A 1-year-old infant in their stroller was stabbed in a random attack in Philadelphia
An infant is one of two victims in a series of Philadelphia , Pennsylvania stabbings on Saturday.
A series of two stabbings struck the Philadelphia area on Saturday, Philadelphia Police Captain Frank Banford said. Local police have since arrested a suspect: 29-year-old Takeira Hester. The woman has previously been arrested for aggravated assault and currently has a warrant out for her in New York City for the same charge, Mr Banford said.
The incidents began at 8 am in the Center City neighbourhood, when police say Ms Hester charged a 24-year-old woman and stabbed he r twice before leaving. Just a few hours later, police say Ms Hester then approached two parents pushing twin one-year-olds in a stroller, stabbing one of the infants in each arm before fleeing again.
One of the parents then pursued the suspect for some amount of time, Mr Banford said. The infant is at a local hospital in stable condition, the police captain told reporters on Saturday evening. He did not provide an update on the 24-year-old’s condition.
Mr Banford also said these attacks were random.
“[The suspect] runs up, quick stab, runs,” he told reporters. “And the second thing was the same thing, nothing was said and it was a completely random act.”
Philadelphia had already faced a challenging week in local violence. On Wednesday, three people were shot at an Eid al-Fitr festival in west Philadelphia . Police arrested five suspects. The victims included two juveniles — one of whom was shot by a police officer — and a 22-year-old man. No lives were lost.
One of those arrested, 21-year-old Kahbir Oglesby Hicks, has been charged in connection with the shooting, local outlet Fox29 reports.
“Gun violence is never acceptable, but to see it victimize people who gathered for a Ramadan event or any religious event is especially heartbreaking,” Congressman Dwight Evans, who represents the area, said in a statement earlier this week.
“We must all continue working for change, because thoughts & prayers are not enough,” he continued.

Concocting fake win-win trades for Vikings, Cowboys, Chiefs, Bills, Falcons | Zero Blitz
Jason Fitz and Frank Schwab hop in the lap to concoct the best blockbuster trades possible that are a win-win for both sides. First, the dynamic duo start with the news that Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Devonta Smith is receiving a big-time contract extension, meaning the Eagles are now paying two wideouts $25M annually. Can they manage to keep up the talent and depth on their roster with cap numbers like that? In other news, the New York Jets announced they're wearing their 1980s throwbacks full-time next season, which makes Frank a very happy man. Fitz and Frank have some fake trades they'd like to see, and they go one-by-one down the list as they send Justin Jefferson to the Buffalo Bills (and Arizona Cardinals), the Minnesota Vikings up to fifth overall, Brandon Aiyuk to the Los Angeles Chargers, Tee Higgins to the Kansas City Chiefs, Dak Prescott to the Minnesota Vikings, Brock Bowers to Kansas City and Micah Parsons to the Atlanta Falcons. Woman charged with attempted murder in 'random' stabbing of 1-year-old boy in Philadelphia
A woman in custody following the "random" stabbing of a 1-year-old boy in Philadelphia was formally charged Sunday with attempted murder, the district attorney's spokesperson said.
Takeira Hester, 29, was arrested after a backpack left at the scene of the attack led authorities to her, authorities have said.
Philadelphia police called her both a person of interest and a suspect, but Dustin M. Slaughter, a spokesperson for the Philadelphia district attorney, said she has now been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and "related charges."
The case alleges "three assaults," he said, declining to elaborate.
The boy's twin was riding in the same double stroller and appeared to be targeted but unharmed, police said.
Police described the victim of a previous attack only as a 24-year-old woman who survived after she was stabbed twice about 8 a.m. Saturday in Philadelphia's Center City. The assailant fled.
A few hours later, officials said, a woman approached the twins in the double stroller at the south end of Center City, stabbing the 1-year-old boy twice, once in each arm, before fleeing, police said.
“It looked like this female just rushed up to them, nothing was said, completely random, tried to stab both children but got one child in each arm," Police Capt. Frank Banford said at a news conference.
He said the weapon appeared to be a long kitchen knife. It hasn’t been recovered.
The toddlers' father gave chase, and, as the woman fled, she dropped a black bag, Banford said.
The toddler was stabilized at a hospital, police said.
Contents of the bag led police to the woman they initially identified as a person of interest, Banford said. It also contained a coat police believe the attacker wore in the first stabbing Saturday, he said.
Investigators were trying to determine a motive, Banford said. And they want to know why Hester was in Philadelphia.
Hester had an active aggravated assault warrant from New York City, he said. Manhattan court records didn't turn up cases for Hester, and authorities in New York City didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.

