Explore Keana farms

Explore a working farm.

Keana Farms produces over a million pounds of produce each year, and CLIMB Works Keana Farms lets you explore and learn about this farm while soaring over it. You’ll see papaya, apple bananas, taro, eggplant, cherry tomatoes, and many more along the way. With the exception of the basil, all of the fruit is sold only to Hawaii vendors, so you can eat Keana Farms fruit the rest of your stay in Hawaii.

TASTE FRESH FRUIT

There’s seeing fruit from afar, and then there’s tasting fresh fruit. Because the latter is infinitely better, we’ve made tasting some Keana Farms cherry tomatoes part of the tour.

Gorgeous North Shore Views

Panoramic views.

Starting 410 feet about sea level, you’ll have constant panoramic views overlooking North Shore’s famous beaches, lush mountains, and picturesque farms. The only concern you’ll have is which backdrop is better for your pictures.

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE

While most visitors to Oahu will drive up and see the North Shore’s famous beaches, CLIMB Works Keana Farms offers visitors a bird’s eye view from the mountains – providing a different perspective of what makes the North Shore so famous.

Seriously Good Reviews

Frequently asked questions, i’ve never been ziplining before. do i need experience.

The beauty of our tours is that you do not require any previous experience or skills. Our friendly and professional guides will help you through your entire experience, from providing you with well-fitting safety equipment to leading you through the course.

My children are under 60 lbs. Is there any way they can go ziplining?

Yes, it is possible for children 40-60 lbs. to tandem zip with a guide. Due to safety precautions, they cannot tandem with anyone other than our guides. Generally, if a child is under 50 lbs, they will have to go tandem with a guide. Kids over 50lbs are encouraged to go alone. Unfortunately, those under 40 lbs are too small to go on the tour.

My child under 12 wants to do the Adventure Tower or Zipline but I do not want to accompany him/her. Is this okay?

Unfortunately not. An adult participant needs to accompany those under 12 years old on the activities.

Do I tip my guide?

As with any tour or service, it is customary to tip your guides if you are pleased with your service. Typically, 10-15% gratuity is adequate. Guides accept cash, Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App for gratuity. Coral Crater does not accept tips on behalf of guides.

What is your cancellation policy?

Bookings canceled with 24 or more hours notice are refunded in full. Any reservation canceled with less than 24 hours notice will not be refunded.

Do you have lockers to store stuff?

Yes, we do! All lockers are digital, so no need to carry keys during your activity. The largest locker can fit a large suitcase. Locker payments are taken by credit card only at the kiosk, but if you only have cash, you can rent a locker at the gift shop and the staff will open it for you. Rates start at $5 for two hours use of the small lockers.

How safe are the activities at Coral Crater?

Our courses surpass the Association for Challenge Course (ACCT) standards and pre-use inspections on both the safety equipment and course occur daily. Extensive training for our guides is provided by Synergo, a Professional Vendor Member (PVM) of the ACCT. Synergo also completes our periodic course inspections. As with all activities, there are inherent risks associated with Zipline , the Adventure Tower , and off-road ATVs .

Coral Crater Adventure Park – Full Zipline Tour

Coral Crater Adventure Park offers visitors the unique opportunity to soar through the treetops above a 10-acre crater. The quarry was originally created by the U.S. Navy in the 1940s to be used as a naval airport. The North Shore Zipline by CLIMB Works Keana Farms is a three-hour guided zipline tour that includes Oahu's longest ziplines ranging from 500 feet to nearly half a mile long.

Participants view a working agricultural farm on eight world-class dual lines, two rappels, three sky bridges, a fun ATV adventure to the ridgetop, and other unique surprises. Along the way you'll learn about Hawaii's rich history and culture while taking in constant panoramic ocean and mountain views of Oahu's famous North Shore.

High above the trees on Oahu's tallest zipline

After the ATV ride to an exclusive ridge in the Ko’olau mountains, you can look down to a spectacular view of a working produce farm. Ziplining over the farms has the added benefit of seeing the farm in action without being directly in it. Some of the zips have a stunning ocean view that you can only get on this north shore zipline.

This is a high-end zipline, and our guests have raved about it. CLIMB Works has taken the beauty of Oahu's North Shore, combined it with a great zipline design and well-trained guides. The result is something that we are happy to offer.

Make the Most of Your Day on the North Shore

A great way to spend a day on Oahu is enjoying this popular north shore zipline, then checking out the famous surfing locations like Sunset, Pipeline, and Waimea Beach. The surf is big in the winter, but in the summer you can head to Waimea Bay for more adventures.

Zipline Tour lasts approximately 3 hours.

