Group cruises are a great way to spend a vacation with friends, family or any other type of group whether large or small. Cruises provide great value On a cruise people can opt to go their own way part of the time or, if they choose, join in on group activities. Dining can be together as a group or only for certain nights within a cruise. A group cruise can be set up in the way that works best for each group.
How does a Group Cruise Work?
While it varies by cruise line in general 8 cabins makes up a group, however, in some cases the number only 5 cabins maybe required to create a group. Once the number of cabins is determined we will hold the group space and then the group leader can promote the group, communicate the details such as pricing to the group, determine the dining and meeting space needs and get people excited to join the cruise.
Benefits of Booking a Group Cruise
There are many benefits of booking a group cruise. First is lower pricing and the rates are guaranteed for the categories that are held. Without booking into a group the rates are always subject to change. In addition, groups are offered extra amenities ranging from onboard credits, a complimentary bottle of wine or a cocktail party, specialty dining or other amenities.
Plus, the group leader can sail for FREE as a tour conductor credit will be issued back after the group sails. The amount of the tour conductor credit varies according to the cruise lines and the number and variety of cabins within the group. In general it is one berth (not cabin) for 16 full fare passengers traveling in the group. And, the more cabins that are sold the higher the number of tour conductor credits are earned!
Group Activities
Group activities can be varied according to the group needs. Dining can be set up together, special parties can be set up on board, meeting space complete with audio-visual equipment and group shore excursions can be offered.
Groups are easy to set up. Just contact one of our group specialists and they will provide you with the group pricing and all of the details concerning setting up your group.

