No journey to Australia is complete without exploring the tranquil beauty of the Blue Mountains. Our Blue Mountains Day Tour offers breathtaking views from the mountain tops, spectacular wildlife, and much more.

We start our Blue Mountains Day Tour with some of Australia’s cutest and cuddliest native animals at the Sydney Zoo. Spend the morning feeding kangaroos, cuddling koalas, and meeting other native animals at the zoo. There are also animals from Africa and Asia including Sydney’s only rhino. Be sure to have your camera handy to capture these adorable animals in action! You’ll also receive a complimentary First Nations talk. An experienced guide will teach you about the local Indigenous communities.

We’ll say goodbye to our new furry friends at the zoo and head for the Blue Mountains. Your 1 Day Blue Mountains Tour would not be complete without a visit to Echo Point to admire the iconic Three Sisters. Be sure to bring your camera to capture the beautiful scenery!

Next, we head towards Scenic World, where you can ride the world’s steepest Scenic Railway, the Scenic Skyway or the Cableway (rides at your own expense). Alternatively, you can enjoy a self-guided hike along the Prince Henry Cliff Walk! There are a number of lookouts to admire including the Orphan Rock Lookout, Katoomba Falls Lookout, and more. Amazing experience with our tour guide Adam! He was very entertaining and we got to see so many amazing views in the Blue mountains and went to Featherdale!

Madison M March 2024

My husband and I took all day tour to Blue Mountains with Anderson’s Tours. Our guide Mark was very informative and fun guy to tour with. He was very knowledgeable of the local history and places to go and see. The bus held 20 people and was very clean and comfortable. All ticket fees were included in the price of this tour so all you need to pay for is snacks/drinks at a couple of stops we went to. I have to extend a special thanks to Mark for going above and beyond in helping my husband who has mobility issues and was struggling keeping up with the group. Without his assistance, my husband would have not been able to safely enjoy everything this tour had to offer.

Snubes March 2024

We had a great time with our driver/guide, Gabe. The weather was not as cooperative, but he made some adjustments, and we were able to see some of the blue mountain sights. We even got to see a couple of lyrebirds in the rainforest. It was sad that our tram ride was completely in the clouds, so we couldn’t see the falls. He drove to another waterfall just so we could see one and get pictures. He also doubled back after lunch to try to get the Vista view of the blue mountains, and we were able to get a peek between the clouds. Gabe narrated our ride with interesting stories and aboriginal music. This trip was awesome, and definately worth the time.

denise March 2024

Rin was a fun, thoughtful and professional tour guide. She was THE BEST tour guide we have ever had in all these years actually. It was foggy at the Three Sisters and she went out of her way to return some time later to see if it would clear as she knew we all ( on the tour) came to see that! It finally cleared for about 10 minutes and you could hear our tour and all the other tourists cheering!

LovesNewHampshire March 2024

This was an amazing day trip we took with Anderson tours from Sydney. Our tour guide Adam was fantastic. He carefully thought through our schedule of things to see and had us there ahead of the crowds which made the experience even better for us. Adam was informative, funny, cared about his group getting the best experience possible and he played great music in the bus!! The cost of the tour was well worth it, we got to spend ample time seeing the Blue Mountains National Park, Three Sisters, taking the gondolas and cable car, had a great lunch at The Bunker Restaurant, to the Featherdale Wildlife Park and finally a ferry ride back to Sydney Harbour.

Janet C March 2024

My husband and I had the most amazing time! Our guide, Steve, was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful during the entire day. He went above and beyond and helped us have the best experience at every single stop. He even took us to some bonus spots! We can’t recommend this tour or thank him enough! It was a day full of beautiful views, great information, and incredible experiences such as riding the steepest railway in the world and feeding kangaroos. 10/10!

Katie B. August 2023

The guides were great. I had Bob for most of the trip and then KG for Featherdale who gave me a personal guided tour of the sanctuary after I was inadvertently transferred to the bus that was going to the zoo. I had no idea the Blue Mountains were as impressive as they are (much like the Grand Canyon but more green). And, Scenic World was neat with the world’s steepest railway. Featherdale has mostly indigenous animals, so much better than Taronga Zoo which I had visited the day before.

