Prime Day — Amazon’s annual two-day sale event that ends at midnight tonight — coincides with peak summer-travel season, and it’s a great time to invest in the trip essentials that’ll make vacations (as well as work trips and weekends away) that much easier and more enjoyable. After all, money saved today increases the restaurant budget at your chosen destination.

As a Strategist writer specializing in outdoor and travel gear, I’m recommending products here that I and other staffers have personally vetted or heard about from the frequent travelers we talk to all the time. Happily, many of those tried-and-true travel products are significantly discounted right now, including soft- and hard-sided suitcases from our best-in-class rolling-luggage list , the two most powerful pairs of noise-canceling headphones on the market , and a reliable set of packing cubes for less than $15. I was especially on the lookout for items from our new “ Travel 100 ” list as well as our perennially popular gift guide for frequent travelers . If you are looking for travel gifts, I’ve taken note of a few smaller gadgets, like reusable earplugs and Bluetooth luggage-tracking tiles, that would be well appreciated by any globe-trotter in your life.

I’ve just completed my final update of this post, but the Prime Day deals will continue until 2:59 am EST, so you can keep shopping until then. Just know that stock and prices may change, so it’s better to buy now than later. Our entire team has spent the past week obsessively preparing for Prime Day, so you should be sure to check out the hard work from my colleagues, too. If you’re a more frequent traveler and looking to invest in a check-in suitcase that’ll last, this expander from Samsonite has a ten-year warranty and an anti-scratch finish that will be the envy of everyone at the carousel. I use a Samsonite myself, and it has held up to years of use. In fact, I purchased it secondhand and have yet to see any particular signs of wear and tear.

If you know that you’ll be checking a bag more often than not, it’s more economical to buy a set like this one, which also features that same ten-year warranty and scratch-resistant polycarbonate shell.

I love the look of hard suitcases, but I have to admit the simple truth that soft ones can fit a lot more stuff. They’re also much more durable and easy to repair. This set is an investment in vacations for years and years to come.

With Travelpro luggage, it’s literally all in the name. These are the suitcases that the real airline point-accumulators swear by — the people who travel to travel, not just to flaunt a Rimowa on Instagram. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that if you have the budget.) This soft suitcase makes our best rolling-luggage list because it’s made from easy-to-repair nylon and has just two encased wheels that won’t snap off. It expands up to two inches and has multiple compartments for stuffing last-minute purchases into.

Or here’s a classy-looking Travelpro hard suitcase if you just can’t stand the look of a soft one. It expands easily and has double spinner wheels for cruising toward the gate.

On the more sophisticated side of things, here’s a nicely priced Delsey set with a scratch-resistant silver exterior. The brand’s Aero line is designed to be as light as possible while still remaining durable, making it ideal for international trips that feature airline luggage-weight restrictions.

And I love this well-priced, utilitarian Rockland luggage set that would suit a longer trip like an ocean cruise. These bags are beasts — and very amenable to overpacking.

A leather duffel will last forever and make any old weekend trip upstate feel a bit luxurious. Our former writer Karen Iorio Adelson recommends this one from Kenneth Cole for anyone who isn’t quite ready to drop nearly $1,000 on their Airbnb getaway bag. She notes that because the leather is soft and slouchy, the already nice-looking (and rather roomy) duffel will probably look even better with age.

Travelon makes some of our favorite totes and cross-body bags for travel , and this one fits a lot of smart storage pockets into a surprisingly minimal and stylish design — that crescent shape actually hits right on the current Y2K trend . The bag’s fabric is slashproof, so you can keep your smartphone and passport safe during more adventurous trips.

With packing cubes , “all of a sudden, everything has its place before you’ve even packed it,” says editor and self-proclaimed overpacker  Foster Kamer . “By the second or third time you use them, you’ll already know exactly what fits where and how much of it you can take with you — down to the very last sock.” At 50 percent off right now, this set is an easy buy for any sort of travel you’ve got coming up. I’m always a fan of packing cubes with a mesh exterior, for the simple reason that it makes it easy to see what’s in there without unzipping.

The above Amazon Basics packing cubes will do exactly what’s required, which is handily separate the stuff in your suitcase. But this slightly pricier set from Bagsmart offers better compression, which means you can squish down a few more T-shirts for additional outfit options on the trip.