How To Organize A Group Cruise

- Travel Tips
Introduction
Going on a cruise is a delightful way to explore the world, relax, and create lifelong memories. And what could be better than enjoying this experience with a group of friends or family? Organizing a group cruise can be an exciting and rewarding endeavor, but it does require careful planning and coordination.
In this article, we will guide you through the process of organizing a group cruise, from choosing the destination to managing the group dynamics on board. Whether you are planning a reunion, a celebration, or simply want to embark on a memorable adventure with your loved ones, these tips and insights will help you create an unforgettable experience.
Before diving into the details, it’s essential to emphasize the importance of early planning. Group cruises typically require advanced reservations to secure the best rates and accommodations. So, gather your group, start dreaming about the perfect cruise destination, and let’s get started on this exciting journey of organizing a group cruise!
Choosing a Destination
One of the first and most crucial steps in organizing a group cruise is selecting the destination. The destination sets the tone for the entire experience, so it’s important to choose a location that caters to the interests and preferences of your group.
Consider the interests and preferences of your group members. Are they seeking relaxation on pristine beaches, cultural immersion in historical cities, or thrilling adventures in exotic locations? Taking into account everyone’s desires will help ensure that the chosen destination appeals to the majority, enhancing the overall satisfaction of the group.
Research various cruise itineraries to find destinations that offer a variety of activities and attractions. For example, the Caribbean is known for its stunning beaches and vibrant culture, while Alaska offers breathtaking views of glaciers and wildlife encounters. Europe is a treasure trove of art, history, and culinary delights, while the South Pacific offers crystal-clear waters and tropical paradise.
Consider the travel time and accessibility as well. If your group members have limited time or are traveling from different locations, choosing a cruise that departs from a port close to everyone’s home can be more convenient. However, if there is a specific destination that everyone is excited about, it may be worth considering flights to that location.
Finally, take into account the time of year you plan to travel. Some destinations have specific seasons that offer better weather or special events. For example, the Mediterranean is best experienced during the summer months, while Alaska cruises are popular from May to September. Research the weather patterns and peak seasons of your desired destinations to ensure an optimal experience.
Once you have narrowed down your options, discuss the potential destinations with your group members. Take their feedback into consideration and strive to reach a consensus. Remember, the goal is to choose a destination that will appeal to the majority of your group and create an unforgettable experience for everyone.
Selecting the Right Cruise Line
Choosing the right cruise line is a crucial aspect of organizing a group cruise. Different cruise lines offer varying experiences, amenities, and catering to different types of passengers. Consider the following factors when selecting the right cruise line for your group:
1. Group Size and Composition: Take into account the demographics of your group. Are you traveling with children, seniors, or a mix of age groups? Some cruise lines cater more to families, while others are better suited for adults or offer specialized activities for specific age groups.
2. Itinerary and Ports of Call: Review the itineraries and destinations offered by various cruise lines. Ensure that the ports of call align with the preferences and interests of your group. Look for a variety of excursions and activities available at each destination to cater to diverse interests.
3. Onboard Amenities: Consider the onboard amenities and facilities offered by each cruise line. Are there multiple dining options, entertainment venues, pools, spa services, or fitness centers? Ensure that there are activities and amenities that cater to the interests of your group, providing ample opportunities for relaxation, entertainment, and fitness.
4. Accommodation Options: Look into the range of accommodation options available on each cruise line. Ensure that there are cabins or suites suitable for the size of your group, whether you need connecting rooms, larger family suites, or accessible cabins for individuals with disabilities.
5. Budget and Pricing: Consider the pricing and budget constraints of your group members. Some cruise lines offer more affordable options, while others may provide luxurious experiences with higher price tags. Strive to find a balance between value for money and the desired level of comfort and amenities.
6. Reputation and Reviews: Research the reputation and reviews of each cruise line. Read feedback from previous passengers to get a sense of the quality of service, cleanliness, and overall guest satisfaction. Websites and online forums dedicated to cruise enthusiasts can be valuable resources for gathering firsthand experiences and recommendations.
Once you have considered these factors, narrow down your options to a few cruise lines that best match the preferences and needs of your group. If possible, consult with a travel agent specializing in cruises who can provide expert advice and help secure the best deals and offers for your group.
By selecting the right cruise line for your group, you can ensure that everyone enjoys their time onboard, creating lasting memories together.
Setting a Budget
Setting a budget is a crucial step in organizing a group cruise. It allows you to determine the overall cost per person and ensure that the chosen cruise and its associated expenses align with the financial constraints of your group members. Here are some tips to help you set a budget for your group cruise:
1. Gather Financial Information: Begin by gathering information about the financial situations and preferences of your group members. Understand their budget limitations, including their ability to pay for the cruise, travel expenses, onboard activities, and additional costs such as excursions, dining, and drinks.
2. Consider All Expenses: Create a comprehensive list of all the potential expenses associated with the cruise. This includes the cruise fare, taxes, and fees, transportation to and from the port, travel insurance, gratuities, onboard spending, and any additional activities or amenities that may incur extra charges.
3. Research Pricing Options: Explore different cruise lines, itineraries, and cabin categories to get an idea of the overall pricing range. Consider both the low and high seasons, as cruise fares can significantly vary depending on the time of year and demand. Look for any available discounts, promotions, or group rates that can help reduce costs.
4. Negotiate with the Cruise Line: If you are organizing a large group, it may be possible to negotiate special group rates or perks with the cruise line. Contact their group sales department to inquire about any available discounts, onboard credits, or complimentary amenities that can help stretch your group’s budget further.
5. Create a Payment Plan: Once you have a clear understanding of the overall costs, create a payment plan that works for everyone in the group. Consider setting deadlines for payment installments and establish a method for collecting and tracking payments. This will ensure that everyone stays on track and avoids any last-minute financial challenges.
6. Be Transparent and Flexible: Communication is key when setting a budget. Be transparent with your group members about the overall costs and any potential additional expenses that may arise. It’s important to manage expectations and ensure that everyone understands the financial commitment involved in the group cruise. Additionally, remain open to suggestions and be willing to make adjustments to the budget if necessary.
By setting a budget, you can ensure that your group cruise stays within financial bounds and provides an enjoyable and stress-free experience for everyone involved.
Determining the Group Size
Determining the group size is an important factor to consider when organizing a group cruise. The size of your group can impact various aspects of the planning process, including cabin availability, group rates, and even the overall dynamics of the trip. Here are some considerations to help you determine the ideal group size for your cruise:
1. Consider the Purpose of the Trip: Think about the purpose of the group cruise. Are you organizing a family reunion, a celebration, a corporate event, or simply a fun getaway with friends? Understanding the purpose will guide you in determining the appropriate group size. For intimate gatherings, a smaller group may be suitable, while larger occasions may benefit from a larger gathering.
2. Accessibility of Cabins: Take into account the availability and accessibility of cabins that can accommodate your group size. Some cruise lines offer family-friendly cabins or connecting rooms, which can be ideal for larger groups. It’s important to ensure that everyone has comfortable and suitable accommodation options.
3. Interest and Compatibility: Consider the interests and compatibility of your group members. A smaller group can be more cohesive and allow for more personalized experiences, while a larger group offers a diverse range of personalities and interests. Find a balance that ensures everyone can bond and enjoy the cruise experience together.
4. Manageability: Evaluate your ability to manage a larger group. Keep in mind that organizing and coordinating activities, reservations, and logistics for a large group can be more challenging. Consider whether you have the resources, time, and assistance needed to handle a larger group effectively.
5. Budget Considerations: Take into account the financial implications of the group size. Group rates and discounts may be available for larger groups, which can help reduce the overall cost per person. However, keep in mind that larger groups may also require more resources and may have diverse financial capabilities.
6. Communication and Group Dynamics: Think about the communication dynamics within your group. Larger groups may require more structured communication plans, while smaller groups may allow for more informal and spontaneous interactions. Consider the preferences and communication styles of your group members to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Ultimately, the ideal group size for a cruise will depend on the specific circumstances and preferences of your group. Consider these factors and have a discussion with your group members to determine the most fitting group size that will facilitate a memorable and enjoyable cruise experience for all.
Establishing a Group Leader
When organizing a group cruise, it’s essential to establish a group leader who will take charge of coordinating and managing the various aspects of the trip. The group leader plays a crucial role in ensuring smooth communication, decision-making, and overall organization. Here are some important considerations for selecting and establishing a group leader:
1. Responsibilities and Roles: Clearly define the responsibilities and roles of the group leader. These may include researching and selecting the cruise itinerary, communicating with the cruise line or travel agent, coordinating group activities, collecting payments, and serving as the main point of contact for group members.
2. Organizational and Communication Skills: Look for someone within the group who possesses strong organizational and communication skills. The group leader should be able to effectively communicate with group members, manage timelines and deadlines, and maintain a clear overview of the planning process.
3. Availability and Dedication: Ensure that the chosen group leader has the time and dedication to commit to the responsibilities of the role. Planning a group cruise requires ongoing communication, research, and coordination, so it’s important to select someone who can devote the necessary time and attention to the task.
4. Good Interpersonal Skills: A group leader should have good interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a positive and cohesive environment within the group. They should be approachable, patient, and able to resolve conflicts or address concerns that may arise during the planning process or onboard the cruise.
5. Trust and Consensus: The group leader should be someone who is trusted by the group members and can make decisions that align with the majority’s preferences and interests. It’s important to establish a consensus among group members regarding the selected leader to ensure smooth cooperation and collaboration.
6. Delegate and Seek Assistance: A group leader should be comfortable delegating tasks and seeking assistance from other group members when necessary. Planning a group cruise can be a complex undertaking, so having a team of individuals who can support the leader in various aspects can greatly contribute to the overall success of the trip.
Remember, the group leader is ultimately responsible for ensuring that everyone has a memorable and enjoyable experience. A competent and committed group leader can make the planning process more efficient and help create a cohesive and well-organized group cruise that meets the expectations and desires of the entire group.
Booking the Cruise
Booking the cruise is an exciting step in the process of organizing a group cruise. It involves selecting the specific ship, cabin types, and travel dates, and securing the reservations for your group. Here are some important factors to consider when booking the cruise:
1. Research and Comparison: Conduct thorough research and compare different cruise lines, ships, and itineraries that align with the preferences and interests of your group. Look for reviews, ratings, and feedback from previous passengers to get a sense of the quality and experience offered by each cruise option.
2. Consult a Travel Agent: Consider consulting with a travel agent specializing in cruises. They have extensive knowledge of the industry, can provide expert advice, and assist in securing the best deals and offers for your group. Travel agents often have access to exclusive group rates or onboard perks that may not be available through direct bookings.
3. Group Rates and Amenities: Inquire about group rates and amenities offered by the cruise lines. Many cruise lines provide special discounts or benefits for groups, such as onboard credits, complimentary upgrades, or private group events. Take advantage of these incentives to enhance the group experience and potentially reduce costs.
4. Flexible Booking Options: Explore flexible booking options that can accommodate the needs of your group members. Some cruise lines allow for individual bookings within a group, enabling each person to customize their cabin preferences, dining options, or excursion choices. This flexibility can cater to varying budgets and preferences within the group.
5. Pay Attention to Cabin Selection: Consider the cabin types and configurations that will suit the needs and preferences of your group members. Some cruise lines offer cabins with connecting doors or larger family-sized cabins, which can enhance the group experience. Ensure that you have a sufficient number of cabins that can comfortably accommodate everyone in the group.
6. Payment and Deposit Policies: Understand the payment and deposit policies for booking a group cruise. Determine the required deposit amount per person and the deadline for making final payments. Clarify any cancellation policies or penalties to ensure that everyone in the group is aware of the financial obligations and deadlines associated with the booking.
7. Keep Communication Open: Throughout the booking process, maintain open and consistent communication with the cruise line or travel agent. Ensure that all group members have access to relevant information regarding the cruise details, payment deadlines, and any updates or changes to the itinerary. Effective communication will help avoid misunderstandings and keep everyone informed.
Once the cruise is booked, celebrate the accomplishment and continue to keep the group members engaged and excited about the upcoming adventure. Organizing a group cruise requires attention to detail, but with proper planning and organization, it will result in a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Planning Group Activities
Planning group activities is an important part of organizing a group cruise. It ensures that there are engaging and enjoyable experiences for everyone in the group, creating lasting memories and fostering a sense of camaraderie. Here are some tips to help you plan group activities for your cruise:
1. Research Onboard Activities: Familiarize yourself with the onboard activities and entertainment options offered by the cruise line. Most cruise ships have a diverse range of activities such as live shows, game nights, dance classes, sports, and even cooking demonstrations. Consider the interests and preferences of your group members when selecting activities.
2. Create a Group Itinerary: Develop a group itinerary that includes a mix of organized group activities and free time for individuals to explore on their own. This allows for a balance between planned group experiences and personal relaxation or independent exploration. Share the itinerary with the group in advance, so everyone knows what to expect.
3. Plan Group Excursions: Research and organize group excursions at the ports of call. This can include guided tours, water activities, cultural visits, or adventure outings. Group excursions allow for shared experiences and can often secure better rates or exclusive group perks. Consider the physical abilities and interests of your group members when selecting excursions.
4. Coordinate Special Group Events: Plan special group events such as welcome gatherings, themed dinners, or cocktail parties. These events provide opportunities for group members to socialize, bond, and celebrate together. Work with the cruise line to coordinate these events and ensure that they are tailored to the interests and preferences of your group.
5. Encourage Group Participation: Encourage group members to be active participants in group activities. Promote engagement and involvement by providing opportunities for group members to suggest and organize activities that align with their interests. This creates a sense of ownership and ensures that everyone’s preferences are considered.
6. Schedule Free Time: Allow for some free time in the itinerary where individuals can pursue their own interests or relax at their own pace. This gives everyone the opportunity to recharge and enjoy the cruise experience in their own way. Remember that flexibility is key, and not every moment needs to be planned.