Tour Information

zipline-in-oahu

What Is A Zipline?

A zipline is a cable that is suspended high up in the air, typically between two trees and made of stainless steel, and is used as a means of transportation or recreation.

It allows people to fly down the slope to travel from the top of the inclined cable to the bottom. Ziplines can vary in length and height; some even have multiple loops you can zigzag through.

How Long is A zipline Tour?

Oahu Zipline Tours are typically 2 hours long. Depending on the Zipline Tour you choose, you can expect a different number of zipline routes and lengths. For example, Kualoa Ranch is home to 7 different ziplines, and all of them are included in the tour. The shortest one is 200 feet long, and the longest one is 1300 feet, or a quarter of a mile. Needless to say, it will be one memorable experience for everyone!

How Much Does it Cost to Zipline on Oahu?

Zipline prices can vary depending on the company and the tour you choose - from $105 to $400 per person. That being said, here at Real Hawai'i tours our Oahu ziplines are around $175 + tax per person.

Can I Bring My Camera on a Zipline Tour?

Yes, you can, and we recommend bringing your own camera on tour, especially your GoPro and a selfie stick. However, we recommend leaving valuables such as jewelry at home.

Oahu Ziplining

What To Expect

Jurassic-Valley-Oahu

Every Oahu Zipline Tour is different in their own aspect. However, just so you get an idea... let's cover a day on one of the most popular zipline tours on oahu  -  The Jurassic Valley zipline at Kualoa Ranch!

You'll start your day by Jumping on a shuttle bus from Waikiki to Kualoa Ranch and enjoy the stunning landscapes around Oahu - getting there will take approximately 1 hour. Once at the ranch, the physical requirements will be checked, and you'll get ready to go ziplining.

You'll start with the shortest zipline, which is 200 feet, and enjoy a few different lines until reaching the last one, which is 1300 feet long.

While descending, you'll go through famous filming locations such as those in Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, and King Kong, and we recommend taking your GoPro to watch them again at home.

Once you're done, jump back on the bus to Waikiki and remember all the incredible moments and unique locations you've just witnessed.

What To wear

zipline-oahu

First and foremost, you'll want to dress for comfort. Wear clothing that you don't mind getting dirty or wet, as you may be climbing through mud and over puddles.

Secondly, make sure to wear closed-toe shoes as they're required, and don't forget to bring sunscreen as the sun in Hawaii is pretty strong. With that in mind, tank tops and short sleeve shirts are fine. You should also avoid wearing loose clothing or jewelry that could get caught on the zipline. For women, it's important to use a hair elastic as you will feel more comfortable.

We also recommend bringing your own camera on tour, especially your GoPro and a selfie stick. However, we recommend leaving valuables such as jewelry at home.

Standard Requirements

hawaii-zipline-oahu

To start with, all participants must be 18 years old if an adult or a guardian doesn't accompany them. Apart from that, there are physical requirements that you should take into consideration, and that will be checked upon arrival, and these are:

Height : 4'8" to 6'9"

Waist Size:  22” to 50”

Upper Thigh Size : 4'8" to 6'9"

Weight : 4'8" to 6'9"

(May Differ Depending on Tour)

Lastly, this tour isn't recommended for pregnant women or people with spinal issues, heart conditions, or joint pain and we suggest visiting a doctor before coming if that's the case.

CLIMB Works Ziplining FAQs

How does this ziplining experience compare in terms of thrill and view.

This is one of the ziplines in Hawaii with the most beautiful scenery. It’s really unsurpassed compared to other Hawaii ziplines. It’s labeled as an easy to moderate course, but you can make it a bit more adventurous if you choose not to hold onto the handlebars.

Is it safe, especially for first-timers or kids?

YES. It’s actually perfect for first-timers because the course isn’t too challenging. I brought my 9-year-old and he felt completely safe the entire time.

Is the price justified for the experience offered?

Yes, when you consider the amazing views and all the extras besides the ziplining (the ATV ride, rappels, floating bridge, boardwalks, etc) it’s a great deal for a full adventure.

What are the age and weight restrictions?

Children must meet the age and weight requirements to ride solo, which means they need to be at least 7 years old and weigh at least 70 lbs. However, if a child is 7 years old but doesn’t meet the weight requirement, they have the option to ride with a guide or a lighter sibling.

For adults, there are also specific weight restrictions based on height. Individuals who are 5′ 10″ or taller must weigh under 270 lbs, while those under 5′ 10″ must not exceed 250 lbs. It’s important to note that this tour cannot accommodate individuals taller than 6′ 8″.