Woman charged in stabbings of 24-year-old, 1-year-old in Center City, police say
Takeira hester, 28, was arrested saturday in connection with the separate stabbings, which police described as random..
A 28-year-old woman has been arrested and charged following two separate, 'random,' stabbings in Center City on Saturday that injured a 24-year-old woman and a 1-year-old boy, police say.
UPDATE (Monday): Takeira Hester, 28, was arrested on Saturday at 7:19 p.m. on the 400 block of N. 63rd Street. She was charged with several counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault and other related charges.
See the original story below.
A person of interest is in custody following two separate stabbings in Center City on Saturday that injured a 24-year-old woman and a 1-year-old boy, police say.
Police took the person of interest into custody shortly before 7:30 p.m., NBC10 reported. Police have not revealed the identity of the individual in custody. During a press conference Saturday evening, Philadelphia Police Captain Frank Banford referred to Takeira Hester as a possible suspect. Hester has a warrant out of New York City for aggravated assault charges and was also previously arrested for aggravated assault, police say. Police said they were not sure whether Hester had ties to Philadelphia.

The first stabbing on Saturday happened at 7:57 a.m. on the 1300 block of Chancellor Street, according to police. A 24-year-old female was walking, when another female "rushed up to her" and stabbed her, according to Banford. The 24-year-old was hit in the chest and the hand before the other female "took off." Banford referred to the attack as "completely random."
The victim was transported to Jefferson University Hospital, 6ABC reported, where she was treated and later released. Following that stabbing, police put out a patrol alert to officers.
Then, at 12:45 p.m., the second stabbing took place on the 300 block of S. 18th Street. Two parents were walking their 1-year-old twins in a stroller when one of the boys was stabbed in both arms.
"It looked like this female just rushed up to them, nothing was said, complete random, tried to stab both children," Banford said.
Medics transported the child that was stabbed to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia , and police said he is in stable condition.
The injured baby's father gave chase after the stabbing. During the chase, the female offender dropped her bag, according to police. Authorities were able to recover information inside the bag that helped lead them to a potential suspect. They also said they found the coat that the female attacker was wearing from the first scene inside the bag.
Police determined that the same woman was involved in both attacks. She was armed with a weapon that Banford described as a "long knife," possibly a kitchen knife.
The second stabbing occurred outside Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel (BZBI) synagogue. Officials from the synagogue told 6ABC that the attack near its property was not antisemitic.

The children's father chased after the suspect, who dropped her handbag but was able to flee the scene, according to police. That handbag is now being used in the investigation.

Officers said in a press conference on Saturday that both attacks appear to be random.
In a statement to Action News, the synagogue also confirmed the attack near its property was not antisemitic.

