How to surf the web on Apple TV

Karen Haslam

For reasons best known to Apple, there is no web browser available on the Apple TV. Despite the fact that the Apple TV runs a version of iOS there is not a version of Safari designed for Apple TV and there is no substitute web browser available in the TV App Store.

But before you drown in disappointment, there are a few ways in which you can surf the web on your Apple TV. Read on to find out how.

We’ll look at three ways in which you can access your favourite websites on your TV screen, including popular TV Catchup channels, FaceBook, Google’s search engine and more. Read about how to watch OnDemand TV channels on Apple TV here .

Method 1: Surf the web on your Apple TV using AirPlay

This is the easiest way to surf the web on the Apple TV. It’s ideal if you want to share the surfing experience with friends and family who are in the room with you, or if what you are looking at on the web would benefit from a bigger screen.

Using Apple’s AirPlay you can stream the screen of your iPhone or your Mac to your TV screen.

Pros: You can see everything that you see on your iPhone or Mac on the TV screen.

Cons: You might as well be looking at your iPhone or Mac screen, and when it comes to scrolling and typing you will be. You won’t be able to use your iPhone for anything else while you are mirroring it’s screen on the TV.

How to view your iPhone screen on your TV

  • Swipe up from the bottom of your iPhone to view Control Centre.
  • Tap on Screen Mirroring
Choose your Apple TV.
  • You may be required to enter an AirPlay code for the Apple TV you are connecting too. This code will appear on the TV Screen attached to the Apple TV.
  • Navigate to Safari on your iPhone and surf the web.
  • If you rotate our iPhone into landscape you should be able to view the web using the full screen of your TV (some apps, like Facebook won’t rotate).

How to view the screen of your Mac on your TV

  • Click on the AirPlay icon from the menu bar at the top of the screen (a triangle pointing into a box)
  • Choose your Apple TV from the options
  • Your Mac display may alter so that it is optimised for the Apple TV (this made everything smaller on our MacBook screen) .
  • There are a few different ways you can set up AirPlay on your Mac and TV screen. You could mirror the Mac screen on the TV, in which case you will see everything on your Mac duplicated over on the TV.
  • However, if you want to surf on your TV screen, while leaving your Mac free to do something else, you can change the arrangement of your screens – this would be ideal if you wanted to stream video to your TV while typing into a Pages document on your Mac at the same time.
  • Open System Preferences > Display and click on Arrangement

does apple tv have google or safari

  • Now based on how you arrange the screens you can drag your Safari (or other browser) window over to the Apple TV screen. To figure our which display is which in the illustration under the Arrangement tab click on the screen and you will see a red outline on the one that represents the Apple TV. Drag in that direction and the browser will appear on your TV screen.
  • You can now use your mouse, or trackpad to scroll around the browser on your TV screen.
  • We find it preferable to use a separate keyboard and mouse because they feel less connected to your Mac and therefore you feel more like you are surfing the web on the TV. Even better if you have a wireless mouse and keyboard. One reason why this feels more natural is that you don’t need to look at your Mac at all while surfing.
  • Remember that you won’t be able to continue using your Mac while someone else surfs the web on the TV screen (or rather you can, but there will be a battle over the mouse and keyboard). It’s the perfect set up for showing video on the TV screen – perhaps something on All4 or another Catch Up TV channel – while using your Mac for something else.

Read more about using AirPlay to stream from your Mac to TV here .

Method 2 – Surf the web using AirBrowser on your iPhone

One issue with surfing the web on your TV screen via your iPhone and AirPlay is the fact that you have to scroll and swipe around on your iPhone so you might as well be doing your surfing on that device rather than the TV. As we said earlier, it’s ideal if you want other people in the room to see what you are looking at, but otherwise, we’re not sure what you really gain.

Here’s where AirBrowser comes in.

Pros: AirBrowser puts a web browser on your TV screen while reserving the iPhone for controls and a keypad. You get a full desktop view of the web pages.

Cons: Not all elements of web pages worked in AirBrowser. Some forms were difficult to fill in if they used multiple choice. It costs £5.

AirBrowser places controls for browsing the web on your iPhone – so you can swipe around the page, or type using the iPhone keyboard, but the actual web page appears on the TV screen.

  • Download AirBrowser from the App Store on your iPhone (it costs £4.99)
  • Open the AirBrowser app.
  • You will be asked to Connect Second Screen, the animation shows you how, except the animation shows how it worked in iOS 10, rather than iOS 11.
  • Swipe up on Control Panel and choose Screen Mirroring.
  • Choose your Apple TV.
  • Now you should see a browser on the TV screen and a url bar on the iPhone. Tap on the URL bar and enter the name of the site you wish to visit, or a search phrase.
  • On the TV screen you will either see the website you wished to visit or the results of your Google search.
  • To scroll down the page swipe upwards with two fingers.
  • To click on a link use one finger to track to the link and tap.
  • To go back to the previous page tap on the back arrow at the top of the iPhone interface.
  • To view all the tabs you have open tap on the central icon that shows 9 dots.
  • You can view the site as it would appear on desktop or mobile by swiping between the two options at the bottom of the page.

We did encounter a few difficulties using AirBrowser. For example when it came to signing in to use services sometimes we weren’t able to because where a site used a multiple choice selection tool for, say, your date of birth or title, it wasn’t possible to select an option.

At other times we found that we couldn’t play video because it was in Flash. The browser seems to fool the site into thinking it’s a Mac, but of course your TV and your iPhone can’t download Flash so you can’t view the content.

does apple tv have google or safari

Another issue we had was when viewing iTV player. We were able to get it to play the content but we weren’t able to select full screen view in order for the video player to fill the TV screen. Instead we were able to increase page size by zooming in (pinch to zoom). We had more success with iTV player than any of the other TV services. On my5 we got a video playback errors.

Method 3 – Using tvOSBrowser to surf the web on your Apple TV

This one is a little more complicated to set up, but essentially gives you a web browser on your Apple TV. You’ll need an Apple Developer account (which is free), Xcode and a USB-C cable or an adapter. If that doesn’t sound like you it probably won’t be worth you reading any further.

Pros: This is the closest you will get to an web browser app for the Apple TV.

Cons: It’s not easy to install and probably isn’t worth the effort.

Of course if you like tinkering with things like this, then go ahead. This would probably interest you too: How to jailbreak an Apple TV.

