Aviva Stadium

Aviva Stadium

Club: none | Opening: 2010 | Capacity: 50,000 seats

History and description

Aviva Stadium is the national stadium of Ireland and the playing venue of the Irish national team. It also hosts most of the nation’s major rugby matches.

Aviva Stadium was built on the place of the old Lansdowne Road Stadium, which was one of the oldest stadiums in the world when it got demolished in 2007. Construction of Aviva Stadium started right after and finished in early 2010. The stadium had a price tag of €410 million and was designed by Populous .

Aviva Stadium officially opened on 14 May 2010. First football was played on 4 August 2010 when a League of Ireland side hosted Manchester United for a friendly (1-7).

In 2011 the stadium was the playing venue of the Europa League final between FC Porto and SC Braga (1-0).

Aviva Stadium was part of the initial selection of playing venues for the Euro 2020 Championships, but was removed because it could not offer assurances that spectators would be admitted due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The stadium’s most notable feature are its curvilinear shaped stands enclosing the complete stadium, a shape chosen to make sure that the surrounding houses get enough sunlight. The stadium holds a total of 10,000 premium seats as well as 1,300 seats in corporate boxes.

How to get to Aviva Stadium

Aviva Stadium is located in central Dublin in the Ballsbridge area, about 2 kilometres from the city centre. The walk from St Stephen’s Green park or the Trinity College area will take 20 to 30 minutes.

Great stadium. Looks amazing both outside and inside. Went to watch Euro 2016 qualifier between Ireland and Poland. Cracking atmosphere. We walked from city centre and I took us about 40 minutes. Quality food is sold in kiosks around the stadium. There was no alcohol sold on that day. Would go there again any day.

Three quarters of a wonderful stadium! It really does seem absurd not to finish it properly, though. It’s the National Stadium for heaven’s sake! The residents to the north could surely be relocated and suitably compensated to make way for this.

Went to an autumn rugby international a year or two ago, Ireland v Argentina. Only about 40,000 attendance, but a great atmosphere nonetheless. I wish that pint-sized end stand was made a little bigger, it takes away from the atmosphere. Great facility, though. Very clean and modern.

Aviva Stadium Guide: Seating, History, and Tips for Ireland's Premier Sports Venue

Nestled in the heart of Dublin lies the Aviva Stadium, a fusion of historic reverence and contemporary brilliance. As Ireland’s hallmark of sporting grandeur, the Aviva Stadium is not just an architectural marvel but a symbol of the nation’s passionate affair with sports and entertainment.

Constructed on the grounds of the former Lansdowne Road Stadium, Aviva Stadium opened its doors to the public in 2010. With its distinctive, bowl-like design, and a seating capacity of over 51,000, it quickly became a landmark for sporting and entertainment events.

A Glimpse into the Past: The Evolution of Aviva Stadium

From its inception as the Lansdowne Road Stadium in the 1870s, this ground has witnessed the ebb and flow of time. Originally conceived by Henry Dunlop, it became an arena for diverse sports – from cricket and rugby to croquet.

The Birth of Aviva Stadium

It all began in the early 1870s when Henry Dunlop, an enthusiastic organiser of sporting events, created a multi-sport ground that was originally known as Lansdowne Road Stadium.

This ground, which can rightly be considered the predecessor of the modern-day Aviva Stadium, was home to a variety of sports such as cricket, rugby, and even croquet.

The Evolution

As the years rolled on, the stadium began to cement its status as the heart of Irish sport. In 1876, the first rugby international was played between Ireland and England.

This marked the beginning of a long-standing tradition of hosting major international rugby games, a tradition that Aviva Stadium continues to this day.

Fast forward to the start of the 20th century, the stadium underwent a series of renovations and expansions. Despite the changes, the quaint charm of the original stadium remained intact, much to the delight of its patrons.

The Transformation into Aviva Stadium

In 2007, a significant transformation took place. The old Lansdowne Road Stadium was demolished to make way for a new, state-of-the-art venue – the Aviva Stadium.

This marked a new chapter in the stadium’s history, as it became a symbol of Ireland’s progress and commitment to sporting excellence.

The new Aviva Stadium opened its doors in May 2010, boasting a capacity of 51,700 spectators. With its distinctive bowl-like design and transparent façade, it truly is a architectural marvel.

Discovering the Architectural Marvels of Aviva Stadium :

The stadium’s design, brought to life by the internationally recognized architecture firm Populous , takes inspiration from Ireland’s rich maritime history. The smooth and flowing form of the stadium, akin to a wave, is a nod to the country’s deep-rooted connection with the sea.

The Unique Bowl Design :

The bowl design of Aviva Stadium isn’t just aesthetic; it’s strategic. It ensures every spectator, regardless of where they sit, gets an unobstructed view of the field, amplifying the thrill of live matches.