Thule’s industrial-looking laptop case comes recommended to us by tasteful tech folk. Because it’s hardsided, those experts told us it’s perfect for situations in which you’ll need extra protection — like putting your laptop in a  checked suitcase  that’ll likely get jostled in transport. Don’t worry about scratches on your MacBook, either; the case has a soft lining in order to prevent laptops from scraping against its hard plastic exterior.

Running to the gate with a Starbucks cup in hand is a recipe for disaster, which is where this clever caddy comes in. It’s adjustable enough that it should slip over the handles of any suitcase.

Strategist contributing writer Alyse Whitney calls this expandable pill organizer her “Mary Poppins medicine cabinet.” Another one of our Travel 100 picks , it’s just a little larger than a deck of cards but houses all of your medications in pleasingly organized apartments labeled with neon stickers. The case opens “with the flourish of French doors in a Nancy Meyer movie,” then snaps shut with a magnetic closure.

The Trtl has been our favorite travel pillow since 2017. Lacking that traditional (but often rather useless) U-shape, this scarflike contraption has a plastic brace inside that supports the head, explains  Pack Hacker  editor Lauren Maternowski. It’s a godsend for side-sleepers stuck in the middle row.

Bose is synonymous with noise-canceling headphones, and Prime Day is always a smart time to invest in a discounted pair. Frequent flier  Brian Kelly , a.k.a. the Points Guy, told us these are his “must-have for every flight, especially the red-eyes and  long hauls ,” because they “tune out everything and anything.”  Travel blogger Pauline Egge  is another fan, saying, “The sound is, of course, phenomenal — so perfect to watch a movie, listen to some music, or get into a meditation mode.” They’re even  Chris Black–approved : “I wanted to hate them because they are standard issue for any true frequent flier, but they are the best and therefore … I must use them.”

Sony’s headphones have emerged as a Bose competitor in recent years with similarly astonishing noise-reduction and lightness of weight. Our contributing writer David Pogue says he’s impressed by both brands but that Sony’s noise-canceling headphones sound just a tad better because “the bass is stronger and deeper; the midrange is balanced; the highs are crisp.”

During peak travel season, a.k.a. right now, luggage gets lost and airlines can be unhelpful at best. Even just for peace of mind, stashing a Tile tracker in your suitcase can help. One of these would also make a great little gift or stocking stuffer for anyone you know who is embarking on a trip.

While, sadly, I can’t provide you with an AirTag Prime Day deal, this clever holder is a nice buy that will let you attach one to your backpack or suitcase. When you’re not traveling, attach it to your house keys and never lose them again.

Travel TikTok loves this portable charger, which also doubles as a phone stand that makes use of Apple’s surprisingly useful MagSafe technology. (Let my colleague Jordan McMahon teach you more about how it works over here .) Perfect for budget or short-haul flights that don’t include back-of-seat screens — just prop your phone up on one of these to watch TV while your phone charges.

This, the lightest and most compact Kindle model, is perfectly packable, which is why it recently earned a spot on our Travel 100 . As McMahon — who has tried out every Kindle since 2013 — notes, the six-inch display makes it especially easy to stuff into the front pocket of a backpack.

This portable fan offers an easy and currently very affordable way to stand in line for museums in the heat. According to my fellow Strategist writer Dominique Pariso , when folded down, it’s compact enough to fit into a fanny pack.

This travel adapter has four USB ports, meaning that instead of carrying around four different USB chargers, you can charge your phone, headphones, and external batteries all with one device (just note that you would still need four USB cords). I own one and have found it useful both on the road and at home, where it’s handy to use as a bedside charger for multiple devices at once.

Jeff Jenkins, founder of  Chubby Diaries , likes to bring this water-purifying straw wherever he goes. “I can drink almost any water in any city, country, or random pond in the middle of nowhere because of this thing,” he says. It’s also slim enough to stash in any bag.

For an all-in-one water filtration solution, this self-filtering water bottle is also on sale. Strategist writer Jeremy Rellosa has hiked everywhere from Patagonia to Nepal , and this self-filtering has packed one every time. (It “came in clutch” when he and his hiking companion finished the water they’d packed on a three-day backpacking trip.)

