For their Spring/Summer 2024 line, Loro Piana explores its fondness for Japan , a country that shares with Italy not just similarities in geographical features and an abundance of natural resources, but a profound respect for craftsmanship, understated luxury, and timeless style.

On the women’s side of the new collection, the Japanese influence is immediately apparent in pieces such as the cashmere or quilted silk coats with petit stand-up collars, collarless woven jackets tied in the front, kimono-style jackets with round pants, and long printed dresses. Light knitwear sets and jacquard silk skirts and blouses are other highlights, as is the iconic Spagna Jacket, which explores a few tailoring adjustments from previous versions, as we’ll explore further on.

For men, spring and summer silhouettes are soft, offering a sense of calm. Coats without collars, blousons, and workwear-inspired denim add a pragmatic feel to the wardrobe. In promoting a new ease for Loro Piana, Bermuda shorts become central to the look, paired with jumpers, band collar shirts, or collarless anorak shirts.

As always with Loro Piana, colours and textures have been thoughtfully considered with this collection. For women, cashmere, linens and cotton linens, silk, and woven linen mixtures pair with a palette of shades such as Sencha Green, Bamboo, Nougat, Ginger Root, Spring Soil, and Wild Sage, as well as deep tones of Black, Clay Teapot, and Ink Bottle. On the gentlemen’s side, the colour palette comprises tones of Deep Blue, Melange Gray, Navy Blue, and Black, with the occasional appearance of Nougat, Liquorice Stick, Tapioca, and Sencha Green.

In addition, a signature indigo is inevitably introduced to the palette with the debuting textiles Denim Silk — a technical combination of 60 percent denim and 40 percent silk — and ‘CashDenim’, a composite of denim and cashmere in a similar 60 to 40 percent ratio.

For accessories, the women’s collection sees the launch of Loom, a double-handled tote resembling the drape of fabric across the loom, and the resurgence of the Extra Bag and Ghiera with new options. Flats , thongs, and sandals complete the summer looks, together with hats, knitted caps, and some light jewellery for the neck and wrist. For men, tennis shoes, sturdy loafers, round-toed slippers, and sandals are the summer footwear must-haves, while a selection of small black leather goods and a pouch add some intrigue to the men’s accessories offerings.

Summer 2024’s It-Bag

One of the stars of the collection is the Ghiera bag, inspired by the maison’s iconic ring-shaped pendant that has long accompanied its women’s pieces. This emblem, which is a part of the spinning machine, is a charming reminder of Loro Piana’s textile heritage that can now be carried wherever you go.

As an accessory, the Ghiera is as bold as it is discreet with minimalist design and the symbolic accent. Serving both form and function, the bag’s flap features harmonious curved lines and an ergonomic clasp, while the ring-shaped strap loops also allow the Ghiera to be carried a shoulder or cross-body bag. Metallic details come in two tones: Sun Gold or Antique Silver.

Styling-wise, the Ghiera offers several combinations of colours, sizes, and materials.
