Cruises from/to London, England
London, england cruise port.
As the saying goes, the sun never sets on the British Empire. While this is a bit outdated, Britain’s influence has been spread around the globe. When cruising to London you can learn about the traditions and customs that impacted areas like Hong Kong, Australia and the United States. London is filled with wonderful history of kings and queens, feuding politicians and the boom of the industrial revolution. Today, London remains a world capital that attracts a lot of attention. Especially with new attractions and intrigue into the most famous royals, including the new heir, Prince George. So succumb to full on anglophilia on a cruise to London, and follow our suggestions for a few memorable things to do:
- Britain’s royalty and religious identities are best represented at Westminster Abbey where kings and queens have been crowned, wed and buried for generations.
- See a cutting edge show at London’s West End. The British equivalent to Broadway, the West End offers amazing performances of classic shows and innovative new dramatic plays.
- English writers are some of the most lauded wits and scholars, including William Shakespeare, Jane Austen and George Orwell. Perhaps one of the most influential British authors was Charles Dickens. Visit his home to get a true sense into his process and work.
- Go for a ride on the London Eye for spectacular views. This 443-foot Ferris wheel offers special champagne rides at night, for all you romantics.
- Explore the Victoria and Albert Museum, which has all forms of arts and crafts. This includes fashion, paintings, furniture and sculpture.

WHATSINPORT.COM: YOUR CRUISE GUIDE TO 1200 PORTS OF CALL
Interactive world cruise map, home | cruise ships | port expenses | hints and tips, london city united kingdom cruise port guide.
The London Cruise Terminal at Tilbury is London's only deep water purpose-built cruise facility, situated at the gateway to London, just 22 nautical miles down river from Tower Bridge. Tilbury has become increasingly popular as a turnaround port for Baltic and Northern European destinations but it is also perfectly placed for transit calls to visit England's capital city, Kent and the south east.
The easiest way to reach London from the terminal is to take the train from Tilbury station (about a mile from the cruise terminal) into Fenchurch Street Station in central London. To the right there is a bustop visible as you exit the terminal. One is a double decker bus that takes you to the Tilbury Rail Station, cost is 1.50 pounds. The other is a single public bus also the same price that takes you into Tilbury town centre, where there is nothing of interest.

Sightseeing:
Just a few minutes walk from the London Cruise Terminal, Tilbury Fort is the finest and best preserved example of 17th century military engineering in England. Throughout the 18th and early 19th centuries, Tilbury and the batteries at Gravesend across the river, formed the first line of defence for the Thames and London. Today, exhibitions, the powder magazine and bunker-like 'casemates' demonstrate how the fort protected the city. There's even a chance to fire an anti-aircraft gun!
Tours Excursions Transportation:
London is a surprising compact city, making it a walker's delight and often being the quickest method of transport.
There are many Hop on/Hop off bus companies in London. Just take the most convenient one. Enjoy your trip around London on the top deck of one of the double decker buses. You almost get a birds eye view of London's famous attractions. You stop at over 80 places, so you can hop-off, explore, have lunch, then hop-on the next bus along. Your ticket is valid for 24 hours from the time that you first hop-on. The buses run from 10am until 6pm 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Free River Cruise included in the tour price.
Use Traveline for all your transportation needs, local and long distance.
Outside London, normal cars and minibuses can usually be licenced as taxis - it is up to the local council how they are distinguished, but they always carry additional plates, usually at the rear, giving details of their approval by the relevant local authority and number of passengers they can carry.
It pays to compare your cruise line tours here .
Nearby Places:
London is the capital and largest city of both the United Kingdom and of England, and the largest city in western Europe. Situated on the River Thames in South-East England, Greater London has an official population of roughly 7.5 million people - although the figure of over 14 million for the city's total metropolitan area more accurately reflects London's size and importance. London is historically one of the great, "world cities," and remains a global capital of culture, fashion, finance, politics and trade.
London Highlights
Piccadilly Circus A square buzzing with life and definitely the meeting point of this metropolis can be reached by underground, Piccadilly line.

Madame Tussauds An institution in its own right and a definite must when visiting London! Underground Station: Baker Street.
The Tate Modern This contemporary and hip gallery lies in the Borough of Southwark and is housed in a former power station. This location is the ideal venue to present modern and edgy art. Underground Station: St. Paul's and walk across the Millennium Bridge.

So it is also worth looking at other ideas on how to spend your day from the Southampton Cruise Terminal.

