Daniel Durant returns to Minnesota for Dancing with the Stars tour in Prior Lake

[anvplayer video=”5161024″ station=”998130″]

CODA actor and Dancing With The Stars contestant, Daniel Durant, made a return back to Minnesota to perform in ‘Dancing with the Stars Live 2023’. Daniel is originally from Duluth.

The tour has just begun with Daniel attached as a special guest for select locations. The show; taking place at the Mystic Lake Casino in Prior Lake Minnesota Friday.

For Daniel, dancing on tour in Minnesota is a full circle moment for his Dancing with the Stars journey. He says, “It feels great. And I can’t wait to be in my home state and so much of my family is coming and my friends, they’re all going to be at the show. And it’s just an incredible feeling. I can’t wait to show my loved ones, in person, our show. I can’t wait for them to see me perform.”

Daniel says the tour will showcase dance numbers from the show and some new ones as well.

“We’ll be doing three dances from the show”, says Daniel, “So first we’re going to dance the cha cha. And then second, we’re going to do our jazz. And third, we’re going to do our contemporary.” The cha cha continues to be one of Durant’s favorite numbers to perform.

As for the new dances, Daniel says, “In my experience so far, it’s a lot of fun! And I’m excited to perform them for the first time. It’s going to be different. There’s no judges watching me dance, it’s not a competition. Now I can put all those feelings away and it’s just, the cast and crew together, having fun on the road and working hard.”

Even though there’s no competition this time around, Team Sign To Shine still wants to bring that fire they had on the show. Daniel’s dance partner Britt Stewart says it’s a must.

In her experience working with Daniel, she says, “I think both Daniel and myself are performers, like natural performers. So I think it will be easy for us to get like back into that fire mode when we dance. And then, of course, being in Minnesota, I know is going to be a special show.”

Daniel, Britt, and interpreter Gabriel Gomez came together on Dancing with the Stars and developed a strong friendship together.

Britt says, “Working with Daniel, I had never met a deaf person before Daniel, let alone dance and teach someone that stuff. So this whole experience was very eye opening for me and it was a beautiful exchange and knowledge and information, which I think is very rare in life when you can work and be able to learn at the same time.”

“I’m so proud of our team, Britt, myself and Gabe, the three of us working so hard from start to finish of the season. And really I was happy with what we accomplished. I think we went really far and the competition was really good”, says Daniel.

Pro Dancer Britt Stewart and ‘CODA’ Actor Daniel Durant Are Engaged After ‘DWTS’ Partnership

“We still like to dance together. We got very lucky because he was able to come on the Dancing With the Stars Tour this winter. And spent two weeks with us. So that helped the transition from dancing together all the time to not,” she told Us in August. “And then I … surprised him with a surprise tango date, which was so much fun. He absolutely loved it. And then every once in a while, his favorite dance is [the] cha cha so he’ll, like, grab me in the kitchen or I’ll grab him in the kitchen and we’ll do a [bit of the cha cha] together.”

While ABC is the longtime home of The Bachelor, Dancing With the Stars might actually be their most successful matchmaking series.

On Friday, season 31 contestant Daniel Durant ( CODA ) and his pro partner Britt Stewart announced that they are engaged. Durant and Stewart shared the particulars of the proposal exclusively with PEOPLE , detailing a Christmas Day engagement in Lake Arrowhead, Calif.

Kevin Winter/Getty Images

Durant asked Stewart to marry him while the two were on a hike with their families, including Stewart's mom and stepdad, Jasmin and Lonnie Speed, and Durant's moms, Lori Durant and Mary Engels. On top of the mountain, the family members shared what they were most looking forward to in the new year.

"I was the last one — and I started talking about the year, about us meeting and everything that happens in life," Durant told PEOPLE, admitting, "I just feel like there's balance. She sees me. She knows my culture, my language, and understands everything about me."

"We were both emotional, overwhelmed with joy and at peace knowing that this would eventually be part of our story," Stewart added. "It felt like magic, but at the same time, it felt right and normal."

The couple met on season 31 of DWTS, paired together as celebrity contestant and pro dancer in fall 2022. They ultimately came in fifth place at the semifinals, narrowly missing a spot in the season's finale.

Durant and Stewart both stressed that their romance did not begin until after their journey together on the show had ended — in part because they were so focused on the competition. "I'm a really competitive person, I wanted to win this thing and so I saw that in her and we trained," Durant said.

