The keyboard is one of the most important PC accessories you can purchase. It's what allows you to type up thousands of words and control games alongside a mouse. There is a wide range of options available with differing sizes, switches, and other features. The modding scene for customizing mechanical keyboards is really taking off, and companies like Akko are taking note.

The Chinese brand has been around since 2016 and has already established itself as a reliable choice for those seeking a premium mechanical keyboard. From custom-designed switches to perfecting PBT dye-sublimation and double shot keycaps, Akko wants to lead the charge as more people get into customizing their keyboards.

This is where the Akko World Tour Tokyo R2 (3068B) comes into play. It's the first Akko keyboard I've had the pleasure of using, so read on to learn my thoughts on this stunning keyboard and whether it deserves a spot in our best keyboards collection.

Bottom line: Akko did an excellent job with the World Tour Tokyo R2. Not only is it stunning out of the box, but you can customize it with new switches and more.

Akko World Tour Tokyo R2: Price and availability

You'd think a wireless keyboard with solid switches and a striking design would cost a fortune, but Akko managed to keep the cost down and launched the Akko World Tour Tokyo R2 (3068B) with a price tag of just $90. It's more affordable than other 65% keyboards like the Fnatic STREAK65 and manages to feel just as good.

Akko World Tour Tokyo R2: What's good

Immediately, the Akko World Tour Tokyo R2 grabs your attention with the outer packaging. The keyboard ships in a striking pink box with a Japanese-themed design that resembles what's secured inside. Both the packaging and keyboard make use of a pink-and-white look to really stand out in the crowd — even the included USB-C cable is braided in pink.

The Akko World Tour Tokyo R2 truly is a stunning keyboard to gaze at.

Once you've unboxed the keyboard, you have a choice of using the standard keys with some Japanese characters or you can swap out some of the keys for counterparts with special designs. Even the space bar is kitted out with a gateway, Mount Fuji, and Sakura blossoms. The Akko World Tour Tokyo R2 truly is a stunning keyboard to gaze at.

Interestingly, Akko didn't go with RGB lighting that shines through the keycaps. Instead, the company went with a more ambient look with the lights shining on the backplate. I actually prefer this look for the Japanese theme, and it creates a more subtle effect to let the keycap designs take the front stage.

The keyboard itself feels sturdy enough and is of decent build quality. You have to really apply some force before you notice some degree of flex. Pressing down hard in the middle of the keyboard doesn't see much movement, which is good for those with in-game heavy fingers.

To connect the keyboard, Akko allows for Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4GHz wireless with the included dongle, or through the USB-C cable. There are three LED indicators located to the right of the keyboard to show power status and caps lock activation. That's about it as the Akko World Tour Tokyo R2 is a simple, yet elegant keyboard.

Battery life isn't bad, and you could easily achieve more than a day's worth of use with RGB lighting enabled. Depending on how heavy you use the keyboard and what effects you've enabled, you should see up to a couple of days on Bluetooth or the 2.4GHz connection. I prefer wired keyboards and mice, so for the most part I didn't need to leave it on charge.

Using the Akko World Tour Tokyo R2 for typing up content right here on Windows Central was a joy. The Jelly Pink switches are very much like Cherry MX Blue, nice and tactile for typing away thousands of words. For gaming, the experience is about as you'd expect. No issues in heated action titles or relaxed simulators — Terraria Master Mode still manages to kick my rear end.

The software is a little lacking, but I've come to expect just as much from any company that isn't Corsair, Logitech, Razer, or SteelSeries. It's difficult to spend money and perfect your software offering when costs are kept low on the keyboard itself. You can get by with the software, just don't expect anything special like Razer Synapse.

Akko World Tour Tokyo R2: What's not good

There's nothing that's necessarily bad about the 65% Akko World Tour Tokyo R2. It ticks all the right boxes, but some may find the compact design a little too restrictive when looking at what keys are available. There are no function keys, though you can make use of the Fn key to achieve similar functionality.

For this keyboard, in particular, the design is going to be a little like marmite. If you're not a fan of bright colors, you won't like the Tokyo version of this mechanical keyboard. If you want to mod it a little further than simply swapping out keys and switches, you will need to look elsewhere too. But for everyone else, this is a solid foundation.

Akko World Tour Tokyo R2: Competition

There are countless 65% keyboards out there since the form factor is gaining traction with those who don't utilize the numpad enough and want to save a little desk space. We've looked at some fine mechanical keyboards, including the superb Razer BlackWidow V3 Mini , but most of them don't allow the owner to swap out switches and other internal parts.

The Akko World Tour Tokyo R2 allows you to remove and replace the switches, but that's about as much as you can customize with this keyboard. If you'd prefer to swap out other components and really dive into the deep end for keyboard modding, you'll want to look at something like the MelGeek Mojo68 .

Akko World Tour Tokyo R2: Should you buy it?