About the Southampton Cruise Terminal
Southampton Cruise Terminal is a big deal in the UK for cruises. It is the main gateway for ships going to Europe, the Caribbean, and beyond.
The Southampton Cruise Port is about 80 miles outside of London. It has a special connection to the Titanic, so it is worth checking out by itself.
The port has 5 different terminals, which we’ll be looking at in detail in a bit.
📍 Mayflower Cruise Terminal, Berth 106, Herbert Walker Avenue, Western Docks, Southampton, SO15 1HJ
It’s pretty modern and has a lot of amenities. If you’re looking for comfort, this is your spot.
Access to this terminal is via Dock Gate 10 (purple).
Lots of cruise lines like P&O Cruises and Cunard use it.
📍 Ocean Cruise Terminal, Berth 46/47, Eastern Docks, Southampton, SO14 3QN
The Ocean Terminal is super sleek and new. It’s got this cool glass design and even a rooftop lounge.
You can access it via Dock Gate 4 (blue).
If you’re into that Instagram-worthy aesthetic, you’ll love it here. It is mostly used by the Carnival Corporation.
📍 City Cruise Terminal, Berth 101, Solent Road, Western Docks, Southampton, SO15 1AJ
The city cruise terminal is all about convenience. It’s the closest to the city center.
It’s not as fancy as the others but gets the job done.
You access it via Dock Gate 10 (yellow).
It is mostly used by Royal Caribbean, MSC and NCL.
📍 QE2 Cruise Terminal, 38/39 Test Road, Eastern Docks, Southampton, SO14 3GG
It is often called the QEII. This one’s a bit older but still pretty chill.
Good for smaller ships and offers awesome views of the water.
You access it via Dock Gate 4 (red).
📍 Horizon Cruise Terminal, Berth 102, Herbert Walker Avenue, Western Docks, Southampton, SO15 1HJ
The Horizon (or Berth 102) Cruise Terminal is the newest terminal in Southampton.
It was constructed together by MSC Cruises and Norwegian Cruise Lines.
You can access it via Dock Gate 10 (orange).
When you arrive on a cruise ship at Southampton Cruise Terminal, you have quite a few choices on how to spend your day.
One day in a location is never enough to see all of it, so you might have to prioritize what you want to do.
Also depending on your mode of transportation, London is about 1,5 – 3 hours away from Southampton Cruise Port. That means you have to think carefully if it is worth it depending on your departure & arrival times.
If you only have a few hours in this port of call, you might be better off with a shore excursion in the area nearby.
Here are a couple of things you can choose from when planning your day:
- Booking a Shore Excursion
- Book a Private Transfer to London
- Self-Organized Day Trip to London
- Renting a Car and Exploring the Countryside
Do you need travel insurance in England? Yes, travel insurance in England is highly recommended. Avoid nasty surprises and travel worry-free with EKTA. EKTA offers worldwide travel insurance with 24/7 service and no hidden fees or restrictions.

Yes, it is absolutely worth going to London for 1 day! London’s rich history and vibrant culture offer a delightful day. Explore iconic landmarks like Big Ben, try local cuisine, and soak in the charming atmosphere. Perfect for a quick adventure!
One day in London gives a taste of London’s history and charm. You can see famous spots like Big Ben and enjoy local flavors. But to properly see the city and learn more about it, I would suggest going for at least three days to London.
In a day in London, catch Big Ben’s timeless beauty, stroll along the Thames by Tower Bridge, and visit the historic Tower of London. Dive into British history at the British Museum, and end with a classic ride on the London Eye for a panoramic city view. Book a traditional afternoon tea to get a great cultural experience.
Absolutely, you can stroll London in a day! Hit landmarks like Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, and the charming Covent Garden. Take in the Thames River, explore museums, and try typical eats. While a quick jaunt, it’s a taste of London’s charm. Just remember, more time unveils more treasures!

Israeli forces have killed 14 Palestinians during an extended raid in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian authorities, marking one of the heaviest casualty totals in the region for months.
The raid on the Nur Shams area, near the flashpoint city of Tulkarm, began early on Friday and continued yesterday.
Israeli military vehicles gathered and bursts of gunfire were heard, with at least three drones seen above Nur Shams, an area housing refugees and their descendants from the 1948 war that accompanied the creation of the state of Israel.
Palestinian health authorities said at least 14 Palestinians have been killed in the raid, two of whom were identified by officials as a gunman and a 16-year-old boy.
The Israeli military said a number of militants were killed or arrested during the raid, and at least four soldiers were wounded in exchanges of fire.
In a separate attack by Jewish settlers, the Palestinian health ministry says a 50-year-old ambulance driver was killed in Israeli gunfire near a village south of the city of Nablus, which is more than 20 miles east of Tulkarm.
He was said to be making his way to transport people injured in an attack on the village of al Sawiya, but it not clear if he was shot by settlers and the military has made no comment.