Just a few bucks more than your standard, garbage drugstore umbrella , this Amazon Basics number will actually last, according to New York deputy editor Alexis Swerdloff. It’s also cheap enough that you won’t be too upset about leaving it behind at a restaurant or hotel. The wind vent (which you hardly notice) makes it much less likely that the umbrella will flip; opening and closing it is a breeze, and the soft handle rivals the Daveks and Repels of the world.

Speaking of Repel, the brand’s travel umbrella is also on sale for ten bucks more than the Amazon Basics one above. The splurge might be worth it if you’re one to vacation during inclement weather: We’ve put several Repels through their paces and always found them to be wonderfully wind-resistant yet compact.

Reviewers of this mesh folding travel bassinet like how they can see their baby through the sides. It folds down flat for easy storage on top of the packing cubes in your suitcase.

This Amazon dupe for our favorite Sherpa pet carrier is designed to fit perfectly underneath an airplane seat. The mesh casing offers lots of ventilation, plus the opportunity to say hi to your furry friend without unzipping the doors.

How Many People Intend to Shop for Prime Day 2023?

We asked a survey question to see how many American adults had intentions of shopping for Amazon’s Prime Day this year. Here are the results.

Let’s take a look at the survey results:

• Yes, only for travel deals. — 17.83%
• Yes, for all types of deals. — 61.41%
• No. — 20.76%

Interesting Demographic Comparison — The oldest American adults over age 60 are the least likely to intend to shop for Prime Day this year. Only 69.36% of people in this age group expressed intentions of shopping. On the other hand, Americans aged 30-44 are most likely to have intentions to shop for Prime Day in 2023. 85.16% of Americans in this age group said they intend to do so.

Key Takeaway — More than 79% of American adults stated they have intentions to shop for Amazon Prime Day 2023. The 79.24% that stated these intentions represents more than 204 million people according to the latest census . It includes the 17.83% or 46 million people that intend to shop for only travel deals. It also includes the 61.41% or 158 million people that intend to shop for all types of deals. This is a significant amount of people who have intentions to shop, but we will have to wait until the event concludes to see how many actually follow through!

What is Prime Day?

Prime Day is Amazon’s annual two-day sale featuring discounts on thousands of items across just about every category. Travelers are in luck because Prime Day features a variety of essentials, including luggage, headphones, Kindles, clothing, and more. Additionally, numerous other stores have their own Prime Day sales, which include the same items as well as discounts on vacation packages, flights, hotels, cruises, and rental cars.

Only Prime members can participate, but it is easy to get a free 30-day trial membership or a discounted one if you are a student or educator. Amazon charges $14.99 (plus tax) for monthly memberships and $139 for annual memberships, so it is important to see if you are eligible for a free trial or discounted membership. Eligible students can enjoy a 6-month free trial and then pay only $7.49 per month, which is a 50% discount.

Since its inception in 2015, Prime Day has gotten longer. Initially, it was a quick 24-hour sales event. In 2017, Amazon increased it by six hours to 30 hours. It then became a 36-hour event before finally settling in at 48 hours the past three years. For 2023, the two-day sale will again be a full 48 hours. Prime Day is Amazon’s summer version of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, and it often has comparable deals.

When is Prime Day 2023?

As previously mentioned, Prime Day 2023 will take place on July 11 and July 12. It is similar to the past few years when Amazon increased the sale duration to 48 hours. The sale officially begins at 3 a.m. EST (midnight PST) on July 11. For comparison purposes, here are previous Prime Day dates.

• Prime Day 2015: July 15 (first Prime Day ever; 24 hours long)
• Prime Day 2016: July 12 (still 24 hours long)
• Prime Day 2017: July 11 to 12 (30 hours long)

• Prime Day 2020: October 13 to 14 (pushed back due to Covid-19; 48 hours long)

How Does Prime Day Work?

Prime Day is essentially a reward for being a Prime member. Members logged into their active Amazon Prime accounts will see thousands of items discounted at special rates for the duration of the sale. Non-members can still buy the same items, but they will have to pay more. For that reason, it is essential you have an active Prime membership if you plan on making any purchases on Prime Day.

How Do I Get a Discounted Prime Membership or a Free 30-Day Trial?

New members can sign up for a free 30-day trial here . The trial gives you all the benefits of a Prime membership, including the ability to shop for special Prime Day discounts. With Prime Day’s 2023 date now known (July 11 at 3 a.m. EDT through July 12), signing up for a free trial today means your membership will be valid through the end of Prime Day.