7. Communicate and Provide Information: Keep the group informed about the planned activities and any additional details or requirements. Provide clear instructions, meeting points, and timings for each activity. Make sure everyone knows how to stay updated on any changes or updates to the itinerary.
Remember that not everyone in the group may want to participate in every activity. Respect individual choices and allow for flexibility in participation. By planning a variety of group activities, you create opportunities for shared experiences and meaningful connections while also allowing for individual enjoyment and relaxation during the cruise.
Coordinating Travel Arrangements
Coordinating travel arrangements is a critical aspect of organizing a group cruise. Ensuring that everyone arrives at the port on time and in a seamless manner can greatly enhance the overall experience. Here are some tips to help you coordinate travel arrangements for your group:
1. Provide Travel Information: Gather necessary travel information from each group member, including their departure city, preferred mode of transportation, and any additional requirements or preferences. Create a centralized document or spreadsheet to keep track of this information and share it with the group members.
2. Group Transportation: Explore the possibility of arranging group transportation from various departure cities to the cruise port. This can be in the form of a chartered bus, shared rental vehicles, or even coordinating flights to arrive around the same time. Group transportation can foster a sense of camaraderie and make the journey to the port more convenient and enjoyable.
3. Suggest Travel Dates: Consider suggesting specific travel dates or a designated range for group members to book their travel plans. This can facilitate coordination and increase the likelihood of group members traveling together. However, also be flexible to accommodate individual travel preferences and constraints.
4. Offer Travel Recommendations: Provide travel recommendations regarding the best airports to fly into, nearby accommodations for those arriving a day early, and local transportation options to reach the port. Sharing helpful information can ease the travel planning process for your group members.
5. Share Port Information: Communicate important details about the embarkation port, including location, parking options, public transportation availability, and any specific procedures or security requirements. Make sure everyone is aware of the necessary identification documents, such as passports or visas, required for boarding.
6. Establish Meeting Points: Determine specific meeting points at the airport or port for group members to gather before embarking on the cruise. This ensures that everyone can reunite in one location before the check-in process and simplifies the logistics of boarding together.
7. Communicate Travel Updates: Keep the group informed about any travel updates or changes, such as flight delays, gate changes, or unpredictable weather conditions. Provide clear channels of communication so that group members can easily reach out with any concerns or questions they may have.
8. Consider Travel Insurance: Encourage your group members to consider purchasing travel insurance to protect against any unforeseen circumstances that may impact their travel plans. Travel insurance can provide coverage for trip cancellations, delays, medical emergencies, and other travel-related issues.
Remember that travel arrangements can vary for different group members, so flexibility is essential. Provide guidance and support while respecting individual preferences and needs. By effectively coordinating travel arrangements, you can help ensure a smooth and stress-free start to your group cruise.
Communicating with Group Members
Effective communication is vital when organizing a group cruise. Keeping all group members well-informed and engaged throughout the planning process helps ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Here are some key strategies for communicating with group members:
1. Create a Centralized Communication Platform: Establish a centralized platform where you can easily share information, updates, and important documents with the entire group. This can be a dedicated email group, a private online forum, or a messaging app. Choose a platform that is accessible to all group members and encourages open communication.
2. Provide Timely and Clear Updates: Regularly share updates about the cruise itinerary, booking details, and any changes or additions to the plan. Ensure that the information provided is clear, concise, and easy to understand. Timely updates will keep everyone informed and help them make necessary preparations.
3. Respond Promptly to Questions and Concerns: Encourage group members to ask questions or voice their concerns and respond to them promptly. Addressing queries and alleviating any concerns in a timely manner will foster trust and ensure that everyone feels heard and valued within the group.
4. Schedule Group Meetings: Organize group meetings or conference calls to discuss important details, answer questions, and get feedback from the group. These meetings allow for shared decision-making and ensure that everyone is on the same page regarding the cruise plans.
5. Provide Contact Information: Share contact information with the group, including your own contact details as the organizer and any other relevant points of contact, such as the travel agent or cruise line representative. Make it clear how and when group members can reach out for assistance or further information.
6. Encourage Group Member Participation: Encourage active participation from group members by requesting their input and suggestions for group activities, dining options, and excursions. This creates a sense of ownership and investment in the planning process and enhances the overall group experience.
7. Remain Transparent and Open: Be transparent about the decision-making process, budget considerations, and any limitations or constraints that may arise. Open and honest communication ensures that everyone is aware of important details and can collectively work towards a successful group cruise.
8. Share Important Deadlines: Communicate any payment deadlines, documentation requirements, or other important deadlines well in advance. Regularly remind the group members of upcoming dates to ensure that everyone stays on track with their responsibilities and obligations.
Remember to strike a balance between providing necessary information and avoiding information overload. Tailor your communication style to suit the preferences and needs of the group members, ensuring that it is clear, concise, and respectful. By establishing effective communication channels, you can foster a sense of cohesion and excitement within the group as you all embark on a memorable cruise together.
Managing Payments and Finances
Properly managing payments and finances is a crucial aspect of organizing a group cruise. It ensures that all financial obligations are met, tracks group member contributions, and keeps the planning process smooth and transparent. Here are some key strategies for managing payments and finances effectively:
1. Establish a Clear Payment Plan: Create a clear and detailed payment plan that includes due dates, payment methods, and the amount each group member is responsible for. Clearly communicate the payment plan to all group members and provide reminders as the payment deadlines approach.
2. Utilize a Group Fund Account: Consider setting up a dedicated group fund account to collect and manage all the payments. This can be a separate bank account or a digital payment platform that allows group members to transfer their contributions easily and securely.
3. Track Payments and Contributions: Keep a detailed record of all payments and contributions received from each group member. Maintain a spreadsheet or document that clearly shows who has paid and how much. This will help you easily track the progress of payments and address any discrepancies or missing payments.
4. Communicate Payment Deadlines: Regularly remind group members of upcoming payment deadlines. Send friendly reminders well in advance to ensure that everyone has enough time to fulfill their financial obligations. Consider setting up automated payment reminders to simplify the process.
5. Be Transparent with Finances: Practice transparency by sharing regular updates and summaries of the group’s financial status. This includes the total amount collected, any outstanding payments, and any additional expenses or fees that may arise along the way. Transparency builds trust within the group and allows for open communication regarding financial matters.
6. Consider Group Discounts: Explore the possibility of obtaining group discounts and benefits from the cruise line or other vendors. Group discounts can help reduce the overall cost per person, making it more manageable for group members. Ensure that any discounts or benefits are communicated and reflected in the payment plan.
7. Manage Refunds and Cancellations: Establish clear policies regarding refunds and cancellations. Communicate these policies to the group members at the beginning of the planning process to avoid misunderstandings later on. Be prepared for potential cancellations and adjustments to the payment plan, and handle them promptly and fairly.
8. Monitor Exchange Rates and Additional Fees: If the cruise involves international travel, keep an eye on exchange rates and any additional fees that may be incurred due to currency conversion. Inform the group about these potential costs to avoid any surprises and plan accordingly.
Remember to keep detailed records of all financial transactions and ensure that all group members are informed of the payment process and any changes that may occur. Open and clear communication about finances will create a sense of trust and accountability within the group, making the group cruise planning process smoother and more enjoyable for everyone involved.
Packing and Preparing for the Cruise
Packing and preparing for a cruise is an important part of ensuring a smooth and enjoyable experience for all group members. Here are some tips to help you and your group prepare for the upcoming cruise:
1. Create a Packing Checklist: Start by creating a comprehensive packing checklist for all group members. Include essential items such as clothing, toiletries, medication, travel documents, electronics, and any specific items required for the cruise activities or excursions. Sharing the checklist with the group helps everyone pack efficiently.
2. Check the Cruise Line’s Dress Code: Familiarize yourself and the group members with the dress code requirements of the cruise line. Some may have formal nights or themed parties that require specific attire. Make sure everyone is aware of these guidelines to pack accordingly and avoid any wardrobe surprises.
3. Coordinate Group Outfits: Consider coordinating group outfits for certain events or activities. This can create a sense of unity and make for great group photos. Discuss the idea with the group and decide on a theme or color scheme that everyone is comfortable with.
4. Pack Essentials in a Carry-On Bag: Advise group members to pack essential items, such as medications, travel documents, a change of clothes, and toiletries, in a carry-on bag. This ensures that they have immediate access to important items even if their checked luggage is delayed or misplaced.
5. Prepare for Different Weather Conditions: Research the weather conditions at the cruise destinations and pack accordingly. Consider a range of clothing options to accommodate different weather scenarios, including swimwear, jackets, hats, and sunscreen. Share weather updates with the group prior to departure.
6. Inform Group Members about Cruise Regulations: Familiarize the group with any specific cruise line regulations, such as prohibited items or restrictions on alcohol or food brought onboard. This helps everyone avoid any inconveniences or misunderstandings at the embarkation process.
7. Suggest Optional Items: Provide group members with suggestions for optional items to enhance their cruise experience, such as power adapters, water bottles, snorkeling gear, or waterproof phone pouches. Sharing these recommendations ensures that everyone is prepared for the activities they wish to partake in.
8. Share Tips for Onboard Activities: Offer tips and advice to group members regarding onboard activities and amenities. Inform them about any reservation requirements for restaurants or shows, spa services, or special events that may require advance booking. This helps group members plan and make the most of their cruise experience.
Encourage open communication among group members in case anyone has questions or needs assistance with packing or preparing for the trip. By adequately preparing and packing for the cruise, your group will be well-equipped to enjoy all the amenities and activities that await them onboard.
During the Cruise: Group Dining and Entertainment
Once you embark on the cruise, it’s time to enjoy the fantastic dining options and entertainment offerings as a group. Here are some tips for making the most of group dining and entertainment during your cruise:
1. Plan Group Meals: Coordinate group meals by making reservations at specialty restaurants or arranging for group dining in the main dining room. This allows everyone to dine together and enjoy shared experiences and conversations. Discuss the preferred dining options with your group members and make reservations well in advance if needed.
2. Try Different Dining Venues: Encourage group members to explore different dining venues onboard the ship. Many cruise lines offer a variety of restaurants, including casual buffets, specialty eateries, and formal dining rooms. Trying out different venues enables everyone to experience the diverse culinary offerings available.
3. Attend Shows and Entertainment Together: Take advantage of the onboard entertainment options and attend shows, musical performances, or comedy acts as a group. Arrive early to secure seats together and enjoy the performances side by side. Consult the ship’s daily itinerary to plan for the shows and entertainment that align with your group’s interests.
4. Organize Group Activities: Plan group activities and games that can be enjoyed onboard. This could include trivia contests, karaoke nights, or group excursions to the ship’s various amenities. Consider the interests and preferences of your group members when organizing these activities to ensure maximum participation and enjoyment.
5. Enjoy Onboard Recreational Facilities: Take advantage of onboard recreational facilities, such as swimming pools, sports courts, and fitness centers, as a group. Organize friendly competitions, or simply spend leisure time together relaxing and enjoying the facilities. It’s a great opportunity to bond and create shared memories.
6. Explore Shore Excursions as a Group: Participate in group shore excursions to explore the various ports of call. Engage in activities such as sightseeing tours, water sports, or cultural experiences. Booking group excursions not only provides a shared experience but may also secure better rates or customized experiences for your group.
7. Respect Individual Interests and Preferences: While group activities are important, also respect individual interests and preferences. Allow group members the freedom to engage in activities of their choice or spend time alone if desired. Balance group activities with opportunities for personal exploration and relaxation.
8. Communicate and Adjust Plans: Maintain open lines of communication with your group members throughout the cruise. Stay informed about any changes in the ship’s schedule or updates to entertainment options. Be flexible and willing to adjust plans as necessary to accommodate the group’s preferences or unforeseen circumstances.
Remember, the goal is to strike a balance between enjoying group experiences and respecting individual preferences during the cruise. By planning group meals and activities, exploring entertainment options together, and allowing for personal time, you can create a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone in your group.
Resolving Group Conflicts
Even the most harmonious groups may encounter conflicts during a group cruise. It’s essential to address and resolve these conflicts promptly to maintain a positive and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Here are some strategies for effectively resolving group conflicts during the cruise:
1. Promote Open Communication: Encourage open and respectful communication among group members to express concerns or address conflicts. Create a safe space where everyone feels comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings. Active listening and empathy are crucial in understanding each other’s perspectives.
2. Address Issues Early: Deal with conflicts as soon as they arise rather than allowing them to fester and escalate. Encourage group members to bring up any issues or concerns they may have so that they can be addressed promptly. Nipping conflicts in the bud helps prevent them from spiraling into larger problems.
3. Mediation and Facilitation: When conflicts arise, act as a mediator or designate someone within the group to facilitate a resolution. This person can help guide the conversation, ensure that everyone is heard, and facilitate a collaborative and constructive discussion to find common ground.
4. Find Compromise: Look for compromises and win-win solutions that address the concerns of all parties involved. Encourage group members to work together to find mutually agreeable resolutions. Finding middle ground and understanding each other’s perspectives can often lead to satisfactory outcomes.
5. Respect Individual Differences: Recognize and respect individual differences and preferences within the group. Not everyone will have the same interests or desires, and it’s important to find a balance that accommodates everyone’s needs to the best of your abilities. Foster an environment of understanding and tolerance.
6. Focus on the Larger Picture: Remind group members of the larger goal of creating a positive and memorable group experience. Encourage them to prioritize the overall enjoyment of the cruise over individual grievances. Remind everyone that compromises and working through conflicts can lead to stronger bonds and a more fulfilling experience.
7. Seek Professional Assistance, if Necessary: In more complex or persistent conflicts, consider seeking professional assistance. The cruise ship may have a guest relations team or a dedicated mediator who can help facilitate resolution. Don’t hesitate to take advantage of these resources if needed.
8. Learn from Conflict Experiences: Emphasize the opportunity for personal growth and learning from conflict experiences. Encourage group members to reflect on the conflicts and their resolutions, fostering individual and collective growth in communication and problem-solving skills.
By addressing conflicts promptly, promoting open and respectful communication, and seeking collaborative solutions, you can ensure that conflicts are resolved effectively, maintaining a harmonious and enjoyable atmosphere throughout the group cruise.

