For Indians, any time of the year is a good time to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Reachable from New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in under 4 hours, or from the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport in just over this time, the UAE is accessible by air from most major Indian cities in an average of 4 hours.

Dubai, a hop-over destination

Indians keep visiting this booming, safe and secure Gulf country to enjoy its shopping, recreation and adventure potential, and to meet up with family and friends, who oblige them with whirlwind tours through this mini paradise. For Indians, the UAE, and in particular Dubai, has become their home away from home, a hop-over destination for extended weekends and national holidays.

The region’s wide range of attractions cater to the tastes of all varieties of holiday-makers. From the skyscrapers lining Sheikh Zayed Road, the world-class mega malls and multi-million-dollar offshore developments, to the Old World souks, beaches and adrenaline-charged desert safaris, Dubai has it all.

Dubai is also a popular transit destination for travellers, owing to its geographically central location between Asia and Europe. Over the last decade, the UAE has seen a tremendous growth in the number of travellers from India. Even the hot summer months of July and August when outside is blazing hot, the cool air-conditioned malls in the UAE are flush with tourists, who come to partake in the Summer Surprises shopping bonanza.

Dubai Visa Processing Centre (DVPC), VFS Global’s exclusive facility for Emirates Airline and the Government of Dubai for processing UAE visas, launched in October 2002, plays a great role in facilitating the visa of Indians travelling to the country.

This is ideal for those who wish to travel to the UAE and plan to stay for less than 2 days. Business travellers often go for such a visa, or as a stopover en route to their onward destination.

96-Hours Dubai Visa : This visa is valid for a 96-hour stay and is a single entry visa including your date of entry and exit. Such a visa is preferred by travellers who intend to stay for a period of less than 4 days. Business travellers who have a few business meetings scheduled, have point-to-point travel or are taking a stopover en route to their onward destination, opt for this visa category.

Short-Term Single Entry Visa : This tourist visa is valid for 30 days and is a single entry visa which includes the date of entry and exit. Reasons Your Dubai Visa Can Get Rejected

Here are some reasons why your Dubai Visa Application can get rejected:

- In case you are a woman below the age of 24 and are travelling alone, there could be a delay or rejection of your visa, suspecting human trafficking.

- Any previous criminal record or fraud or any misconduct in the UAE or in India can lead to your visa getting rejected.

- In case you had a UAE residence visa earlier and left the country without cancelling the visa. The Public Relation Officer needs to have it cancelled for you before issuing you a new tourist visa.

- In case the scanned copies of your passport are not legible and the UAE immigration finds it suspect and rejects or delays the process of granting you a Dubai visa.

- Your visa can get rejected if your passport lists you as a non-white collar professional like a labourer, a farmer etc.

- In case your visa application has some typos in the name, passport number, date of birth, passport issuance and expiry dates, your application can get rejected or delayed.

- In case you had applied for a tourist visa to Dubai and had not utilised it. You then have to get it first cancelled from an OTA before applying for a new UAE visa.

- In case you have applied for an employment visa through an organisation in the UAE and did not utilise it. In such a case the PRO of the very company needs to first cancel your visa in order for you to apply for a fresh Dubai visa.

UAE visiting visa: Better to purchase onward and return tickets from same airline; here's why

 alt=

Dubai: Travel agencies have been giving their customers directives about the UAE's strict visit visa rules to ensure they can board flights without any difficulties. The latest instruction for the travellers is to book the return ticket on the same airline to avoid confusion during the emigration procedure. Some passengers with return tickets booked in a different airline could not board the flights at some airports. Those who are travelling on a visiting visa usually submit dummy tickets. They cancel this ticket as soon as they enter UAE. If the return ticket too is from the same airline, then the airport staff will be able to verify its validity while issuing the boarding pass. Besides the return ticket, the visit visa holders should carry or have in their account 3000 dirhams for a month-long visa and 5000 dirhams for a two–month visa. Credit cards with these limits too would be allowed. The travellers should submit documents of hotel booking, and in case they are staying with a friend or a relative, they should give the details of their visas, address proof and Emirates id.

UAE immigration authorities intensify scrutiny on 'Visit Visa' holders, check the new guidelines here

The new guidelines now require travellers to carry or have access to 3,000 dirhams (approximately inr 68,000) for one-month visas..

  • Updated May 24, 2024, 5:27 PM IST

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ramped up airport inspections and screenings to identify individuals arriving on Visit Visas

In recent developments, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ramped up airport inspections and screenings to identify individuals arriving on Visit Visas who may be seeking employment opportunities. According to the reports, immigration officials have heightened scrutiny at UAE airports, particularly focusing on passengers hailing from Kottayam and Idukki districts in Kerala where inadequate travel documentation has led to detainments and travel disruptions.

In response to similar cases, airlines have received directives mandating strict enforcement of documentation requirements, including the financial buffer stipulation.

What are the new guidelines?

- The new guidelines now require travellers to carry or have access to 3,000 dirhams (approximately INR 68,000) for one-month visas

- Travellers need to have 5,000 dirhams for longer stays, with credit card equivalents meeting these thresholds also accepted

- Non-compliance with these regulations could lead to fines of 5,000 dirhams per passenger imposed on airlines for individuals lacking the necessary documents upon arrival in the UAE.

- Moreover, according to the reports, passengers holding tourist visas must present hotel reservation documents and have a financial buffer of 5,000 dirhams (approximately INR 1.3 lakh) for expenses, in addition to valid visas and return tickets.

Failure to meet these criteria has resulted in denied boarding for many passengers, even after providing visa details, contact information, and local addresses. Those affected by the cancellations faced challenges such as non-refundable tickets, inability to reschedule, and extended waits at the airport before their return journey.

The intensified inspections were initiated at Kochi and Kozhikode airports in Kerala, resulting in the detention of multiple passengers who failed to meet the necessary documentation requirements. Reports indicate that over 20 travellers were prevented from boarding flights at Cochin International Airport, while up to five individuals were denied travel daily at Calicut International Airport. Consequently, around 30 passengers in Kozhikode had to cancel their travel plans in light of the stringent scrutiny measures.

Furthermore, Dubai immigration authorities have issued specific guidelines for visitors holding tourist visas, emphasising the prohibition of employment activities, verification of accommodation arrangements, and scrutiny of available funds to cover expenses.

Visitors on employment visas must complete visa procedures promptly upon entry for legal work authorisation, while tourists engaging in leisure activities must provide detailed information on their accommodation, return tickets, and financial capabilities.

Overall, the heightened scrutiny on visit visa holders underscores the UAE's commitment to regulating entry and ensuring compliance with visa conditions, particularly in light of job-seeking concerns among certain passenger demographics.
