AWARDS, ACHIEVEMENTS, ACCOLADES

slide

What inspired me to join Carnival is the passion I have for cooking and my love for food. Which really become self of my life in the kitchen and the kitchen has become my first home. I work in the galley preparing the food, fish, pasta, some Filipino dishes, Indonesian dishes and Italian dishes as well. I do the main entrees and work in the crew food line. Working on an International cruise ship I learned how to cook different cuisine which I really love and really enjoy the most.

RIJAD FROM BOSNIA

I joined Carnival on February 5th, 2023, and it’s been a Great experience. First time working on cruise, adjusting was easy for me as I always loved traveling. It feels like home having a brother working for the same company for the past 7 years so that was a big part that attracted me, and the money is good. The beauty of working with family whilst traveling the world together is thrilling and can’t think of any another career opportunity that gives such a good balance.

ISHRON FROM ST. VINCENT & THE GRENADINES

I love traveling and as my boss says, ‘you get paid to travel!’ So that is nice, this is my opportunity, so I take it! As a galley attendant you work in the galley, so we do a lot of cleaning, plates, cups everything! In the galley we work as a team to get everything done easily. We have fun - we sing, dance a bit. It helps us get work done fast and the time go quickly.

MARIA THERSA FROM INDONESIA

It was in 2004 and I was reading a newspaper and I saw that Carnival was hiring so I applied. I believe that if you love what you are doing and you are happy with it - success will follow! Onboard I am responsible for the overall cleanliness of the cabin and of course with the proper PPE (personal protective equipment) and procedure. My advice to anyone thinking about applying to Carnival is just show your sincerity and love to your chosen career and success will follow.

ANTONIO FROM ITALY

What inspired me to join Carnival? Well it’s a cruise ship so it’s where I can increase my knowledge in electrical, tech and automation. I was thinking it was a good opportunity to join a cruise ship. A lot of my friends were talking really highly about the Carnival Family. If you have a passion of electrical work, Carnival is going to give you really good tools to increase your knowledge, to gain a lot of experience in automation, electrical and electronic stuff.

Not all job positions are on our recruiters' search list for candidates. This may vary, depending on our client's demand.

General rules.

IT IS PREFERRED THAT YOU ALREADY HAVE A VALID PASSPORT

YOU MUST BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OF AGE TO APPLY TO WORK ONBOARD

YOU MUST BE ABLE TO COMMIT TO A SIX (6) TO NINE (9) MONTHS CONTRACT AT SEA

YOU MUST BE FLUENT IN ENGLISH

Any additional international language is an asset:

German, French, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Mandarin, and Hebrew are languages in demand.

A high percentage of cruise lines have offices in the United States, where the minimum drinking age is 21. The ships do not have the facilities or staff to enforce drinking age limits for the crew. This, amongst other factors, is why cruise line employees must be at least 21 years old to work on board in most positions. There are some rare exceptions where staff can join the ships when aged between 18 and 20 years old.

Fire breaks out on world's largest cruise ship

CNNWire logo

Crew on board the world's largest cruise ship, the Icon of the Seas, were called on to tackle a fire this week as the gigantic vessel was berthed in a port in Mexico.

The "small fire" was "quickly extinguished" after it broke out on Tuesday, the ship's operator Royal Caribbean spokesperson confirmed to CNN Travel. The cruise line said there were no injuries and the overall on board impact was "minimal."

The video featured is from a previous report.

The record-breaking Icon of the Seas - which is nearly 1,200-foot-long and 250,800 gross tons - was docked in Costa Maya, Mexico when the incident occurred. The vessel briefly lost power, but back-up power was activated right away.

The Royal Caribbean spokesperson confirmed crew members controlled the blaze, explaining all crew are trained to handle such situations.

During the incident, on-board announcements alerted passengers about what was happening, according to the cruise line. Social media users on an Icon of the Seas Facebook group spoke of minor disruption to their day, but proceedings were quickly back to normal.

The $2-billion Icon of the Seas made headlines when the vessel launched earlier this year, with its seven swimming pools - including a record-breaking 17,000-square-foot water park. The vessel's current itinerary hasn't been impacted by the fire and the ship is now en route to the Mexican island of Cozumel.

In March, a fire broke out on a Carnival Cruise Lines ship, with footage captured by a passenger of the ship's tail ablaze.

Speaking to CNN Travel, a Royal Caribbean spokesperson said minor fires are "not common, but also not uncommon" on cruise ships, but are usually handled swiftly and with minimal disruption to passengers.

Fire breaks out on Royal Caribbean's Icon of the Seas, cruise ship loses power

cruise ship jobs mexico

A fire broke out on Royal Caribbean International’s Icon of the Seas cruise ship on Tuesday.

The ship also experienced a brief loss of power, according to Nathaniel Derrenbacher, a spokesperson for the line’s parent company, Royal Caribbean Group . The ship was docked in Costa Maya, Mexico, at the time.

There were no injuries and the small fire – which was isolated to a crew area – was quickly extinguished. The ship’s backup power was activated immediately, and the main power systems were restored.

Derrenbacher did not have additional information on where the fire occurred or how long the power outage lasted.

