Florida Georgia Line are an American country music duo formed in Nashville, Tennessee in 2010. The individual members Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley, hail from Ormond Beach, Florida, and Monroe, Georgia, respectively.

It’s certainly no surprise to note that Florida Georgia Line can trace their actual origins as a band to Nashville, Tennessee - it is, after all, pretty much the world capital of country music - but there’s two things that lend them something of a unique flavor; one is their youth, with both members still in their twenties, and the other is the fact that they both grew up in the south-east corner of the country - hence the name. Alongside the likes of Josh Thompson, Corey Smith and Gary Allan, amongst others, Hubbard and Kelley are helping to spearhead a new, fresh-faced movement in a genre of music often viewed as stuffy and the preserve of the older generation.

Their December 2012 debut record, “Here’s to the Good Times”, fizzed with the vigor of youth, especially on singles like “Cruise” and “Get Your Shine On”; if anything, that was perhaps the case to an unwelcome degree, given that they eschewed the possibility of bringing in an experienced country producer. Follow-up album Anything Goes, though - released in October 2014 - has helped to cement their reputation for doing things on their own terms, with Nickelback collaborator Joey Moi brought in on production duties on an album that topped the Billboard charts.

Live reviews

Florida Georgia Line was awesome and if I ever have the opportunity to see them again, I'm definitely going. They made their grand entrance on This Is How We Roll and things only get better from there. In addition to sounding good, they also had one of the best stage setups I've ever seen, from the pyrotechnics to the lighting and the things they showed on the big screen while they were performing. At one point, they even did Snippets of the Backstreet Boys' Rock Your Body and Montell Jordan's This Is How We Do It, along with House of Pain's Jump Around. From that and their songs, you can tell that they have a variety of musical influences, which is most likely why their music appeals to such a wide variety of people and this event was sold out. In fact, they set the record for the highest attendance for the year at the Hollywood Casino and it was packed, so packed that it took me 45 minutes to get from my car to my seat. But even with that, the crowd wasn't out of control or extremely rowdy, which was a miracle seeing how long it took most people to get in and how many people were in attendance. So yes, I will definitely see them again

I saw Florida Georgia line at a show they were putting on in my town. Like a lot of people, I’ve been a fan of theirs since I discovered the song Cruise. Once I heard that song, I got deeper in to their music and have become quite a fan of theirs.

When they took the stage the crowd went nuts and that set the tone for the rest of the show. They played for just over an hour and the vibe of the crowd was great from start to finish. They played their best known song for the crowd, which everyone loved but they also played some of their lesser known stuff which was nice. It opened my eyes to some of their other stuff. They performed This Is How We Roll, Dayum Baby, they also played a cover of Locked Out of Heaven by Bruno Mars. They did an amazing job with it to, I was surprised.

I was a casual fan of theirs before the concert, but since I have seen them live, my appreciation for their music has skyrocketed. I can’t wait for them to put on another show close to me, I will definitely be going.

I will start of by saying, that Florida Georgia Line have outgrown the role as an "opening act". It's time for them to become headliners. People in the music industry often talk about "paying your dues", well in my opinion, these 2 men have. This was my 3rd time seeing them live, and to watch the grow and own the show is nothing short of amazing. The electricity they bring to the stage is off the hook, the wild dancing, jumping insane heights, I'm sure it's safe to say everybody in the audience felt every jolt. Their music's lyrics hits a special note that anybody can relate too. At one point during the show Tyler, admittedly said the crowd was so loud, he forgot the words to the song, it's amazing how few simple words made the place erupt in cheer again. Special moments of thanking the fans for making FGL who they are today was a nice closing touch to the show. I look forward to seeing them again and again... And again.

