20 Latina Travel Bloggers You Need to Follow

Posted on Last updated: September 4, 2023

As you know I love being a travel blogger and content creator. As a Latina, I’m always on the lookout for other amazing Latina travel bloggers that are absolutely smashing it out of the park.

Here are 20 awesome Latina travel bloggers you need to be following!

1. Carol Cain ( @girlgonetravel )

If you love the vibe of Hallmark movies juxtaposed with world-class travel content, you need to be following Carol Cain.

Her travel content spans all around the world with her husband and kids, with tons of great tips, but she’s now relocated to the Finger Lakes in New York State with so much wholesome local content, she just feels like everyone’s best friend.

2. Olga Maria ( @latinaswhotravel and @dreamsinheels )

Olga looks after not one but two amazing travel sites. Her main one, Dreams in Heels, focuses on traveling in a luxurious way on a budget, and who doesn’t want to know how to do that?! We love a champagne lifestyle on a prosecco budget!

Her other content site, Latinas Who Travel is a community site and account that brings together content from Latina travel bloggers from all corners of the world.

3. Gerry Isabelle ( @DominicanAbroad )

Gerry is a super cool Dominican New Yorker with an awesome blend of cultural tips and insights about the Dominican Republic and loads of hidden gem videos and blogs about her hometown of New York.

Her content is really authentic, full of great imagery and information, and you learn a ton about Dominican heritage in the process!

4. Olivia Christine ( @OChristine )

Now based in Philadelphia, Olivia Christine is an Afro-Latina who was born in the Bronx in New York City. In addition to being an amazing travel blogger and content creator, Olivia is also an activist, raising awareness of the autoimmune disease Lupus, which she’s been diagnosed with.

A lot of her content revolves around how to manage pain and triggers when you’re traveling and how to live life to the fullest – it’s super inspiring!

I‘ve lived abroad for many years and love helping others find work abroad and figure out their “Move Abroad Plan.” Check out my class below to get you started ASAP!

move abroad master class

5. Annette White ( @bucketlistjourney )

If you’re a bit of a procrastinating queen who wants to travel more, you need to be following Annette White. She’s a goal-driven expert and marketer who shares how you can budget, plan, and live out your bucket list dreams and goals one small step at a time!

6. Jessica van Dop DeJesus ( @DiningTraveler )

Food is one of my favorite things on the planet, so having Jessica van Dop DeJesus travel all the way around the world, sharing content and blogs about different restaurants, local recipes, and the bars in the area, is a lifesaver.

If you consider yourself to be a foodie traveler make sure you’re following Jessica on socials and her blog.

7. Jen Ruiz ( @jenonaJetPlane )

Jen Ruiz has a pretty call story. She quit a career in law to travel the world and make content on a full-time basis. She even has a Ted Talk about it. If you’re looking for wanderlust-inducing travel content, you need to check her out.

More recently, she’s released a bestselling book called 12 Trips in 12 Months, so go ahead and buy a copy wherever you get your books or ebooks from!

8. Taima (@PoorinaPrivatePlane)

I have so much love for anyone who’s putting out budget travel content into the world, so Taima is an awesome account to follow if you want to know how to travel without breaking the bank.

Unlike a lot of popular travel influencers, Taima has a full-time 9-5 so is all about carving out time and budget to travel and ways to fit in short trips when you can, and exploring close to home.

9. Francesca Mazurkiewicz ( @onegrloneworld )

If you love celebrity content and worldwide travel, Francesca combines the best of both worlds. She used to be a celebrity publicist so she still goes to a lot of the big events, but she’s now a beauty and travel content creator.

Her site is full of amazing tips for keeping your skin happy on the road, and there are plenty of luxury travel reels and photos on her feed to keep you inspired.

10. Dani Ramos ( @NoHurrytoGetHome )

Who doesn’t love seeing luxurious travel photos, videos, and blogs? Dani Ramos has been traveling full-time since she was 17 when she bought a one-way ticket to Madrid with $1,000 in her pocket and just kept on going from country to country from there!

Her content is full of amazing landscapes, and she wears amazing look after amazing look – it’s kind of insane!

She shares her insights about what it’s like traveling as a deaf person, which places have been easily accessible for her, and places where the understanding of deaf people and disabilities isn’t quite as good yet. Definitely worth a follow!

