Sizing information.

power trip jacket liner

The overall fit of this jacket is very “standard”. We checked some sizes against our Joe Rocket/Power Trip size chart and found the estimated chest sizes to be accurate. We also tried on a Medium and XL on our Fit Check mannequins Huey and Dewey and they look great (view those shots by taking the View Larger Images link above). Therefore, I recommend you choose the size jacket you normally wear in men’s clothing. You can use the chart to choose if you know your chest size.

This jacket has a wide range of adjustment through the mid-section. There are two side adjusters that work well. In their wide-open position, they will allow for a belly, but they can also be snugged up by several inches for flat bellies. The “drop” from chest to waist on this style is about 4” which is a very standard cut. For example, a size Large has a max chest of about 44” and the max belly is about 40”.

Just an FYI … 2015 and newer PowerTrip jackets share the same fit as Joe Rocket jackets (generally speaking), and so if you know your sizing in any more recent Joe Rocket designs, you’ll likely find the same fit in this jacket.

Our Two Cents

This Pivot jacket is a new style for the 2015 season. The Power Trip brand has always been manufactured by the same folks that make Joe Rocket gear, and the Power Trip line is styled more for cruiser riders. General styling aside, the similarities in the products has always been apparent to me, and beginning in 2015 there is an even more close association.

The Pivot is really a “blacked out” version of Joe Rocket’s Atomic 4.0 jacket… a favorite sport style. Overall, this is a versatile textile that can handle colder to warmer temps (but not hot weather), and will do especially well in wet weather. I mention wet weather because this jacket has an integrated waterproof liner, which offers about the best overall method of making a jacket fully waterproof. The liner is installed between the outer shell and the inner liner and does not have any openings such as zippers, snaps, pockets, etc. to leak. The outer shell of this jacket will absorb some water of course but it won’t make it all the way down to your skin. There is also a super extensive storm flap behind the main zipper which should do a great job keeping air and moisture from getting in that way as well (see our close up pics). For cooler weather, the fully sleeved insulated liner should do a great job keeping you warm, and it’s easily removed for warmer weather.

Speaking of warm weather, this jacket has two bicep vents and two rear exit vents to move some air through. But keep in mind that even with the vents open, air flow won’t pass through the built in waterproof liner, so the overall effectiveness of the venting is only moderate. That is why I mentioned that this one won’t be great for hot weather.

This jacket makes a good “every day” jacket for cruiser riders. You’ll find the standard pocket arrangement handy. There are two hand warmer pockets, an internal document pocket, and a cargo pocket built in the removable liner. As for protection, you get CE armor included for the elbows and shoulders. The back pad is Power Trip’s standard foam back pad, which is more substantial than most. The rear of the jacket can be anchored to your pants or jeans with two small snap-loops just inside the tail of the jacket. Many riders find this handy to keep the jacket anchored at your waist at highway speeds.

Overall, this is a lot of jacket for the money and a great cruiser/street style. :: Paul, 04-13-15

Power Trip Motorcycle Jackets & Gloves

Power Trip

A real biker is the one who invests money not only in their bike but in good riding gear as well. Yet, with such a huge choice of products available in the market today, you may wonder which brand to choose. Here Power Trip comes into play. This brand offers quality and reliable protective motorcycle jackets and gloves intended to fit and protect. Power Trips’ gear will minimize injury in case of a crash while keeping you comfortable, warm, and dry to help you stay focused on the road. Packed with numerous performance features, the gear will provide you with way more benefits. Let’s find out what they are.

To make its jackets highly protective, Power Trip endows them with C.E. approved armor at the shoulders and elbows. The jackets provide excellent abrasion resistance and will prevent road rash from hurting your skin. They feature the 6-point adjustment system ensuring maximum wearing comfort and have big reflective stripes on the front and back to help other drivers get you easily noticed and thereby increase your safety. There are models sewn from water-resistant textile and featuring the ventilation system with waterproof zippers. Power Trip also offers jackets with the mesh torso, back, and arms for maximum breathability and ultra-low profile collar for increased mobility.

Power Trip crafts top-notch gloves using drum dyed cowhide or leather. It offers fingerless and full-fingered models in XSmall to XLarge sizes. Designed with high precision and featuring a hook-and-loop wrist strap, the gloves ensure a perfect fit. Power Trip lined gloves have a padded palm for comfort and conductive material on the index fingers to let you text messages or make calls without taking the gloves off. The other models sport injection molded carbon knuckles, high-density finger pads, and molded knuckle protector. There are also gel palm gloves sewn using perforated and non-perforated leather. As you see, Power Trip has gloves for every need and want.

Power Trip Gauge Mesh and Pivot Motorcycle Jackets Review

Two hundred and sixty bucks is a pretty typical price for a decent textile riding jacket, wouldn’t you say? What if that could buy you two? Joe Rocket’s Power Trip line says it has redefined cheap with its Gauge Mesh and Pivot jackets, and we’re inclined to agree. Starting at $129.99 each, you could own both an armored mesh jacket for hot weather and a water-resistant shell with a full-sleeve insulated liner for less than three bills. Both fit well and seem well made, and come in any color you want as long as it’s black. There isn’t any badging to speak of either, perfect for a rider who doesn’t care to be a company’s billboard.

Both the Gauge Mesh and Pivot jackets have CE-approved armor in the elbows and shoulders, and optional CE-approved spine protectors are available for $80-$90 to replace the standard spine armor. Three chevrons of dense foam padding protect the side rib areas. A generous amount of reflective piping runs down the arms and across the back of both jackets, and four belt loops are provided for attaching it to pants in addition to an 8-inch zipper on the Gauge. Three-position straps snug the armor down on your elbows, and there are hook-and-loop straps for adjusting the waist. We particularly liked the zippered, snap-closure cuffs and low-profile mandarin-style collars on both jackets—they fit snugly but don’t interfere with gloves or movement.

The Gauge has FreeAir mesh in the torso, back and arms for maximum airflow, with sturdy RockTex fabric reinforcing the shoulders, elbows and forearms. Its mesh construction flows a ton of air and fits trimly. If the sunshine turns to liquid, you can zip in the standard waterproof liner, wear it on the outside or by itself off the bike. The Gauge only has two handwarmer pockets in front, the price you pay for all of that airflow in hot weather.

Pivot Jacket

For cooler temps, the Pivot jacket uses a water-resistant RockTex 600 shell with a dual storm flap and zippers and comes with a removable full-sleeve insulated liner. We haven’t enjoyed any rain in California for some time, but the Pivot did pretty well in the shower test, leaking only slightly through the vent and pocket zippers. Though it’s short-waisted like the Gauge, with the liner in, the Pivot is warm enough for cooler days and short rides on cold nights, and when it warms the zippered vents in the biceps and down both sides of the back flow some air, though the jacket still gets a bit clammy in hot weather (time for the Gauge Mesh!). It adds a zippered wallet pocket in the storm flap, and one with a hook-and-loop closure in the insulated liner, so the Pivot is better suited to touring and changeable weather.