  • We’ll assume you have a developer account. If not you need to set one up here developer.apple.com/account.
  • Download Xcode from the Mac App Store.
  • Get a USB-A to USB-C cable.
  • Download the source code to tvOSBrowser using Xcode (you can get it from here https://github.com/steventroughtonsmith/tvOSBrowser)
  • This is where it all gets a little complicated. You have to remove some code in order to get the tvOSBrowser to work. We suggest you read this tutorial here .

How to install a web browser on Apple TV

Learn how to install a web browser on Apple TV to get even more functionality from your device.

How to install a web browser on Apple TV: image shows Apple TV

If you'd like to know how to install a web browser on Apple TV, then this article is for you. Apple TV is an ideal device for watching some of the most compelling TV currently being produced, with millions of movies and TV episodes to stream on your devices. However, when it comes to web browsing functionality, it's pretty limited.

Despite being one of the best TV streaming services , Apple removed Safari support after the 3rd generation of Apple TV meaning you can't install a web browser on the latest Apple TVs. However, there are some ways of still browsing the internet on your Apple TV and therefore the big screen of your TV. It might not rival the experience found on the best web browsers , but it can still add a little more versatility to your Apple TV. Here's how to do so.

How to use a web browser on Apple TV using AirPlay

The most effective way of viewing a web browser through your Apple TV is to use AirPlay. AirPlay is Apple's feature that makes it easy to stream many forms of media from your iPhone or iPad. By doing so, you can basically mirror what's on that screen and display it on your Apple TV. Here's how to do it:

  • Make sure that your devices are all connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
  • On your iPhone or iPad, open the Control Center by swiping down from the upper-right corner of the screen. With older devices such as the iPhone 8 or earlier, you need to swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen.
  • Tap the Screen Mirroring icon.
  • Select your Apple TV from the list of devices.
  • If an AirPlay passcode appears on your TV screen, enter the passcode on your iPhone or iPad.
  • From there, everything you do on your iPhone or iPad is displayed on your TV via your Apple TV. You can browse the internet through Safari on your mobile device while viewing it on the bigger screen of the Apple TV.
  • Any time you want to stop mirroring, simply reopen the Control Center, tap Screen Mirroring again but this time, tap Stop Mirroring. It's also possible to stop it at the Apple TV by pressing the Menu button.

By using AirPlay, you get the same experience as if you were browsing the web with your iPhone or iPad. That means you can type in web addresses or search for things by using the onscreen keyboard on either device, which is far easier than typing anything in using the Apple TV remote.

How to use a web browser on Apple TV using a third-party app

It's also possible to 'cast' websites to your Apple TV using a third-party app. Apps like AirBrowser cost money but are easily available through the App Store. By using it, you can often browse websites that AirPlay is not compatible with, giving you more functionality. That's because it's able to get around any issues with streaming for copyright reasons -- something that isn't really a legal issue if you are streaming from one device to another in the same room or building.

For many users though, AirPlay is an easier and cheaper solution. If you do want to use AirBrowser, here's how to use it:

  • Open the AirBrowser app and click Connect Second Screen.
  • Follow the instructions and click Screen Mirroring in the Control Center.
  • Choose your Apple TV device.
  • Browse on your iPad or iPhone as normal and view the content on your Apple TV.

How to use a web browser on Apple TV using your Mac

It's also possible to stream the activities of your Mac over to your Apple TV. It follows a fairly similar process to using your iPhone or iPad, but is slightly different. Here's what to do:

Sign up to receive the latest news, reviews, buying guides and deals direct to your inbox

  • On your Mac, click the Control Center icon next to the time on your menu bar.
  • Click Screen Mirroring.
  • Wait for your Mac to find the devices available.
  • Click the Apple TV name.
  • You may need to enter an AirPlay code to confirm that the correct devices are working together.
  • You can now use the web browser on your Mac while viewing the content on your Apple TV, giving you a larger view of what is unfolding.

Will there ever be an official Apple TV web browser?

Since Apple removed Safari from a much earlier version of Apple TV, it seems fairly unlikely that we'll see an official web browser again. Much of that is because it would be tricky to use.

While the Apple TV remote is fine for browsing content, it generally defaults to encouraging you to use your iPhone or iPad to enter any long strings of characters, ruining the point of using the Apple TV alone.

Ultimately, your best web browser on Apple TV experience is to use AirPlay or similar so you can browse the internet on your TV display while enjoying the convenience of typing on your iPhone, iPad or Mac.

Apple TV is one of the best media players out there with support for many games. However, Apple stripped off the support for Safari after Apple TV’s 3rd generation. Hence, you can’t install a web browser in the later updates.

While you can surf the web via AirPlay using your other Apple devices, not all websites and streaming apps support it. But there’s a way out! Thanks to ‘ jvanakker ‘ for developing a third-party web browser, you can still install a browser on your Apple TV. Let’s understand how to do it.

Note: Installing the tvOS browser on your Apple TV won’t void its warranty. However, it might require installing it (from scratch) from time to time due to Apple’s third-party developer policies.

Requirements to browse the web on Apple TV

Here are a few things you’ll need.

  • A Mac and a USB-C to USB-C cable.
  • An Apple Developer account. You can sign up for a free Apple Developer account on developer.apple.com/account .
  • Xcode on your Mac.

After you’ve downloaded and installed Xcode on your Mac, you’re ready to install the tvOS browser on your Apple TV.

  • Install Xcode from Mac’s App Store. Note : The setup file is around 5GB.
  • Now, connect your Apple TV to your Mac via the USB-C cable and open Xcode.
  • Visit github.com/jvanakker/tvOSBrowser on your Mac.

Open Xcode to download tvOS browser on Apple TV

  • Unzip the file on your Mac.

Open the Browser.xcodeproj file on Mac

  • A screen similar to this would appear. Now, change the Deployment Target to 14.0 .

Set custom Bundle Identifier name on Mac

  • From the top-down menu, select your Apple TV as the Target Device, and click the ▶ button.

Wait for the process to finish. Now you have for yourself an Apple TV running a custom version of Apple’s Safari web browser.

How to use web browser on Apple TV

The developer hasn’t updated the app for the latest Apple TV 4K with Siri Remote. So, there’s no way to use the ‘swivel’ control on this version of the tvOS browser. We’ll update this article when a new version for the latest Apple TV 4K is released. Though you can still use this version using the click buttons.

