced. When the Supreme Committee decided only two days before the tournament that there would be no alcohol sold at stadiums , that clinched it for some. Yet the ship has just about everything one could need.

Both Brian Trott and Mike Andrews had been on the boat for only a few hours, having previously stayed at one of Doha's hotels. But already they were feeling at home. "We were happy with our choice once they banned alcohol around the stadiums," Andrews said.

The MSC World Europa even boasts its own brewery on board that will "serve a range of 'Oceanic' beers made with desalinated sea water," according to marketing materials, for those itching to get the full "at sea" experience.

There's also a security aspect that attracted some tourists to stay aboard this floating hotel, though it appears Doha has lived up to its reputation for being an incredibly safe city.

"When we booked this a couple of years ago, we thought it would be worthwhile, especially with [Qatar's] approach to drinking. It's a safer option," said Mark, a 38-year-old designer of security systems from outside London. "If we do a cruise ship, they can have loads of bars, they'll have loads of restaurants. If everything goes horrendously wrong outside of [this ship], we'll have that safe space to go back to.

"You don't have to spend too much time in the sun if you don't want to. But it's still weird to have it be so warm in November, especially when you're talking to friends back home and they're telling you how bad the weather is."

The idea of having so many fans in close quarters might create some tension, especially with the "liquid courage" so readily available. But the experience of guests who spoke to ESPN for this story indicate this has been kept to a minimum.

Victor Suarez, 32, who owns an escape room company in Mexico City, is enjoying lunch at the ship's sushi restaurant, Kaito, with his companion, 32-year-old Mabel Guerra, a fashion designer. "This is breakfast," she said. He remarks how much of the banter has been in good fun, especially at the bar, Master of the Seas, earlier in the trip. "Everybody was wearing their jerseys from their country, and they started singing their chants," he said. "The Brazilians started fighting the Argentinians. Not in a bad way, just with their singing. It was pretty fun."

The price of staying on a cruise ship at a World Cup

The ship works even for people who aren't into the nightlife -- after all, this boat is serving as a hotel first.

Later in the evening, I run into Joao Silva and Roberta Carmo, who hail from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. ("The city of the 7-1," Silva said, in reference to Brazil's defeat to Germany by that score in the 2014 World Cup semifinal.) They call the experience of staying on a cruise ship a "nice surprise" given its close proximity to the city and attractions, though there is one problem.

"There's no vegan restaurant," he says. "We are eating in the city."

Kids are welcome on the boat too. Steven van Hoof, a 36-year-old native of Antwerp, Belgium, who now lives in Cape Town, South Africa, is staying on the boat with his 12-year-old son.

"My wife doesn't like soccer, and my son's turning 12. I promised him we're going to do one of these boys trips," he said. "It ended up from three days to three weeks now. So we're staying for the whole lot, watching 23 games, which is the only benefit now having the World Cup in Qatar. It's like all the stadiums, you can run from one to another."

The cost of the trip varies widely, but it is still on the pricier side. For the final week of the World Cup, rooms are ranging from $347 a night to more than $2,500. The interior rooms leave barely enough space for luggage.

"It is a box," Mark from London said about his room.

Then there's the cost of food and beverage. Some deep, intense research conducted by this reporter can confirm that a draft beer does indeed run about $15.

"It's expensive," said Garrett Jones, a 28-year-old accountant from Boise, Idaho. "The accommodations itself actually weren't bad, but the food has been way more expensive on the boat compared to if you go to Souq Waqif. The food's a lot cheaper there." (Souq Waqif is Doha's oldest souq street market and a popular attraction in the city.)

Van Hoof added: "The boat hurts, but so would any other holiday. I'm thinking the World Cup is only once every four years and my son only turns 12 once, so there you go. Just took it on the chin."

Mark Ogden shares his experience of watching the opening game of the World Cup from a bar in Doha.

On this night at the Master of the Seas, the Croatia fans are enjoying the cool of the evening that comes with a 4-1 in over Canada, though a German couple are anxiously watching the final moments of Germany's match against Spain . As I sidle up to the bar, I strike up a conversation with a man in a Luka Modric jersey, though it turns out he's not from Zagreb or Split, but Boise, Idaho.