13. Flavia Cornejo ( @LatinaTraveler )

Don’t get me wrong solo travel as a woman, especially a Latina woman, can be scary. I’ve been doing it for a while and it still hits sometimes!

Flavia Cornejo is a Peruvian-American travel blogger and content creator who posts tips and tricks for traveling solo and traveling sustainably – two things that are huge in the travel industry right now!

14. Brenda Mejia ( @Traveleira )

Unlike a lot of these accounts, Brenda Mejia’s Traveleira is entirely Spanish-language, and predominantly focuses on her Latin American travels. One of the main things that set Brenda’s content apart is the amount of content she’s written about using points and miles without having to get a credit card.

There are so many tips and tricks that she shares to save money on travel and get upgrades without having to go through a ton of annoying credit checks.

15. Gloria Apara ( @NomadicChica )

Another Latina travel content creator living and thriving in Germany, Gloria’s blog and content is full of fun and personality, which is a huge part of what her followers love about her!

She also has a super successful Spanish-language podcast called Sueños de Viajes, so you can either scroll, read her blog, or listen along as you travel – Gloria has all bases covered!

Welcome to Latinas Who Travel!

Latinas Who Travel is a Bilingual Travel Community and Movement which was not only created to encourage and empower Latinas to travel more, but we also empower women of color and honorary latinas. We connect latina travelers and the rest of our community through our meet-ups, events and group trips. In addition, we proudly showcase our culture through various media outlets such as our website, our newsletter, our Facebook Community (over 3,000 members), our daily instagram features (when you hashtag #LatinasWhoTravel | #LatinasqueViajan) and other social media outlets.

Our founder Travel and Lifestyle Expert and Digital Storyteller, Olga Maria of Dreamsinheels.com, created this group based on her experiences. She realized that during her extensive travels she often did not meet other Latinas. In addition, many times the locals would comment that she was the first person they ever met from her country.

How to Be a More Responsible Traveler in 2021

Travel stories, what my experience traveling as latina has taught me.

traveling as latina juliana barquero

  • Published November 18, 2019

Being the daughter of a Latino immigrant prepared me for life as a full-time traveler more than anything else ever could have. I have a deep sense of gratitude for my way of life as I’m all too aware that many people are forced to travel far from their homeland in order to flee danger. My father walked across Latin America when he was 24 to escape a bloody military dictatorship. Choosing to travel is such an immense privilege that I’ll never take for granted. I’ve had a passport from birth and grew up going back and forth between two very different places— Kansas and Uruguay . From a young age, I was aware that there are many ways to live life and that all are equally wonderful and worthwhile.

There are many advantages of traveling as a Latina. I rarely meet other Latinas, but when I do we have an instant bond. I launched the @latinaslovetravel community to bring Latinas together on Instagram while inspiring others to chase their travel dreams. I feel a kinship when I meet other people of color and have been fortunate to forge friendships over shared experiences.

Almost everywhere I go, people assume I’m a local. Perhaps it’s a touch of the confidence I developed after living in New York City for seven years. But, it’s more likely my brown complexion and features that make it hard for people to place me. I enjoy this ease of blending in—it brings me a sense of comfort and safety as I can fly under the radar. Being accepted as ‘friend, not foe’ makes it easier for me to truly immerse myself in a destination.

Even in India, Myanmar, and Indonesia people looked at me with curiosity and asked if I had a parent local to the country. I’ve been spoken to in Italian, Greek, and Arabic—only to apologize in English that I don’t understand. This has led to many cultural exchanges with people who are excited to learn about my background and has allowed me to ask questions about their culture. These genuine conversations are key for establishing a greater understanding of each other and combating racism. Outside of the United States, I’ve only ever faced discrimination for being Latina in Spain. However, I do often deal with ignorance and misconceptions about Latino culture and sexist stereotypes about Latinas.

Latino culture has so many parallels with numerous cultures around the globe. There are many  communities with similar foundations around family, food, and music. Growing up with a strong sense of culture makes me eager to experience other customs. I know so little about my indigenous Charrúa heritage (which became nearly nonexistent after colonization) that I especially love to learn about ancestral practices or visit at-risk communities.

traveling as latina matias contreras

Growing up in the United States, no one knew where Uruguay was. However, the tiny South American country has been recognized internationally for world-famous futbol players and for being a leader in clean energy and human rights . It brings me so much joy when people tell me they’ve heard of Uruguay–or have even visited.