There are two modes with which you can control the browser. Double press the center of the touch area (center button in the newer version) to switch between scroll and cursor mode. A single tap on the touch area would reveal the Quick Menu in which you can input URLs, search Google, reload the page, or navigate back .

Double tapping the center area would reveal an advanced section wherein you can see your history, open favorite websites, clear cookies, and more. Remember to clear the tvOS browser’s cache from time to time to prevent it from slowing down.

Other alternatives for surfing the web on Apple TV

If you don’t happen to have a Mac or are just unable to install Safari on your Apple TV, you can use the alternatives mentioned below. Using these will skip the fussy steps required and save you some time.

1. Use AirPlay

More often than not, the streaming website that you’re trying to cast to your Apple TV support Apple’s AirPlay. Check our guide on how to use AirPlay to cast videos to Apple TV from iPhone, iPad, and Mac .

2. Surf web on Apple TV via third-party applications

If you cannot AirPlay the content to your Apple TV, you can stream videos to your Apple TV via third-party apps on your phone. AirBrowser is one such app that allows you to cast websites to Apple TV.

Download the AirBrowser app from iOS App Store (it costs $4.99), click screen mirroring, and choose your Apple TV. You’ll now be able to cast almost any content from any website in the world.

3. Connect your laptop directly via HDMI

Last but not least, you can directly connect your Mac to your TV by using the HDMI cable and then streaming the content as you usually would. If your Mac doesn’t happen to have an HDMI port, check out some of the best USB-C to HDMI adapters for your Mac .

Smart TVs are very popular and pretty much every home will have one somewhere in the house. Apple TV is not a Smart TV, but it can turn an older TV into a Smart TV.

Apple TV is a digital media player that enables you to cast content on your TV. It is a very popular video streaming platform,

The AppleTV device comes with many apps and features, notably being able to browse the web – but it may not seem as apparent as you think, normally you think of a web browser but there is more to it than that…

How To Use Web Browsers For Apple TV

In this article, we will be exploring how you can browse the web with your Apple TV, just as if you were using an Apple TV web browser, and understand the differences compared to other smart TV platforms and why there isn’t specifically a web browser for Apple TV.

No, there is no web browser on Apple TV. You cannot use Safari on the Apple TV or Google Chrome because there isn’t one available on the device. You simply cannot install one at all.

But do not panic! I wouldn’t have done this article if there weren’t other methods to surf the net, would I?

Even if there’s no browser, you can use IPTV apps on Apple TV .

No, unfortunately, Safari web browser doesn’t come installed on Apple TV and there’s no easy way to install it. The easiest way to get Safari on your Apple TV is by using Airplay to cast the screen from an Apple device such as an iPhone, iPad, or any Apple computer.

If you are a tech person and want to play a bit with the code, there’s a way to actually install Safari on your Apple TV, however, it won’t be for everybody!

Because Apple TV is just not designed to work with a browser. The device could run a web browser but Apple wants users to utilize their phones to connect and cast/stream content to the device itself.

Therefore, we can say that there are 2 main reasons:

It is just not convenient to browse the web via a web browser on your TV. The remote is not intuitive and it is hard to navigate with it, so the next best thing is to use your phone as the remote and the Apple TV as the display.

You can cast the web browser of your phone on your AppleTV. A browser is not made available because you can use your phone to Google things and then cast that content to the device through the Apple Mirroring feature – something which we will learn about later in this article.

So the whole idea is to use your phone as the remote and you can pick and choose content to cast to your Apple TV device. It is clear that Apple wants you to use the native apps that come with the device itself.

So, we now understand there isn’t an actual web browser for Apple TV and we understand why Apple wants users to get a better experience by using the apps provided to them and focusing on users utilizing their phones for easier navigation.

So with all this knowledge, let’s go through some of the ways you can cast/stream content to your Apple TV device as if you were using an Apple TV web browser.

1. Native Apple AirPlay

Use Native Apple AirPlay To Use A Web Browser On Apple TV

Airplay is not a web browser and it is not an App that you can download, it is called Apple AirPlay – some of the examples we will be showing, later on, are basically using this feature in the background.

AirPlay is just Apple’s native casting/streaming feature you can use within apps such as YouTube or Netflix etc. You just have to find the AirPlay icon and then select your Apple TV and cast content in a few taps, easy as that.

How To Use AirPlay With Your Apple TV

Here are the simple steps you need to follow to start using AirPlay with your Apple TV via an iOS device:

Connect your iOS device to the same WiFi network . Both your iPhone or iPad etc. need to be connected to the same network as the Apple TV.

Find a video or web page you want to cast . Then look out for the AirPlay icon and tap it.

Tap the AirPlay button . Then you will see a menu that shows your compatible casting devices, hopefully, your Apple TV.

Choose your Apple TV and cast . Your Apple TV should show up in the list of compatible streaming devices, find the correct name like “Living room TV” and select it.

How To Use Airplay To Use Web Browser on Apple TV

Look out for the AirPlay icon above in the apps on your iOS device, you can cast from many different apps like your Photos, the web browsers, YouTube and other streaming services, etc.

By the way, if you are not a fan of Safari, check out what are the best web browsers for iPhone so you can stream your content in the best way.

2. AirBrowser

AirBrowser - A Great Way To Use A Web Browser On Apple TV

A fast and efficient way to use your iPhone or iPad to wirelessly connect to your Apple TV.

As with the other options, this one has a free trial so you can see how it works before you buy it. It has support for gesture control, pinch, and zoom and you can easily do common things like bookmarking and have multiple tabs open.

The touch on your iOS device can act as a pointer on the Apple TV and it will be just as if you were using an Apple TV web browser.

If you have a Mac, it’s probably time to improve your setup! After seeing these beautiful Mac Setups you will for sure start changing yours.

3. Web For Apple TV App

Web For Apple TV - App for Apple TV To Use Web Browser

This iOS app is also installed onto your Apple device like an iPhone or iPad and turns your phone into a fancy smart controller for your Apple TV.

Another app that lets you take over your TV, this one has more advanced gesture control and better support for the iPad.

With this app, it is easy to cast videos and web pages onto the big screen and use your phone as if it were a web browser for Apple TV.

AirWeb - A way to cast a web browser to Apple TV

An app that you can install from the Apple app store on your iPhone or iPad device.

You can use AirWeb for a smooth and frustration-free experience on the web via your Apple TV.