Additionally, eligible students can sign-up for a 6-month free trial membership here and then pay only $7.49 per month after.

Amazon features a lot of its own products on Prime Day. Examples include Kindles, Fire tablets, Fire TVs, the Amazon Astro, the Amazon Glow, and more. If you are in the market for an Amazon device, Prime Day is the time to get it.

Amazon says Prime Day will be available to customers in more than 20 countries. For reference, Prime Day was held in the following countries last year.

In most cases, you do not need a special membership to shop competing Prime Day sales. That is great news if you do not want to pay for a Prime membership or are not eligible for a free trial.

Is Prime Day Better Than Black Friday?

It depends. Prime Day offers better deals than Black Friday on a variety of items. Expect most Amazon devices to be cheaper on Prime Day than they were on Black Friday last year. We have seen many televisions set record-low prices on Prime Day, and we expect that trend to continue in 2023.

Since it varies by item, we will be comparing Prime Day 2023 prices to prices for the same or comparable items on Black Friday 2022. This will be done via live updates in this blog post as the deals are released. Historically, more than 70% of deals have beat comparable Black Friday prices from previous years.

Amazon is bringing its huge sale event back for its ninth consecutive year. During that time you can count on finding thousands of items at steep discounts.

The event was so successful that Amazon chose to make Prime Day an annual occurrence. Since then, the shopping holiday has expanded to include new categories and festivities, including free concerts.

What is National Nurses Week?

National Nurses Week grew out of a congressional resolution and proclamation signed by President Reagan in 1982 deeming May 6 as a National Recognition Day for Nurses.

The American Nurses Association board of directors expanded this to a National Nurses Week in 1990. The permanent dates for the week were designated in 1993 to be officially observed starting in 1994.

The week includes National School Nurses Day on May 8 and May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale, which has been celebrated as International Nurse Day since 1974.

Amazon’s massive Prime Day is coming back and it promises to offer big deals for Prime members.

Now in its 10th year, Prime Day 2024 is expected to be the single biggest sale’s event from Amazon with mega markdowns in all product categories. This traditionally includes top discounts on electronics, home goods, kitchen products, fashion, pet supplies, toys and much more.

Here’s everything we know so far about the highly-anticipated Prime Day 2024.

When is Prime Day 2024?

Amazon has announced that Prime Day 2024 will be held once again in July. However, the retail giant is being tight-lipped about the exact dates of the sale only saying that more details will be released soon.

In past years, Amazon has held Prime Day in mid-July, surrounding its birthday, which falls on July 15. This year we expect a similar pattern with our best estimates placing Prime Day 2024 on July 15-16.

When does Prime Day 2024 start?

While we don’t know exactly what time Prime Day 2024 will start, we do expect Amazon to follow the same schedule as in past years. This would mean that the sale would kickoff at 3 a.m. ET (midnight PT) and run for 48 hours.

What time does Prime Day 2024 end?

If our expected start time aligns with Amazon’s plans, we think Prime Day 2024 will once again end at 3 a.m. ET (midnight PT) on July 16.

This is key as you don’t want to miss any of the deals during this huge Amazon Prime Day as you most-likely won’t see these same low prices for awhile.

What is Prime Day?

Prime Day is the biggest sale’s event Amazon holds for Prime members. The first Prime Day was held in July 2015 to celebrate its Prime members with some of the best deals of the year on their favorite products.

During Prime Day, Amazon typically offers a series of Lightning Deals, where you can score major savings on select products but only for a limited time. These deals are usually dropped all throughout the 48-hour sale, offering even deeper discounts.

Amazon also traditionally features some added benefits during Prime Day, including a $10 Amazon credit for completing certain tasks. In the past, these have included listening to a song on Prime Music, watching a show on Prime Video or borrowing a book from Prime Reading.

Leading up to Prime Day, Amazon typically has early deals , so you don’t have to wait to start scoring big savings before the main event kicks off. These markdowns are usually held a few weeks before Prime Day with big discounts on top products.

Do I need a Prime membership to shop Prime Day 2024?

Most likely you will need a Prime membership to shop Amazon’s Prime Day 2024. In past years, Amazon has required a Prime membership to score the deals from the sale and we suspect this year it will be the same.