Stewart made the decision to learn American Sign Language (ASL) as soon as she knew that Durant would be her partner. "When I met him and found out he was my partner on  Dancing With the Stars , immediately I was like, I must learn ASL because I'm teaching him how to dance," she noted. "I'm not going to use his interpreter."

That commitment helped the two forge a connection, which they first realized might be something more during week eight of the competition in which they performed a jazz routine to "Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche Mode. A significant portion of the dance was performed without music to give audiences a window into Durant's experiences as a deaf artist.

"For me, it was the moment when our lives showed each other," Stewart said. "I was really able to see him and his experience in  Dancing With the Stars , but then just a little of his life too."

When the two were eliminated from the competition, Durant said he realized he couldn't imagine a life without Stewart in it. "I think, in that moment, we realized what we had felt for each other," he explained. "It was more than friends and naturally we connected and started dating after that."

The two publicly confirmed their relationship on Valentine's Day 2023. Durant is an actor known for Best Picture winner CODA and his role in the Deaf West revival of Spring Awakening .

Stewart began her time on DWTS as a troupe member in season 23. She became the first Black pro dancer on the show in season 29. This past season she was paired with former NFL player, Adrian Peterson .

It's funny, I remember us meeting," concludes Stewart. "I remember us as teammates. I remember us as best friends, and then I remember us together. And now it feels like we've just been together for forever."

Daniel Durant Says His ‘Heart Connected’ to Engagement Ring for ‘Forever’ Love Britt Stewart (Exclusive)

The 'Dancing with the Stars' couple tells PEOPLE the story behind Stewart's infinity wedding band

Courtesy of Britt Stewart

Daniel Durant proposed to Britt Stewart with an engagement ring that represents their heartwarming love story.

The CODA actor, 34, popped the question in Lake Arrowhead, California, on Christmas with a sparkler set on an infinity band, which Stewart, a professional dancer, choreographer and Dancing with the Stars pro, says represents their eternal love for one another.

“It's beautiful because our way of saying ‘I love you’ is ‘I love you forever with infinity,’ through sign language,” Stewart, 34, tells PEOPLE exclusively of her special bond with Durant, who is Deaf. “I just knew that he saw me, he saw our relationship when he picked that ring.”

Durant was set on finding the “right ring” —  and that he did.

He landed on the perfect one, especially after seeing it in person. "My heart connected to it, and I had to get that ring," he tells PEOPLE via an American Sign Language interpreter, adding that “it belongs on her finger for sure.”

Never miss a story — sign up for  PEOPLE's free daily newsletter  to stay up to date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

Of course, Stewart said “yes,” but there may be one minor complication in the matter — she currently doesn't have her engagement ring, which had to be sent to the jeweler to be resized.

Durant didn’t want to "spook" Stewart by asking her about her ring size, but wanted to go ahead with his plan. "He has no patience," Stewart jokes, while her fiancé explains that "they'll be able to fix it and get it back to her."

When it's ready, she will “absolutely” be wearing her ring while she embarks on the Dancing with the Stars Live 2024 tour, which kicks off in Richmond, Virginia on Jan. 11.

Durant says he will meet her on tour to give her back her ring.

For now, Stewart plans on wearing an alternative ring she bought from Amazon so that her finger has a flash of bling.

Durant and Stewart confirmed their relationship this past Valentine's Day after competing on the ABC dance competition in 2022. Durant popped the question after the two shared Christmas breakfast with their families. After going on a hike together, they all shared what they were grateful for in celebration of the holiday, which was when Durant dropped to one knee and proposed. Stewart called the moment "perfect" and "authentic" to them as a couple.

The two have shared glimpses of their romance on social media. Stewart recently celebrated Durant’s birthday on Dec. 24 with a sweet video compilation shared to Instagram.

The video included footage of their hangouts and vacations, as well as the couple enjoying the small moments in life. Stewart also made sure to feature plenty of solo clips of the birthday boy.

“HAPPY BIRTHDAY my love! Daniel, you have completely changed my life! You have brought so much love, joy, laughter, light and much more to my every day. We have had the most amazing experiences in the past year and I can’t wait for what our futures holds. I wish for you a year filled with all that you desire to continue loving and growing. I love you forever!” Stewart wrote.