The vessel’s itinerary was not impacted. Icon, the biggest cruise ship in the world , is currently sailing a week-long Western Caribbean cruise that departed from Miami, Florida on Saturday, according to CruiseMapper . The ship is scheduled to visit Cozumel on Wednesday.

The news comes after a fire occurred in the exhaust funnel of Carnival Cruise Line’s Carnival Freedom ship in March, the second such fire on the vessel in less than two years.

Fire breaks out on world’s largest cruise ship just months after it first set sail

A fire has broken out on Icon of the Seas – the world’s largest cruise ship – causing it to lose power while docked in Mexico .

No one was injured in the “minor” blaze on Tuesday while the ship was in Costa Maya, a Royal Caribbean spokesperson told The Independent.

The fire was quickly extinguished, the spokesperson said.

Power was only lost briefly, as the backup systems kicked on right away and the main power was restored.

The fire started in the crew area of the ship but it’s not immediately clear what caused the fire, the spokesperson said, adding that the vessel will continue on its journey as scheduled.

The ship is scheduled to head to Cozumel, Mexico, on Wednesday, according to CruiseMapper .

The colossal cruise ship first set sail from Miami in January. Dubbed “the largest ship in the world,” the Icon of the Seas spans 1,200 feet long and holds up to 5,610 passengers across its 20 decks . The ship is operated by 2,350 crew members.

The massive vessel boasts seven pools, including the “largest pool at sea,” the “world’s largest waterpark at sea,” six waterslides and nine whirlpools. In addition to water activities, Icon of the Seas also has a rock climbing wall, Royal Caribbean’s first food hall, a beach-themed carousel, an arcade, and a mini-golf course.

The vessel touts more than 20 ways to dine, and more than 15 bars and “nightlife experiences,” including a karaoke bar, spread across its eight “neighborhoods.”

When images of the ship first launched, many expressed distaste for it, calling it a “monstrosity,” a “nightmare,” and “human lasagne.”

But the Royal Caribbean president Jason Liberty called it “biggest, baddest ship on the planet.” When bookings opened for the ship started in October 2023, Royal Caribbean had its strongest sales day in its 53-year history, the company noted.

Man travels the world on a cruise ship for free after quitting his day job: 'Have learned so much'

A musician at heart quit his full-time job to travel the world on a cruise ship — and said he’s loving the experience.

Jack Nolan is a 33-year-old musician from Exeter, England, who started working as a musician on cruise ships in 2016.

Now, eight years later, Nolan said he wouldn’t trade his career shift for the world as he’s gotten to experience so much that life has to offer.

CONSIDERING A CRUISE? HIGH SEAS MAY BE THE RIGHT OPTION FOR BOTH FAMILY AND WALLET

"Not many jobs will let you see so many countries and experience so much culture," he said, as SWNS reported.

After going to school and working in plumbing shops for a few years, Nolan said he was feeling burned out and wanted to make a change in his career.

READ ON THE FOX NEWS APP

"I was living for the weekend [and] still often worked Saturdays, too," he told SWNS.

Nolan said he received a call from a friend in 2016 asking if he knew anyone who could play the guitar to join a band he was putting together.

6 CRUISE SAFETY TIPS TO KEEP YOU PROTECTED AND AT EASE DURING YOUR VACATION AT SEA

"I told him I’d love to do it and from there, we recorded a promo video [and] sent it to agents and landed our first gig on a ferry in 2016," he said.

After the initial gig, Nolan said the band received their first contract for a cruise — and his new travel adventures began.

HOW TO PROTECT YOUR ONLINE PRIVACY AND SECURITY ON YOUR NEXT CRUISE VACATION

"I was so excited. The ships went to places like the Caribbean — and I had never been," he told SWNS.

Today, Nolan works as a musician aboard the Virgin Voyages cruise line and told Fox News Digital it’s the best of both worlds for him due to his newfound ability to see the world and his very low overhead.

Although his current pay each month "doesn’t sound like a huge amount, when you add in rent, bills, [and] food tax-free, it certainly becomes a great way to save cash," he said.

He makes about $4,000 a month in U.S. dollars.

The employee lives on the cruise ship and performs at night — so he can explore new travel spots each time the boat docks during the day.

Nolan said the favorite spots he’s visited so far include the Acropolis in Greece, the Colosseum in Rome, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia , the Hobbiton in New Zealand and the Blue Lagoon in Iceland.

"Not many jobs allow you to travel the world and get paid while doing so. Cruise ships can take you around 3-4 different countries in a week," he told Fox News Digital.

He said the beauty lies in knowing that one day you will be in one place — and the next somewhere totally different.

"Today, we are in Palma, Mallorca, [but] tomorrow we could be in France. Each day we wake up in another country," he told SWNS recently.

Nolan said that although cruise ship employees do sleep in close quarters, being able to get off the boat and explore is a great release.

"Even though we're older than [college] students, it gives that [same] vibe because we have these small rooms, and we are next door to each other."

While Nolan said he loves his job, he does hope to move back to land one day as he misses his family and friends , he said.

"I've met the most incredible people in my time working on cruise ships from all over the globe," he told Fox News Digital.