Both the Gauge and Pivot jackets come in Small (38-40) to 3XL (54-56) sizes and cost $129.99-$139.99. They offer great value and versatility for less than a night out on the town.

Maybe its just my DNS lookup server, but it appears your site has moved.

fixed pleas try again

power trip jacket liner

I've got a pair of PowerTrip gloves that I really like. They fit perfectly (which is new for me, usually at least one finger is too long) and are very sturdy. Can't say anything about their jackets, though.

power trip jacket liner

All I can say is it's a nice looking jacket in the pics. But I don't know anything about the Manufacturer. You try a google type search?

Yes, it is a leather cruiser jacket and no, it has no armor so while the abrasion factor will be high the breaking bones factor will remain unprotected. I picked up a Cortech GS Air leather for under $250 and it comes with armor, spine protector 2 liners, 5 pockets and it's ready to be zipped into pants as well. I also have a UNIC cruiser jacket that is super thick leather and not well suited to hot days at all. I does however have outstanding rash protection.

Hey Clay, I had a Power Trip mesh jacket (recently retired and replaced with a Joe Rocket because it clashed badly with the SV.. it was hot pink and the SV is red. ) OK you are probably not going to wear a pink jacket. Anyway, I found the quality to be good and fit well, long enough in the sleeves and torso to cover you in riding position, adjustable fit features (velcro on sleeves, hip zipper). I also found (at least the ladies) them to run true to size. It held up very well to repeated washing. Sorry I'm not familiar with their leather jackets. I use New Enough and Motorcycle Superstore for most online purchases, not familiar with the site you mentioned. But the price is excellent!!

power trip jacket liner

I have the Power Trip Supercharger. Actually I have 3 of them because Newenough had them on sale for ridiculously cheap (they're sold out now, though). In my opinion they are well worth the price that motorcyclecloseouts is asking. Everything about the jacket is very high quality, the leather feels great and is soft, doesn't require much of a break-in. The jacket is comfortable both on and off the bike- I ride a Ninja 500 and a Concours 1000. I bought shoulder and elbow armor from newenough, with the armor installed the jacket feels very sturdy and protective. Without the armor it still feels substantial and it also could serve as a casual leather jacket. All the pockets are at least somewhat useful. I avoid using them because I don't want to stretch them out and make the jacket look goofy- I've done that with a leather jacket before, because I used to always stuff tons of **** in the pockets. But you can easily put cash and/or a cell phone and little articles like that in any of the pockets, and they all zip closed. The main chest zipper needs to break in a little, when you first get it, it's stiff. The vents work well with the liner removed. The liner is well-made and adds some warmth. With the liner in and the zippers closed, no wind gets in. Definitely a good jacket for the money. IMO it is of HIGHER quality than a lot of Icon and Joe Rocket jackets. I've gone to the dealer to look at jackets and I see all these big-name leather jackets for $300-450 and they are JUNK compared to the powertrip jacket.

thanks for the replys guys(and girls) i used to be so stuck on the armor thing but I'm not really sure how well it would work. because it isn't really held in place by the jacket and when you move things tend to shift. and things really shift around when your in a odd position(i can only assume that a bike being laid down at higher speeds is one of these odd positions) so is it really worth the armor. the second hangup i have with the armor is that its so hard to find i good cruiser jacket with it in already. the jackets more made for you sport bike riders all have it in them but none of those jackets meet what i want the jacket to look like. and the only other jacket i have found that i have truly fallen in love with is the Icon Strong arm but i cant find those anywhere for a good price. could anyone comment on what i said about armor?

I bought Joe Rocket CE armor for my supercharger, both elbow and shoulder. http://www.newenough.com/armor/elbo...rcycle_armor_for_jackets_pants_and_suits.html I like it. It stays in place fairly well, it does have wiggle room but not enough that it will come out of place and make itself useless. It's always in place on your shoulders and elbows. Like I said, I consider my supercharger to be of superior quality than the $300+ jackets I see at the dealerships, and I think the same of the armor. The armor in those jackets usually isn't any better than this $20 CE armor. The backpad that comes in the supercharger isn't great but it will help a little in the impact and probably help a lot in the slide. Also, the supercharger does have slots for the armor in the sleeves and the shoulders, and the armor slips right in there. It's tough to get it in at first, but once you get it in there once you'll understand how it works.

yeah i missread that it had slots for armor i think that pritty much seals the deal for that jacket. how did the sizeing run Schneiderman?

I'm 6', 150 pounds, very slim build with long arms. I usually wear a medium shirt but can get away with a small. Like I said I have three of these jackets, one is a medium and two are smalls. The medium fits a little loose but looks right, not awkward or anything. The sleeves are the right length for me, and the loose fit will let me wear lots of layers underneath in the cold. The size small fits comfortably snug, the sleeves are just a little short but not much. The small does not look especially tight, and it still allows for a complete range of motion- I don't feel cramped or restricted. IMO they run slightly large, since size small jackets usually don't fit me right.

ok thanks

i guess this thread was all for not because my size is sold out.......... just my luck.

Ah, that stinks. Happened to my friend too, I showed him my jacket and he got all excited then we went on his computer to order it and newenough had sold out of them already.

i am again lost in the sea of choices. (well its More like a lake on my budget)

FYI there is a $100 power trip jacket on newenough.com in closeout

see i think I'm gonna get a tour master jacket. they make some good stuff i hear and its fairly reasonable as far as pricing goes. i checked on new enough and if i just go to a dealer ship and order it it will be cheaper then new enough because at the dealership i don't have to pay shipping charges. so i think i will do that.

If your dealership has good prices then yeah, get it there, but newenough also has shipping credit on some brands, including tourmaster, so shipping will be free or only a couple dollars. I can't buy stuff from dealerships because the dealers here price things twice as much as online.

Clay, I've found my local dealer will work with me on price/shipping too; so if I go there to try on, i try to order from them; still order from new enough for stuff I just order directly. I do like to support the local businesses when I can. That said, I LOVE new enough... great customer service and fast shipping.

New enough is awsome but when the dealership is cheaper and i dont ahve to worry about throwing around my credit card number online. but in this case the dealership was a great deal just as good as new enough. so why not get it from a local business that i pass everyday on my way home from work

back ordered Dangit the jacket i wanted was back ordered. getting the right riding gear shouldn't be this darn hard

power trip jacket liner

I know several people that have Power Trip gear and they all like it, I myself prefer textile and mesh over leather but that comes down to personal preference. I also prefer having CE armor in all my gear too though. I am getting too old and don't mend quite as fast as I did when I was in my 20's lol. Google for reviews of brands or even specific jackets is highly suggeted. I usually research just about everything I buy. I currenty have jackets from Fieldshear, Cortech, and Tour Master and I like them all for different reasons. All mine have liners etc as well, but I usually don't wear them, but it looks like rain today so I may be wearing my rain liner with my mesh jacket later today.