Is it possible to meet your forever match on a cruise ship? Absolutely.
An editor I once knew found her true love on an expedition-style cruise. They married within months of returning home and now have two children. Whether it was the thrill of the expedition, the forced digital detox of a remote destination or the close quarters of a small ship, their relationship clearly blossomed on board.
Cruise ships offer a unique way to meet new and often fascinating people, whether you're looking for romance or simply want to enjoy the company of other people vacationing the same way you do.

There are single cruisers on almost every ship. Some sail solo; others are in friend or family groups. Dining arrangements, onboard activities and port tours make meeting like-minded people easy. Also, it's socially acceptable to strike up conversations with others throughout the ship.
Some cruise lines make it even easier for singles to find each other with solo cabins clustered together and scheduled events for singles.

If water sports are your thing, book a tropical cruise with a schedule of shore excursions that involve snorkeling, surfing, scuba diving and similar activities. Choose tours focused on wildlife watching, historical sites or food and beverage to meet shipmates who enjoy the same.
You'll often find other singles within shore excursion tour groups . However, you can increase your odds by joining social media groups specific to your cruise dates where you can connect pre-cruise with anyone cruising single.
In fact, there are dozens of social media groups dedicated to singles who love to cruise. Some groups focus on specific cruise lines, while others are broader in scope. Either way, they provide an easy opportunity to start a conversation with other singles before you ever set foot on the ship.
Your vessel's daily activity schedule is also a good place to find other singles. Check on the cruise line's app , on the interactive TV in your cabin or in the printed version (if there is one) for planned gatherings of singles, which are often pre-dinner meetups at bars.
A theme cruise is another way to meet people with similar interests. Sailings focus on country music, popular TV shows, wine tasting, crafting and other hobbies and interests. Not only will you likely find plenty of singles ready to mingle, but it might also be easier to strike up a conversation, knowing you have at least one thing in common.
Chartered singles cruises take the work out of finding other singles because you'll travel together in a group, often with a host to organize everyone. On larger ships, the charter will connect you with other group members through planned onboard meals, gatherings and activities. On smaller vessels, the tour company might charter the entire ship, so every passenger is single.
One word of caution here: It's easy to think that meeting someone on a cruise ship takes all the inherent danger out of hanging out with strangers. You're in a confined space surrounded by lots of other people. Sounds safe, right?
While cruising is, overall, incredibly safe, crime on board can happen. Like any form of travel, it's best not to let your guard down, especially if you go off alone with someone you've just met.
Perhaps the most important thing to keep in mind when seeking other singles on cruise ships is to start with an appropriate cruise line for your age and lifestyle . Here are some great singles cruises for various age groups to help you get started.
Best cruises for singles over 20
For young singles, cruising can sometimes feel like an expensive way to meet people. To avoid the high cost of single supplements charged to solo travelers in standard cabins meant for at least two people, single cruisers can travel with friends and share a room. (Many cabins can sleep up to four.) Also, you might feel more confident heading to the ship's bars or nightclubs in a group.
Try short three- to five-night cruises on low-cost mainstream lines like Carnival , Norwegian Cruise Line or Royal Caribbean , where you'll find more young adults and more of a party scene . Singles on a budget can also save money cruising on older, smaller ships across the mainstream fleets, which typically have lower cruise fares.
Margaritaville at Sea is another good choice for quick and affordable two-night trips to the Bahamas, though you'll need to find love quickly on such a short cruise.
Twentysomethings who have a larger travel budget and wish to cruise on their own can look for cruise lines with solo cabins. These rooms for one are in limited supply, so they can be priced at a premium and sell out quickly.