Review: DANCING WITH THE STARS: LIVE! 2024 TOUR at the Taft Theatre

After their sold-out performance in Cincinnati, this energetic showcase has several more stops on their U.S. tour.

pixeltracker

American reality television is filled with its share of talent competitions, but Dancing with the Stars is one that has become a long withstanding staple in the industry. Even if a person has never seen a single episode, they’re likely to at least have heard of it or know the basic premise. For the dedicated, however, it becomes a special time to learn which professional dancer will match up with which celebrity to compete for the Mirrorball trophy. Over the course of 32 seasons beginning in 2005, more and more people are drawn to the excitement, and the professional dancers have gained a significant following of their own.

The official Dancing with the Stars tours began in 2014 and have continued on a mostly annual basis. But while the TV show focuses a great deal on the competitive and celebrity aspects, the tours become a showcase to highlight the professional dancers and their highly advanced skills. The 2024 tour cast includes EMMA SLATER as the host, and she is joined by fellow dancers Alan Bersten, Britt Stewart, Brandon Armstrong , Daniella Karagach, GLEB SAVCHENKO , Pasha Pashkov, and Rylee Arnold. Special guests are also invited to join stretches of the tour, and the February 6th performance featured recent Bachelorette star Charity Lawson, a finalist in the 32nd season of Dancing with the Stars . Her dance partner from the show, Artem Chigvintsev , joined her as well.

This sold-out performance at the Taft Theatre in Cincinnati, Ohio was highly anticipated by local fans, and they voiced their elation over seeing their favorite dancers in person. The show started right on time, as one could expect from performers who are used to being on a strict schedule, and they opened with a group number accompanied by Rosemary Clooney ’s rendition of “Sway” bellowing from the speakers to get everyone in the mood for what was to come over the next two hours. While the show’s central focus was on the exceptional dance performances, they also kept everything varied throughout to keep engagement. A wide range of music was used from both vintage and modern eras, and the dancing style and tempo would change along with each song. In between, Emma would interview Charity (who was celebrating her first stop on the tour) about her time on Dancing with the Stars . At one point during her introduction with Artem, he shared the greatest fear a male dancer could face once paired with a female celebrity: if she is tall. Due to an incorrect Google result, he was quite nervous how working with Charity would go until her arrival, when her height ended up being substantially shorter than what the Internet claimed it to be. A wave of relief washed over him as he realized he would have more flexibility with tricks and tosses and whatnot, and they proved their partnership to be rather successful during their season.

A certain tangent in the second act ended up being an unexpectedly hilarious segment of the evening. One lucky audience member was plucked out of the crowd and brought up on stage to participate in a blind “dating” game of sorts. Using a series of provided questions, she was able to converse with three mystery dancers on the other side of the partition in order to decide which would be the best partner for her own special dance. Their answers brought a raucous laughter through the house, and Alan’s responses like, “I don’t have kids, but you can call me daddy,” led to him being chosen by the invited guest, and together they shared a brief rumba.

While so many dance routines stood out as potential favorites, they all worked in tandem to create a cohesive event. Each one was welcomed for the different emotions it brought, from lighthearted, to energetic, to sultry, to somber. Dance as an art is massively reliant on dynamics and creativity, and this tour displays so much of that. The dancers are unequivocally talented, both as a group and in their own individual ways. Not only do they hold the physical attributes that make their dancing so strong, but they are also endearing, good-natured, and naturally supportive of each other and their guests. Charity reflects on the kindness they showed her and the other celebrity stars during this past season, and if the excited screams in the audience were any indication, these dancers have certainly earned the respect of many others.

The 2024 tour of Dancing with the Stars: Live! is an absolute joy for both new and old fans of the TV show, or even for anyone who just enjoys a huge spectacle and superb dancing. Every necessary element has an elevated presence, especially when it comes to the bright, bedazzled costumes. Most importantly, it honors the acclaimed professionals for the work they do to portray and adapt traditional ballroom dance for a modern audience. The dancers’ backgrounds and techniques are used to great advantage in their performances, giving their admirers proper examples of what the art can be and what they can strive for if they wish to pursue dance themselves. Artistic activities such as choreographed, partnered dance are based in positive qualities like collaboration, passion, and dedication, and attending this show provides a good opportunity to remember just how beneficial these core values are. It is so inspiring to see these dance professionals be celebrated in their best form.

The 2024 tour of Dancing with the Stars: Live! continues through March 27th, stopping in several more cities across the United States before concluding in Los Angeles, California. For more information and to find tickets, visit dwtstour.com or click the link below.

