Wilson nCode Six.One Tour 90

Wilson nCode Six.One Tour 90

Roger Federer's racquet of choice, the nSix-One Tour replaces the Pro Staff Tour 90 as Wilson's flagship player's racquet. The nSix-One Tour is designed to offer greater frame strength, more stability and more power. A good alround racquet, the nSix-One Tour will reward those skilled enough to swing it with accuracy and good weight of shot. We found the racquet to play very stable, even when in use against hard-hitting opponents.

Wilson nCode nSix-One 95 Racquet Review

Groundstrokes, serve returns, last shots from our playtesters:.

Granville - "Ahhh yes! An old friend in a new suit. This racquet remains perched atop the short list of top-of-the-line player's sticks. Subtle changes/improvements elevate the performance of a classic once again. I just have become so used to the shape of Wilson grips (6.1) that I really struggle with anything new. As soon as I felt the grip shape, I knew that was what I've been missing in my current racquet."

Chris - "I thought the nSix-One 95 was a nice racquet that would fit me better with a lower powered string. With a little added weight to the upper hoop and a poly or poly hybrid in the stringbed, I think I would find the extra control I was seeking from the nSix-One 95. I found the stringbed felt lively compared to the Hyper ProStaff 6.1, even when strung with the same string and reference tension. I also found the nSix-One 95 to offer a more dampened, comfortably solid feel compared to the Hyper ProStaff 6.1."

Josh - "The nSix-One 95 played with more power than its 6.1 rating, and I found more success when it was strung at a higher tension.

Wendi - "This racquet felt good from the moment I picked it up. Nice weight, not to mention a good looking racquet. Serving was incredible!"

Casey - "Not a bad stick for an all around player and transitioning junior. It has some power, and will also be maneuverable enough for a junior switching from a 'tweener' to a player's frame. Not only that, but it has the makings of a very customizable racquet."

Wilson Six One 95 nCode Classic Racquet Review

n code six one tour 90

Time for another classic racquet review. It’s one of my personal favorites, the Wilson Six One 95 nCode (18×20).

The Wilson Six One 95 nCode was a bestseller when it came out in 2004 and is today still used by several pros and many high-level club players. Kyle Edmund and Dan Evans are two pros that both still use the nCode edition. And as you might know, there are many other variations of the Six One 95 that are very popular on the pro tour. Names like Del Potro, Kohlschreiber, Lajovic, Moutet, and Bautista-Agut surely ring a bell!

This racquet is made for the aggressive player who wants to attack the ball with a flat shot. It’s heavy, has a pretty beefy swing weight (337 is the average of all my 4 nCodes) but head-light which makes it somewhat maneuverable despite the weight.

The nCode Six One 95 was released in two string patterns, 16×18 and 18×20. They are both good, but for the video review, I tested the 18×20. It offers a bit more control, while the 16×18 is more lively and spin-focused.

Wilson nCode Six One 95 Specs

n code six one tour 90

Headsize: 95 sq inches Length: 27 inches Beam: 22 mm Pattern: 18×20 or 16×18 Weight: 332g unstrung Balance: 12 pts HL unstrung

I strung up my Wilson Six One 95 nCode with Pacific synthetic gut 1.28 at 25 kg / 55 lbs in the mains and String Project Armor 1.25 at 24 kg / 53 lbs in the crosses. I really believe the Six One 95 series play best with a hybrid setup. Luckily, the nCode is fairly comfortable for a Six One 95 so you can use a poly without a huge risk of arm issues, but I still prefer a slightly softer setup.

Let’s look at some pros and cons.

Pros and Cons

+ Stable + Hits a heavy ball + Control – Heavy to swing – Smallish sweet spot – Not huge on spin

I really enjoy playing with the Six One 95 nCode. It also has a special place in my bag as my first real player racquet. Still, it’s not forgiving and easy to use and after about one hour of hitting, I usually get a bit tired. It’s a lot to swing and the small sweet spot requires good footwork. Which is usually more difficult for us happy amateurs when the match drags on.

But if you haven’t tried a Six One 95 – you must! And the nCode is one of the best. Wilson has actually recently re-released the Six One 95 in a great-looking Pro Labs version .

Do you like the Six One 95?