" The best gifts at this age include construction toys that allow them to build and problem-solve — think about plastic interlocking blocks, gear toys, domino runs, magnet tiles and other similar choices," Parlakian says. "If your child already has wooden blocks, consider expanding the set with new block types like turrets, arches and cylinders to spark their building play. Pretend play props, like costumes, a tea set or construction tools encourage role-playing. With more control over their fine motor skills, art supplies like paints and brushes, markers and other similar items can also be a big hit. And finally, simple board games and activities like dominoes and memory cards are also fun for preschoolers."
The Good Housekeeping Institute has tested toys in all of these categories and more, looking for ones that are safe to use, will last stand up to rough play and — most importantly — won't annoy parents. Then they hand their favorites over to real 4-year-olds for the true test, making sure they are ones kids will go back to again and again. Woman charged with stabbing 1-year-old in Rittenhouse Square and attacking a 24-year-old earlier in the day
Philadelphia Police said Takeira Hester stabbed the 1-year-old boy as he was being pushed in a stroller by his parents, next to his twin.
A New York woman who police say stabbed a 1-year-old boy as his parents pushed him and his twin in a stroller outside a synagogue near Rittenhouse Square on Saturday has been charged with attempted murder and related crimes, police said Monday.
Takeira Hester, 28, was also charged with stabbing a 24-year-old woman who was walking on Chancellor Street earlier in the day, six blocks away from where the child was stabbed, said Deputy Police Commissioner Frank Vanore.
Police described both incidents as “completely random attacks.” In both cases, they said, the weapon Hester used was a long knife.
Hester is being held on $4 million bail, said Assistant District Attorney Amanda Hedrick. Hester was also being held on $500,000 bail in connection with a bench warrant for a charge of assault with a deadly weapon out of New York, Hedrick said.
A spokesperson for the District Attorney’s Office did not immediately provide details on the New York crime.
At 7:57 a.m. Saturday, police said, a 24-year-old woman was walking east on the 1300 block of Chancellor Street when Hester stabbed her in the chest and hand and fled.
Hours later, police said, Hester approached a couple outside Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel on South 18th Street around 12 p.m and stabbed the 1-year-old in both arms.
The children’s father chased after Hester, police said, and she dropped a black bag containing a coat the attacker in the first stabbing appeared to be wearing in surveillance footage.
After police put out an alert with a description of the assailant, Hester was arrested Sunday on the 400 block of North 63rd Street, authorities said.
Police said the assault outside the synagogue was not antisemitic, and Lynne Balaban, the synagogue’s executive director reiterated that in a message to congregants Saturday. She said police told synagogue officials the attacker was known to authorities and had been experiencing a mental health crisis.
The child was taken to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was listed in stable condition, police said. The woman was initially listed in stable condition at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and later released.

According to the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, Takeira Hester, 29. has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault after she stabbed a woman and a baby boy in separate incidents on Saturday in Center City.
The DA's office said Sunday night that Hester has also been charged in a third attack on another individual, however, officials did not immediately provide further information on this additional incident.

Officials said the first incident was alleged to have happened shortly before 8 a.m. on Saturday when a 24-year-old woman was stabbed by an attacker -- who officials now believe was Hester -- as she walked along the 1300 block of Chancellor Street.
The victim was stabbed in her chest and hand before the attacker fled, officials said.
That woman was taken to a nearby hospital and, officials said, she was treated and released.

Yet, a few hours later, around noon, officials said the same attacker is believed to have assaulted a couple who was walking with their 1-year-old twin children in a stroller along the 300 block of South 18th Street. In that incident officials claim Hester ran up to the couple and stabbed one of the babies -- a 1-year-old boy -- in both of his arms before running off as she was chased by the child's father.
Following that incident, Hester is believed to have left behind a bag at the scene, officials said.
Officials claimed that Hester was armed with, what appeared to be, a large kitchen knife during these incidents.
Also, police said, Hester had a warrant out of New York City in connection to an aggravated assault that occurred a few days prior.
Hester has been in police custody since Saturday night. She is currently being held on $4 million bail.

Philadelphia police said 29-year-old Takeira Hester took to the streets of the city this past weekend armed with a kitchen knife. First, she stabbed a 24-year-old woman in the chest Saturday morning. After fleeing that scene, she approached two twin boys sitting in their double stroller in Center City. Police said Hester stabbed one of the boys , once in each arm before being chased down by the toddler’s father.
Police said Hester left a black backpack on the ground which led police to identify her as their suspect. She was taken into custody Saturday afternoon.

The case alleges “three assaults,” he said, declining to elaborate. “It looked like this female just rushed up to them, nothing was said, completely random, tried to stab both children but got one child in each arm,” Police Capt. Frank Banford said at a news conference. Contents of the bag led police to the woman they initially identified as a person of interest, Banford said. It also contained a coat police believe the attacker wore in the first stabbing Saturday, he said.
Luckily, the baby was stabilized at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, according to police. Investigators are still trying to discover the potential motive for the stabbings, but police said they appeared to be at random. However, Hester’s record suggests she had a violent behavior pattern prior to this.
The report says Hester had an active warrant for an aggravated assault charge from New York at the time of her arrest. She’s now facing charges in Pennsylvania for attempted murder and aggravated assault.