Aviva Stadium Bowl Design

Transparent Facade

The polycarbonate façade serves dual purposes: it immerses the interiors in a cascade of natural light and provides spectators with picturesque views of Dublin, adding a unique dimension to the match-watching experience.

What is the parking situation like at Aviva Stadium?

As a premier sporting and entertainment venue, the stadium provides several parking options, ensuring visitors’ convenience and peace of mind. However, due to the limited availability of spaces, advance planning is highly recommended.

Official Car Parks

The Aviva Stadium has an official car park, which is situated beneath the stadium itself. It’s a convenient spot, yet it offers limited spaces.

The available spots tend to fill up quite fast, especially on event days. Hence, if you plan to park here, make sure you book your space early.

Nearby Parking Options

If you find the official car park full, don’t fret. There are several other parking facilities available within walking distance of the stadium. These include:

  • Q-Park Grand Canal Square : Another option for parking, located about a 20-minute walk from Aviva Stadium.
  • Pearse Street Car Park : A convenient and safe car parking option, located just a 10-minute walk away from the stadium.

Street Parking

Street parking is also an option, but it’s subject to availability and is often time-restricted, especially on event days.

It’s worth noting that parking enforcement is quite strict around the stadium, so ensure that you are not in violation of any parking regulations to avoid penalties.

Parking for Disabled Visitors

Aviva Stadium takes care of its visitors with special needs. Disabled parking spaces are available at the official car park.

However, these also get filled pretty fast, so remember to reserve your spot well in advance.

Remember, the best way to secure a parking space at the Aviva Stadium is to plan ahead and book in advance. Also, consider using public transportation or taxis to avoid parking issues, especially on event days.

Taylor Swift bag rules for every UK arena as cheap Eras Tour resale tickets still available to buy with two days to go

  • 13:56, 5 JUN 2024

book aviva stadium tour

Many Taylor Swift fans will be rejoicing as there is just two days to go until the pop phenomenon touches down in the UK for her first Eras Tour performance on British soil. Many lucky Swifties who managed to bag tickets to one of her 18 UK and Ireland shows will surely be already planning their outfits and making friendship bracelets ahead of the stadium concerts.

The Midnights star will first play Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium on June 7, 2024. After that, she has a three-day stint in Liverpool before heading towards Cardiff's Principality Stadium, Dublin's IE Aviva Stadium and London's Wembley Stadium, where she is set to play six mega shows in June and August.

However, these shows and events taking place through June and August 2024 will have some restrictions, as the Express reports. These venues have strict rules on what kind of bags fans can bring to the events. Thankfully, we've got a full list of what you can and cannot take into these venues. Here's the breakdown:

Edinburgh Murrayfield Stadium

Taylor Swift will kick off her UK Eras Tour shows this week at Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium. Taking place on June 7, 8 and 9, the Fortnight singer will see her fans being restricted to bringing bags no larger than A4 size (21cm x 30cm) into the venue.

A further advisory from Murrayfield Stadium states: "Fans are advised to bring only essential items." To get tickets visit here or here .

Liverpool Anfield Stadium

The creator of The Tortured Poets Department will be hitting The Beatles' homeland on June 13, 14 and 15 this year. The official word on what bags are allowed into the venue are as follows: Only bags sized A5 or smaller (17cm x 30cm) are allowed.

On top of this, bags purchased within the venues will be permitted throughout the events. To get tickets visit here or here .

Cardiff Principality Stadium

Taylor Swift will be arriving in Wales to play her Eras Tour on June 18, 21 and 22 this year. However, for fans attending the shows on these dates, only small bags will be permitted into the venue. In fact, bags will be restricted to just 35cm x 40cm x 19cm.

Anything bigger than these dimensions will not be allowed in to the Principality Stadium. To get tickets visit here or here .

London Wembley Stadium

Wembley Stadium is by far the largest venue in the country and has the most dates available on Taylor Swift's Eras Tour. She'll be hitting the capital on June 21, 22 and 23, before returning on August 16, 17, 19 and 20.

The restrictions are similar to other venues in the country, with one major change. Bags brought into Wembley Stadium are not to be larger than A4 (297mm x 210mm x 210mm).

Attendees are also not permitted to bring in more than one bag each. To get tickets visit here or here .

Dublin IE Aviva Stadium

Dublin is the only city in Ireland that Taylor is set to perform in. She'll be landing at the IE Aviva Stadium on June 28, 29 and 30.

The restrictions are the largely the same as some of the the other venues in the UK. Only small bags under an A5 (17cm x 30cm) size are allowed.

Buy Taylor Swift resale tickets

For fans who have not yet bought tickets for the upcoming Eras Tour, they do still have a chance. While official ticket sellers have already sold out, tickets are available from various resale websites such as viagogo and Vivid Seats.