Our top pick for this age group would be a short Carnival cruise from almost any U.S. departure port.
The price is right, there's plenty of onboard fun designed for this age group (great live bands, nightly karaoke, poolside games, trivia and deck parties). It's also a good way to get your feet wet when it comes to cruising as a young single. Carnival ships have many cabins that can sleep several of your besties if you choose not to go alone.
Best cruises for singles over 30
Cruising singles in their 30s have slightly different vacation needs from their younger peers. Norwegian Cruise Line, Royal Caribbean and Carnival are all still great choices for this age group, whether you're traveling on your own or with a group of friends.
Another cruise line that works well for young singles is Virgin Voyages , which is child-free and has rooms and activities designed for singles. Its cheeky, nontraditional vibe is a plus for thirtysomethings.
Use the tattoo you got at the onboard tattoo studio as a conversation starter, make friends at an '80s-themed workout class, or chat up your neighbor at an after-hours cabaret or at a communal table in one of the line's many complimentary restaurants.

Single parents who vacation with their youngsters might want to add Disney Cruise Line to the list. The kids can enjoy amazing supervised programming in the expansive kids club while mom or dad enjoys adult pleasures like wine tastings, fine dining and dancing — all of which could lead to meetups with other single parents on board.
A warm-climate Royal Caribbean cruise with your best buds can be an ideal option for the over-30 set. We recommend one of the line's newest and biggest ships so you have plenty of options for food, entertainment and hangouts to try. From slides and water attractions that get your heart racing to dance clubs open until the wee hours of the night, these ships have plenty to offer young singles and plenty of places to meet new friends.
Best cruises for singles over 40
Singles in their 40s generally are ready for a little less party and a little more romance on a singles cruise. This age group won't be out of place among festive singles on board Virgin Voyages or Carnival, but Celebrity Cruises is another cruise line to consider.
The line's newer Edge Class ships have a younger, hipper ambience than their older ships. Think martini bars, foodie havens and jazz clubs, all with decor that looks nothing like your parents' cruise ships.

For those who like to gamble, try the mainstream cruise lines. The large casinos offer yet another opportunity to meet other singles on board — particularly at the table games. Margaritaville at Sea is another line to consider with plenty of gambling singles on board.
For fortysomething singles looking for onboard romance, we suggest a studio cabin for seven nights on NCL's new Norwegian Viva bound for the Caribbean . There's plenty to do on board and in port to help you meet people.
Additionally, the solo cabins, which have been redone in a more elegant style than on some of the line's older ships, provide access to the Studio Lounge for socializing. The lounge has also been revamped, giving it an upscale feel with free daily snacks and drinks. (Note that Norwegian's cabins for one sell out quickly, so you'll want to book early.)
Another great pick would be Virgin Voyages' four-night Fire and Sunset Soiree sailings from Miami on Scarlet Lady . They include stops at Key West and a private beach club on Bimini , plus a sea day to get to know your fellow passengers. The cost for a single "sailor," as Virgin calls them, starts at around $700.
Best cruises for singles over 50
For senior singles cruises, all the previous options are still reasonable choices. However, some lines cater a bit more to this age group. The caveat is that cruise lines that cater to mature travelers are often targeted at couples, with solo travelers skewing older.
Oceania , Azamara and Holland America are tops on this list, especially on their shorter cruises that attract still-working professionals. The ships are large enough to have a mix of singles among the usual crowd of couples but small enough to provide a strong chance of actually meeting those other singles on board.
These lines offer port-intensive itineraries, so book ship tours to connect with like-minded folks on board since you likely won't spend as much time lounging around the pool.
For singles over 50, a Celebrity Cruises itinerary in the Mediterranean will likely include many other singles with whom you can mingle. Mediterranean cruises are popular with active mid-lifers looking to see more of the world. What could be more romantic than cruising the Greek Isles or the Italian coastline?
Best cruises for singles over 60
Single retirees with the freedom to enjoy longer and often more expensive cruises have loads of options for meeting people. The list starts with premium lines like Holland America, Oceania and Cunard , but also Viking and Princess Cruises .
Single travelers in their 60s and older with a large travel budget should consider luxury cruise lines like Seabourn Cruise Line , Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Silversea Cruises . All of these cater to singles with reduced supplement charges and singles meet-and-greets.
Visit the maitre d' on the first day of your cruise to ensure you are seated at the same table or group of tables with other singles for dinner in the main dining room. Dance classes, trivia games and port tours also put you in the right place at the right time to strike up conversations with others looking to make new connections. Social hostesses on luxury lines can introduce you to other solo travelers, too.
Related: Why it's easier to meet new people on a smaller cruise ship
River cruises in Europe are another possibility for singles in this age group. River cruises are inherently social, in part because of the small size of the ships, but also because daily tours put people with shared interests in proximity during walking and bus excursions. There are also choices of specialty theme cruises for LGBTQ+ cruisers , wine lovers, golfers and ancestry seekers, all of which make it easier for singles to meet people on board.
Lines to consider include AmaWaterways , Viking River Cruises, Avalon River Cruises, Emerald Cruises and Uniworld River Cruises. River cruises also sometimes offer reduced single supplements, making them more affordable for those traveling alone.
A top pick for this age group would be an Alaska sailing on Silversea Cruises. This luxury line includes everything in one fare — even many fabulous Alaska excursions you would pay hundreds of dollars for on any other line. The ships are small enough that you can easily meet your fellow travelers, and the excursions make it easy to share experiences with other singles on board.
Bottom line
The romance of a cruise is undeniable. From dressy dinners to the moon's glow on the ocean waves, cruising can feel like a setting straight from a Hollywood film. Though not as simple as swiping right, cruising to meet other singles has appeal.
Choosing the right cruise line and activities can help you narrow your potential candidates. Looking for an outdoor adventurer? Choose active tours in port. Want to share your love of music, wine or Blackjack with someone? Pick a theme cruise focused on your passion.
If you just want to dance the night away with singles in your own age group, there's a ship for you — whether your jam is rock 'n' roll, hip hop or a classic waltz.
Also, you lose nothing by trying. Even if you don't meet the partner of your dreams, you'll enjoy a fantastic cruise vacation.

Embark on an all-gay or LGBTQ-friendly cruise for excellent entertainment, food and excursions.
Whether you are looking to hop aboard a Pride Week cruise with a major line or sail away with a smaller company that specializes in LGBTQ voyages, the following cruise operators promise a fun, safe and memorable vacation.
(Note: While many of these cruise lines sail to LGBTQ-friendly ports of call, travelers should research destinations to learn more about cultures, customs and safety in each location and determine what's right for them.)

