Benefits of summer travel

The list of summer-travel perks is endless. But here are just a few of our favorite reasons to see the world between June and September.

Warm weather for exploring

If you’re planning to travel this summer, you can expect weather in the high 70s. If you plan to visit Iceland, it can get up to 68. And if you’re looking at summer vacations to Australia, where it’s their winter, you can expect it to be between 50 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on where you go.

Activities for every interest

One of the best parts of our summer tour packages is that there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re interested in listening to live music, sipping homemade sangria, walking through nature, or feeling nautical on the sea, our summer trips have it all.

More daylight for sightseeing

The sun rises earlier and sets later in the summer, which means longer days for you to explore. With more free time, you’ll truly make the most of your trip.

It also means spending more time outside, so you can see wildlife at Denali National Park , walk along the cliffs of Moher in Ireland , or snorkel with sea turtles in the Galápagos .

It’s the off-season for many countries

Scandinavia , Iceland , and Australia & New Zealand are often considered winter travel destinations. But in the summer, they’re even more special. Summer vacations to more traditional winter destinations mean fewer crowds, lower prices, and more unique experiences.

What our travelers say about their summer trips

Frequently asked questions about summer travel.

Traveling in the summer is great for everyone, with trips to suit any interest. If you’re looking to explore the outdoors, like Denali National Park or Iceland, you’ll love our Adventure tours . If you like learning about history, you’ll love our  trips to Europe . If you're a foodie or enjoy trying different wines, check out our  Food & Wine tours .

There are so many things to experience on our summer trips. Some of our favorite summer activities include:

  • Cruising of the  Galápagos
  • Sipping wine made from rare Albanian grapes in Albania
  • Walking the streets of the  Greek Islands of Paros and Naxos
  • Taking in the  Australian Outback
  • Cruising through  Copenhagen
  • Seeing all the famous sites in  Europe

No matter where you go, a good tip for any summer trip is to bring sunscreen. And pack lots of layers so you’ll never be too hot or too cold. Squeeze a great sun hat and sunglasses into your suitcase and you’ll be good to go.

Originally starting out as a duo, OM was formed by two members – Al Cisneros (Bass Guitar and Vocals) and Chris Haikus (Drums) in 2003. They are now a trio, joined by band member Robert Lowe (Percussion, Synthesizer, Vocals and Guitar) and Haikus being replaced by Emil Amos on the drums in 2008. Together they form an experimental drone metal band, from San Francisco, United States. Their earliest work to date is originated from Tibetan and Byzantine rhythms, as you will hear on their first ever album Variations on a Theme, 2005, under the label Holy Mountain. The band’s name ‘OM’ originates from Hindu backgrounds – meaning the natural vibrations from Earth. Said band name to them is the reflection of absolute reality, ‘OM’ in Mantra being the name of God, hence why their songs connote religion. Unlike modern bands, OM also publish their albums on both vinyl’s and cassettes. Their most recent album, Advaitic Gods released in 2012 is their fifth studio album which has received a vast mixture of reviews from fans and critics – fans believed they moved too far away from their original heavy genre as it frequently visits (like their album Pilgrimage – 2007 – and God is Good – 2009) Christian Iconography with an image of John the Baptist on the album cover.

I consider(ed) myself as a huge OM fan... I saw them live two times before, as I can recall 2008 and 2009. One show on the Roadburn festival was amazing when they still used to play as a duo.

With the years they used to implement more and more other instruments and sounds besides bass and drums, which is - on record - a good addition.

The concert last night was the first time I saw them live as a three-piece. And unfortunately I have to say it was just a huge, huge disappointment.

The bass sound - which used to be warm and lively - just sounded dull. The drummer Emil Amos sounded absolutely great and played tight. But Al Cisneros and the percussionist "Lichens" just could not play tight together. Every song was much much slower than on CD and there was no groove at all.

Overall: the playing sucked and they seemed to be glad to get off stage (no encore after a short 1 h set with no other bands).