This was my first country music event and I have to say, FGL did not disappoint. They built up anticipation nicely and they had boundless energy on stage which, in my opinion, would be tough to do after so many venues/concerts and being on the road 9 months out of the year. They really involved the crowd with their lyrics and they ramped up their show just by the amount of energy they had. They also had great synergy on stage; they may sing, or they may play guitar, or hey - they might do both. If you love their songs but don't know them by heart, no worries. They've got you covered. They utilize a very impressive 'song video' that has all the lyrics showing up on the big screen in a very creative way. But don't make the same mistake I did: you'll want to be in the general audience/mosh pit when these guys come around. I had regular sit- down seats and I felt like I missed out on a bigger experience.

This band is the most feel good, fun loving, happy, down home, just loving life group we have ever been to. Everyone needs to experience the joy they bring to our world!!! You can't leave them feeling sad or down because they pick you up and make everything cool. The southern rock, rap, country feel good mix is perfect for any night!! They also make you feel like a friend. When you love what you do and send it out to everyone around its a gift. We go to concerts to play and revive after a tough world of work and stress. Florida Georgia Line should be on the top of the list for that. LOVE THEM❤❤❤

Well I love FGL. The disappointment was not hearing them sing. It was good just not what we expected. The advertisement for the show on Songkick listed them in the lineup. However, once we purchased tickets through Eventbrite, FGL was only listed as host. I felt a bit deceived. Show did NOT start at 6 and was over before 8. We did enjoy the other artists and FGL came out and sang with Morgan Wallen at the end of the show.

Florida Georgia Line are officially embarking on the next chapter of their career with their fourth album, Can’t Say I Ain’t Country , on Feb. 15. In celebration of the release, the FGL guys (Brian Kelley and Tyler Hubbard) will be hitting the road this summer to perform their new songs around the globe on the Can’t Say I Ain’t Country Tour.

Hubbard and Kelley will be hitting a total of 36 cities on their latest trek, which begins June 13 in Rogers, Arkansas, and is slated to wrap in Irvine, California, on Sept. 28. Though the guys spent most of 2018 off the road to focus on Can’t Say I Ain’t Country , they teased the energy-filled performances to come on tour at festivals and their “Live From Las Vegas” residency — promising there’s much more where that came from.

“We’re ready to party even bigger in 2019,” Kelley says in a statement announcing the tour. “Lots of pyro, energy, and good vibes, with a few surprises up our sleeves. And we’re so glad to be bringing our buddies along for the ride!”

Go-Karting With Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line, 2018's Unlikeliest Hitmaking Team

Joining FGL on the tour are fellow superstar country duo Dan + Shay and “Up Down” collaborator Morgan Wallen. Canaan Smith and HARDY will be joining on select dates. Hubbard adds, “We can’t wait to get back out and play all of these new songs for you! It’s going to be fire!”

The Florida Georgia Line guys had a massive 2018 thanks to their record-breaking hit “Meant to Be,” which held the top spot of the Hot Country Songs chart for 50 total weeks  and earned the duo their first Grammy nomination (the song, which features Bebe Rexha, is up for best country duo/group performance). The pair’s latest single from the album, the sultry “Talk You Out of It,” is now climbing Hot Country Songs, sitting at No. 29 on the Jan. 12-dated tally.

Along with the Can’t Say I Ain’t Country Tour, Florida Georgia Line also revealed the return of FGL Fest on Sept. 7. Once again taking place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, FGL Fest will feature performances from the pair, along Dan + Shay, Nelly and Mitchell Tenpenny, with others to be announced. Tickets will be available to fan club members (FGL Lifers) beginning at 10 a.m. ET on Jan. 14, Citi Cardholders on Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. ET, and general public ( Ticketmaster.com , LiveNation.com , and IMS.com ) on Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. ET.

Florida Georgia Line Performs Last Show After 12 Years as a Duo: 'Closing of an Incredible Chapter'

"The next chapter is very exciting, but we wanna celebrate this chapter with you guys," said Tyler Hubbard onstage at FGL's final show as a duo at the Minnesota State Fair

After 12 years together, Tyler Hubbard and Brian Kelley 's time as Florida Georgia Line has come to a close.