AirWeb will allow you to use your iPhone as the remote control and cast the browser to your Apple TV. As long as your Apple device supports AirPlay Mirroring, then you will have no problems using this app. Turning your TV into a web browser for Apple TV from your phone.

5. HDMI cable to mirror the screen

If you don’t mind using a cable or need faster response times, using the good old HDMI cable is still a way to get Safari (or any other web browser) into your TV without the need for the Apple TV.

In fact, it’s a way not only to get a web browser on your TV but also to mirror anything else you want from your device. From a movie to photos, email, etc. It will duplicate the screen of your device and show it on the TV.

Ideal when casting heavy files such as movies, where the WIFI connection might have trouble transmitting so much data in real-time.

If your external device doesn’t come with an HDMI connection, you can use USB-C to HDMI adapters.

6. Installing tvOSBrowser – An Open Sourced Project

tvOSBrowser - An alternative web browser for your Apple TV

Last but not least, if you are techy or brave enough to get into the dark waters of XCode, then you can give it a try to tvOSBrowser .

tvOSBrowser is an open-source project that allows you to run a basic web browser (using UIWebView) on your Apple TV.

You’ll have to run the project on your Mac and then stream it to your Apple TV (with or without cable), so it’s definitely not the best of the options, but it’s something to consider.

No. The official Google Chrome web browser cannot be used as an Apple TV web browser. This is because Apple does not want its users to install a web browser, the whole idea is to use the built-in casting features via AirPlay.

However, Google Chrome has its own Google Chromecast device which can be used to cast content to your TV and even use your big screen like an Apple TV web browser. You can cast from the Chrome web browser via your phone or computer.

The Chrome web browser has built-in support to cast content directly from a supporting device to the Apple TV.

If you want to cast content from your Mac computer, you might want to check the best web browsers for Mac .

At first, it may seem very confusing or weird as to why the Apple TV doesn’t have an official Apple TV web browser but once you understand the reason, it all makes sense.

A web browser is useful on the TV but the traditional TV remote is not intuitive and easy to navigate with, hence why Apple has refused to include an Apple TV web browser support and instead, focus on their AirPlay casting feature.

So, I hope this article clears up all the confusion and sets you in the right place with the 4 different methods you have, one of them should fit your needs.

How to browse the Web on Apple TV

The newest Apple TV doesn't come with any official options for a Web browser, but this quick hack will let you do some casual browsing from your couch.

does apple tv have google or safari

The fourth-generation Apple TV comes with several new tricks that the older models are not privy to, such as Siri support and third-party apps and games. One feature missing, however, is the ability to browse the Web.

Despite tvOS being based heavily on iOS, the Safari browser has been stripped from the Apple TV, meaning the only browsing you will be doing is via mirroring with AirPlay from your other Apple devices.

With a simple hack, however, you will be browsing the Web with your Apple TV in a matter of minutes. Here's how it's done.

What you will need

You will need a couple of things before you get started, such as a free Apple Developer account, Xcode and a USB-C cable or an adapter.

If you don't already have a developer account with Apple, head over to developer.apple.com/account and sign in using your existing Apple ID.

Next, from your Mac, open the App Store, search for "Xcode" and download the application. It will automatically install.

If you happen to have a 12-inch MacBook , the included USB-C cable will work for this application. Otherwise, you will need a USB-A to USB-C cable, which you can find online for around $10. Just be careful of which one you buy (and reference this spreadsheet to see which ones are up to spec.)

Finally, you will need the source code to tvOSBrowser , which we will download from the GitHub repository using Xcode.

Installing the browser

Begin by opening the Applications folder in Finder and locating the Xcode.app. Right click on the application and select Show Package Contents . From there, navigate to Contents>Developer>Platforms>AppleTVOS.platform>Developer>SDKs>AppleTVOS.sdk>usr>include and locate the file Availability.h . Right click on the file and open in TextEdit or another text editor.

Locate these two lines of code, which can be found on lines 279 and 280:

  • #define __TVOS_UNAVAILABLE __OS_AVAILABILITY(tvos,unavailable)
  • #define __TVOS_PROHIBITED __OS_AVAILABILITY(tvos,unavailable)

Change them to:

  • #define __TVOS_UNAVAILABLE_NOTQUITE __OS_AVAILABILITY(tvos,unavailable)
  • #define __TVOS_PROHIBITED_NOTQUITE __OS_AVAILABILITY(tvos,unavailable)

Save the file and open Xcode. Ignore the window that loads and click on Source Control in the menu bar, then select Check Out . In the repository location field, paste "https://github.com/steventroughtonsmith/tvOSBrowser.git" and click Next . When asked, select the master branch of the repository and proceed.

safari-for-apple-tv-bundle-identifier.png

In the left pane of Xcode, click on the Browser app you just imported. You will need to alter the Bundle Identifier . By default, it is com.highcaffeinecontent.Browser . Change it to something unique like: com.[nickname].Browser . Just ensure there are no spaces in the identifier.

At the top of the Xcode window, you will see Play and Stop buttons. Beside that are two menu buttons, one is the name of the app (in this case, Browser) and the other is the output source for where you will be executing the code. By default, if no Apple TV is detected, Xcode will run an Apple TV simulator upon executing the code. To ensure, you're pushing the code to the Apple TV, click on the button to the right and make sure Apple TV under Devices is selected, not Apple TV 1080p under tvOS Simulator .

Once the code finishes executing, you should see an app on your Apple TV called Safari. Click on it to open.

Using the browser on Apple TV

The Safari browser on Apple TV is relatively intuitive and simple to use.

Depending on which mode you're in sliding your finger around on the Apple TV remote's trackpad will move the cursor or scroll up and down the page. To switch between the modes, double-click the trackpad.

Clicking the trackpad does exactly what you would expect it to -- it clicks and will open links or select on-screen content. The Menu button operates as a back button. Double-clicking the Menu button will load a Settings menu, where you can change the homepage, view history and more. And pressing the Play/Pause button brings up an address and search bar, which uses Google as the default search engine.

The developer hasn't updated the source code in several months, and as such this is a very basic browser. It's missing some features you may find necessary from a computer or mobile device, but should suffice for basic needs of browsing via Apple TV.

