Sightseeing:

Montreal has much of the Gallic charm associated with Paris-the French language, fine restaurants, historic buildings, lively streets and sidewalk cafes. But many visitors find it much more casual and friendly than its European counterpart. A truly multicultural city with an international population, Montreal is a place unto itself-one of the most memorable urban destinations in North America.

At the heart of the city's cultural life, the Museum Quarter radiates out from the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts. The Museum Quarter 's historical and architectural richness, spilling over into surrounding streets, creates a special ambiance that leaves a lasting impression on visitors. Crescent, de la Montagne and Sherbrooke Streets are the hub of the district's vibrant business life. High-end, designer fashion and décor boutiques, international shops, art galleries, jewellers and exquisite fine dining never fail to win visitors over.

Tours Excursions Transportation:

Montreal is a very walkable city.

Full service of rentals, sales and repairs of tandems, kid's trailer, roller blades, electric bikes and scooters.

Public transport is a great way to get around Montréal. Notice those big blue signs with the white arrows? That's the way to the city's underground métro system–one of the safest in the world. The métro is fast and it links all of downtown and major tourist destinations, as well as connecting to Montréal's frequent bus service and the train.

Shopping and food.

Along Sainte-Catherine Street-which traverses almost the entire city from east to west-and up and down the cross streets, restaurants of every nationality share sidewalk space with international name-brand boutiques, great department stores, intimate café-terrasses and very happening nightclubs and bars. A spectacular view of McGill College Avenue and Mount Royal comes into view from the Place Ville Marie esplanade, the birthplace of the underground network. Montreal's "underground city," where you'll find passageways lined with over 1,000 stores is a good alternative in case of bd weather.

You will find ATMs in many grocery stores, malls, airports and so on, and most are linked to the international networks, the most common being Cirrus, Plus, Star and Maestro. You can also grab cash from an ATM if you use a major credit card although this method tends to be more expensive because, in addition to a service fee, you'll be charged interest immediately.

Port Montreal cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Montreal, Quebec Canada. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Montreal is a major port city in Canada's Quebec Province and by population (around 1,7 million, metro over 3,5 million) is ranked the country's 2nd largest city (after Toronto ). As cruise port, Montreal handles over 100,000 passengers annually. Midway between Montreal and Toronto is Kingston ON (on Lake Ontario/ St Lawrence Seaway ).

The city features a distinct 4-season climate, with cold and snowy winters and hot summers. Montreal is Canada's 2nd-largest economy and Quebec's largest by GDP. The city is a major center of industry, commerce, finance, technology. Industries include electronics, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, software, printed goods, telecommunications, textile manufacturing, petrochemicals, tobacco, transportation, media (French-language TV productions, radio, movies, print publishing).

The city is best-known for its world-class productions in music, theatre, dance, visual arts. Local cultural life (particularly in the summer) is prompted by many festivals, the largest being Montreal International Jazz Festival (world's largest). St Joseph's Oratory (Canada's largest church) has the world's second-largest copper dome (after Rome 's St Peter's Basilica). The Old Town features narrow cobblestone streets.

Port Montreal

Port's cruising season runs from May through November. High-season is September-October when Canada's "Fall Foliage" cruises are scheduled. Port's statistics show that most cruise ship tourists are Americans (72%), followed by Australians (8,5%), Canadians (7,5%) and British (4,5%). The largest cruise ship in Montreal so far is AIDALuna (LOA length 251 m, passenger capacity 2500).

Port Montreal is one of all 9  St Lawrence  cruise ports of call - together with  Quebec City , Trois-Rivieres ,  Saguenay , Baie-Comeau ,  Sept-Îles ,  Gaspe , Havre-Saint-Pierre and Magdalen Islands . In 2015, Port Montreal handled a total of 73 cruise ship visits, which was 29 more (over 2014). These vessels brought over 92,000 passengers and crew to the city, which was a nearly 30% increase over 2014.

In 2016, when Montreal celebrated its 375th anniversary, the cruise port reported an increase of 28% (over 2015) in passenger shipping volumes. Another factor was the opening (in May) of the refurbished cruise terminal. In 2017, the port handled over 110,000 cruise passengers and reported a revenue of around USD 30 million in cruise-related operations.