Founded by avid travelers Randle Roper, Patrick Gunn and John Finen, VACAYA bills itself as the first all-LGBT travel company in the full-ship charter/resort buyout sector of the travel industry to launch in more than 25 years.
"[VACAYA] was sparked by our own vacations, where we all had encountered two very different experiences," says Gunn. "The all-gay cruises were liberating, empowering and fun, but limited to a small spectrum of people. And while everyone loves a good time, there's more to a memorable vacation than just parties. Mainstream vacations offered more activities and destinations, and were accessible to a diverse set of people, but didn't always feel like a friendly, judgment-free environment."
As such, VACAYA set out to bring LGBTQ travelers from across the spectrum together in a welcoming, inclusive setting, while offering varied onboard activities and immersive itinerary options. Cruisers will enjoy traveling to ports around the world, in the Caribbean , the Galápagos, Europe , Antarctica and more. You can participate in shipwide events ranging from themed deck parties to performances by LGBTQ entertainers to rejuvenating yoga classes. Note that VACAYA's cruises are for adults only.
Previous cruisers had abundant praise for VACAYA's voyages, highlighting the company's responsiveness when booking and the kindhearted staff, as well as the genuine connections they made with other passengers on board. Many were also impressed by the events and entertainment options throughout their sailings.
In 2024, VACAYA will offer a number of voyages worldwide. The seven-night Caribbean Cruise on Celebrity Apex in February will sail round-trip from Fort Lauderdale, with several fun-filled days at sea in addition to stops in Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Antigua. In August, VACAYA has a 12-night river cruise in Northern Europe on board Advance by Transcend Cruises; this sailing includes the Amsterdam Pride event. The 11-night Antarctica expedition on Atlas Ocean Voyages' World Navigator in December 2024 is sold out, but you can join the waitlist.

The Virgin brand has long been known for its celebration of the LGBTQ community, and cruise line Virgin Voyages is no different. The strictly adults-only cruise operator aims to provide a unique experience, with onboard tattoo parlors, impressive live entertainment, and dining options that include more than 20 eateries and menus created by Michelin star chefs. This line gets the stamp of approval from previous LGBTQ cruisers, who praise the ships' gender-neutral bathrooms, diverse staff and onboard shows with resident drag queens.
Virgin Voyages offers gay-specific sailings through travel companies like Atlantis Events, but its more mainstream itineraries still offer a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that attracts LGBTQ cruisers year-round. Virgin hosts a number of events during Pride Month each year, including deck parties and interactive social media campaigns.
"Each June here at Virgin Voyages, we like to go big for Pride Month with larger-than-life events … all monthlong," the cruise line says in a statement on its website. "It's an important time for us – both internally within our crew and for our sailors – to honor and celebrate the LGBTQ community; who for so long has had to continually fight for equality and the right to be seen, heard and included."
Virgin Voyages sails to a variety of LGBTQ-friendly countries, including New Zealand, Greece and Spain. In June 2024, consider a seven-night sailing aboard Scarlet Lady departing from Barcelona with stops in Marseille and Cannes in France as well as Spain's Palma de Mallorca and Ibiza.

The world's largest gay and lesbian travel brand, Atlantis Events was founded in 1991 and welcomes more than 20,000 travelers annually on LGBTQ vacations. For its all-gay cruises, Atlantis charters megaships from popular lines like Royal Caribbean International , Norwegian Cruise Line and Virgin Voyages in addition to smaller vessels with companies like Oceania Cruises so cruisers will have a fully immersive experience.
On board, travelers can enjoy all the perks these ships have to offer (think: pools, hot tubs, sports courts and plenty of dining choices), plus special events like drag performances, motivational speakers, LGBTQ movies on demand in each cabin and high-energy circuit parties across the ship.
"As an LGBTQ cruiser, you're looking for a ship with lots of entertainment, including dance parties and events," says Marcos Martinez, founder of Men Who Brunch, a Black gay lifestyle blog. "One of the best cruise [lines] for gay cruising is Atlantis, since you'll be able to meet hundreds of attractive men and party all day and night on the ship."
Atlantis hosts primarily gay men; women make up about 5% to 10% of bookings, according to the Atlantis website. Previous cruisers said the atmosphere on board was fun, friendly and welcoming, though some noted that the company's customer service could be better, especially when it comes to details about the cruise.
Due to the company's popularity, its three 2024 cruises are already sold out.

Courtesy of Brand G Vacations
Specializing in all-gay river cruises – and now luxury ocean liners – Brand g Vacations was founded in 2011 and explores destinations all over the world. Chartered river cruises typically welcome between 40 and 200 LGBTQ passengers (and their straight allies), which allows cruisers to get to know one another in a smaller setting. Guests tend to skew more mature (think: 40 and older), and the line attracts both men and women.
Onboard entertainment differs slightly from larger ocean voyages: Expect more cabaret-style entertainment than massive all-night dance parties. Cruisers will also enjoy performances by drag queens, gay Broadway stars and more, on top of typical river cruise perks like sightseeing and lavish meals. Past guests recommend choosing Brand g if you're looking for a well-planned, relaxed and luxurious experience over a busier, more party-heavy vacation.
Brand g aims to provide a nearly all-inclusive cruise experience , with Mercedes or small van airport transfers, upscale hotel stays prior to embarkation, and unlimited alcoholic beverages as well as meals included in the fare. As such, prices tend to be on the high end. Plus, cruisers can feel good about their trip knowing that Brand g donates to causes in the U.S. and around the world that assist LGBTQ refugees, AIDS organizations, LGBTQ centers and more.
In 2024, Brand g sails through unique waterways around the world, including the Amazon, the Loire, the Danube, the Mekong, and the Columbia and Snake rivers in the Pacific Northwest. The line's small cruise ship charters also take guests to Iceland, Spain, Morocco, Italy, Croatia and other European destinations.

Celebrity Cruises sets the scene for an excellent vacation for gay travelers, from its extravagant annual Pride parties to its daily LGBTQ programming throughout the year. The mainstream line has received numerous awards for its inclusivity, receiving accolades from the Cruizie Awards, TTG Travel Awards and Travel Weekly's Magellan Awards for being one of the best cruise lines for LGBTQ passengers.
LGBTQ cruisers can start their vacations off on a high note with a special welcome party on the first night of their voyage to meet other travelers on board. After night one, there are other social events for gay cruisers to party and hang out together. Additionally, Celebrity Cruises was the first cruise line to legally marry a couple at sea in 2018, and it continues to perform same-sex marriages on its ships.
Past cruisers enjoyed their voyages with Celebrity, noting that the line was welcoming, the food was delicious, and there were plenty of areas to hang out as a group with fellow LGBTQ passengers or other companions throughout the ship.
Although all itineraries are gay-friendly, consider booking a sailing during Pride Month in June for an extra special experience. Onboard entertainment during this month includes guest entertainers, a flag raising ceremony, Celebrity's signature Pride Party at Sea and more. The Italian Riviera & France cruise will depart from Barcelona on June 8, 2024, on the new Celebrity Ascent; this 10-night Mediterranean sailing stops at ports in France, Italy and Malta. Private travel companies like VACAYA also charter Celebrity ships for all-gay voyages throughout the year.

Specifically marketed toward lesbians and LGBTQ women, Olivia has hosted more than 350,000 travelers by land and sea over five decades. Cruisers can choose between river voyages or ocean sailings to destinations around the world. On the lesbian cruises, expect a mix of nostalgic decade-themed dance parties, folk singers, writing workshops, karaoke and other activities. Cruisers can also relax poolside, spend some time in the onboard spa or take it easy in one of the ships' lounges.
Travelers who are looking to connect with others who share similar backgrounds can do so in one of Olivia's specialized programs. There are group and solo traveler meetups, as well as programs like Sisters, which is for LGBTQ women of color; Gen-O, for cruisers 40 and younger; Women in Uniform gatherings, for veterans and those currently in the armed forces; and events for OWLs (which stands for "older, wiser lesbians"). Past cruisers on Olivia's voyages report feeling a true sense of community and belonging on board, resulting in a fun, carefree trip.
In June 2024, set sail with Olivia from Edinburgh, Scotland, to Dublin on Windstar Cruises' Star Legend. Or, visit the islands of Tahiti on the line's Star Breeze in September. Other cruise itineraries include Alaska, the Greek Isles, Mexico and the Panama Canal.