Saw OM in DC tonight. I’m a big fan, I like their unique sound and when I heard they were coming I bought tickets like 4 months in advance. I’m glad their opening band WOVENHAND was playing because they stole the show. Wovenhand was great. OM was dull, predictable and monotonous. No groove at all. The drummer, despite respectable skill, plays the same damn patterns over and over, each song is the same. After two songs my girl and I played pinball to pass the time of the rest of the set. It sucked. I was relieved when they finished, and so was the crowd, it began thinning after half of the set, and the second the band said thanks everyone turned and rushed for the door. No one even wanted an encore. They just wanted to get the fuck out of the building and make sure they were still alive and didn’t die of boredom. On the upside, I discovered a much better band... Wovenhand.

The experience of seeing OM live was really something else, however, the sound was unfortunately a bit poor. They played in a church though, so it might have had something to do with that.

The definitive highlight for me would be Thebes.

Summer Tour (2023)

The Summer Tour was the hundred-and-third tour of Mario Kart Tour , which began on August 23, 2023 and ended on September 6, 2023.

This tour introduced a new city course based on Madrid , Spain called Madrid Drive . With this tour's introduction, a tour named after every season has been held during the game's fourth year, following the Autumn Tour in 2022 and the Winter Tour and Spring Tour earlier in 2023.

The tour also introduced a purple variant of the Pit Crew Toad and a new outfit for Mario based on his black and blue suit from Super Mario Odyssey , making this the first tour since the 2022 Anniversary Tour to introduce a new costume for Mario and marking the final instance of Charles Martinet providing a new voice line for Mario in the Super Mario franchise due to his retirement from voicing characters in the franchise. Additionally, many sport-themed vehicle parts were introduced in this tour, relating to baseball and golf.

This tour concluded the Summertime Celebration, which began in the Sunshine Tour .

This was the first tour to introduce a Super driver with the Giga Bob-omb special item, being Purple Toad (Pit Crew) ; as well as the first to add favorite courses to Peachette , Pauline , Peach (Kimono) , the Poison Apple Kart , and the Star-Spangled Glider since the Peach Tour , 2022 Autumn Tour , 2023 New Year's Tour , and Rosalina Tour , respectively.

The Coin Rush course for this tour was Madrid Drive. The menu's background featured the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium as the tour's landmark.

An in-game announcement titled "About Upcoming Scheduled Tours" was added to the internal data during this tour. [1] This announcement was later published during the 2023 Sundae Tour .

Poochy appeared on the course icon for Berlin Byways R/T despite not being obtainable in this tour.

This was the final tour to introduce a brand new city course and Super driver to the game.

The performance included reimagined versions of songs from their 11-year catalog including brand-new songs from their critically acclaimed fifth studio album 5SOS5 , accompanied by a 12-piece string orchestra and a 12-member gospel choir.

“’The Feeling of Falling Upwards’ is simply supposed to describe to you the feeling that we have experienced together, the feeling of taking a leap of faith on such a fickle thing like music,” expressed vocalist and drummer Ashton Irwin on stage at Royal Albert Hall, “And sharing this experience together year after year, season after season of our lives.”

Stay Tuned for Possible Basis Swings This Summer

by James Mintert and Josh Strine

Since early May, Indiana corn basis has flattened or improved modestly, depending on the location. Corn basis levels throughout Indiana remain well below their three-year average as illustrated in Figures 1 and 2. Although basis levels remain below their multi-year average, basis has risen sharply since the low points observed last fall. For example, when measured from its fall low to early June, central Indiana corn basis increased by $0.65/bu. which was $0.16/bu. more than the average basis increase of the prior three years. Similarly, July corn basis at Indiana ethanol plants over the same period improved by about $0.68/bu. compared to an average increase of just $0.48/bu.

Figure 1. Corn Basis, July Contract for Central Indiana Source: Purdue Center for Commercial Agriculture Crop Basis Tool

Similar to corn, Indiana soybean basis levels remain below the multi-year average (figures 3 and 4). Also, like corn, soybean basis levels have increased sharply since the lows established during last fall’s harvest. One notable difference between this year’s corn and soybean basis changes since fall is that, unlike corn, the increase in soybean basis from last fall to early June has been about equal to or a bit less than average. For example, central Indiana soybean basis has improved by about $0.86/bu. from its fall low to early June vs. an average increase of about $0.89/bu. Soybean processor basis over the same time rose about $0.90/bu. compared to an average increase of just over $1/bu.