In August 2017, Montreal Port Authority (MPA) announced the completion of its shorepower supply project (total cost USD 11 million). The new cruise terminal now offers shoreside power (electricity) for all berthed vessels. The first liner to connect was Holland America 's MS Veendam . The project's first phase resulted in shore-side power supply for wintering ships only, while phase 2 was for cruise vessels. Port's all 4 shorepower stations were inaugurated in 2016 - at berths 25, 27, 29 and M2 (wintering vessels). Shore power allows docked ships to shut down completely their diesel engines, thus reducing bad emissions. Of the project's USD 11 million, USD 5 million were contributed by the Canadian Government, USD 3 million by the Quebec Government and USD 3 million by MPA.

Based on its 2018 cruise schedule (berth bookings), the seaport announced a record year with expected ~130,000 tourists. This was a 14% increase over 2017's 52 ship calls and 114,000+ passengers. In 2018, the cruise port handled 101,504 passengers (10% over 2017) plus 25,383 crew (11,8% increase / 22,888 in 2017) to a total of 127,087 tourists (11% increase over 2017). In 2018, the port welcomed its 80,000th passenger of AIDA Cruises . Maiden calls were made by the liners AIDAvita , Star Pride , Silver Spirit , Victory II . The port handled 25 ship calls from 18 different cruise shipping companies.

Following the Canada-Europe free-trade agreement CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement), in 2018, Port Montreal also projected a record year for its cargo shipping traffic. This is Canada's second-largest cargo port (following only Port Metro Vancouver / handling over 1/2 of Canada's containerized cargoes). In January 2017 was opened the new containership terminal with annual capacity ~600,000 TEU-containers. Port Montreal is also Quebec's only container port. It is ranked Eastern Canada's largest (1,7+ million TEUs handled in 2018) providing the shortest direct lines between Europe and North America.

  • There are plans for building another (larger) container terminal (in Contrecoeur) with annual capacity 1,15 million TEUs, with completion by 2021-2022.
  • In August 2019 CIB (Canada Infrastructure Bank) joined the Contrecoeur port development/expansion project by developing its financial structuring. The signed with MPA deal included designing, construction works, financing, as well as terminal operation and maintenance.

In March 2019, Montreal Port Authority and LOGISTEC Corporation announced that Viau Terminal (annual capacity ~350,000 TEUs, operator Termont Montreal Inc) will be further expanded. This (second phase) follows Phase 1 which was completed in 2016. In 2018, for a 5th consecutive year, the port's container shipping volume increased 9% (to ~1,7 million TEUs). When completed (in December 2020), Phase 2 will add annual capacity 250,000 TEUs, thus bringing Viau Terminal's capacity to 600,000 TEUs and Port's total TEU capacity to 2,1 million. Since January 2021, Viau Terminal will generate around 2500 jobs and contribute ~CAD 340 million to the state's economy.

On June 10, 2021, MPA signed an agreement with Greenfield Global Inc (1989-founded, Toronto -based company which specializes in biofuel production) for supplying hydrogen fuel for the Port's shoreside power facility (in operation since 2017).

In 2022, following the 2-year hiatus due to the COVID crisis, the cruise port had scheduled a total of 46 ship calls/booked berthings, with estimated 40-50,000 visiting tourists.

In 2023 (April 29-October 30), the Port handled a total of 48 cruise calls (+33% over 2022) from 23 different ships (15 brands/companies) and ~67000 tourists (~51000 passengers plus ~16000 crew). The port's cruise schedule listed 5 new vessels (making maiden calls) - Hanseatic Inspiration (Hapag-Lloyd), Oceania Vista, Pacific World (Peace Boat) Viking Neptune and Viking Mars (Viking OCEAN).

In 2024 (May 4-October 28), the Port had scheduled a total of 41 cruise ship calls/booked berdings and expected ~6% growth in passengers (~54000). Of all operations, 9 were transits and 32 homeporting. Of the visiting vessels, 9 were new ships (making first-time calls) - MS Volendam (HAL-Holland America Line), Fred Olsen Borealis, Le Champlain and Le Lyrial (Ponant), Oceania Nautica, Azamara Journey, Seven Seas Grandeur (RSSC-Regent), World Explorer (Rivages du Monde), Villa Vie Odyssey (Villa Vie Residences).

Montreal cruise terminal

Montreal cruise port terminal is located in Old Montreal on De la Commune Street. It is between the downtown Montreal and St Lawrence River.