Earlier today people gathered near the remnants of an intercepted ballistic missile that fell near the Dead Sea in Israel.
The scenes come after Iran's drone and missile strike on Israel last week.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it was responding to an "attack on the consular section of the Iranian embassy in Damascus" on 1 April.
It is "forbidden to impose sanctions on the Israel Defence Forces", Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said.
In a statement on X, Mr Netanyahu said he had been "working against the imposition of sanctions on Israeli citizens".
"At a time when our soldiers are fighting the monsters of terror, the intention to impose a sanction on a unit in the IDF is the height of absurdity and a moral low," he said.
"The government headed by me will act by all means against these moves."
The comments come after US sources reportedly told American news website Axios that Washington was expected to sanction the IDF.
Israeli forces have killed 13 Palestinians since beginning a raid on Tulkarm city and Nur Shams refugee camp in the West Bank, the Palestinian health ministry has said in an update this evening.
Earlier, the IDF said its forces killed 10 militants in the camp and the surrounding areas since it began its raid (see post at 3pm).
In a statement, it said the Israeli army and the country's border police arrested eight Palestinian suspects from the area.
Israel's foreign affairs minister Israel Katz has said the US aid vote today proved "the strong ties and strategic partnership between Israel and the US" and "sends a strong message to our enemies".
Below is what Mr Katz said on X...
We have been reporting today on an Israeli airstrike on a house in Gaza's southernmost city, which killed at least nine people, six of them children.
The strike late on Friday hit a residential building in the western Tel Sultan neighbourhood of the city of Rafah, according to Gaza's civil defence.
The bodies of the six children, two women and a man were taken to Rafah's Abu Yousef al-Najjar hospital, the hospital's records showed.
Rafah, which lies on the border with Egypt, currently hosts more than half of Gaza's total population of about 2.3 million people, the vast majority of whom have been displaced by fighting further north in the territory.
Despite calls for restraint from the international community, including Israel's staunchest ally, the US, the Israeli government has said it intends to push a ground offensive into the city, where it says many of the remaining Hamas militants are holed up.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has thanked the US Congress for passing its aid bill for Israel.
"Thank you friends, thank you America," he said.
The US House pushed swiftly through a series of votes today in a rare Saturday session to approve $95bn in foreign aid for Ukraine, Israel and other US allies.
The US House of Representatives has approved a $26bn package aiding Israel and providing humanitarian relief to people in Gaza.
The package will now go to the US Senate, where it is likely to be passed on Tuesday.
Congress has also approved sending $60.8bn in foreign aid to Ukraine.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guard seizes Israeli-linked container ship near Strait of Hormuz

Commandos from Iran’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard rappelled down from a helicopter onto an Israeli-affiliated container ship near the Strait of Hormuz and seized the vessel Saturday, the latest in a series of attacks between the two countries.
The Middle East had braced for potential Iranian retaliation over a suspected Israeli strike earlier this month on an Iranian consular building in Syria that killed 12 people, including a senior Guard general who once commanded its expeditionary Quds Force there.
The Israeli war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip meanwhile is now 6 months old and is inflaming decades-old tensions across the whole region. With Iranian-backed forces like Hezbollah in Lebanon and Yemen’s Houthi rebels also involved in the fighting, any new attack in the Mideast threatens to escalate that conflict into a wider regional war.
Iran’s state-run IRNA said a special forces unit of the Guard’s navy carried out the attack on the vessel, the Portuguese-flagged MSC Aries, a container ship associated with London-based Zodiac Maritime.
Zodiac Maritime is part of Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer’s Zodiac Group. Zodiac declined to comment and referred questions to MSC. Geneva-based MSC later acknowledged the seizure and said 25 crew had been aboard the vessel. IRNA said the Guard would take the vessel into Iranian territorial waters.
U.S. bracing for potential Iranian response to attack attributed to Israel
U.S. officials say Iran appears to be lining up a series of potential retaliations against Israel.
April 12, 2024
Earlier, a Middle East defense official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters, shared a video of the attack with the Associated Press. In it, the Iranian commandos are seen rappelling onto a stack of containers on the deck of the vessel.
A crew member on the ship can be heard saying: “Don’t come out.” He then tells his colleagues to go to the ship’s bridge as more commandos come down on the deck. One commando can be seen kneeling above the others to provide them potential covering fire.
The video corresponded with known details of the MSC Aries. The helicopter used also appeared to be a Soviet-era Mil Mi-17 helicopter, which both the Guard and the Houthis of Yemen have used in the past to conduct commando raids on ships.