He introduces me to Kyle DePinna, a 34-year-old artist from Portland, Oregon. DePinna has been getting some gentle grief all day -- he had tickets to the Germany-Spain game, but after six consecutive days of going to games, he hit something of a wall and gave up his tickets. A jet skiing excursion removed any sense of him missing out.

"It was the best time of my life," he said. "We thought we were going to be late, and ended up getting there right at sunset. So we rode like 30 minutes as the sun was setting. I got, like, amazing pictures and videos."

When the whistle blows to end the Germany-Spain game, the deck at the La Plage pool, where people had been watching on a massive screen largely empties. A few people stick around to dance to "Oye Como Va," but the others have retreated to the ship's interior to eat or continue drinking. The party goes on.

World Cup 2022: Qatar bay cruise ships fill up as cabins go for $800 a night

Two vessels docked in doha can carry nearly 10,000 guests between them.

Two cruise ships docked in Doha's West Bay offer some of the more expensive options for fans attending the World Cup later this year.

The luxury cruise liners ― the four-star MSC Poesia and five-star MSC World Europa ― will between them offer more than 3,800 cabins capable of accommodating just under 10,000 guests.

While accommodation for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar is likely to be more expensive than normal, fans who decide to book a night on board the MSC Poesia can expect to pay at least $179 per night including breakfast, for a room with no windows, the official website shows.

A suite on the 'MSC Poesia'. Photo: MSC Cruises

With a minimum of two nights' stay for most bookings, fans are looking at paying at least $358 per stay for a room that accommodates up to two guests.

The cheapest rate available on board the MSC World Europa is about $350 for a double/twin room, with a buffet breakfast. The most expensive room is priced at about $795, can sleep four and comes with full board.

Dates are already starting to fill up, with rooms unavailable from November 23 to December 2 on the MSC Poesia and from November 26 to December 1 on the MSC World Europa .

Both cruise ship hotels offer a variety of cabin options, from traditional and ocean-view rooms to those in the interior that have no windows.

Those who book the MSC Poesia will have access to three swimming pools, spa and wellness centres, a poolside cinema, tennis and basketball court, as well as restaurants and bars.

The MSC World Europa , which launched in December, has the longest dry-slide at sea, six swimming pools, 14 ocean-view Jacuzzis, spa and wellness centre, shops and a collection of restaurants and bars.

Prices increase

While the price per room remains the same throughout the tournament, the number of minimum nights per stay can increase, the nearer the dates are to the closing stages of the tournament, depending on the choice of room and ship.

For dates around the semi-final, a three-night minimum stay is expected, while for the final and third-place play-off, there's a minimum stay of four nights.

For the World Cup final, the cheapest four-night stay on board MSC Poesia is $717, including buffet breakfast.

The 'MSC Poesia' has a large pool area on board. Photo: MSC Cruises

The most expensive cabin for the final is on the MSC World Europa , at $3,183 for four nights ― in a room that sleeps four, offers sea views and includes full board.

Moored at Doha’s Grand Terminal during the tournament, the ships will be situated 10 minutes by shuttle from the centre of Doha, Souq Waqif. The closest World Cup venue will be Stadium 974 , less than two kilometres away.

Various options have been announced by World Cup organisers, including a desert camp that will set you back $207 per night, with two single beds or one double on offer.

The camp quarters have bathrooms, fridges, Wi-Fi and housekeeping, with restaurants and takeaways available in the village.

Fans struggle to find accommodation

Tickets for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar are some of the most sought after in the tournament’s history, with 804,186 allocated in the first round of applications from 17 million requests.

In total, slightly more than three million tickets were made available, but one million have been reserved for Fifa and its partners.

Hotels are likely to be allocated to qualified teams before they are advertised for paying supporters, as many are already booked out for the tournament's duration.

Airbnb accommodation is another option for fans, although prices more than quadruple from the start to the end of the tournament.

