The ultimate Cape Point Tour by Cape Xtreme is definitely a tour you must take when you arrive in Cape Town, South Africa! If you are the kind of person who likes to know everything about a city: the must-see places, culture, history, nature, religion and gastronomy then this tour is perfect for you.

On one hand, if you are on a quick trip on Cape Town and you need to visit all the important places before you leave, then you’ll save a lot of time and money if you take this tour because it encompasses the whole Cape Peninsula area and all the historical and environmental highlights.

On the other hand, if you are staying more time in Cape Town, then you’ll have a complete overview about this beautiful city and you’ll also be able to visit again your favorite places afterwards.

For instance, I loved Camps Bay so after the tour I went again to spend a whole day with a friend ( Camps Bay Beach: have fun & chill in Cape Town, South Africa ); and I also returned to Bo-Kaap ( Bo-Kaap: the rainbow colored houses in Cape Town, South Africa )

The Basics of the Ultimate Cape Point Tour

The tour guide.

Our tour guide was the awesome Khotso , he is original from Cape Town and has bast experience giving the Ultimate Cape Point Tour as well as other tours.

I was impressed with the amount of information he knew and besides that he was friendly and funny and took awesome pictures for us!

The Transportation

We were moving on a very spacious and comfortable van. It was also very convenient because we were able to leave our bags secure there while we went out to see each place.

The tour lasted 8 hours. Khotso picked me up from Mojo Hotel ( My stay at the trendy Mojo Hotel in Cape Town, South Africa ) at 7:30 am and brought me back at 4:00 pm.

Let me share with you my favorite 10 places of the tour!

The first stop of the tour was Bo-Kaap; which is the perfect place to start taking a lot of pictures because the beautiful colored houses and mountains in the landscape make it one of the most photographed places in Cape Town.

Translated from Afrikaans Bo-Kaap means “Above the Cape”, and this place is full of history dating back to the settlement of European travelers in 1615. The residents of Bo-Kaap are descendants of slaves that were imported by the Dutch East India Company from Asia and Africa.

2. Camps Bay

Our next stop was Camps Bay, this place is one of the most expensive areas in Cape Town and also has one of the most beautiful beaches. 

The beach has blue flag status : an international symbol of quality for beaches, boats and marinas that meet a standard of excellence in the areas of safety, amenities, cleanliness, environmental information and environmental management.

3. Hout Bay

Then we had a complete view of Hout Bay, a fantastic sea-side neighbourhood in Cape Town known for fishing, surfing, leisure and tourism.

4. Chapman’s Peak Drive

We continued our trip driving through Chapman’s Peak Drive which is considered one of the world’s most scenic drives.

An interesting fact mentioned by our tour guide, Khotso, was that a car chase scene for the movie Quantum of Solace was filmed there.

5. Cape Point National Reserve

The next stop was Cape Point National Reserve, which is filled with beautiful nature encompassing different kinds of flowers, many animals, dramatic scenery, fantastic hiking trails, and deserted beaches. I loved the landscape and the beautiful animals that came to say hello!

Two of the main attractions are Cape of Good Hope and Cape Point:

Cape of Good Hope

Get ready for strong wind! When I got out of the car at Cape of Good Hope I felt like I was going to fly away to the ocean, but then waiting for the wind to calm down I was able to go to the famous picture spot.

Now, I realize why Bartholomew Dias – the first European known to set foot on South African soil- named it “the Cape of Storms”,  but King John II of Portugal later renamed it Cape of Good Hope.

Cape Point Lighthouse

Enjoy the panoramic views from Cape Point Lighthouse. You’ll gonna have to walk around 20 minutes to get to the highest section of the peak, but you’ll have fun in the way because of its scenic views and the monkey friends you’ll make on the way – beware of the baboons stealing your bags for food, otherwise they are friendly and just hang around taking the sun.

6. Boulders Beach

Get to know the African Penguins at Boulders Beach.

Why is it called like that? the big rocks in the ocean are called boulders, and this place is full of them. The following are some interesting facts:

• The penguins that are currently there are not original from that area. They were brought by scientist who grew a colony from only a couple.
• Don’t worry if some penguins look upset or sick, this is because for 20 days they loose all their fur to renew it.

7. Kalk Bay Harbour

We stoped at Kalk Bay Harbour where we had a look at the statue of the dog “ Just Nuisance “, the only dog ever to be officially enlisted in the Royal Navy. He was a Great Dane who between 1939 and 1944 served at HMS Afrikander, a Royal Navy shore establishment. He died when he was seven years old and was buried with full military honors.

We had delicious typical fish and chips at the “Salty Sea Dog” restaurant. The place is nice and clean and while we were eating we got to know each other on the group and also our tour guide, Khotso, gave us more interesting facts about Cape Town.