Israeli airstrike demolishes Iranian Consulate in Syria, kills two Iranian generals
Syrian media say an Israeli airstrike destroyed the Iranian Consulate, an apparent escalation against military officials from Iran, which provides support to Hamas.
April 1, 2024
The British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations described the vessel as being “seized by regional authorities” in the Gulf of Oman off the Emirati port city of Fujairah, without elaborating.
The MSC Aries had been last located off Dubai heading toward the Strait of Hormuz on Friday. The ship had turned off its tracking data, which has been common for Israeli-affiliated ships moving through the region.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz called on nations to list the Guard as a terrorist organization.
Iran “is a criminal regime that supports Hamas’ crimes and is now conducting a pirate operation in violation of international law,” Katz said.
For days, Iranian officials including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei have been threatening to “slap” Israel for the Syria strike .
Israel has been preparing for the possibility of a direct attack from Iran and is ready “for any scenario,” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Saturday.
“Whoever strikes us, we will strike them. We will defend ourselves against every threat and we will do this calmly and with determination,” he said.
The U.S., Israel’s main backer, has stood by the country despite growing concerns over Israel’s war on Gaza killing more than 33,600 Palestinians and wounding more than 76,200 others. Israel’s war began after Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel that killed about 1,200 people and saw some 250 others taken hostage.
The Pentagon said Saturday that Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin IIIs poke with his Israeli counterpart “and made clear that Israel could count on full U.S. support to defend Israel against any attacks by Iran and its regional proxies.”
Iran since 2019 has engaged in a series of ship seizures and attacks on vessels have been attributed to it amid ongoing tensions with the West over its rapidly advancing nuclear program.
Since November, Iran had dialed back its ship attacks as the Houthis targeted ships in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea. Houthi attacks have slowed in recent weeks as the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan ended and the rebels have faced months of U.S.-led airstrikes targeting them.
Jordanians protest nightly against peace deal with Israel amid anger over Gaza war
Outraged over the war in Gaza, protesters gather every night near the Israeli Embassy in Jordan’s capital to demand an end to peace agreements with Israel.

In previous seizures, Iran has offered initial explanations about their operations to make it seem like the attacks had nothing to do with the wider geopolitical tensions — though later acknowledging as much. In Saturday’s attack, however, Iran offered no explanation for the seizure other than to say the MSC Aries had links to Israel.
However, Iran in the past largely has avoided directly attacking Israel, despite it carrying out the targeted killing of nuclear scientists and multiple sabotage campaigns against Iran’s atomic sites. Iran has however targeted Israeli or Jewish-linked sites through proxy forces over the decades.
Earlier this week, Guard Gen. Ali Reza Tangsiri, who oversees Iran’s naval forces, criticized the presence of Israelis in the region and in the United Arab Emirates. The UAE reached a diplomatic recognition deal with Israel in 2020, something that long has enraged Tehran.
“We know that bringing Zionists in this point is not merely for economic work,” Tangsiri reportedly said. “Now, they are carrying out security and military jobs, indeed. This is a threat, and this should not happen.”

The Gulf of Oman is near the Strait of Hormuz, the narrow mouth of the Persian Gulf through which a fifth of all globally traded oil passes. Fujairah, on the United Arab Emirates’ eastern coast, is a main port in the region for ships to take on new oil cargo, pick up supplies or trade out crew.
Meanwhile, Lufthansa Group said on Saturday it had extended the suspension of its flights between Frankfurt and Tehran through Thursday and said its planes would avoid Iranian airspace in that period. The German carrier also said that, until at least Tuesday, flights to and from Amman will be operated as “day flights” so crews can return to Frankfurt without spending a night in the Jordanian capital .
Dutch airline KLM said in a statement Saturday that it will no longer fly over Iran or Israel, but will continue flights to and from Tel Aviv.
Gambrell writes for the Associated Press. AP writers Nasser Karimi in Tehran, Stephen Graham in Berlin and Thomas Adamson in Paris contributed to this report.