Derek Hough returns to SLC to dance up a TV special — and his wife is back on stage with him

U tah native Derek Hough is bringing his “Symphony of Dance” tour to Salt Lake City for the second time, and the big news is what won’t be different.

The performance — set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main, Salt Lake City — is the same show that last played to a sold-out Eccles Theater last October. And, to the surprise of many, Hough will once again be joined on stage by his wife, Haley Erbert Hough, just five months after she underwent emergency brain surgery.

“It’s been amazing, man,” Hough said in a phone interview with The Salt Lake Tribune “She’s doing fantastic. It’s incredible to see her progress.”

During a stop in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 6, the 29-year-old Erbert Hough became disoriented and was taken to a hospital. She was quickly taken into surgery, and a piece of her skull was removed so doctors could repair an intracranial hematoma — blood vessels that had burst inside her brain. She later needed followup surgery to repair her skull.

“It was unfathomable,” Hough said. “It just didn’t feel real. But it’s the new reality. We’re just focusing on what’s good. That’s it.”

And the news about Erbert Hough has been surprisingly good. In April, doctors cleared her to return to performing. She’ll be dancing when the tour returns to the Eccles on Wednesday.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled with the way her recovery has gone,” Hough said. “We’re very blessed.”

It’s not standard procedure for any sort of tour to return to a venue it’s already played. But Hough has reasons for the return — and it’s not just that this is his hometown, and the place where his father and many family members live. It’s also “the culture of dance” in Utah. “It’s a really great place to showcase this show,” he said.

His tour had to rebook dates because shows were canceled when his wife was hospitalized, “and I just said, ‘Hey, I’d love to go back to Salt Lake .’ And so we’re going back with the same show and we’re very excited about it.”

There will be something decidedly different than when the tour played the Eccles last October. This new date will be filmed for an upcoming TV special “so the audience is not just going to watch, they’re going to be a part of the show.” (When and on what platform the special will air has not been announced.)

“I was, like, ‘This is a theater to do it in.’ It’s so beautiful. The audiences are amazing. It’s my hometown. It’s a great, great place. So we’re very excited about it.”

He said performing in Utah is special to him. “Whenever I go there, it’s a reminder to me of where I came from, when I first went to dance.”

He remembers himself as “this kid from South Jordan, Utah,” who went to dance class in Orem “and then I moved to England at 12 years old and trained and competed all around the world and won competitions. And then doing television and doing Broadway and doing West End” shows in London. And Utah “definitely” remains “a place that makes me reflect a lot about my journey.”

Dance was not his dream, at least not to begin with. Like a lot of kids, he harbored notions of becoming a pro athlete or a rock star. “And it’s kind of funny, because I feel like I’m fulfilling both of those childhood dreams with dance,” Hough said. “I’m able to play music and sing on stage and rock out with the audience. But I’m also able to be a professional athlete, which is a dancer.”

Salt Lake City and Idaho Falls?

Hough has set aside tickets for family members for his Salt Lake City performance — and he set aside even more for a May 14 performance in Idaho Falls because, he said, “pretty much all of my family on my mom’s side lives there.” They told him there was a new arena in town and urged him to schedule a show there.

(That would be the Mountain America Center, which is home to the Spud Kings, a minor league hockey team.)

Hough called up his bookers and told them he wanted to schedule a show in Idaho Falls. Their response: “Oh, we’ve never really done that before.” But they scheduled it, and the show is close to a sell-out.

Which, apparently, came as a surprise to bookers who had never heard of Idaho Falls. “They know about it now,” Hough said with a laugh. “They’re, like, ‘Wow, this is a great market!’”

Just keep dancing

Hough is sort of a latter-day Fred Astaire — a dancer who became a star. Astaire kept dancing into his 70s, so how long does 38-year-old Hough think he can keep it going?

There’s no end in sight, said Hough, who feels “so fortunate” to live in a time when so much “health information is out there to create longevity. And I know for me, I’ve certainly added years to my career just based off of my habits I’ve created the past couple of years.”

That regimen includes “diet, body work, hyperbaric chambers, ice baths, IV treatments, supplements — all these different things to really change my bio age,” he said. “I’m 38 now, but my bio age is 30. … And you can actually bring that down. Wiithout getting too much into the science and all these different things, that’s the goal — to almost reverse your bio age and keep the longevity going.

“Who knows? I’ll do it as long as they’ll have me.”

Still ‘Dancing with the Stars’

Hough remains as enthusiastic about his judging gig on “Dancing With the Stars” as he is about dancing himself.