On Wednesday, the Diamond-selling country duo performed their final show as FGL at the Minnesota State Fair and took a moment to thank their fans for supporting the "Cruise" performers over the years.

"This is our last official concert as Florida Georgia Line ," said Hubbard, 35, onstage, per CountryNow . "Let's see what we got left in the tank."

During FGL's performance of the six-times Platinum-certified "H.O.L.Y.," Hubbard shared a heartfelt moment with the crowd. "I just want to take a second because I don't want this moment to get lost tonight," he told the crowd. "I want to express our gratitude, from BK and myself, from the bottom of our heart, man, for the last 12 years of our life that you guys have allowed us to do what we love"

The musician reportedly continued, "You've enabled us to chase this crazy dream of writing songs and playing shows and hoping somebody will show up to listen, so thank you guys. Man, it really, really means the world to us."

He then spoke about the group's end and what's to come from the singer-songwriters, who met through a campus worship group while attending Belmont University in 2008 and founded FGL in 2010.

"I spent a lot of this afternoon thinking about the last 10 years and what this night means to us is the closing of an incredible, incredible chapter for us," said Hubbard, referring to the 2012 release of FGL's debut album Here's to the Good Times .

"It's very exciting for us to look at what's ahead and see what's next, and the next chapter is very exciting, but we wanna celebrate this chapter with you guys," he added before launching into the end of "H.O.L.Y." and asking fans, "So tonight, before we move onto the next song, can we sing this chorus one more time together?"

As the show came to a close following performances of hits including "Get Your Shine On," Bebe Rexha collaboration "Meant to Be" and the encore opener "Lil Bit," Hubbard addressed the crowd once again to show appreciation for Kelley, 37, while performing "Cruise."

"What a special night, thank you guys for celebrating with us. BK, I love you, man," said Hubbard. "Thanks again. It's been a special night for us. We love y'all."

When the concert concluded, Hubbard and Kelley exited opposite sides of the stage.

Going forward, both members will pursue solo careers. Kelley released his Wave Pack EP in April 2021, followed by debut album Sunshine State of Mind that June, while Hubbard dropped his Dancin' In the Country EP earlier this year, with his first full-length due Jan. 27. Both musicians have solo tour dates booked for this year.

Despite rumored turbulence between the pair over the past few years, both halves of Florida Georgia Line refused to call the split a breakup in the traditional sense while speaking to PEOPLE in February.

"I think 'taking a break' is the proper term, as opposed to breaking up," said Hubbard at the time.

"We're not going our separate ways," Kelley said, adding more details. "We're taking a break from recording our music. We're being artists. We love creating. And so a couple years back, we started writing without each other and trying different writers, and now we're both doing that with our music."

Don’t Judge Tyler Hubbard by His Florida Georgia Line Days

By Joseph Hudak

Joseph Hudak

Ten years ago this week, Tyler Hubbard barreled into a Brazilian steakhouse inside the Hard Rock Hotel in Cancun, Mexico, dropped himself into a chair at a dinner table, and did his best to appear sober.

It didn’t work.

I was there to do an interview for Country Weekly magazine (RIP) with Hubbard and his Florida Georgia Line bandmate Brian Kelley , but a long day’s video shoot for what Hubbard says was FGL’s most expensive video ever, “Get Your Shine On,” and too many post-shoot drinks left the singer, then only 25, far from interview-ready. His handlers shooed him out of the room, forced him to eat something, and commanded he go for a walk around the property. Florida Georgia Line had a beachside show to play in a few hours for hotel VIPs and Hubbard had to deliver. Somehow, he did.

That Hubbard is far different from the one sitting across from me on this January morning in Nashville. Dressed in a blaze-orange Filson hat and a camo pullover, Hubbard is now 35, clear-eyed, and speaks with a measured thoughtfulness. He’s also a solo artist who dropped his self-titled debut album this week, putting a capstone on his time with Florida Georgia Line and introducing himself to country music fans under his own name.