You should buy this if ...

• You like pink
• You want a 65% keyboard
• You fancy swapping out the switches at some point
• You want to try something a little different
• You prefer subtle RGB lighting

You shouldn't buy this if ...

• You want function keys
• You need the numpad
• You aren't a fan of bright colors

Do you like the color pink? Are you into more compact 65% mechanical keyboards? If the answer to these two questions is yes, you need to check out the Akko World Tour Tokyo R2. It's designed specifically for those wanting something a little more unique, designed to render Tokyo's local cultural characteristics, and the team did an excellent job.

I love the Akko World Tour Tokyo R2. The design is stunning, even after using it for a month. The keycaps are excellent, and the Pink Jelly switches from Akko are a joy to use. It ticks all the boxes for a solid mechanical keyboard that's also pretty decent at gaming. If you want to test the waters with customizing your keyboard's switches and keycaps, Akko's World Tour series is a great place to start.

Once you're ready to mod other parts of the keyboard, this is where the Akko World Tour Tokyo R2 starts to feel a little restrictive. You won't be able to do much more than replace the switches and keycaps, so a more mod-friendly mechanical keyboard will need to be on the cards. For everyone else, you'll have no trouble with the Akko World Tour Tokyo R2 (3068B).

Bottom line: There's plenty to love about the Akko World Tour Tokyo R2. Not only does it look incredible with the bright and vibrant design, but it's also mod-friendly, allowing you to customize it to your liking.

AKKO World Tour Tokyo mechanical keyboard review: as functional as it is adorable

Akko World Tour Tokyo

Yes, we're aware that this keyboard isn't for everyone. It's cheerful pink and white design skews feminine, and the Japan-inspired keycaps don't exactly lend themselves to an office setting.

Yet, for someone who wants to add an instant pop of cuteness to their setup, you can't argue— the Akko World Tour Tokyo keyboard definitely makes a statement.

You'll notice that the top row of number keys have been replaced with Japanese-inspired decorative keycaps. This is optional. Included alongside the keyboard are nine decorative number keys, as well as a decorative key that can be used to replace a shift or enter key. You can use all or none of them.

Our favorite part is the space bar, which features an adorable wrap-around Mount Fuji design, which looks fantastic.

Performance

If you like other mechanical keyboards, this one should be no different. It uses Cherry MX switches available in a variety of colors, including blue, brown, and red.

We tested the Cherry MX Red switches and found them to be very comparable to that of our K2's, though they feel ever so slightly more tactile.

The keyboard connects physically and charges with a USB-C cable. It can be used as a wired keyboard with either the USB-A to USB-C cable it comes with, or a user provided USB-C cable. It can also be connected wirelessly with Bluetooth 3.0, making it compatible with a wide range of devices, including the iPhone and iPad. Its diminutive size makes it easy to slip into your tech bag, and the company's battery claims of up to 150 hours of continuous typing before it needs to be charged are borne out by our testing.

What you'll miss

Because this is a compact layout, it only has 68 keys, which may feel extremely limiting. Most notably, it's missing the function key row at the top, which often is dedicated to some useful shortcuts. It's worth noting the manufacturer does make an 84-key version of this keyboard that features the function key row.

This keyboard also lacks a number pad, making it less useful for data entry tasks or certain types of gaming. Again, the manufacturer makes a 108-key version of this keyboard that also features the number pad, as well as the function keys, too.

We're willing to overlook the lack of function buttons and a dedicated number pad, but where we do feel it falls a little short is the lack of optional macOS keys. While this is hardly just a problem with this keyboard, it's always a little sad to see Apple users left out of the fun.

Making it easier for Mac

In the event that you do buy this to use with your macOS device, we should point out that you'll want to go into your keyboard settings and make a small modification. Because this is a Windows-designed keyboard, it swaps your Option and your Command keys. This can make adjusting to common shortcuts, like cut, copy, and paste, more difficult than it needs to be.

To fix it back to the correct layout, head into the Keyboard section of Settings and click the Modifier Keys button. From there, use these settings.

This works for all Windows-style keyboards, too, not just this one.

While not for everyone, we think that the Akko World Tour Tokyo keyboard is a fantastic portable solution to throw in your bag along with your iPad. I occasionally buy unique keyboards, but I can’t be bothered to do any customization. Either make it work for Mac/iOS out of the box, or forget it. 

Owners of this keyboard most likely do not have to worry about it being stolen...  :* 

Forget the function keys or the 10-pad, it appears this doesn't even label the number keys.  Are users just supposed to remember which emoji represents the number 5, for example?  Bizarre.

Child's play for a touch typist. And most likely for a child as well. Nothing  bizarre about that. This keyboard, like millions of other products, is for those who can appreciate and deal with it. Others need not apply.