A Hayya card gives fans with a match ticket a visa to enter Qatar, stadium access and free public transport. But to register, they need to provide their accommodation details.

Where does the ship dock in Doha?

Cool Cruiser

We are going on a cruise in February around the arabian gulf and are confused.

On the app, it says we dock at Hamad Port, which is really far away from the downtown. However reading comments and looking at the real time position of the ship, it looks like it docks at the Doha Port which is really closer. Does anyone know where we dock?

Hi Markorop, I can not answer your question about the correct dock in Doha but I did read a recent review (Jan1 2023) on trip advisor regarding MSC Europa and some confusion over the dock in Doha. You might want to read it, if you haven't already. It is titled "Style without substance..." From the review it appears that many people did go to the incorrect port in Doha, so your concern has validity. If you google MSC Europa reviews the review should come up. Hopeful by the time you sail MSC should have sorted out all the bugs. Hope you have a great time.

I read the review and it confirms the confusion. A lot of people went to the Hamad port (the one indicated on the app) but the actual leaving port was the Doha port (which is new so MSC probably haven’t updated their information)

Pretty sure it’s safe to assume they dock in Doha port, thank you!

Not so new, a couple of years already. The ship docks indeed opposite Stadium 974, Googlemaps marks the position as Cruise Ship Hotel - MSC Poesia (at least now).

17 hours ago, Cruisernat said: Hi Markorop, I can not answer your question about the correct dock in Doha but I did read a recent review (Jan1 2023) on trip advisor regarding MSC Europa and some confusion over the dock in Doha.

Could you kindly repost your review here… we are all eager to read what she is like? There is a thread asking for “first impressions” or you could start a new thread. Thank you.

WHATSINPORT.COM: YOUR CRUISE GUIDE TO 1200 PORTS OF CALL

Interactive world cruise map, home | cruise ships | port expenses | hints and tips, doha qatar cruise port guide.

The new two-berth terminal is capable of handling 6.000 guests simultaneously from big ships. Luxury marinas nearby are a good fit for smaller ships. Long-term plans include building a dedicated facility for smaller luxury ships.

The Grand Terminal building is divided into two terminals and a central area with departure and arrival halls, taxi and bus stands, specially-designed waiting areas for guests and staff, along with other tourist information services. The building facade honors the traditional Arab architecture with 1154 arches. Guests will experience a unique trip through the aquarium located between the two terminals at the centre of the building.

Tourists are transported to the city center by shuttle buses. They can be paid or free of charge depending on your cruise line.

Shuttle buses deliver tourists to Souq Waqif Square where a traditional oriental bazaar can be found, a 20 minute trip. At night, due to heavy traffic the trip might be longer

Hotels near the Cruise Terminal

Sightseeing:

Doha (population 370,000) is the capital of Qatar, located on the Persian Gulf. Major industries are oil and fishing. Located near Doha is Education City, an area devoted to research and education.

Just like other cities in the Persian Gulf Region, Doha is an intriguing a mixture of old and new. You will find fine modern architecture next to traditional Arabic Souqs (bazaars) and more than 260 mosques (the multiple-domed Grande Mosque is, in fact, the largest). The harbor is still a thriving international port well equipped for modern commerce. The traditional Dhow harbor is a favored attraction. The western style nightlife in Doha is centralized only in the international hotels. Here we find state of the art bars and discotheques. Local nightlife is found in traditional shi-sha places and coffee houses. The shi-sha is the Arabian water pipe; very popular amongst local people and foreigners. Not to forget, Qatar is the home base for Al Jazeera Media, the famous Arabian news station.'

Al-Corniche The highlight of Doha is unquestionably the Corniche. Doha Bay was carefully constructed with landfill to make an attractive crescent, along which runs a charming area of shaded footpaths, cycling tracks, the Al-Bandar restaurant complex, the famous Pearl Monument, moored dhows, a park and enchanting views. Heritage House Formerly an ethnographic museum, this restored Heritage Museum, was built in 1935 and offers the best view of the badghir (wind tower). It is no longer officially open to the public, however, the friendly Qatari employees of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Agriculture who now occupy the building are sure to let you in, if you express an interest. Doha Fort Built during the Turkish occupation in the 19th century, the interior of this fort consists of a large, paved courtyard, which acts as an impromptu forum for local sheyba (old men) to chew over the day's problems. The exhibits are somewhat neglected, but while Qatar National Museum remains closed for renovation, this is the only opportunity for visitors to view a wide range of traditional Qatari activities, such as weaving, wood carving, modern paintings, and other local crafts.