Figure 3. Soybean Basis, July Contract for Central Indiana Source: Purdue Center for Commercial Agriculture Crop Basis Tool

The corn and soybean basis charts provide a note of caution for producers still holding old crop inventories. Historical analysis indicates that basis predictability drops off sharply by late June and early July. The charts suggest that, on average, corn and soybean basis weakens as the growing season progresses. In reality, basis levels for the rest of the summer will be heavily influenced by Corn Belt growing conditions and crop production expectations which could lead to wide swings in basis between now and the end of the storage season. As always, be sure to visit the Purdue Center for Commercial Agriculture Crop Basis Tool to check current corn and soybean basis levels and historical basis trends in your local area.

Related resources, corn & soybean basis continue to strengthen despite being significantly weaker than historical basis levels.

In recent weeks, corn basis has continued to strengthen steadily at many locations across the eastern Corn Belt. For example, corn basis in central Indiana for the second week of May was $0.22/bu. under July ’24 corn futures. This is $0.13/bu. stronger than the first week of March.

Corn & Soybean Basis Steady to Slightly Stronger Across the Eastern Corn Belt

In recent weeks, corn basis has been steady to slightly stronger across much of the eastern Corn Belt. For example, corn basis in central Indiana for the second week of April was $0.18/bu. under May ’24 corn futures.

Keanu Reeves' band Dogstar announces summer 2024 tour for their first album in 20 years

Keanu Reeves and his band Dogstar are going back on the road.

Following the group's first performance in 20 years last summer, Dogstar announced Tuesday that its members are embarking on the Summer Vacation Tour 2024 across North America.

"We can’t wait to see everyone! Thank you all for all the love and support," drummer Rob Mailhouse commented under the band's Instagram post. "We can feel it every time we take the stage. ❤️"

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Dogstar, currently on tour in Europe, will be visiting 29 cities starting with the Indiana State Fair on Aug. 8. Their last show is Dana Point, California's Ohana Fest on Sept. 27.

The pre-sale begins Wednesday at noon local time; tickets can be found at dogstarofficial.com .

Last October, Dogstar — which comprises Reeves, Mailhouse and guitarist/vocalist Bret Domrose — came out with its first album in two decades, a 12-track record titled "Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees." It was released by their own label, Dillon Street Records and featured their single "Everything Turns Around."

The "John Wick" star, the alt-rock band's bassist, formed the band with Mailhouse and the group's original guitarist and lead singer Gregg Miller in 1991.

Before ending their 20-year hiatus with a performance at BottleRock Napa Valley music festival in northern California last May, Reeves told  Billboard  that being with Dogstar was "something I’ve always missed."

"I missed playing together, I missed writing together, I missed doing shows together," he said. "We came to a spot where we weren’t playing anymore, and I missed it … Once we started to play, and it felt good, and really positive and creative, that’s when it was like, 'OK, let’s make this happen.'"

"I think all three of us just said, ‘Well, if we’re going to do this, let’s make a record,'" Reeves said. Domrose added, "We just knew that there was ‘X’ amount of time, and we needed to make the most of it. We just locked on as wanting to make this record, and it happened pretty quickly."

At the Napa Valley festival, the band played tracks from the previous albums, 1996’s "Our Little Visionary" and 2000’s "Happy Ending," as well as several songs from their yet-unreleased "Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees."

Three months later, Dogstar went on to tour two dozen cities in North America and Japan in its Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees Tour.

Robert Plant and Alison Krauss are equal parts ribbing and respect ahead of summer tour

om summer tour 2023

You might not expect a comedy routine during a conversation with Robert Plant and Alison Krauss .

But the rock 'n' roll lion and the bluegrass chanteuse who became an unlikely musical pair 17 years ago with their rootsy collaboration “ Raising Sand ” are relaxed, playful and exceptionally respectful of each other.

And very funny.

In a joint interview a few days before the June 2 launch of another summer of touring behind “ Raise the Roof, ” their 2021 acclaimed follow-up to the Grammy-winning “Raising Sand,” the pair begin by disagreeing about when their last tour ended (it was July) and tease each other while answering how they might change the set list for this run of dates.

“We haven’t started yet, but we have 39 shows. so I think we’ll consolidate and play to our strengths initially,” Plant says.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

“And then we’ll play to our weaknesses,” Krauss jokes.