Courtesy of Royal Caribbean International
Royal Caribbean International provides a welcoming and inclusive experience for LGBTQ travelers. The popular cruise line frequently partners with Atlantis Events to offer all-gay voyages throughout the year, but even the standard sailings earn praise.
Highlights of the sailings are the ships' entertainment options (including the Tony Award-winning musical "Mamma Mia!") and attentive staff, according to past cruisers. Itineraries typically include LGBTQ meetups at the beginning of each cruise for gay travelers to meet like-minded passengers. Outside of the sailing experience, Royal Caribbean has also publicly committed to supporting the LGBTQ community throughout the year, and it was the first cruise line to earn the title "Gay Traveler Approved" from GayTravel in 2016.
In 2024, consider a Royal Caribbean voyage that sails to gay-friendly destinations. "Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, [is] full of gay bars, clubs and gay beaches," says Martinez. Hop aboard Navigator of the Seas in May for a seven-night sailing round-trip from Los Angeles that stops in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Ensenada, Mexico. Navigator of the Seas also hosts a seven-night itinerary throughout the year that calls on Mazatlan, Mexico, as well.

Courtesy of The Cruise With La Demence
According to past cruisers, if you're looking for one of the best party scenes on the open seas, consider an all-gay cruise with La Demence. Powered by a popular gay nightclub in Brussels with the same name, La Demence – French for "the madness" – primarily caters to a European crowd. Most passengers are male, though women are also welcome.
On board, passengers should expect to dance the night away at massive deck parties that last into the wee hours of the morning. The line prides itself on its top-notch DJs, impressive light setup and electric party atmosphere. Previous cruisers had high praise for the itineraries – which exclusively visit gay-friendly locations – as well as the fruity cocktails, themed nights (costumes strongly encouraged) and glamorous entertainment. Enjoy unique events like drag bingo, high heel runs and more.
La Demence sails every summer to European destinations like Greece, Italy and Malta. The 2023 cruise was chartered on Royal Caribbean's Explorer of the Seas. Fares include all food and nonalcoholic beverages, plus access to all parties, shows and the onboard gym.

The Miami-based company, with the vision of founder and chief executive officer Craig Smith, offers small group land tours and full-charter cruises for like-minded travelers with a focus on giving back to the communities they visit. The company also supports LGBTQ organizations, such as the National Gay & Lesbian Task Force and the Human Rights Campaign.

The company's cruises in 2024 include a seven-night Galápagos sailing in late September on a Relais & Chateau luxury yacht: Ecoventura's new ship, Evolve. The intimate ship accommodates just 20 passengers. Source Journeys is also offering a seven-night river cruise through Burgundy and Provence, France, in June on Avalon Waterways' Avalon Poetry II, as well as a seven-night voyage from Venice along the Dalmatian Coast. This ocean cruise scheduled in August is chartered on Star Clippers' masted sailing ship, Royal Clipper.
Frequently Asked Questions
When it comes to gay cruising, gone are the days of discreet "Friends of Dorothy" meetups. The term – a euphemism that dates back to the 1950s – was once used to indicate gay social events on daily cruise line programs, without explicitly calling out members of the community on board. It's a far cry from today's LGBTQ cruising industry, which loudly and proudly celebrates passengers from all walks of life.
According to experts, LGBTQ cruising is a market that will only continue to grow. Travelers can take their pick between cruise operators tailored specifically to queer communities and major cruise lines that offer festive Pride celebrations and inclusive onboard entertainment. As travel on the high seas continues to grow in popularity for vacationers, gay and lesbian travelers should consider setting sail on a fun-filled cruise vacation for their next trip.
When planning a cruise, vacationers should first consider what their ideal sailing looks like.
Gay-friendly vs. all-gay sailings: Cruisers should think about whether they'd like to travel aboard a gay-friendly mainstream line – such as Celebrity Cruises or Virgin Voyages – or opt for an all-gay, full-ship charter with a third-party vacation company.
"Each and every LGBTQIAPK person has a different level of comfortability in their 'outness,' " says Patrick Gunn, co-founder and chief marketing officer of LGBTQ vacation company VACAYA. Of VACAYA's all-gay charters, he adds, "For one magical week, our community gets to be the majority and live life out loud in the blissful utopia VACAYA creates on a gay cruise. That single change from being an always-minority to a sudden majority can have a profoundly positive real-world effect on individuals."
- Travel style: Some cruise operators (think: Atlantis Events and La Demence) are known for their electrifying all-night parties, which may be perfect for gay groups of friends. Meanwhile, other companies like VACAYA and Olivia look to provide a more diverse selection of activities, ranging from tea dances (LGBTQ parties that, historically, included tea service) to philanthropic service activities to immersive onshore experiences.
- Ports of call: Some of the most LGBTQ- and gay-friendly destinations for cruises include: Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Sydney; Barcelona, Spain; Taipei (Keelung), Taiwan; Helsinki; Quebec City; Auckland, New Zealand; Mykonos, Greece; Reykjavik, Iceland; Amsterdam; Tel Aviv, Israel; Buenos Aires, Argentina; and San Francisco. Countries that gay travelers may want to avoid include the Maldives, Jamaica, Morocco, Malaysia and Haiti, as homosexuality is illegal in these destinations.

Haugesund is one of Norway's most popular cruise destinations.
Located on the southwest coast of Norway, Haugesund is a historic town recognized as one of the country’s premier cruise ports. As a cruise port, it appeals as a gateway to exploring Norway's coastal landscapes and rich Viking heritage.
In 2023, the city welcomed 125 cruise ship visits, accommodating more than 370,000 passengers, thanks to its ability to handle some of the world’s largest vessels.
Among these, Iona , one of Britain’s largest ships with a capacity of 5,206 passengers, makes regular stops here as part of its P&O Cruises Norwegian fjords tour. European focused lines AIDA and Costa Cruises make occasional calls at Haugesund, as do Cunard and Fred Olsen Cruise Lines.
Visitors can explore ancient monuments like the Haraldshaugen, stroll along the bustling waterfront, or venture into the surrounding countryside to discover serene trails and traditional farms.
Despite the rising number of visitors, there's no shortage of unique activities to explore on your own, away from the typical cruise line excursions.