They said her husband drowned snorkeling, but she saw him walk to shore. What happened?

ziplining tours hawaii oahu

A Michigan woman and her family are suing a Maui resort , the Hawaiian Tourism Authority, and the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau after her husband died while snorkeling . She doesn’t believe it was a drowning.

Patricia and Ray Johnson, along with four friends, arrived at the Fairmont Kea Lani on Maui on the evening of Feb. 23, 2022, with plans to visit multiple islands over several weeks. This was the couple’s sixth time in Hawaii, and they had snorkeled the Hawaiian waters many times in the past, Patricia told USA TODAY.

On the morning of Feb. 25, some of the travelers, including Ray, went snorkeling around Wailea Beach, which fronts the resort, while Patricia opted to walk a trail that overlooks the beach. “I looked out, and I saw my husband and my friends or people out there,” she told USA TODAY. “I’m waving at him, and it hits me.” Patricia saw what looked like other snorkelers helping Ray.

She hurried down to the beach, but “things deteriorated quickly.” At first, Ray had his head above water and was returning to the beach, but then the 64-year-old fell onto his back with his head “snapped back at one point” and had to be pulled in. “I knew he was gone,” she said. 9-1-1 was called, but medical professionals failed to resuscitate Ray.

The autopsy report called Ray’s death an accidental drowning, which Patricia doesn’t believe.

“I was watching him come in, how could he be drowning?” According to her friends who were snorkeling with him, Ray was talking and also diving down under the water. At one point, he came up and said, “You gotta help me, I’m having trouble breathing,” and that’s when he decided to head back to shore. “I don’t think when people are drowning in a conditional manner, you’re going to be conversing,” she said.

What to do in Hawaii? Locals weigh in on if these popular spots are worth the hype

By a landslide, the leading cause of death for Hawaii tourists is drowning. And of ocean drownings for residents and visitors, the majority occur when snorkeling. While the ocean is powerful and unpredictable, some advocates, including the Johnsons, are trying to bring attention to a lesser-known medical condition that specifically poses risks to snorkelers and hasn’t gotten much attention over the years: Rapid Onset Pulmonary Edema (ROPE).

The Johnson family believes ROPE is the real cause of Ray’s death, and the lawsuit alleges that Hawaii travel entities have failed to educate the public on ROPE, resulting in “an important public health concern,” according to the complaint filed in the Circuit Court of the First Circuit in the State of Hawaii in February 2024. The case should begin the fact-discovery process this week.

The Hawaiian Tourism Authority, Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau and Fairmont Kea Lani declined to comment on the lawsuit.

“I would like to see warnings out there,” Patricia told USA TODAY. “I truly believe my husband would still be here if we’d been warned.”

How is snorkeling dangerous?

Breathing through a snorkel tube is similar to pinching your nose and breathing in through your mouth. The resistance is immediate. ROPE occurs when the negative pressure on the lungs ends up sucking bodily fluids out of the capillaries and into the airways, according to Dr. Raj Dasgupta , a California-based pulmonologist.

“That snorkel resistance to airflow,” he said. “They want to breathe in but they have to breathe through that straw.”

Once fluid is in the lungs, it becomes difficult to breathe and people can experience hypoxia, or a lack of sufficient oxygen. “You slowly become weak then into a loss of consciousness,” Dasgupta said. Underlying health conditions such as heart and lung disease also increase someone’s predisposed risk for ROPE, he said.

If a person begins to feel shortness of breath, they may panic, causing more exertion, which can be life-threatening if they’re already suffering from a lack of oxygen, Dasgupta said.

Drowning by ROPE is “fundamentally different” than typical drowning when people are aspirating water or submerged and often showing signs of distress, the complaint said.

A lack of public awareness

In October 2017, after California woman – and avid swimmer and snorkeler – Nancy Peacock died while snorkeling in calm waters off the coast of Hawaii Island in a full-face mask and no signs of struggle, the Hawaii State Department created the Snorkeling Safety Sub-Committee to “address public concern about snorkel-related drownings.”

In a Snorkeling Safety Study led by the sub-committee, 50 different snorkels were tested, and the experts examined nonfatal and fatal drownings. The interim report released in July 2020 concluded that “ROPE-induced hypoxia is a factor in fatal and nonfatal snorkel drownings.” The study also had a survey conducted at Oahu’s most popular snorkeling spot, Hanauma Bay, but only 36 participants – mostly locals – were interviewed due to the islands being closed to travel during the pandemic.

The high altitude from air travel impacting someone’s lungs may be a contributing factor, but there wasn’t enough evidence in the study to confirm this. Since getting to Hawaii requires at least a five-hour flight, it’s possible that fatigue and stress from flying could play a role in someone’s risk of drowning by ROPE.

