Want to be able to remove tour pack and replace with Backrest
- Add to quote
Okay guys, What do I need, parts wise to make this happen. I want to be able to remove the tour pack and put in its place a backrest for the better half on short runs and be able to put it back on for the long rides. Gotta have storage for the extra stuff booze and ammo, on the long runs Bike is an 2009 Electra Glide Any advise or suggestions??? Let the games begin B
You need the removable tour-Pack kit, (which is a different baseplate, and the 4-point quick release brackets that go on the bike. Rack #53276-09B, 4-Point Docking Hardware Kit #54205-09A are the Harley part numbers you need.
^^^What he said. I put one on a 2003 Electra Glide and another on my 2015 Ultra...easy peasy install. The Harley instructions aren't too bad, but some youtube videos help too. It's pretty simple and you will like it for sure!
What about the electrical stuff, Jimmers?
The kit comes with a 'Y' adapter that you plug if you need brake lights. On my 2015 Ultra it came with brake lights/turn signals that fit on the saddle bags...good lookin' too. Everything you need is in the kit. Here's a couple pics of my gal!!

No drilling!! They have some good sticky tape on the lights. Make sure you clean the bags with alcohol to get off old wax and dirt then stick em on. Also, I used a pencil to get the lights lined up correctly. I put it between the light and the rim of the saddlebag lid for equal spacing on both bags. CAUTION: That sticky stuff is really good, so make sure you get it on right the first time!!
Question 3: when tour pak is back on, do the saddle lights and tour pak lights all work. I assume that’s what the y connector is for. :grin
I did this conversion last fall to my 2013 FLHTK (Electra Glide Limited), 4 point docking kit, quick release mounting bracket for the tour trunk, tall backrest and luggage rack. For the 4 point docking kit I went with the factory Harley part for best fit from Boardtracker Harley in Janesville Wisconsin, best price. for all of the other parts I went to https://www.ebay.com/usr/modelllo I believe he is from Michigan his backrest and luggage rack are great. just click the link and go to his online store if you order all of the stuff at the same time he will cut you a deal just make him a reasonable offer. I will get pics for you when I get home from work if you want. otherwise you will see my bike in April when I come back to Texas. I also have extra quick release electrical fittings so you can easily plug and unplug the rear tourpak lights.
I also put in a new laydown tail light and angled plate bracket.
Yep...I did the same!

You may as well budget for a solo seat since you will eventually want one. And there are also quick detach kits for lowers available. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Then he might as well just get a Road King as a 2nd bike.
How’s $40 sound? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sounds great to me, you have all the bolts and stuff? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Sent you one too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I really like the smoked out lights in back. Were you able to keep the bulbs just as bright? I like the look but I want to be as bright or brighter than stock at all times!! Keep the crazies off my ass
Okay one last question... The license plate holder you guys used, do you have a part number. I have to order that today too :devil

If you go with the road king style that goes under the taillight, I will send you a stock RK tail light so the plate is lighted. Has the clear lense on the bottom of the taillight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I bought the Kuryakyn #3148 in black you can find it from $71.99 on E bay to $80.99 at Dennis Kirk, but I had to drill 3 holes in my fender to mount it, I just primed the inside of the hole using a Q-Tip then painted the inside of the hole the same way with paint to keep everything from rusting. https://www.ebay.com/itm/KURYAKYN-3...ash=item1c9a90b785:g:DcsAAOSwc6JaZ5wY&vxp=mtr https://www.denniskirk.com/kuryakyn...-mount-with-frame-3148.p497935.prd/497935.sku Amazon.com: Kuryakyn 3148 Black Laydown Curved License Plate Frame: Automotive

I expect shit like that from you hahaha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
But it looks sweet once it's done, and you can still see the plate with the tour pack on, I do not think it will ever be taken off and it looks stock. Now you just have to get the lay down smoked tail light to complete the look.
The light is LED and damn bright and it takes 1 minute to install just 2 screws to remove the old stock lens cover then just unplug stock light, plug in new light and screw in new smoked layed back lens cover.
Part number # Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I had a custom dynamics on my bike for a couple of years then I switched to Harley-Davidson Laydown LED Tail Light (136 LED Lights) you can get it with or without strobe function, mine is with out strobe, but make sure to order with the license plate light.
it's not cheap but it looks and works great.

Tour Pack Quick detach kit 2011 RG Ultra
- Add to quote
Looking to purchase the quick detach kit for my tour pack on my 2011 RG Ultra. Is it best to just buy directly from Harley? Does the kit come with everything needed to install?looking for any suggestions. Thanks in advance.
I'd be interested in what everyone has found also. The good, the bad?
i tried to do this with my flhtk. turns out you have to buy dock points the detach kit and the wiring kite all separately. from what i could gather, the wiring kit didn't reach far enough. i got tired of looking at the numbers and just unplugged everything and coiled the wires under the seat. if you take off the bags, remove the trim cover, there's only 4 bolts holding the pack on. I had it off for about 3 months and put it back on in about 20 minutes. I've since decided that i really like the TP and don't want to be without one. ymmv

FLHTK 2010 - yet another tour pack removal question
- Add to quote
I bought a 2010 Ultra Limited yesterday and rode it 400 miles home. Amazing bike so far, but since I ride locally quite a bit I'd like to convert the tour pack to quick detach. I see that Harley has a quick detach kit that I can get for about $500. I am also seeing similar kits from HogWorkz, Cobra, and a few random brands that I haven't heard of before. Realistically, can I get something HogWorkz 4 point kit and their 2 up mount and will it work as well as the HD one? Also, do I need anything else to make this conversion aside from wire connectors?
My buddy has the Fat Baggers quick detach kit on his 2009 Street Glide and it was way more hidden when the tour pack was removed than the Harley one. You can look at that one also. I believe your going to loose your radio antenna so you should get an electronic one from Dakota Digital or there are others that go under the fairing.
I just put a Hog Workz on my 04. Installation was pretty straightforward. I had to run a rat tail file thru a couple of the bolt holes to line them up. Other than that it was plug and play. 0 miles on that bike since I installed it, but it feels and looks good. Edit - that bike took a pretty hard hit from behind a few years ago. That misalignment on the brackets may be from that.