How to browse the web on your Apple TV with AirWeb

does apple tv have google or safari

Apple doesn't offer their Safari web browser on the Apple TV . However, if you have an iPhone or iPad with AirPlay ad the AirWeb app from the App Store you can easily and conveniently beam an optimized web browser right to your Apple TV. What's more, it's by far one of the best ways I've found to browse the internet on a television.

Note that AirWeb is compatible with the iPhone 4s and above as well as the iPad 2 and above. You can use the iPhone 4 but it isn't pretty and you'll need an additional cable attachment.

  • $1.99 - Download Now

Once you've gotten AirWeb installed on your iPhone or iPad, it will take you through a bunch of prompts that show you how to set up and use it. If you already know how to use AirPlay mirroring you should b good to go.

does apple tv have google or safari

In order to navigate AirWeb, tap on the question mark in the lower left corner of the control screen to view all the shortcuts. For starters, just tap in the address bar at the top and go to a website. From there you can poke around, open a new tab, and more.

When it comes to scrolling, AirWeb supports to main forms, the first being to scroll with two fingers. In my experience I've found this to be a little awkward on the iPhone. It works perfectly find on the iPad however. I much prefer the second method which is to long press on the screen and tilt your iPhone or iPad up and down to scroll. I find this to be more natural and much easier to do without paying attention to the device in your hand.

If you quit AirWeb or disable mirroring, the in-app browser or AirWeb should save all your tabs so next time you mirror, everything is right where you left it. You can also add bookmarks for fast access to your favorite sites right within AirWeb.

I've found AirWeb to be great for times when I'm showing someone something and we don't all want to crouch around my iPad. Or times when I just want to lounge around in the living room and don't have my iPad handy. I just beam my content right to the big screen from my iPhone with AirWeb.

Apple TV vs. Google TV: How do they differ?

Nick Mokey

While Apple TV has kicked around in various iterations since 2007 and Google TV hasn’t even hit the market officially, enquiring TV addicts want to know: Which will you be kicking back and watching this fall? In truth, despite the similar names and cutthroat competitors, they’re two different beasts entirely. Here’s how Google TV is different from Apple TV.

Apple TV is one box, Google TV is an ecosystem.

Google and Apple have both carried their smartphone strategies directly over to the television: Apple won’t let anybody else touch its proprietary Apple TV interface, and Google wants to staple Google TV onto as many boxes as it can. Google TV will be built right in to new TVs from Sony, available on separate set-top boxes from Logitech, and those are just launch partners, with many more to come. Just as it does with smartphones, this rainbow of vendors will translate to more choice for Google TV users, while Apple TV users have one box to do it all. Need composite video outputs, 1080p decoding or some other, yet unknown feature on Apple TV? Tough luck, wait for next year. Need it on Google TV? Just wait for some manufacturer to pump out a deluxe box.

  • How much is Apple TV+?
  • A $20 Chromecast with Google TV is perfect for this one reason
  • You Asked: QLED and mini-LED burn-in, missing HDR, and Apple TV and HDMI 2.1

Google TV has more power.

Apple recently redesigned the Apple TV to run on the same A4 processor powering the iPhone and iPad. Essentially, it’s a smartphone, without a screen, in a box. While that will make it a quiet, ultra-efficient power miser, it doesn’t leave much headroom for upgrades, either. By contrast, Google TV will run on Intel’s Atom processor – the same chip powering virtually every netbook on the market. Besides giving it the additional horsepower to pump up full 1080p video, rather than 720p as the Apple TV caps out at, it should leave room for additional upgrades, and maybe even the possibility of hacking hardware to run other desktop software. MythTV or Boxee, anyone?

Apple TV acts as a storefront.

Apple makes a killing off of iTunes. Conveniently, Apple TV conveniently plants a storefront for iTunes in the middle of your living room, allowing you to buy Apple content from Apple. Besides the existing option to purchase both TV shows and movies through iTunes, Apple has also introduced 99-cent TV show rentals with the latest iteration. Google, meanwhile, has said nothing of opening a store for content. Every source will either come for free through the Web, from a cable box, or third-party providers. This might make the selection of popular shows smaller out of the box, but we wouldn’t be surprised to see providers like Amazon on Demand, Vudu and Hulu Plus lining up to hop aboard Google TV, broadening its appeal past what Apple alone can deliver.

Google TV has a Web browser.

Not everything you want to put on the big screen comes wrapped up as a movie. Sometimes, you want to show off photos from a Picasa gallery. Sometimes, you want to give directions to a friend on Google Maps. Sometimes, you just want to read your favorite site without squinting. Google TV will integrate a browser based on Chrome to do all the above – plus play all of your favorite Web-based videos. Apple only offers YouTube and Flickr.

Google TV has apps.

Ironically, Apple TV lacks the holy grail of expandability that rocketed the iPhone to success, while Google managed to cram it in. Google TV runs on Android, and it will run Android apps . Details remain somewhat scarce on Google TV’s app support, but Google claims that existing Android apps should eventually be able to run on Google TV, as long as they don’t use smartphone-only features (a labyrinth game that relies on tilt sensors, for instance, wouldn’t make much sense on your TV). More importantly, developers will be able to code Google TV specific apps after an SDK comes out, so anything a developer dreams up should – theoretically – become possible.

Google TV works with cable boxes.

Sure, we cut the cable and never looked back a long time ago. But the fact remains: Many casual TV watchers remain roped into existing cable service, and there are buckets of content that come through cable still unavailable from the Web. Google TV solves the issue by integrating with cable boxes and essentially acting as a DVR. Sure, you can watch back episodes of The Office online, but if you want to watch the latest one an hour after it airs on Thursday at nine o’clock, you can do that too.

Wrapping Up

Apple TV and Google TV will both pull the same trick that even the most basic media streamers have pulled off for years now – playing music, video and photos across a home network. Where they diverge the is on the extras.

Google TV attempts to pop an umbrella over every single source of content you might ever want to plaster across a 42-inch screen. Web browsing? Check. Cable TV? Check. Apps? Check.

Apple TV attempts to sell you content from Apple. And hey, you can watch Netflix this year, too.

Even without full specs or hands on experience with Google TV, it’s obviously entering the market as the better-equipped contender. But the details lie in execution. Devious as Apple’s storefront approach sounds, Apple has proven to make this closed shopping experience feel cozy and convenient in the past, and we wouldn’t surprised to see the ease of use combined with a $99 price point sell the more capable Google TV under the table. Google’s ambitious approach to interconnectivity with cable boxes and other hardware could also cause setup nightmares that negate all of its potential capabilities. After all – a home theater PC can already do pretty much everything Google TV will – but how many people do you know with computers under their TV sets?