The Hawaiian Tourism Authority funded the study to “develop appropriate safety messages.” However, as of April 2024, there have not been any public-facing messages on any of the official Hawaii tourism websites. Information cards have been passed out to most Kauai and Oahu tour boat operators, the subcommittee said. Although the study is preliminary and not robust in terms of participants and even calls for further investigation, it is the only one to explore ROPE in snorkelers so far.

“Why aren’t we in Hawaii letting people know?” said Jay Stuemke, an Oahu-based attorney who filed the complaint on the Johnsons’ behalf. “Pamphlets in rooms, apps, websites, in-room videos, all types of mechanisms to warn people. It’s an easy enough thing to do. We believe had they done that, Ray would still be alive today as well as many other people.”

Snorkeling safety tips

◾ Always snorkel with a buddy, and if you can’t swim, don’t snorkel.

◾ Choose a snorkel with a wide opening and no constrictions in the mouthpiece.

◾ Learn to use the snorkel device before venturing out into water that’s too deep to stand in.

◾ If you feel shortness of breath, stay calm, remove the snorkel and get out of the water immediately, Dasgupta said.

Only you know the capabilties of your girls, but if any doubt, I would recommend the vest. The tide pools as sharks cove are usually pretty good but if you go in the main part it gets deep pretty quickly and the currents can be strong dpending on the ocean condtions.

Also you may know this but its extremly rocky with lots of sharp rocks and coral. Water shoes with a decent sole would be good. Also it can get very busy so be prepared for that.

Water shoes for sure, and if you're in any doubt as to your kids' abilities, then vests as well. The entry to the main cove is not merely rocky underfoot but via narrow, shallow channels between some big rocks; it's easy to get scraped on the way in or out. Three Tables just a short walk down the road is also excellent and has a sandy, much easier entry.

Foodland is directly cross the street, FYI. Parking is usually tougher to find than the cove.

COURTESY KAMIKA SMITH

Walter James Smith Jr.

He was 12 when his father started Smith’s Motor Boat Service, and after his father’s death in 1970, took over as president

Walter James Smith Jr. — known to family, friends and colleagues as “Freckles” — died April 19 at his home in Kapahi, Kauai. He was 89.

Born and raised on the Garden Island, a graduate of Kapaa High School and Kauai Vocational School, Smith was 12 when his father put a borrowed outboard motor on a rowboat and took a group of tourists up the Wailua River to see Fern Grotto. From that first journey up the river came the family business, Smith’s Motor Boat Service Inc., and as “Freckles” Smith grew into the family business he became one of the company’s boat-captain tour guides who shared the history and cultural traditions of the Wailua River Valley with visitors from around the world.

Smith became the company’s president after his father died in 1970. In 1983 he expanded the business with the opening of Smith’s Tropical Paradise, a tropical botanical garden that became the home of the Smith Family Garden Luau.

Smith’s son, Walter Kamika Smith III, remembered him as, “A friendly guy that just wanted to do good for his family.”

“Being around him was like being around the friendliest person because everybody loves him,” Kamika Smith said. “As for working with him, he was very strict (about) making sure everybody’s doing their job. He drove around in a golf cart, and as soon as people saw the golf cart coming around the corner, they were jumping up and making sure that they were in their places at work. With the customers he wanted to make (sure) that everyone had a good time.”

In the aftermath of Hurricane Iniki in 1992, Smith became Kauai’s “ambassador of tourism,” traveling to visitor industry conventions as far away as Egypt to deliver the message that Kauai had survived and would soon be open for business.

Smith’s involvement in the visitor industry also included membership in the American Society of Travel Agents, the Pacific Asia Travel Association and the Japan Association of Travel Agents. He served on the Hawaiian Homes Commission from 1986 to 1993.

Kamika Smith plans to continue the family legacy.

“I was somewhat groomed (for the business), he said. “I was told, ‘You need to make sure that the family business continues,’ so with my other brother who is also working in the business we’re going to continue the family legacy and continue the tours and the luau. Continue to keep our family employed, as well as all of our employees working, and to share the Hawaiian culture and spirit that my grandfather and father did.”

In addition to his son, Kamika, Smith is survived by his wife, Mokihana; his son Kaleo Smith (Stacie); grandchildren, Trey (Shaianne), Tyler (Shannon) and Kira (Jared) and great grandchildren, Trayce, Teiah and Kailer.

A Celebration of Life will be held May 18 at Smith’s Tropical Paradise, 3-5971 Kuhio Highway, Kapaa, Kauai. Visitation with the family will start at 9 a.m. with services to follow.
