It comes after Dave announced a UK and Ireland headline tour for next year . He’ll kick off the run of gigs at Nottingham’s Motorpoint Arena on February 15, 2022. Other stop-offs include Birmingham, Leeds, Cardiff, Manchester, Newcastle, Liverpool and Glasgow.

The rapper headlined Parklife 2021 in Manchester last month, where he was joined on stage by surprise guest Stormzy . Together, the pair treated the Heaton Park crowd to a live airing of their collaborative track ‘Clash’ .

In a glowing five-star review of Dave’s latest album, NME wrote: “As illustrated throughout the stunning ‘Psychodrama’, Dave has always been the one to rap traditionally, using hip-hop for what it was intended to do: give a voice to the voiceless.

“He has always been able to show the inner-workings of many young Londoners in a clean and universal way that can perhaps help the whole world to better understand the Black British experience, especially that of Black men.”

Foo Fighters Live Review: Dave Grohl’s men triumph at emotional return to London

A rejuvenated foo fighters bring the everything or nothing at all tour to the capital.

Foo Fighters' London Stadium June 20 2024

Foo Fighters

London Stadium, London, June 20, 2024

“I’m gonna kick your ass tonight, ladies and gentleman,” warns Dave Grohl shortly after arriving onstage, as he surveys the immense London Stadium crowd gathered before him.

READ MORE: Inside Nirvana's Last UK Show: “It was touch and go...”

This moment was never guaranteed. The last time Foo Fighters played London, for the Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium in September 2022, it wasn’t entirely clear if fans were bearing witness to an ending or a new beginning. A double-helix set made up of mourning and celebration, that day the Foos were joined by Paul McCartney , Liam Gallagher , Chrissie Hynde , plus assorted members of Led Zeppelin , Queen, Metallica , AC/DC, Rush and more, to commemorate their late drummer. Flanked by his band at its close, Grohl left things open-ended. No time-scale for a return. Nor any promise of what form that might even take. “Let’s hear it for Taylor fucking Hawkins,” he said, bidding farewell. “We’ll see you around.”

What has transpired between that tearful goodbye and tonight’s “ass-kicking” registers as one of the most remarkable second acts in modern rock. Third, if you factor in Grohl’s own journey of self-determination after Nirvana . Charged by the dual-bereavement of both Hawkins and Grohl’s mother Virginia within six months of each other in 2022, Foo Fighters re-emerged with one of their very best records in last year’s But Here We Are . Its lyrics sharpened by grief, it was largely unconcerned with hitting the radio-ready melodic highs of the past. The looming question for touring it was whether Foos’ sets would now, inevitably, feel overridingly heavy where they once largely felt uplifting?

Tonight, they waste little time offering answers. The difference between 2022’s elegiac night in Wembley and this grandstanding London Stadium set could not be starker as they open with the build-and-release rush of All My Life and the crowd begins convulsing. Mere minutes into it, Grohl already looks like he’s played the entire three-hour set – his pearly whites occasionally glimpsed through the sweaty black hair stuck to his face. A few songs later, during The Pretender, he all but has to wrest vocal duties back from the crowd who have completely taken over. “Can I sing?” he asks. “Pretty, please?” It won’t be the first time. The Best Of You’s potent ‘woah-oh-oh’ hook is not only projected back to him en-masse during the song’s breakdown, it also becomes the official soundtrack of the queue for the tubes long after the night has finished.

For all this crowd-pleasing, what quickly comes into focus as the night progresses is that the Foos have perhaps not always been given the credit they deserve for refusing to play it safe live. Or at least as safe as they could. They dispatch a cavalcade of other hits – Monkey Wrench, My Hero, Big Me, Learn To Fly and Times Like These – and all make for reliably easy victories with a crowd aching to sing them. Yet it’s the manner in which this set double-shifts as a curiosities collection that elevates it. Or, as expressed in Grohlian: “We’ve got some deep cuts for you motherfuckers.”

There is a renewed focus on 1999’s There Is Nothing Left To Lose , notably the first Foos album Taylor Hawkins recorded on. Generator is a thrill, while Stacked Actors takes what is already the heaviest Foo Fighters track and cranks up the distortion with wild abandon. At the other end of the spectrum, but still taken from the same album, the plinking Aurora (which Grohl notes was Taylor Hawkins’ favourite Foos song) coming back into regular setlist rotation is a deft move.

While they are in fierce form, special mention should go to Josh Freese. Even granted his reputation as a session man extraordinaire, the task of becoming the Foos’ new drummer was still viewed by some to be a poisoned chalice. Taylor Hawkins was more than the sum of his parts – not only a blur of flailing limbs behind the kit, but also a charismatic, co-singing, shit-talking foil to Grohl. Freese deserves enormous credit for neither trying to overly impose himself nor shrinking, apologetically, behind his kit. He simply makes himself known with each gargantuan hit, particularly when pummeling his way through an extended drum solo in Breakout.