Editor’s picks

The 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history, every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term.

“I’d be naïve to say it had nothing to do with differences of opinion and difference of geographic location and nothing to do with social media, but the decision would have been the same, regardless,” Hubbard says. “BK came to me and said this is what I’m doing. He initiated the solo thing and asked for my support. I told BK I want you to do what you need to do to make you happy, and I’ll figure out what I’m doing after that…. But I wasn’t willing to continue making FGL records and go sign another FGL deal if we were going to do solo stuff. I didn’t have the capacity for both.”

With Kelley committed to a solo career , the die had been cast: Florida Georgia Line would be dissolving, amicably. Hubbard thought he’d focus on songwriting and maybe “hop on a song” as a featured artist, like he did with “Undivided,” the ode to unity he wrote for Tim McGraw and performed during President Biden’s inauguration TV special. But the decision to keep the impending breakup of FGL a secret rubbed him wrong and helped feed the gossipy drama that consumed the duo’s final act.

Is Brian Kelley's New Song a 'Middle Finger' to Former Florida Georgia Line Bandmate Tyler Hubbard?

Bebe rexha welcomes tyler hubbard for surprise 'meant to be' duet at life is beautiful, tyler hubbard goes ‘dancin in the country’ on 'the tonight show’.

Eventually, Hubbard says he felt the same call of a solo career as his former bandmate and set about reinventing himself. A little over a month after Florida Georgia Line’s last concert, he was onstage at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena opening Keith Urban’s The Speed of Now Tour. It was a far cry from the headlining shows that Hubbard played with Kelley: There were no catwalks, no pyro, no trampolines, no onstage Fireball shots. Instead, Hubbard and his band squeezed in around Urban’s draped-off gear, trying to make a connection with an audience who maybe kinda sorta recognized the guy onstage, even if they didn’t yet know solo cuts like “I’m the Only One” or “Everybody Needs a Bar.” Watching Hubbard work to win over the crowd was to witness an exercise in humility — something not often used to describe FGL at the height of their fame.

“When I came out onstage, it was humbling,” Hubbard says. “There were people at the Keith shows who were connecting the dots during the show. I’d watch it firsthand. The first three or four songs, I was seeing some people going, ‘Where do I know this guy from?’ It was a reminder that it may be a year or even longer until all the lights have turned on for everyone.”

But then he’d play “Cruise” and an arena-wide revelation occurred, followed quickly by his first solo Number One, “5 Foot 9,” a song Hubbard wrote about his wife of nearly eight years, Hayley, with Chase McGill and Jaren Johnston.

“I had zero responsibilities and not much to lose,” Hubbard admits. “But I’ve done personal work, emotional work, mental work, spiritual work.”

When Johnston’s father passed last year, Hubbard — who, at just 20, watched his own father die in a helicopter crash in their backyard — was there to console him and keep him afloat.

“Tyler would leave me messages, saying he loved me and was thinking about me, and that shit goes a long way,” Johnston says. “Because most people, when they know a friend or acquaintance in the music business who is grieving, run away from that. That’s the last thing people want to get involved with.”

Sixteen years later, the loss of Hubbard’s father remains fresh, but he chooses to use the lingering grief as inspiration. “In a way, I am thankful for the perspective I’ve been given,” he says. He pays tribute to his dad in the new song “Miss My Daddy,” a shockingly vulnerable portrait of a man who, halfway into his thirties, still vividly mourns his father’s absence. ( Hearing him sing , “I just miss my daddy, I just miss my dad,” will wreck you.) It’s the type of hyper-personal song that Hubbard might not have written while in Florida Georgia Line.

“They were writing ‘Cruise’ and ‘Round Here’ and all these hits, but there wasn’t as much heart as in what he’s writing these days,” Johnston, a frequent co-writer, says. “He’s thinking about it more and he cares more.”