An Amazon Prime membership costs $14.99 a month and $139 a year. It typically comes with a 30-day trial and includes perks like free shipping, unlimited grocery delivery, access to Amazon Prime, Amazon Music, two-years of Grubhub+ and much more.

Amazon Prime Day has grown into one of the biggest sales events of the year, with discounts rivaling those of Black Friday and Cyber Monday. With so many retailers selling on Amazon, Prime members can save on just about anything, from viral beauty products to new unlocked smartphones.

The best Prime Day deals we saw last year included all-time lows on brands like Apple, Vitamix, iRobot, Dyson, Crocs, and, of course, Amazon-owned products like the Fire TV , Kindle e-reader , and Echo smart speakers . We expect to see more of the same this year as well.

It'll be the first major deal holiday of the year, so it's an awesome chance to score summer discounts on big-ticket items and household staples. The retailer's 10th Prime Day event has officially been announced to arrive in July, but the actual days are still unknown. When is Amazon Prime Day 2024?

Amazon Prime Day is officially coming this July, though the exact days have not yet been announced. In past years, it kicked off on the second Tuesday of the month. If Amazon follows the same trend, it will take place on July 9 and 10. We'll keep this story updated as more details are announced.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is the retailer's annual mega sale and one of the major benefits of Prime membership. It's a two-day sales event, usually during the summer, that features products from every category, from fashion staples to hot new tech. 

Though it used to be a deal holiday of a much smaller scale, Prime Day has grown exponentially since the first one in 2015. Now, you can find almost everything on sale for all-time low prices, matching discounts we see during Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

Everything is fair game to buy during Amazon Prime Day. Whether you've been holding out on a pricey new TV or just need to stock up on toiletries, Prime Day is a good time to make your move.

Prime Day tech deals featured brands like Logitech, Bose, Jabra, Sony, Roku, Samsung, TCL, and more. 

If you're looking for style and beauty deals during Prime Day, last year, brands like Tommy Hilfiger, Tatcha, Laneige, Levi's, Carhartt, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Adidas, and Marc Jacobs all featured products at rare low prices. That means skincare, makeup, shoes, men's clothing, women's fashion, and accessories will all be available for less. 

Home and kitchen products saw no shortage of Prime Day deals either, with big names like Dyson, Shark, iRobot, Philips, KitchenAid, Nespresso, Casper, Leesa, and OXO down to all-time lows for the event. So, whether you need an air fryer , robot vacuum , mattress , or just some sturdy mixing bowls, Prime Day is a good time to buy. 

You don't need to be focused on fancy new gadgets or treatments to shop smart during Amazon Prime Day either. We also catch tons of affordable household essentials available for even less every year, like toilet paper, dish soap, doggy bags, and makeup wipes. These deals are sweet, since they save you money on stuff you needed to buy anyway. 

How long do Prime Day deals last?

How long a Prime Day deal lasts differs between items, but in general, the best discounts will start during the event and end before the 48-hour holiday is over. Some will last the whole two days while others will only last one, so it's always wise to act on a good sale when you see it. Lightning deals especially go fast, the most popular of which dwindle away in less than an hour.

I always recommend buying a product you've had your eye on as soon as it's highlighted as a Prime Day deal. Regardless of how long it's set to last, oftentimes the best sales run out of stock, resulting in shipping dates being pushed out, or the deal no longer being offered at all. Do you need to be a Prime member to shop Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is locked to Prime members only. It's one of the major benefits of subscribing to the service, in addition to other perks like free two-day shipping and Prime Video streaming. 

If you have yet to become a member, you can sign up for a free 30-day trial to test it out. Once the official Prime Day dates have been announced, you can even time your free period to overlap with the sale, but it's not a guarantee since sometimes retailers will lock out free members from shopping the best deals.

Do other stores participate in Prime Day?

Although Prime Day is an Amazon-specific event, it's grown so large that other major retailers have started kicking off competing sales to overlap with it. No one has announced a competing Prime Day sale just yet, but if past years are any indication, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy will likely be holding their own events.

This year's Amazon Prime Day event will take place in July. However, Amazon has not announced the official date just yet. 

Most Prime Day events last 48 hours, so we expect a similar duration in 2024. Last year's Prime Day sale took place from July 11 through July 12.