Does anyone wear the VTX Power Trip Jacket like this one? http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/11/99/12495/CITEM/Power-Trip-VTX-Mesh-Jacket-Closeouts.aspx I'm in need of a new light weight jacket and wanted to know anyone's thoughts who wears one? Thanks

power trip jacket liner

power trip jacket I have one just like that and wear it quite a bit. Taking the liner out it is even comfortable in the summer. They are cut small though. Allen

power trip jacket liner

Yup. Love it.

power trip jacket liner

I have the textile one. I like it.

power trip jacket liner

I have the Drifter air jacket from Tour Master, Great for summer riding here in sunny Fl. http://www.tourmaster.com/xcart/catalog/Draft-Air-Jacket-p-49_3.html

power trip jacket liner

I have a black one. I use it all the time.

power trip jacket liner

I just got the textile one recently. It is medium weight. A bit gaudy with all the patches but a well made garment that should hold up well I think. Power Trip makes good stuff. Anything you get from them is going to be quality.

power trip jacket liner

I recently ordered one like it for the same price of $79.00. They even shipped it for free. It came in a couple of days ago. I tried it on and it is great for the price. I haven't actually worn it to ride yet as it is a birthday present for me and that isn't until May 3rd. I price this in advance and tried one on for fit at Iron Horse Motorcycles in Monroe, NC. It had a price tag on it there of $199 so I figured it was too cool to pass up. The jacket is way cool. Hope this helps.

power trip jacket liner

Got mine just like it in March and rode with it on today. Fit snug but XL did fit like it should on me. Very nice jacket. Little stiff at first and if it's a bit warm be sure to take liner out or you will really sweat. Looking at buying the textile one next for the cooler weather.

power trip jacket liner

I have the black one. Great jacket...use it all the time. Took out the hard pads to make it more comfortable.

power trip jacket liner

I have the exact same one and really like it.

power trip jacket liner

I have the mesh one and the leather one as well. Love them both. get one size larger than normal though as they run small! Enjoy!

Appreciate all the feedback. I think I'll go ahead and pull the trigger.

power trip jacket liner

should I think you should also - Love the jacket, so I'll think I'll get one myself, probably the silver outside because of the sun....... Thanks for showing it to me. Wildfire

I have this Jacket and Like it alot. warm when Cool, And not hot when warm

power trip jacket liner

Reflective pullout safety panels

power trip jacket liner

Who: Power-Trip What: Road Worthy Gear Wear: Power-Trip is renowned for its collection of exclusive motorcycle apparel which includes gloves, pants, chaps, and motorcycle jackets for both men and women.

We got our hands on a few of the motorcycle jackets from the lineup: the Ronin, the Jet Black II, the Dakota II, and the Alpha, a U.S. Army inspired jacket that meets military safety requirements. All the jackets have tons of safety features like CE apporved high-density armor in the elbows and shoulders as well as spin pads and most feature Power-Trips BigAir ventilation system with full front FreeAir mesh intakes hidden behind the front zipper panels

The Alpha US Army Jacket MSRP $229.99 The Alpha features a heavy-duty 500d Hitena Nylon exterior. The Alpha also has a removable ID holder, reflective pullouts with safety panels on the front and rear of the jacket. This jacket also features Power Trip’s Variable Flow ventilation system that allows air to flow throughout on the hot days and a removable vest liner that seals up the jacket on cold days. The Alpha has elastic sleeve adjusters and a pocket for your i-Pod with a water tight port for the earphones. Power-Trip’s Alpha comes in black with gray camouflage or moss green with black and sand camouflage. To all you military guys and gals out there, you know that you need to wear a safety vest any time you are riding, so here’s an all in-one jacket that meets the military safety standards.

The Ronin MSRP $149.99 The Ronin is a heavy-duty cotton canvas jacket with a Variable Flow ventilation system with four large yet discreet vents (two intake and two exhaust). The jacket has subtle reflective strips and adjustable waist and sleeves. It has a zippered front with a button up cover for that classic jean jacket look. When you look at this jacket it’s reminiscent of the old Levi denim that seemed to fall apart after one riding season, but when you see how well the Ronin is made you know it will be around for many seasons.

The Jet Black II MSRP $149.99 The Jet Black II is a fully-armored jacket with the BigAir ventilation system. A mesh intake hidden behind the front zipper panel allows air to flow through the front and exit the rear. The jacket also has a removable insulated vest liner, and adjustable waist and sleeves for a perfect fit. It features snap loops to secure the jacket to your belt. The Jet Black II comes in full black or black and gray. The jacket was light and very comfortable to have on while riding.

The Dakota II MSRP $169.99 The Dakota II features a 100 percent waterproof RockTex 600d outer shell with double waterproof flaps behind the main zipper. The BigAir ventilation system helps cool you down on hot days and on extra hot days the insulated full-sleeve liner can be removed. The Dakota features pre-curved sleeves for a more comfortable riding position and thin refelctive piping for added safety at night. The Dakota II is the perfect year-round riding jacket with all the options to handle any weather.

Le Corbusier’s triumphant return to Moscow

power trip jacket liner

The largest Le Corbusier exhibition in a quarter of a century celebrates the modernist architect’s life and his connection with the city.

Given his affinity with Moscow, it is perhaps surprising that the city had never hosted a major examination of Le Corbusier’s work until now. However, the Pushkin Museum and the Le Corbusier Fund have redressed that discrepancy with the comprehensive exhibition “Secrets of Creation: Between Art and Architecture,” which runs until November 18.

Presenting over 400 exhibits, the exhibition charts Le Corbusier’s development from the young man eagerly sketching buildings on a trip around Europe, to his later years as a prolific and influential architect.

The exhibition brings together the different facets of his talent, showing his publications, artwork and furniture design alongside photographs, models and blueprints of his buildings.

Russian art reveals a new brave world beyond the Black Square

Art-Moscow fair targets younger art collectors

Irina Antonova, director of the Pushkin Museum, said, “It was important for us to also exhibit his art. People know Le Corbusier the architect, but what is less well know is that he was also an artist. Seeing his art and architecture together gives us an insight into his mind and his thought-processes.”

What becomes obvious to visitors of the exhibition is that Le Corbusier was a man driven by a single-minded vision of how form and lines should interact, a vision he was able to express across multiple genres.

The upper wings of the Pushkin Museum are separated by the central stairs and two long balconies. The organizers have exploited this space, allowing comparison of Le Corbusier’s different art forms. On one side there are large paintings in the Purist style he adapted from Cubism, while on the other wall there are panoramic photographs of his famous buildings.

Le Corbusier was a theorist, producing many pamphlets and manifestos which outlined his view that rigorous urban planning could make society more productive and raise the average standard of living.