Woman stabs one-year-old child in a stroller in front of his parents on a Philadelphia street
A female, who’s accused of stabbing a 1-year-old boy in a stroller in front of his parents on a Philadelphia street Saturday — as well as a 24-year-old woman on a different street hours earlier — was out on bail in connection with a 2022 stabbing in New York City.
Takeira Hester, 28, was out on bail when she missed her Thursday hearing in an assault case for allegedly stabbing a 31-year-old man who tried to break up a fight between Hester and another woman on a lower Manhattan train in 2022, authorities told the New York Post.
Hester apparently made it down to Philadelphia just two days later, where officials said she engaged in two knife attacks. Around 8:30 a.m. a 24-year-old woman suffered stab wounds to her chest and finger on the 1300 block of Chancellor Street, WTXF-TV reported.
A few hours later, a mother and father were walking with their twins using a stroller outside Temple Beth Zion-Beth Israel when police said a woman rushed up and stabbed one of the children, the station said.
“It looked like this female just rushed up to them and nothing was said – completely random,” Philadelphia Police Capt. Frank Banford told reporters Saturday, according to the Post. “[She] tried to stab both children but got one child…in each arm.”
The children’s father ran after the attacker, who got away but left behind a bag that contained enough clues to help cops track her down, Banford told the paper.
Philadelphia police told Blaze News they arrested Hester around 7:19 p.m. Saturday in the 400 block of North 63rd Street and charged her with attempted murder, aggravated assault, possession of instruments of crime, and recklessly endangering another person.
Both stabbing victims — the 24-year-old woman and the 1-year-old boy — reportedly were in stable condition, WTXF said. Banford told the Post that Hester used a “long knife” in both Philadelphia attacks. Hester was being held on $4 million bail, WCAU reported.