Apple has already launched the latest version of Apple TV, and Google TV should be appearing later this month. May the best media center win.

One of the best ways to go about watching the best new movies to stream on Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, Max (HBO) and more is with an Apple TV. The latest Apple TV 4K (2022) is potentially overpowered for what it is. Most people will simply want an easy way to stream content but this system also has a reasonable processor that means you can play games on it too. It won’t be an essential feature for everyone but being able to add on a controller and enjoy some gaming without the need for a dedicated console is a neat touch. For AV enthusiasts, there’s HDR10+ support which is useful for Samsung TV owners. The older Apple TV from 2021 lacks HDR10+ support but is still pretty speedy for everything else you might wish to do. If that all sounds good to you, take a look at the best Apple TV deals below.

There are two kinds of people in this world: Those who use whatever is built into their TV to access all their streaming services, and those who know there's almost certainly something better out there.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the former group of people. Smart TVs come with built-in operating systems like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, or Google TV running the show, in which case you're well-covered. And bespoke TV operating systems — like LG's webOS, Samsung's Tizen, or even Vizio's Home Screen/Smartcast — have gotten better in recent years.

Overview of Apple TV and Google TV

Before we get into the nuances of each platform, it’s vital to understand what distinguishes Apple TV from Google TV in the increasingly congested streaming industry.

Both platforms strive to provide entire entertainment experiences, but they have separate ecosystems and concepts that impact their operation, integration, and appeal to various audiences.

Understanding Apple TV

Apple TV is both a physical device and a platform, providing access to a diverse range of streaming services, including its own Apple TV+ .

Apple TV is known for its beautiful appearance, easy interface, and seamless connection with other Apple devices, making it an extension of the brand’s ecosystem.

It is intended to appeal to people who value a premium and consistent experience across all of their Apple devices.

It is known for its versatility, tailored suggestions, and connectivity with a wide range of apps and services.

Google TV, powered by the Android ecosystem, makes use of the Google Play Store’s vast assortment of applications and games.

Apple TV vs Google TV: Performance Comparison

When picking a streaming device, performance is an important factor to consider. Consumers want a fast, responsive experience that can handle high-definition video without stuttering or latency.

We compare the speed and response times, as well as the visual quality, provided by Apple TV and Google TV.

Speed and Response

The most recent version of Apple TV includes strong technology capable of offering fast app launches and smooth navigation.

The A12 Bionic CPU, included in some of Apple’s most recent devices, guarantees that performance is seldom compromised, even while streaming 4K content or playing graphics-intensive games.

In contrast, the performance of Google TV varies depending on the hardware it is contained in.

Devices such as the Chromecast with Google TV deliver remarkable performance, although certain third-party Google TV devices may not match Apple TV’s consistency and speed owing to varying hardware combinations.

Video Quality

Apple TV supports 4K HDR video, including Dolby Vision and HDR10, which provides vibrant colors and outstanding clarity. Its ability to tune your TV’s settings to maximize video playback yields an unrivaled viewing experience.

Google TV supports 4K HDR streaming with Dolby Vision and HDR10 on supported devices. However, video quality may vary somewhat across various devices.

Nonetheless, it offers a broad selection that will satisfy the majority of people seeking high-quality streaming video.

Features and Benefits

Both Apple TV and Google TV provide a variety of capabilities, but they also have distinct advantages that may persuade customers one way or another.

These features may dramatically improve the user experience, making everyday interactions with the device more fun and easy.

Unique features of Apple TV

Apple TV distinguishes itself for its dedication to providing an ad-free experience on its premium Apple TV+ service, as well as the presence of exclusive content.

It also allows users to buy or rent movies and TV series, a feature that not all platforms provide. The connection with HomeKit enables smart home control directly through the TV interface, which appeals to Apple ecosystem lovers.

The inclusion of Thread networking technology in the most recent versions promises more dependable and secure smart home connections.

Other notable features include Fitness+, which offers a large library of guided workouts, as well as the utilization of Apple AirPlay for seamless multimedia sharing from iOS devices.

Unique features of Google TV

Google TV’s integration with the Google ecosystem provides distinct benefits, such as improved voice search capabilities with Google Assistant and customization tools that customize content suggestions to user preferences.

The platform also has live TV integration for customers who subscribe to services like YouTube TV, which provides a cable-like experience without the need for extra gear.

Another unique feature is Google’s multi-account support, which allows for individualized suggestions and watchlists for various household members.

This function is especially handy for families or shared residences in which members have varying entertainment preferences.

Content and Applications

The amount and diversity of available content are typically the deciding factors for streaming services.

Both Apple TV and Google TV have extensive libraries, but their focus and accessibility vary, which may impact consumer selection depending on their content consumption patterns.

Available content on Apple TV

Apple TV offers access to a wide range of video sources, including popular streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime Video.

Its service, Apple TV+, is fast gaining momentum, thanks to an expanding number of original shows and films. Users may also buy or rent a large range of movies and TV shows through iTunes.

Another advantage is the integration with other platforms via Apple TV Channels, which allows users to subscribe to premium services such as HBO, Showtime, and others directly from the Apple TV app, consolidating payment and viewing into a single interface.

Available content on Google TV

Google TV benefits from its excellent connection with the Google Play Store, which provides access to hundreds of apps and games.

Users can access practically all major streaming services, and the platform’s recommendation algorithm is good at exposing new and fascinating material.

Furthermore, Google TV customers benefit from the platform’s capacity to combine content from many subscriptions into a single, unified experience.

The platform’s adaptability also extends to seamless watching of YouTube and YouTube TV. Because of Google TV’s open environment, users may sideload apps that are not accessible on the Play Store, allowing for more flexibility than Apple TV does natively.

Cost and Value

Cost is unavoidably an important concern when we compare Apple TV vs Google TV. Apple TV and Google TV provide distinct pricing ranges and value propositions.

Assessing what each platform delivers in terms of cost can help customers evaluate which platform gives the most value for their investment.

Pricing of Apple TV

Apple products are often associated with a high price, and the Apple TV is no exception. While more expensive than many alternatives, consumers pay for high-quality hardware, a beautiful appearance, and seamless integration into the Apple ecosystem.