Cruise ships in Montreal dock at Iberville Passenger Terminal. The cruise port is approx 20-min from the city's airport Montreal-Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport (formerly Montreal Dorval International Airport). There are taxis available at the terminal, as well as offices of the car rental agencies Hertz, Avis, Nation.

Montreal is a really walkable city. All major downtown attractions are close to the cruise port. For those who prefer there is a great public transportation system with bus service and metro. The other opportunity, typical for the city, is to rent a bike. There is a Montreal on Wheels office just in five minutes walking distance fron the cruise ship terminal.

Parking: at the Alexandra Pier costs USD 10 per day (rates for 6- to 8 consecutive days).

In 2015, Port Montreal invested USD 20 million in a restoration project for both Alexandra Pier and the marine passenger terminal.

(new) Montreal Cruise Terminal

Montreal Cruise Terminal (port's second passenger terminal) was inaugurated in May 2017. The first berthed vessel was Maasdam . The construction project cost USD 78 million, of which Quebec Government contributed 20 million, Montreal City 15 million and Montreal Port Authority 43 million.

The terminal has a direct grey-water connection and shore-to-ship power supply capabilities. This provides shoreside electrical power to berthed cruise vessels while the ship's main and auxiliary diesel engines are shut down. The shore power technology reduces greenhouse gas emissions by over 2800 tons per year. The project was rolled out in 2 phases - firstly for wintering vessels and later for cruise vessels. In 2016, the port installed 4 shore power stations (berths 25, 27, 29, M2) where berthed vessels can connect to the city's power grid.

The new passenger terminal also serves as an event space on no-sihp days, thus generating revenue the whole year-round.

To get from Quebec City to Montreal, you basically have 3 choices, rent a car, fly, or take the train. Via has daily trains, car rental would be easy enough 3 hr drive, and the flights are a bit expensive IMO but short.

My choice has always been the train but I love trains YMMV and it's about 3-4hrs. Prices start around $35 depending on time of year and what not.

Just looked at the flights from Quebec City to Toronto and Porter air has a good reputation and offers some good deals too.

Here's their website: https://www.flyporter.com/en-ca/special-offers/website-savings

I am going the opposite way, from Montreal airport to Quebec cruise port. Check VIA rail website. They have trains which allow checked in baggage and if you book Quebec to Dorval (not Montreal) there is a VIA rail bus to the airport. BTW Dorval is about 2 miles from the airport. By booking on a Tuesday well in advance there are some very good prices. I already have my seats allocated for a train in September. Journey time is 4hours 20 minutes.

Trains! Planes! Automobiles! So many choices. I can see much research in my future. Thank you all for your replies and suggestions.

We were on a Holland America cruise that ended in Quebec. The cruise line offered a shuttle

bus option from the cruise pier to the airport in Montreal and it was relatively inexpensive and

very easy to do. If you want to take the train you'll need a taxi as it's too far to walk to. Renting

a car or getting to the airport in Quebec also requires a taxi. Check with the cruise line you'll be

on to see what they offer as it's definitely the easiest way to get from the ship to Montreal.

We also took the train once from Montreal to Quebec city expecting beautiful scenery and a

unique experience. The majority of the trip was rather dull with only the last hour or so having

some interesting views other than routine housing.

Florida Cruise Port Home to MSC, Norwegian, and More Is Expanding — What to Know

Port Canveral's new terminal is expected to be up and running by 2026.

how far is montreal cruise port from airport

Education Images/Getty Images

A cruise port on Florida’s Space Coast is going bigger, planning to build a brand-new cruise terminal to meet demand.

Port Canaveral’s new, expanded cruise terminal will be built at one of the existing berths and is expected to be operational by summer 2026, according to the port . When complete, it will have the ability to serve multiple cruise lines.

"A new cruise terminal and the business it will deliver builds on our Board’s commitment to the economic prosperity of our Port community," Micah Loyd, the chairman of the Canaveral Port Authority Board of Commissioners, said in a statement. “This proactive, business-oriented strategy reaffirms our commitment to ensure the State of Florida continues to prosper from cruise tourism and remains the ‘Cruise Capital of the World’.”

When finished, the new terminal will extend the current North 8 berth by more than 300 feet to  accommodate larger cruise ships. The project will also include a new multi-story parking facility with the ability to accommodate up to 3,000 vehicles along with roadway improvements.

Port officials expect disruptions to current operations to be minimal during construction due to the project’s location.