Tours Excursions Transportation:

Dohabus is running a hop on hop off bus tour around the city every 30 minutes direct from the cruise terminal

A popular excursion is to take the small boat ride from the Corniche (near the Sheraton) to Palm Tree Island in Doha Bay. It has been left as a nature reserve and is completely bare except for 2 trees (not palms).

Cruise ship passengers are now eligible for free 96-hour transit visas.

It pays to compare your cruise line tours here .

Nearby Places:

The thing to do, unless you have done it before, is to hire a jeep to drive you around the desert, riding the dunes. This will cost you several hundred Qatari rials, and may require a minimum of four persons to join in the fun. At international hotels, the receptionists will advise you, and hire a driver for you.

Shopping and Food

Doha is full of wonderful shopping opportunities. While there are not many locally produced crafts, Doha is full of souqs and shopping malls for your delight. One of the joys of shopping in Doha's traditional souqs is that the shopkeepers generally take the time to mingle with their customers, whether purchasing or just browsing. Despite some crowds, the souqs are a safe place to visit and bargaining is expected. The souqs are generally open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. One of the largest of the Middle East's shopping palaces is the City Center Shopping Mall. With 350 shops, tented architecture, marble flooring and glass elevators leading to an ice-skating rink, bowling alleys and climbing walls, it is more of an event than a destination.

The national currency is the Qatari riyal (QAR). The riyal is pegged to the dollar at the rate of QR 3.65 to US $1. U.S. Dollars are widely accepted.

Currency Converter

Communication:

Arabic is the official language, particularly the Gulf dialect. English is the most common second language.

Opening Hours and Holidays:

Shopping hours Generally Sat-Thurs 0800-1200 and 1600-1900 or later, with the malls open until 2100 or 2200. Some shops close on Friday.

How to Directly Access Cruise Ship Hotels & Fan Villages from Doha Airports

white airplane

Wait, there are Two Doha Airports?

That’s right! Ignorance may lead others to be surprised as well. Both are relatively close and only slightly alters routes in and out of Doha downtown.

Why are there 2 being used?

Well, the “old” airport is still in use today for non-commercial use, but with increased traffic for the month, both will be utilized to handle the demand.

Hamad International (commonly referred to as DOH)

  • This has been the commercial hub for Doha travelers since 2014 when it replaced Doha International.
  • Most of the traffic will be routed through Hamad International but there are some airline exceptions.
  • It was recently voted World’s Best Airport.

Doha International (commonly referred to as DIA)

  • Mainly used in non-World Cup 2022 times for Qatar’s royal family, air force and VIPs.
  • For example: Jazeera Airways, Pegasus Airlines, flydubai, SalamAir

What Airlines Are Using Doha International (DIA)

As the list seems to have grown, the best link we have found is TimeOutDoha which also provides some valuable information on travel as well.

As noted above, Jazeera Airways, Pegasus Airlines, flydubai, SalamAir were the first reported but others have been added per that TimeOutDoha article.

Direct Airport (DOH & DIA) Access to Downtown Doha, Cruise Terminals + Fan Villages

First, know that both airports will have standard use of Public Bus Routes, taxis, Uber and Careem + car rentals. These are always an option for transportation.

Also, the metro line can be used for both in and out of downtown Doha; however, the stops differ slightly.

That said, both will have standard access to rental cars, public buses, taxis, Uber, Careerm.

Lastly, when we say “Cruise Ship Terminals”, this is would include MSC World Europa, MSC Poesia and the most recently announced accommodation option, MSC Opera.

SOURCE : We pulled this directly from Qatar 2022 Site and highly recommend browsing for latest updates!