For loyal Apple consumers, the expense is frequently justified by the greater user experience and device consistency.

Furthermore, the purchase of an Apple TV frequently includes a free membership to Apple TV+ for a limited period, adding value to the initial investment.

However, the additional cost may be prohibitive for those searching for a more affordable solution.

Pricing of Google TV

Google TV caters to a wider variety of budgets, with varying price points according to the hardware used.

Devices that work with Google TV, such as the Chromecast, offer a low-cost option to gain access to the platform’s services.

Furthermore, customers may frequently discover offers and discounts on third-party gear that includes Google TV, making it a tempting alternative for cost-conscious consumers.

The platform’s low cost, along with its extensive app selection and personalized experience, provides excellent value for money, particularly for individuals who are not bound to the Apple ecosystem.

User Experience

Personal taste reigns supreme in the realm of user experience. Both Apple TV and Google TV have made significant investments in designing user-friendly interfaces, but each has its taste and approach to interaction.

The user interface on Apple TV

The Apple TV interface is refined, with an emphasis on a visually rich experience and seamless navigation. Its sleek design allows users to easily discover content and navigate between apps.

The interface with Siri offers excellent voice control, and the remote’s touchpad provides a tactile experience that many users like.

Family sharing on Apple TV is another benefit, allowing up to six family members to share purchases and subscriptions.

Apple TV’s user-centric design is clear: to provide a premium experience that is consistent with the rest of the Apple ecosystem.

The user interface on Google TV

Google TV’s UI is distinguished by its customization and suggestion capabilities. The ‘For You’ option curates content from multiple subscriptions to match users’ viewing preferences.

Given Google Assistant’s extensive knowledge base for search and information requests, the voice control is powerful.

Users may customize the user interface to prioritize their preferred applications or conceal services to which they do not subscribe.

Google TV’s user experience is designed to be adaptive and customizable, catering to a wide audience with varying interests.

Apple iPod Touch

Requirement of Web Browser on Apple TV

Greetings from India…hope you’re all doing well.

When will Apple launch web browser for Apple TV? I have recently replaced my Amazon Fire Stick 4K with 2021 iteration of Apple TV 4K.

Now all of latest Amazon streaming devices come with silk browser as a standard across their interface. Much to my surprise, Apple TV doesn’t come with any browser. There are many streaming live events & concerts which provide a link which can be opened in a browser window only. (refer the attachment)
Earlier I was able to paste the link on Amazon Fire Stick silk browser and watch the entire video event or concert on my big tv screen. With Apple TV, I simply can’t do it. Does it support any third party browser from the App Store?

does apple tv have google or safari

Let me know if a solution to the above requirement is already present in the current ecosystem.

  • Why won't Apple TV+ play on Chrome or Edge or any PC-based browser? Why won't Apple TV+ play on Chrome or Edge or any PC-based browser? I get it Apple Products are the best hardware according to fans, but this seems like an intentional block from Apple (yet again) to force people to use their stuff and only their stuff. But the product (Apple TV+) says you can watch it from anywhere, but I have NEVER been able to get it to stream on anything other than my apple hardware. Is anyone out there currently able to use Apple TV+ on a Chrome or Edge Browser? Is anyone out there currently able to use Apple TV+ using another browser? Same here. The incidental web-only streams that I wanted to watch on TV, always played fine using Safari in-app AirPlay.

Yes, there are apparently web browsers available in the App Store for the Apple TV. One is called "AirWeb".

web browsers available

Those essentially AirPlay from a companion app on iPad/iPhone/Mac. There is no standalone webbrowser for tvOS in the strict sense, unless you compile your own version.

With the Apple TV app on your Google Chromecast with Google TV you can watch everything the app has to offer. An extra perk lets you access movies or TV shows you've purchased from iTunes as well!

  • Sign up now and stream get a 7-day free trial

With many of the best streaming services (think giants like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu) having huge success in recent years, Apple TV Plus was somewhat of an inevitability - after all, there's not a technology company on the planet that's not going to want to cash in their share of this multi-million dollar pie.

Can you get Apple TV Plus on Chromecast?

The Apple TV app was warmly welcomed when it arrived in early 2021, allowing us all to tune into Apple TV Plus original shows like Ted Lasso and The Morning Show. If you already own a Chromecast with Google TV , you’ll be able to see Apple TV Plus shows in your personalized recommendations and search results, and use Google Assistant to operate the app with your voice.

Accessing the Apple TV app on the Chromecast with Google TV is an absolute breeze thanks to the user-friendly interface that lets you quickly and easily navigate to the "Apps" tab or head to the "For you" tab and scroll through the apps row. Within seconds, you'll be relaxing on the couch having an Apple TV Plus marathon as you immerse yourself in all those shows you've been wanting to watch for the past few years!

And while Apple TV Plus doesn't have the same variety that the best Netflix shows and best Prime Video shows offer, there's still plenty of laughs and drama to be had. Below, we walk you through how to get Apple TV Plus on your Chromecast with Google TV so you can enjoy award-winning shows brought to you by some of the world's most creative storytellers.

How to install Apple TV for Google Chromecast with Google TV

First thing’s first: you’ll need an Apple TV Plus subscription to access its content , which includes a suite of original shows, films, and documentaries.

Apple TV Plus costs just $6.99 / £6.99 / AU$9.99 per month – and, if you buy an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV 4K , you'll get a 3-month subscription for free. If you’re not sure about committing to that monthly cost, you can get a seven-day free trial by simply downloading the Apple TV app.

  • Head to the 'Apps' tab
  • Hit 'Search For Apps'
  • Type in 'Apple TV'
  • Locate the app and click 'Install'
  • Once its downloaded, tap on 'Open'

You can also follow our guide for how to use Google Assistant to install and hold the Assistant button down on your remote.

Alternatively, you can also install Apple TV via the Google Play Store on your smartphone or tablet and select your Chromecast device after hitting the 'Install' button.

Chromecast plugged into back of TV

What are the best Apple TV Plus shows?

So, you've installed Apple TV to your Google Chromecast with Google TV and it’s time to dig into the streaming service’s host of exclusive shows and movies.

Apple TV Plus doesn’t have the wealth of content like Netflix and Amazon Prime boast in their extensive catalogs, and that’s partly due to the fact that Apple doesn’t include a back catalogue of syndicated shows. You won’t find the likes of Friends or How I Met Your Mother here, but that doesn’t mean that there aren't loads of great shows to watch.