It was his affinity with constructivism, and its accompanying vision of the way architecture could shape society, which drew him to visit the Soviet Union, where, as he saw it, there existed a “nation that is being organized in accordance with its new spirit.”

The exhibition’s curator Jean-Louis Cohen explains that Le Corbusier saw Moscow as “somewhere he could experiment.” Indeed, when the architect was commissioned to construct the famous Tsentrosoyuz Building, he responded by producing a plan for the entire city, based on his concept of geometric symmetry.

Falling foul of the political climate

He had misread the Soviet appetite for experimentation, and as Cohen relates in his book Le Corbusier, 1887-1965, drew stinging attacks from the likes of El Lissitsky, who called his design “a city on paper, extraneous to living nature, located in a desert through which not even a river must be allowed to pass (since a curve would contradict the style).”

Not to be deterred, Le Corbusier returned to Moscow in 1932 and entered the famous Palace of the Soviets competition, a skyscraper that was planned to be the tallest building in the world.

This time he fell foul of the changing political climate, as Stalin’s growing suspicion of the avant-garde led to the endorsement of neo-classical designs for the construction, which was ultimately never built due to the Second World War.

Situated opposite the proposed site for the Palace of the Soviets, the exhibition offers a tantalizing vision of what might have been, presenting scale models alongside Le Corbusier’s plans, and generating the feeling of an un-built masterpiece.

Despite Le Corbusier’s fluctuating fortunes in Soviet society, there was one architect who never wavered in his support . Constructivist luminary Alexander Vesnin declared that the Tsentrosoyuz building was the "the best building to arise in Moscow for over a century.”

The exhibition sheds light on their professional and personal relationship, showing sketches and letters they exchanged. In a radical break from the abstract nature of most of Le Corbusier’s art, this corner of the exhibition highlights the sometimes volatile architect’s softer side, as shown through nude sketches and classical still-life paintings he sent to Vesnin.

“He was a complex person” says Cohen. “It’s important to show his difficult elements; his connections with the USSR, with Mussolini. Now that relations between Russia and the West have improved, we can examine this. At the moment there is a new season in Le Corbusier interpretation.” To this end, the exhibition includes articles that have never previously been published in Russia, as well as Le Corbusier’s own literature.

Completing Le Corbusier’s triumphant return to Russia is a preview of a forthcoming statue, to be erected outside the Tsentrosoyuz building. Even if she couldn’t quite accept his vision of a planned city, Moscow is certainly welcoming him back.

City Street Guides by f.d. walker: A Street Photography Guide to Moscow, Russia

moscow-guide-cover

*A series of guides on shooting Street Photography in cities around the world. Find the best spots to shoot, things to capture, street walks, street tips, safety concerns, and more for cities around the world. I have personally researched, explored and shot Street Photography in every city that I create a guide for. So you can be ready to capture the streets as soon as you step outside with your camera!

At over 12 million people, Moscow is the largest city in Russia and second largest in Europe by population ( Istanbul is #1). An urban, cosmopolitan metropolis with more than enough glitz and glam to cater to the elite, but without losing its fair share of Soviet era roughness around the edges. It can be fast paced, brash, busy, and trendy like other big cities, but it has its blend of West meets Russia atmosphere and beauty that provides plenty of unique interest. The Red Square is as famous as it gets, but there’s so much more to this city, including the most beautiful subway system you’ve ever seen. It would take years to capture all of Moscow, but that means you have an endless amount of areas to discover.

power trip jacket liner

So here’s a Street Photography guide so you can be ready to capture all that Moscow has to offer before you even arrive!

  • Patriarch’s Pond
  • Old Arbat Street
  • Maroseyka Street
  • Tverskoy Boulevard

Top 5 Street Spots:

1. red square.

The Red Square is the most famous square in not just Russia, but all of Eastern Europe. The name actually doesn’t come from the color of the bricks or communism, but from the name in Russian, Krásnaya, once meaning “beautiful” before its meaning changed to “red.” This large plaza is what you see on the cover of guide books and magazines for Moscow, with St. Basil’s Cathedral being the center piece next to Lenin’s Mausoleum surrounded by the Kremlin Wall. Of course, the Red Square attracts hordes of tourist due to the main attractions, but all that activity around an interesting atmosphere does provide street photo opportunities. It’s also the central square connecting to the city’s major streets, providing a good starting point to explore outward.

power trip jacket liner

You’ll also find the popular pedestrian only Nikolskaya Street connecting the Red Square to Lubyanka Square. This line of expensive shops includes plenty of activity, while also leading you to another popular square. Filled with history rivaling any city, the Red Square and surrounding areas are the heart and soul of Russia.

power trip jacket liner

2. Patriarch’s Ponds

Patriarch’s Ponds is one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Moscow. Despite the name being plural, there’s only one large pond, but it’s worth a visit with your camera. It’s a popular spot for locals and expats to come relax or take a stroll around the pond. You get an interesting mix of young and old too, from young love to “babushkas” feeding pigeons. It’s a very peaceful park atmosphere in one of the nicer areas within the city center, while bringing enough activity for street photography.

power trip jacket liner

The pond is shallow and in the winter becomes a popular spot for ice-skating too. The area is also well-known for the location in the famous Russian novel, The Master and Margarita.

3. Old Arbat (Stary Arbat)

Old Arbat is the most famous pedestrian street in Moscow, and dating back to the 15th century, also one of its oldest. Originally, it was an area of trade, but soon became the most prestigious residential area in Moscow. During the 18th century, Arbat started attracting the city’s scholars and artists, including Alexander Pushkin. Cafes lined the streets and impressive homes filled the neighborhood. Since then, New Arbat street was created as a highway in the area, while Old Arbat was paved for a 1km pedestrian only walkway.

power trip jacket liner

Due to the historic buildings, famous artists that lived here, and the bohemian atmosphere, Old Arbat has become a big attraction for tourists today. Now, there’s a mix of cafes, restaurants, souvenir shops, street performers, street merchants and other attractions for visitors, and some locals, to come enjoy. It can get really busy here and there’s usually something interesting going on so it’s a good street to come walk with your camera for guaranteed life.

4. Gorky Park

One of the most famous places in Moscow is Gorky Park. The official name is Maxim Gorky’s Central Park of Culture & Leisure, which gives you an idea of what goes on here. When built, it was the first of its kind in the Soviet Union. Divided into two parts, it stretches along Moscow River. One end contains fair rides, foods stands, tennis courts, a sports club, a lake for boat rides, and more. This end brings more active life due to its number of attractions, while the other end is more relaxed, where you’ll find gardens, trees, older buildings, and an outdoor amphitheater.

power trip jacket liner

Gorky Park attracts mostly locals so it’s a good spot to capture the non-tourist side of Moscow life. Muscovites come here to escape the city and unwind in a picturesque setting. The park remains alive outside of the warmer months too, especially when the lake turns into the city’s largest outdoor skating rink. I’d recommend taking the metro out here to spend at least half a day exploring the massive park’s life with your camera.