There are setlist casualties. Time is made for little snippets of Beastie Boys, The Beatles , Black Sabbath , Paul McCartney , Nine Inch Nails, Devo, Led Zeppelin and more between or during songs, but nothing from 2014’s Sonic Highways . Equally, some stand-out singles are AWOL, as are some of their finest entries like Hey, Johnny Park! and Exhausted. This is partly because they are still very much committed to their present. On paper, say, No Son Of Mine, from 2021’s Medicine At Midnight , would not be as desired by fans as the absent Run or White Limo, but it’s good they take the risk. Not least because the track profits enormously from having its studio sheen royally scuffed up.

Of the newer material aired, however, it is the But Here We Are tracks that impress most. Rescued is dispatched early on to brilliant effect, with Nothing At All following later. Taylor Hawkins’ presence is felt acutely. No more so than when Grohl reworks his meditation on their friendship, Under You, as an acoustic gem. Here, the fragility of the beer-chugging, gum-chewing frontman is laid bare. Voice cracking, some lyrics missed or choked upon, the crowd often sings when he cannot. He has family on hand to help, too. Grohl invites his daughter Violet for a duet on Show Me How, while Hawkins’ son, Shane, gets behind the kit for a breakneck run through I’ll Stick Around from the band’s 1995 debut.

Nothing broadcasts their ambition quite like The Teacher. Written for Grohl’s late mother, it is not just Foo Fighters’ longest song but also their most progressive – mutating from its concussed intro to howling outro across the course of 10 minutes. It should not, in theory, work as the start of an encore in a stadium. It does.

What is also omitted from But Here We serves as a poignant reminder. That songs as affecting as Beyond Me and Rest still remain unaired live to date feels telling. Some tracks, it seems, may still be too raw to perform. The sing-alongs, the fireworks that shoot up into the sky during the closing strains of Everlong, they all serve to camouflage just how hard-won a victory this has been. ‘There’s no getting over it,’ Grohl sings at one point of the loss that led to this moment. So it may always prove. But tonight proves that somehow, against all odds, there is a still way through.

David Gilmour Luck and Strange

David Gilmour has announced his new album ‘Luck and Strange’, to be released on 6th September and 21 Tour Dates at The Royal Albert Hall in London, The Circo Massimo in Italy, The Intuit Dome, The Hollywood Bowl in CA, and Madison Square Garden in NY.

'Luck and Strange’ was recorded over five months in Brighton and London and is Gilmour’s first album of new material in nine years. The record was produced by David and Charlie Andrew, best known for his work with alt-J and Marika Hackman. Of this new working relationship, David says, “We invited Charlie to the house, so he came and listened to some demos, and said things like, “Well, why does there have to be a guitar solo there?” and “Do they all fade out? Can’t some of them just end?”. He has a wonderful lack of knowledge or respect for this past of mine. He’s very direct and not in any way overawed, and I love that. That is just so good for me because the last thing you want is people just deferring to you.”

The majority of the album’s lyrics have been composed by Polly Samson, Gilmour’s co-writer and collaborator for the past thirty years. Samson says of the lyrical themes covered on ‘Luck and Strange’, “It’s written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant.” Gilmour elaborates, “We spent a load of time during and after lockdown talking about and thinking about those kind of things.” Polly has also found the experience of working with Charlie Andrew liberating, “He wants to know what the songs are about, he wants everyone who’s playing on them to have the ideas that are in the lyric informing their playing. I have particularly loved it for that reason.” The album features eight new tracks along with a beautiful reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers’ ‘Between Two Points’ and has artwork and photography by the renowned artist Anton Corbijn. Musicians contributing to the record include Guy Pratt & Tom Herbert on bass, Adam Betts, Steve Gadd and Steve DiStanislao on drums, Rob Gentry & Roger Eno on keyboards with string and choral arrangements by Will Gardner. The title track also features the late Pink Floyd keyboard player Richard Wright, recorded in 2007 at a jam in a barn at David’s house. Some contributions emerged from the live streams that Gilmour and family performed to a global audience during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021; Romany Gilmour sings, plays the harp and appears on lead vocals on ‘Between Two Points’. Gabriel Gilmour also sings backing vocals. The album’s cover image, photographed and designed by Anton Corbijn, is inspired by a lyric written by Charlie Gilmour for the album’s final song ‘Scattered’. Of working with his family on ‘Luck and Strange’, David says, “Polly and I have been writing together for over thirty years and the Von Trapped live streams showed the great blend of Romany’s voice and harp-playing and that led us into a feeling of discarding some of the past that I’d felt bound to and that I could throw those rules out and do whatever I felt like doing, and that has been such a joy.” Luck and Strange 1. What to know about the Dave Matthews Band shows at Alpine Valley

dave tour 2022

Dave Matthews Band will make one of its many visits to the Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy for two shows, Friday and Saturday nights.

Here's what to know about the concerts:

When are the Dave Matthews Band concerts at Alpine Valley?