“It’s a show I love so much,” he said. “There’s a reason why it’s been around for so long. It always feels new and refreshed each season. And it’s a pleasure to be a part of it.”

He’s glad that the “experiment” of moving “DWTS” from ABC to streaming only on Disney+ resulted in the show airing on both platforms. “We’re very, very happy to be back on ABC and Disney+ networks.” he said.

And, as far as he’s concerned, Alfonso Ribeiro and Hough’s sister, Julianne, are doing a “phenomenal job” as the show’s hosts. “I think last year, we just felt very much like, ‘OK, we’re back to, like, the heart and feeling of what ‘Dancing with the Stars’ has always been.”

And he’s having “so much fun” on the show. “It’s such a blast. Being a part of it for 17 seasons as a pro, I understand how challenging it is. How difficult it is. But how rewarding and fulfilling it is. It’s wonderful to see these new dancers and new pros on the show and just the excitement and the energy and just, like, the bright-eyed-ness of it all.”

Although he’s been struck by the fact that ther show has been on the air since 2005, and that some of the new dancers were just children when he joined the show.

Hough’s first appearance was in 2007 , when he was just 21. He was a guest instructor for Julianne and Olympic speed skating gold medalist Apolo Anton Ono, the eventual winners of Season 4. Derek Hough became one of the main dancers in Season 5, and went on to win the mirror ball trophy six times — more than any other professional dancer, and twice as many anyone else.

Still, it’s a bit startling when he realizes that some of the new dancers “were, like, 5 years old” when he joined the series. “They grew up watching the show, and now they’re a part of it. It’s pretty incredible,” Hough said.

“And it cracks me up every time somebody says, ‘I used to watch you when I was a kid.’ I’m, like, ‘How old are you?’” he said, laughing.

Strictly Come Dancing legends to reunite for nostalgic show - here's how to get tickets

The Legends of the Dance Floor tour later this year will bring together former Strictly Come Dancing stars Brendan Cole, Ian Waite, James Jordan, Pasha Kovalev and Vincent Simone

A group of former Strictly Come Dancing stars are set to unite for a new show that promises to be a "nostalgic celebration" of various dance styles in the coming months.

The Legends of the Dance Floor tour will bring together Brendan Cole , Ian Waite , James Jordan , Pasha Kovalev and Vincent Simone . They have previously headlined their own solo shows but haven't toured as a five-piece group.

The professional dancers - who are each no longer on the BBC show - are set to team up for the 18-date tour later this year. Joined by a supporting cast, it's been teased that they will take audiences on a journey through their careers.

Brendan, who did Strictly from 2004 to 2017, said: "We are going to produce something very special and very unique." The dancer, who won with newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky , added: "I'm really excited to see what we produce on that stage because I know it's going to be something really magical."

Whilst Pasha, who was a cast member from 2011 to 2018, said: "This show is for anyone who loves dancing." The former participant, who won with the late presenter Caroline Flack , added: "We are going back to our roots, back to traditional ballroom and Latin dancing, it's going to be so much fun on stage."

Vincent, who appeared on Strictly from 2006 until 2012, teased: "There is going to be lots of glamour and lots of passion." The dancer, who was a finalist with singer Rachel Stevens , continued: "There will be so much talent on one stage, not just from us five but also from our amazing cast."

James was a dancer on the BBC show from 2006 until his departure in 2013, having reached the final with presenter Denise van Outen at one point. Ian, who was a cast member from 2004 to 2009, was finalist with contestants including athlete Denise Lewis during his time on the show.

The group's show, Legends of The Dance Floor, is set to entertain audiences nationwide from October 1 to 22. The tour includes a performance at London 's Adelphi Theatre on October 8, and will visit various other venues too.

A synopsis for it teases: "In what promises to be a nostalgic celebration of Latin, ballroom, tango, rumba and so much more, the dance stars will be joined by an incredible supporting cast as they take us on a journey through their illustrious careers and Strictly highlights while reminiscing on how they became your Legends of The Dance Floor."

It's been announced that tickets go on sale next Monday (May 20) at 10am. Organisers have shared that fans can now sign up for "exclusive" pre-sale ticket access, which is said to end later this week on Thursday (May 16), for the tour.

Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster , including pre-sale. Organisers have also announced that tickets will be available through "all venues" themselves and fans can sign up for "exclusive presale access" on the tour's website .