I enjoy my 2017 Six One 95, I use it with Luxilon Alu 1.20 at 24kg. I intend to buy a 2nd one, still white with red.

I think that Kyle Edmund uses the 16×18. Check out some recent photos.

As you say the 332g version is too much stick for most people, I was always disappointed they didn’t make a mid-weight one around 310g with a normal string pattern. Instead they just made the 95S with its 18×16 pattern that is a bit too open really. I have been quite tempted to buy one of the 95 Teams that are 18×20 and 289g, then add a leather grip and overgrip (+12g) and 6g or so in the hoop to create a 307g unstrung version. The last real series (Amplifeel) even had a graticule on the sides to help when adding weight.

I have one of those, it’s the loudest racquet of my collection, very unique sound when striking the ball right I love it for doubles, volleys like very few racquets can, hits a nasty slice and it’s demanding, stiff and a bit sluggish my second 6.1 favourite, after the classic

Which string should i use on the racket? I play in my free time.

Babolat RPM Blast?

Go for something more comfortable – like a multifilament, try HEAD Velocity MLT 1.30 at 24 kg / 53 lbs

I used the N Six One 95 for almost 15 years from 2004-2019. I love it still but I also get fatigue in my shoulders and arms after about an hour of singles… it’s the worst when I’m closing out the set and I start tiring – no more serve bombs

I agree about the hybrid setup, I got around to using a poly like Kirschbaum super smash in the mains and a multi filament like nxt in the crosses. I used the 16-19 for max spin

I started using it this week and got amazing results, but immediately got back spasms!!! Need another racquet like it but lighter ?

Wilson Ncode six one tour vs team

  • Thread starter dpr1960
  • Start date Jun 21, 2006
  • Jun 21, 2006

I recently purchased a new Wilson Ncode six one tour ($113 shipped) and a new Wilson Ncode six one team ($125 shipped). Both came unstrung. I have read a lot of internet hype. I just want to know the pros and cons of each while I try and decide which to keep. Any comments will be gladly appreciated.

Duzza

Whats the Team? Is that the 95 inch version or that super light one?

abenguyen

Hall of Fame

the tour is the 90 sq in head and the team is the 95 and it has 2 string pattern chice (16X18 and 18X20)

Return_Ace

naw, the team is the super light one, kinda like the nPS here on TW, the team is euro. Tour Pro : Control, Stability. Con : Heavy(er), Small(er) Sweetspot. Team Pro : More Manouverable, Big(ger) Sweetspot, More Power. Con : Less Stable, More Power/Less Control. btw, i'm just going by the specs here, i haven't played with either racket, however i have played with the normal n6.1 95 and found it to be too stiff, like hitting a with a plank of wood, but i wasn't as good then so maybe i wasn't hitting the right spot.

The Ncode six one team is: Referred to as the Ncode six one 95. Tension: 23-27kg (53-63lbs) Length: 68.6cm (27.0in) Weight: 289grams (10.2oz)UNSTRUNG-----348grams(12.3oz)STRUNG Headsize: 632cm2 (98 sq.in) Balance: 33.0cm (4HL) Pattern: 18 X 20 (On the racket it says 98 sq.in headsize/on the packaging it says 95 sq.in) The Ncode six one tour is: Referred to as the Ncode six one 90. Length: 27.0in Weight: 356grams (12.5oz) STRUNG Headsize: 90 sq.in Balance: 31.5cm Pattern: 16 X 19 The difference I notice is specs is Headsize,Balance, and String Pattern. Length is the same and weight seems only to be 2 tenths of an oz. difference....(not much of a difference to me). Am I missing something here??

wow I didn't know strings weighed 2.1 ounces...