I’m extremely proud of my roots and feel a responsibility to represent Uruguay as I travel. Uruguayans are non-existent in the global Latino community and media representation. I don’t represent all Uruguayans or all Latinos, which is such a diverse community. We come from over 30 countries. There are Indigenous, Asian, Afro, and White Latinos. Our cultures and customs vary widely across Latin America.

A major advantage of growing up with a parent who isn’t a native English speaker is my innate ability to decipher most accents. I’m very patient and would never dream of teasing someone for making a mispronunciation. Unfortunately, this same courtesy hasn’t been extended to me and I’m often made fun of for my lack of Spanish linguistic skills . I have a deep respect for those who are multilingual and wish it was a skill that came to me naturally.

I have a disproportionate advantage over other Latinas who desire to travel. I was born in the United States and have a passport without many limitations. However, I grew up in a middle-class family and never dreamed of traveling abroad—when we traveled it was to see family in Uruguay. I didn’t apply for study abroad programs as I knew I wouldn’t be able to afford the fees. If someone would have told 15-year-old me that I’d one day visit over 60 countries and have no intention to stop exploring the globe, I would have laughed at that ludicrous statement. I didn’t dare dream that this could ever be my reality. But, at 25, I took a leap of faith and left behind life as I knew it and dove into the great unknown—I turn 30 this year and haven’t looked back since.

This side of the world has always been home and for the longest time the only places I really knew anything about because I hadn’t been anywhere else. I spent the majority of my childhood between the United States and Peru. With family all over, my parents always wanted us to spend time with them hence our many road trips when I was younger. So far I’ve visited over 12 countries on this side of the world and 32 US States.

My first trip to Europe was at fifteen when I decided to trade in a typical Latina celebration, la Quinceñeara, for a three week trip gallivanting throughout el viejo continente (the Old World). Since then I’ve visited over 10 European countries and even made one of them my current home. It has been a journey to get to point so I hope you’ll follow along!

Cheap airlines between many European cities and Morocco led me to visit during my study abroad semester in Paris, France. I brought in the New Year that year with my cousin in the city of Dakar, Senegal. Years later I found a picture of my grandmother in front of the Pyramids of Giza and decided to go to Egypt and recreate the photo. I’ve only been fortunate enough to visit 3 countries in Africa so far, but I know I’ll be going to more soon.

“ Going into the unknown can be scary, but it’s scarier not even attempting to try. ”

I remember being nervous and thinking, “what am I doing here?” when I got off the bus in Medellin, Colombia during a 7 week solo trip through Colombia and Panama. I had just arrived feeling tired from the flight and could not figure out how to get to my hostel for the life of me. It was not the best start especially when you factor in that I used to get social anxiety and would worry too much about looking out of place or that I didn’t belong somewhere.

After a nap and shower, everything changed and I had an amazing time during the rest of my trip. But what if I really couldn’t deal and decided to leave? Thankfully, I’ll never know what path my life would have taken if I had left. After visiting more than 30 countries, all I can say is go for it. Whether that be a new career, relationship or adventure, it’s better to know the outcome, however scary, instead of forever wondering, “what if?”

Get to know me

I’m Flavia, a first-gen Peruvian American who travels as often as I can, even if that means going solo. My curiosity about other cultures, places, and food has led me to visit 30+ countries so far. It’s even taken me as far as moving to Spain, which I’m looking to have it be my home base for the unforeseeable future. I want to give women, particularly women of color, the tips and tools to travel solo in a way that is smart, safe, and secure and without breaking the bank. Since moving and studying abroad, I also share tips on what to expect and all the different things to be aware of

Trailblazing Latinas: Diversifying the Outdoors, One Step at a Time

F or Latinas in the outdoors, it's often rare to find a face that looks like theirs or a voice that sounds familiar. Because of the lack of diversity in the outdoors, several Latina hikers have taken it upon themselves to create spaces for them, and other women of color, to feel comfortable, represented, and educated when exploring nature. Here are five inspiring Latina women diversifying the outdoors who are ready to be your guide down any trail.

Anette Padilla

Running, biking, and swimming come naturally to Anette Padilla, a regular triathlon participant. But after coming across a social media post that encouraged users to have diverse feeds, Padilla began noticing that the outdoorsy accounts she followed were predominately white and male. After a failed online search for Latina hikers and explorers, she decided to start an Instagram presence as Outdoor Latina.