5. Maroseyka Street

Maroseyka Street is a popular area not too far from the Red Square. The long, winding street turns into Pokrovka and is lined with restaurants, cafes, bars and places to stay. It’s actually where I like to stay when I’m in Moscow due to its location and solid street photography opportunities itself. You have Kitay-gorod station near and if you keep walking southwest, you’ll get to the Red Square. But if you walk northwest, as it changes to Pokrovka, you can find a long street of activity for photography with its own interesting atmosphere.

power trip jacket liner

6. Tverskoy Boulevard

Tverskoy Boulevard is the oldest and longest boulevard in Moscow, beginning at the end of Nikitsky Boulevard, and finishing at Pushkin Square, a spot to come for activity itself. The boulevard is made up of two avenues, with pedestrian walkways in-between. You’ll find grass, shrubbery, trees, benches and more walking it’s almost kilometer length. Many people come here to enjoy some relaxation, walk their dog, or just to use it to walk wherever they’re going. Its center location also provides a nice place to walk with your camera near plenty of other spots you’ll want to check out anyway.

  • Start your morning walking around the Red Square (1), while exploring the surrounding area, including Nikolskaya Street
  • Then walk northwest to Patriarch’s Ponds (2) and slowly walk the pond and surrounding area with your camera
  • Next, walk east to the Pushkin Monument and stroll down Tverskoy Boulevard (6)
  • Once Tverskoy Boulevard (6) ends, it will turn into Nikitsky Boulevard. Follow this down until you get to the start of Old Arbat Street (3), across from Arbatskaya station
  • After you’re done walking down Old Arbat Street (3) for more street photography, spend some time checking out Moscow’s beautiful metro stations
  • To finish off the day with more street photography, get off the metro near Red Square (1) again, Maroseyka Street (5) or wherever you’re staying for the night.

3 Things I’ll Remember about Shooting in Moscow:

1. museum metro.

The Moscow metro system was the first underground railway system in the Soviet Union and today includes 203 stations across 340km of routes. The elaborate system has some of the deepest stations in the world too, with escalators that seem to go on forever. None of this is what makes it so special, though. Many of its stations feel like stepping inside a museum, making it without a doubt the most interesting and beautiful metro system I’ve been in.

power trip jacket liner

When built, Stalin wanted to make the metro stations “palaces for the people” with marble, chandeliers, and grand architecture. The best part is the variety of architecture and styles used, making many of the stations a completely different experience visually. You could easily spend a whole day traveling the stations and there are even tours available for people who wish to do just that. My advice, though, would be just to buy a ticket and hop on and off at different stations, while exploring different lines. The museum-like surrounding mixed with the crowds of characters can make for a great photography experience.

Since there are so many stations, here are some of my favorites to check out:

  • Novoslobodskaya
  • Mayakovskaya
  • Elektrozavodskaya
  • Komsomolskaya
  • Ploschad Revolyutsii
  • Dostoyevskaya
  • Prospekt Mira

2. Moscow is Big

It’s no secret that Moscow is a big city, but it can feel even bigger with how spread out much of it is. This is especially true if you compare it to cities outside of Asia. If I compared it to cities in Europe, I’d probably say only Istanbul would warrant more time to really discover the depths of this city. Most only explore around the Red Square and surrounding area, but that is such a small part of the city. Although, that central area does give you plenty to see on its own.

power trip jacket liner

Fortunately, I had a good friend living in the city to show me around, but it opened up my eyes even more to how much there is to discover in Moscow. It’s a big city with a variety of atmosphere that can take you from “east” to “west” and trendy to rugged depending on where you go. I’d imagine you’d have to live here a while to really know the city.

3. Cosmopolitan Mix of East meets West

Modern skyscrapers mixed with amazing architecture, a world-class metro system with museum-like beauty, trendy fashion and chic clubs, Moscow is a rich mix of Russian culture and history in a more western cosmopolitan package. There is a push to keep the Russian culture, while also pushing forward with a modern metropolis the whole world will envy. This comes with an impressive skyline, that continues to grow, and endless modernities, but with soviet nostalgia and atmosphere mixed in for good measure.

power trip jacket liner

Mixed in with this grand western cosmopolitan atmosphere, is a strong national pride in Russia. This includes their famous leader, Vladimir Putin. Maybe no other place will you see a country’s leader more often. All over, from the pricey tourist shops to the underground walkway stalls, you’ll find goods with Putin’s likeness covering them. From t-shirts to magnets to Matryoshka dolls. There’s a strong national pride that can be seen around the city, which also extends to their leader. Moscow is many things. It’s East meets West, modernizations meets Soviet era, and a whole lot more.

What To Do For a Street Photography Break?:

Eat at a stolovaya.

Stolovayas are Russian cafeterias that became popular in the Soviet days. You grab a tray and walk down the line of freshly prepared local dishes, and select whatever you want from the chefs. They’re usually inexpensive and a much better value than restaurants, while giving you the opportunity to try from a wide selection of everyday Russian food. They’re also very tasty. I always include some borsch on my tray and go from there. The places themselves are all over Moscow and usually come with Soviet-era aesthetics to complete the experience.

Street Safety Score: 7

*As always, no place is completely safe! So when I talk about safety, I’m speaking in general comparison to other places. Always take precaution, be smart, observe your surroundings and trust your instincts anywhere you go!

Being the 2nd largest city in Europe with over 12 million people, you’re going to have your dangerous areas, but for the most part, it feels safe walking around. Russia is statistically higher in crime compared to most of Europe, but this generally doesn’t apply to tourists and visitors. Around the Red Square and surrounding city center, you should feel completely safe walking around. Pick pocketing can happen, but no more than other touristic places. I always explore Moscow freely without coming across too much to worry about. It’s a spread out city, though, so of course it matters where you are. Just use basic street smarts, know where you are and Moscow shouldn’t give you a problem.

power trip jacket liner

People’s Reaction Score: 7

Moscow is fast paced, big city life, which usually means people aren’t too concerned with you, or your camera. I don’t find people notice or pay much attention to me when I’m out taking photos in Moscow. For the most part, people just go about their day. You shouldn’t get too many looks or concern. But it can depend on the area you are in. The more you stick out, the more you might get noticed with suspicions. I’ve never had any problems in Moscow, or Russia, but just be careful who you’re taking a photo of if you get out of the city center. Other than that, it’s about average for reactions.

Street Tips:

Learn the alphabet .