Using Hamad International Airport (DOH)

🚐 Direct Shuttles to Cruise Ships & Fan Villages

Note: This was updated Nov 09 as the information was updated from Qatar 2022 site.

Direct Shuttles will operate with a 24 hr service, operating every 15 minutes.

You can take a direct shuttle DOH to Downtown for:

  • Cruise Terminals
  • Barwa Madinatna
  • Barwa Barahat Al Janoub

We did not see anything that said this not a return service from Downtown to DOH.

Using Doha International Airport (DIA)

The differences using DIA are:

  • The metro from DIA to Downtown is the Gold Line
  • There are NO DIRECT SHUTTLES to the Cruise Terminals or Villages

🚐 Direct Shuttles to Downtown

Direct Shuttles will operate with a 24 hr service, operating every 30 minutes.

This will ONLY be DIA to Downtown (Souq Waqif); as there is NOT a direct Shuttle Downtown to DIA.

Note: There is NOT a direct shuttle to Cruise Terminals or Villages from DIA.

Shuttle Service between Metro & Cruise Terminals / Fan Villages

Again, using the Qatar 2022 Port details , we found the below detail regarding Shuttle Service between Cruise Terminal and (some) Fan Villages. It is unclear if more Fan Villages Shuttle Service will be added but recommend checking Qatar 2022 site.

“Also, you must book your seat in advance via the Hayya App. (We’re assuming this will be obvious on how to do so in due time as at the time of writing, there’s no way to view this).”

I no longer see a reference to needing to book a seat in advance on your source site. Nor do I see a place in the Hayya app. Any info on if this changed?

  • Those interested in learning and viewing Islamic art should pay a visit to the Museum of Islamic Art, which is a spectacular feature of Doha's skyline. The museum displays the full scope of Islamic art dating back 1,400 years and collected from three different continents.
  • Visitors should not miss the opportunity to visit Souq Waqif, which is the renovated Arabic market. Leisurely walks in Souq Waqif, provide the chance to soak in the traditional architecture and culture of Doha. The market is dotted with small shops that offer an array of Middle Eastern merchandise.
  • Another fun activity would be to visit the Doha Corniche, which is a waterfront promenade around Doha Bay that is seven kilometers in length. The Corniche provides a unique pedestrian experience within the heart of the capital where one can enjoy stunning views of the city.
  • To the Southwest, there lies Qatar's largest area of sand desert. This provides visitors the unique chance of taking a recreational safari. These safaris reward visitors with spectacular views of the landscape from the high desert dunes that always change depending on the time of day and lighting.

Pearl Mist cruise ship docks in Marquette’s Lower Harbor

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - A special visitor docked at Marquette’s Lower Harbor on Tuesday.

The Pearl Mist cruise ship stopped in Marquette for one of its many stops during a 15-day cruise.

Pamela Kuc from Washington State was one of the 150 passengers aboard. She said she took a tour of landmarks within the city, including the Peter White Public Library, Northern Michigan University and the Upper Harbor Ore Dock.

“I think I liked the ore docks,” Kuc said. “[The tour guide] said he would’ve taken us through the park out there, but the bus wouldn’t get through there.”

TJ Stauffer with Great Lakes Tour and Cruises hosted excursions. He said the Pearl Mist passengers were amazed by what Marquette had to offer.

“The hillside, the landscape, and then the mine rock stonework in the buildings and the foundations of the homes,” Stauffer said. “Everything about Marquette is unique to Marquette and they just love that.”

Travel Marquette CEO Susan Estler said these cruises shine a light on the city.

“What it really does is expose Marquette to people who otherwise would never be here, would never stop in Marquette or even think about coming here because it’s just out of their realm and not within where they were thinking of coming,” Estler said.

Kuc said one thing that stuck out to her was the kindness of the people. She said wants to return to Marquette to explore more.

“A couple hours in town isn’t enough time to see the whole thing,” Kuc explained.

The Pearl Mist will stay in Marquette overnight and then will head to Thunder Bay, Ontario on Wednesday.