Both shows begin at 7 p.m. and feature an opening act. On Friday, Katie Pruitt will open; on Saturday, it'll be Michael Marcagi.

Where is Alpine Valley?

The music theatre's address is 2699 County Road D in East Troy, nestled between Elkhorn and East Troy.

Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.

The amphitheater can host up to 37,000 fans, with 7,500 in the sheltered seating area and a large lawn area accommodating the rest.

The venue has hosted a series of iconic shows during its nearly 50 years of operation, though it did go dark for the 2017 season and was sold to a publicly held company in 2019.

Its rotating cast of regulars have included acts catering to the "jam band" crowd, including DMB, Phish, the Zac Brown Band, Dead & Company and Jimmy Buffett.

Can I get tickets for the Dave Matthews Band concerts at Alpine Valley?

You can still get tickets to see Dave Matthews Band, with ample offerings starting at $68 for a lawn seat through the Live Nation ticket portal . You can also buy a two-day lawn pass for $111.75 before fees.

When was the last time Dave Matthews Band was in Milwaukee?

The band regularly visits the area, most recently last summer (June 29, 2023) at Summerfest, but it routinely makes trips to Alpine Valley. Setlist.fm indicates DMB has played 37 shows at the venue, dating to 1998.

The band last came to Alpine Valley July 2 and 3, 2022, and also played two shows at Alpine Valley in 2019, 2016, 2015, 2013, 2012 and every year from 2002 to 2010. Plus twice more in 2000 and 1999, when the band played both Summerfest and Alpine Valley. DMB also came to Summerfest in 2021, 2018 and 2014.

Saturday might be the biggest Milwaukee music day ever

The band's shows will play Friday, June 21 and Saturday, June 22, playing concurrently with Summerfest on Milwaukee's lakefront. But that's not all; on Saturday, Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown Band will play at American Family Field , and the Tacos and Tequila Festival will take place in Franklin.

It has an argument for the biggest Milwaukee live-music day … ever.

Expect traffic jams at Alpine Valley for the Dave Matthews Band concerts

Isolated in the rolling hills of East Troy, Alpine Valley is a special place to see a show. It also has a reputation for bad traffic. The drive for the last two miles into the Alpine lots can last a full hour before a sold-out show.

On the bright side, parking is free.

Consider bringing some rain gear to the Dave Matthews Band concerts at Alpine Valley

According to the National Weather Service, the East Troy area has a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday, mainly before 9 p.m. On Saturday, there's a 90% chance of rain and more opportunity for afternoon thunderstorms.

Taylor Swift Eras Tour: Final UK shows at London's Wembley Stadium 'will boost economy by £300m'

Fans are expected to spend an average of £471 per concert, according to official estimates. Nearly 640,000 people will attend the star's eight sold-out gigs in the capital.

The final UK shows of Taylor Swift's Eras Tour are expected to boost London's economy by £300m, officials have claimed.

The US star will perform three gigs at London's Wembley Stadium this Friday, Saturday and Sunday - before returning to the venue in August for a further five dates.

The sold-out shows will be attended by a total of nearly 640,000 people.

The Greater London Authority (GLA) estimates fans will spend an average of £471 per show, with many travelling from around the world or other parts of the country to watch.

The capital's mayor Sadiq Khan said he was "delighted" the 34-year-old was playing more shows in the city than anywhere else in the world during her Eras Tour.

He said the gigs would be "a huge boost to our hospitality industry and [provide] further proof that London is the greatest city in the world to watch live music."

It comes following the singer's shows in Edinburgh , Liverpool and Cardiff this month.

Officials in London are keen to harness enthusiasm for Swift's visit.

Transport for London has said it will rename some Tube stations on a special one-off map in her honour, while Mr Khan has also unveiled a mural of the singer on the Spanish Steps outside Wembley Stadium.

The GLA said its economic estimate was based on research by tourism body UKInbound.

A previous study claimed Swift's shows would have an even bigger impact - with Barclays predicting that fans would fork out a total of almost £1bn across her 15 UK shows.

The singer's global tour - the highest-grossing of all time - has officially arrived in the UK today, with the 15-show run kicking off in Edinburgh

However, some commentators have questioned the claims.

George Moran, an economist at Japanese bank Nomura, expressed doubts over the alleged net benefit of the tour, saying he believed some fans would be cutting back on other spending in order to attend.

He told The Guardian last month: "We think the idea has been overhyped, especially for economies like the UK."

Nonetheless, there appears little doubt that fans - some of whom have spent around £200 on tickets alone - will be spending big on accommodation, food and merchandise during the UK gigs.

The multi-billion pound tour is also expected to be a major earner for Swift, who has an estimated net worth of more than $1.1bn (£0.9bn), according to Forbes.

The star has faced criticism for some spending, including her frequent use of private jets .

It comes amid a boom in concert tours worldwide - and their increasingly hefty economic impact .

Last year, officials in Sweden said two shows by singer Beyonce in Stockholm may have been responsible for a rise in inflation in the country.