Much of Moscow, including the metro system, doesn’t use english. The Russian alphabet uses letters from the Cyrillic script, which if you aren’t familiar with it and don’t know the sounds, can be hard to decipher the words. This is most important for street names and metro stops when trying to get around. It can save confusion and make it easier getting around if you learn the basic alphabet. At the very least then, you can sound out the words to see which are similar in the english conversion, which can help matching them to maps. When out shooting street photography, getting around is as important as anything. So save yourself some time and frustration by learning the Russian Alphabet.

power trip jacket liner

Use the metro

While Saint-Petersburg feels very walkable for a city its size, Moscow can feel very spread out, even for its bigger size. Outside of the Red Square area, you can have plenty of walking before getting anywhere very interesting, so you’ll need to take the metro a lot if you really want to explore the city. Maps are deceiving here too, it will always be further than it looks.

power trip jacket liner

Another reason it’s less walkable than Saint-Petersburg is its completely different set-up. Moscow’s streets are mostly contstructed in rings with narrow, winding streets in-between. This is common with medieval city cities that used to be confined by walls, but you usually don’t have it in a city this massive. Saint-Petersburg has a more grid-like pattern that also uses the canals to help you know your way around. When it comes to navigating on foot in Moscow, it can be more difficult, so bring a map and take the metro when needed. It’s why Moscow’s metro carries more passengers per day than the London and Paris subways combined.

Explore other areas if you have time

Moscow is really big. While most people stay around the Red Square within the Boulevard Ring, there’s so much more to the city. I covered some other spots outside of this circle, but if you really want to see the city, you’ll need time. If you do have time, some other areas I’d check out first are Zamoskvarechye, along some of the south and western Moscow.

Inspiration:

For some more inspiration, you can look through the Street Photography of Moscow photographer Artem Zhitenev  and check out 33 of my photos taken in Moscow .

Conclusion:

Moscow’s name brings a certain mystique, but once you’re there it might bring a different atmosphere than you expect. It’s big and sprawling, but beautiful in many ways. It can feel like a European capital on a grand scale, but you can definitely find its Russian side in there.

power trip jacket liner

The urban sprawl of Moscow can be intimidating, but give it enough time and you’ll be rewarded with plenty to discover. All with the world’s best metro system to take you around.

I hope this guide can help you start to experience some of what Moscow contains. So grab your camera and capture all that Moscow has to offer for Street Photography!

Important things to know when planning a trip to Moscow

The best time to plan a trip to Moscow is April-May and September-October . During these months temperatures are (generally) quite comfortable, though even in April there can be a bit of snow! The summer months are hot, both in regard to temperature as well as activities in the city. While it's a nice time to visit, it's also the busiest time of the year to visit Moscow. Hotel prices reflect this as well and summer definitely isn't a great time for budget travelers to visit Moscow. Winter in Moscow is cold, and I mean seriously cold (-15°C isn't rare). However, if you can withstand the subzero temperatures and freezing winds, it can be a magical time to visit. A snow-covered St. Basil’s Cathedral is a sight you will never forget. Keep in mind that days are short in winter and be sure to bring plenty of warm winter clothes!

The official currency in Russia is the Russian Ruble (₽ or RUB). Here you can find the current exchange rates, at the time of writing €1 is approximately 70RUB and $1 is around 62RUB.

Yes, you probably do. Getting a visa for Russia requires a bit of time and effort. You need to fill out several forms and provide a detailed travel itinerary and information about your accommodation. Also, you will need a Visa Support Letter which can be provided by your travel agency or your hotel. Depending on your nationality, there may be additional requirements, please refer to the information provided on the website of your country's Embassy in Russia.

While most of the things to see in Moscow listed in this post are within walking distance of each other, sometimes you will have to travel a bit further afield. The best way to get around in Moscow is by metro. It's cheap and efficient and a sightseeing activity in itself, because Moscow has the most beautiful metro stations in the world ! Among the most exquisitely decorated stations are Komsomolskaya, Novoslobodskaya, Mayakovskaya, Taganskaya, and Prospect Mira Station, but there are many more worthwhile stations to be found in the Moscow underground. You can purchase a single ticket from one of the ticket machines or get a rechargeable Troika Card when you plan on taking the metro several times. Read more details on how to use the Moscow metro here . If you prefer to get around by taxi, that's possible too. We used the Gett app to order a taxi (similar to Uber) to avoid confusion about our intended destination and having to negotiate in Russian. A convenient extra for families is the Gett Kids option, these cars are outfitted with a car seat.

Moscow itinerary day 1

The Red Square Moscow Russia

There is no better place to start your first day in Moscow, than at the world-famous Red Square.

This square is considered the central square of Moscow, not just because all the major streets start here, but also because no matter where you look when standing on this square, there are historic buildings all around.

Starting with the impressive GUM store and going clockwise, there is the colorful Saint Basil's Cathedral, the Kremlin, Lenin's Mausoleum, the State Historical Museum, and the Kazan Cathedral.

However, before entering any of these Moscow must-see attractions, allow yourself a moment to take in the view and let it sink in that you're standing on historical grounds (and a UNESCO site).

The Red Square was the official address of the Soviet government and played an important part in history. Many military parades have been held (and are still being held) here. It's the place where protests have taken place, as well as high-profile concerts from famous international artists.

All in all, it's one of the places in Moscow you can't miss during your Moscow city trip!

Red Square with GUM department store in Moscow

Yulia from That's What She Had: it might seem like visiting a department store is not something you’d do on the first visit to Russia’s capital.

But GUM is not like any other department store and is well worth your time, if only for its unique architecture.

First of all, it’s located right on Red Square which makes it an easy stop on your Moscow trip itinerary. Second, GUM is not a simple mall, but an institution built in the late XIX century.

The abbreviation stands for  Glavniy Universalniy Magazin or Main Universal Store. Its impressive facade extends for over 240 meters along the eastern side of Red Square.

Inside you’ll find a beautiful glass ceiling supported by a metal framework, not unlike the ones found in the old train stations of Great Britain.

power trip jacket liner

While shopping in GUM will cost you an arm and a leg, there’s one reason why tourists and locals come here anyways:  traditional Russian food  at Stolovaya #57. Stolovaya is Russian for canteen and this is where you can get your  pelmeni , borsch , and  pirozhki  fix!

Afterward, don’t forget to get the famous  plombir  ice cream in one of the kiosks on the ground floor.

Saint Basil's Cathedral Moscow

Saint Basil's Cathedral with its colorful domes is easily recognizable and one of the most popular Moscow tourist attractions. The building, built on orders from Ivan the Terrible, was completed in 1561 to commemorate the victory over Kazan and Astrakhan.

Until the construction of Ivan the Great Bell Tower (which can be found within the walls of the Kremlin), it was the tallest building in Moscow.

The design of St. Basil's Cathedral is truly unique; it's shaped like the flame of a bonfire and not one building in a similar style can be found in the whole of Russia.

A legend tells the story of how Ivan the Terrible had the architects of the Cathedral blinded so they could never build anything comparable.

This is a myth, however, but the fact remains that Saint Basil's Cathedral is one of a kind and it's not surprising it has become the symbol of Russia.