Capt. John Murray, the Port Canaveral CEO, said in the statement the planned new terminal is “key to retaining and growing this important business segment that supports many jobs and delivers high value to our regional and state economy.”

Currently, several major cruise lines call Port Canaveral home: Carnival Cruise Line, Disney Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line, and MSC Cruises. In fact, the site welcomed an all-time high 6.8 million cruise passengers in the 2023 fiscal year, according to the port .

From Port Canaveral , which is nestled along Florida’s Space Coast , travelers can explore NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex , hang out on the sand at Cocoa Beach , tour mangroves, keep an eye out for manatees and dolphins, and more.

There is also the possibility that I would be arriving via a rental car ; are there car rental agency offices in/near the cruise terminal for drop off? ( I am thinking Avis, Hertz, Economy, Enterprise)

Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

If I remember well nowdays the flat fare by cab to all location in downtown, Latin Quarter and Old Montréal is $ 40 + tips.

No train service and the bus shuttle (no 747) will let you get off at some distance so you will have to take a cab from there (along René-Lévesque Boulevard) to the maritime terminal.

For those of you that may wonder, yes I am a new avatar of DE Rickb. I am having problems with the original one right now so I am temporarily using this new identity.

Tried And Tested Guide, What To Do In Miami Cruise Port

W e wanted to tell you a little about our recent trip to Miami in the United States and share some tips in our Guide On  What To Do In Miami Cruise Port.  Because quite frankly I can’t wait to go back to explore this exciting vibrant city in South Florida again.

Part of cruising is the exploring right? And I have to tell you that I wasn’t to excited about staying in Miami! Last time we visited Miami for a pre cruise visit, we stayed in a swanky airport hotel. We didn’t even venture into town, I really did believe it was all hype.

How wrong can a person be? We weren’t blessed with traditional Miami weather on this trip, but instead were welcomed with terribly windy but oddly warm showery days. Yet in hindsight that was a blessing, as we got out and really saw Miami and there is plenty to do when the sun isnt out. I have no doubt, had it been sunny we would have made full use of the hotel pool. Thus my only regret is that we didn’t stay longer. If you are hopping off on a beach trip in Florida its worth checking out which of the beaches are the safest as some beaches can be dangerous.

What To Do In Miami Cruise Port

How to get to miami beach area from miami airport or the cruise port.

We flew into Miami airport, the closest airport to the port of Miami for our cruise on Norwegian Cruise Line, on Norwegian Encore. But you have to factor in that Miami customs is slow. We are talking passengers should expect it to take 2 hours to get through and get their luggage. Although I have also known it take 3 hours, I kid you not! My advice would be get off the plane quick, dont stop for the bathroom, get to the queue as soon as you can.

If you are staying in Miami for a pre cruise stay we have popped some hotel suggestions below. Also getting to your hotel is so easy no need to pre book transfers.  Simply use the Uber app , we never had to wait long 5 minutes tops during the whole trip.

Although on the trip from the airport, we did get one car from Uber and one taxi from the airport. We were travelling as a large group and didn’t all have the the Uber app. The Uber cost $25, whereas the taxi from outside the airport cost $55. Thats a huge difference for 2 cars doing the same trip at the same time of day.

Getting To The Miami Cruise Terminal From Miami Beach

We didn’t make the same mistake again! Thus after our 2 night stay, used Uber to get to the Cruise  Ship at the NCL Dock at the Port of Miami Cruise Terminal at the end of our stay, this cost $30 for 4 people and 4 cases. Again the Uber was easy order and arrived at the time stated.

How Far Is It To Walk From North Beach To South Beach In Miami?

Once in our hotel we grabbed a glass of wine and planned the next couple of days. (We had chosen the Rui Plaza for its beach location, and it certainly didn’t disappoint.) However was less expensive being a little further up the coast of Miami Beach Boardwalk on North Beach.

Don’t let North Beach locations put you off, we walked up along the sand to South Beach and it took around 20-30 minutes. Although please do bear in mind, that was with me constantly stopping to take photos, we could have done it quicker. The location of the Rui Plaza was fabulous, backing onto the beach and the hotel has a great pool.

What To Do On Miami Beach, Near Miami Cruise Port

See the famous miami beach, beach huts.