Bruce S. August 2023

Bob was so great, he drove us to alternate locations when the fog and mist obstructed views. Bob was friendly, and very informative – and it seemed like he had great relationships with the attraction operators. He made sure we all had a great experience

Mike W. August 2023

Our Guide K.G , really did make the tour worthwhile. Wealth of knowledge throughout the “entire” trip. Fully engaged from 1st greet to send off on the Ferry home. She was able to modify the schedule to ensure we were able to see all we wanted to while we negotiated the fog and rainy moments. Would highly recommend this tour group company, and will definitely consider it again on my next visit

J A August 2023

This tour was well organized, on time and stopped at amazing sights throughout the Blue Mountains. Our tour guide, Bob, was incredible. He read the weather patterns and made choices on the sequence of sights so that we had the best views. And we had a tricky day of weather so that was no small task. He also shared great local and Aboriginal knowledge.

Stacey S. August 2023

Great experience! Highly recommend going on small group tour as it wasn’t crowded and was very well organised with itinerary of the day. Our tour guide Mark was fantastic! Very informative on history of Australia & sights on way up to Blue Mountains. Was able to answer any questions with ease and passion. Thank you Mark for showing us amazing views on a few mountain outlooks. The highlight for us was going out to the 3 Sisters as we were 3 sisters on our weekend away to Sydney!

Sabrina D. April 2023

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and made the trip interesting. The views were fantastic. The food that was provided was very nice. It was nice to reach the blue Mountains early before the rush time when other big coaches arrive. Also the smaller coach allowed us to go to other lookouts that the large buses could not access. First class service all the way. I would highly recommend Anderson’s tours.

Alan B. April 2023

Robert and the Anderson company was very accommodating. Our bus had a door issue and they immediately remedied the situation. Robert did everything he could to make our trip amazing even with the uncooperative weather. The look out point we finally found without clouds was great. Robert made sure we saw the mountains. Scenic world was fun. Lunch was great. Zoo was fun. Loved seeing the koalas and kangaroos. The ferry home was great. All steps of the way were taken care of and Robert made the day very enjoyable. You can tell he his loves his home of Australia and has an engaging way of sharing it with travelers. I highly recommend this tour. He went out of his way to make sure we had a great experience.

Allison C. April 2023

Mike was an awesome driver. Very knowledgeable and lotsa dad jokes to keep us amused. Beautiful trip through the Blue Mountain Park with lunch, Featherdale Wildlife Park & Ferry ride to end it all. Well worth the money. Leaving early beats the crowds, though you may want to buy some pastries the night before.

Alex Riette February 2023

We would like to start by saying Robert is by far one of the best tour guides we have ever had! He is very knowledgeable of all the areas we visited. Super nice guy! Even though the weather was bad, he made the day very enjoyable. We really enjoyed the world’s steepest train ride and the boardwalk through the rainforest. It is a very well organized tour. Highly recommended!

Dan Luci February 2023

Excellent day with Steve who was our guide and driver. Funny and interesting commentary and he went above and beyond to ensure we saw all the sites even with the varying and challenging weather. It was a very full and exhausting day, finishing off with the spectacular ferry ride to Darling Harbour. Thank you for a great day!

Estimated reading time: 13 minutes

Everyone’s itinerary in Sydney has to have a  Blue Mountains day tour from Sydney . Here, we will see the heritage value of the Blue Mountains and why it should be one of your things to do in Sydney . Get tips from a local guide to enjoy the best Blue Mountains Tour.

Why should the Blue Mountains tour be on your bucket list if you visit Sydney, Australia? – Blue Mountains tour from Sydney

Blue Mountains is the most visited place by tourists to Sydney Australia. There are many reasons you should add the  Blue Mountains tour from Sydney  to your day trips from Sydney bucket list if you visit the land down under.

Here is why!

Blue Mountains is a world heritage site listed by UNESCO in 2000. The Blue Mountains is an area that is beautifully contrasting to the rest of Australia’s nature. The entire area includes ten national parks where you get to enjoy the native Australian animals at their best.

The region also has dense forests and sandstone cliffs to add more color to it. The cascades of mesmerizing waterfalls add just the right sound of nature to the already existing beauty in the whole area. You can enjoy the evening at the fantastic cafes and cute shops that oversee the mountain range. And with approximately 2 hours from Sydney by road via M1 and A32, you cannot afford to miss seeing the tremendous Blue Mountains. No visit to Sydney is complete until you visit the Blue Mountains.

What are the must-see Blue Mountains attractions?