Lenin Mausoleum Moscow Russia

Wendy from The Nomadic Vegan: Lenin Mausoleum is hard to miss. It's a stepped-pyramid construction that sits right at the base of the Kremlin walls on the western side of Red Square.

Entrance is free but note that opening hours are quite limited, with visiting hours lasting only from 10 am to 1 pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

If seeing Lenin's embalmed body is important to you, be sure to take this into account when planning your itinerary in Moscow.

One of my  top tips for travelers to Russia  is to arrive early, well before the mausoleum opens, as the queue is usually quite long. However, usually, the queue does move pretty quickly.

This is especially true now that they have lifted the ban on bags and cameras.

It used to be that all cameras, smartphones, and bags of any size had to be checked at a left-luggage office nearby. But now you can bring a small handbag or backpack as well as your camera and phone.

Photography inside the mausoleum is still strictly forbidden, but you are allowed to take photos of the graves of various other important Russian figures that line the path leading to the mausoleum.

Once you finally enter the mausoleum, the atmosphere is surprisingly peaceful and uncrowded. It doesn't feel nearly as rushed as when visiting Mao Ze Dong's tomb in Beijing or Ho Chi Minh's body in Hanoi , for example.

The illumination of the body is very well done and would make for superb photography if it wasn't forbidden. As an added bonus, just after you exit, you'll see the grave of Joseph Stalin outside.

State Historical Museum Moscow

Rai from A Rai Of Light: the imposing crimson building at the northern end of the Red Square is the State Historical Museum.

By decree of Alexander III, the museum was built with the support of Russian historians, philosophers, and artists. The red brick building, dating from 1875, was designed in the Russian revival style by Vladimir Shervud.

The National Museum of Russia houses a collection of over four million items, devoted to the history of the country's ancient and imperial period.

The exhibitions include many items previously owned by members of the Romanov dynasty, such as documents, artwork, personal items, furnishings, and decorations from the palace interiors.

Another exhibit features relics of the prehistoric tribes that once inhabited this region.

Notable items include ancient manuscripts, birch-bark scrolls, a longboat excavated from the banks of the Volga River, and the largest coin collection in Russia, sourced from the museums in St Petersburg .

The State Historical Museum is open daily from 10 am to 6 pm. The entrance fee is 700₽ per adult.

Moscow itinerary day 2

Cathedral Square inside the Kremlin

When listing the best Moscow things to do, one cannot miss the Kremlin! The Kremlin houses the current seat of power in Russia and has done so for several decades.

Within its walls, the offices of the Russian Government can be found. During Soviet rule, the Kremlin was where all the important decisions were made but its history goes back for many centuries.

The first mention of the Kremlin in history books was in 1147, however, the current citadel dates from the 16th century.

The Kremlin is one of the major fortifications found in Europe, with walls that are up to 6.5 meters thick and 19 meters high in particular sections.

Inside the complex, there are many government buildings, however, these aren't accessible to the public.

Around Cathedral Square you'll find (as the name suggests) many churches and cathedrals, such as the Cathedral of the Archangel, Annunciation Cathedral, the Church of Laying Our Lady's Holy Robe, and Ivan the Great Bell-Tower.

While Cathedral Square is definitely worth visiting, the highlight of the Kremlin is a visit to the Armoury.

Inside you can find an impressive collection of Faberge eggs, beautiful dresses worn by Catherine the Great, intricately decorated thrones used by the Tsars, and much more. Unfortunately, photography is forbidden inside the Armoury.

Practical information about visiting the Kremlin

In order to visit both Cathedral Square and the Armoury, you will have to buy two separate tickets. A ticket to Cathedral Square costs 700₽ and a ticket to the Armoury is 1000₽. Prices mentioned are for adults, children below 16 years old are free.

Tickets can be bought at the ticket office onsite on the same day, however, there's no guarantee tickets will be available, especially during peak season.

Conveniently, tickets can be bought online as well, which is highly advisable if you want to make sure you'll be able to visit the Kremlin during your city trip to Moscow.

How much time to spend at the Kremlin

Be sure to allow plenty of time to explore the Kremlin, at least half a day but it's easy to spend more time as there is so much to see.

Please note there isn't any food sold inside the Kremlin, so bring a snack and enough water (especially in summer when it can get pretty hot).

Luggage storage

Backpacks aren't allowed inside the Kremlin, they can be stored (for free) in the cloakroom, but you can bring your camera and a small purse.

We could also take our Babyzen Yoyo stroller inside, which was very convenient as our 10-month-old son could take a nap while we explored the sights.

Cathedral of Christ the Saviour Moscow

After the original Cathedral of Christ the Saviour was demolished by Stalin in 1931, a new version was completed in 2000.

The imposing building is the tallest Orthodox Christian church in the world (103 meters high), and is beautiful on the outside as well as on the inside.

Visiting the Cathedral is free of charge and it's open any day of the week from 10 am to 5 pm (except on Mondays when the opening hours are 1 to 5 pm).

When visiting the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour it's important to dress appropriately. For men, this means no shorts or tank tops.

Women can't enter with mini skirts or shorts, strap tops, or anything too revealing. Also, women are advised to cover their heads with a scarf as a sign of respect.

Inside the Cathedral photography isn't allowed, but believe me when I say there is plenty to see. There are beautiful frescoes, colorful icons, impressive statues, and other vivid decorations.

For a beautiful view over Moscow, walk up the stairs to the 40-meter high observation deck (entrance fee 400₽).

Visit Gorky Park

Gorky Park ice skating Moscow Russia

Helen from Holidays from Hels : Gorky Park, named after the Soviet writer Maxim Gorky, has recently undergone extensive regeneration to become Moscow's central leisure hub for young Muscovites.

Every day of the week you can find many Moscow residents strolling along the banks of the river in the summer, hiring bikes, picnicking on the grass, or dining at one of the many restaurants.

Open-air cinemas, petanque, and ping pong are all on offer. Not to be missed is the iconic white stone entranceway and museum, complete with columns carved with Soviet hammers and sickles.

In winter, look out for the ducks waddling across the frozen Moskva River, and watch boats attempting to navigate through the cracked ice. However, the real winter highlight is to try ice skating on one of the biggest rinks in Europe!

Ice skating in Gorky Park

The park’s maze of pedestrian pathways is transformed into one huge skating rink, which can play host to up to four thousand skaters.

Not surprisingly, Russians are talented ice skaters and there is a good chance you will find yourself next to a pirouetting ballerina.

Handily, you will find you will already be wearing most of what you need – gloves, hat, scarf, and thick socks and you can hire skates on-site. Lockers are included in the price if you don’t fancy skating with your day pack.

Disco tunes fill the air, and the whole arena is backlit in spectacular neon lights. Rest your weary legs and warm up at one of the cafes dotted along the frozen pathways, with the added bonus of not having to take off your skates.