South Beach is a must-see destination in Miami. Whilst famous for its white sands, endless beaches, turquoise waters of the Atlantic Ocean and brightly colored beach huts. You can also spend hours strolling along taking in all the sights. Plus take the time to chill and rent beach chairs, an umbrella, and enjoy water sports such as jet skiing, parasailing, or paddle-boarding.

Of course you can’t visit South Beach and not check out the largest collection of candy colored Art Deco buildings and architecture in the world. I honestly can’t describe how incredible the Art Deco area is. If you love architecture then its a real treat to wander taking in the sights stopping for the odd cocktail or or course coffee.

Take A Walking Tour Or Hire A Bike Near Miami Cruise Terminal

Take a walking tour and learn about the history and architecture of the buildings, such as the The ‘Birdcage Club’ itself is actually now a wonderful cafe called the Birdcage Cafe,  1250 Ocean Drive  at 13th Street. Built in 1939, it’s one of South Beach’s oldest and most celebrated Art Deco landmarks.

Alternatively rent a bike or explore the city on a guided bike tour on the bike trails, which is a great time to see the sights and get some exercise.

If you are going to be in Miami for a couple of days check out the Palace Bottomless Brunch. Alternatively nip in to see a free show a grab a cocktail. I cant tell you how incredible this show is. Those ladies were awesome and the atmosphere is electric.

South Beach is also known for its vibrant lively nightlife. Visit some of the famous nightclubs, bars and lounges for a cocktail or two.

Visit the Perez Art Museum

The Perez Art Museum Miami features some really cool contemporary art exhibitions from around the world. Check out works by international artists, enjoy a performance in the outdoor space or wander the outside sculpture garden.

The collection includes works by prominent artists such as Kehinde Wiley, Julie Mehretu, and Yayoi Kusama, as well as a great collection of art from the Caribbean and Latin America.

Check Out Little Havana

Little Havana is a colorful and cultural neighbourhood in Miami. It has authentic Cuban feel with restaurants, lively music, art galleries, and shops that sell hand-rolled cigars.

Visitors to Little Havana can enjoy a variety of cultural experiences, including watching live salsa music and dance performances, visiting museums and art galleries, and exploring historic landmarks such as the Bay of Pigs Museum, the Tower Theater, and the Walk of Fame.

The Miami Design District  is a trendy and stylish area that’s home to luxury fashion brands, boutiques, art galleries, and upscale restaurants. Because of this, its a great place to visit, shop and people watch. It’s located just north of downtown Miami.

The neighborhood was originally a rundown industrial area, but it has undergone a massive transformation in recent years, becoming a hub for art, design, and culture. It is now home to over 130 art galleries, showrooms, and museums, as well as some of the world’s most famous luxury fashion brands, including Gucci, Prada, and Louis Vuitton.

Explore Vizcaya Museum and Gardens

The Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a historic estate, the estate was originally built as a winter home for James Deering, a wealthy businessman, in the early 20th century. Today, it’s open to the public as a museum and cultural center.

The estate includes a 34-room Italian Renaissance-style villa, formal gardens, and a collection of decorative arts and furnishings from the 15th through the 19th centuries. The gardens are spread over 10 acres and feature sculptures, fountains and many species of plants and trees.

Visitors to the museum can take guided tours of the villa and gardens, The museum also offers a variety of exhibits and displays throughout the year, showcasing the history and culture of Miami and its surrounding areas. Tickets cost, $25 for adults , plus children 6-12 are $10 and under 5s are free.

The marketplace was opened in 1987 and covers an area of about 16 acres, stretching along the Biscayne Bay. It is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike, attracting millions of visitors each year.

Check Out The Art And Culture At The Wynwood Walls.

The Wynwood Walls is a glorious outdoor street art museum, craft market and street food market located in the Wynwood neighbourhood of Miami. I suggest getting an Uber from Miami Cruise Port as its around 10 minutes drive away but is totally worth the fare. Notably, Wynwood Walls is open to the public seven days a week and admission is also free.

Featuring a collection of large murals and also stunning street art created by some of the world’s most prominent artists. The Wynwood Walls were established in 2009 by the late Tony Goldman, a real estate developer and art lover, as a way to revitalise the Wynwood neighbourhood which was formerly an industrial area.

Since opening, The Wynwood Walls has become a popular destination for locals and tourists alike. Hence the cool chilled out vibe attracts thousands of visitors every year. In addition to the outdoor murals, the Wynwood Walls also features a rotating collection of indoor art exhibits and galleries.