"I think some people feel they're not ‘outdoorsy' based on the traditional definition, so by broadening it and making it a little more inclusive, [it] empowers people to call themselves outdoorsy…and continue to do outdoorsy things," Padilla tells Luz Collective.

Currently traveling the U.S. in an RV with her partner, Padilla documents their trips while providing beginner tips for biking and hiking all in an effort to advance equity, diversity and inclusion in the outdoors. She also welcomes advice from more experienced outdoors people and shares this knowledge with her followers.

"In order to feel welcome, it's easier if you see someone that looks like you already doing it," she adds.

Heather Diaz

Through Hike and Lift , Heather Diaz is bringing representation in the outdoors. Diaz founded the blog to help people understand the fundamentals of hiking, camping, and backpacking. After learning about the Leave No Trace method, which encourages campers to not leave behind food, cans, plastic bags, or other items, she was motivated to teach and inspire others to do the same through online tips and guides, like how to plan a day trip or what to carry in your backpack. The goal is to help set individuals and groups up for camping and hiking success, no matter their level of experience.

"When I see people post a [nature] picture or image with a quote, it does nothing for me. I want [my followers] to feel inspired and empowered, and think ‘yes, I can do that. It makes sense,'" she says.

Growing up a runner, Diaz realized her love for nature could reach deeper levels by slowing down her pace in walking trails and camping overnight. For these trips, Diaz packs bright and bold colors; she's not a fan of the neutral tones that are popular in mainstream hiking gear. After a friend likened Diaz's style to tejana icon Selena, she started using her flamboyant prints and colors as a way to also inspire more Latinas in the outdoors.

"You don't have to conform to a certain look or style just so you can be outdoorsy," Diaz says.

Moving from Texas to Colorado for a job opportunity, Nez Nuñez was exposed to new landscapes. Living closer to nature, she says, improved her physical and mental health. In 2019, she started The Random Rover to share everything she could about her newfound love for nature.

"We were too poor to travel…but most of these things are free, and I just really want my nieces, nephews, cousins, my future kids, and future generations to know that the outdoor spaces are for all of us," Nuñez says.

In August, Nuñez extended the invitation to diversify the outdoors to others by creating All Women Outdoors , a digital outdoor community profiling women of all backgrounds, shapes, and sizes exploring nature. By widening representation of hikers and explorers, she hopes to encourage more Latinas to adopt these hobbies. Through the page, she also educates and raises awareness about how to preserve the beautiful landscapes that are pictured.

"I'm educating myself on people who [need accessibility] and things that I hadn't had to keep in mind when I'm outside," she adds.

Cindy Rodriguez

After a solo winter trip to Badlands National Park in South Dakota, Cindy Rodriguez realized the journal she carried was among the most important items packed. After all, her trip through the national park was inspired by her need to reflect on life and return to the outdoors. Not long after, Reclama , a spiritual wellness community for women of color she founded in 2018, was born.

"You take up space in the woods, you will take up space in other parts of our life," Rodriguez tells Luz Collective. "…I tell [my groups], ‘we're going to do a sharing circle at the trailhead. I'm going to smudge you with sage. You might even feel people kind of looking – ignore them. This is about us right now.'"

Diversifying the outdoors as a spiritual hiking guide, Rodriguez leads her groups by asking hikers to make sure they take moments to stop, breathe, meditate, and journal.

"To be with other women that look and sound like me who are taking up space in nature is reclamation, and it's empowering to me," she adds.

Evelynn Escobar-Thomas

Growing up watching kids of all racial and ethnic backgrounds enjoying the outdoors during summer camp on the Disney Channel's reality TV series Bug Juice , Evelynn Escobar-Thomas assumed she'd see similar representation during her first national park trip at 23 years old. She didn't. To get this representation, Escobar-Thomas formed Hike Clerb , an intersectional hiking community and nonprofit that centers Black and brown women working to dismantle white supremacy, recharge, and focus on collective healing.

"As Black and brown people, we do carry a lot of intergenerational trauma, and nature is this sort of infinite source of healing [that] we can tap into and heal ourselves and our past generations," Escobar-Thomas says.

The hikes are open to anyone who aligns with the mission and values of the community, including the goal to promote diversity in the outdoors. She tries to ensure that anyone who is interested in attending the trips are able to by securing partnerships that allow her to offer giveaways, like monthly national park passes, to low-income women of color.

"Being Black and being Indigenous, it's been such a journey to not only reclaim the land but solidifying my own roots," she says.