Opening times

The rink is open from 10 am until 11 pm on weekdays and until midnight at weekends but closes between 3 and 5 pm. Like most attractions in Moscow, the rink is closed on Mondays.

The prices range from 350-650₽ and go up in the evening, which is the best time for the light show. Arriving at 5 pm, just as the rink opens for the evening session will give you time to find your ice legs before it fills up with more confident skaters.

Whilst waiting for the rink to open, try out the nearby tubing track where you can shoot down a snowy hill on an inflatable ring repeatedly for a very enjoyable half an hour!

How to get to Gorky Park by metro

The nearest metro is Park Kultury Station, on the other side of the river. As always, check out in advance what this looks like in the Russian Alphabet so you know when to get off!

Bolshoi Theatre

Bolshoi Theater Moscow

James Ian at Travel Collecting : one of the best places to go in Moscow is the famous Bolshoi Theater, located only a short walk from Red square. Bolshoy means big in Russian, and the theatre is not only big but also beautiful.

There are two ways to see the theater: on a guided tour or by watching a performance .

Take a guided tour

  • English tours are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 11:30 am. Tickets for these tours can be bought (on the same day) at the ticket office located in the Historic building of the theatre (door #12).
  • A ticket costs 2000₽ per person, tours last one hour, and the number of people on a tour is limited to a maximum of 20. The tour takes you inside the theater and to the historic main stage.

Watch a performance

My favorite way to see the theater, though, is to enjoy a performance and experience the theater as a patron.

The entrance is a little underwhelming when you first arrive, the street lobby is small and quite plain and you will be immediately directed up to your floor.

There are helpful attendants on each floor to guide you to the correct door. Arrive a little early and head up to the Grand Salon on the top floor where you can enjoy a glass of champagne while people-watching (Russians dress up for the theater).

Then head to your seat and take in the stunning theater before enjoying the famous Bolshoi Ballet or another performance.

Be sure to book a show at the historic stage, there is a modern stage as well but that isn't nearly as much fun.

Moscow itinerary day 3

Izmailovsky Market Moscow

Karen from WanderlustingK : one of the most interesting Moscow places to visit is the Izmailovsky Market .

This flea market and tourist attraction a bit outside of the tourist center is a recreation of a Tzar’s Palace, known as a Kremlin, produced in a colorful 16th-century style.

The market is filled with tiny stalls that sell everything from snacks to kitsch to authentic items from Soviet times such as hats, pins, and other pieces of memorabilia.

You'll also find authentic antiques such as vases, paintings, and other religious items if you're looking to splurge within the interior parts of the market.

Negotiating in English is not always possible as many vendors only speak Russian, so be sure to practice your Russian numbers and see how well you can do with haggling.

It's important to carry cash when you visit given that many vendors do not accept cards. We ended up purchasing a series of hats at the market, along with a beautiful hot tea glass with a metal holder with a typical Russian scene.

Elsewhere in the market, you’ll also find a few tourist shops that sell typical Russian products. It takes a few hours to see the market in full, so arrive early as the best items go quickly!

Hallway in Bunker 42 Moscow

Lindsey from Have Clothes, Will Travel : Bunker-42 was once a top-secret, Soviet military complex. Stalin commissioned its construction after the United States succeeded in creating a nuclear bomb.

An impressive 65 meters (or about 213 feet) underground, was the desired depth to protect Russia’s top officials from a nuclear attack.

Bunker 42 became operational in 1954. Fortunately, it was never needed for its true purpose, and instead it was used as the command center of strategic bombers for nearly 30 years.

Nowadays it's a museum dedicated to the Cold War and visiting is a truly unique experience!

You will need to join a tour in order to see the museum. You can call ahead to book your tour (the number is: +7 499 703-44-55), there are several English tours throughout the day that are held at 13:30, 16:30, and 18:30 (the price is 2200₽).

On Mondays, there is an extra tour at 17:30, which lasts an additional 30 minutes and costs 2800₽ per person. There is also the option to book a private tour. However, I am unsure of the price for this.

You will have to wait until exactly 15 minutes before your tour begins before you'll be admitted inside. After paying for your tickets and a quick restroom stop you will descend 65 meters underground…

Another option for visiting Bunker-42, if you would rather not do the tour, is to visit the restaurant inside Bunker-42. Actually, I highly recommend visiting the restaurant before or after a tour as well!

While the food is not that great, it’s worth visiting for a drink. The restaurant is also located within the bunker and is decorated in the old Soviet style.

From time to time there will be live performances and visiting Bunker 42 is definitely an experience worth having while in Moscow! After all, how many people can say they've had a drink in a top-secret Soviet military bunker?

If you’re visiting Moscow during peak season (June-July-August), it would be worth making a reservation, to avoid having to wait. Otherwise, I would not say you need to worry about a reservation at the restaurant.

Bunker-42 is a short cab ride away from Red Square (10-15 minutes). But I recommend taking the metro to get there. The closest station is Taganskaya, which is a beautiful metro station very much worth visiting.

Pedestrian boardwalk in Park Zaryad'ye (also called Zaryadye Park)

Park Zaryad'ye or Zaryadye Park is a lovely place for a stroll and a nice place to relax after a day of sightseeing in Moscow, especially when exploring Moscow with kids.

There are many things to see and do in this park, but I recommend starting your visit at The River Overlook , a 70-meter-long boardwalk with beautiful views over the river and the Kremlin.

Other interesting places to visit in Zaryadye Park are the Ice Cave, The Museum of Nature, and The Glass Crust. But most importantly, do as the Muscovites do and find yourself a nice place in the park to sit down and relax.

Enjoy the view, do some people-watching, and take a moment to think back about all the Moscow top sights you've seen in the past couple of days.

View from Zaryadye Park Moscow

This 3-star hotel is one of the best budget Moscow hotels and is all about location! From the hotel, it's just a 10-minute walk to the Kremlin and only 600 meters to the Christ the Savior Cathedral.

Set in a historic 19th-century mansion, the hotel features classic rooms with ensuite bathrooms.

The staff is friendly and there is a metro station nearby (Borovitskaya), making it easy to get to the Moscow attractions a bit further afield.

Luxury hotel in Moscow: Hotel National Moscow

power trip jacket liner

Hotel National is potentially the best Moscow hotel. It's a gorgeous 5-star hotel located just a stone's throw away from the Bolshoi Theater, the Red Square, and the Kremlin.

The building was designed by architect Alexander Ivanov and completed in 1903 and has been welcoming international travelers ever since.

With its imperial architecture, luxury design, and charming classic rooms (some with a view of the Kremlin!), the Hotel National is a unique property.

Furthermore, you can enjoy an indoor pool, sauna, and fitness center as well as the well-reviewed Beluga restaurant that serves both Russian and European dishes.

While this hotel doesn't come cheap, your stay at the Hotel National will make your trip to Moscow an unforgettable experience.