9. Shark Spotters View

On the way back we stoped in a Shark Spotters Lookout Point which had a great view to Muizenberg beach. It was interesting to know the meaning of the flags and why it is entrusted by the local surfers of Muizenberg to look out for Great White Sharks.

10. Constantia Wine Valley

The final spot we visited was the beautiful Constantia Wine Valley, the oldest wine farm outside of Europe. I absolutely loved it because it was so pretty and full of nice spots to take pictures.

Here you’re going to find wine farms, restaurants, activities and retailers. If you want you can have the wine tasting experience (at extra cost) but if you don’t want it you’ll can also walk along this nice place and learn about its history.

Highland Light reopens to public after renovation: What to know about the Truro lighthouse

Highland Light in Truro is looking pretty spiffy these days.

According to the Cape Cod National Seashore , the legendary lighthouse has a new breathable coating, and masonry has been repaired, part of a recent renovation project that will be celebrated at a rededication ceremony at 10 a.m. on May 3.

The renovation project was launched after a National Park Service historic architecture team determined that a ventilation issue was accelerating deterioration of the structure, including exterior cracks and corrosion.

The ventilation issue stemmed from the application of a cement-like material to fill in air spaces and stabilize the lighthouse during its move back from an eroding cliff in 1996 , according to the Seashore. This cement filling, along with non-breathable coatings applied to the lighthouse over the years, reduced venting and allowed excessive moisture to build up.

With the Highland Light's seasonal tours also set to launch on May 3, we thought we'd take a look at the popular beacon's history.

When was Highland Light built?

According to the Highland Light website (highlandlighthouse.org), there have been three towers at the Highland Light site over the years. The first version, a 45-foot-tall wooden tower, was established in 1797. In 1831, a new brick lighthouse was built. The 66-foot-tall brick tower that we see today was built in 1857, along with a keeper's house and generator shed.

Why was Highland Light moved in 1996?

While Highland Light was once located at a comfortable distance from the Atlantic-facing cliffs, erosion kept carving away at the margin. According to the National Park Service, "Erosion of the steep cliff throughout the years brought the present light station around 100 feet from the cliff's edge by the early 1990s."

The Truro Historical Society raised funds to move the lighthouse, buoyed by federal and state grants. In 1996, the lighthouse was moved 450 feet inland, according to the National Park Service

Here's how the Truro Historical Society described the moving operation:

"Using hydraulic jacks, the entire structure was lifted, mounted on rollers and set on rails. Thousands of visitors gathered to watch the move, which took place over eighteen days. During the move, workers placed quarters on the beams. The whole process went so slowly that you could only tell that the lighthouse was moving by watching the coins on the rails."

Have any celebrities stayed at Highland Light?

Literary superstar Henry David Thoreau stayed at Highland Light twice while visiting the Cape and wrote about the experience in his book " Cape Cod ," according to Cape Cod National Seashore historian William Burke.

It seems like Thoreau took full advantage of his unusual lodgings, according to this passage from "Cape Cod": "As we were going to spend the night in a light-house, we wished to make the most of so novel an experience, and therefore told our host that we would like to accompany him when he went to light up. At rather early candle-light he lighted a small Japan lamp, allowing it to smoke rather more than we like on ordinary occasions, and told us to follow him."

How can I tour Highland Light?

Tours will run daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. from May 3 through Oct. 31. The last tour of the day starts at 4:30 p.m. In addition to the tour, the Highland Light keeper's shop offers an assortment of interesting items for sale.

There is a tour charge: $8 for adults, $5 for students and $7 for seniors and military members. Children must be at least 48" tall to climb the lighthouse because of the stairs and ladders. For more information, visit the Highland Light website.

World of Outlaws, Xtreme Outlaw tours joining for Ohio doubleheader at Atomic Speedway

C HILLICOTHE – Ohio race fans will be treated to a doubleheader weekend at Atomic Speedway with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota in May. For the first time, the two national series will run together at the 3/8-mile Chillicothe, track on Friday-Saturday, May 24-25.

It'll mark the end of the World of Outlaws' spring Ohio swing and the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series' first stop in Ohio this season.

The iconic Ohio track has produced some of the most exciting races in World of Outlaws history and has seen four different winners in the last four Series races there – including Ohio's Sheldon Haudenschild in 2022. Last year, Jade Avedisian scored the win with the Xtreme Outlaw Midgets at Atomic – one of five victories she picked up en route to her becoming the first woman to win a national dirt racing title.

• For any tour departing before 1st July 2024 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after 1st July 2024, a minimum payment of 20% is required to confirm your booking with Cape Xtreme. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.

• The following cards are accepted for "Cape Xtreme" tours: Visa, Maestro, Mastercard, American Express or PayPal. TourRadar does NOT charge you an extra fee for using any of these payment methods.
• Insurance Unless otherwise mentioned, TourRadar does not provide travel insurance. We do however recommend purchasing it through our tried and trusted partner, World Travel Nomads .