I packed for a 2-week vacation in a van using tips from people who live in one full time. It made my journey so much smoother.
Posted: December 17, 2023 | Last updated: December 18, 2023
- I embarked on a two-week van trip and turned to the experts for packing advice.
- People living out of vans, RVs, and travel trailers gave me some tips.
- They suggested I pack a way to jumpstart the van, and do my best to avoid overpacking.
Packing for my first van trip didn't start the night before, or even two days ahead of time — it was closer to two weeks before my van adventure.
That's because I wanted to make sure I'd be prepared for all that I would encounter along the road . And part of that preparation involved asking people living out of vans what I should be packing.
They delivered with their advice, so I'm passing on their packing tips for anyone else planning a similar trip.
With limited water on the road, one person recommended that I bring a collapsible water jug on my van trip.
The van I'd rented for two weeks came from the rental company Native Campervans . Thankfully, the 75-square-foot space had practically everything I needed. There was a stove, sink, bed, and plenty of room for storage.
The van also had a seven-gallon tank for water. While some vans are equipped with much larger tanks, I figured stopping to fill it up with water a few times throughout my trip wouldn't be too challenging.
But Christian Schaffer , who has lived in a van for more than four years, advised bringing a collapsible water jug. She said I might use more water than I predicted, so having a few backup gallons could help me avoid a stop or two.
"A thing that's kind of helpful is those big collapsible water jugs that you can fill up just so that you have extra to go off-grid," Schaffer, 38, told BI. "And they pack down really small when you're not using them."
While Casey Hogan said it might seem obvious to travel with a first-aid kit, she said she often sees people without one.
Casey Hogan , a 31-year-old living in a 2019 Ford Transit, reminded me that van life can feel similar to camping. Plus, I'd be doing activities like hiking and climbing, where things could go wrong.
Hogan said she always packs with emergencies in mind. "I always travel with and hike with the first aid kit," Hogan said.
That way, she's prepared if something goes awry out in the wilderness.
Others said emergency items like a portable jump starter and an external battery are essential.
Navod McNeil told BI that he also considers safety when it comes to packing for a van trip in his Ford Transit.
The 30-year-old said that there have been plenty of times when something went wrong with his van, and one common problem was a dead battery.
So he started packing a portable jump starter for his van trips. This way, he doesn't need to rely on AAA or a stranger with jumper cables to save the day.
I have a portable jump starter in my everyday car, which I bought on Amazon for $60 . I might have forgotten to pack it if McNeil didn't remind me.
Beyond that, McNeil said he always has an external battery, so he can still access electricity if his van's power were to fail.
One traveler suggested that I download movies and music to my laptop, phone, or iPad.
Often in remote destinations, there isn't cell service, and depending on your van and WiFi setup, you might be without service for days on end, Maddy Garrett , 25, told BI.
With that in mind, Garrett always has a few playlists, podcasts, and movies downloaded on her devices.
While Garrett said disconnecting from the outside world is a major perk of van life, there are still times when you'll want a solo movie night or music for those long, service-less drives.
Don't forget to pack whatever you want to use to document your trip.
Zach Nelson , a 23-year-old living in a Sprinter van, recommends packing items that will make it easy to document the adventure, whether you prefer to write in a journal or snap pictures on a film camera.
"You definitely need a way to document it, whether it's a Polaroid film camera or even just your phone," Nelson said.
A 25-year-old living in her van swears by her reusable pee cloth.
Garrett said her Kula cloth has been a game changer when it comes to using the restroom with van life. The $20 item is an antimicrobial, reusable pee cloth that's easy to carry on trips.
I'm a frequent hiker and backpacker, and I've had my eye on a Kula cloth for a long time. And since my van wasn't going to have a bathroom, Garrett said it was the ideal time to buy one.
"It just makes your life easier because you could stop and pee on the side of the road at any time," she said.
Plus, a pee cloth would mean that I wouldn't have to worry for two weeks about throwing away used toilet paper, she said, adding that "it's literally the best thing in the whole world."
Most people encouraged me to prepare for the weather.
Multiple people said that traveling in a van would mean needing to adapt to the weather.
"You have to understand whatever is going on outside will probably affect you on the inside," Brittany Newson , a 36-year-old living in a travel trailer, told BI.
Whether it's rain, snow, or heat, everyone agreed I should pack with that in mind.
Sierra Fernald , 23, said I shouldn't only consider the weather, but how I handle it. Fernald said she hates the cold and there were times in her Ram ProMaster van when it felt impossible to get out of her warm bed in the morning. So she invested in warmer clothes and a heater to make those chilly mornings easier.
"Definitely prepare for the weather, and maybe over-prepare a little bit," she said.
And while it might be tempting to overpack, multiple people encouraged me to keep things light.
Multiple people said I wouldn't want to live and travel in a crowded van, so they encouraged me to evaluate if and how I was going to use every item I packed.
"Come in with the bare minimums and see how you like to live in the space," Newson said. "Then you will see what it is that you would need in order to be happy."
Worst-case scenario, I could always stop at a store along the way to pick up anything I'd forgotten.
Their tips worked, and I embarked on my two-week trip without leaving anything major behind.
While I did overpack, the people I spoke with shared helpful suggestions that made a drastic difference throughout my trip.
For example, grabbing a first-aid kit and portable jump starter gave me confidence and reassurance throughout the two weeks. And not worrying about used toilet paper thanks to Garrett's Kula cloth suggestion was a major luxury.
While I'd add a few more items to my packing list for a regular road trip , these nomad-approved items will always be tucked into my suitcase for my future van adventures.

Lil Baby and Dreezy Shoot Down Dating Speculation: 'That's the Homie'
The two artists insisted they're not together despite taking pictures during Coachella at what seemed to be the same location.
Lil Baby and Dreezy aren't dating, despite what the Shade Room originally tried to claim.
On Monday, the gossip outlet speculated that the two are together due to being at what seemed to be the same location during the first weekend of Coachella 2024. Lil Baby was photographed at a mansion, which Dreezy later filmed two her Instagram Stories.
As badly as TSR tried to put two and two together, the artists swiftly commented on the post, denying that they were in the same place at the same time.
“🧢🧢🧢 Yall are reaching! That’s the homie!” Dreezy, 30, commented.
"Same house, different days y’all be reaching [too] hard," the 29-year-old "Merch Madness" rapper added.

Dreezy last dated R&B singer Jacquees , who's expecting his first child with Deiondra Sanders . Earlier this year, Dreezy posted alleged texts on Instagram from Jacquees, with messages that insinuated he wanted to reconcile with her, per TSR . The artist also appeared to troll Sanders with a track titled "Bitch Duh."