If you’re looking for a few laughs, we’d recommend tucking into Ted Lasso, which is part workplace comedy and part romantic drama. Jason Sudeikis stars in the title role as a big-deal American football coach who gets hired to coach the struggling fictional English Premier League team AFC Richmond despite having no soccer experience at all.

If drama’s your jam, check out the The Morning Show. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carrell in its lead roles, it follows the anchors of a popular US breakfast news show as one of its long-time hosts, played by Carrell, is fired amid a #MeToo misconduct scandal.

For cartoon fans, there’s Central Park, an animated sitcom for adults from the minds behind Bob’s Burgers, while psycho thriller Servant is there to cater to anyone who likes to get in touch with their darker side.

As we mentioned previously, it's well worth using the seven-day free trial to make sure there's enough of what you like on Apple TV Plus before committing to the monthly fee. And while you're perusing the options, check out our guide to the best Apple TV Plus shows.

Google reportedly pays $18 billion a year to be Apple’s default search engine

Apple has long been afraid that google might try to crush safari if it lost search defaults — a new report says it was preparing to do so..

Google pays Apple billions of dollars every year to be the default search engine in Safari on Macs, iPads, and iPhones. That, we’ve known for a long time. But exactly how many billions Google pays, what strings are attached to that money, and what might happen if it went away? Those have been the questions raised repeatedly in the ongoing US v. Google trial , and most of the numbers have been reserved for a closed courtroom.

But now, a New York Times report offers a specific figure: it says Google paid Apple “around $18 billion” in 2021. We’ve been hearing educated guesses and rumors during the trial as low as $10 billion and as high as $20 billion, so this number isn’t totally shocking. But it’s at the high end of expectations.

That money not only gives Google prime placement on Apple devices but it also has historically kept Apple from building its own search engine. John Giannandrea, a former Google executive who now runs machine learning and AI at Apple, testified during the trial that Apple had considered everything from buying Bing to building its own search engine but worried both about competing with Google and losing its deal.

When Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella testified , he posited another reason for Apple to keep the Google deal going: Google might cause trouble if it went away. Google could use its ultra-popular apps like Gmail, Maps, and YouTube to promote Chrome and the Google app, diverting people away from Safari and potentially submarining the value of Apple’s deal with any other search engine. In that sense, not only was the Google / Apple deal mutually beneficial but it may have also been something like a peace treaty.

Not only was the Google / Apple deal mutually beneficial but it was also something like a peace treaty

According to the Times report, Nadella was right. In recent years, threatened by improvements to Apple’s built-in Spotlight feature, Google apparently looked for ways to undercut Spotlight by building a similar feature into Chrome, which “presented users with quick facts and information from files, messages and apps on the device.” Google also began to explore how to use the new EU competition laws to get even more people to switch to Chrome.

The terms and effects of Apple’s deal with Google have become the centerpiece of the US v. Google trial. The Justice Department has argued it amounts to an anticompetitive monopoly, as witness after witness testifies that any search engine with access to Apple’s massive market share would immediately become a power player. (Nadella testified that Apple can effectively “king-make” with its choice of defaults and that he was willing to lose as much as $15 billion a year to get Bing in that spot.)

Google is beginning its portion of the trial on Thursday, and the company’s attorneys will spend the next few weeks making their case. So far, that case has been primarily that Google succeeds not because it forces out rivals but because it is the best search engine. It’s easy for people to switch, Google argues — but it apparently pays $18 billion a year in hopes that they won’t.

Exceptional, best vintage emulator on the App Store!

It’s really cool to think how far we have came in terms of gaming in the last 20 years. 7 systems seamlessly on 1 device is just… amazing. This application brings so much joy to me, playing my childhood DS games. I ended up losing all of my childhood games on a flight when i was about 12 years old, and since then had been wanting to play the games again. I ended up loading all the games that I had lost into my library on the application 🥹 There are no bugs and the AirPlay integration is so cool, it just has a bit of an input delay. One thing I wish was changed: when AirPlay is being used with a controller on DS games, the “lower-half” of the DS screen is not displayed, which is quite annoying. I think the expected behavior should be to have the “top-half” screen shared to the AirPlay device, while the “bottom-half” touch sensitive screen is present on the phone, so it is still able to be used. Regardless, this app is the best thing to hit the app store and to hit the gaming industry in a really long time, and I’m excited to see how much further the developers can go with it in terms of devices and functionality. I will happily make a Patreon donation to promote the development of this application. :)

Exceptional Emulator with a Slick Interface – Delta!

//1. I've been using the Delta emulator on my device, and I must say, it's an absolute joy. The interface is clean and uncluttered, which makes navigating through settings and games an effortless experience. //2. There are no annoying ads to disrupt the gaming session, and the smooth operation enhances every aspect of gameplay. The convenience of the emulator is top-notch, thanks to its intuitive controls and compatibility with a wide range of game formats. It brings back all those nostalgic moments flawlessly, running classics without a hitch. //3. However, there's one feature that would make Delta even better — expanded cloud sync options. Currently, it supports Google Drive and Dropbox, which works well but integrating iCloud sync would be a game-changer for iOS users. This addition would streamline game data management across all Apple devices, making it much more accessible and secure. //4. In conclusion, Delta is a superb emulator that offers a premium nostalgic gaming experience. If iCloud support were added, it would undoubtedly be the perfect package. Highly recommended for anyone looking to relive their favorite gaming memories on the go!

This is VICTORY embodied.

2014 was a year for emulators on iOS. We had GBA4iOS and iNDS especially. Just a couple from what would be so many emulators later on. The Digital Markets Act finally let Delta release on the App Store recently. This is a victory on every freaking level that basically means Apple’s iron cage is softening up. We need to keep this momentum from legislatures against Apple’s monopoly. This is genuinely the case where fighting the “security” guidelines means we get to have more fun. Delta’s just a Nintendo emulator. Imagine if PPSSPP finally released officially to the App Store? God of War on iOS for everyone? I’m playing DKC 1 and 2 right now on Delta, and I don’t have to worry about stupid revokes every few hours after an install just to enjoy the games I played years ago. This is a victory for all of us. For anyone who wasn’t around so early on when this was the expectation around downloading this kind of app - be grateful to never experience an annoying popup about a certificate from random places in the world isn’t the end of your fun and save states for weeks/months.