Although these tickets are not being officially sold by the likes of Ticketmaster, AXS, or more, their validity would have been confirmed by the point of sale. Here's the links you need:

  • VIAGOGO - Buy Taylor Swift tickets right here
  • VIVIDSEATS - Buy Taylor Swift tickets right here

Sites such as viagogo and Vivid Seats allow fans to buy resale tickets from other fans. However, it is important to note that many event promoters say tickets should not be resold after initial purchase and will not be valid for admittance to gigs.

Fans attending live events with tickets acquired through resale websites are advised to double-check the ticket terms and conditions at the point of sale - such as Ticketmaster or Live Nation - to ensure a smooth live event experience. Tickets could be voided if they were found to be bought second-hand. As a result, fans are buying at their own risk.

With that said, viagogo also commented: "viagogo is a regulated marketplace where fans have the freedom to buy and sell tickets to their favourite live events, safely and securely, backed by a guarantee."

UK to experience revamped version of Taylor Swift’s Eras tour

The US superstar will arrive in the UK to kick off three nights in Scotland from June 7.

book aviva stadium tour

Taylor Swift will perform her revamped Eras tour in the UK, featuring changes to her setlist, support acts and costumes.

The US superstar restructured the concert as she kicked off the European leg of her juggernaut tour in Paris at the beginning of May.

She cut several songs to showcase music from her new album, The Tortured Poets Department, including But Daddy I Love Him, Down Bad, Fortnight, The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived, and I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.

Sweden Taylor Swift

Those tracks are widely interpreted to be about her rumoured romance with The 1975 frontman Matty Healy.

Fans have compared some of the staging of numbers in that section of the show to performances by the British singer, including Swift’s theatrics in the transition to I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.

The use of marching drummers and a salute during The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived also bears a striking similarity to videos of a Healy performance.

Swift dubbed the new section of her show Female Rage: The Musical.

She has also started repeating songs in the “surprise song” portion of her acoustic set, and introducing mash-ups.

The US star arrives in the UK on June 7 for three nights at the Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh before playing three nights at Liverpool’s Anfield Stadium, followed by a performance at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff and then three back-to-back shows at London’s Wembley.

She will also play three nights at Dublin’s Aviva Stadium.

Paramore

US pop-punk band Paramore, consisting of Hayley Williams, Taylor York and Zac Farro, will support Swift across all the UK dates.

Brit Awards Rising Star winner Griff will join Paramore in supporting Swift in London on June 22; US singer Mette will perform in London on June 21; and US singer-songwriter Benson Boone will be on the bill on June 23.

The support acts have changed since Swift began touring in March 2023.

Stars including Filipino-English singer Beabadoobee and US star Sabrina Carpenter have performed, while Gracie Abrams, who opened for Swift at the beginning of the tour, is set to return after the UK performances during the Canada dates.

Meanwhile, UK fans will experience several new costumes from Swift which were debuted at the beginning of the European leg – including a red sparkling bodysuit for the opening section of the show.

She is also expected to perform The Tortured Poets Department portion of the gig in a cream ball gown, with the on-stage visuals adopting a black-and-white theme.

The tour is themed around the different “eras” Swift has created during her career, with dedicated sets for each of her 11 studio albums.

Coordinates of Elektrostal in decimal degrees

Coordinates of elektrostal in degrees and decimal minutes, utm coordinates of elektrostal, geographic coordinate systems.

WGS 84 coordinate reference system is the latest revision of the World Geodetic System, which is used in mapping and navigation, including GPS satellite navigation system (the Global Positioning System).

Geographic coordinates (latitude and longitude) define a position on the Earth’s surface. Coordinates are angular units. The canonical form of latitude and longitude representation uses degrees (°), minutes (′), and seconds (″). GPS systems widely use coordinates in degrees and decimal minutes, or in decimal degrees.

Latitude varies from −90° to 90°. The latitude of the Equator is 0°; the latitude of the South Pole is −90°; the latitude of the North Pole is 90°. Positive latitude values correspond to the geographic locations north of the Equator (abbrev. N). Negative latitude values correspond to the geographic locations south of the Equator (abbrev. S).

Longitude is counted from the prime meridian ( IERS Reference Meridian for WGS 84) and varies from −180° to 180°. Positive longitude values correspond to the geographic locations east of the prime meridian (abbrev. E). Negative longitude values correspond to the geographic locations west of the prime meridian (abbrev. W).

UTM or Universal Transverse Mercator coordinate system divides the Earth’s surface into 60 longitudinal zones. The coordinates of a location within each zone are defined as a planar coordinate pair related to the intersection of the equator and the zone’s central meridian, and measured in meters.

Elevation above sea level is a measure of a geographic location’s height. We are using the global digital elevation model GTOPO30 .