Earlier we reported that a top Ukrainian general said troops had fallen back from three villages in the east of the country.
We can now bring you more from Oleksandr Syrskyi, the chief of Ukraine's armed forces, about the situation on the ground.
Mr Syrskyi said the Donetsk region (in the east) remains one of the hottest sectors of the frontline as Russia continues its offensive.
He described the situation in the eastern cities of Pokrovsk and Kurakhove as "the most difficult one" now.
Russia is reportedly using up to four brigades (anywhere from an estimated 8,000 to 32,000 personnel) to conduct assault operations in the direction of both the cities, which lie west of Avdiivka, which was captured earlier this year.
Mr Syrskyi said the situation is changing "dynamically" on the frontline as a result.
Meanwhile, Mr Syrskyi said the situation in the south also remains "intense" as Russia tries to advance near the village of Krynky in Kherson.
It also wants to advance towards the villages of Robotyne and Verbove villages in Zaporizhzhia.
Since 2023, there's been a record 30% increase in Russian men aged 31-59 with disabilities, the UK's Ministry of Defence says.
In data provided by the MoD, there were 2.17 million Russian men aged 31-59 with disabilities, up from 1.67 million the year before.
It said the increase may be down to a growth in military casualties.
Two people have been injured after Russian strikes in the cities of Kupiansk and Vovchansk, local authorities have said.
A 52-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment after being injured, the military administration in Kharkiv said.
Meanwhile, a 36-year-old woman was trapped under rubble and was given medical care after being rescued.
Both cities are in the region of Kharkiv with Vovchansk close to the Russian border and frontline, while Kupiansk is crucial for logistics.
Fighting in eastern Ukraine has worsened, with troops falling back to new positions in at least three places along the frontlines, Ukraine's top general has said.
Oleksandr Syrskyi said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app that his troops had taken up new positions west of the villages of Berdychi, Semenivka and Novomykhailivka in order to conserve their forces.
All three villages are in the Donetsk region of Ukraine.
Mr Syrskyi said Russian troops "achieved certain tactical successes in these areas, but could not gain operational advantages".
Earlier, we reported that the Russian defence ministry claimed that they had taken the village of Novobakhmutivka which is in the same region.
Ukraine has not commented on the claim.
Led by a 68-year-old commander known as Grandpa, Ukraine's Steppe Wolves unit, is made up of volunteers who are considered too old to fight - but still want to.
Staying behind the frontline, the mobile artillery unit use truck-mounted rocket launchers, take orders from field commanders and work with other troops, contributing to the war effort despite lacking official support from the military.
"We... get by thanks to the pension fund," commander Oleksandr Taran said.
The unit also depends on donations, in order to repair faulty rounds and capture weapons from the enemy.
Mr Taran said his unit has been attempting to officially join Ukraine's armed forces to directly receive ammunition - and salaries - but has so far been unsuccessful.
Younger men who have been ruled unfit to fight have also joined Mr Taran's unit.
Estimates by the UK's minister for the armed forces say 450,000 Russian military personnel have been killed or wounded in Ukraine.
Leo Docherty told the UK Defence Journal that in addition to those killed, tens of thousands of people have deserted the Russian military since the start of the war in February 2022.
He said he did not know the number of personnel that were killed serving in Russian private military companies like the Wagner Group.
Turning his attention to estimates on weapons, Mr Docherty said over 10,000 Russian armoured vehicles, including nearly 3,000 main battle tanks, 109 fixed wing aircraft, 136 helicopters, 346 unmanned aerial vehicles, 23 naval vessels of all classes, and over 1,500 artillery systems have been destroyed, abandoned or captured by Ukraine in over two years.
The bodies of two people have been discovered in the Tisa River near Ukraine's border with Romania, Ukraine's state border guard reported.
"Despite the lowering of the water level in the Tisa, it is extremely dangerous to swim across it, especially at night," a statement by the border guard said.
"Sharp stones, roots, tree debris, and the swift and cold stream can pose danger to life and health."
The identities of the individuals are yet to be released.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, a total of 24 people have died trying to cross the river, according to the border guard.
Law enforcement agencies have uncovered nearly 400 criminal networks that help individuals evade military service by helping them flee abroad, according to Andriy Demchenko, a spokesperson for the state border guard service.
Russian troops have taken over the village of Novobakhmutivka in Ukraine's Donetsk region, according to the Interfax news agency - citing Russia's defence ministry.
The village is close to the town of Ocheretyne which has become a focal point for fighting in recent days.
Russian forces are also reported to have repelled a series of counterattacks from the Ukrainians near Chasiv Yar, Interfax reported the ministry saying.
This is another key point in the Donetsk region - lying less than 10km from the occupied city of Bakhmut - where the two sides have clashed repeatedly.
Russia's Immortal Regiment March - which takes place on Victory Day to celebrate the defeat of Nazi Germany during the Second World War - has been cancelled for the second year in a row.
Due to take place on 9 May, the march usually sees thousands take to the streets with photographs of veterans, the UK's Ministry of Defence said.
But this year the photographs will be displayed in cars and public locations from 1-11 May.
Victory Day parades in five Russian regions will also not go ahead due to security concerns, according to the MoD.
The regions of Bryansk, Pskov, Ryazan, Kursk and Belgorod are all in western Russia and are deemed vulnerable to Ukrainian uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) strikes.
The parade was cancelled last year due to a UAV attack on the Kremlin .
On 7 May, a few days before the parade was scheduled to take place, the presidential inauguration of Vladimir Putin will be held in Moscow.
The MoD said the event may prompt protests.
Russian officials have this morning threatened the West with a "severe" response if frozen Russian assets are confiscated.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova added Russia would never give up territories seized from Ukraine in exchange for the return of frozen assets.
"Our motherland is not for sale," Ms Zakharova wrote on the Telegram messaging app.
"All Russian assets must remain untouched because otherwise there will be a severe response to Western thievery.
"Many in the West have already understood this. Alas, not everyone."
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov added that there was lots of Western money that could be targeted in countermeasures put in place by Moscow.
What assets have been frozen, and why sieze them now?
Today's comments from the Kremlin are the latest in a back-and-forth between Russia and the West after the US House of Representatives passed a bill allowing the Biden administration to confiscate Russian assets held in American banks and transfer them to Ukraine.
The assets - worth around $300bn - were frozen at the beginning of the war in Ukraine, as were transactions with Russia's central bank and finance ministry.
So far EU countries and the US have held off confiscating the assets for fears it could escalate tensions - or cause other countries like China and Saudi Arabia to fear for their own European assets.

Touring the Top 10 Moscow Metro Stations
By Claudia Looi 2 Comments
Komsomolskaya metro station looks like a museum. It has vaulted ceilings and baroque decor.
Hidden underground, in the heart of Moscow, are historical and architectural treasures of Russia. These are Soviet-era creations – the metro stations of Moscow.
Our guide Maria introduced these elaborate metro stations as “the palaces for the people.” Built between 1937 and 1955, each station holds its own history and stories. Stalin had the idea of building beautiful underground spaces that the masses could enjoy. They would look like museums, art centers, concert halls, palaces and churches. Each would have a different theme. None would be alike.
The two-hour private tour was with a former Intourist tour guide named Maria. Maria lived in Moscow all her life and through the communist era of 60s to 90s. She has been a tour guide for more than 30 years. Being in her 60s, she moved rather quickly for her age. We traveled and crammed with Maria and other Muscovites on the metro to visit 10 different metro stations.

Moscow subways are very clean
To Maria, every street, metro and building told a story. I couldn’t keep up with her stories. I don’t remember most of what she said because I was just thrilled being in Moscow. Added to that, she spilled out so many Russian words and names, which to one who can’t read Cyrillic, sounded so foreign and could be easily forgotten.
The metro tour was the first part of our all day tour of Moscow with Maria. Here are the stations we visited:
1. Komsomolskaya Metro Station is the most beautiful of them all. Painted yellow and decorated with chandeliers, gold leaves and semi precious stones, the station looks like a stately museum. And possibly decorated like a palace. I saw Komsomolskaya first, before the rest of the stations upon arrival in Moscow by train from St. Petersburg.
2. Revolution Square Metro Station (Ploshchad Revolyutsii) has marble arches and 72 bronze sculptures designed by Alexey Dushkin. The marble arches are flanked by the bronze sculptures. If you look closely you will see passersby touching the bronze dog's nose. Legend has it that good luck comes to those who touch the dog's nose.

3. Arbatskaya Metro Station served as a shelter during the Soviet-era. It is one of the largest and the deepest metro stations in Moscow.

4. Biblioteka Imeni Lenina Metro Station was built in 1935 and named after the Russian State Library. It is located near the library and has a big mosaic portrait of Lenin and yellow ceramic tiles on the track walls.

5. Kievskaya Metro Station was one of the first to be completed in Moscow. Named after the capital city of Ukraine by Kiev-born, Nikita Khruschev, Stalin's successor.

6. Novoslobodskaya Metro Station was built in 1952. It has 32 stained glass murals with brass borders.

7. Kurskaya Metro Station was one of the first few to be built in Moscow in 1938. It has ceiling panels and artwork showing Soviet leadership, Soviet lifestyle and political power. It has a dome with patriotic slogans decorated with red stars representing the Soviet's World War II Hall of Fame. Kurskaya Metro Station is a must-visit station in Moscow.

8. Mayakovskaya Metro Station built in 1938. It was named after Russian poet Vladmir Mayakovsky. This is one of the most beautiful metro stations in the world with 34 mosaics painted by Alexander Deyneka.

9. Belorusskaya Metro Station is named after the people of Belarus. In the picture below, there are statues of 3 members of the Partisan Resistance in Belarus during World War II. The statues were sculpted by Sergei Orlov, S. Rabinovich and I. Slonim.
10. Teatralnaya Metro Station (Theatre Metro Station) is located near the Bolshoi Theatre.