Three sisters lookout in katoomba.

Part of the Blue Mountains area is the Three Sisters rock formation , which you MUST see when you visit the city. It is a spectacular landmark in the region, and one should experience it at least once in a lifetime. According to Aboriginal legend, the three unusual rock formations represent the three sisters that turned into stone. The structure illuminates till about 11 at night and brings the most mesmerizing set against the night sky. Standing proudly at the Echo Point Katoomba, the rocks are 922, 918, and 906 meters tall which makes it over 3000 feet above sea level!

Three Sisters Blue Mountains

These three sandstone peaks that had formed themselves over hundreds of years of erosion are picture-worthy and truly breathtaking. Here’s a tip for you: you can take the best selfie with the Three Sisters at the back from the Queen Elizabeth platform.

Optional things to add to your Blue Mountains tour bucket list?

A quick stop at lincoln’s lookout.

In 2013, Lincoln’s Lookout was named Lincoln’s Rock officially. People call Lincoln’s Lookout by different names such as Flat Rock and Wedding Rock. It is a huge flat rock, and many wedding couples come here to take photographs because of the picturesque background. The legendary Australian mountaineer Lincoln Hall used to live in Wentworth Falls, and hence the Lookout is now named after him. With encompassing views of the Jamison Valley, Lincoln’s Lookout is where you can take an impressive optical illusion picture because it looks like you are standing at the edge of a cliff. In essence, you are, but there is a safe ledge below that stops you from falling. It is a top place to have a picnic lunch on a beautiful day. Here is a tip to see a cave on the way to Lincoln’s Lookout; walk via the left-hand track.

Our suggestion for the Blue Mountains sunset tour

The Blue Mountains is a world heritage site that has won the hearts of everyone who has ever visited the place. But since it is a place everyone wants to visit; you might catch the crowds when you visit the Blue Mountains. An entire day spent in the Blue Mountains region with numerous activities can get you through crowded times. Therefore, here are some of our suggestions that may be helpful to you.

  • Avoid the crowd by organizing a sunset tour of the Blue Mountains.
  • Sunsets are most beautiful to watch from the Blue Mountains. Hence, you can arrange a  Blue Mountains Sunset tour  to enjoy an event full of crimson and fierce colours.
  • Do not forget to take your camera with a panoramic lens (or a smartphone) with you. The Blue Mountains is heaven on earth.
  • You can use public transport to get to the Blue Mountains , but getting to Sydney after dawn will be challenging due to the low frequency of trains.

Suggested ways to visit Blue Mountains day trip

There are several ways to visit the Blue Mountains and spend a day with nature. Here are some of Sydney tours to Blue Mountains and  Blue Mountains private tours to choose from. The kind of tour you choose depends on what you want to do during the day and how you want to travel.

You can use public transport and catch a train from Sydney to Katoomba

The best time to travel by train is the off-peak time, and ticket prices vary, depending on the time. If you choose a train before 7 am or after 9 am, it costs you $6.08 a ticket. During peak hours, the ticket price is $8.69. The return peak runs between 4 pm and 6.30 pm.

You can also opt for big coach tours from Sydney to the Blue Mountains

These big buses accommodate about 50 to 60 travellers on one bus. Depending on the kind of coach you select, the prices can vary from $55 to $99 for the whole tour. Considering everything, it is a cheap way to get to the Blue Mountains, but you will not be able to alter, change, and customize the tour as there are many people.

Booking a private Blue Mountains tour is the best way to explore the excellent Mountain range as it can help you customize your tour

A local guide, for example, Sydney Private Tour guides will be able to find you the best spots to take pictures, have food, and explore nature. Even though it is a little expensive compared to other ways, it can get you the best experience of visiting the Blue Mountains.

Self-drive to the Blue Mountains

But when you do, you have to be mindful that Australia has a right-hand driving style. Alpha Car hire, Thrifty Car Rental, and Sydney CBD are some of the car rental companies from which you can hire a car.

Check the weather in the Blue Mountains tour from Sydney before you go

Here is our final tip before you head to the  Blue Mountains tour from Sydney . Check the weather before you go! It is as simple as that. No use in spending so much time and money only to find out the view is blurry in the Blue Mountains. Summer is usually good because all activities will be available in all the areas, and the breathtaking view from the many pinnacles and lookouts will be as clear as possible.