I am satisfied with this keyboard. It's aesthetic and I like the Japan theme. The keyboard is comfortable when typing. It's sounds soft and feels tactile. I like the included items such as the keycap puller, the USB-C cable, and extra keycaps. I tried connecting the keyboard to Bluetooth but it didn't work for my laptop. I used the USB-C cable and connected it to my laptop. It's works fine, but I prefer to use Bluetooth since I don't have to deal with the messy cables on my desk. I'm glad that it came in good condition and it was packaged very securely. I recommend this if you like Japan or like Japanese aesthetic.

IVE to make historic debut at Tokyo dome for world tour encore shows

Group IVE ( Yujin , Gaeul , Rei , Wonyoung , Liz , Leeseo ) will make their first appearance at the Tokyo Dome in Japan.

According to their agency, Starship Entertainment, IVE will hold the encore performance of their first world tour 'SHOW WHAT I HAVE' (IVE THE 1ST WORLD TOUR 'SHOW WHAT I HAVE') at the Tokyo Dome on September 4th and 5th.

Previously, IVE met with 57,000 fans in Japan for the first time in February last year through their fan concert 'The Prom Queens'. Despite it being their first performance in Japan since their debut, the concert was held twice a day in Tokyo and Kobe, totaling eight shows. The concert was sold out quickly, and additional tickets were released, proving the high interest in IVE from the local audience.

In November of the same year, as part of their first world tour 'SHOW WHAT I HAVE', IVE was the first Korean artist to perform at the 'K-Arena Yokohama' in Yokohama, Japan. 

They continued to heat up with performances at 'Marine Messe Fukuoka' in Fukuoka on January 31st and February 1st, and at 'Osaka Castle Hall' in Osaka on February 7th and 8th, performing a total of six shows in three regions, each selling out and attracting 78,000 attendees.

To show appreciation for the support of local fans, IVE plans to expand the scale by holding a two-day encore performance of the world tour 'SHOW WHAT I HAVE' at the Tokyo Dome. Confirming the Tokyo Dome concert marks their first solo performance at an overseas dome venue.

Meanwhile, IVE has been conducting a world tour that started in Seoul in October last year, covering 27 cities across 19 countries including Japan, Asia, the Americas, Europe, South America, and Australia. 

They successfully completed their American performances in Newark, Los Angeles, Oakland, Fort Worth, Atlanta, and Rosemont with a concert at the Prudential Center in Newark on the 29th (local time).

Taylor Swift adds three more concerts in Singapore, which remains the only Southeast Asian stop of The Eras Tour

Swift's only other Asia stops on the Eras Tour are in Tokyo, Japan

Taylor Swift has added three more shows in Singapore for the Asia leg of the Eras tour, bringing the total number of concerts she’ll play in the Southeast Asian city-state to six.

On Sunday (June 25), concert promoter AEG Presents Asia took to social media to announce the new 2024 tour dates, added due to “overwhelming response”. On top of the existing March 2-4 shows, she’ll play three new concerts from March 7-9. All Sabrina Carpenter . Singapore will be the tour’s only stop in Southeast Asia, per AEG Presents.

Fan registration for the general on-sale has begun here and ends 12pm local time on June 28. UOB Cardmembers pre-sales, which have a limited number of tickets available, kick off from 12pm local time on July 5 until 9am on July 7. General tickets will go on sale from 12pm local time on July 7 via Ticketmaster . Only access code holders will be able to purchase tickets in this general on-sale.

“We encourage all fans to register now until 28 June, 12pm (SGT), including UOB Cardmembers, for a chance to purchase tickets during the General On-sale,” AEG Presents said.

Taylor Swift announced the ‘Taylor’s Version’ re-recording of her third album, ‘Speak Now’, revealing it onstage during the Nashville stop of her ‘Eras’ tour in May. It is set to arrive on July 7, with Fall Out Boy and Paramore’s Hayley Williams confirmed as featured guests.

She last released her latest album ‘Midnights’ in October 2022. The record scored a four-star review from NME ’s Hannah Mylrea, who wrote: “After a foray into a different sonic world, on Swift’s return to pure pop she still shimmers.”

Waterbomb Festival 2024 has revealed its lineup of artists and dates for the Seoul location. The famous Korean music festival will also occur this year in Los Angeles.

The official website of Waterbomb Festival has announced all its locations for its 2024 edition, including Japan, Singapore, Xiamen, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Taipei, Ho Chi Minh, Los Angeles, and Dubai. The dates and ticketing information for the world tour are yet to be revealed.

All About Waterbomb Festival 2024

The Waterbomb Festival 2024 will be in Seoul from July 5 to 7. In addition to Seoul, the K-pop festival will occur in South Korea’s Jeju, Daegu, Busan, Incheon, Daejeon, Suwon, and Gwangju. Before Seoul’s grand celebration, the Waterbomb Festival will kick off in Xiamen on May 18 and 19.