“See what I’m dealing with?” Plant responds with mock exasperation.

For 25 minutes, the pair banter about aging (he is 75, she 52), why sleep is “crucial” while touring and the art of harmonizing.

“I’m trying my best to learn how to get it right,” Plant, one of the mightiest singers in rock history , says with discernable humbleness.

Here is what else the twosome had to share.

Join our Watch Party! Sign up to receive USA TODAY's movie and TV recommendations right in your inbox

Question: What have you both been doing since getting off the road last year?

Robert Plant: I’ve been very busy following my north star and reaching into the great old world of R&B for songs I might do something with down the road. And watching football (soccer).

Alison Krauss: I’ve been watching documentaries about The Mothman. And have been in the studio with Union Station working on a new album.

What is it like making the shift from touring with Robert to going back into the studio?

Krauss: It’s much more laid-back with Robert. The studio has its own unpleasantness, and it’s a much more relaxed environment here. I can’t believe I get to do both.

Plant: You have a lot more notes to worry about in that band. I’ve learned a lot in my time around Alison and the world that comes with her, and it’s been a spectacle of charm, politeness and peach cobblers.

You mean, Southern?

Plant: Yes! You do a studio session in Nashville and you have to make your way through the baked goods. In England it’s much more rough and ready. The people in Nashville, there is a standard and quality and texture there.

More: The Beatles' 'Love' closes July 6. Why Ringo Starr says 'it’s worth seeing' while you can

You’ve had these songs out on the road the past couple of summers. What has changed in either the setlist or your approach to the music?

Krauss: All of these songs, they turn into something else the longer you live with them − like I wish we would have recorded it this way or phrased it like that. When you sing the same song (live), the stories change.

Is your rapport deep enough now that you can look at each other onstage and know the song is going somewhere?

Krauss: I know when he looks at me he’s going somewhere, but I don’t know where.

Plant: I never sang harmony in Led Zeppelin except for “Thank You.” I really didn’t know about singing with another person. I do believe that Henry “The Horse” (Smith), our guitar roadie, and Jimmy (Page) sang the harmonies with me on that one. But I loved listening to what Alison sang.

Robert, do you think if you hadn’t connected with Alison a couple of decades ago, that you would have stayed in music?

Plant: I’ve been really fortunate because it was such a formative time in my life when Led Zeppelin came to a screeching halt and I had to keep moving and find a new place to do what I do and challenge myself. … This woman sitting next to me is manna from heaven.

More: Darius Rucker talks family trauma, drug use and fate: 'The best revenge is success'

You’re also going on tour with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson. Are you technically the opening act?

Plant: I think they’re doing ice cream sundaes and hot dogs when we play. But I do think there is one person on before us. Regardless, I’m proud to be standing next to Alison before the master (Dylan) takes the stage.

Alison, tell me about your friendship with Def Leppard since you sang on a couple of songs on their "Diamond Star Halos" album.

Krauss: All of the bluegrass-ers love Def Leppard. Their harmonies, the way they would blend. It was so incredible to do those songs. They were so generous and nice.

Plant: So different than Robert (laughs).

Krauss: Right, not like Robert. I said they were so generous and nice (laughs). It was a fantasy. There are plenty of people who grew up playing the kind of music I did and fantasized about playing a (rock) part.

There are always a few reconstructed Led Zeppelin songs in your show. Robert, do you enjoy doing them or is it more obligatory?

Plant: I love them and am very proud of them, and to get to change them around and to hear that voice next to me, it allows for an exotic overview of the more dramatic elements. At times I’m emotional about it because I’m hearing these songs – they are all beautiful adaptations that I could never have dreamt. It’s a great achievement.

Since it’s been almost a year since you last toured, do you have to do anything health-wise to get ready?

Krauss: Just sleep.

Plant: Sleep is crucial. Having jet lag, that’s a crippler. You’ll be awake at 4 a.m. sending notes to people, thinking "Should I read a book for awhile? No, go to sleep!"

Have you discussed any future recordings together so it won’t be another 14 years between albums?

Plant: Time is a funny thing, isn’t it? Alison is going back on the bluegrass trail, so I guess if she wants me back, she can give me a call.