The unstrung info comes directly off of the racket. The strung info comes off of Wilson's website: http://www.wilson.com/wilson/racq/flash.jsp?inSp=tn&bmLocale=en

Hmmm....interesting!!! I recently purchased the new racket off of **** with the following description: WILSON nCODE SIX-ONE 95 TEAM 18X20 Tennis Racquet GRIP - 4 3/8 BRAND NEW IN A WILSON BAG Unstrung A Six-One 95 for lovers of tight string patterns, the nSix-One 95 Team(18x20) offers more control and a firmer feel from the stringbed. The feel off the strings between the two nSix-One 95 racquets is quite different, while the feel from the frame is similar in that it feels controlled, headlight and traditional. Players who like to utilize heavy slice on serve or off the ground should find a willing partner with this racquet. We found lots of feel at net, which translated into accurate touch and angle volleys and solid placement on deeper volleys. If the regular nSix-One 95 was a bit too lively for you, then this version might just have exactly what you're looking for. This solid and comfortable player’s racquet is well worth a playtest. Best suited to 4.5 to 7.0 level players. Head Size: 95 sq. in. / 613 sq. cm. Length: 27 inches / 69 cm Strung Weight: 12.3oz / 349g Balance: 9pts Head Light Swingweight: 332 Stiffness: 64 Beam Width: 22 mm Straight Beam Composition: 10% nCoded Hyper Carbon / 75% nCoded High Modulus Graphite / 15% Kevlar Power Level: Low Swing Speed: Fast Grip Type: TL Gel String Pattern: 18 Mains / 20 Crosses Mains skip: 8T,10T,8H,10H One Piece No shared holes String Tension: 50-60 pounds Did I recieve the racket advertised?? Looks to me like they gave specs for the 95. Maybe I got took??? I really had not noticed the difference in balance. Thanks for the responses!! Problem is that I just sent it out to be strung. I guess I'll be keeping it. Were they worth about the same?? Or is the 95 of more value than the team???

+ you got sold a normal n6.1 there.

as return ace said, u purchased an n6.1 95 18x20, not an n6.1 team. but if u liked the specs listed, u'd prefer the 95 over the team anyway.

Return_Ace said: naw, you have the specs right, but the n6.1 95 and the n6.1 Team are completely different rackets, the weight of the Team is as you say, 289g whilst the normal n6.1 95 is 330g. Click to expand...

Hehehe,lol..... Now I am totally confused!! The racket I have in hand has "team" written on the racket. The racket I have in hand DOES NOT match the specs of """" auction. I thought I was buying an Ncode six one 95 with balance 9HL. I think what I got was an Ncode six one 95 Team with balance 4HL. Is there a major difference in the two rackets.....??? Did I get "took" or is this a decent racket as well?? I guess all in all, I could keep the Ncode six one 90.... and sell this one if its not a decent racket....let me know what ya think, thanks.

Just found out i have the European version.....just a little lighter, and has a 4pt HL instead of 9pt HL. Thanks for all the help......sorry for the confusion.

this is trivial, but it was just discovered in another topic that the nPS is the same as the the n6.1 team, but the n6.1 team paint job isnt available in the U.S.

  • Jun 22, 2006

Just to let you know, according to Wilson, the racket I have just bought off of our favorite auction site is a fake.....beware!!! For more information check my newest post. Don't get scammed.....I have to admit it looks and feels great.

  • Jun 23, 2006

I have to eat all my words........chomp, chomp..... Wilson reps here in the U.S. say that they don't make a ncode six one w/headsize 98. And they said the European/Asian versions are not 98...... When I asked about Australia, they said they didn't know..... I just found out Australia does make a ncode six one team 98 (18X20)... The racket IS NOT A FAKE after all...... Chomp, chomp....I'm such a loser......hope this helps you though!!!

wow, thats really cool. i had no idea there was a 98 sq. in n6.1. dude, u gotta write a review on it.

basically th n6.1 team is a european version of the nps 95, the specs are the same the n6.1 95 is the heavier racquet available in 2 string patterns. which is th same in th US and europe

It's kind of confusing. If you do a search on nSix-One 95 Team, you'll see US retailers listing the weight as 12.3 oz, but also saying it's a "lighter" version. You'll see UK sellers listing the unstrung weight of the nSix-One 95 Team as 289g. The regular version is 333g. This may be a case where the nSix-One Team is considered the same as the 18x20 version here in the US, but in Europe, it's an entirely different racquet.

Federer's racquet of choice, the nSix-One Tour 90, retains much of the same design as the Pro Staff Tour 90 that it replaces. The same 17mm straight box-beam design, headsize, leather grip, and 9 points head light balance are retained. Gone is the predominantly black look and textured paint around the upper hoop.
